The following feature has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised. Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power. What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I am Brian.
This is Roger. I'm Joni. Marlena. All right. Joni.
I got so excited. She's also raising her hand emphatically right now. Call on me, call on me. Pick me. I wonder why she ran to the head of the clock.
She's got to get the front desk. So, yes, Misty and Jay are on vacation this week. Do they actually go anywhere? Are they, like, on that vacation where they're just at home? Staycation?
Staycation. My whole life's a staycation. Vacation on the couch. No, last I heard, they were heading to Florida, so they're basking in the oily goodness that is the Florida Gulf Beach. God, yeah.
Fresh. They picked a great time to do that. Is it still pumping oil billions of gallons every day into the ocean? I think so. We still cannot, in all of our infinite wisdom as human beings on this planet, cannot figure it out?
Like, stop it. Oh, my God. Has nobody thought of a giant cork? I mean, come on. Really?
It's that basic. Didn't they think of it? I was at work, and Darren at work showed me on his iPhone. It was like a parody, you know? Yeah.
It was like... whatever the, the corporate office or whatever at BP and the guys are like, okay, what are we going to do about this bill or whatever? And one person spills some coffee and they're like, Oh my God, wait, okay, what are we going to do? You know? And it just hasn't been doing the most asinine thing to clean up this coffee. And they're like, throw garbage on it and stuff.
And it was hilarious. And it's like, so true. Like, Oh God, it was funny and sad at the same time. A little too realistic, but it was good. I was like, ha ha ha.
Nice. It's funny because it's true. It's funny because it's true, and my tears are mixing with. Oil. Oil.
That will soon drown us all. Yeah, really. So, well, hopefully they have a good time and are safe in Florida. But, you know, they're missing out. Yeah.
Because that's the specific time, and some of it by design. I decided to do our new series here, our epic trilogy, if you will. Yes. We're kicking off Greedo Bloody Greedo. Yeah, it's okay.
Nobody cares. That only meant something to you. Yeah, is that the guy who has done these movies? Yeah, I addressed this last week because I specifically got Graham to rant about Greedo last week to kick it off. But yeah, this week we're starting one of three, and I found a fourth one I might throw in there that I'll watch, but there's three epic ones I decided we would watch that are all starring Maria de Aragon. who is the actress that played Greedo.
So first of all, I was amazed years later when I was like, dude, Greedo's a chick? Yeah, really. And then I found out she's in all these very special movies from back in the day. Does she sound the same? She doesn't talk like that, unless does Greedo have a Canadian accent?
I don't know. She was actually born here, but she lived a good portion of her life in Canada. Okay. But, yeah. Not her fault.
Yeah. She's forgiven. She's got dual citizenship. Yeah. She rocks both sides of this.
She just goes over the border when she needs, like, medical assistance or something. Or maple syrup. Or really good weed. Ooh, maple syrup. Or really good weed.
Yeah. Wow. So, yes. I thought that was a good way to find some of these choice movies of hers. And we're going to talk to her later in this episode.
So, yes. Maria. She's actually really nice. Okay. Yeah.
An interesting woman and quite a career, I have to say. With that being said, we'll kick off our normal activities of the geek variety, I suppose. Geek Week. Geek Week it is. Let's see.
Geek Week. We didn't really do anything. Waterworld. Besides Waterworld today. Waterworld falling asleep to Waterworld last night.
Dorks. Waking up in early morning hours with Waterworld still on. Not like it's looping, but it's still just playing. And I'll say that I like Waterworld. I have a good time with it because Dennis Hopper's freaking amazing.
What was it what he say he's like? He's not going to come and save you. Or if he does, he can save whatever's left of you in a goddamn jar. You know what I mean? It's like, what?
God, he's so awesome in that movie. He's like the best thing about that movie. Yeah, that's easily. And I remember way back in the day when Waterworld was, I don't know the statistics, but it was like the most expensive movie ever freaking made. It really was at that time.
And then you start to realize, like, if you stop and think about it, because that's the thing, when I look at it now, I mean, yeah, it's kind of a train wreck in its own right, but... I'm still amazed at it because. The set, yeah. They built all that. I mean, yeah, because you think about it.
I mean, there is no land in this movie. So, I mean, every set that they build, every shot that they shoot, they have to go miles out to sea so that you can't see land just to shoot whatever lame coverage they have to do that day. I mean, think how much money. There's a reason that thing costs so damn much money. But I think it looks good, and it's a good time.
It's one of those guilty pleasures, you know? It's like... Because you'll say Waterworld, and instantly people are like, oh, Jesus, Waterworld. But secretly, a lot of them are like, yeah, that was actually. Remember that part?
Maybe we'll watch it. Yeah, remember that part? The part where the Jets see Scooch out of there. That part's awesome. They're all underwater and shit, and they fucking cut their toe lines, and they come popping up, and they're like...
Dude, he's got gills. I feel like I need to watch this movie because I have no idea what you're doing. Really? Oh, yeah. It's a good time.
I'll watch it for the show. I don't care. Yeah, shit, let's do it. I have no pride. What do I care?
The little girl, or the girl from Napoleon Dynamite. Yeah, it was the little, little girl. She was also in that movie about the seal. Andre. Yeah, it was the first thing I said.
I was like, she's in Andre. Okay, it's about a seal. I thought it was like, you know, like a partially mentally challenged child in high school. One of those movies. Andre, a heartwarming tale about diversity.
That was Angus. Oh, yeah, that's it. Which actually is a pretty good movie. I love that movie. That movie made me cry.
Yep. When his grandpa died. Oh, you ruined it for me. I'm sorry. Spoilers, man.
Well, that was my first boyfriend's favorite movie, and he used to make me watch it all the time. And he would cry at the end. Every single time. The grandpa died. No matter how much he watched it.
He's like, shh, baby, shh, here it comes. Some movies do that. His whole family had a weird problem with watching and re-watching movies over and over. Every morning before his dad went to work, he'd watch The 13th Warrior. That's a good movie, though.
But every morning? I'm pretty sure every morning is too much. I did that when I was five with Beauty and the Beast. Kids do that, but adults shouldn't do that. And one summer, he and his sister, two to three times a day, would watch Don't Tell Mom, The Babysitter's Tale.
Okay, that is an awesome movie. Over and over. It is an awesome movie. We're going to watch that one, too. Yes.
That reminds me of Adventures in Babysitting. Another awesome. Babysitting movies are awesome. Babysitter's Club. Was there a Babysitter's Club movie?
Oh, yeah. From Superman. Oops, sorry. I'm not supposed to know that. Oh, yeah.
Wait. That chick who liked the horses was hot. What about the Hardy Boys? Was there a Hardy Boys book? It was the whole TV series, but I don't think they made a full... movie they might have done you know a tv movie with a two-parter episode or something.
It's on the lifetime channel it's called the life and time. So you're making shit up yeah so that's pretty much i think all we. Did really do you want to tell your other fun. Stories oh and and then besides doing other things at work some people like to. Slice their fingers off um i was at work on friday night and uh we get this brand new sharpest shit cheese knife it's huge Yeah, it's like this big, it's serrated, it's got a hook on the end.
That's like a foot long for you at home. Yeah, you can't see the hand. It's this big. I'm used to the home game. So I cut myself, like I was just cutting it and just going down.
Where you're cutting like a cheese wheel, like hard as hell. Like in front of someone, like in front of a customer? No, no, thank God. Would you like a little thumb with you? I'll be right back.
But the cheese slipped and the knife went straight out of my hand. But thank God, you know, my hand caught it. It didn't hit the cutting board. It didn't hurt the knife. Thank God.
You know, it's always good. And the hazmat team rushed in. It's like in Monsters, Inc. When they come back with the sock on. That's right.
Yeah. Explosions. It's bad. They had to. Make her go to the hospital.
Yeah, they made me go to the hospital. I didn't want to go. I was just going to wrap it up. Yeah. And you had your glove on, your little rubber glove.
Like, it's okay. I can still work. I'm fine. Apparently, as she's shaking, I'm like. Yeah, I was trying to clean up after myself because.
There's blood everywhere, right? Blood everywhere. I get that all the time. I'm holding my hand out, but I'm like. cleaning, bleaching everything as I go. So that's an adventure.
I spent five hours in the hospital for a four minute stitch yep yeah. You watch harold kumar well you did watch harold kumar right in the waiting. Room No, no, no. They got me in the, like, room within, like, 30 minutes, which was good, but it took another. Four and a half hours.
Of course. Until I, you know, the doctor came in for five seconds. He's like, okay. So what? Get the fuck out.
Weird thing was, he found out he was from Danville, which is where I'm from, which was kind of cool. Yeah. He's been following you around all this time. Yeah. So wait for this.
