About this episode
Attack of the Killer Soundtrack #10 - Attack of Wes Anderson! This week Movie Meltdown's Attack of the Killer Soundtrack is coming to you "live" from Wes Fest! Which was a large scale Wes Anderson theme party at The New Vintage. And this is a very special Attack episode, because it's the first time we've ever featured musicians actually performing their favorite songs from a soundtrack - LIVE right here on the show! It was an amazing line-up of bands and we captured our own version of the event and put together a terrific collection of songs featured in Wes Anderson's films. With music performed by Quiet Hollers, The Fervor, Billy Petot, Jolly Hammurabi, Dane Waters, Nick Peay and The Pass aka Hinckley Cold Storage. All right... enough with the words, just start listing to the songs!

Guess who? It's 10 o'clock. Do you care where your parents are? The following feature has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
This is not a drill. Repeat, this is not the drill. At this time, we are. Requesting the immediate and orderly evacuation of the vicinity. The Coast Guard and the Navy have been alerted and are standing by on the eastern seaboard.
And it continues to burn out of control. It has been regular. Every five to ten minutes, there has been another convoy of units, fire companies, paramedics... A citywide emergency has been declared. Police officers are still on tactical full alert.
2,000 National Guardsmen are standing by. Air defense warning read. It's time for Movie Meltdown's Attack of the Killers soundtrack. Live transmission has begun, and we're into the final. Hour of hell.
What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown's Attack of the Killers soundtrack. I am Brian and with me here is. Madeline. And where are we, Madeline? We're at Westfest at the New Vintage.
We are coming to you live via digital recording from the New Vintage. And we are, in fact, you're right, in the middle of Westfest. So how have you found yourself here? It's my birthday, and. My friend Lacey is coming to support her bandmate Mary Liz, who's playing in the fervor tonight.
And what was your first Wes Anderson movie? It was Royal Tenenbaums. Yes, it was. Secretly, when I wasn't supposed to be watching it from the other room while my parents were watching it. Still not sure you're allowed to watch it, really.
Probably not. All right, well, we're going to get a good feel for this whole event. As I put together this little spinoff show, this is kind of like the perfect place to set it because it's all about music and movies and how they sort of meld together into one big mess, and Wes Anderson seems to do that exceptionally well. So I think that's going to be the focus of this episode. And we're going to go find the creator...
So let's go talk to Heather. All right, so we're here with. The creator of West Fest, I guess, give them your name and how this all came to be. All right, my name is Heather Yenowin and I own a company called Hey DJ. And this isn't my first foray into theme parties.
I have done two Quentin Tarantino parties before and a New York 77 party. And this has been a dream for a long time. I found a collaborator named Stephanie Lindsay, who's a designer actually of the Bourbon Lodge at Fourcastle. And she wanted to do a West Fest party too, a Wes Anderson party. So.
We decided to combine our love and talent for throwing events and raise some money for a really worthy cause, which is the Fair Event Vendors Alliance, a new nonprofit that we're also both working on. Do we want to go into more on that or give at least the info on that if people want to find out about it? Yeah, it's an upcoming nonprofit that we're forming now, and it's designed to connect the LGBT community with wedding and event vendors who stand for fairness and equality. so that they don't have to go through the arduous process of trying to vet vendors and see their comfort levels. And also, just on a citywide level, it's a way to reinvest in Louisville and support the community and keep valuable wedding business here in our local city.
Do you have the site up and running yet? Well, the site's up. It's fairvendors.org, but more is coming. It's just an introduction page at this point, but we're in development, and we have a lot of top-notch wedding vendors ready to get involved. Very cool.
And then I guess this project here, is this part of your ongoing thing? Do you want to tell people where to find you as far as like how to see what you've got going on in the future? Well, right now, West Fest has been my biggest focus and then I'll be back in wedding season. But, you know, that's what I do most of the time. But I think that you can definitely see more parties coming as I have a reason to throw them again, you know, which is Viva.
