Welcome to movie meltdowns out on the town once again i am brian and this is roger again i am still misty jay to decide what to go with today. This is jay. And marlena all right. And uh this week's out of the town feature is nightmare on elm street and what you're currently listening to i'm about to unveil on the crew here um This is, once again, while rummaging around through things, I find all kinds of crazy shit. Luckily, and once again, coincidentally for this week's show, I came across my original issue, Freddy's Greatest Hits on Vinyl here.
Oh, my. That's amazing. He'd like to peruse me. Look at his face. Does he do any rapping?
Look at the back. The back is the best. What is with that move? This is the coolest thing you own. Okay.
We've got to put this on the website. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, we're going to, I think, do nothing. But, yeah, see, I think we're going out with Do the Freddy.
It's pretty classically bad. I'm going to let you guys pick the next two in between now and then. So start thinking about it. There's, let's see. I'm going to have both.
Is there going to be a superhero fan? Well, there's only about, let's. See, there's only about five other ones we can throw out there. That's amazing. I want to join the Freddy fan club.
Can we do that? I think I did, actually. I know I ordered, because there was a little flyer that came in with that, and I'm pretty sure I ordered the t-shirt that came off of there. See, I don't know what it is. The old Freddy still, to me, looks better than the new one.
The new one just does not look good. Which I guess we'll get into in a minute. Yeah. So, to continue on, but yeah, I had to bust that out, and I figure that will be our music for this episode, even though... The vocals on this album are provided by Robert England, of course, who is not in any way, shape, or form affiliated with this movie.
I don't really care. We're geeks. We mesh things together in no big mess. So that's what we're going to do. So that will be our theme music for the evening.
Awesome. Good. All right. So this week is Nightmare on Elm Street. A year is 2010 since we just went to the theater and saw it.
Director Samuel Bayer, the plot, as they put it on IMDb, A reimagining of the horror icon Freddy Krueger, a serial killer who wields a glove with four blades embedded in the fingers and kills people in their dreams, resulting in their real death in reality, which isn't that redundant. Yeah. Nice wording, IMDb. So, we'll throw out a big spoiler alert right here, because it's a brand new movie, and we're probably going to go well into what the hell's going on. Is it really a spoiler?
Because, I mean, really, it's the same thing that happened in the first movie, like 20 some odd years ago. Mostly. There were a few changes. Not so many, but okay, go ahead. So, where would you like to begin on Nightcrown Elm Street?
I was not happy with this movie for many different reasons. It was fun at some points. At some points, it was fun. As long as you had never seen the first one, maybe? Yeah, I think I had a little reaction to that.
I still think we should have seen this on Dixie Highway. It would have been a lot more entertaining with the people yelling at the screen. Now you've got to wait until Dollar Night. Yeah, Dollar Night would have been a lot more fun. To get the full advantage of the drunken debauchery.
I really like the movie, personally. I was not a big fan of this Freddie. I mean, I wanted to like him because I liked that guy in other stuff, but I did not like, I didn't like the makeup. I didn't like the way he looked. I didn't like the way he sounded.
I didn't like the way he was written. His lines were just retarded, which is, you know, yeah, they were retarded in the original one, but still at least Robert Englund was awesome enough to be able to pull them off. It was just, it fell flat. And I was just, That is something I was surprised with, because everybody kept saying, you know, oh, you know, Robert Englund's Freddy got so cheesy, and this one's going to be dark, and this one's not going to be all the quippy one-liners. And I was like, many times in this movie, it gets pretty one-liner.
But he couldn't pull them off. Yeah, he doesn't have the charisma that Robert Englund did in the makeup. Like, I mean, I'm sure even Robert Englund could have pulled off the cheesy, I was just petting him line. Not this guy. Stupid.
Yeah, there's several of those that were like, wow, that was... that was just really cheesy and it didn't yeah he just didn't have the fun with it to pull it off they just kind of fall flat when he does. Them I didn't like the makeup I thought the original 1984 makeup looked a hell of a lot better yeah maybe not realistic exactly I don't care. Though it's a movie I don't need realism I. Definitely like the original Freddie's makeup a. Lot better yeah and I think the problem was number one they tried to change it and make it realistic but the other problem is Jackie Earl Haley's face And I'm not complaining.
I actually like him in the real world, but I'm saying the mixture of the two makes it look weird. Like, he looks like an alien. Yeah, he does. He does. He looks real smooth.
Like, his face is cratered and stuff, but it almost has this smoothness to it. It's the nose area. They gave him this big, wide area in the middle that looks like some sort of weird alien. Like the beast. Yeah, like some sort of, yeah.
It just doesn't look right. Am I the only one that thinks Jackie Earl Haley is creepy enough outside of the makeup? Yeah. Oh, yeah. I mean, he was easily creepier in the flashbacks.
Yeah. Yeah. I definitely thought. I was like, oh, freckles. Freckles.
Freckles. Well, he obviously had, like, you know, bad acne or something when he was younger. Yeah. So he's got those pockmarks and craters and scars. Yeah.
Or, I don't know, maybe Chipper Shredder just hit my face. Well, even as a kid, he wasn't a cute kid. I mean, he was a good actor when he was a little kid. He grew up and kind of disappeared and got scarier looking as he got older. And now he's sort of using that to his advantage.
I mean, he's playing every villain in all the movies now, but. He wasn't a villain in The Watchmen. Rorschach wasn't really. Rorschach's kind of a villain. I mean, you know, for a superhero, he's pretty close to a villain.
Kind of a vigilante villain. Yeah. I mean, he certainly doesn't really play by anybody's rules. I don't think they overdid the makeup. They were trying so hard for realism that it just became fake in how real they were trying to make it.
Yeah. I don't know. I think there are parts... I thought the makeup was really good. Like, it almost...
Seemed like you could see into his cheek a couple times to where just that meatiness. I don't know. I thought it was really good, but not so much a burn victim. Maybe a burn victim who's been picking at his scabs constantly. Or one that got skin grafts.
Oh, yeah. He's already got skin grafts. Whereas the old Freddy looks like he got burned and his flesh got ripped off. Yeah, yeah. It was a lot scarier.
Not that Nightmare was scared, but he looked freakier. Well, the first one was. The first one was, and that's the one thing that I was excited for, just seeing the commercials, that the first one... First one is, it's creepy. It's really, you know, it's really creepy.
And still even nowadays it holds up to, like, give me chills. Like, ugh. But this was not in any way, shape, or form. I liked how they kind of kept the whole body bag in the dream sequence in the school. Yeah.
Because that part was really fucking creepy in the first one. The thing I liked about this one is that they kept my favorite scenes. The body bag scene, the scene where she's walking and her feet sink through the stairs. Stink, yeah. And then also the scene where, the part I didn't like, the scene where he comes, his face comes out of the wall.
It was too CGI. That looked terrible. It was terrible. It looks so good in the original. That was my response to it.
After watching it, I saw it. I was like, oh my God, that's horrible. Yes. No. Yes.
Yeah. And I was just like, it wasn't bad enough that he was coming through the wall when they actually put his face on there. I'm like, I'm pretty sure we can figure out who it is. You don't have to change it to the right color and everything. We're at Nightmare on Elm Street.
We're pretty sure it's Freddy coming through the wall. But it's funny that you guys like that, because that was one of my least favorite things about this version, was that they kept all that stuff in. I really, and I say this about a lot of cheesy remakes, I wish they would just take a really light version of the story and just go their own way, and I think this one almost stuck too close to trying to hit all the big famous marks from the last one. It's like, well, we've got to work the body bag in, and we've got to. Work the flying bed scene.
But I'm surprised that they didn't do the pulling, like, you know, into the bed. The Johnny Depp scene. Which, I mean, they still kind of did their tribute to it yeah they kind of went backwards but you know they still did their little tribute to it but in a way I was just like it's almost like they were working too hard to hit those like these are the really famous scenes we've got to work these in that's. What people want to see they have a certain preconceived notion as to what should be in the movie and they're like. Yeah but people are stupid that's my problem yeah People need to just not be so lame.
But people are comfortable with that. They want to stay in their comfort zone. They're like, well, people love this the first time. If we put them to like this, they're going to want. To do that.
But I think that's bullshit. I wish they would just make a good movie of their own. You can take this basic idea. Because, I mean, there's a hell of a lot of potential there. It's like all you have to do is once you enter the dream world, you can do fucking anything.
