M smashing reviews today smashing. I haven't read any of the reviews. They're really good. I mean I would say more, but I don't want to spoil it. Who are you talking to?
Well, I mean not that it's spoiling it, but it's being called the best in the series. So there is that means it's gonna it's gonna make like two billion dollars. Oh yeah, of course that doesn't mean Justice League made a billion dollars, you know what I mean. What it means, though, is that even in this fallo period for the MCU, Spider Man continues to be like the most bankable hero of the bunch, hands down. Well he's spider Man, not to like.
Yeah, it's like it's it's their version of Superman and Batman. You know what I mean. You put a Batman movie out, it's going to make a billion dollars. Put a Superman movie spider Man. Same thing.
No, But the more I read about Tom Holland and how he really stepped up to get the script right and get the filmmaker that he wanted. He should. He's the fucking steward of that character. Now it's so heart him. It makes you like the guy even more that he's look, I want to make the best movie that I can make.
I don't have any more of these Spider Man movies I can make. Tell you the truth, I'm hitting thirty pretty soon. If you're just joining us, Hey, this is Father Malone's Weekly round Up. We just started in a little bit of Spider Man. There.
We're talking about San Diego Comic Con, though it is find the Malones Weekly round Up. I guess some of hps here, everyone say ho to HP. Hello, Hello everybody. He seems a little stuff. He didn't know who was going to I was gonna launch right end of this anyway, Listen, listeners.
I know it's been a while since I've done any sort of the theatrical films coming out, and I'm sure some of you are a little pissed at me for not having indulgence in the Odyssey yet. Let me just tell you that I have seen it and that review is coming. But you're not gonna like my review of the Odyssey. I'm just telling you now, I will say this about it. My current occupation puts me around a lot of young people in their twenties and thirties, and every day there are lively conversations about agent Greece and classical life and cinema and its impact on the world.
And even though I think, like most Chris Nolan movies it's a lot of bombast and nothing at the center, I love that the conversations are happening. I was a classics minor in college, and it's always good that people are picking up the fucking book and reading it and getting their interpretations of it. And by the way, and I'm going to say this in my review when it comes up, there's a fucking fantastic version of The Honesty already out there from nineteen ninety seven, starring Armanda Sante. It's a mini series. It was fucking awesome and it's still out there and it's available.
HP. Have you seen The Honesty Went a Way in here? I did not. I have not seen the one in the theaters right now. I have not.
It's a commitment. It's almost like like a three hour movie, right. Oh, it is three hours, definitely, yeah. And I feel because it's so specifically shot for a particular type of IMAX movie, I have a feeling that I'm getting short changed if I'm not seeing it there. And I think the closest one to me here is in Rhode Island.
So I'm not sure I want to take a hike for a three hour epic. I'm just not in the mood. But I do remember that armand de Sante two part was like a MINISERI I guess you'd call it a mi aniseeries. I think that as a big new Ravishinski that he directed. Who directed it?
It's a big new Brazinski. No, yeah, I. Don't know why I have that name in my mind. I like that name, Jersey Kazinski. You're at the painted berl and the television adaptation of the Odyssey.
Who did direct it? Do you know? No idea? I just know that I know that Francis for Kobol. It was one of the producers on it.
Uh see. And I thought you were gonna say, oh, there was a great version in nineteen sixty eight by Ralph Bakshi. You should check out. Really he did it, the Odyssey did everything else. There is a sixty nine version of the Odyssey, but the one that I as somebody who loves the book and loves all of the the out there parts of the book with the gods and all the cuckoo, fucking supernatural nonsense that you can't do better than their Mondo Sante went And I won't say Armanda Sante's never been better because he has been in Judge Dread right around the same time.
He's the best part of that fucking movie. He's great, He's great. He's great. But you know when he was great in everything. He was great in Paradise Alley.
For goodness, he was great in Paradise. It was really good. That movie gets a lot of guff but I really. Liked that movie. Was getting a film called I Jury or I the Jury at some point?
Was that a that was like a Mike Hammer. Yeah. Thing. So Armando Sante in that he was when he played Gotti. IM about Gotti.
Happened to Armanda Sante. He's still out there, man, He's still kicking around. I just saw him in he was in something I don't know. He was in a television series just recently, playing like an old sort of Italian fogie, which he is now at this point. Good for him, Yeah, No, I love Armand Sante.
