So, yesterday as I was roaming around looking for a movie that will be on an upcoming episode, I found some other ones and I'm like, alright, what do we want to talk about? So, our next movie threat could very well be Scar 3D. Like from The Lion King? I wish, because that's the only part I like about The Lion King. I know everyone else loves The Lion King, and I'm blown in this, but I, number one, just didn't really care about the movie in general.
Number two, I worked at a place that played the theme song on a loop, so I kind of still hold a grudge against Elton John. It's not his fault, but they just, every 20 minutes I heard Can You Feel the Love Tonight again, so it's not his fault. I like some old stuff from him, but I want to strangle him for Lion King songs. And then on top of that, yeah, I just wasn't thrilled with it until I started playing it in the store. And I was like, oh, man, this Nazi scene is pretty badass.
Not that I'm in support of that, but I'm like, the fact that they went there, I'm like, oh, no, it is. I mean, they're goose stepping. It's Hyena's goose stepping. I was like, he's up on a dais, like giving them a speech. I was like, this is pretty fucking hardcore for a Disney movie, so.
And just in general, he's like a mean bastard. And I'm like, I gotta like this guy. Allegedly, Disney's not unfamiliar with them. True. That's also going back to the olden days.
And when we thaw him out, we can ask him about that. But for now, he would love it right now. Probably would. Also, give him bonus points. It's Probably the only Disney movie that has a reversal of fortune inside joke.
Again, how deep cut is that? Because you guys may not know what I'm talking about. I have no clue. But the movie, a movie or two before The Lion King came out that Jeremy Irons is in where he's like tried to murder his wife and is on trial. And the line in it, and again, his delivery is amazing.
They're talking about how... peculiar a man he is when he's on the stand and he's like his response in Jeremy Irons true fashion you have no idea and Scar says that to little what's his face Simba when he's like you're weird Uncle Scar and he's like you have no idea and I was like alright that's pretty badass so again Scar the only things I took that I like from that anyway but. This Scar not the movie. I am about to read Well, Cheech, you can't, you know, overlook Cheech's performance. I mean, Cheech is always fun, you know. Okay, in the small town of Ovid, Colorado, Joan awakens in the basement of a morgue of Ernie Bishop, a local undertaker who secretly tortures, mutilates, and kills teenage girls.
Before becoming Bishop's latest victim, Joan manages to kill him and. Escape with her life. 16 years later, still bearing the scars of her torment, Joan returns to her hometown in time to see her niece be crowned prom queen. Soon after Joan's arrival, murders by an alleged copycat killer begin targeting Olympia and her girlfriends, which is her niece. And the police investigate...
That's way too much information. I know, this is a lot. And the police investigation unfolds. All clues lead back to the mentally fragile Joan who must clear her name, rescue Olympia, and confront the gruesome and barbaric killer before it is too late. Spoilers for the back.
Of the box. Yeah, that's like the entire plot. Okay. So we don't need to watch that. But the most important part is this DVD came with two pairs of 3D glasses, which I'm sure we're missing from this used copy.
Sup? I have a box of 3D glasses. But I don't know, again, I guess you have to know which ones. Are they like cool, timey ones where it's. Like blue and red?
The ones I have are the cool, timey ones. As it should be. But I feel like all the ones they made in that second wave, like starting late 90s into the mid-2000s, were all like the gray, brown-looking, boring-ass ones. Well, I'm looking at a website that sells Scar 3D. On Blu-ray.
But it's in German. That's reassuring. And it doesn't, I can't, I'm not seeing any pictures. Speaking of Nazis. But, I mean, I'm in just based on the cover artwork alone.
I mean, this tells you that this is a movie. Of high caliber. See if that's the one I was looking at. That's not even the one I was looking at. That guy looks goofy.
As a goofy murderer. That's why you want to see this movie. You love goofy movies. For those of you at home, the... He just has a screaming face with scars.
Yeah, I found a bunch of those. This has a man standing over a lady who's bloody, and it looks like she's on one of those more drawer thingies. Sleighty drawers? Yeah. Cool.
But he's dressed in black. Well, I'll save that for the last. The look on his face says he does not get enough fiber in his diet. That's a problem, by the way. He's got a gloved hand that looks like it's holding something also bloody that I can't really tell what it says.
But the thingy de resistance here is that he is wearing a black beret. Hmm. Sure this isn't French? I mean, we can only hope. He also had a baguette, you would know for sure.
Because if I'm murdering people, I'm going to soak up the blood with the baguette. They're very absorbent. There's a lot of bread there. Includes two pairs of 3D glasses. Some wounds never heal.
I believe that was on the same one. That was on the box I saw. On this website, we can get... Okay, this is interesting. On this website, we can get it on DVD for $ 9.