So, yeah. You know, theme parties. We've got a John Waters party we've been thinking about for a few years. I'm all for that one. Yeah, and I think that might tie in really well with it being an LGBT cause and kind of celebrate that.
For now, though, we just thought, man, Wes Anderson has got such a cool vibe to it. The music's so great and the decor is so amazing that we wanted to kind of create a special moment. We're going to be covering such a range with the Velvet Underground, Francois Hardy, David Bowie, the Kinks. It's going to be a very dynamic, textured evening of music. All right, well, then let's get into the music.
All right, let's have a party. How you guys doing tonight? In the middle of the night. In the middle of the night I call your name. Oh, yeah, I'll go.
Oh, yeah, I'll go. My life will turn you on. In the middle of the bath. In the middle of the bath, I'll call your name. Yeah, oh, yeah.
My love. In the middle of a shade. In the middle of. A shade I'll call your name. Oh, Yoko Oh.
Yoko My love. Will turn you. On In the middle of a dream. In the middle of a dream I'll call your name. Oh, yeah, I'll call Oh, yeah, I'll call My love will turn you.
On In the middle of a cloud. In the middle of a cloud I call your name. Oh, Yoko. Oh, Yoko. Thank you guys very much.
Great to be here tonight. All right, so we kick things off. there with Oyoko from The Quiet Hollers, as originally featured in Wes's film Rushmore. And I thought maybe we should learn a little bit about the music. And musicians involved in tonight's festival. So now, let's go talk to Sarah.
All right, so we're here with Sarah from the fabulous Ladybirds. So, yeah, I guess first tell them who you are, other than that, if you'd like, or go ahead and plug the band, because you guys are awesome. Cool. Oh, thank you. I'm so many things.
No, I'm just kidding. So my name is Sarah Teeple, and I sing in a band called the Ladybirds with my fabulous husband, Jackson Swain, and three other awesome dudes, Max Balliet, Anthony Fossiluza, and Brett Holsclaw. And so we do that and love that. But here tonight at West Fest, I'm here in the capacity of of music curator and coordinator, along with the awesome Heather Yenowen, who also was definitely major coordinator of all and everything. So, yeah.
All right. I guess, how did you get roped into this craziness? How'd they convince me to do this? Um, well, I've worked many times with, uh, both Heather and Sydney, who I think are two of the most awesome event producers in this town. Um, both just like super talented go-getter ladies.
Like if they're doing an event here in Louisville, you know, it's going to be just like, uh, total the, the full shebang. They spare no creative energy and, um, you know, just, they're always really great. Um, the Ladybirds have done a couple of their events, uh, A Quentin Tarantino-themed one some years back at Glassworks called Killville. And then one at the Vernon, maybe about four years back, called New York 77. So I know how capable and great these ladies are.
So glad to be a part of it again this year. And you are officially or unofficially the music coordinator? I would say semi-officially. And I say that just because, well, that was the title that I was given and that was, I was asked to be part of this in that capacity. But then Heather has just done so much that I don't feel like I can claim that title totally for myself.
Don't argue with Heather. Yeah, well, and don't argue with the fact that like she's like multitasker extraordinaire and just like, does everything I'm like oh let me help with that and she's like oh I already I already took care of that like whoa all right mama not gonna argue. I find that annoying as someone who's usually working on 12 things at once and can't get any of them done that's really the people that are that skilled at that are kind of they get under your skin don't they you're. Like you're like your type a personality is more powerful than my type a personality and then it's like a duel maybe. I don't know if I'm type a I'm just I like controlling things that's egomaniacal anyway that's a whole nother thing But I guess, do you want to tell people about the bands that we have brought in on this little event?
Absolutely. Well, we wanted to, because the music in these films is so diverse and so varied and all so phenomenal, we wanted to bring in a bunch of different types of Louisville bands, as well as some soloists, because the dynamics is very diverse. it's a wide range of, you know, like intensity. So we think we've, we've tried to reflect all of that. We were really excited to get the Quiet Hollers who are going to start off with the night, you know, their, their brand of like kind of dirty Americana, you know, they're all like these awesome Magbar punk. Rockers and they're so great.