So, I mean, really, they've got unlimited ways that they could take this and and they stick really close, and it's almost like they do start to stray off here and there, but it's like they have to make a U-turn sometimes to get back to, oh wait, we gotta work this scene in. So I almost wish they would've strayed further away from that, because when it got to the body bag scene, or when it got to the flipping around in the bed scene, I just watched the other one the night before and I'm like, I've already seen these. And not, I've just seen these the night before. It's just like, these are familiar. Like, I've already seen this.
If you're, you know, you only get a chance to make so many movies, Mr. Director. You know, it's like you only get a chance to do so much. Why take something... We've already seen almost shot for shot only make it a little worse in some cases because I didn't even like the flipping around in the bed scene.
I think that's ridiculous and overdone. It was really creepy the first time because there's very little to it. And then she flips around and then she hits up on the ceiling and is like calling out to him. And the first one is like disturbing and weird. This looks like fucking gymnastics.
And the blood I think was a lot better in the first one too to where like when he like dug his claws it was almost like And she hit the bed. It was almost like an explosion to where this was just kind of like a leaking. It was just kind of like. I don't know. She's leaking.
It wasn't as dramatic in the right way as it was in the first movie, I feel. I will give it props on its dream sequences, though. I mean, the visuals in it were good, I thought. The transfers between dreams and the way... Yeah, I mean, it's pretty close to the way my head works, you know, when you're in one spot, and then all of a sudden, bam, you're.
In another spot, and you're like, what the hell? Which the first one did that, too, but this one did a really good version of that. They did a really good version. Of that, and there were a lot of good, just the backgrounds, the visuals were great, but, you know, like you said, it's all... These were all shocks that have already been done.
We've already seen them try to shock us in a new way. Once we see her rolling around on the ceiling, you're like. Oh, we already know what's going to happen. He's going to claw us to the chest, and then the other guy's going to run out the room, and he's going to get blamed for it. We already know this.
Yeah. So do something different. Do something that's going to, you know, catch us off guard. Like have a mini Freddy jump out of her chest and run around. And then there's like a mini Freddy in reality that they have to deal with.
Wasn't that like five or six? I thought by the time they hit dream child, he had a mini Freddy. Was it? I'm pretty sure. I think there was.
Oh my God. Now I have to go back and watch it. That sounds awesome. Oh man. I think the reason that I like this movie, um, I know we were talking earlier about how they try to give backstories to villains and make them seem like they're not villains.
And I was kind of pissed at a certain point in the movie they kind of did that because at the point when the parents told the kids... Like, the teenagers didn't remember that and they thought that the parents had just, like, misconstrued what they said and he was coming back to get them because they lied. And at that point of the movie, I was just like, oh, fuck this movie. But at the end, when they find out that he's coming to get them because. They weren't lying, not.
Because they were. And they still gave Freddy a little bit of backstory when they chased him into the warehouse and set it on fire and stuff like that. I thought it was just enough to make the movie, for it to make sense. They didn't overdo it and over try to make you Oh, poor Freddy. He just misunderstood.
Yeah, that's kind of what I was afraid of. Because I saw that part in there where he was kind of like watching the previews. Where he's like, I didn't do anything. And I was like, oh, my God, you got to be kidding me. I mean, he did do something.
I mean, come on. So when they do finally get to that point, you're like, yeah, yeah, see, see, I told you. But still, even with the new Freddy, and even though you find out all the stuff, it doesn't make him as likable as the old Freddy. For some reason, you knew the old Freddy was evil. But he had charisma.
But he had charisma, and it made you like him. And you didn't care if he was killing teenagers or not, because... More than likely, if you're most of the geeks like we were, you were sitting around going, yeah, take that. Yeah, yeah. You were siding with it.
Yeah. Especially in the sequels. I mean, by the time you hit four and on, you're just there to watch him hack up teenagers. You want them all to die. The first one, you don't feel that way.
You know, the Heather Lander camp is a good main character. You like her. You're on her side. You like Johnny Depp. You know, you're on their side, but...
By the time he becomes the hero of the movie, he is what you're there for, and you're there to watch him hack up these annoying kids. So they make the kids more annoying and more ridiculous. As they go on. Well, also another thing that I liked about this movie, in the original, it was more like the kids were paying for what the parents did. The kids weren't necessarily involved.
Like, Freddy didn't have a hand in hurting them so much. Yeah. But in this one, Freddy had. I do. He was after them and not.
Specifically, those kids. Like, they've got the photo. He's icing them in order of, you know, whoever he wanted to. Yeah. So, it...
I do like that. And that was what I was going to say on the, on the, what I, you know, I went through some of the things I didn't like, what I did like was sort of the mystery aspect of it. They do enter into that like middle hour there that becomes, you know, the two of them sort of trying to track down all the facts and trying to backtrack and figure out where, you know, how come we don't know about this, you know, this school that we went to and where are all these other kids that, you know, have disappeared. And, So I like that angle. I think, again, I think that's what it should have focused more on is quit trying to hit all these specific scenes that we've seen before.
And focus more on that and just go somewhere else. Just take that story and run with it. Because, like, the scene in the drugstore, that was a whole new thing. I kind of like that. He's attacking her in the middle of the drugstore.
Shit's getting knocked off on the shelf. So it's like he's sort of crossing over into the real world at that point with her. That was sort of an original thing. And then, you know, they get sort of off track after that. Yeah.
I didn't even mind when they end up in the cave and they learn more. That was kind of cool, too, because it ties to that story that you were saying. It's like him sort of getting even with these kids for basically selling them down the river. And they are the reason he is the way that he is. So it does make more sense.
And it's more directly related to the kids versus the original. Yeah, that's what I liked about it. I did like that part. Nice. I like for the most part that kids weren't incredibly obnoxious in this movie.
Yeah. Aside from the boyfriend. He kind of wanted him to die just because he seemed like an asshole. The one that went to prison? Yeah.
Yeah, he was a douche. He was kind of an asshole. For the most part, I didn't hate the kids in this movie. Like, I like Katie Cassidy. She's adorable.
She's David Cassidy's daughter, and she was in Harper's Island, which I loved. So I like her. Can we talk about the blonde, though? What was the blonde's name? Katie Cassidy?
Like the main blonde? Yeah, the first one. Chris? Died, Chris. Yeah, Katie Cassidy.
How old is she? Is she mid-20s? She looks it. As they're sitting in high school, I was like, isn't that chick 30? Like, what the hell is she doing in high school?
She was one of the ones that definitely did not fit that. She didn't. Like, I mean, Beaver can almost still pull off high school. But I'm just like, that chick was just like, dude, seriously. Like, when she stood up next to her mom, I was like, what'd you do as the mom?
I was like, she. Looks as old as her mom. But I still liked her. Yeah, I didn't dislike her. And it wasn't overly distracting that she was, I mean, it was noticeable.
It wasn't like over to the point where like, no, this fuck is me. But I mean. How is Beaver getting these roles? I'm sorry. You can't make horror movies without him anymore.
But I don't understand because he's. Not really attractive. I don't know. I like him though. He was really cute in Veronica Mars but he's just gotten like ugly.
He had a little mustache, too, that really creeped me out. A crustache? It was very strange. The rape stache. But it's like, how does he keep getting these roles?
Who the hell are you talking about? Beaver. The Johnny Depp kid. The one that lives through. The whole story, basically.
Oh, that kid? Yeah. He was Beaver and Veronica Mars. I like him. I mean, as a character, he's...
He's okay. He's a tolerable character. But he's not... For the most part, actors are supposed to be like... and you put him on the wall. You'd think it'd be the boyfriend who got that role, because he's the pretty boy, the one that went to prison.
No, the pretty, pretty boy was Kellen Lutz, who got killed off in the first, like, ten minutes. The one in the diner? Yeah, he was from fucking Twilight. You're going to kill him off in the first ten minutes? Whatever.
I'm trying to think what he reminded me of. He's a dracula he should have got killed off that soon yeah but um still i liked him i mean i. Didn't i'm so i was surprised they offed him as quick as they did because i thought they were setting him up to be sort of you know carrying the story and i thought he would make it about to win the blonde you know comes in it. Was one of the bigger names in it like i said after just gotten off twilight you figured he'd have. More he didn't have enough time one thing that I do like about The Nightmare on the Middle Streets, they set you up to follow someone who you think is the main character and you're going to be following throughout the movie.
