Cambridge An Shawn is a weirding Way media podcast. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old fashioned family Christmas. No, No, we're all in this together. This is a full blown four alarm holiday emergency. Here.
We're gonna press on and we're gonna have the half half happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby Tap Dance with Danny fucking k And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that Chimney Knight, He's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse. You're a goofy. Don't piss me off hard. Hello and welcome to Cambridge And with Sean, a podcast by two weird guys about the weird things that they like. I am Ronnie, otherwise known as Skelevator, and I'm here with my pal Mark Bigley, the host of Wake Up Heavy.
I forgot to do that last episode. I know what were we thinking? Sometimes you just dive into it. Yeah, well we were excited. We have to say a lot to say.
This episode is particularly special. We wanted to give our huge, immeasurable crowd of listeners a very special Christmas episode where we look back on every episode and talk about what we acquired since and inspired by our discussions. Yes, I know we've mentioned it before in the past, but Mark and I are really really good friends and we chat with each other via text message constantly about this stuff, which often sort of fuels our eBay searches. And this is very true and definitely informs our discussions for when we do sit down and record these things, and sometimes we nudge each other along on our pursuits and it can be really exciting and also expensive. Expensive.
Yeah, that's the word I was looking for. There's only one episode that ended up being pretty expensive from me, but I think I know which one, but we'll get to that. We'll get to that. I got a couple items from that one too. Yeah, I mean it was given that period of time was really exciting, at least from my perspective in doing my searches, and you've got some good deals and that's true.
And actually, throughout our discussion today, at least from my end, some of these things that I found out there were really reasonable and I was surprised. And this goes back to the whole discussion about the quote unquote Zeitgeist and how sometimes the stars align and things start showing up, as you know, just from throwing it out there into the ether, and then somehow eBay Is decides to help out. eBay Is kind I haven't had that many of those experiences, but I mean a couple. Well, I missed out on one that I'll get to at the end. Oh, I got it. So do you have any amendments or fixes from our previous episode?
No, I don't think so. M let me think, because I just edited it. We're recording close together here, which is unusual. We had a little bit of a delay in November recording, and so we're doing back to back weekends here, which we've never done before, and also doing this back to back so that we could launch this particular episode right around Christmas. Yes, yes, let me think.
Oh gosh, I probably did think of something while I was editing, but oh, I know what I wanted to say. I mentioned my favorite quote unquote Star Wars characters, and I left out sand people because that was a favorite figure. And I actually, I'll get to this at the end, but I took a picture with the one I have my childhood one the other day and realized, oh, this guy's kind of beat up and his cape, which is obviously original, is splitting down the sides where I would constantly take it, Yeah, yeah, exactly take it off and on, and thought, oh yeah, okay man, And I hate it when I leave insignificant stuff like that now, because it's true. He was one of my favorites, along with the Jahua's and Gredo and Yoda, like I mentioned.
So that was the only thing really that caught my attention was why didn't you say sand people? And I always say sand people because that's what was on the card exactly, And you know, the piggybacking off our discussion in the previous episode. I mean, one of the greatest charms of that original Star Wars movie was the sort of lived in quality of the universe, including these sort of biomechanical creatures that looked like they were living out in the wilderness of oh what was that planet? Tattooing? Can you forget Luke's planet?
I know, how could I do that? The sand people and the Jawas were particularly interesting to me too, because of that they look like the biomechanical elements of them, with the glowing eyes, the masks of the Tuscan raiders of the Sand People. It was perplexing to me, like, what the heck is going on with this? And we talked about book A Boba Fett and all that stuff in there, and that was my favorite part. Oh yeah, that show in particular was his training, I guess with the Sand People.
Yeah, for sure, I could have done with a lot more of that in that show. Totally forgot that that was part of that because they sort of fade out of my mind after we finish the series, I know, right, Yeah, that's actually a good transition to our very first episode. I keep forgetting to write this down as a note. I just wanted to clarify something about the show and how it's presented on podcast platforms. You may see a little E for explicit notice on the show.
I started doing that on Wake Up Heavy way back when, just because of when I was getting started and reading about hints and tips and stuff. And there's no real rating system for podcasts. It's one or the other. It's listed as clean, lyrics or explicit. I'm a little paranoid about getting dinged, having a complaint and having the show dropped or something.
If a young kid is listening to the show and there's F words and stuff like that. There is no sexually explicit material on this show until Ronnie starts talking about his porn sessions. Just kidding, what are you joy? You promise never to do this kind of thing again. I'll promise you that it's not you.
I've never seen you before in my life. Oh sorry, those are art films. If somebody, usually me drops an F bomb in an episode, I will mark it as explicit. And it's just my paranoia. If some twelve year old kid is listening to this and their mom, here is it, and go what are you listening to?
And they you can file a complaint don Apple podcasts about stuff like that. So there have been a couple of explicit clips, the Steve Martin clip and some other things that I've thrown in there. Yeah, that's generally all it usually means is there is some swears in the show. I promise someone's saying more pants. We're just playing it safe.