And, you know, so to hear them do like songs like Oh Yoko, you know, I feel like they, um, They're more along the lines of the Hank Williams, but I feel like they've really gone out on a limb and gone out of their comfort zone, and it's sounding awesome so far, so I can't. Wait to hear what they do live. I was super pumped to hear that they were doing the Proclaimers Over and Done With song. I feel like that's really in the vein of what they're They're into, and it's just such a good song. So excited to see how that one gets pulled off.
Other than that, I guess I could go band by band. I'm very excited to see the Jolly Hammurabi dudes because their set list is awesome and because I've never seen them before. We just heard about them through some other great Louisville musicians, and they're young guys, a lot of energy, and we're excited to see what they pull off. The Fervor is one of my favorite Louisville bands. And I'm not just being biased because they also have a female lead singer like the Ladybirds.
But Natalie and Ben Felker, Matt Heron, Mary Liz Brannon, they're just like totally awesome and so good and haven't played. Out too, too much lately. So it's great that they could do this. I'm really excited to hear their their Nico and Velvet Underground like they're as far as the vibe of their set is just. So good.
And I can't wait to hear that. And then obviously we got the lovely Dane Waters doing Francoise Hardy and Stones playing with fire. And she is just like the muse of a lifetime, like gorgeous woman. Hearing her sing in French is like, you know, just hot. No matter who you are, you're going to fall in love with this lady.
You can't fight it. I know you can't. And so then we're closing the night. with The Pass, who are playing under the name Hinkley Cold Storage. And so they're going to be awesome, and they really are going out of their comfort zone, too. You know, like, these, like, electronic dance music dudes.
I mean, they're, you know, they got guitar, and they're rockers as well. But their set list is really, like, kind of surprising for them. And they are really busy this season with just a bunch of shows, traveling around. So the fact that they made this a priority is pretty banging. Mm-hmm.
So again, now having coordinated some events, not quite of this caliber, but I started doing the math on all this. I'm like, okay, so how much of an undertaking was it to put the set list together so that everybody's not trying to cover the same songs and you're figuring out what works with what band? Totally. That is a really good question. And that is one thing that Heather and I discussed at length. like when we were choosing the bands and just kind of setting up the entire thing.
And, you know, with a little bit of guidance from us, the bands like could actually really choose their own stuff, you know, like with a little bit of direction, everyone could really choose their own songs that they were into. And no one, you know, there was no like hair pulling or fist fights. And everyone, I think, was really cool with the songs that they got to play. But yeah, I mean, just knowing these soundtracks. It's like you could see how two different bands could easily be vying over the same song.
But surprisingly, that was very civil. It was totally cool. Until later when you realize you really wanted to do something, you're going to shove somebody out of the way and get up there, aren't you? Absolutely, yeah. I mean, the night is young, and, you know, there's still plenty of band beer to be drank, and, you know, you never know.
But I think, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, I think it's going to be all good. We'll try to keep you under control. Well, so far, Sarah's controlled herself. But I thought at this point we would go ahead and listen to another song, what I feel is one of the more impressive covers of the evening. It was originally featured in the Royal Tenenbaums, and you'll probably recognize the song, but I feel like the way that they do it is original and kind of has their own flair to it.
So this is the previously mentioned The Pass, a.k.a. Inkley Cold Storage. This one's a sing-along. Sing if you know the words. Thank you.
Mama put John to roll out of bed, ran to the police station. Papa found out, he began to shout and started the investigation. It was against the law. It was against the law. When my mama saw, it was.
Against the law. I'm on my way. I don't know where I'm going. I'm taking the time to turn around Goodbye Rosie Queen of Corona You need Julio down by the school yard. You need Julio down by.
The school yard guitar solo Thank you. Oh, it was a couple of days, now take me away, but the press let the story leak. Little radical priest, when we. Came to release, he was all on the cover of Newsweek. Well, I'm on my way, I don't know where I'm going.
I'm on my way. My way. I'm taking my time but I don't know where Goodbye Rosie, you created Corona. You made Julio town by the school yard. You meet Julio down by the schoolyard.