Like with Chris. And she dies. I like that. They did change gears like three times right off the bat. It's like we think it's the guy, but you kind of can see him getting taken.
But you do sort of follow the Chris girl for a good amount of time. Like longer than... Cause watching the original last night, that's what I forgot was how quick we offer. Like, I mean, you get maybe a couple of scenes and in the first 15 minutes she's gone and it switches gears and you follow Heather the rest of the movie. I mean, I've liked that ever since Psycho.
Yeah. There haven't been quite enough movies for me where it's like the work, work actually catches you off guard because you find you're actually invested in this character and then, Oh wait, shit, they're dead. Now what? That's an interesting way to do a storyline, and a lot of Hollywood stuff doesn't want to do that because it wants to have its bankable actor and it doesn't think the audience is smart enough to change gears like that and follow. A new one.
They're usually not. Yeah, they aren't really, which is funny. I like the little flashback scene we see where they chase him into the warehouse, but I've noticed how many movies do that now where they'll have the character like, have some sort of, like, they're in the flashback. They're standing there watching it, but nobody sees them. And I think it's just an excuse to be able to full-on show you the entire scene of the flashback because we're too dumb to piece the story together.
And it's probably necessary for a lot of people, but... I just think it's funny because I see that a lot in movies now. It gave us more of a chance to see Clancy Brown. I love me some Clancy Brown. He should be in everything.
Who's Clancy Brown? He was in Carnival. The dad. Oh, Brother Justin. Yes.
Yeah, I loved him. He was also in Lost. Also in Highlander. Yep, that's true. He's been in a lot of awesome, awesome stuff.
And some bad stuff too. What the hell are you saying? I mean, I guess we're safe in that they gave us that minor flashback into Kruger's life because they really could have gone the Halloween route and we could have gotten him as a kid. Somebody killing his cat and his dad being an alcoholic and beating the hell out of him. And Sherry Moon was his mom.
Sherry Moon was his mom. I'd probably kill people if she were my mom. Then he goes to Juvie. And, I mean, we really could have, like, gotten a whole lot of backstory on shit we don't care about and isn't necessary. Yeah.
I do like that it sort of just gives you that glimpse of it, but I like the time we spend with him as a real person, because I think it does. And maybe that's why we don't like him so much. Maybe that's why the old Freddy Krueger we liked, we could get behind, because we don't really know what happened. We're just like, whatever. He's a child killer.
Yeah, that too. But again, that's not his fault. He's just the evil demon seed. I kind of think that the reason everyone likes... Old, original Freddy is basically, like Misty said, because of Robert Englund's charisma.
He's charismatic. He really is. I actually felt a little bit of sympathy at certain points at the scene where they're, like, burning the warehouse down. Yeah. For him in this movie, you know.
And, I mean, it was small, you know, because. Yeah. People like that. I don't really. But that scene right before that, like when he's out in the yard playing with the kids and you're like, there's a minute where you're like, well, what if he didn't do anything?
Because he does really seem to like these kids and they sort of give you this glimpse at like what could have been a normal relationship. So you do kind of start to worry, it's like, what if he didn't do anything? What if it was, you know, wrongfully, you know, accused, and then they just vigilante'd his ass, and, you know, which would be a different turn in the movie, and I think it would have been less likable as the series goes on if he was, oh, he's innocent, no, you know, I think it makes him more of a villain that, you know, for the story is if he actually did do that, and it makes more sense as, you know, as the story goes, but. My only question is, now that he's off to all the kids except for the two...
Now how is he going to come back and get a whole new batch of kids? He did that every movie, though, if you remember. Yeah, but in the original movie, he wasn't specifically after a number of kids that had ratted him out. It was the kids of Elm Street. All kids of Elm Street.
This time, yeah, it was very specific kids. Is he going to be after their kids now? Maybe. Maybe it's going to flash forward into the future and those two people will have hooked. Up and had babies.
23,000. Awesome. It's going to take them a thousand years. Well, it couldn't be Freddy 2000 because it's already 2000. Freddy X.
Freddy X. Freddy goes to space. No, it's supposed to be the fourth in all the series. They'll do a pre-prequel. And then we'll look at the whole backstory.
I don't know. This Freddy was human, more human, and the other Freddy was just more of like this hilarious.... He wasn't even... Again, to just go back to that first one, he wasn't in that first movie. He is...
He's got a few of the one-liners, but he is... He's more mysterious in the first one. Like, you really had no idea... who he is in the beginning like it's hard to do that on this movie this remake because we have so much backstory on him you know we as an entire generation have been watching him so it's hard to be like who is this guy and what's his motivation you know I mean it's hard to look at it like a new character when even if they change stuff we're all so familiar with him whereas you watch that first Nightmare on Elm Street nobody had any idea who this character was and you do start wondering why he's here and why he's attacking these kids and it does leave a lot of like sort of ambiguity to it like you don't know what his motivation is whereas this one I mean it's pretty early on you start you know again you can't go into it fresh you've got so much backstory that you know why he's doing it but I mean rewatching the first one there's a lot of that that's just like up in the air like you're just like where is this weird character coming from why is he killing him why does he have crazy dream powers and it's just hard to take a fresh look on a property that's so well known.
It's been so long since I don't remember why he was killing. Him It's the parents. Just revenge against the parents for having set him on fire. Why did they set him on fire again? Because he was a child.
Molester and killer. Again, he was just a killer. He was a child murderer is what they referred to in the old one. They never said anything about molesting kids. But, I mean, as the series went on, a lot of people just assumed that he was molesting children.
You've got to find ways to make it more despicable. Yeah. Well, see, the other thing that kind of gets you on the whole movie, too, is you know at some point they're going to... In the first Freddy movie, you didn't know too much about him, like you were saying. He was in these dreams, and you were like, holy shit, there's this guy.
He's in the dreams. You don't know how to kill him. How are they going to kill him? How do you fight a dream? Whereas now that you see the first movie, you already know all the backstory.
You're like, okay, all they've got to do is pull him into reality, and then they can kill him. Come on, pull him into reality. So you already know all that shit. So that takes out half the shit right there. Well, and they just kept reworking the rules every movie.
Yeah. Because even at the end of this one, spoiler alert, they defeat Freddy. But I was like, well, okay, now he's gone. I was like, well, wait, he's gone at the end of every fucking Freddy movie. Like, they beat him at the end of every Freddy movie, and then some little magical thing happens at the end, and he laughs, and, you know, he's coming back in the next one.
So, I mean, no matter what... an end all be all way to get rid of him that they come up with by the next movie you know he's coming back so it doesn't really even matter how they wrap this one up either it's just like well shit as long as this makes money we know he's coming back so no matter what you do to kill him or defeat him or send him off to never never land or whatever the fuck you want to call it it doesn't matter as long as he makes money we know he's coming back they're gonna find the loophole. Towards the end, it kind of bothered me. It was probably a big spoiler. When she throws the lantern thing against the wall and catches the far side of the room on fire. I'm like, no, I would have caught his ass on fire right then and there.
Yeah. Because they leave. You could have time to crawl back out. At first, that's what I thought she was going to do. I thought she was going to finish setting him on fire that they did 20-some odd years ago.
No, she just throws it across the room, the farthest corner from where he actually... I'm like, no. Bitch tried to kill me. No. I think she was just trying to burn those naked pictures of herself.
I'd take his hand and end up fucking killing himself with his own damn hand. I mean, they cut his hand off. I mean, come on. Spoiler alert. He just stabbed the fucker to death with his own hand.
In part two, is it going to be like duct tape back on? Yeah. You know? I don't know. Who knows?
Who knows? Oh, Freddy. You wacky guy. You cheeky monkey. You cheeky bastard.
Maybe that's just me. Maybe I would have wanted to see him burn first. I thought it was just some sort of poetic irony of, ha ha, now he's on fire again. Oh my gosh. That's what I was just really just finishing the job the parents did.
Yeah, seriously. The parents half-assed it and she was going to finish the job. This time I'm going to freeze them. Then she equally half-asses it and leaves. Yeah.
But I mean, you don't want to like watch someone burn in a building as. You're standing to get away. Yeah. All the things you did to all her friends. Fuck you.
Somebody killed all my friends. I'm going to sit there and watch them burn. That's because you're evil. We know that. I'd do the same thing.