As soon as Mark drops an F bomb, I just feel like I gotta drop one too. Going to Usually in most episodes it's one of the best words the English language, so come on. That's the reason why it's marked as explicit, and I bleeped them out, I think in the first couple of episodes, and then I said, ask for it. We're grown ups. We are talking about toys a lot, so that might bring a younger crowd, but the warning is there.
So yeah, that's that. I'm glad you mentioned that. That's good that you're saying that, because we don't want people to get the wrong impression. Yeah, we're not talking about sexy stuff here. Yeah, you know what, it might be sexy to us, but maybe not to others.
That's true. Grado is pretty sexy. Yeah, he really is. The way that mouth moves my business. Us starting off talking about Star Wars makes a lot of sense, and actually in part of one of the main subjects of our very first episode was Star Wars.
We also ventured into space in another way by bringing up Alien We talked about a bunch of other things too. During that first episode. That was back when we would bring up what like three subjects each plus location, and I don't know if we did a location on the first one, but we definitely had three. Yeah. Yeah, like I mentioned on the last episode, didn't spend a lot of time on any one of those.
That time. You brought up Star Wars. That time, the movie Monsters book Violin ormsby which we both already had. I did Harry Odiny, The Elephant Man, and that Alien Picture book. Yes, I mean I didn't go rebuy those books or watch movies about them.
I may have watched Alien since then, that's a very distinct possibility, but other than that, I didn't. Those aren't really item things. Those are more ideas and people and stuff like that. Yeah. Well, for me, right around that time, it was about when I was starting to search again for R two D two vintage R two D two figures.
So like every once in a while, I would go on eBay and look that stuff up. I would look up R two D two figures, and I'm pretty picky about that particular figure. I didn't want it to be too I didn't want the sticker to be too worn out or the backmetal chrome dome to be too worn out. I wanted to get one that looked fairly reasonable condition. So what's right around that time or a little bit after maybe that, I did actually find myself.
I happened upon an R two D two action figure in pretty good shape. It was definitely within a couple of months of us having recorded that episode. It put the put the itch in me again to start looking. And also it did inspire me there's yours. Yeah, mine's some pretty good shape too.
I mean yours has some wear and tear, but I love that. That's because that was your figure. Yeah, the sticker is almost completely gone on the front and back because like I mentioned, that's where I grab it, yeah, exactly, And that's how you play with that figure, and you hold its body and that's you know, our fingers have oils and stuff, and trying to grab it by the legs these days. But it's hard, that's smart. Yeah, it is hard to do that.
And also right around that time, I every once in a while get the itch to look up PVC figures of Oscar the Grouch, and I was able to find myself one that I'd had my eye on for a while because we talked a little bit about Muppets Story episode as well, right, and so that you know, got me thinking about Oscar the Grouch a little bit. I've always loved Oscar, and every time I talk about the Muppets or bring up the Muppets, think about that particular character. And it did inspire me to get the movie Monster's Book out of storage because after having bought it secondhand through eBay, I've been paranoid about it getting damage. It's kind of a flimsy book anyway. It looks like if you were to put it on a shelf and take it off a shelf repeatedly, something could happen to it.
It's a little bit soft. It did inspire me to get that out of storage. Now I have that close by so I can enjoy it more often. Mine's sitting right to my left here on the floor. Yeah.
I'm glad I have it out of storage because I'm realizing how necessary it is for me to go back and look at it every couple of months. It provides such a good feeling, charming, charming illustrations. Yeah, so you didn't end up buying yourself Harry Houdini How to Escape the And I didn't buy the book that I mentioned by Adam Bagley either. Yeah. I got nothing from that episode.
You had a lot going into it. Yeah. In Your Heart episode two Bob Geldoff's Hair, you talked about the Grimlins and Batman eighty nine mm hm, and I talked about Pink Floyd, the Wall, the movie book and the Three Investigators. Did you pick up anything related to that stuff? No?
I did not. I did look at Three Investigators stuff for a while, mostly just I wanted to look at the covers to see which ones rang a bell that didn't direct me to eBay to try to get any of them. Every time I go through, if I'm looking at the show itself on Spreaker and the back end of Spreaker, I think, oh, I need to look for those, and then I kind of forget about it and move on. So at some point I might think to be kind of fun to reread, Yeah, do it. I actually did get a couple of things, spread out over several months after that episode.
The first thing I did pick up pretty close to around that time was the Batman Man eighty nine comic book. Actually I ran across in Target and it was on sale, not clearance, but like thirty percent off like they often have over there at Target. And it's a comic that is like supposedly based on the script for perhaps what would have been the third Tim Burton Batman movie, which includes Billy d Williams as two Face, and which you know would have been really really cool to see and so yeah, I got that, and I read through that pretty fast and it's pretty cool. Then later on, actually recently, about a month ago, I found that the McFarlane Superpowers figureline was re releasing a Batman in the nineteen eighty nine colors.