Hey guys, it's the repeater from Tower of Technobabble and we're getting ready to do our next show and I thought it might be cool for you to look behind the scenes and see how the magic happens. In fact, Conduit is getting Towerbot ready. right now as we speak. We was hitchhiking down a long and lonesome road. All of a sudden, there. Shined a shiny demon in the middle of the road.
And he said. Hey, this is KG of Tenacious D, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown with Brian. Oh, yeah. It's time for the Killer Five. So I guess we will usually throw out the Killer Five and let somebody pick their five favorite songs or songs that had some sort of meaning to them.
And this being the West-themed event, I thought we'll do a West-themed songs from his movies. So I guess, where would you like to go? You can do it in however order you. Want, but I guess give us a little reason as to why for each song. Awesome.
Well, I love this question and I will answer it. So there are so many just phenomenal songs that we're going to hear tonight. And, you know, Wes Anderson, I mean, I don't, I actually should know this, but I don't know who the like music coordinator is for his movies. I'm sure that he has a huge hand in it. And I mean, it's, you know, it's unbeatable.
You know, he's got like really classic bands and some, you know, A-sides, some Stones songs that you know, but then like some really weird B-sides that you wouldn't think that are, you know, very unexpected. He's an eclectic guy. I mean, in his movies and obviously in his soundtrack choices. Totally, yes. Visually, sonically, you know, in every way you can be weird.
I think that he achieves it. So just for me personally, with my band, personal favorite style of music um my big five would be numero uno is definitely search and destroy by iggy and the stooges um just because iggy and the stooges are amazing you know that like just dirty grungy garage protopunk is just kind of unbeatable you know. It is one of those somebody brought up late because we were discussing something about like early early punk and it was like they mentioned the date on some of the iggy stuff and how. Ahead of their time they were like it was amazing Absolutely. Yeah.
You hear it and think like, wow, maybe like mid 70s or who even knows? Who knows what you would think? It could be even way more contemporary than that. But then, you know, when you hear like mid and late 60s, it's like just insane. You just wouldn't think that.
But so anyway, Iggy and the Stooges are the bomb. So I'm really excited to hear the fervor finish their set with the old Search and Destroy. I'm a street-walking cheetah with a heart full of napalm. I'm the one-way sun of. The nuclear era.
I am the world's forgotten boy, the one who searches and destroys. Honey, gotta help me to leave. Somebody gotta save my girl. Baby, better check my mind. Who got honey, cookies, and technology?
Ain't got time to make no apologies Soul radiation in the dead of night Love in the middle of a firefight. Somebody gotta help me please Somebody gotta. Save my soul Baby, penetrate my mind. Hey! Hey!
I ain't got. Time to make no apologies. Soul radiation in the. Dead of night. Love in the middle of a firefight.
Honey, God, help me please. Somebody gotta save my soul. Maybe penetrate my mind. The world's forgotten boy The one. Who's searching to destroy The.
World's forgotten boy Searching, searching to destroy Forgotten boy Thank you. So much. To bring it to a little more mellow, feminine side, I also adore Francoise Hardy. You know, 60s French pop is just yummy and fun and so wonderful. So I can't wait to hear Dane play.
Le Tome de l'Amour, and I might not be pronouncing that right. Spanish is my second language, not French. So that's going to be beautiful, and Dane always delivers. Are there subtitles on this? I know, yeah.
I should be up there with the cards, like in Subterranean Homesick Blues. I only speak American. American, that's right. That's my first language, obviously, ladies and gentlemen. Sing it down tonight.
It's the turn of. The moon, the turn of the caravan, it's your adventure. When you wake up, you don't think about anything else but yourself. Because the turn of the moon is so long and so. Short, it's always hard to be sensual.
On se dit qu' à 20. Ans, on a le bras du monde Et qu'il t'aime à l'aimant, en or et dans nos yeux, tout. Le siècle C'est le. Temps de l'amour, le temps des copains et de l'aventure When the sun goes down, I don't think about anything but. The grace of the sun.