He seems like he's he's real methody and he'd probably be a nightmare to be around. Honestly, but I love watching him act. Yeah, I feel it feels a little bit not as extreme as Mickey Rourke, but maybe cut from a similar cloth. Oh. I think they may make great roommates those two, you know, good call wing men for each other.
Wow, what a nightclub situation that would be being cornered by Armanda Sante and Mickey Rourke. S Hey, I'd have a great story to come out of that with. Okay, but obviously we're not going to talk full fully in depth. Also, it's been hard recently because nothing really on streaming has been peaking my interest. And I'm just apologizing for not including Ripley Gene on the roundups as much, but it's really hard to sneak her into a theater and she won't stop barking once there.
So anyway, So this is kind of a continuation of our mini von doom Fest situations here because the fucking news just keeps on a rolling, which just so happens that this past weekend was the San Diego Comic Con, where Marvel always invades hall Ah It's other major casting announcements are always always here at hall HP. Have you been to the comic con? I have never been to the comic con, never been to one on either coast, certainly not to the San Diego Comic Con. I always wanted to go, but just the stars never lined up for me. I'll tell you a comic con story, please do.
My first comic con was in nineteen ninety four, and only half of the convention center was used at that time. And then when walking through it, I thought, this is too big, this is too much. Little did I know how large it would actually become. At the time, there was very little more than comic books and whatever latest comic book or genre movie was about to debut, or TV series or basically all the low key stuff that was still nerdy and wasn't just everyone trying to make a big buck or there were no Internet stations there and no fucking with that fucking nerd bullshit. Let's remember that it's comic con.
It's comic convention. I think because it's just been concatenated, I think people forget the roots of the convention itself. Now. I was there with a friend who was a screenwriter who was at the time hired to develop the character of Jonah Hex into a feature length screenplay, and so we were actually sent to Comic Con where he was given instructions to buy as many Jonahek's comics as he wanted on Warner Brothers effectively. So it was just a weird situation being there.
I bring that up because it allowed me to get into the Film Threat party Film Threat magazine, which at the time was the the indie magazine of the independent film. Everything was independent film. We're talking in nineteen ninety three ninety four here, so it was everything was pulled fiction. Everything was quint and Tarantino, know, everything was everything independent and everything was really real. Man was Chris Gore there?
I did not see Chris Gore there, but I did meet and share a cigar with Dominic from the real world. Venice You didn't, I absolutely did. He did fancy himself a journalist. Maybe I'm being unfair, I believe for a film threat at the time, Yeah, he was very even. He was very affable and very funny.
Actually, sure, I look, I feel a little bad that I just laughed in your virtual face father alone, but that's all I ever knew him from was the real world, and it was just a big goof. But I am sorry, No, that's okay. At the same party, I met Reggie Banister from the Phantasm movies. Oh yeah, still going strong? Oh my god, yeah, very nice guy.
But the funniest part to me of the evening was at one point I ran into a promoter from another party who was there trying to recruit people from the film Start party to bring them over to this other sort of more exclusive party. And it was, Oh my god, I can't believe him blanking on. His name right now, someone I would know. Yes, Glenn Danzig, get out of here. Glenn Danzig was having a more exclusive private party right but the promoter's instruction was to only recruit Haunt girls.
Danzig wanted a party completely filled with women. You know, look, there's no getting around the fact that that he's a creepig. He's a creep and he's a dick. But you know what, I actually really his first two or three solo records out to mention. I mean, Misfits is iconic, Simon is iconic.
But I really loved those first couple of Danzig records. There were sort of bluesy. He had the elvist thing going on that I won't make fun of him for. But everything else he's just this kind of meatball, the meathead of. A guy speaking of Sandman and creeps.
Also at that the big news sort of rippling through the film party was there was an exclusive midnight reading by Neil Gaiman of his latest work. Oh talk about creeps. If we could only get into that and be leered at by that fucking creeper. My how time has revealed everything? Was what's his name?
From Miramax? Was he also there? Yeah? Exact, Harvey Weys, Harvey weinsteinlad handing up and down. Sure, we weren't not enough for his party either, fa them alone.
I wasn't, unfortunately, But I had a really good time at that. Oh I was. By the way, I was twenty and they weren't going to let me into the party because you had to be twenty one because there was alcohol being served at the party, and I was snuck in and I don't even remember how because I was already drunk by point. So that was my first comic con. The next comicon wouldn't be until two thousand and seven, and that was when my wife Jessica had her own table at Artists Dally and did for the next two or three years, three, four years, four years in a row.