I wouldn't burn him, though. I'd smash him with a sledgehammer. Yeah, so you know that? Yeah, definitely. Destroy him.
We didn't have crazy booby traps. I forgot about that in the old one. Crazy booby traps. And I said this last night. Was it a sledgehammer to the chest?
Yeah, it was awesome. I said this last night when I was watching. I was like, you know, John Hughes owes Wes Craven a little credit, basically. Because, I mean... That was years before Home Alone, and she booby-trapped her house to defeat the bad guy.
I was like, come on now. John Hughes had to rip that off a little bit. Because I don't remember anybody booby-trapping their own house to defeat the bad guy before. Freddie well you do it now but not when 84 i know. I don't know.
I wouldn't put it past you as a four-year-old. That's the other thing that I was laughing about was when they were digging out the boxes marked 96 and 97. I was sitting over in the corner giggling because I was like, I was drunk at a bar in 96 in Florida. Yeah, she's looking back at her childhood. I'm like, wow, way back in 97.
Yeah, whoa. I was going to work that day. Preschool my ass. And again, if you look at the boxes and if you went back that far, she might have been the age of the character she was supposed to have actually been playing. Yeah, she is.
It made sense to me. Shut up. No, I'm just saying for her. Robot Chicken did this funny Freddy Krueger backstory thing. I can't remember exactly how it went, but it was just like a series of unfortunate events that led to him being late.
I think I remember seeing that. That's pretty funny. Like his kid gave him an itchy sweater. Oh, the sweater's so itchy. I vaguely remember that.
But nobody can remember the details. I don't remember anything else about it, but yeah. I just know I'm going to have to put that up on the internet in a little while. So what did you think of the new Nancy? Yeah.
She's really pretty uh but she she sucked as far as i like well i liked how the old nancy was you could she was freaked out and you could tell that she was really like on the edge of having a nervous breakdown every second in the movie yeah this just didn't look ready for a nap she just yeah she was like i'm an artist and whatever and God, I don't want to go to sleep, but I could. I didn't get any of that. She's about to freaking lose control. I don't want to go to sleep. I can't go to sleep.
But here, I'll take a bubble bath. Yeah, really? Oh, my God. No, the guy had the right idea. He's stealing adrenaline.
Adrenaline. That's how you do it. And it still didn't keep him awake. He didn't put it in his heart. He just put it in his leg.
It's Bieber. He had a rocket surgery. It's going to go to your foot. I mean, I guess it would have been true. Did you have a rocket surgery?
But yeah, I don't think she did a good job at all as far as. Being on the raggedy edge, she just didn't play that as well as the original did. Yeah, she's way more under control about it. She wasn't as ingenuitive either. No, no.
Well, and she didn't have that, I'm going to fight back. No. Nancy in the old one just gets pissed. She's just like, I'm in control of this. You're killing my friend.
And that's what I was waiting for. I was waiting for her at some point to go, I'm in charge of this shit now. Yep. And she never really did. It never happened.
And that's the other thing they have to figure out, usually in all these movies, is number one, if you get him out in the real world, you can destroy him. Number two, it's a dream. If you learn how to control the dream, you can do whatever the fuck you want. You can defeat him just as easily. So they never really get into that either.
It's like they're just trapped in the dream world, and the only way for them to fight him is to bring him out into the real world. But I think, and maybe they're just saving up for the sequels. I don't know. But I think that was always an interesting way they would go in a lot of the sequels, even as bad as the sequel's got, is when the kids would learn to make use of the dream world and actually use that to their advantage and fight against it. They even make a comment in this one about how that's the main point of the nightmares is that you don't have control and that's what makes them scary and what makes them so hard is that you don't have control.
So maybe because of that, he is controlling the dream world, and even you in your dream can't have any say over it. I guess. I mean, maybe they just are going in an entirely different direction, because I know they tried to find... Yeah, I mean, they do bring that up. So, I mean, it is something that maybe they just... thought that was very unrealistic not that this is realistic yeah it.
Seems in the original nancy just randomly arrived at this conclusion that she can pull freddy into the real world i don't remember there being a part where she she pulled. His hat she yeah she's got the hat okay in the scene with roger rabbit remember. Yeah okay i forgot about it was the scene that we're trying to do the uh sleep analysis yeah like that on her and she pulls the hat. Out But yeah, this one, after he steals the drugs, is it just me or was that a big Pulp Fiction thing? Yeah.
We had a nice little nod to Pulp Fiction there. Because even when she sat up, she sat up and pulled it out exactly like Uma Thurman. She just looks at her chest like, the fuck is this needle doing to my chest? That's the same reaction I have every time. Yeah.
Every couple of weeks when we have to adrenalize your ass. It's usually during the show. Pretty much. That would hurt. You're safe.
You don't know. No, I've had needles very close to my chest in the last week. It fucking hurts. You're not that. You won't know.
You just got the initial shock of waking up going, what the fuck's this needle. Doing to my chest? So while we're on the changes that they've made, how about the... The scientific evidence that they throw in now that your brain shuts down after 72 hours, which I'm pretty sure he kept saying they were micronauts. If not, that's what I'm going to call it.
From here on out, your brain has micronauts, and you start dreaming even if you're awake. How do I collect them all? Collect all the micronauts. Micronauts were cool. Yeah.
So, yeah, I don't know. What did you think of that addition to it? Was it real? I don't know. I mean, as long as they're not metachlorians, I'm fine.
You do start going crazy and like dreaming while you're awake after you've not slept for so long but the whole like going into a coma after you haven't slept for four days just i don't think. That's was it only four days i thought they said it was 72 hours but maybe that was the. Micro they've still adjusted it because i mean in the old one i think she was up to like seven days of not really sleeping and she said the record was like 11 or something so they definitely went a different more scientific route. On this one well they got that one guy Just like in Guinness records, I think, that hasn't slept at all in, like, I forgot how many years. Does he take naps?
No, I don't think he takes naps either. He just works. Does he power nap? No. Does he have Micronauts?
I don't think he has Micronauts. He's got the whole set. He's collected them all. In that much time. Yes.
Good Lord. I like that her hair did not go gray. I'm surprised it did. I like that in. The first one.
I thought it was kind of a cool look for the old Nancy. I thought about doing that with mine too. It's purple instead. I've already done that with mine. It's natural.
It's about ready to die too. You didn't need Freddy for that. Come on man, I'm going for the Nick Fury look. You're going for. The old look.
I gotta keep you looking young. Just do what she wants, Jay. It'll be easier. It is. For everyone.
I'll win eventually anyways. She will. It's not fair. Life's not fair. All right, back to them.
Oh, so I don't know. What sort of our final thoughts on it? It was tolerable. It would be a lot better if I hadn't seen the first one. It was watchable.
It's fun at some points, but I don't think it's anywhere near... Nothing's ever going to touch the original. No, no. I didn't like that guy as Freddy just because he didn't have any charisma whatsoever. He didn't have any.
To me, really. He really didn't. I mean, he works as the original version. He works in the flashbacks really well, but he just doesn't have, you know, even without the charisma. They seem pretty proud of their effect of having his glove break something metal just so they can have sparks.
They overused the hell out of it. Super sparks. We do like sparks. I mean, shiny things and sparks. We like that.
But not like it's like lighting a fuse to dynamite or something like that. Because that's what I'm saying. And every scene they had him in, he had to have it too. It's a dream. I didn't like the way he was like.
You're right. Like, yeah. Yeah, he did like the clicky sound. He didn't do that in the old one, so not so much. He just did the blade noise.
I didn't know if that was like him being excited or if he was just like a nervous tick or whatever. Or just fucking with him. Hey, listen to these. I'm going to stab you with these in a minute. Cha-cha-cha.
Yeah. I don't know. I really liked the movie and Freddy was definitely not as good as the original Freddy, like no charisma, but you know, I like the way it went into more detail about his backstory. And it kind of made, it made a little bit more sense to me, but I think they could have had more like surrealistic dream scenes. Like at the very beginning where the guy is like wandering through the diner and there's like all these pig heads and like really gross shit.
And then like, he's following this weird, creepy waitress and That part was cool, but there was another. Yeah, that part was cool. Every dream, they were just in the boiler room, which is scary at first, but when everyone's down there, it's just kind of like, ah, we've seen this. It's like the boiler room again. I know.