When the time of the night is. Long, it always turns into a memory. One day, love is the only thing that can live. I love you so much, I'm so happy to be in love. Because the time of love is so long and so short, it goes by so fast.
Because the time of love is so long and so short, it lasts forever. Thank you. Much thanks for the favor. Then to move on, I already kind of mentioned this, but man, I'm so pumped to see the Quiet Hollers play Over and Done With by the Proclaimers. I just think that is like such a fun, feel-good song.
I love the way it kind of starts out nice and slow and acoustic-y, then just kind of busts into it. And it's just, it's triumphant, you know? Thank you. Thank you. This is the story of our first teacher Shetland made her jumpers and the devil made her feature Threw.
Up her hands when my mum said her name. And voided all her stories with slanderous claims. It's over and done with, it's over and done with It's over and done with, it's over and done with It's over and done with. It's over. It's over.
It's over and done with. Let me hear. Let me hear you, Nick Goldberg. It's over and done with. It's over and done with.
It's over and done with. It's over and done with. It's over and done with. It's over. It's over.
It's over and done with. And I'm not saying these events didn't touch our lives in any way, but. I didn't make. The impression that some people see. And this is the story of watching a man die.
The subject's unpopular, but I don't feel like lying when I think of it now. I acted like a sinner. I just washed my hands and I went for my dinner. Mutton, mushy peas and a pint of Guinness. It's over and done with.
It's over and done with. It's over and done with. It's over and done with. It's over and done with. It's over and done with.
It's over and done with. It's over, it's over, it's over and done with. It's over, it's over, it's over and done with. It's over, it's over, it's over and over and over and over. Thank you guys very much.
We're Quiet Hollers. We'll see you another time. Judy is a Punk by the Ramones. That's going to be performed by Jolly Hammurabi. That's going to be their opening song.
And they better deliver. I'm sure they will. But you know, that song is just iconic and awesome. And if that song doesn't make you feel good, then you're probably a cold, dead. Alien or something.
Might be the case. You know. I just like your threat. They better deliver. Ooh, yeah.
That's right. It's a threat. Are you guys ready for us to play? No! All right.
Well, we are Jolly Hammurabi. This is our first show ever. So I am very, very stoked to be playing in. Front of such an. Eclectic group of people.
You guys are styling. So, anyway. Okay. We love Wes Craven. We're huge fans of the Scream movies.
So therefore, we're gonna go ahead and just. Jackie in the pool, Judy in the room. They're both independent and I'm the man. Oh, I don't know why. Oh, I don't know why.
Perhaps he'll die. Oh, yeah. Perhaps he'll die. Oh, yeah. Perhaps he'll.
Die. Oh, yeah. Perhaps he'll die. Oh, yeah. Oh, I don't know why.
Oh, I don't know why. Perhaps he'll die. Oh, I don't know why Oh, I. Don't know why Oh, I don't know why I have to die Oh yeah, I have to. Die Oh yeah, I have to die Oh yeah, I have to die Oh.
Yeah One, two, three, four! Jackie is a pro! Judy is a pro! I'd plan our next trip. And then, I guess, fifth, I would say I'm really excited to hear Billy Pito play Rebel Rebel, the So George version of the Bowie song.
And, you know, really, though, not just Rebel Rebel, all of these Bowie songs in Portuguese, acoustically, by a blonde-haired white guy, you know, it's just, it's going to be really fun. So I'm really excited to hear that and hear what Billy does. Very nice. Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do . A gory day is starting to end.
Hey, baby, you're winning. Pass the moon, pick a case of you. A man's a young man with a vision child. A pirate's a young pirate's son. Zero, zero, I'm moving.
You're a molecule, I'm going to go. Zero, zero, you win, you pass more than I know you. You don't know, you don't. Know, Poco importa si el dinero es suyo Hey, baby, es que es bello ligar Y ver un nenga feliz nadar Se que poco mas poco, todo bien Agorra y desistana una vez Hey, baby, for saving say you. But say I'm on take a case of you.