Actually, we went to Comic Con and so we were getting in on her pass, which would allow us to have a home base at Comic Con, and that was the greatest thing I've ever experienced. Comic Con is endless fucking conga lines in every direction, everywhere you want to go. It's just you can say to somebody, i'll see I'm going to run to the bathroom, I'll see you in an hour and a half, and actually meet it there. Comic Con is more than the convention center now, it spills out into the streets, takes over like surrounding businesses. Now you can't park within miles of the city.
I also almost got arrested at the last comic con I went to, by the way, because I was trying to sell one of my passes, and some fucking dickhead from one of these dickhead volunteers from Comic Con pointed me out to it. I haven't been to Comic Con, but I've been to plenty of conventions, and the volunteers usually have a very inflated sense of power, so I'm not a bit surprised. Now. In previous comic cons, we had Loki come out and make the crowd kneel. That was a great moment.
Tom Middleston was a great moment. That was real theater. Remember when Dwayne Johnson tried to ape the same thing. It was so absolutely pathetic when he came out as black at him and he just came out and said there's been a new hierarchy at the DC universe and he just floated there limply for a second. Yeah, the Rock.
There's always an air of desperation I find around it. Pretty much everything that Dwayne Johnson does, it's weird. There doesn't seem to be a trend. He won't jump on. Yeah, and that's what it is.
I think he's always a day late and a dollar short with everything. But I will admit though, when I saw the first footage of Black Adam, I thought it might be good and it wasn't a terrible movie, but it just again a day late and a dollar short. Yeah, that he needed to have made that happen early on. And then to hear he was being a bully at Warner Brothers there at the end, like thinking, oh yeah, thinking he was Black Adam, I guess, well. He refused to fight Superman because he didn't want to lose to Superman.
You want the character to lose. But at the same time, he insisted they bring Henry Cavill back, even though the deal was already done and James Gunn was already coming in and they were going to redo everything with Superman that and they couldn't tell Henry Cavill like, no, don't do this because you're not going to be Superman anymore. There'll be books written about all that stuff. If they aren't already, I can't wait. They're going to be great now.
In the days leading up to Comic On, of course, there are it all starts on Thursday, haulages and until Saturday. So they were already making their presence known with a series of costumes that caused quite a stir this year three. We're gonna call them. Which costumes appeared. First of all, the first one showed up and I believe was purple, and it's like Doom has a metal face and hood and robe, and so the purple.
And then the next day that was changed to an orange version, and then finally a green version, and then on the final day it was Doom's actual costume. Let's talk about these Latvarian witches. Who are they hb or are they doom Bots? Are these the actual doombots, because that's a possibility that I really like. Well, you could go either way because obviously doom has a well documented history of witchcraft as part, and I believe that's why in the trailer you see him stop.
We talked about this, We talked about the trailer for the New Avengers coming out, and the reason why I think he can stop Stormbreaker from cutting his head off is because he's using magic. So it could be witches in Latveria. I personally would prefer if they were doombots because I remember doombots from my reading of The Fantastic Four, and I think it would be awesome if they were these cool feminine robots that do his bidding. I think that'd be. I do too.
But that's not what's gonna happen. Let's face it. It's gonna be Aga the Haarkness because her powers are purple. It's gonna be oh yeah, who's the orange one going to be? It's not gonna be Scarlet Witch because she's not in this.
Yeah, it can't be Wanda. I mean, I've het theory is that it's gonna be her, but she's too powerful for this shit. I don't think we're gonna see much of scrout which, if anything at all in this movie. I imagine she'll make her presence known in the Secret Wars portion of this Doom Generation by Greg Irocky. Remember that movie.
I love that movie. Anyway, he's got a new one coming out that's got really good advance anyway, I bet it does. That motherfucker has always been super talented and I'm really curious to see what he's doing with the budget. And trailer was good. Trailer was real good.
But yeah, I don't know who the orange one would be. Who would be the green one? Well that we're talking green magic now, which is associated with Doctor Strange, So two possibilities clean the ancient one I think too powerful personally Sylvie from Loki Ah two minor too mine or you think? And who did you see? That's Cleia?
I said, clear, I have Mistress Cleo because I was such a fan of her one nine hundred number back in the nineties. She couldn't see this I'm seeing you coming. She couldn't see it coming, but she did predict the third Latvarian, which which is weird. So I don't know. I your your theory is that these are heroes that are draped in this armor.