So he's got the yellowish gold Batman emblem and the yellowish gold utility belt and then the black suit. And this is great because maybe we'll get to it eventually. But I loved the eighties figures based on DC characters, and this one really emulates that sculpt It's not the same sculpt as the Kenner figures that came out in eighty nine based on that movie, but it emulates the earlier eighties figures, but gives it the Batman eighty nine coloration, which is cool. I'm happy, stoked, in fact, to have that particular version of the Batman. Stoked radical.
I know. I'm running across Gremlin stuff all the time now. I mean, every time I go to Target, there's that Neca figures are really gorgeous, and I resist them nearly every time. I did pick up the gizmo based on the Gremlins two movie, but that was I think before we talked about Gremlins, and that's the most recent one that I've picked up. They're hard to resist.
The one that I see most frequently now is the brain Krimlin, the smart Kremlin from Gremlins two, and he's got a suit and glasses cigar. I mean, he's adorable. I think it's a cigar. Maybe I'm mixing them up with the other one. I'm resisting him, but he's pretty darn cool.
I got to say, one of these days, there's that really big I think he's like just over twelve inches tall. LJN stripe from the eighties that I just absolutely love. He's never at a reasonable price online. He's always in the hundreds. I keep looking at that every once in a while.
One of these days he'll come home, but not yet. Next episode. Next episode is Trap Job versus Mister Bill. I talked a lot about Masters of the Universe and you talked about SNL and Mister Bill. Did you happen to get anythings based or inspired by that episode?
Well, I got the stuff prior to the episode. The two books, the Rolling Stone Visits Saturday Night Live book that I tracked down on the Little Mister Bill book was easy to track down but I finally got them, and then I did get a mister Bill Bindy, which is a modern figure. They've been doing them for quite a few years. And that was it. I was still watching the episodes.
I think I got stuck on I want to say I'm still on season two. Maybe I got into season three, and then just my schedule and stuff with work got a little more hectic and it stopped, and I haven't picked it back up. I do intend to, like I mentioned on that episode, get through those first seasons with the original cast, at least, if nothing else where, are those streaming now because they used to Peacock, They're on Peacock. Okay, God, we got to get Peacock. Jamie ignorant slut for Masters.
Oh yeah, it's always something that. Are you going to spend twenty minutes here talking about all the Masters of the Universe stuff you've gotten. I'm gonna go do some errands. I go, right, there are quite a few things that gotten this past year. That's about when I picked up a reasonably priced castle Gray Skull, the one that's right behind me here, and a battle ram as well, which was sort of two Grail pieces for me.
But yeah, there's Master's stuff popping up everywhere right now, and it's hard to keep up with. So I could go down the list of the last thirty things that I snagged, but I'm not going to do that to you all. Oh thank god. And anybody who is interested can go to your YouTube page, that's true, yeah, Exkelevator, and you can see all about Masters of the Universe. That's right.
It's unending over there, folks. So if you like that, oh, you know what, it's a good time for me to mention I just got a commission for a new Snake Mountain. So if you all watch my channel and you enjoy those build videos that I have up over there, there's going to be a whole new batch of them coming out over the next six months, So keep an eye out for that. Yeah, definitely watch those if nothing else on a Rodney's channel because they're very cool. Watch the other stuff too, but if nothing else, watch the builds.
Yeah, those are fun. Come in your Rial Bulb episode for the line Jarber, this was sort of epic. Yeah, say, I mentioned the Tomland Cyclops and Stretch Armstrong and I can tell you right now, I didn't get anything involving either of those two figures. I would still like to find tomland vest for him, but they don't come up. I never see them by them so on eBay and I have two per three Stretch Armstrongs already, so it is tempting to stockpile them though.
You bringing up the Stretch Armstrong your experience with the Stretch Armstrong figures got me really thinking about that monster. What was the monster's name again, stretch Monster, Stretch Monster. So we back and forth a little bit on that because you'd mentioned that there was a newer one out there, and I was really contemplating it. But it's just the design elements just are not the same. I don't know why they changed the head sculpt it's ridiculously it doesn't make any sense.
So that died off pretty fast. And it's eight inch, it's not the full size. I don't know why they didn't. They honestly could have made a good deal of money. I think if they had released the original version of that.
I agree, a reproduction of the original version. I agree. It's a beautiful figure, which I didn't appreciate when I had it. I know, isn't that sad? And that happened and you talked about Robert Altman's Popeye and McDonald Land.
I'll start off with Popeye because that's quick. I'm wearing the T shirt right now. Right around the time that we recorded, Target got Popeye t shirts, which was like super crazy to me that that aligned so well. I've since seen it on clearance for six dollars. I almost bought a second one just because I love it so much.
But yeah, love my Popeye T shirt. I still have not purchased. There's one version of Popeye that was released on Blu ray. It's a little more difficult to find. It has the behind the scenes short and I've been thinking about trying to find that.