She'll slice her finger off. There's a song called Danville Girl. Really? About It's a bluegrass song, like a really old traditional bluegrass song. Word.
I like that. You have your own theme song now. Yes, definitely. So we jumped ahead. Do you want to do yours?
Oh, no one is on board with this. I don't understand it, but I've been... You know, I got Problem Child from a friend. I've been fighting it. You've been telling me about this.
It has been so long. Everyone's like, oh, God. And I'm like, dude, that movie is awesome. It is awesome. I watched it.
I was thinking maybe my opinion would change now that I'm not like nine years old. But no, that movie rules. I just have a bias against it. I always have. I think that kid is just so unattractive I can't look at him for too long.
I think as far as ginger kids go, he's not that bad. And he's funny. But you like ginger kids. I don't know. I'm a fan of ginger kids and he's kind of scary.
I'm confused. What is a ginger kid? Ginger is when you have red hair and really pale skin. Gotcha. I'm on board.
I don't know. I'm on the fence about ginger kids usually. You know, it's like, I like. I find them untrustworthy. Oh, yeah.
Yeah. All the girls with, like, naturally red hair and freckles are crazy. Like, literally. And everyone I've talked to agrees. They're just, like...
Touched. Something's not quite right. Something happens when you get that way. It also affects your brain. There are different chemicals at work.
They actually did a study that the amount of actual red-headed people. Is going down. They're becoming extinct. Yeah, they're becoming extinct. We're breeding them out of the cycle?
Like the dark-haired genes are overpowering the red-haired genes? I think it's because it's like a genetic... fluke almost that's weird not to say that anybody with red hair and freckles is a fluke or anything. God loves you just as much as whatever but we hate you well the retarded we can't say the retard thing is is like there's apparently ginger kids or whatever they're up in arms there's a group of them they're up in. Arms about the Wendy's girl. And I'm like, really?
This is a big problem that you're protesting? Like, oh, it's like she's a freaking unreal mascot and you've got a problem? Like, find something to get behind for real, you losers. You're going to complain about Wendy but you're going to let Carrot Top run. Around the world?
I mean, Jesus. You're going to start with Carrot Top. I wouldn't want to go again. No, I bet he's void rages too. Sniper rifle.
That's all you need, man. Don't waste your time fighting him. That's what he's pulling out of his trunk yeah that's weapons you know i. Feel like people like carrot top and danny bon a douchebag just ruin it for all their gingers in the world like it's all their fault i mean maybe if they weren't so bad then people would realize like oh you know having red hair and freckles is. So bad they're bringing down the curve but.
You know see it's like this catch-22 like on the inside i'm kind of attracted to people with like ginger features sort of like i like guys with red hair but i don't like freckles. Let's put it in perspective you're all about some conan o'brien. Yeah, but from far away because I don't have to see his freckles. That's true. Well, like on the show because he's got like huge pancake makeup on.
That's true. That is true. So there you go. I would like Conan O'Brien's freckles. All of them.
Nice. All right. But I mean, you know, like I like guys that have like strawberry blonde hair and like red beard and stuff like that, but just not like. freckles i don't i don't know i can't help it it's a weird thing it's just a personal preference. But did the problem child did he ever do anything with his life after making one and two isn't there a two yeah there's actually both of them it's like why did they freaking kill him at the end of the. First one yeah he was a sequel that's why.
No it was such an awesome movie i mean Michael Richards is in it, and he's the bow tie killer. And Junior, which is the kid, he's, like, obsessed with him, and he wants to be just like him, so he wears a bow tie. He, like, blows stuff up and causes all these problems, and he's just, like, a dick. Yeah. I just remember him screaming a lot.
No, he didn't scream so much as everybody else that he would, like, torture. Like, he'd torture little girls, and they'd scream. He's the tormentor. Oh, my God. Yeah.
There's this part in the movie where he— this is my favorite part, maybe, of any movie ever— But he's at this stupid little bitch's birthday party. Fuck her. And she won't let him see the magic show. She's like, you can't see the magic show because you're retarded or something like that. And he was like, oh, yeah, well, fuck you.
But he didn't say that. He emptied out. Her pinata and filled it with pickles and then put a frog in the punch bowl and then threw all of her presents in the swimming pool. But the whole time she's dressed like a little flower and she's just throwing this tantrum and they just play Leslie Gore's It's My Party and focus on her throwing the tantrum. It's amazing.
It's an amazing cinematic masterpiece right there. But yeah, it was just a good movie. I mean, I don't know why people don't like it. Everyone is afraid of that movie. Everyone's reaction...
Which is, I wouldn't be surprised if that kid, like, killed himself, because people were like, maybe I'd watch that movie, but that kid is just so ugly and creepy. That's what I'm wondering, like, what, did he do anything else with his life after that movie? No, he didn't. I looked it up on, uh. Did he get into drugs?
I am BB. Probably. From you? Probably. Yeah.
Yeah, but, uh. Amy Yazbeck and John Ritter were in that movie. So yeah, I really liked John Ritter. I think he really was talented, especially specifically comedically. I mean, he really was good at that stuff.
So I liked him. He never really got the respect that he deserved for that because it was comedy and nobody gives comedy any respect. But yeah, even that one, it was just such a hard sell. I was like, I like you, John, but damn, get rid of that kid. It was great.
But the thing I like about that movie, which is... or both of those movies together, Amy Asbeck in the first one plays his wife. And, you know, she gets, like, chipped off somewhere. She, like, divorces him and runs away with a bow tie killer and whatnot. Don't you hate when that happens? Yeah.
And the second one, she comes back as a different person. But they are married in real life, so I guess that's why. That's weird. Yeah, she's in the... Because in the second one, there's this girl named Trixie who's just, like, junior... but she's just like the girl version.
Oh, wow. Because you've got to up the ante on the sequel. I think she was the little ginger kid, too. No, she was this ugly, pinchy-faced blonde girl. See, she was the one I couldn't stand because her face was so pinchy, like a little ugly dog or something.
I hate people with pinchy faces. Oh, Lord. So is that most of yours? Uh yeah i started to watch robots i mean i tried to watch two movies and everyone else in the room was very drunk this was at five o'clock in the morning and they'd all been drinking since like five o'clock in the evening. This is why i avoid the circumstances.
Yeah so i tried to watch the movie robots and i don't know i said something really stupid and people couldn't handle it after that i was like Get the fuck over it, kid. Your dad's just a lonely dishwasher. Nice. I thought that was so hilarious, which it wasn't even that funny. It's harsh.
Like in a circle, the three people I was watching the movie with, they just kept repeating that over and over. Like parrots. And I was like, okay, let's watch Hot Tub Time Machine instead. And then, of course, we couldn't get through that because they all passed out. Of course.
I want to see that. Yeah. That was pretty much it. All right. Well, just to mix it up, because we started after me this time, so I'll round it out this week.
Yeah, mine has a nice serial killer feel to it. Not that I don't always have a serial killer vibe anyway, but all week they were running their little... I don't know if it was just like to catch up on when they read. They're going through Dexter all week long on Showtime. So like every night they're cranking out like three episodes in a row.
So I watched a good portion of it. And I was trying to figure out what season it was because it's like I'm missing the middle ones. So that's why I was trying to go and watch these because I've seen the first and the last one. And I'm trying to catch up on the middle one. So I think they were in the middle of the third season.
I don't know. It was interesting because, yeah, there were people that weren't in the fourth one, and I'm trying to figure out what happened to them. And, yeah, they revealed that. It was quite an interesting little twist along the way. So, yeah, that was cool.
And not even on purpose, just because it fell on the same weekend, I ended up watching the Dahmer movie. Oh, God, it's messed up. Which I didn't even end up finishing. I still need to go back and watch it to give you the full rundown. But that's the one with Jeremy Renner in it.
Yeah. I don't know if it's just because now I know who he is from The Hurt Locker, but I can't see him as Dahmer. I just see him as Jeremy Renner now, and I don't know if I would have watched it. two years ago if it would sit differently with you. It did. When I saw it, it was when it just came out, and I didn't know who the guy was.
Well, how do you feel about him as Dahmer? That was the thing. I think he's a good actor. I just can't. You didn't buy it?
Well, no. I just can't see him as that. I'm watching him as this crazy guy and this serial killer, but I'm not meshing the two. I'm not connecting it with, oh, and that's Dahmer. The part that was really weird is, again, I'm just kind of watching that first half. and to make these kind of movies really does cross a creepy line because the things that are going on these are real people yeah like yeah I mean that because I know people like got really upset when they started doing some of the other ones like all these Casey the uh what's the Dean and No, it's the.