Yes, and probably probably variants of so it won't be the actual Agatha Harkness. But Agatha Harkness. Once again, I keep saying this and every time we talk about The Fantastic for her origin is as the nanny of Franklin, so it only makes sense that she would be in this movie. In fact, that fucking finale of The Fantastic Four, when they reveal that Doom is in there, like talking to Franklin shouldn't have been frank shouldn't have been Doom at all. It should have been Agatha Harkness.
That would have been super fucking cool. There is a theory I did read recently that's not even really doctor Doom in that credit sequence. Perhaps it's this green Witch goold Day because you never really see him or his face, so it could be. Now, my question to you is when they showed Dooms. That's not a question, it's more of an observation.
I guess when they finally showed Doom's costumes, you gotta look at the medallions he's sporting. I didn't get a good look at them. But I read a lot of conjecture online as to what they all represent, and it's like all this sort of magic, these sort of magical totems that he's festooned his armor with. I think it's a great idea. It definitely is.
Now. The prominent ones are the left and the right. The left is Thor's hammer, so specifically, he's got magic to counter Thor's hammer. Ah. The other one is Captain Marvel's symbol.
Her symbol or Nova. Ooh, I look like Captain Marvel's symbol, honestly, because. Didn't they Well, we're getting I don't want to get ahead of ourselves. We'll talk about Nova maybe in a little bit, but but I mean, do we want to even bring up the idea that the prevailing rumor is that, at least for this movie, Doom is aiding our heroes? Oh?
We look, that's given that I think at this point, like remember when we were watching that one scene of all the heroes got together and we were like, who's missing in those scenes? It's Doom. Doom is going to be standing there and they're all gonna be like talking to him and stuff. By the way, the orange, which the popular theory is that will be Jean Gray. Okay, that fits.
I think. So it's it's phoenix colored. I guess I don't know, Maybe that's maybe that's a reach, that's just people are saying. But it makes sense to me considering we're probably getting her as the villain of Spider Man. To a certain degree.
All of this conjecture reminds me of having five people look at a cloud up in the sky and now one guy one person goes, oh, that looks like an elephant. No, it looks like a dragon. Now that looks like my mother, that looks like a smiley face. I mean, people are seeing in these sort of costumes and accoutrements what they want to see, and it's it's fun to say, well, it could be fun to guess about it. I guess.
All right, let's skip around with the announcements here, because some of the things are just happening. They mentioned Vision Quest is coming out, that they mentioned Spider Man's coming out, and John Barnhal came out and was like, hey, what are you doing there, Kevin Figy push on my clip. But really there were three major announcements, and let's take them out of order, and since we're already talking about doomsday. Let's talk about the doomsday panel, which again didn't really tell us much of fucking anything. It brought out a couple of surprises.
I guess Peggy Carter's definitely in the movie because she came out on stage. Fucking Ryan Reynolds showed up. Oh yes, it was tired Deadpool act. I mean, I will say this that it did seem to be a little bit. He was off his game.
It wasn't like the laugh riot that I think they were hoping for. But I did like the funny part was everyone was conjecturing, oh, what does it mean? He has this blue suit is the part of X Force. But the actual fact was was just to play on the Canadian tuxedo. It was a denim It was a costume Deadpool costume made of denim.
And I thought that was a good joke. Oh I didn't even get that joke. I honestly thought it was X Force. I thought he thought he was going to be an X Force. No, it was just it was made of denim and he has a Canadian flag.
Yeah, that's awesome. It was his Canadian tuxedo. I thought that that's a great kill. No, don't make me like Ryan Reynolds. He's a creep.
I don't like that guy. I look he and his wife, from what I understand, both creeps. But I am an unabashed Deadpool fan. Just where you go, then you must have been stoked that he was there. Now does that confirm that he's in the movie or is the joke there that he's not in the movie that they basically said it, like when did we start filming?
No, he'll I think, like you said, with some of the other characters, he will be in Secret Wars. He will not be in Doomsday. I don't I think he's going to be in Doomsday. Actually, I bet he'll start the movie Doomsday. He might be in the post credit sequence, but I don't think he'll have a featured role.
I again, I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that they're going to save him for Secret Wars. Are you betting, listeners? Do you want to place bet something now? Anyway, they did that really painful thing where they put the X Men and the Avengers on different stages, but they're all in the same room. Just bring them up on stage unless you're gonna unless they're coming out in full fucking costume with lasers shooting around the auditorium.