I don't mind my chicken person child. But a resume will do a better sale. Do do do do do do do do. Thank y'all. Already we got ice breaking on the curb.
This is, it's already shaping up to be a good night back here. It's out of control. Well, I guess if nothing else, I want to thank you for, for giving us all these, uh, these songs to work with. And, uh, Go ahead. Plug your band, too.
Oh, so this West Fest is great. And you know what else is great? The Ladybirds. Five-piece female-fronted rock and roll band from Louisville, Kentucky. We do have our next show, guys, at Headliners on Oaks Night.
We'll be opening for the iconic, one of my favorite women in the world, Wanda Jackson. And it's going to be a great way to kick off Derby weekend. So I'm super pumped to share it with y'all. I've seen Wanda. She's amazing.
Talk about, again, people, groundbreaking. Amazing. So, yeah, you love Wanda, I'm sure. Yes, in love with her, and it'll be our third time playing with her. And we're just, third time is a charm.
It's going to be totally awesome. And thank you for having me, for interviewing me. I appreciate it. No problem. Thank you for coming on the show.

Doo-Wop Shop. We're serious about music. Well, I came to Benjamin Britten's music through my school and church production of Noise Flüde. when I was in fourth grade, when I was like ten. A fluta, maybe you say. And there was a production combining the school and the church, and it was a kind of huge event for us.
And my older brother and I, I was an otter, my older brother was an elk. I never forgot these, the hymns and the various pieces that form this wonderful opera play have never left me since and so in this film that I've just made we wanted to recreate, we recreated some moments that I remember from this production and then I started to include Britten music throughout the whole film and really set the film to Britten's music. The young person's guide to the orchestra really became the musical backbone of our story. And as we went along, I added more and more Britten music. Some pieces that I knew already, Midsummer Night's Dream, and some I had never heard before, some music written for children in particular.
That I had not heard before. So it became sort of the central musical element of this story. I'm Dee Snyder from Twisted Sister, writer, star of Strangeland. Radio, TV, you know me. And you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
Yeah. This is our life. This is our song. Hey, look who it is. It's Jen.
Hi. Most recently from our Dead People episode. Yep. So my question of the night is, what was your first Wes Anderson movie? Royal Tenenbaums.
And what was your reaction to his style? I liked it. It was oddly creative. Do you remember having a connection to the music in some way? Yes.
I do. Although now I can't name a single song off of that movie, but. Yes. Did you ever expect to find yourself in the middle of this crazy Wes Anderson festival? No.
Not at all, actually. And yet here I am, because I made art. It's kind of crazy. Yeah, it is. There's a lot of people here.
I didn't expect asses to elbows. There's a lot of people. But that's a good thing. That's a great thing. It's good for them.
And as my friend said, apparently in Louisville everyone likes to dress up. We really do. I've kind of noticed that before, but no matter what, they'll want to dress up for something. Apparently this is Halloween town. I think it is.
I get to be Jack Skellington. That's all right. I like the other one. I don't remember her name either because I'm bad at that stuff. Sally?
Yeah, there it is. It's the overall impressions that stick with me. But oddly, the little names, troublesome. You might be Shock. I don't know.
Maybe. I don't know. I might be. All right. I accept that.
All right. I guess we'll get back to the party in here. Okay. Or I'm going to go stand by the soundboard over here. I'm just trying to stay out of the way.
That is a lot of what's going on here. Ladies and gentlemen, Nick Paye. A hand on his arm, a stacked charm around your neck. Strung out of fear, causing friends, trying to cash some check. He's acting dumb, that's what you come to expect.
Needle in the hand Needle in the hand Needle in the hand Needle in the hand Swearing your clothes, head down your toes. The reaction that you say you know what he did. But you idiot kid, you don't have a clue. Sometimes you just get caught in the eye. You're pulling him through.
Needle in the hay. Needle in the hay. Needle in the hay. Needle in the. Hand And now on the bus, nearly touching this dirty retreat.
Falling out, six-time. Pile of dead sweat in my teeth. Gonna walk, walk, walk four more blocks plus the one in my brain. Down, downstairs to the man. He's gonna make it all again.