Bundy. Yeah, Bundy. Bundy's the one that... I mean, he had so many girls. I mean, there's all these stories that are all real girls, and their parents are still out there, and their families are still out there, and it's kind of weird to sit there and have this, not just someone you know being turned into a movie, but someone that you know is deaf being turned into a movie.
It's kind of a creepy line that they have to cross when they make these movies. And they're not easy to watch because... yeah these are real people yeah this is you know pretty much what happened and it's just like god it's hard to watch like it was really hard for me to get through Ted Bundy and of course Gacy and Dahmer just cause of like you know what he's doing to these people like oh my god and Geinman was messed up yeah. So crazy I watched half of it then I was like I need to watch. Cartoons yeah I need something fluffy happiness. Yeah so it yeah it's like It's definitely different than watching, like, Silence of the Lambs.
You know, it's the same type of thing, but it's a fictionalized version, and it's just stealing from these stories, but it's not like the actual hands-on account that... Because that whole series that they did of these serial killers is very... trying to do a pretty close version of that story so it's it's kind of weird that yeah they're it's a little too close sometimes to be a fun movie it is it does make. It sort of a hard watch i was really palatable anyways but you know i was kind of definitely this one because i think i'd watched the uh the bundy one a while back And I think this I was more impressed with just visually. I think it seemed like it had a little bit better budget to it. Because I remember some of the other ones, I remember that they were all straight to DVD and they kind of had a pretty limited budget.
So I was impressed. This one just looked pretty good. So I was kind of surprised just from that aspect. They seemed like they put a little more time and money into it. But yeah, it's still kind of a weird series of movies.
It's so weird how, I don't know, I don't even think, I don't think that's ever occurred to me because I'm just so desensitized to movies and TV shows about serial killers. It's just like, it doesn't happen very often, but everyone's just so used to it that when they hear about a serial killer, no one's even surprised. Like, almost like it has become so fictional because there's way more movies and stories about serial killers than there are actual ones. It's just like... I don't even, I have a hard time visualizing it as something that's ever been real.
Like, I don't know if that makes any sense or not, but it's just like. It does in our society. It's like we really have, especially since like. 70s on it's like it became it became we sensationalize them to the point that they were celebrities they weren't even criminals really they became celebrities and there's and since then it's weird because now there's this whole new like generation of kids that have come up with them having been like a story like they really are movies so kids that you know are going to all the horror conventions now. Like, you know, Gein is like a hero to them now.
I mean, it really is like a, you know, a bedtime story that they heard as a kid. People are like bidding the hundreds of thousands of dollars for Dahmer's refrigerator that he kept the heads in and shit like that. To where it's like, really? Like. there's a whole huge group of people that like just love the memorabilia love the the connection to it but i think it is weird because it's almost entered into this weird situation where it's. Not real like it really is sort of become this this like legendary thing but like especially because we went through that long time like dalmer was about the only one in recent history all the rest of them were like 70s and it's like we went through that lull where it's like None of them really made it to that level.
The people were still getting killed out there. We never stopped killing people in this country. But none of them were that level of, like, you know, epic, crazy serial killer until Dahmer came back around and sort of, you know, made it. Revitalized. Yeah, he brought it up to that level again.
It really was that creepy and weird a story that it kind of leveled out with Bundy and all the rest of these guys. So it's, yeah, it's... I don't know. I think that's the only one that's in recent, and probably why it was weirder watching that, because I kind of remember that as a real news story, which, you know, the Gein stuff, you don't remember. You know, even like the 70s stuff.
I don't remember. Dahmer, I remember it being on the news. So it's really weird watching this guy do a fictionalized version of somebody that actually really got killed that I remember on the news and them talking about that story. I remember in the fifth grade, even before I knew really who Ted Bundy was, I remember the date. I don't remember the date, but I remember the day of school. where Bundy was to be executed, and we were all like, yeah, I like Fry's ass.
I didn't know who he was, but now that I know who he was, I'm more like, yeah, Fry's ass, I'm glad. I remember the OJ trial. Yeah, I definitely remember the OJ trial. That warped an entire generation. I like Kevin.
Yeah that's awesome that the whole school like we took off like in school classes stopped. Yeah they did for everybody everywhere it was weird. That was awesome that's sad but it's weird. It's weird how much that affected I mean that became like the whole world was obsessed with that there were the three most famous the three people on the face of the earth that everyone has heard of is like OJ Simpson Jesus and like I don't even know who else. Charles Manson.
Santa Claus. Probably Michael Jackson. You're probably right. Yeah, Michael Jackson's pretty freaking famous. Well, I remember, and it took me a while to really understand, because when it came out, I didn't really understand kind of what it was trying to say about it, but now that, of course, I'm older and uh, kind of got on board was natural born killers.
And that was basically the whole, that's what it was talking about was the celebrity of serial killers and how, you know, sensationalized and through the media and whatever, it's almost like people begin to idolize them. And, you know, when I remember when I first saw the movie, I was like, this movie is ridiculous in the world is going on. But then when I got a little bit older, I'm like, Oh, okay. When I was smart enough to understand, uh. Well, it's a lot going on in that movie.
I don't think I've ever seen it. Really? See, we need to watch it, because I think it's awesome. And you know one thing? I don't know if this is.
I mean, you just don't hear about serial killers very often, and I think maybe not because they don't exist so much, but just because they don't publicize it, because they know how dangerous it is, because Not only does it feed the serial killer, but also there's always so many copycats. Like with the Black Dahlia, thousands of people have turned themselves in for that. Again, just showing you how weird people are about that stuff. They're obsessed with it to the point that they want to be that, even if it ends up them getting caught for it, even if they didn't do it. That's how ridiculous it gets.
Yeah, yeah. It's so weird. Yeah, it's a very weird thing. But yeah, it's just like there's so much fictional, like every CSI and every show. It's just become such a fictional thing.
It's like believing in wizards. Or dragons or something. It's just like, just in my mind, it's just an unreal thing because... Or it's almost overkill. Yeah.
It's so... constant at this point every show is about people getting killed you know everything that's on tv now especially network that's all they show is cop shows and you know finding dead people that's that's damn near every show oh. And uh i wanted to mention this when she was talking about the knife and then you were talking about dexter the brand of our knives at work is dexter yes and every time i cut a tomato i cannot help but laugh. Every time i cut a tomato i hear it scream. Tomato juice everywhere i get so like that it just tickles tickles me it's fun. Oh so maybe your reaction earlier there as is what led me to the only other thing i watched uh yesterday morning i found myself sitting there watching busy town.
Oh my god, Busytown. Busytown, you probably watched it or read the books as a child. Like Richard Scarry? Yeah, Richard Scarry. So I didn't, I just in the last year noticed that there was a cartoon.
I had no idea how long it's been around. But I remember, and it's funny because this is something I've always taken from his work, and I put this online. I posted this yesterday, just a random message that I was watching it and followed up with, Loli Worm is the fucking man. The fact that there's a character named Loli Worm. Loli Worm.
And the dude has no arms, but he drives a car. That's fucking awesome. I'm sorry. That's pretty tight. I remember that came on when I was little.
I grew up with my cousin, Patrick. That's why I've been so nostalgic for Problem Challenge. We used to stay up all night. when USA would have problem child marathons, and we would watch it for like eight hours solid. Oh, wow. That's sad.
Oh, wow. Yeah, but whenever Busytown came on, we'd be like, fuck this shit, let's watch Ren and Stimpy, you know? See, that's the thing. I watched more of that stuff as a kid. I didn't like kids' stuff when I was a kid, but now I find myself watching.
Reverting. Which is funny, because I was at some sort of family thing yesterday, and I mentioned that I was watching that, and my dad was sitting there, and he was like, That explains a lot about your life. I was like, little do you know. Probably more than you want to know about. This is why we don't talk.
Yes. It's best that I don't engage with other humans. Busy Town sounds like the sad... Like, adjacent town to LazyTown. Yeah.
LazyTown has, like, a smoke haze over it. You smell patchouli. Once you get booted out of BusyTown, you just wander over to LazyTown. That's where all the good boot stores are anyway. Oh, hell yeah.
People in Busy Town just bitch about you all day long. Busy Town's dry. Lazy Town is wet as hell. It's kind of like Canada. What?
Excellent point. Oh, man. Misty.... Called me and told me about this, but apparently Hot Topic, and I've known this for a while because I've seen them, but Hot Topic has Garbage Poked t-shirts. So I went there to look for those because I love Garbage Poked.
But they didn't have any, but I did find like Rocco's Modern Life t-shirts and like other shows that I grew up watching, you know, and I realized like all real monsters definitely like shaped and like Beetlejuice and the Addams Family cartoon. Those cartoons kind of shaped who I am. But then I feel like Rocco's Modern Life gave me my warped sense of humor. It was very weird. I feel like Rocco's Modern Life is the reason that I love John Waters movies and things like that.