Just bring them out anyway. I found that embarrassing, just like I always fast forward through the Russo Brothers whenever they come out to talk about anything. Yeah, not a lot of charisma there. Good god man, it was just a sinkhole of charisma. Did you see the footage?
Now, that's the real thing. Did you happen to see the leaked footage of what the audience in hall age got to say? I didn't, And I usually kind of try to avoid that because it's always just crappy cam footage from the hall and I just I feel like it. I don't know, it loses a lot and I have to kind of use my own imagination. Sometimes you can't even hear what they're saying and all.
No, I didn't see the footage, but we can tell me about it. I'm curious now, Okay, Yeah, I've seen from three different angles. Now. Two of them were terrible, one of them was pretty fucking good. So can you send me the link?
I will find it, Okay, I will not post it in the show notes though. It's not what I'm trying to do here, folks. I'm just letting you know that footage is out there and you can probably find it if you're actually looking for it. So the footage is lots of other minor shots of characters from different angles that we haven't seen, and it's being narrated by Sue Storm, and she's talking about Victor, and she's saying that Victor was always the smartest man in the room and that he used to be different, and then there was a tragedy and he lost his wife and child. So that's confirmed now that this is all a revenge story on Doom's part, right, And then they showed the entirety, not the entirety, but much more of the Thor versus Doom thing.
And before Thor comes swinging in, he says, you will beg for Hell long before I grant it. And then he swings in, Doom stops the blaze and he says, Hell answers to me for I am Doom, and he swats Thor away, and then all of the sentinels that are in pieces behind him rise up as gigantic, fucking building sized monsters and that's the end of the trailer. I gotta say it's a spectacularly epic shot. You know what's interesting about that? You say that.
Funnily enough, one of the things I was more focused on with Comic Con, with the news coming out of it, was actually the toy companies. I'm a big fan of Hot Toys. They produce the most incredibly detailed figures you'll ever see. They have moving eyeballs, They're crazy. We've talked about it at length at times fallom alone, but.
But you need ovenmts to pick them up. You can't. You have to keep in a humidity controlled vault so they don't degrade over time. But they as part of the announcements coming out of Comic Con, they announced they have a Magneto figure, they have a Cyclops figure, They have all these figures, that Doctor Doom figure obviously, and all of these figures they all have little like pedestals and tableaus that you pose them in and everything, and every one of those figures. Professor X is there too.
They all have pieces of what you can kind of tell our sentinels, like Scott Summers's has a hand behind him. I think Magneto has the head of the Sentinel behind him. So this all I mean, obviously, this indicated to me. Yeah, we're going to see the sentinels in some way, shape or form. But what you're saying kind of ties all that kind of together in a funny way.
Yeah, they're one there, They're unmistakably sentinels. Now when Doom is using magic to revive them, perhaps we're now calling them. But their design and their function are to wipe out the to wipe out the X Men. Interesting. Yeah, so okay, So that's how was his accent?
How was much better? Much better? I mean, him whispering stuff isn't going to do anything. He did a little bit of it at Comic Con, which did didn't sound great to me because maybe he needs dialogue to read. Can I pause just for one minute?
Just as a side note, we've talked about the pros and cons of Robert Downey Junior as Doom and why they did it and so forth. If you, if you had the ability right now to turn back time and recast Doctor Doom one actor father alone. I have one in mind already, So I'm a little unfairly putting you on the spot. Who would you have cast for Doctor Doom? Matts Michelson, Oh.
I think you said that last time we talked about. I'm gonna always say Matts Michelson because he's doom huh okay, yeah, Actually, you know what. Unfortunately they cast Daniel Brule as Baron Zimo, but he should be doomed. See, and I went in a different direction. I was actually thinking, and don't laugh, George Clooney.
Wow, that's great. That's great because he's so classically handsome. I don't know about the accent. Work him under the mask. Make him do an accent.
Fuck. Yeah, just say you're just redeeming yourself from Batman here got the chops. Wow, that's a great idea, HP. I almost called you by your full name. That was such a good idea.
It just kind of came to me. But anyway, sorry, I don't wan to what about you listeners. I never ask for your input, fucking wright in comment on the stuff at midnight underscore viewing. That's Instagram. Go there, message me.
I'll put a fucking poll up or something. But somebody right in. Let me know who you would want for doom. I say, Man's Michelson, HP, says George Clooney. HP is correct, that's.