I can't be myself. I can't be myself. And I don't want to talk. I'm taking the cure so I can be quiet whenever I want. So leave me alone.
I'm gonna be. Proud that I'm getting good marks. Needle in the hay. Needle in the hay. Needle in the hay Needle in the hay Needle in the hay Needle in the hay Needle in the hay Needle in the hay.
I'll be out back. I'm going to find a tree to chop down. I've been out walking I don't do too much talking these days. These days I like to think a lot about the things that I forgot to do. And all the time I have the chance.
I've stopped my rambling. I don't do too much gambling these days These days These days I seem to think about how all the changes came about. My ways. And I wonder if I'll see another highway. I had a lover.
I don't think I'll risk another. These days. And if I seem to be afraid to live the life that I have made in. Song It's just that I've. Been losing.
La la la la la. La la. I've stopped my dreaming. I won't do too much dreaming these days. These days I seem to think a lot About the things that I forgot to do Please don't confront me with my failures.
I have forgotten. Thanks! Ben and I decided that we clearly didn't ingest enough heroin to do these songs. I can sit alone And be doing just fine Till I hear an old phrase Coming down the line. And I hurry straight Home and pack If I didn't.
Go I believe I'd blow. My stack I love you baby But you gotta understand When the Lord made me. He made a rain of rain. Guitar solo. Might say that I'm no good that I.
Wouldn't settle down. If I could cause when. That open road starts to. Call me it's something over the hill I've got to say Sometimes it's hard, but you got to understand, when. The Lord made me.
He made a real little man out like you. I love to see the clouds passing. By And to ride these rails in God's blue sky Let me travel this little. Land from the mountains to the seas, cause that's the life I believe. Amen.
And when I'm. Gone, and it's my grave you stand, just say God's called. You're ready. so so. Thank you, guys. All right, so there was a double shot of what may or may not have been heroin-inducing songs, but I did feel like they worked well together.
First up, we had Nico's These Days, performed by The Fervor, and was originally a very character-defining. Moment in the Royal Tenenbaums. And we followed that up with Rambling Man, originally featured in Moonrise Kingdom, but done here tonight, once again, by the Quiet Hollers. Now next up, we're going to go with one that has a very distinctive Wes Anderson vibe to it. It's one that I think may have been one of the harder songs to cover tonight, but it is done very well by, once again, The Pass, a.k.a.
Thanks, guys. We're Hinkley's Cold Storage. So now let's listen to them perform the Life Aquatic Diving Theme. So so. Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. All right, thank you. What'd he say?
He says the train's lost. How can a train be lost? It's on rails. Apparently we took a wrong turn at some point last night. That's crazy.
How far off course are we? Nobody knows. We haven't located us yet. What'd you just say? What?
What you just said. Say it again. We haven't located us yet. Ah! Is that symbolic?
We haven't located us yet. This is a Peter Sarstedt tune. I hope we have enough room here. You talk like Marlena Dietrich And you dance like Zizi Zahman Your clothes are all made by Balmain There's diamonds and. Pearls in your hair.
Yes, there are. You live in a fancy apartment at the Boulevard Saint-Michel where you keep your Rolling Stones record and a friend of Sasha Distel. Yes, you do. Go to the embassy parties You talk in Russian and Greek You dwell men who walk in your circles They hang on every word that you speak Yes. They do.
Where do you go to my lovely. When you're alone in your bed. Tell me the thoughts that surround you. I want to get inside your head. Yes, I do.
Involve your qualifications that you got at the sore bone. You said you'd go far from Picasso. Well, your loveliness goes on and on. Yes, it does. Could you do some more vacation?
You go to Ju-on-o-Mao. Would you carefully design topless swimsuits? You get an even suntan on your back and on your lips. When the snow falls, you're found in St. Maureen.
When the doves of the jet set. And you sip your Napoleon brandy. But you never get your lips wet. No, you don't. But where do you go to, my lovely, when you're alone in your bed?