Way to go, Rocco. Totally messed her up. I love the, like, hypochondriac turtle, Filbert. He's amazing. Filbert.
Man, I was really into U.S. Acres. Even though nobody. Else liked that. Oh, U.S.
Acres? It was like everybody else hated when that one came out. I was like, no, dude, Sheldon? Come on. Yeah, Sheldon.
Sheldon's awesome. He just didn't want to come out of his egg. See, those kind of characters are genius. This is the egg with the. Oh, man.
I remember Eat the Cat. Eat the Cat was good. Eat the Cat was good. All kinds of weird things. The Tick.
The tip is awesome. The tip's awesome. I can't wait. And now what do we have as far as cartoons? Oh, we don't.
Again, the stuff not made for kids. Adventure Time. Have you seen that one? It's amazing. It's awesome.
That is crazy. I saw it online even before it came out. Is it on Adult Swim? No, it's Nickelodeon. Is it just Cartoon Network?
Yeah, Nickelodeon. Is it on Nickelodeon? No, maybe it is Cartoon Network. Maybe it's earlier in the day Cartoon Network, but it's not part of Adult Swim. It's when kids should be watching it.
I'd like to watch an episode online or something. It is. awesome it's just so bizarre a. Couple of years ago like nickelodeon and cartoon network both went through that phase where they did like you know shows that i should like like danny phantom you know like the show and then juniper lee she like was like buffy she like kicked monsters but that was a. Cool idea i wish they would. Have done more it was like they were making cartoons just for me but they don't do that anymore now they all kind of back to sucking.
Yeah again it's like you have to look for them the good cartoons are still out there they're just they're all kind of just flying under the radar it's like they've got their own little following and the people that like them because that was the thing misty brought up adventure time a couple weeks ago and i hadn't paid any attention to it and then i started watching i was like this is fucking weird. And it's awesome and before it kind of like jumped the shark which is weird when a cartoon jumps the shark but like the grim adventures of billy and mandy was. Awesome it was awesome yeah and then. What was the other one that i like so much um Oh, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. That was good.
I love Foster's. That's another one of those that was too smart for. Its own good. They just have spurts of having awesome cartoons and shitty cartoons. Awesome.
There's a theme. Chocolate milk, mac and cheese. I like cereal. I like cereal. Horsie!
Did you ever notice the weird references that they worked in? Like the Big Lebowski. Reference and the pedal ball? That was just so crazy. That's, again, that's the...
So many of these better ones aren't really even for kids, you know? But it's weird. That's what I think is cool is when it crosses over and you do get little kids that like these shows because they're on their own kid level and then you can watch it as an adult and appreciate it for other things. And I kind of wish... like back to the movies I kind of wish movies would understand that and with the exception of Pixar every other kids movie is just that it's just bad CGI animals and they're just stupid jokes and kids laugh at it because they're kids but I'm like that's not an excuse don't dumb it down for them because you just make dumb kids it's like why not do something that's got a level of intelligence above that and then give it a year or two and the kids will start catching up and they'll be like this is actually funny I still like this years later.
Yeah that's what it creates a loyalty you know because like Kids aren't going to, I don't have any desire to watch the stupid knockoff cartoons that I watched when I was a kid. But, you know, like you think about these amazing things that were so full of references that you couldn't even understand at like six years old. And you're just like, oh, that's awesome. You know, and those are the type of cartoons that are still being bought and sold on DVD and things like that. And you can still, you know, like with the Nickelodeon cartoons, everyone's nostalgic for those now because it's a generation of kids that grew up on those.
Now you can sell the T-shirts at Hot Topic and people want to buy them because they're like, oh, fuck yeah, Reptar. It's awesome, you know. Yeah. Yeah. It always comes back around.
You just have to give it enough time. Yeah. But yeah, it makes it better if it's got something to it. If you have a little something, a little work, a little thought put into it, it makes it worth coming back to. Because yeah, there's a lot of stuff that I liked as a kid that I watch now and I'm like, this is just crap.
So yeah, it's good to find the better made stuff. So. I guess that can wrap us up on the Geek Week. The many avenues of Geek Week. Serial killers and cartoons.
That's what we like around here. I mean, you know, it's like there's always something different, but it always comes back to cartoons. Boobs and cartoons, serial killers and cartoons, whatever it is. We just, our minds don't wander too far. No, it's the basic elements of life, you know.
Those are all awesome things, and we like them. All right, we will take a break and be back with What's the Buzz? I'm standing on. A platform, smoking a big cigar. Waiting for some old freight train, carries.
An empty car. I rode her down to Danville town, got stuck on a Danville girl. You bet your life she was a pearl, she wore that Danville curl. If you leave the theater, folks, please be careful. Don't let this happen to your car.

They say Ezra Cobb was a nice enough fella, kind of quiet, hardworking, good neighbor, devoted son, just about the last person in the world you'd suspect of being deranged. Deranged, the story of Ezra Cobb, grave robber, psychopath, and homicidal maniac. He was trapped in his mother's web of evil, twisted by his own demented fears, so obsessed with death itself that he became deranged.
He carved a trail of butchery so brutal that newspapers refused to print its gruesome details. Deranged, a nightmare of insane murder and lingering death. Deranged. Rated R. Under 17.

Hi, this is Tom Kane, the voice of Yoda. And listening to Movie Meltdown, you are this. I like chocolate milk. I like chocolate milk. I like cereal.
I wouldn't just strangle that guy. I know, everybody loves him when he's just like... I like Blue, the psycho. See, Blue I like. No, no, no.
Berry. Blue Regard. Yeah, I love Blue, but Berry. Remember Blueberry? Yeah.
She was like, I made this album of all the special moments that we've had together. What was the Hispanic monster guy? The one that was scared of everything. Eduardo. Eduardo.
I loved Eduardo. I was like, see, I like potatoes. I like potatoes. I like potatoes. I liked that he was a monster and he was scared of everything.
That was awesome. Like, but I don't want to go in there. And Wilt was the. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Wilt. Wilt. Wonder if he nailed a bunch of chicken. Yes. All right.
We are back with What's the Buzz? Groovy. Tell me what's happening. What's the buzz? Tell me what's happening.
What's the buzz? Tell me what's happening. What's the buzz? Tell me what's happening. This just in.
This just in. Extensive search for Sony's Spider-Man is over. Okay, so now I told her to go ahead and get the iPhone ready, because go ahead and type in, because I'm going to say the name, and you're all going to go, wait, who? Go ahead and type in Andrew Garfield, because he has been chosen as the new and younger and more improved... Peter Parker.
His name is failure. Yes, President Garfield. They're going to dig him up and make him Peter Parker. That will be awesome because people love zombie movies and they love superhero movies. Two in one special.
It's going to be awesome. Hey, wait. They had that. Marvel Zombies. Yeah, Marvel Zombies.
Marvel Zombies. They already had that. Never mind. Cancel the whole project. Damn it.
His name sounds familiar. He has been in The Other Boleyn Girl, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. His head is too small. Didn't see that.
And the upcoming The Social Network. His head's too small. I don't like it. There you go. We're now checking it out.
His hair. What? Okay. His head is way too small. I kind of recognize him.
I know. Like a pea head. Okay. Yeah. That's a scary noggin.
Weird. Just a dude. His big hair. Maybe. Yeah.
He looks like a Jonas brother. I think if his hair was toned down a little bit. It kind of got the Joe look going. It wouldn't overshadow his visage. No.
He's a Jonas brother. No. He's like the missing Jonas. Oh, God. He looks worse there.
Yeah. He looks like Chachki. He looks. Boom. Yeah.
That's not a good. Look right there. I would rather McLovin be Spider-Man. For real. I don't want that either, actually.
Even here he is with short hair, and it's worse. He continues to get worse the more we look at him. I don't want to see any more pictures of this douche-coo. Yeah, that's not cool. He's not near a douche-coo.
Don't sully the fine name of douche-coo. Yeah, I'm sorry. Well, it's funny. We'll get to what the director says about him here in a minute. But yeah, scheduled for July 3rd, 2012, which is.
Nearing ever closer. They better hurry up and get this thing going. We're going to be dead before then. Oh, probably. The yet untitled Spider-Man reboot will be directed by Mark Webb.
Make your own jokes. Who did 500 Days of Summer. And here's what Mark has to say about the casting. He says, though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor's work understand his extraordinary talents. He is a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity.
Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as your president. I mean, as Peter Parker. Sounded like he was running for office there for a second. You will love Andrew Garfield. Vote for him now.