Not that is not true. There's no right or wrong answer here. Oh yeah, there is, actually George Clooney is the fucking right answer. Foot I'm sorry, No, I do like. The footage a tremendous amount.
I still look. I still think this is Infinity War meets fucking Civil War, honestly, and there's no getting around that. It's gonna be fun because we're gonna see a lot of fucking people that we don't normally see together kicking ass and taking names. Right, We're gonna see the X Men, We're gonna see all that we've all Manady mentioned this in the fucking trailer breakdown, but I hadn't seen anything in that trailer that kind of took my breath away. And Doom and his new doom Bots I'm calling them was pretty fucking epic.
Look grit, so I understood why they held that footag Josh for Comic. Con Sure, No school sounds great? All right? The of the other three, we're jump to number three. That's Black Panther three.
Ryan Cougler takes the stage. Academy Award winner Ryan Couger coming back to Marvel after after Black Panther two. We talked about that a little bit in our Doomsday break Doomsday trailer break it down, but this was this was an actual announcement. For Fox's sake. The Black Panther mantle was taken up by Letitia Wright for Wakanda Forever and will continue to I guess all through Battle World.
I don't know if it's Battle World have been filmed yet, Secret Wars it's got to be. It comes out next fucking December. They had to have been. They had to have been filming simultaneously. I guarantee you think, Okay, yeah, just to save money, I'm sure.
And then while they have everyone together. Everybody still I always figure these executives get nervous that someone's just gonna drop dead and then that'll screw everything up. I would be petrified of that, and they've had it happen. So so anyway, Ryan Cooger comes out, lets us know that they're What happened at the very what in the post credit scene of Waconda Forever is that we met young T'Challa, who is six year old son of King T'Challa Black Panther, and now we're aging him up. I'm gonna I wonder how they're gonna do that.
Yeah, yeah, the map doesn't work out. Not particularly, but it's gonna be. He's going to be played by David Johnson, who was the He was the android in Alien Romulus, and he was like the best friend in the Long Walk. Just recently he came out, seemed very, very a lot of gratitude for taking the role. So and he was standing next to Winston Duke, who made him seem like a tiny little man.
Did you see Winston Duke standing on the stage like a fucking colossus next to these mere mortals. He's great. We talked about how his character should have been the new Black Panther. I would have I mean, this is cool. The thing is, I wasn't particularly fond of Black Panther too.
It just didn't work for me. I respect that they were in a really tough spot, unthinkably tough spot with the death of the lead actor, Chadwick Boseman. But the most charismatic actor in the MCU, he's the one that's gonna go. You'll never you'll meet anybody who didn't think this guy was an amazing actor and a wonderful human being. But having said that, it just didn't work for me.
So I don't know. I'm on board everyone, I don't know a lot of us this actors work. I know a little bit here and there, but apparently he's very well regarded as a good actor. So sure, I'm down. Well, that's all I can say.
We don't know anything about the plot. We don't know anything about anything. We just know I think it's coming out in December fifteen, twenty twenty eight, so this is two years from now, this is coming out. How would you feel if you were Letitia? Right though, I would be grateful that they gave me the mantle at all.
Okay, she got to be black Panther in what it's going to be three movies. At the end of it all, Sure, but do you feel like you don't think there's any possibility she might feel a little slighted that she couldn't she didn't stay on indefinitely as the character. Oh, I'm sure she must. But it was a desperation move on their part, Hi giving it to her. They should have given it to Winston Duke.
They should have He's right there, guys are amazingly charismatic individual. All right, now, let's talk about the one that's actually going to tie into the topic that you're gonna hear on Monday. Finally after how fucking long, with a release date also in twenty twenty eight, sometime in summer. They have July twenty seventh already staked out. I'm guessing that's where this is going.
We're finally getting ghost Rider, and we're finally getting Ryan Gosling, who has been crowing for I don't know how long that he wants to be the character. Now we don't know which ghost Rider we're getting. There are three available, I mean four if you want to fucking bring in Cosmic ghost Rider, but that's never gonna happen. Yeah, talk to that guy. He's a dick.
He's a he really is. So it's possible he's gonna be Johnny Blaze. Possibly he's gonna be Danny Ketch. Possibly he's gonna be Robbie Rayes. Actually no, he's not going to be Robbie Reyes.