I just have the basic release one. But yeah, you and I got deep on McDonald land stuff. During this period of time. I was bedridden because of my foot injury, and then quickly thereafter I got COVID, so I was stuck here and we were just looking at McDonald and stuff, remco mcdonaldlan figures, shooting different listings back and forth. I grabbed a bunch of things, rattle them off, bro.
I purchased a couple of bulk items just to get good prices, and I got a couple of Ronald McDonald's in doing that, and you got one of those Ronald McDonald's. I got one of those Ronald McDonald's, and I got a couple of Officer Big Max and was able to find you a whistle because you were missing a whistle yep, and I need to replace the string on it. But other than that, Yeah, the whistle's in good shape. I want to say I have and I don't know why, probably for a mego thing. I almost positive I have some stretchy string like this somewhere.
I think I got it to repair I don't know what. But when you gave that to me, I'm like, oh, I have some of this. And then I'm like, why would I have of this? And I had to think about it for a while. I know I do somewhere in any way I would use regular string.
If not, I just haven't done it yet. You know. It's that basic gold stretchy string that comes with I mean I feel like it came with a lot of toys back then, and also some Christmas ornaments. Yeah, yes, it is the kind of string that Christmas ornaments use exactly, And maybe that's what I'm thinking of. Yeah, I think that's what it is.
And I have the whistle too, and my string's in pretty bad shape too. These things don't last very long. I got two officer Big Mac, and I discovered there were two different head sculpts for him. H Not only did this search become intense for you and I, but then also a couple of people in the toy Frenzy community got excited about it too, and Bobby, who's a co host over there on the Toy Frenzy Show, he was looking for them too, and he grabbed a couple of Ramco figures and I sent him the other officer, Big Mac O nice, and I got a professor. I almost sold the Professor again, posted it on eBay and got rid of him.
But I think I'm happy I kept him because he's super crazy and he comes with his tools. Mayor mccheese, I got him. I got the Hamburglar, and it took me forever to find a hat grim that was in good shape. I had to get the hat grim separately, which was a journey to say the least. But one of the first things that I feel like I got lucky on he came with one of the ronalds.
I don't remember if it's yours or mine was Grimace. Grimace has always been my number one out of all the characters from McDonald ln and so getting a vintage Grimace was really great. I was genuinely thinking I would try and get one of the newer versions the replicas of Grimace. Repurchased the forearmed Grimace that I had at one time. Damn it.
I'm really happy that I got a vintage Grimace. Totally satisfies that itch for me. After I heeled up and was able to go back out into the world, I discovered this little shop kind of near your where you live. They specialized in Funko pops and I was able to get a Hamburgler, an Officer Big Mac and a Mayor mccheese Funko pops over there for really affordable prices. Funko pops are what they are, but for certain characters, they satisfy that itch.
Happy to have those two. In buying my bulk items, I got two of these McDonald's rooftops that came with the play set. You got one of them, Yeah, So I got a couple of things from you, and then I got my own Officer Big Mac. During that time that was in good shape, and that was one of the better deals. I feel that I got on stuff that I purchased, and I got us the Yes cactus plant flea Market.
I think I got that right this time. Yeah, Grimace and Hamburglar? Which one did I give you the Hamburglar? Okay, So I kept the Grimace because you had gotten me the Hamburglar before, which was one of your favorites. So yeah, I felt guilty and got those were a good price as well.
I think this kind of fits into two categories are at Icon episode in this one, but I ended up getting all of the meal squad of fungo pops, I believe. Yeah, I think I got the set of three, the drink, the fries, and the little Hamburger. Also the Mister Speedy, which I know you picked up as well. I've since picked up mister Speedy. I actually found him at a five below for five bucks, which is interesting because that was a funk Go exclusive right.
The other ones you could get other places, but that one was one of their exclusives. I was shocked and just beside myself a joy. I texted you as soon as I ran across that one. More recently, I ran across the fries and they were clearance at Target. I still need to get the burger and the drink.
The drink design is really cool. Yeah, they're very close to those little puppets. Fit that style better than some of the other stuff that Funko does, you know, with the dead black dolls eyes, the jaws eyes, black eyes like a doll. They work pretty well. Though.
I'm a fan of muppets, and yesterday we were out and about, I ran across the Christmas Carol Gonzo, Funko Pops and Noble. It just doesn't work for that character. I think Cleo's interested in those, though, the Christmas Carol ones. I'll let you know if I run across anymore any other McDonald's an stuff. I'm trying to think.
Oh no. At a trip to an antique store, I did get a hamburger, transformers from a Happy Meal from what was that eighty oh yeah or something like that. Yeah, cool changeables, the changeables. Yeah, I was excited to find that. When it comes to McDonald land figures based on those characters that were basically ripoffs of side Marti Croft characters, I just think there's something very very special about them.
You know, every time I see something with their likenesses on them, it's very tempting to grab. You got me the little officer Big Mac as well. Yeah, the little PVC figure. I just looked over and saw him. It's always good.
We've got multiple Grimace glasses. I've got two grimaces, three grimaces now and yeah, no four because I'm not counting the cactus plant flea market. Yeah, four grimaces. That will always be something I look for at antique stores. Anything else with that episode, because that's I didn't get as much as you and that's how all right?