Tell me the thoughts that surround you. I want to look inside your head. Yes, I do. I can't remember the first to this. Part But you're lovely the way that you are So I'll just hang up on these words Cause I.
Can't remember this part Where do you go to my lovely. When you're alone in your bed. Tell me the thoughts that surround you I. Want to look inside. Your head, yes I do.
I remember the back streets of Naples Two children begging in wrath Both touched with the burning ambition To shake off their lonely born. Tacks and they try. So look into my face Marie Claire And tell me what do you see Then go and forgive me forever But I know you still bear the scars deep inside. But where do you go. To my lovely when you're alone in your bed tell me the thoughts that surround.
You I wanna look inside your head. All right, you all. West Fest is concluded with the bands, but let's dance. All right. Well, the dance party has started, so I guess I better get out of here.
I mean, really, think about it. Wes Anderson fans dancing so many But it was a great success tonight, if I heard correctly. They sold the place out. So congratulations to Heather. The place was packed.
The bands were great. Everybody was having fun. So I'd say tonight was a success. And I think if nothing else, we put together a great soundtrack of our own. Sort of a best of Wes Anderson kind of a thing.
So hopefully you enjoyed it. Thank you once again to Heather for putting it together and for getting me involved and basically letting me hang out there all night. And thank you once again to Sarah for breaking down the songs tonight and introducing us to some of the bands they had on hand. But as we come to a close here, I thought it only fitting that we let the creator of this event round things out. So here's Heather again to bring us our final song.
Thank you once again for listening. And with that, I will remind you, get a life and we'll provide the soundtrack. I guess just to tie in the movies and the music, what was the first Wes Anderson movie you saw? And then did the music click then? Or what was the big music moment in conjunction with it?
My favorite is Rushmore, which is his second film. And I would say that the song that stuck out most to me was Ooh La La by The Faces. And the movie ends with that song. And we're actually going to be ending West Fest with that song as well. It's a song that I DJ with often.
I think it embodies the feel-good vibes of a lot of this music. Oh, good night. He laughed at all his words I thought he was a bitter man He spoke women's. Ways He trapped you and he used you Before you even know Love is blind and soon you'll find Just don't let. It show.
I wish that I knew what I know now When I was younger I wish that I knew what I know now We're no stronger. You can't care. Such a pretty show. Steal your heart away. Backstage, back on earth again.
The dressing rooms are gray. You're strong. You've been too long for me. love is blind soon you'll find just a boy I can't I wish that I knew what I know now when. I was younger I wish that. I knew what I know now when I was younger guitar solo so.
So Wanna kiss, you get a cheek Makes you wonder where you are Try for more, just pass the sweet, twinkle in the stars. Poor young grasshopper, there's nothing I can say. You have to learn, just like. Me, that's the hardest way. Wish that I knew what I know now.
When I was younger I wished that I knew what I know now When I was stronger I wished that I knew what I know now When I was younger I wished that I knew what I know now When. I was stronger Thank you. I knew what I. Know now When I was younger I wish that I knew what I know now When I was younger Ooh. Thanks so much.
Does anyone have a small bag of heroin for sale? Like a $ 15 bag. You all probably didn't know I can speak English, but I'm American. And can I see a demonstration of your badger face, please? Turn around and do it for the whole crowd.
Thanks, we totally wrote that one. David Bowie, who the fuck is he? Can we get the shark jaguar down from the bar, please? And award it. To Wes Anderson, the man of the hour, everybody.
The man of the hour. Everybody's feeling Wes Anderson tonight. Thank you. Wait till you see your fucking prize, dude. Kelsey needs a bunch of stuff back here.
Anything you can give her. It's not the amount of heroin you do, folks. You guys ever felt like there's a. You ever feel the man just hovering over your back shoulder? Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
That's what I'm talking about. You know what I'm talking about. So this song's kind of about that. Hey, thanks for everybody that put this on. This thing is pretty fucking badass, if I do say so myself.
You guys are great. Thank you so much for being here. The whole Wes Craven thing was a joke. I know it's Wes Anderson. This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and edited by The Oddity Studios.