So, yeah, I don't know. We don't love his face so far, but we'll have to see his wit and humanity. Peter Parker has never, you know, I don't know, he's not a really big character. He's just kind of. It's a.
Weird mix, you know. So, I mean, I don't think it would take that much to fill that. Yeah. Don't shoot. Yeah.
It's kind of like, dude, as Peter Parker, you kind of blow, but a Spider-Man? Yeah. Pretty cool. Yeah. Well, that's what it is.
It's such a weird mix because you can't cast somebody cool. You know, it's like you've got to play, which I guess a lot of them sort of do that. Like, that's the ultimate alter ego is to be a doofus. You know, even, you know, Clark Kent has to be a bumbling idiot, you know, just to cover the fact that he's so fucking awesome in his super identity. So.
This is, yeah, I mean, it's one of those, yeah, you've got to, especially Peter Parker, though, because he's a dorky kid. So it's like you've got to cast the dorky kid, but he's also got to pull off being, you know, super cool Spider-Man. So it's weird being able to cast that. And they kind of lucked out last time. I mean, Toby sort of fell into both sides.
It's like, you know, he's especially when he's believable. He believed, yeah, you believed him as a dork because we all thought he was a dork up until then. And then he sort of bulked up midway through and was like, okay, I know I got to play a superhero. So he sort of pulled off, you know, being both sides of that, which is, it is a hard thing to cast. You know, when you, when you think about all the comics written, you can really tell who writes them.
It's like, oh, look at this nerdy guy that everybody makes fun of, but on the inside, he's a superhero, and he's really awesome. You're missing out. Just like me. That's what was sort of fun with Kick-Ass. I love the hand motions that went along with that.
But that was what was sort of cool with Kick-Ass. It did sort of address the fact that it openly acknowledged the fact that this is a group of comics made by dorky guys about dorky guys, but then they're totally awesome. They're totally awesome. Yeah, you've got them sort of making fun of that and then in the end becoming that all at the same time. So, yeah, it's a weird movie.
I need to see it. It is awesome. It was awesome. But, yeah, here's the weird thing I wanted to bring up on the President Garfield thing here. So they're casting him and they're trying to be like, this is the new, younger, cooler, high school version or whatever they're doing with this new plot line.
He's 26. Yeah. So by the time they yeah first of all he doesn't look it yeah but yeah it's like okay i don't even know if they're sticking with the high school plot line but even if they aren't if they're going for a sequel if they're going for a series of movies by the time the next one comes out he's gonna be 30 yeah like how is he the not the newer younger spider-man when he's fucking 30. Already dude i'm 27. Yeah he's like what the fuck I got screwed out of another six movies.
What the hell? So yeah, it makes no sense. All they talked about was going younger and going to high school years and we're, you know, a whole new generation. I'm like, what the fuck? He's barely out of Toby's generation.
Yeah. You're obsessed with Drake Bell. Drake Bell. Yes, I am. He already had that superhero movie.
Who's Drake Bell? It was really bad. That was horrible. It was really bad. So we've seen what he can do as a superhero.
What movie was it? Superhero movie. Superhero movie. It's basically a scary movie for superheroes. For superhero movies.
It's terrible. It's horrible. I didn't see it. Don't watch it. I watched it.
That's how I know you're obsessed with Drake Bell. Then loved it. Yeah. Only watch certain parts, though. It's okay.
Just when he was wearing the tight-fitting suit. Tight-fitting outfit. So, if this is, like, pre-Spider-Man, is this going to be, like, Gossip Girl or something? Right? If he can't shoot webs out of his hand, who gives a fuck what this loser is doing?
Maybe they're going with the Robin Hood movie now. I mean, that was, like... Everything that led up to him becoming Robin Hood. And then when he gets to the point he becomes Robin Hood, it's over. So maybe this is like Spider-Man going to math class.
This is how he got real smart. We're going to see him study him for the big test. And when he begins to fawn over Mary Jane. When Mary Jane turned him down to go to the dance. It's going to be that drama.
We're not going to have any of that pesky superhero. Yeah, really. I'm so smart, nobody knows. You missed the hand motion there. He said that.
You can guess what it was. So, yeah, I don't know. It seems like a weird way to go if they're trying to go younger. He's not younger. If they're trying to go with the other plot line, we've already seen that.
So I don't know what they're doing with this story. Hollywood is out of ideas. And almost out of money. Yeah, that too. The Ultimate Spider-Man series is a younger Spider-Man because there's Spider-Man and there's Ultimate Spider-Man.
And Ultimate Spider-Man was like a different... universe or whatever and he was younger and you know things are different like like Venom's in it but you know Eddie Brock's dying of cancer and he's like going to high school with Eddie Brock and stuff like that so I don't know if they're gonna go with that if they're looking to go the younger Peter Parker and whatnot. They always go younger. I still think it would almost be more interesting at this point to follow a superhero and watch them get older. Again, we brought this up before. The DC Universe does that.
We follow Batman getting old in. The comics and cartoons. That's awesome. They don't do it in the movies, but in the rest of the story, Marvel doesn't do that. They're eternally 19 in the Marvel Universe.
I think it would have been cool to. in there somewhere. Probably. But I mean, it would be kind of cool to hang on to like a Toby or somebody and like follow them into their 40s and be like, okay, what does Spider-Man do when he actually starts getting old? And like, did the power start to deteriorate as the rest of his body gets old? Is he ever like climbing up a building like, my back.
Son of a bitch. You'd think that would be like, you'd think that would be the part where they introduce the next generation. Yeah. You know, like, this is Spider-Man's baby. Spider-Man's time.
Well, again, Batman Beyond did that. And that's a cool idea. It was an interesting way to go. And they don't want to back a whole movie doing that, I guess, because that's too much money. Because they're friggin' idiots.
But, I mean, the cartoon series, if you watch that, that's kind of, I mean, they got kind of ridiculous in some of the villains and some of the future world. But it's a cool idea. It's basically the Robin idea, only not lame and super cheesy and kind of gay overtones. But, yeah, I mean, this really is, I'm getting too old. I need to bring somebody in to carry on the legacy of Batman.
I think I actually, there's a whole website devoted to this. But didn't, in the comics, Batman had, like, a nephew or somebody that he, like, took care of or something like that? Probably. Because it was, like, no, maybe it wasn't Batman. But I don't remember.
But it was some, it may have been Superman. I think it was Superman. And he had this, like. In the later comics, there was, like, this kid that he took care of or something like that. And he was a dick to the kid.
And the website was, like, all about, like, comic excerpt. You know what word I'm grasping for here, people. But it was all about those where he was just a total dick and he would say, like, asshole things. I think you're thinking of Uncle Donald. He took care of Huey Dewey in the movie.
No. And he was always yelling at him and shit. Yeah. Fucking lose it and yell at him. No.
No I'm not sure which. One that is yeah I do not know I'm pretty sure it was like either Batman or Superman and I looked at the website for like four hours one night it was really funny bored of course it was a Saturday night what do you expect no I'm just. Kidding that's like my Saturday night hold on encroaching on my geek territory it. May not have been a Saturday I don't know it could have been a Friday. Encroaching.
Yes. Two other words. Encroached upon. He did not just say encroach upon me. All right.
So moving on. And I know at least most of us here will probably be big fans of the original incarnation of this. Where it's going, I don't know. Paul Rubens is back. Oh, yes.
Uh maybe i don't know if i'm yaying at this point yes well there you go see that was back in the day uh he's been trying to get his new kiwi movie made for about 10 years now and obviously he has many reasons for them uh giving him resistance but um speaking in a hand motion earlier yep so the uh it appears it's getting closer to actually happening uh thank for being out of ideas yeah not necessarily see i don't know we'll we'll get to that in a minute i'll finish this so it says um in the past there's been talk about ruben's doing uh he's writing the screenplay now and it's like it's one of two stories it'll be either peewee dealing with celebrity after an embarrassing incident gee i wonder where they're going with this Or the story will be more closely resembling something from Pee Wee's Playhouse, which, again, would probably have more people on board for it because it's not...
The other one actually sounds like an interesting story, but everybody would probably hate it because it's not what they're used to. Kind of like Pauly Shore is dead. Yeah, probably like taking a weird showbiz look at a character, like a weird fictional character, and then I'm sure they'd screw it up anyway. Yeah. Regardless um i don't know i don't know what to do with this because have you seen peewee lately have you seen when.
He was on pushing daisies which was amazing and it sucks that that got canceled. Well i mean does he but was he peewee no did you see when he was on jay leno first of all yeah then the last in the run of jay leno on his stupid little fake show whatever that 10 o'clock bullshit was that's probably the only part of it i ever watched because i avoided it like the plague it was horrible But I saw Pee Wee was coming on. I was like, well, this is cool. I haven't seen him in... I've seen Paul Reubens on show, and he's talked about trying to get the movie off the ground for years.