So then moving on to the next episode. This is episode five, Meet the munch Bunch. You talked about Qutie Fruity's and Dick Smith's makeup kit, and I brought up Freddy Krueger and Disneyland. Speaking for myself, I didn't grab anything particularly associated with Freddy Krueger or Disneyland, though Disneyland. I'm always sort of looking for stuff associated with Disneyland.
Did you guys go since then? No, we haven't got we are currently. We've got a trip plan that is on the back burner just because it's expensive, you know, I mean really expensive. One of the main reasons we have never taken Cleo. Yeah, it is so expensive, but it is something that we all love to do together.
Well, I didn't get anything in regard to Dick Smith's makeup kit other than that picture of me with it on that we used CUTI fruities. Yes, before we recorded, I had gotten the little apple, one of my favorites from childhood. And then shortly thereafter I did a search on eBay and found a little set of seven that included the grape, which I always think was a BlackBerry or poison berry, but found out because of those walking figures that it was mister Grape. I got the set because of that, and I think the set actually cost me the same amount as the single red apple did a bit before, so that was a good deal. And it came with an extra apple which I gifted to you, yep, which I have right over here.
So it had a great pineapple, banana, carrot, what I believe is a cucumber, possibly a zucchini, and a lemon, and that grape. Man, I don't know. It hits hard in my head, It hits memory receptors really hard. And I love it. You handed me that apple.
I feel like a multitude of vague memories back just holding it. Yeah, I'm pretty confident those were around, and my mom was a school teacher and they were around and at the elementary school that I went to, and I may have had the apple. It just really struck a chord for me, just holding that thing. They were pretty ubiquitous in schools back then. And I found not too long after, I think it might have been before the episode even aired.
Using those search terms on Instagram, found somebody in an old post from somebody in England who had bought a box of them at a what do they call they don't call them the yard sales over there? Boot sale. Yeah. It was a full, unopened box of cutie fruities and that was the term that was used, much like those walking figures, and the art on the box was great. I think I just sent it to you.
I don't think I borrowed it for the show. Maybe I did, Maybe it was on one of the little videos that I make for Instagram. I believe he had a few pictures in that post, and one was of the box open, and it was just all these same figures and the grape and the apple were prominent and I definitely remember having the banana as well. He's so weird looking. I still look every once in a while.
I would be fine with multiples of the grape or I think I'm trying to complete the set of the walking figures and I'm closed because the pineapple was one, the lemon was one, the banana was one. Maybe I do have them. There might be one that I'm missing that I need to get that relates to those walking figures that I think preceded these. Yeah, Mark still needs the pair, but those are always something that I'll take a glance at from time to time, like it just comes popped back into my head. Oh, let's see what's available.
And they're adorable. They are. You're speaking about things that we always take a glance at, and that's one of them for you. The other thing, I want to backtrack just a little bit to Popeye because there's something that we didn't mention is that you and I were texting images back and forth with some of the new Popeye figures that had been released. I know for you, you were really tempted to get a Wimpy because he comes with several Hamburgers.
Did you end up getting that guy? No, I don't think I looked much at those after that, I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. Maybe inspired by McDonald land and some other stuff. We hit a big topic on episode six, Big Boy versus Bibvindum and talked about I'm not going to mention every ad icon we talked about, even though I took the time to type them down on this cheat sheet. Yeah, Bob, well it's lap Why not Bob's Big Boy popin Fresh Sprout, Freaky's hostess for me?
You talked about the Michelin Man, the kool Aid Man, mister Peanut Manamu and Jack talked about monster serial guys. Yeah, and I'm sure a number of other things. Boy, this was kind of a big one too. Yeah for me, I mean, I'm looking at my list here, So I got that little Bob's Big Boy funko On't I even sure what that series is called pop 'ems or pop ups or something. Yeah, just because he was cute and had that little thought bubble thing that popped up the meal squad stuff that I mentioned earlier in Mister Speedy.
You found a Bob's Big Boy coin bank at a local and I think I had seen it recently too, on a trip out to Clovis. Yeah, that I didn't have, and picked that one up for me. So I got that it was reasonably priced. I couldn't resist. Yeah, most of those are decent.
They're usually less than twenty dollars. Prior to the episode, but inspir by the episode, I had finally gotten ham Hoose to compete to complete my Freaky's collection, and of course I have picked up three Flintstones plastic rock balls I first mentioned on that show. You can go back and listen to all that and the separate Bonus Plastic rock Ball episode to hear all about that tale and the episode after the beginning of Mark's odyssey through the rock Ball universe. It kind of climaxed early to go in that direction as I was looking for that stuff. Though tons of other Flintstones premiums popped up, so and I looked at a lot of them, because I know I had one of the coin purses when I was a kid, and I remember having a hard plastic Fred Flintstone figure and I couldn't quite remember if it was the pencil holder that kept popping up or the little swimmer.