That was the one thing I was going to bring up is why is there a boiler room in this movie? Yeah. He wasn't killed in the boiler room. He wasn't. I mean, and he didn't work in a boiler room.
The old one was part of it. He worked in a boiler room, and then they chased him to the boiler room, and it all tied in. That's a good point. now it's like he lived in a basement but not a boiler room there wasn't fire everywhere it was a basement. It was held in a factory but it wasn't like a boiler it was. A factory it was like a truck it looked like a truck junkyard or something because they had all the tractor trailers out there when they chased him in and.
It just looks like he got killed the tool shit. Yeah it was like it doesn't have anything to do with the boiler room so why the hell It's another one of those that like we've got so much lore of Freddy at this point that it's like we almost have to work in the boiler room even though now with them changing the story it makes no sense. Yeah. I don't know. The only thing that bothered me a lot was they seemed to rely too heavily on like the they weren't even like jump scares they were like Everything's okay.
Then he'll move his face real fast and you'll see his face. It wasn't even regular jump scares where someone would make a loud sound. It was just like. Those edits they do where they edit out five and he just suddenly turns around because they edited it. They seem to do that quite a bit.
It's really popular. Every movie, specifically horror movies, love to do that. It seemed to overdo it. It seemed to rely too heavily on that because I love jump scares. I love everything gets all tense and then all of a sudden something will jump out.
But I don't like that just cutting scenes where it just... comes in i don't know. I think yeah i think they've gotten into that in the last like 10 years it's like all those movies like the parasite eve movies and like all of those that like now anytime something's supposed to be freaky they've got to edit it so it's all jerky and all of a sudden they're looking at you and it's creepy and i'm like i've seen this a thousand. Times the first time that they started doing that in movies that freaked the fuck out of me nothing was ever scary but now it's just every. Movie it I mean, I saw it years ago. The first time I remember somebody doing that, I'm pretty sure, was in Jacob's Ladder.
They did that fucked up stuff. And that was Adrian Lyon. That was a long damn time ago. But it took them, like, ten years before it became just something they had to stick into every bad horror movie. Just the whole speeding up process.
Yeah, the speeding up, jerky, unnatural look. And it is creepy. It was really scary in The Exorcist when she, like, goes, ooh. That first couple of times you saw it, you're like, that's fucked up. That is weird.
But now, again, now if you put it in every movie that comes out every weekend, it's not creepy anymore. Like every creepy girl you see climbing downstairs, all jerky-like. Yeah. We've seen that before. Every remake, it's like, it's not.
Any Marilyn Manson video. Yeah, really. It was really scary at first, but now it's just like, you've seen it. Yeah, you need to find, well, that's the problem, is they need to come up with another way to freak people out. I know.
Which is why the rain creeped me out so much the first time we watched it, because I had not seen that before. You had not seen that before, yeah. What are they. Going to bring out that nobody's seen now? Yeah, well, somebody will figure out something.
As far as my feelings on this movie, it was okay. I still like the original better, which is kind of why I'm like, well, it didn't need to be remade. So I really don't have that much of a feeling on this movie. It's just like, eh, it's a movie. Am I going to see it again?
No. If I rent movies or if we decide. To download a movie, am I going to download this one or the first Nightmare on Elm Street? I'll download the first one. I'll watch the first one.
I don't care about this one. I mean, that was kind of my thing. I wasn't... I didn't... That.
Would be awesome as a segue for the show. It actually would. That's for you guys. Sorry, Roger fell asleep. I'm taking my 10-second nap.
Your micro-nap? My micro-nap. Yeah, definitely. Sorry. That was my fault.
I totally interrupted. So, no, my thing was.... I mean, I didn't hate it. Like, I ended up liking it more than I expected, I guess. I mean, I liked the mystery aspect of it.
I didn't hate the kids as much as... I mean, most of these remakes have really annoying kids, and I didn't hate most of them. You didn't get over... For once, it was a teen movie that you didn't get beat down with drugs and, you know, sex. Yeah, that was Roger's main complaint.
No titties in this movie! Seriously, come on. I mean, that's why I liked the characters more, because you didn't have that, you know, over-stereotypical bullshit in there. You didn't have that, you know... hey dude let's go get high a little little sex little premarital sex little drug use it's like which is why i think i like the characters. They sort of scaled it back because i mean even the old one we had premarital sex and this one we don't get any of that they like take a nap together you know that's the most we get in this new one a little So maybe it's aiming more for that PG-13 crowd, even though it's not.
I mean, I don't know. I don't know if that was on purpose, if they were just trying to keep it from crossing that line with people. That's how America works, though. You can have all the blood and violence you want, but if anyone, like, shows a nipple. Oh, God.
Jesus Christ. It just puts it in a different category of movie. You can have those, but it just sort of ups the ante, and then you get a lot more flack for that kind of stuff. Yeah. I guess I see why from their marketing standpoint, possibly.
Maybe they think they can hit a wider audience with this version of it. But I don't know. To me, I think the end result is it's not bad, but I'm still just kind of let down by the potential that they don't do anything new. I think watching them as recently as I did, I still find, like even now... How many years later, and the fact that I've seen it many, many times, some of those scenes are still disturbing.
Like, a lot of them. Like, even the basic, you know, when she flies up off the bed. Like, I remember the first time seeing that was fucked up. And then her on the ceiling. And then the blood fountain obviously fucked kids up for generations.
So... Like, there's a lot of those scenes, and it's not just one or two. There's quite a few in that first movie that are just, like, jarring and were totally original. The body bag scene fucked you up when you were a kid, and she's sitting there. And the fact that they recreate that, it's just kind of like, ugh.
But we've already seen that. That was fucked up the first time I saw it. Now it's just you paying homage to it, but we've already seen it. You know, it's, yeah, it's not cool. So I think that's what I'm most let down by is the fact that they just... they were too busy trying to hit all those marks of the old one.
I really think the old one doesn't get enough credit for having these kind of cool groundbreaking scenes. Whereas the, the new one just seems like it's, it's just trying to tap into that too much and it doesn't bother to explore anything new, but it almost reminds me of, uh, and I've got a kid, so it almost reminds me of the episode of SpongeBob where, uh. The, uh, we're, uh, Oh God. Now I can't think of the pirates name, the ghost, uh, david no damn it what the hell's. His name i think i know who you're talking about but i can't yeah.
It's the one that scares everybody uh flying the flying dutchman it's the one where he moves in with spongebob and he scares him like every day he does different. Things like and he freaks him the fuck out for like. The first week and then after about a week he's like and he's just like yawn and he's like he's like you know it's like We've already seen all this shit before. You got to come up with something new because you're not scaring us anymore. Yeah.
It just, yeah, it all, it was all nice. And maybe if somebody hasn't seen these things before, maybe it's scary. But to us, it was like, it's like, oh, there she goes. She's on the ceiling. Yep.
We know what's going to happen now. Oh, the body bag? Yeah, that's pretty cool. It's not too bad, but yeah. I've seen it before.
I mean, even picking it up and dragging it down the hall. That was almost shot for shot. I was like, that's too much. The original? Freaked the fuck out of me.
It did. That part still. This one, it's like... We already know what's going to happen. I think somebody behind me was like at the point where she flies up the ceiling and she gets stabbed.
She falls down. The guy's like, oh, my God, oh, my God. The guy behind me is like, they're going to blame him for it. Nice. One thing I really wish that this movie would have put in it, like, I mean, there's a point where they all realize they're having the same dream.
But in the original– For me, that was like the eeriest part when they all got together and realized they were having the same dream. Just that feeling. Yeah. That, I mean, I know I have when I watched the movie. It would be creepy.
Yeah. Just thinking about how creepy that would be. That wasn't really, they all realized they were having the same dream, but they're like, oh, we're having the same dream. They're just like, wow, that's weird. Or the other guy's like, no, be quiet.
I don't want to hear it. Yeah. What's funny is the change in, again, that it's such a short amount of time, but things have changed so much. Because I remember watching that the first time, and it was such a big deal that she was drinking coffee. Oh, yeah.
This high school girl drinking coffee all the time. And I'm like, shit, now there's not a 10-year-old out there that's not throwing down espressos night and day. Yeah, my kid. Can I have an espresso? No.
Can I have a chai latte? No. Can I drink some beer? No. No.
It is. Yeah, little kids. Coffee is such a marketable thing now that everybody drinks that stuff all the time. I remember as a kid being like, that's an adult beverage. It's coffee and beer.