I haven't seen him in the costume. He just got back into doing the official character again. So he came on there. He was not funny. And I don't know if it's just because Jay Leno sucks the funny out of anything he comes in contact with, because that show was just horrible.
And it really did sort of find a way of killing any form of comedy. But. he did some crazy salad bar gag and it made no sense. And it's like some of his old stuff used to not make sense. And that was the joke. This just didn't really make sense.
Like I have no idea. Yeah. It was just like, what are you doing? Like, were you just bored one day? It was late.
It was a Saturday night. He didn't have anything to do. I'm embarrassed for you. He started building a salad bar and decided he wanted to make a routine. Out of it.
Well, that's the thing is, you know, he was so early nineties, Peewee Homer, so early nineties and, To bring him back now, I don't know if this is the same. I don't know if he can survive in this climate or whatever. I mean, it worked once. But, you know, it's just like you can't bring Howdy Doody back. Yeah, kids wouldn't know what to do.
It won't work. So it is one of those. I mean, that's what I was trying to decide. Is it something you can return to? I mean, is that version of Pee Wee gone?
Or even if that version of Pee Wee is still around, if he can bring it back, is anybody in this audience now okay with it? Other than the Nostalgia Group. Yeah. But they're going to be, like, they're still going to have their own weird thing. I mean, they've changed in the last 20 years.
So it's like, I don't know. It's a weird thing for them to try to bring it back, and it's even weirder if they're trying to bring it back just like it was, because I don't know if that's going to sell at this point. I love Pee-wee's Playhouse and everything involving Pee-wee. I have all the movies and all the toys, and oh my god, it's crazy. But.
At the same time, when I imagine him coming back, I imagine this, like, sad little middle-aged guy. He's pushing 60. Oh, my God. Jesus. He's got, like, wrinkly skin and, like, love handles and split pants and stuff like that.
And just being really creepy. Yeah. Because it was, like, a comfortable. He was creepy then. It was a.
Comfortable level of creepy. Yeah. But now I just think it would be really just. Sad, creepy. It's like the old guy from Family Guy.
Yeah. Yeah there's a homeless guy that comes into my work that sounds exactly like that no joke everyone laughs he whistles when he talks to everyone laughs and laughs and laughs and he's always like making these crazy hats out of like garbage and he's like I made this hat. I'm going to wear it to the dance tonight. And I'm like, okay. I'm going to call the cops.
And I'm like, please don't sit your hat on the bar. I don't know where it's been. But I have ideas and I don't like them. And now your hat is walking away. That was just my toilet.
Once he had a hat and it had fake horses glued all over it. It was his derby hat. Oh, my Lord. Obviously. It was made out of foam pipe insulation.
It wasn't even like a hat. It was just like a big coil of foam pipe insulation. Oh these are the special special people we deal with oh my. God almost as awesome as the crazy guy outside last week who kept yelling like we looked over at him and he got up and started running towards him yeah i'm gonna chuck your goddamn head off and we were like oh my gosh. Yeah what It's best not to, like, make direct fun of people like that because you don't know what they're going to do.
We weren't making fun of him, we just looked in his direction. Oh, that's a. Mistake, too. Oh, God. Oh, it hurts.
I'm bringing you back for movie fan freak show. We haven't done that in a while. I work across the. Street from a mental health institution. I don't know if I needed to clarify that.
There's a shocker. But, you know, even then, I think, like, crazy people can just sense it and maybe that's why i work across the street from mental. Health they're drawn to you you're drawn. To them no just they're drawn to the institution because like people who aren't there for treatment like the other day had this like meth whore there was something wrong with this girl she was like delusional she thought she was a model she was standing outside holding a bud light she goes Look at all these cars driving by. I bet they're all thinking, what's this beautiful girl doing outside in front of this bar drinking a Bud Light in the middle of the day?
And I was like, yeah, I'm sure that's what they're thinking. Probably not. No, that's just the weird, and that's probably the least weird thing going on in your head right now. Not really. Oh, wow.
That's probably the most normal thought you've had in a month. And it's still scary. No, no. It's so sad. Crazy.
As we all laugh. So, Pee-wee. Yes. Back to Pee-wee. Pee-wee.
So, is that what it's going to be, though? I mean, it was creepy enough if you stopped and thought about, especially the show. Like, the movie's awesome. The movie sort of stands on its own. It's its own weird thing.
Yeah. The TV show entered into that. Here's this weird guy inviting a bunch of kids over to his house. That's terrible. That's weird anyway, but now you've got a 60-year-old guy inviting little kids over to his house.
Dressed up like a little boy. Yeah, and wearing a creepy bow tie. So, I mean, is that going to bring all... I mean, is that going to sit well with anybody? I don't think there's an audience out there left.
Well, here's the really weird part. Like, to me, the rest of it, them dragging that out. It was just sort of weird. Well, them dragging that out and trying to make money off of it does not surprise me at all. This is kind of surprising.
The man who's bringing it back is Judd Apatow. really 40 year old virgin knocked up like all these big comedies now and he does sort of have a handle on what people like in comedies so he's producing the project he's you know he's on board i don't know if he's gonna have i can't imagine him directing it but he's definitely going to be involved in it so the fact that he's even involved is very strange if. There's anything that can save peewee i think apatow can that might that might be it yeah a resurgence oh weird. The other thing that's weird, though, is Paul Rubens is co-writing the script with Paul Rust, whose TV work includes Moral Oral, which makes me think it's going to be equally as weird as the old stuff because that's a fucked up show.
That's a messed up show. And talk about weird pervy stuff going on. Let's talk about that damn show. So it's not like it's going to get less pervy by including... Are they.
Going to just stop skirting around the issue and make this an adult movie? Again, I think that would be more interesting. I think that would piss a lot of people off. If they really just went ahead and took it there and were like, okay, let's face the fact Pee-wee's a perv. I don't think he was.
I don't think he was in the old show, but I'm saying if you look at that circumstance, that's the most logical way to go with a story. It's like, okay, let's look at this weird guy who has all these toys in his house and bring kids over. Yeah. that's a way you could look at it that's different i think that would piss everybody. Off that just bothers me so much that everyone's like peewee's a perv and i mean maybe it kind of is but dude people didn't have vcrs in their house then that's just the way i feel about it like everybody it wasn't in the 70s and at that time like couples would go to drive-ins and whatever and there was always porn on like it was just a thing that was just what happened you know what everybody did not that it's like not gross to like hear about but I just think it's a really unfortunate I wasn't.
Touching anybody else he was just touching somebody that's my thing I think everybody pleases himself every goddamn day in this country that's right and that's what I think is bullshit I think he got screwed over on that because it's different if he really was doing something that or even if it wasn't about kids even if he was just like a tag groping some girl in a theater well that's creepy too but he was doing what everybody else in the world does and what everybody else that went out there and bust him does and it who put him up there and shined the spotlight on him and bitched about it. They're doing it too. So I thought it was bullshit. Yeah, definitely. He got a raw deal.
Yeah. Which, I mean, really, it ruined his career. For no reason. Once again, it would be legit if he was busted doing something perverted to someone else. Yeah.
God forbid to a kid. But he didn't do anything to anybody. And once again, it would be different if he was just out in the world. If he was at the mall touching himself, all right, fine. I can see it ruining his career.
He was in an adult theater. That's what they're there for. Exactly. They can argue that all they want, but we all know in the real world, that's what they're there for. Yeah.
Every judge, every police officer, you know, it's just, it doesn't really. Bullshit. Yeah, bullshit. I'm telling you. Free Pee-Wee.
Oh, wait a minute. Free Pee-Wee and then don't make a movie, Pee-Wee. It's probably in your best interest. Just stop. I like him as a character actor.
I wish he would stop trying to be Pee-Wee. Just let it die. I liked him in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I liked him in, what is that, Nice Dreams? Yeah.
I mean, he was doing stuff a long time ago. Yeah. So, I mean, he is, you know, an interesting guy. I wish he would just get over the PB thing because it was sort of at that time and place. And I don't know that you can go back to it.
I wish he would just sort of focus on other stuff because he's a cool character actor, like you said. Adult Swim had it. probably like four or five years. Ago, like 23 o'clock in the morning. Yeah. I still love that.
Do you think he puts his peewee outfit on every day and looks in the mirror. And cracks like, I was so popular. I think if anything, he's probably even over it, you know, and maybe they're just like, dude, you should do it, you know, blah, blah, blah. And he's like, okay, like, He was, I know, because he said he couldn't even get into it for a long time. And when he got back into this in the last year or two, he started them trying to get back into the character and he did have to go back.