So I bought one of the Fred Flintstones swimmers bagged cheap and got it and it's not hard plastic, so but it does ring a bell for me. I need to get a new rubber band because even though it was bagged, the rubber bands that came with it immediately disintegrated. You put it together you want, and it didn't come with instructions. So I was spending all this time trying to figure out how the rubber band wrapped around the arms to make it work so that when you wind its arms and then put it in the tubber in the sink, it would swim. The arms would rotate and it would swim.
So I need to get a very thin rubber bands and tested out. So that was sort of inspired by all that Cereal ad icon stuff and premiums and things, So that was what I got into how about you. Not too long after our discussion, I went on a bit of a tangent about Staypuff. Marshamallow Man, which is of course is basically a cousin of the michelin Man and one of the listeners of Toy Frenzy. He found a re release of the eighties late eighties Real Ghostbusters Stay Puffed figure, and he sent that my way.
He got it really affordable, So I'm really excited to have a Staypuffed. Staypuff does sort of fulfill that michelin Man aesthetic for me on the shelf. More recently or right around the time, I guess the pre orders went up for the Jada Toys Booberry action figure. He got to me right after Halloween. He is gorgeous.
Before we ever recorded that episode, I did have already the Frankenberry Jada Toys Frankenberry and for me frank and Berry and Booberry when we rent two favorites. I still haven't purchased Count Chocula, though I'm very tempted to the Booberry action figure. His glows in the dark, the glow features really fantastic. He's really cute. Did you happen to order him?
No, he's not a favorite of mine. Those are cool figures, but I have to kind of stick with stuff that, oh yeah, for sure, really you know pulls me in. I can't just if I made more money, I would have a lot more crap. Well that's the thing, right, Like part of the reason why I haven't purchased Count Chocula is that franken Berry and Boo Berry do it for me as opposed to for others. Count Chocula does it for them.
So we have to work within our means. And if there's something that's associated that doesn't quite push that nostalgia button for us, then why would we spend our money on it in the first place. So I got a Booberry and a stay Huffed, sort of inspired by those discussions in that episode. And of course we have our little serial monster cause collectibles. I'll have to send you the YouTube link to this I watched kept popping up because of me watching hundreds of toy poloi videos.
So this restoration of an old oh gosh, what was the date on it? It was old? Micheline man standee? That was iron? Oh, pretty sure it was iron?
Iron? Bronze? Maybe, no, it wasn't bronze. It was because he had to sand blast it. Oh, when it got down to the metal, it looked like cast iron.
Oh yeah, and so a cast iron there. I finally found the word. It's all metal. And he takes it apart, sand blasts it, powder coats it, paints it all up and it's pretty cool. Oh, that's awesome.
It's restoration something I can't remember what the name. I know it'll be in my history on YouTube, so I'll see you the link. Yeah, please do I will. I love those cast iron figures. We used to have Popeye and olive oil cast iron bookends.
And I donated into a thrift store years ago, which was stupid of me. These things happen. Yeah, Buueberry, my goallee, good blueberry flavor, Thereal Buoberry. It's part of this complete breakfast. So the next episode, episode seven is mus must be my Lucky Day.
You and I talked about old timey things. Of course Garfield wasn't so old timey, but I talked about Charlie Chaplin. Yeah, I talked about Chaplain and W. C. Fields, and you talked about our gang and Garfield.
And really the two stand out achievements for me of that episode was that I grabbed my W. C. Field's book out of storage, which is I never met a kid I liked I had to repurchase as an adult, but when I was a kid. This is for some reason, given to me by somebody who either had a snarky sense of humor or didn't like me. And then I also pulled out of storage my Garfield minus Garfield.
Absolute treasure of a book. And I don't know if we talked about this. Maybe we did. I'll listen back, but yeah we did. But this particular aspect of it, that it has the original right next to the the one without Garfield, so you can compare and contrast.
I don't think we've talked about that. No, that's cool though. Yeah, it's both of these books are. They're absolutely amazing. I'll eventually find my original Garfields when we dig through started working on we got a storage unit to get mainly the Christmas and other holiday stuff out of our garage that I haven't looked at my personal boxes yet, and I'm ninety eight percent sure that my Garfield books are all up there.
I didn't go up there and get them, but eventually I will, and hopefully when I do, I'll remember to bring it up. But I did look at a lot of Garfield stuff, particularly particularly that and processing. I can never say those words. The little pencil topper that I remember having that I thought I still had but couldn't find. You know, that's funny.
Right around the time that we talk about this is when I ran across a reissue of the Garfield window stuffy that was very popular in the eighties. That target is now selling. So that was like part of the zeikeist are too interesting. I'll have to look on the in there where they keep the retro stuff. Yeah, the quote unquote retro stuff, rock them sock them robots.
That's where they would have stretch armstrong. So yeah, that's right. And they've got that little puppy, the slinky puppy. That's like in toy story. I always have that etch a sketch.