You don't drink those until you get old. So it's funny just in that little span of time it's like things have changed quite a bit i don't. Think i drank coffee till i turned like 20 or something. Just because it's a long time for me too and she was like it was such a big deal this high schooler drinking coffee she had a coffee pot she was sneaking it in her room just you know so her mom wouldn't know she was drinking all that coffee and i was like wow kids do that all day long i. Remember begging my mom when i was younger to uh let me drink coffee.
Like my cousin, this is before coffee shops existed on every street corner, but she took us to a coffee shop downtown. And, uh, we got this like half ass, like mostly milk, I'm sure coffee beverage. And after that I was like obsessed with cappuccino. And my mom was like pissed off at my cousin. Like she'd taken us to a strip club or something.
How dare you? Now she's addicted to coffee. It's going to stud her growth. She's going to be short. Um, And you're taller than most of us here.
I am taller than most of us. Coffee's good for you. I think I am taller than everybody here. Oh, wow. The only other thing I did remember, you mentioned this earlier, something that was good that they sort of, and this is what I'm saying, they took the idea and just went an entirely different way with it.
Because the part in the old one where she's running up the stairs... and she can't get up the stairs and her feet are sinking in. That's a very dreamlike state. That is one of those everybody's had that I'm trying to run away, I'm trying to run away and I can't. No matter what I do, I can't get away. Yeah.
Found a good way to sort of make that happen. This one does it and kind of takes it. Up a notch. And that falling down into the hallway thing was a cool shot. That was awesome.
That's the only thing they did that was sort of a touch of the old one that they sort of went in a new direction with it and did almost a... Well, not a better job, but... they did their own thing with it, you know? It's like they really did sort of make that their own, whereas I wish they would have done more of that with all these other things that they kept trying to do. But other than that, yeah, I think a lot of the other stuff just falls in that same category. So it's likable, it's fun, it's watchable, but, you know, it's certainly not reinventing the whole series, I guess.
I don't know. As much as they probably wanted it to. I think the most fun could be had seeing this at the dollar movies. On a Friday night no you go on 50 cent night 50. Cent night at the dollar movies oh hell no is the best time to go see this oh yes oh hell yes oh.
Hell yes or even more watch it with your mom Oh. Yeah, watching it with my mom. Watching it with my mom is almost as bad as going to the dollar theater. What's he doing? What's he doing?
No, don't go in there. Don't go in there. She's going to get stabbed. She's going to get stabbed. Oh, see, I told you.
I told you she's stabbed. She's dead now. I'll tell your mother to shut up. My mom's like, what's. Going on next?
What's going on next, mom? Just watch the movie. Just watch the movie, mom. I can't stand that. Are you offering to lease out your mother to our listeners?
If you want the full experience, give us enough money. I'll ship my mom out to you. If you want a small Asian lady screaming in the background. Well, who doesn't? She's going to die!
I mean, is your mom available for rent? Because I keep trying to rent your mom all the time. For egg rolls? Yeah, egg rolls. Yeah, otherwise that sounds kind of dirty, but for egg roll purposes.
It easily happens around my birthday. She makes the best egg rolls in the world, ever. Trying to buy your mom for a night, James. Aren't we all? A hot night.
A hot night behind the oven. On the stove. Getting out the deep fryer. Do you have... I'll ask you later.
This is coming to the cooking show. Welcome to Cooking with Movie Mountain. I make popcorn. Ask if you had a sticky rice maker because I have a giant pack of sticky rice that you guys could have. Now it's back to being dirty again.
Sticky rice. We're going to get one eventually. All right. Back to the show. By the way, there was no podcasting in this.
I was lied to in the early advanced. The closest thing we got, the one kid was a video blogger. That's an entirely different thing. Early on they said, and they almost made it sound like the Johnny Depp kid, like Beaver was going to be a podcaster or something, but we didn't get any of that. Lies.
I'm kind of glad though. Yeah, I was too actually. I was glad to see it, but. They did sort of make use of the new technology, and we got to watch on his video blog as this kid just deteriorated. Again, that was something they added.
That was cool. That was a new addition to the storyline that they couldn't have done in. The old one. And that was one thing that was pissing me off. You can't Google shit that fast and find results like the first thing.
You can't do that. Yeah, yeah, because I try to look up people all the time, and it takes me a good three, four hours. And then usually me doing it for you. But still, you can't just Google in somebody's first and last name in the... First reply right there?
Especially if it's a normal name like Sarah Turner. Let's Google Sarah Turner. That's going to be the first thing that pops up is exactly what you're looking for. No, that don't happen. Well, I was being more tech geek because knowing how I kill time uploading this every week, when he gets...
Spoiler alert. You almost see him get offed in that last one. I'm like, wait, who uploaded that? Did Freddy upload that after he killed him? Because if he killed him while he was still recording, it wouldn't have ended up on the internet.
Somebody's got to upload it after the fact. See maybe he was see they make you think nobody thinks about. That I was a geek it was he was filming it while he was and he got. Maybe there's some sort of special intern webs version that automatically does it while you're recording seriously. Doubt it I don't know first take i mean.
Yeah no that's what i'm saying i'm like most of these you put it together yourself you save it as a file you upload it i don't know that i just was being a tech geek there and going wait a minute. Well see that's the thing freddie came in and he uploaded. It and he seems kind of like a geek i mean. He updated his website. He probably did that's the least he could do yeah i can't have this guy just die off and not have.
Any evidence of him dying. Yeah Got to put this out there for Nancy to buy. Got to finish it. All right. I guess we can wrap up with our tech geek problems with the movie.
So which of these songs would you like to go out on here? Kind of think what our options are. We've got Dance or Else, Wooly Bully, Down in the Boiler Room, or In the Midnight Hour. I like Down in the Boiler Room. Yeah, I second that one.
Are we up for that one? I'm good. Sounds good to me. We will go out with Down in the Boiler Room, which, by the way, as I went back and re-listened to some of these, there's barely any Robert Englund in them. It's like studio musicians, and it's mostly girls, and they're singing like in unison, and there's like one girl taking lead, and then every once in a while, Freddie goes, ha, ha, ha, ha.
Oh, God. You don't even do the Freddie? Yeah, I mean, he's in, he's got his little lines here and there. Does it rap? Because that'd be so sweet.
Not as much as I was hoping, really. It'd probably be awesome if he, yeah, did it. Unfortunately, we're going with Down in the Boiler Room. I really wish they still made albums like this, you know? Classy albums like freddie's greatest hits well no.
I just mean like you know there's no i mean if a new movie comes out the bad guy doesn't have this ridiculous joke. Album you know i don't know greatest hits this is no joke there's. No joke they are serious about that shit woolly woolly for fuck's sakes. I like that all i have to do is dream song i like that they closed with that i thought that was a good choice. Yeah, I thought that was interesting.
And kind of them being jokey about it all. Yeah. So, but, yeah, we'll go out with Down in the Boiler Room since there's no need for a boiler room in this movie. No, no. Nope, nope, nope.
All right, we will take a break and be back with the rest of the show. Down in the boiler. Room You know it's scary You know it's dark You ought to know Be. Afraid to go Listen to your heart. Afraid to stop And afraid to go.

Watch it now. Watch it, watch it. Here it comes, here it comes. Yeah, that's right. You got it.
Watch it now. And it's all ready. About a thing she saw. With two big horns. And a world.
It's all about. And it's all ready. All right we're back and we've got feedback. Yes first up we heard from randy who has been working on this for a while so he actually got the the specifics together for his ketchup his uh i think that's how he referred to it he's playing ketchup on. The last several episodes.
Randy it is the unshakable randy. Hey y'all it's randy here i figured i'd call in and catch up on all the feedback that I haven't done because I suck first of all it was great seeing you guys at Horror Hound. I wish some of the rest of the gang could have made it there. You were definitely missed. Marlene, it was nice meeting you.
Misty, it was great meeting you. I'm less afraid of you than I was before. And Brian, great as always. starting with Triangle. I'm also more of a time crimes guy. Listening to you, you uncovered a lot of stuff that made me think about the movie and appreciate it more.
My two rewrites that would have been done on Triangle, one or the other, would be either to rip off the crow, where if you die within 100 miles of the water, a seagull has to carry your soul away once you ran over him. In the opening accident, the rest of the seagulls were like, fuck it, get her! And it was all seagull-based mayhem. Maybe, hey. It could happen.