So I think he was sort of done with it for a while and wanted to move on and then realized nobody's going to let him move on. Nobody's going to let him be a normal actor now. It'd be weird if they did a Pee Wee movie, but it wasn't him. Oh, God. Now we've invited that shit.
Sean William Scott. Yeah, really, that's Pee Wee. Johnny Depp is Pee Wee. And Tim Burton. Tim Burton.
The Adventures of Pee Wee 2. God, that's what's going to happen. Big Top Pee Wee. Bigger Top Pee Wee. What else is funny?
Maybe that was the name of the movie that he got kicked out of. What was that? Pee Wee and Wonderland. Sounds like an interesting spin-off movie right there. We can make millions.
Start writing that. Get on that screenplay now. I didn't mean for that to come out. Are you okay? It's such a cackle.
Nice. Oh, God. Moving right along. All right. I'm still trying to get through this.
Maybe if I do this enough, I'll get used to this guy's name, and it won't be such a fight every time, because he comes up every other week. Director Timber Bekmabitov. Bekmabitov. Bekmabitov. Bekmabitov.
Bekmabitov. Oh, now it means nothing. Bekmabitov. There you go. Anyway, the director of Wanted and Nightwatch, He is in talks with Universal Pictures about an English-language remake of the recent Russian action hit Black Lightning, which he also produced.
Black Lightning. I've never heard of it. I watched the trailer for it. It looks kind of interesting. I remember seeing the trailer, I think.
It's not a black superhero, I hate to tell you guys. They're going to lose the title to that if they don't hurry up and jump on that. Yeah. If they're going to do a spinoff Black Lightning, you know, superhero movie. Yeah.
But, yeah, Black Lightning is a Slavic Transformers meets Batman, which basically you think you're on board for. But, yeah, it says the story follows a car-obsessed student who tricks out his own ride and uses it to take on the criminal underground. What? He tricked out his own ride. Wow.
Yeah. And the synopsis makes me happy. Yeah, that's pretty tight. But I think it flies is the way. In the trailer, it looks like it's a flying car.
Well, yeah. That sounds like the Wraith. Oh, no. That sounds like Mask, that cartoon where the doors fold down and the car now can fly. Yeah, it's got wings, of course.
Sure, right? When you said mask, I thought you meant. The movie with Cher. No, not with Cher. Or Jim Carrey.
Big face, yeah. Or big green face. Yeah, there's too many masks out there. No more. The movie was so great.
The one with Cher. I think I was just looking to the ceiling, to the heaven, so nostalgic. It was so dreamy. That big meat, Eric Stoltz. Eric Stoltz's face was so just.
I love your big, round face. It looks like an orc. It'd take you like hours to kiss that thing. That's all you. Yeah.
Oh, do you not like it anymore now? Oh, no. Stop shaking. Sorry. Rocking back and forth.
It's only a dream. It's only a dream. Oh, Lord. Oh, Lord. So the director says there are also plans for a Russian-Chinese sequel to the film.
So I don't know if he wants to also get on board and get a sequel in the works beforehand. It's weird that we're remaking because that's the thing. I'm looking at the trailer and I'm like, it looks kind of cool i want to go watch that one do we need to remake i don't understand why americans are so dumb that they can't just watch other movies exactly i bet. You about this all the time version of something that's a lot better. Because i'm looking at i'm like it looks fun and it looks fun because of where it is it's like if you take all of this and put it in the american setting yeah it almost looks like it's gonna be dumb it's like i can see them just making it dumb and sort of mainstreaming anything that was weird because it almost a lot of these almost work because of their weird tone that comes with being in that country being shot in that country.
From korea that's kind of why it's cool or whatever it's yeah whatever country it's from well. I think america's main problem you can go into any walmart and find this out If I wanted to read a fucking. Book, I'd just read a book. Well, that's true of me, too. But, I at least acknowledge when they make a decent movie, I'll just watch that.
I don't always seek them out because I'm a lazy bastard like the rest of America. But, if I look at it and I'm like, well, that's why this movie works, if you go and change everything, now at least you've got somebody who, you know, is sort of interested in doing it close to that version. He's a fan of the original, but still, I don't know. I'm looking at the trailer going, I don't know that it needs to be remade. But again, this is a talented guy.
So I mean, it's like maybe he can do something interesting with it. I don't know. He's currently working on the Tim Burton adaption of the project we brought up a few weeks ago, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Killer. So he's, yeah, he's already kind of got that going on. He's still deciding whether or not he wants to do a sequel for Wanted.
So he's he's got all these projects in the works anyway. It's just, yeah, this is one of those that it seems like a cool movie. Well, just the fact that they brought it up. I'm like, well, good. Now I need to go find black lightning and watch that movie.
Cause I don't know what they're going to do. It's just one of those. I don't know if it's necessary, but most things Hollywood does. It's unnecessary. Yeah.
All right. And then, uh, we have word this week that Andy circus best known for Gollum and King Kong and the other Peter Jackson version. But, um, He's now signed on in the lead role of another ape-centric movie. He will be doing the motion capture performance for the character in Rise of the Apes, which we brought up a while ago, but we didn't have a star or title, I don't think, at that point. The prequel, remake, reboot, or whatever the hell you want to call it for Planet of the Apes.
Which I don't think is even, I don't know, we can go into that. But Circus is going to play Caesar, the chimpanzee who begins to evolve during the testing of a cure for Alzheimer's disease. I don't know. This is one of those... I don't...
As much as we like to bitch about them doing remakes and prequels and all that bullshit, this, I think, is removed enough. I don't think I hate the idea. Because of an idea... Them remaking the first Planet of the Apes again, which they already did badly. Not even badly, just not the same.
They really just... I like that movie more than I expected to. There's aspects of it that's not horrible. Overall, it's not great, but it's one of those that's watchable. Still, it was like the turning point for Tim Burton.
It's when everything started to go to hell in his career, really. But, I don't know, it's one of those, that was just sort of a dumb idea. It's already, that story's been told and it was good the way it was, and remaking is just going to rehash the same shit we've already seen or do things wrong and fuck it up. Where this is like, it's sort of a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, but to me, number one, that's a movie most people haven't seen, unlike the original. I don't, I can't imagine this person that you're talking about, but I just feel like it's sad that he must resemble an ape so much.
Have you not seen Andy Serkis? No, I'm Googling it right now. All right, put it down. Yeah. So the, yeah, to me, this is like a different enough story.
It's removed enough and they're going to change it quite a bit to the, I feel like they could do something original with it because I think they are doing it more of like starting it almost modern day and then working forward to what will become, because that's sort of how the whole series loops around. It does this weird thing. time loop where they end up going way back in time where we see where the apes start turning into, how it crossed over from humans losing it, and, you know, the first apes that start to learn to talk and start to get their human mannerisms, and you see how that pans out. So I could see them doing that and taking that version of it and doing something really interesting with it.
So I almost don't hate this idea. i think if they're going to do anything to do with planet of the apes this is what i'd rather see them do rather than rehash another version or some other take on the same thing we've already seen. A couple of times now I'm completely indifferent. You just don't like the series, I know. I'm a big fan of it. I'm not a fan, but I haven't seen a lot of it, so I really don't have anywhere to speak from.
So I can't, you know, that's why I am indifferent, because I just, I don't know. That's the thing. I think the first one's amazing. I really like the third one. The second one's just sort of a remake of the first one.
It was just them sort of cashing in on it. What was the movie about, and talking about war games and Matthew Broderick, That was, he was, it was like a chimp was in this program project. Um, yeah, I do know what that is. Hold on a second. That's what I was thinking of when you were saying this, like, Oh, okay.
Like, Oh, this is going to be like that. What was that? Something project, special projects to a project. Dunstan checks in. Apes are great.
Dunstan checks in. Oh, my God. Yes, Dunstan checks in. That's a freaking movie. The military project Dunstan.
He just goes in there with two guns. Ow, ow. What happened? Watch your finger. Watch your finger.
Stitches are popping. Oh, Lord. I'm sorry to just derail the trailer. Project X. Project X, that's it.
I knew it was in there. Okay. So, yes, that's another one of those. It wasn't great, but it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to remake it. Exactly.
Again, I mean, that sort of idea, like taking something like that, like a Project X idea and then having it like. spill over into a planet of the apes like having. Our chimp our testing yeah yeah that'd be interesting. Our testing like lead to the downfall of mankind and then end up being the rise of the apes i mean that is sort of the basic plot line so to see them do kind of a cool and like intricate story because the last two in that series get kind of weird and you don't get like a hands-on version of it it's just sort of stuff happens and they focus more on the war of apes that happens yeah But, yeah, I think this would be cooler if it was more like a lab version. Like, we really have them working on this, you know, the experiments.