Mm hm, cool stuff. Are you drinking all right? So up next is episode eight, another thematic episode, Surf and Turf, and uh, probably other than watching Fast Times again, I didn't do anything with it. Didn't buy any new surf clothes, didn't do any of that. So no, you talked about now I look at TNC and mister Zog's and all that from time to time.
But I've got so many T shirts as it is. Yeah, and you talked about the search for animal chin and skate culture. Well, start skating again. I I did. Right around the time take the board out and get your head open.
I broke my arm, just kidding. Right around that time, I was walking through that half abandoned mall Sierra Vista, walked past that little skate shop that's in there, and they have those beautiful black light versions of the vintage Palaperouta boards and that Tommy Guerrero one. Just I just stood there staring at that board. I didn't buy it. It's one hundred and seventy five dollars.
Ooh pricey, but absolutely gorgeous, and I love that that stuff is still around. The vintage boards are still available for people like us. They're too expensive, but I was sure beautiful to see that. And then, of course I rewatched the Search for Animal Chin, which I've rewatched about once a year, and that led me down the path of rewatching all these older videos and the Santa Cruz videos and the Pawaparauta videos, and I went through that sort of phase again, which is again is sort of a yearly thing for me. So thanks to that episode, I got to dig in again.
No big purchases, though I was tempted, Like you said, gotta have limits, gotta have limits. I twanked my knee. Both knees are twinkedris ris Is danked, twanked and danked shoulders bageged The next episode was kind of revelatory for me in a way and for you too, because this is the culmination of the rock Ball experience. But we talked about but this one was called obsess much and it was sort of an down It was focusing on for me the search for the hohosker Do song statues, which I found and I found the compilation CD that it was on that I listened to that I couldn't remember the name of and found that found the song indulged that. I also talked a bit about the Shining and so I watched that again with the family as the girl, our daughter's first time watching it, and that was fun.
You talked about growing up at the Beatles Book and the Winston's rock Ball experience again again, so your hooscer Doo came up because of the bonus rock Ball episode and you mentioned it there and quickly found that, and that made me think of what are the other unsolved mysteries that I still have, and that Beatles Book was one of them, Like I've never figured out what book that was, and that got solved pretty fast for me too. It's so weird doing this stuff looking at things that I know. I have tried to find before and then hitting that one different idea or thought and thinking, Okay, I'm going to look at the spines of all these books that come up, and that helped figured it out. And once I put that title in, man, I was like, oh my god, that's so it.
I think I finished up. Who knows what I talked about the plastic rock balls on that one. I have three of them now, still don't have the brown one, but I look every once in a while and now no more blue balls for me and no more blue balls for you. I'll just wait for the brown one. It'll pop up one of these days.
I had bought the book for the episode, the grown Up the Beatles Book, and I am still looking for the I think I've found it, and I probably mentioned it at some point. The Trivia Beatles book that I had back then as well. That'll come up though. If I end up getting the one that I think is the one that I had, that'll all be saved for when I actually talk about my Beatles obsession, because that'll be an episode that was can You Digging by Georgie would? And now I'd like to do Ah Dangels come episode ten.
My Kudo Man versus Plan nine and I talked about micro nots and you talked about ed Wood. Yes, so did you do any ed Wood stuff? This wasn't that long ago. I know, well, in preparation for that, it was our very first trip to the new what is it, Mad Monk Records, and we picked you. Yeah, well, I mean new to us used to be Resputant Records, after it was Tower Records, and then it became Mad Monk and moved to a new building.
And that must have been like four years ago or something like that. And we just went over there recently, right around the time of this episode. I was inspired to buy the movie finally. I've had it in my Amazon cart for probably years, founded on Blu Ray for a really good price. Really happy to finally have that Edwood movie as part of the collection.
It's a great film. Did not watch any of Edward's movies or rewatch those movies yet, I watched a bunch of clips on YouTube. The thing that really struck me as remarkable was I went to Target and Tony Terrors has a Vampira, I mean, of all characters to come out at the same time that we talked about the ed Wood movie. They released a vampire and now I'm just waiting for them to do a Tor Johnson because that would make me very happy. The vampire figure is actually even though the Tony Terrors line is sort of cartoony versions of the characters, I'm not a big fan of those, this is actually quite good.
I've avoided all kinds of iconic characters because I wasn't happy with the way they looked in this style. Freddy Krueger included just like he did not look good. This looks like Vampira. It's awesome, and I'm just waiting for Tor Johnson because i know Tor Johnson will look great in that style. How about you with microknots well, I kept looking.
I had the one particular one in mind that came with the Easter Island head case for the figure, just a little out of my range. And then a listing popped up from Japan and it was a set of three red figures, all from that series of the ones that come in cases, So the Easter Island Head, the Feroid, and the little Japanese deity which now I can't think of the name of, and they were all in red. The Pharoid is described as red, but it's orange. I mean, if you see the other two that are actually read, that one never looks red. But anyway, it came up set of three for maybe ten dollars more than what the single one that I had been looking at, and free shipping.