The second thing is, and this is a little more realistic, I get really aggravated when they take a movie and they put all these tertiary characters in and then they're just there suffering for no reason. The one scene that would have made this movie absolutely rock would have been if at the accident scene when she was getting out, if the people that were either gawking or assisting or whatever were all there in the crowd. Not laid out blatantly, but if that was there and then she was somehow projecting them into her private hell, that would be great. Otherwise, what the fuck, universe? You know, I'm going out on a boat because this bitch has problems.
I have to die endlessly until I'm stacked like cordwood. You know, fuck that. Good movie, though. And great dissection. Well done.
I have the burbs on my to-watch pile because I'm an asshole and I've never watched it. I just, I don't know. Tom Hanks' cutesiness. I'm an asshole. I avoid that kind of stuff, but I'll give it a try.
Brian, hats off to you for getting the crew to sit through Night of the Lepus. It's got bunnies! How can you not like that? I love that kind of cheesy awfulness, and it was great hearing about it. The Sasquatch movies, I love hearing you guys discuss them.
I'm never going to sit through them, because I live in the suburbs. I'm Sasquatch-free. I'd like a Sasquatch, but I'm more likely to get a Triffid, and that would suck a dick. I always thought Lust in the Dust was John Waters. Who knew?
Black Waters of Echo's Pond, that was perhaps a masterstroke by you guys. I really enjoyed the parking lot dissection. It was like a CSI where you were standing around the chalk outline of that goddamn film. You actually made me want to see it. I don't know how you did that, but I'm interested.
Well done. Now I'm behind and I haven't heard the Hit Girl, I mean Kick-Ass episode, but But I wanted to give you a couple of thoughts, so forgive me if I'm retreading familiar ground. I read the comic, and I really enjoyed the comic, and I like Matthew Vaughn's stuff. I think Layer Cake was really an underrated film. That being said, the movie really felt homogenized.
It went through the system, and they took it and screamed it in front of a bunch of mouth-breathing tourists from God knows where, and they didn't get it. I'm sure it never got that far. I'm sure the stuff that was in the comic didn't make productions. But it really would have been awesome. It was a lot darker, a lot more violent.
I'm thankful for what I got. What I got was a good movie, but it could have been a lot stronger. You know, movie made by committee. What can you do? Other than that, thanks very much.
That's all I got. Out here. Take care. Awesome. Yeah, take care.
I no longer strike fear in the heart of Randy. Well, probably a little bit. Just not as much. You make me sound so mean. I'm not really that mean.
I don't know. Do you go on with that, Jay? Choose your words carefully, sir. She's not bad. What?
She's not bad. You just don't want to get on her bad side. That's true. But, you know, a good 90% of the earth is on your bad side. You just got to get on the right side.
Yeah. I do like the seagull idea, though. I like working more seagulls, attacking people into that movie. Yeah. And the accident, that's actually kind of cool if they would have worked those people in standing around in two part of a loop as it went on.
That's kind of a cool idea, too. So I agree with that one. And just to let you know, I am wearing my Black Waters of Echo Pond Echoes, whatever the hell that movie is, shirt right now that I got from the producer of the movie. Which I just remembered, oh, you told me that I had one. I have no idea what happened to it.
You got one, too. You watched the cheesy trailer. You said you have, too. Are you sure you didn't steal one? No, we ended up with several after that.
When did this happen? I don't even remember. It was at a convention years ago. Oh, okay. He's been pushing this movie for at least two years or more.
And, yeah, so we watched the trailer a long time ago. I've been looking like a douchebag the whole time he's done. Well, yeah. Did I watch this movie? No.
No. I was going to say, isn't that the director that we saw at the last convention? Mm-hmm. With all the kick-ass tattoos. Yeah.
Mm-hmm. This douchebag hair. That's him. Mm-hmm. So, yeah, I...
You know, I guess we're trading off. I'm still promoting it. Maybe that's the trade-off after the dissection. Really, I just thought it was funny when I put it on this morning. It was just as a joke, mostly.
Because it's funny you're wearing it now. That's what I think when I put my outfits on every day. It's just a joke. This is just funny as hell. Nobody else gets it, but I think this is funny.
I do think that a lot, actually. That's part of why I wore my Boondock Saints shirt, so I could bitch about how bad the second one was. I have a striped French boat shirt on. You're no Bill Moseley, I'll tell you that right now. He does wear girls' clothes better than most men.
Yeah, better than me. Oh, Lord. But yes, thank you, Randy. Yay, Randy. As always, awesome to hear from you.
He doesn't call in near enough. Does he not love us anymore? He saves up. You just need to give him your cell phone number, Misty, to follow you sometimes. I did talk to him.
You guys are, like, bored and chit-chat about what's going on. All right, do we have any more feedback? Yes, we do. Awesome. Next up, we actually get quite a real-world response about our juvenile cartoon discussion.
Oh, nice. Which is odd, because, you know, we don't usually know how to operate around adults. I'm telling you, it's a conversation that spurs... Good conversation. I mean, everyone's got an opinion.
Yes, they do. I'm a wizard with my words. You're a word master. Be jealous. Well, everybody does have an opinion, including Fozzie Bear.
So this week we hear from Fozzie Bear. Hey, guys. This is Fozzie. I just wanted to call because you were talking recently about the vanishing Saturday morning cartoons. And I actually have a theory about this, and I've done a little research, and I think I'm right, but I think I'm right about everything.
So what I think happened, you'll notice that the cartoons actually started to fade around. I think maybe the early 90s, late 80s, they started to disappear. Well, this is when the No Child Left Behind Act went into place to increase the education of America's youth. and part of that bill was to increase educational programming on television, and every television station was required to show a certain amount of educational programming throughout the week for children. And they had to fill so many hours, and most television stations would only give up Saturday mornings because those were lower ratings for them. They weren't really going to lose any money, but to follow along with governmental guidelines, they had to put educational programs on there.
So that's why now we just have, like, Bill Nye– and other scientists doing experiments and having creepy old men have little boys come to their apartment to do experiments all the time. So that's where we have all these shows, and that's where cartoons have gone. So it's really sad, but I blame the Clintons for it more than anything in the world. And that's my thoughts on that. Okay, you're doing a great job.
Hope to talk to you soon. Bye. I think he's correct. No, yeah, definitely. Yep.
I really love Bill Nye and Beacon's World. I fucking love the show. Remember Mr. Wizard way back in the day? Mr.
Wizard was the man. He was awesome. I never watched any of those shows. I watched Bob Ross as a child, which I am happy to report that he is still on television. Yes, he is.
And he's on 1030 every morning on KET, and I will tell everybody to watch Bob Ross. Yeah, Bill Nye and, you know, all those.... In thinking that, I'm trying to decide maybe Freddy Krueger was just trying to be a scientist. Hey kids, would you like to come down to the cave and do some experiments? Maybe that's all he was up to.
He was just trying to, you know. He's like weird and gross. Let me show you my beakers. Bill Nye was awesome because he's hot. I don't know about that.
If you knew Marlena, you would realize that's a normal statement. Yeah, that is a very Marlena statement. Beakman's World, awesome because there was a man and a rat costume. And the chick was hot. Well, they changed several times.
There was at least three of those. I like the first generation. The one was actually in a lot of other movies and stuff. What's really sad, and if we still did the dead people, I probably would have brought this up that week. This has been probably several months ago now, but the guy in the rat suit's dead now.
Wow, what happened? Isn't that sad? That's so sad. I'm going to cry. Rat-related death?
You know, actually, I have a sick rat right now. She has rhinitis. She's dead. She had a stroke. What the hell is Rhinox?
It's when her head is tilted to the side and she can't move it any other way. I'm not laughing because of that. It's the saddest thing. I'm laughing because I call him Sugar Booger all the time. And there's another rat named Dr.
Poopinstein. I never call him that. I didn't name them. Rhinox sounds like something you spray in your truck bed to protect it from bricks. Rhino lining.
That's okay. It's got Rhinox. It's really sad, but she's almost at the end of her lifespan anyway, which is two years. So. Wow our salamander's getting sluggish.
Yeah he's not eating the fish like he used to. I think he just became friends with them yeah he. Got tired of eating his buddies that's sad he realized. That we're gonna buy it yeah i wasn't gonna buy him another salamander play with so All right. Mark Ritz was the lab rat on Beakman's World, and it was kidney cancer.