99, but we can also get it on Blu-ray for $ 4. 47, which somehow seems backwards to me. Some people don't have that fancy technology. I just pointed that out, and people want to complain, or at least argue, because anything on the internet, people want to argue. even when it's the dumbest or most obvious statement, like no matter what you say, somebody's going to come back in the comments with a, but like they're just every time. So I pointed this out.
So now's a good enough time to bring it up. I'm assuming if you have internet and follow any movie related stuff, eventually the criterion closet stuff has popped up on your feed in a criterion closet where they welcome in famous actors and directors. There are tons of criterion movies to, and they give them a bag and they load up and take like five or 10 home with them. There are DVDs in there. And I just noticed, I mean, it's always been there, but I just stopped and went, wait.
So anyone you've invited in here is rich and famous enough to be invited in, but doesn't have a Blu-ray player. It's like, that to me is weird. Because yes, I'm assuming there are many old things that are out of print on Blu-ray and you could only get on DVD. But I feel like the whole point of it is, promoting things that are currently available so i think everything in the traveling closet is just like here's new stuff that we're putting out right now as a commercial to go buy this stuff that's on the shelf behind them so i don't think it's out of print stuff so who is this world famous director that doesn't own a blu-ray player probably more than you'd think thank god i've got my janky old dvd player that i can watch this masterpiece on dvd.
There was an article, I mean, it's been probably 10 years or more now, but the technology existed. And the whole thing was about how rich people are out of touch, sometimes with the latest technology, even though you'd think they'd be the first ones to adapt it. Their evidence of that was an interview with Eminem, who was proudly showing off his giant room of porn DVDs. Sure. And the interviewer pointed out, you know you can just watch all this online now.
Huh? Yeah, exactly. I mean, or what? So they had to explain. To him how to access online pornography.
Wow. That is out of the loop. Because that's been around for a while. They were like, day one, here's the internet. Day two, look at all this porn.
Like I say, this was an older article, but even at that time. Yeah. That's weird. Yeah. But I would think, again, people, specifically there's a lot of directors.
I feel like directors are kind of hardcore about the specifics of theirs. They would want. You'd think that. Would be in their contract somewhere that the studio would give them a DVD or. A Blu-ray player.
I want a Blu-ray player and a bunch of Blu-rays from your studio since I signed this dumb contract with you. So you would think. I don't know. I just thought that was funny when I stopped and thought about it. I was like, that almost makes no sense.
And regardless, people wanted to be in the comments going, no, cuz. And I'm like, whatever. I'm just making a stupid comment. You don't really have to go to the mat for it. I don't give a rat's ass.
I just thought it was funny. Ah, the internet. Oh, yeah. Good times, good times. That's the place you can hear us say ridiculous things like this.
There's one thing that always bugs me, and it's that they've clearly been in there for several weeks, maybe a month, maybe even more, and all of a sudden they find some weird spot that That's in a part of the house that they've clearly been working on and there's bugs crawling out of it. And how that goes unnoticed, I have no idea. I would think that would be day one stuff. Yeah. Every other day you just walk past the orifice that's oozing flies.
But today you're like, ah, damn, I guess I got to address that. One of them it becomes clear is an actor who has been planted because she like runs off into the woods and then there's this whole like fake storyline about where everybody else is supposed to like be concerned that she left but it seems like they all kind of know she's an actor That actually. Kind of makes sense so far. Layers upon layers. Yes, and so then one of the other contestants finds her body later, but it's like, well, she also has to be an actor because if you actually thought that you found a dead body, you'd be freaking out.
You'd be a little upset, I would hope. You'd be like, we need to call the cops. I would need new pants at the least. Like, I think I'm impressed with how much they've stuck to the ghetto-ness of this movie. Like, it's still not a fancy movie.
Like, it can't be. And that's, I think, a lot of complaints I heard was just like, well, it's not as bare bones mess that the original one was, which was its own charm. Yeah. Versus it's not a multi-million dollar flashy movie, so why am I watching this? So I'm like, I don't know.
I kind of like where it lands in the middle. I will say the first couple minutes, I think I actually said, oh, it's scary stuff's happening in the house and the kid's drawing pictures of it. I've never seen that before. That's the part I was like, here's the list I started making of movies. The kid draws scary pictures with their crayons.
Which, by the way, if your kid draws pictures at all, call a priest. Just go ahead and call a priest. Especially those pictures. No, even if you have those... Put them on the refrigerator.
I want to see the cool crayon murder pictures on the refrigerator. Cause I would be there to jump way ahead. There was, I know it was supposed to be a serious moment, but there was one picture in particular that he had drawn. And I remember thinking, there are several times in this movie that I stopped and went, I'm, I don't believe we're going here. Like, there are moments that I'm just like, what the hell is going on in this movie right now?
And I love it a little more for that. Sometimes I like it. I love it when a filmmaker says, I have this box of ideas and I'm just going to shove them all together and we'll see what happens. Or let's not put them in the room that's half cordoned off with the translucent plastic sheeting where you can see scary silhouettes. There's half of my issue with them as flippers.