And we see, especially, I mean, they've got James Franco, Frida Pinto, and John Lithgow are cast as the humans. Oh, wow. So if you've got, like, Lithgow in a lab coat working on apes, you know, I think that's an angle that could be cool and could actually be, you know, something really well done could come out of that. Doesn't mean it's going to happen, but, yeah. I don't know.
Can we get a cameo from Harry and Henderson's? Oh, God. He's just going to walk by. He's not even in the movie. Just, like, walk past the frame.
With the iconic, like, Bigfoot, like, looking over his shoulder. That lumber. Did I just see? Harry? Never mind.
I've got to get back to work. I thought I threw you out after you mated with my daughter. Oh, that's fine. How do you think you get all those Weekly World News stories? Gross.
So have you found Andy Serkis yet? Yeah. And he's dreamy. He doesn't look like a monkey. Well, that's what the CGI is for.
That's why they put white dots on him and stand in front of a blue screen. He doesn't have to look like anything, really. He just has to move in a fancy way. I mean, who is it? I have a friend who looks like Gollum.
Poor girl. Poor girl. Oh, my God. Gollette. We'll be nice and not call her out by name.
He does look like Gollum. Oh, that. Smeagol. That scares me more than anything, other than Dr. Phil.
God, don't let him in a movie, please. Dr. Phil and Gollum scare me more than anything. Those are healthy fears. I watched Return of the King last night, and all I wanted to do was just play with Smeagol.
Ugh. Really? Is that what you're thinking about? Yeah. Oh, that's hot.
Little hot smegalax. I don't know how to feel about this. I have a thing for cave dwellers. Well, that's awesome. Well, what does that say about you, Roger?
With a little tattered loincloth. I mean, okay. We can role play, baby. Whatever. Next thing you know.
Precious. I actually found a ring. I was at this little man-made lake in the middle of Kentucky, and I was just sitting on the beach playing. And I look down, and there's this gold ring with Elvin written on it, and I'm like, Oh, what? I immediately put it on, and I was.
Like, No one can see me. I have been chosen. Swam around like a mermaid for a while. I am the chosen one. You cannot touch my ring.
Precious. Precious. Actually, I do think I'm still more afraid of Dr. Phil. He blinks his eyes weird and he does that little finger thing like the kid in The Shining.
I hate that bastard. I don't even watch him enough to know what he does. I hate that bastard. Oh, Lord. All right.
I think that will round out the buzz. We will go into this week's fabulous Greedo Bloody Greedo interview. Yes. Nobody cares. No, yes.
No, yes. Oh, yes. Maria de Aragon. The reason for this trilogy of terror. So, yeah, we tracked her down and sat down with her.
She's actually, she was willing, surprisingly. Nice. She's actually really nice, and I didn't know what to expect going in, because, yeah, and I think a few of them I hadn't seen at the time, so I was asking her now about some very scandalous movies, I suppose. A few of them I was, yeah, and she took to answering the questions kind of well. At first, she's sort of taken aback, I think, that I even want to ask about some of these really old ones, but...
As she gets into it, yeah, she starts telling some of these stories about him. And then, of course, I have to round it out. Because usually, yeah, I talk to these people that have been in huge projects like Star Wars. So, I mean, everybody asks me about Star Wars. I usually don't have anything.
I kind of avoided it with Billy Dee Williams, too. It's like everybody's going to ask you about him. But sometimes I like to ask about the weirder, more of the effects on your life kind of thing. Yeah. So I did that with Billy Dee.
And with her, I was kind of like, well, up until the re-editing, the re-imagining that Lucas did years ago, it changed everything. And this big upheaval came along. And she sort of, her character sort of fell in the spotlight again and got a ton of amount of attention thrown upon it. To this day, people continually reference that. So I did go ahead and ask her about that.
I wanted to know what she thought about the... ridiculous amount of attention that has fallen upon the who shot first nonsense that came about john so yeah we will see uh what maria has to say more. Than just star wars kind of want to talk about the whole the whole acting career um it's uh difficult because. Of the fact that you know i haven't been in that of course, Star Wars in six years. And of course, my career, I think theater, And the 90s, I started to do other. Kinds of work.
And in 2000, I came back to Canada. And I've been in Canada four and a half years now. And Montreal, just one year. But that's where I was born. And it's family.
There's a lot of family here. And concerning, you know, my health, it's one of the first times in my life that I take time out of it for other people. Yeah. So I've not really been into career, career, you know. But now that I'm coming back into the conventions, hopefully some opportunities will come my way.
Yeah. And I'll definitely want to deal with that. As far as, like, early on, like, how did a girl from Quebec end up in the movies? Oh, well, wait a minute. I went there when I was 21 years old.
Yeah. Frank Sinatra had just married Mia Farrow. So it's quite a while back. I met a couple of people, Howard Codd, Sean Frankenheimer, and they put me in films with John Derrick and Ursula Anderson. Another film that I did have so many stars in it, George Kennedy, Sammy Davis, everybody was in the, you know.
And I just had a small part, but it was a fun film to do. And then I got real serious and someone approached me in acting class, Peter Carpenter, who became a producer. And I've made two, three films with him. And then we went to Manila and we did an adventure film called Wonder Women with Nancy Kwan. And, gosh, I'm trying to think of all these.
I've made about 10 to 12, 13 films. Yeah, I was looking back at some of the earlier ones. I was going to see what you remembered or if. You had any specific thoughts of Love Me Like I Do. Oh, yes.
Oh, yes, I have a copy of that. And it was probably my very first film. Yeah. And it was people who came from. Not strange, but far away, very far away.
Naturally, it was on the shelf for a lot of years until I did something. And they might have had, you know, the news about Greedo and said, oh, let's bring that back out. But it's not something, you know, that I regret. You have to learn somehow, somewhere to have film to present yourself. And....
From love me like I do to blood mania to. how was that working on that side oh blood mania was fun alex roffa was in that you know that and uh yeah no that was a good horror movie i. Mean it became sort of a classic for its time you know and uh But to say the truth, there was nothing, I prayed for a role that would be unforgettable. And I was thinking of Susan Flannery in Towering Inferno. Out the window, Robert Wagner's girlfriend for a minute, and never to be forgotten. So, sure enough, my prayer became answered, and I got a small part, and with the years learned that that small part was a very important film, a very important director.
And in 98, I believe, I met Derek, and he was at the Things from Another World at a science fiction shop, and I asked him for... action figures and told him that I played the role and from there we started the convention and made it I've gone all over the world for them and I enjoy it meeting the people sometimes three generations in one day yeah to be able to travel years later, you know. It's unusual to have it carry on this long. As far as the special edition, when they went back through, do you still get a lot of people asking about the whole who shot her? How do I feel about being the killer instead of the victim? Well, I love Harrison a lot, and I could understand from a point of view of a director... why he wouldn't want his hero to be a killer.
But as far as I'm concerned, I don't think it hurt me. I think it helped me. It definitely got a lot more attention. Or, you know, who's Greedo? What did he do?
Did he change? Oh, my God. So, yeah. Well, at first they cared about me because I was a victim. Then they cared about me because I really did took the job.
I did the job, yeah. That's interesting. All right. I wish my cap should. Come once in a lifetime or twice.
Maybe it's still coming. You never know. Another one still coming out? I'm ready. Well, we want to thank you for talking to us today, and it's been good.
Oh, my pleasure. Yep, definitely. Thank you. So thank you for talking to us, Maria, and that was pretty awesome. And we wanted to thank the people at Cool Waters Productions who actually helped us set up that discussion with Maria and basically made Greedo Bloody Greedo possible.
Word. So thank you to everyone involved. The world thanks you. Mm-hmm. So yeah, we'll have a little more of her stories later in the run.
I think that was most, she didn't go too much into today's movie, but, uh, the next few weeks, I think she's got a few snippets to pass on to us later, but I guess that will round out this first half of the here. We're going to go actually watch the first in the trilogy here and prepare ourselves for, uh, this week's sofa theater feature. Blood mania. Blood mania. But I'm going to try to tie in as many Greedo-related songs in this next series here.
So this one will go out on a song called Broken Greedo, which really has very little to do with the character or Maria herself. But I like the song, and it's kind of fun. Cool. All right. Once again, we invite you to come back and join us as we discuss Blood Mania.
Yay, come back. Please. Please. I saw you naked, it's time to go I. Screwed you girl, now it's time to go Now.
It's my chance to leave And. It's my time to go Now it's my time to go. . . . . . Now it's my chance to. Leave And it's my time. To go Now it's my time to go Time to go Now it's my time.