Died at 63. It's pretty sad. He was that old? Yeah, I mean, those shows were all from the 90s. I mean, even as old as he was, they'd been repeating for years.
Yeah, I know, but I mean, the 90s, it's... That was, like, 20 years ago. 20 years ago. So, I mean, if he was 40. Yeah, don't remind me.
20 years ago. I mean, because he looked pretty old in there. So, I mean, if he was in his 40s at that point, you know. God, I just can't even believe the 90s were 20 years ago. Yeah.
Sad, isn't it? You don't like that. Not every part of the 90s. No, all of them. All of them.
All of them. Oh, fuck. 1999 wasn't 20. Once you're done with the decade, they get crammed into one little package, and they all get sorted into one year in a box in that mom's attic. Kind of a drunken blur for me.
And it just becomes a Mo Rocha talking about it on I Love the 90s. That's right. We can't relive this stuff if it's not for VH1. Yeah. They are in charge of our memories, and we trust them.
Houseparts. Oh, God. I like Michael Ian Black for me. Yeah, I know. What happened to him?
He doesn't do anything anymore. They sit around and wait for VH1 to make specials. Actually, Mo Rocha and Bill Nye are both celebrity judges, or whatchamacallit, on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, which is still on every morning. Really? It is?
Yeah. That's sad. They're the... celebrity lifeline or whatever. What? That is sad.
They have nothing else to do but sit by the phone waiting for people to call and go, what is the capital Ecuador? I don't know. I used to know that. Well, shit, Beedleman or Bill Nye would be great lifelines. I mean, shit, we're all these people like that.
That's really smart. I'm not calling Michael. And the other day, What's-Her-Face Blossom was on there. Who the hell's Blossom? Malcolm Belcher.
What the fuck's her name? The hideous chick from that TV show? Yeah, I'm not calling her either. Rhinoplasty? Yeah, really.
That's like a damn dirty hippie. Yeah. Regardless, thank you, Fozzie Bear. No, Fozzie Bear, thank you. That was awesome.
Yeah, that was way more thought out than I expected out of any of our listeners. So thank you for coming through. Hey, Fozzie's a sophisticated gentleman. I did like Fozzie, but I'm going to have to say Gonzo was my favorite. He did like chicken.
Yeah. I did like Gonzo. Actually, no, no, no, not Gonzo. I take it back. Rolf.
Ralph. Ralph was good. Dr. Teeth was awesome. Dr.
Teeth was awesome. He was great. Benson and Beaker. All right. Otherwise, that is pretty much it for the feedback, so keep it coming, guys.
There was somebody answered my question. Was it Neiman? That was Greg, actually. Okay. So if you wanted to, uh, Cindy, thank you out to Greg for answering our question.
My, my key up question, which is why key up in battle of the planets kept going, you know, Oh. God, it drove me nuts. And it wasn't just me. There are other people that I knew that grew up at G-Force that were like, I wanted to strangle. Yeah, I was right there with you on that.
Greg, thank you for answering my question. The, uh, basically he pointed out that was in the Japanese version. They had to bleep out a lot of, cursing, which I really want to go back and watch the original now. Is it Gatchaman? Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.
I always thought that's what it was, but I don't know. I haven't watched that one either. Is all the cursing in Gatchaman? Yes, it is. It's the unedited version, I'm pretty sure.
Now I've got to go back and watch that so it'll be even more enjoyable. I remember. I actually went back on YouTube and watched some of the older versions of just G-Force and just. Realized the dialogue was so horrible. I could barely watch it.
My reaction is, is that Casey Kasem? Yeah, it was Casey Kasem playing Mark. I forget about that. It was just one of. Those, look, here they come.
They have guns. It's like, why is Shaggy talking? Run the other way. Let's make a snack scoop. Oh, wait, wrong cartoon.
I'm on every cartoon on right now. It's so weird how you think these cartoons are awesome when you're growing up and you go back and rewatch them as an adult, like a speed racer. Most people that go back and watch that, that loved it as a kid, they're like, God damn. Damn, this show is stupid. A lot of those were pretty bad.
Yeah. Especially Hanna-Barbera. As much as I liked Hanna-Barbera, they were hacks, and they didn't hide it. Oh, hell yeah. Thundar the Barbarian.
I just bought me some She-Ra, so I'm going to be watching that. I also got an AJ Wright that had She-Ra. The best of She-Ra with the movie in five episodes. Oh, that's good. Yeah, it's not so good.
That's a deal. Have you seen the movie? It's been a while. Oh, man. I just heard a wrap-up of the movie in the last few months.
And wow, it is. Was it a live action? No. It was like five episodes strung together, basically. That's all it was.
I'm excited. Good luck. I want to hear the recap on that one from you, too, because I'm not sure how it's going to go over. All right. But, yep, thank you to everyone who sent us feedback this week.
So keep it coming. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks.

That's sad because, dude, that's your career. You were supposed to be a pretty boy. Yeah, she was like, put your shirt back on. You get fat. It's over, dude.
Him and the other guy. I mean, Sean Patrick Flannery, his face is just swelled up. And I said, he looks like, at some point I'm like, is that Alan Rickman? Because he's starting to look like Alan Rickman. You weren't the only one who thought that either.
I looked it up. Everybody's like, what's Alan Rickman doing? If you Google what happened to Sean Patrick Flannery's face, you'll find a lot of shit. Okay, kids, get out your decoder pins. No, no, no, no, no, no.
Set your pins to B2. Here is the message. It is time. Well, the movie meltdown secret. I don't know.
We don't even know for sure what we're watching. Wowzers. We're actually, well, we're still going where we said we were going, but not necessarily next week. Next week, some of us won't be here, so we're probably going to rework things a little bit. So we'll have to see.
Basically, I'm going to see what I decide to put together between now and next week. You're going to find some shit that I don't want to watch. No, not necessarily. There's another idea I've been toying with. So if I can make that happen, it's going to be awesome.
If not, we're going to pick something that probably Misty doesn't want to watch. Nazis. Whatever. Misty loves Nazis. I like movies about Nazis sometimes.
Depends on the movie, really. Not even zombie Nazis can bring me in sometimes. I really like Dead Snow. I have nightmares about that shit fox scene though. Shit fox scene?
I need to see this. I think you do. I like the movie. You can watch it now on Netflix. If you have it.
I know. You can't. But the following week we will end up where we said we were going the last time anyway. So we are going to watch April Fool's Day. Yay!
Get excited. I'm excited. I've actually already been contacted by several people. Oh, really? Well, I'm pretty sure Nick at Eskimo and Barbarella were both on board for the, for God's sakes, don't watch the remake.
Which just fueled my fire to go and make sure I at least watch it. And I told them, I was like, don't worry, I'm not inflicting it upon everyone else, but yeah, they said it's really bad. Are we done? Almost. All right, that's where I'm going to ask for Roger to leave.
All right, on that note, I think we will wrap it up. So, yeah, I guess we should go out with, what did we say? Do the Freddy. How are we going out? Do the Freddy?
Do the Freddy is pretty classically horrible. He's doing it on the back of the album. Yeah, we're going to, I think, inflict the Do the Freddy upon you. So this is from Freddy's Greatest Hits. And wait, what is the band called?
Turn on the front. What is it? The Elm Street Group. Ah, yes. Freddie and the Elm Street Group doing Do the Freddie.
So enjoy. And we're sorry. And do the Freddie. Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next week.
Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening. Thanks, guys. Rock on. Sweet.
Bye-bye. I'm Freddie, and this is for you. Hear the happy feet dancing to the beat of the thread. Throw that guy. In front, make a line in back, then you're ready.
Pick your feet up, swing your arms up to move your head both ways like you see him do. Then jump, repeat to the sweet. Beat of the Freddy. To the Freddy. Hear the.
Pretty feet running from the beat of the Freddy. Ha ha ha ha! I'm ready, and this is for you. Pick your feet up. Swing your arms up too.
If you have always liked to. See him do it, then just repeat to the swinging beat of the wedding hall. Do the threading, do. The threading Keep awake, don't sleep, cause you. Gotta keep watch for threading In.
The boy love room. He'll be coming soon Do the threading Do the threading Do the. Threading I can't tell what's real anymore. Is there anybody else out there that this is happening to?