What is that? Again, to go ahead and jump to further into the movie, but I'm like, every time I'm like, what is that accomplishing in your flip right now? I'm like, is that dangerous for your child that is sleeping in there? That's where we keep the asbestos over there. So you sleep a few feet away from it.
We gotta peel off all the lead paint. Here's where it gets weirder. They showed several rooms of the house that appeared to be fully furnished Yeah. With their stuff. And I, and when they first showed the kid's room, I'm thinking, man, he's got like posters up and this is a lift.
And I, and I was like, okay, I get it. They're trying to make the kid feel comfortable. But then at a certain point you see that, no, he's got a plastic sheet hanging. It's like, Okay. I understand the real world answer is that's where the creepiness is.
Yes. That's where the silhouettes are. So it looks cool. I understand from Angel's point of view as the director. But from a practical character, I'm like, what are you doing?
Like, if you're painting, you cover up stuff. Or if you're, again, if you're walling that off, but like there's posters on the other side. There's furniture on the other side. Like, it's still something you're going into. So why do you need a curtain in the middle of the room that's a plastic sheet of...
I don't understand what's going on here. But I sat down to watch it, not realizing it was part of the goddamn Conjuring universe. I'd forgotten that somehow. You cannot escape. Well, because the day after I watched it was when they announced that the new...
Conjuring movie is set to be released later this year. And I don't know what I've gotten myself into. Unless it's going to be like battle of the network stars. Don't show me your physical, maybe double bear, occasionally American gladiators reruns, you know, but the good stuff, but like any modern version of it, I'm just like physical challenges. You know how sad I get when you bring up battle of the network stars.
Yeah. This movie is not cat friendly. Um, You ever give a cat ear medicine? Not easy. Don't do it.
I can't imagine putting a little noose on him and hanging him from a tree would be any easier. I feel so bad for saying that out loud. I was just going to say she knew because she was a witch. She's a witch ghost. Again, we're massively blurring the lines here.
Like, what are all these things? Sometimes it's just weird, spooky ghosts that you can't see. Now it's a vision of your dead wife. Maybe he brought that with him because he already had that ghost in his head version that manifested itself. Or is it all in his head and he's freaking crazy?
I don't know. Like, you're 15 minutes in and we are full-on world domination. If you died wearing shoes, you're stuck with those shoes for the rest of your damn life. So you better hope you die in really cool shoes or comfortable shoes because... If you die in something stupid, you're stuck wearing something stupid the rest of your eternity.
So keep that in mind when you're about to die. Which makes me wonder if there is a tap dancing ghost out there somewhere. I want to know a lot of details about the other side that may or may not match up with the TV show I'm watching. So I need to know what are the specifics of how this works. I have a Ouija board.
That's my go-to. It's like, okay, I'm going to ask some questions, and the only way I've got is Ouija. Things never end well when someone says that. And it's a used one, too. It's a vintage one.
Oh, then we're fine. We've already had all the murders that one had in it. You only have so many dead people involved with each Ouija. You get like four or five. You shake it a couple times.
You get a couple more. Like an Etch-A-Sketch. You just shake it and start over. Well, as I say, you shake. It to get the rest of it out, kind of like toner ink.
Oh, God. I can't afford a Ouija board then. Never mind. There was one scene where he's just sitting there depressed watching home movies. And I was like, turn the TV off and get to work.
You could make it a theme. Come stay on the haunted hotel. I did say, okay, medieval torture museum. Yeah. Where's their shitty little dummies?
Listen, there are several different types of people that I'm not going to get into today. but they would be interested. In a dungeon. Yeah. And you can take that in any direction you want. I feel like everybody here would be.
For a different way. I feel like the three of us would be for the more quote-unquote innocent reasons. Yes. Or possibly macabre reasons. Yes, definitely that.
But also just for cool aesthetics. Yeah. Do I think that it's dumb? Yes, it is dumb. Did I give a shit?
No. Well, that's another thing I love when a movie admits that it's dumb. I mean, it just... And it looked like it was like. We know, we know.
I mean, it just full on embraces the stupid things along the way. And then again, like I said, takes it up a couple of notches. Every few minutes, every 15 minutes or so, there's another, oh my God, we're not good. Okay, there we are. So, yeah, yeah.
It's entertaining. I would have been eating the popcorn right out of my industrial drum. It is a popcorn movie that I thoroughly enjoy. So go to MovieMeltdown.com, join the Meltdown Horror Club, and give us a better title than Scar 3D with or without the glasses. Because we'd probably get it without the glasses, and then we'd be like, why is this all blurry?
I can't see this weird German person with a beret on. So just give us a better option. I may order the 447 one. It totally is going to come without the glasses. You'll be using the old timey ones and you'll be like, this doesn't work.
Everything's just blue and red. Kind of purple when I cross my eyes. That is something I would do. Yeah. Purple's cool.
Everything should be in purple vision.