I think I put it on my watch list. I'm hoping for a offer. A little hesitant with stuff coming from Japan. I've had some issues with shipping before. All the reviews for our feedback for this person was great.
People were saying it arrived so quickly. I mean I have had stuff arrived from Japan in like three days, but I've also had big issues. Just happened to get a little bit of a refund from our taxes, which we had just paid in October, and I think they applied a penalty to us but sent it back because in California we had until Octo, actually until November that's right to pay because of the storms last year. And so I got a little bit of money back which would have covered this. So the morning I woke up determined to go ahead and take a shot, it was gone.
Somebody had bought it. So I missed out on that chance. Oh darn it. You know, it wasn't meant to be, but that's definitely something that I look for frequently. Yeah, it'll come back your way.
Yeah, hopefully a set will come back like that, because it was really a good deal made each figure a very reasonable price. So even though I missed out on that set. Shortly after that, one of our listeners tagged me in a post, probably tagged Cambridge on Mashawan in the post as well that they had been inspired to look up that Easter Island version of the Microman and got the black version, which the black and yellow is really striking on that figure, so that was cool. That was Jason Jeffers seventy who listens to the show and mentioned that he is the Larry Gingrich that left the nice review of the show. So thank you for both of those things, and I'm glad that that inspired you to track one of those down because they are really really cool figures.
He's great. He actually just followed Skelevator too my Instagram. Cool, So yeah, thanks Jason Jeffers. Now you already talked about your Star Wars stuff at the beginning, because that was on the first episode. The latest episode is all about Star Wars and between recording that and today, I'm not looking for original Star Wars stuff, but I have gone down the path of these guys that are making retro style figures of things that can are never released.
So there are two companies quote unquote companies, guys that are doing this and having the figures factory made. And one of them is called the Next Seventeen, So that's a riff on the last seventeen figures that came out that most people don't like. And then stand Solo Creations, who I think used to be called Smith Lord or something like that. Again, this came to mine, or came to me through toy POLOI. He reviews figures as well as all the repairs that he does on vintage figures, and so he was reviewing these guys, in particular astromech droids that Kinner never made.
So using either the R TWOD two mold or the R five D four mold, he makes all these droids that appear for a second on screen and the original trilogy, and they're really cool looking, really cool paint applications on the domes and sticker designs and colors, and they're super pricey and there aren't any available currently from him, but I know he's making more, and then the next seventeen's got all these funky Cantina or Java Palace characters. I've been looking at those kind of pricey, but I understand the deal. They're getting these made in a factory in most likely very small numbers. I did get though. I found on eBay a listing for a sold out stand solo creation figure of the Baby Banta.
So he has done a two scale Banta for the sand people like the do Bac or the Tonton where you can fit a figure in and it's really cool, but it's sold out. I believe it was going for two three hundred dollars or something like that. He's in England, so it's pounds, so it was like I think the original sale price was one hundred ninety two pounds. I'm not exactly sure what the conversion rate is right now. I found a Baby Banta for a really good deal and got an offer when I put it on my watch list from the Cellar.
And he's fricking adorable and very much in line with the original Kinner figures as far as the material use and how it's constructed, and good paint job and all that. That's more of what I'm looking at, plus some of the retro stuff that Kinner does command Hasbro, which we didn't really talk about on our Star Wars episode. But I have purchased, Like I bought the set for the Mandalorian because I thought that was cool. I haven't bought any of the figures like from the original Kinner lines, like you mentioned getting the Yoda, and I'd like a Jawa, but it comes in a set. Yeah, and I'm not paying seventy dollars for that set to get the Jawa.
Set's pretty good. Some good figures in there, yeah, but I have most of the rest of them I fank that are in that set. I like it when they sell them individually, so yeah, me too. I am looking at the Chopper from Oh Yeah, Ahsoka, which I mentioned on that episode already, but I think I'm gonna go ahead and get that one. I need to see if Cleo wants any of the other figures from Ahsoka and combine them and get them from Hasbro.
I've gotten a few of those. I got the Yoda and I got the Jedi Luke from Return of the Jedi, you know, which was one of my favorite figures as a kid, is pretty pricey if you want to find him with his cloak. And I got the Scout Trooper because that was one of my favorite vintage figures as well. So the reproductions are you know, aside from there being new, they look pretty much like the vintage figures, and I think that's pretty cool to Yoda is I'm sure there are experts out there that might dispute this, but I feel like when I hold him, he feels pretty much like the vintage Yoda. It satisfies that feeling that i'm that I'm the yearning for not having one.
Yeah, some of them are good. I was thinking about the Crimson Guard, but he again, he comes with the set as well. It would be really cool to get a Jawa, but yeah, it comes with the set. The C three PO and R two D two retro figures I am really tempted to they're also part of the set as well. Just to have brand new looking back metal might make purchasing the entire set worth it.
I'm maybe we should get a set and split it up between or something. Let's talk about that. We'll talk about that after. Yes, Well, let's close out this show and we'll talk about that. Thanks everybody for listening.