He's going to be either Johnny Cage or Danny Ketch. Which do you think, hb. Danny Ketch? Probably, I think I think Danny Ketch. Too, Yeah, because I mean, I don't know Nick Cage was Johnny Blaze.
It would in a movie his life was in exactly even Mendez was in it. So it just feels like they're going to go for the less known character and he's gonna make it his own. But I don't know, So what are your thoughts? I know I already know you're not incredibly fond of the director. No, no, I'm not.
Honestly, I think he is a passable action director, a passable comedy director, and I was really hoping they would have given us a horror director here because ghost Rider is a horror character. So when they hired Sean Lavy, what they told me was, this is going to be a bit lighter than you wanted it to be, and it's going to be more action packed than you were hoping it was going to be. Sure, So already I have problems with the. Film's if the ink isn't even dry on the contracts yet, that father Malone is already it's already making his opinion known. Now, I do think I agree with you.
I do think this is going to be Danny Ketch. I think, just because okay, you want to hear my crazy fucking theory always, I think in Battle World we're going to get Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch together because they were a duo for a little while known as the Spirits of Vengeance, and I think that was such a popular title, and it's such a good way to hand it off, that we meet one and then get the other. I think that's what's going to happen that, at least in my Weirdo Nerd Marvel Horror Heart, we're going to get the Spirits of Vengeance in Battle. World by Johnny Blaze. You mean Nick Cage, I definitely mean Nick Cage.
Yeah. He Technically they don't even need Nick Cage because, let's face it, he's a flaming skull. Right, and but he Nick Cage just did that Spider Noir thing, so he's you know, he'll be down. Yeah, Oh he's He would be down. They might not even have to pay him.
He'd be so down for it. To send Johnny Blaze off in a blaze of glory. Yeah, because that's got to be one of these sections of Battle World, right, is nightmares? Realm Right? I think what you're kind of saying, part of what you're saying is that, and how I feel about it is that the Secret Wars the Battle World deal that that is the be all, end all climax of all this Multiverse nonsense.
So if they are going to throw everything up against the wall and see what sticks, then they could do worse than bringing Nick Cage back as Johnny Blaze. I'm on board. I'm hoping that they actually go for it with Battle World. I hope they bring in fucking everybody everyone you could ever possibly think of that was ever. I hope the animatronic duck from Howard the Duck Is In is In is on battle World.
I want to see Nicholas Hammond as Spider Man. Yeah, I want to see all the Parkers lined up. I want them all there. I mean, because that's it no more, because people are evidently so sick of the multiverse that they just want it to be over and done with. But they need to go out.
As you said in a Blazer Glory. I mean, just a scene with them will do it. Come on, but actually go whole hog and give us everybody. That's all I want from battle World. But from ghost Rider.
I'm excited, but I'm not excited. I'm less. I was actually a bit disappointed because, as you know, I've been holding out for a Midnight Sun's movie. I hope they were just gonna fucking go for that that we'll talk about it more. When we talk about you'll hear it on Monday, everybody.
But yeah, I think that would solve the maherschel Ali problem if they would just make a midnight Sun's movie. Like now, the issue. I have with the ghost Rider announcement, it's not a huge thing. It's just for me. They that was it Starfighter?
Is that the movie that he did with the same director with cheohn I. It's I don't know, it just seems kind of lazy to him. I know he's I know that, Like you said that, the Gosling's been talking about this forever and that's just something that he's wanted to do. But it just seems kind of lazy for them, Like there's there's nothing adventurous at all in what I'm seeing so far. This is a guy who's already in house at Disney because he's doing this Star Wars movie, which they're projecting is going to be a big deal.
He went from he went from Deadpool and Wolverine, which is a Disney property, to Star Wars, a Disney property, back to Marvel, a Disney property. Right, So both both Gosling and Sean Leevy to me that that just seems lazy. That's just these guys are known quantities. They're still playing it safe, I guess, is ultimately my point. And you could probably say that about the entire comic Con experience this year.
It's all being played safe HP. Speaking of safe, the writer and star of Starfighter are now at the are now at the helm of ghost Writer. Do you know who's writing it? The Ross I don't know, not the Russo's. No, his name's Jonathan Tropper.
His only other credit that I know of is Star Wars Starfighter. Seems like it's like a little cronyism. Maybe I really fucking hope Star Wars Starfighter is fucking awesome at this point. Better be fucking better be man, because they're taking on ghost Rider. This isn't some Werewolf by Night's situation.
This isn't Morbius the Living Vampire. This is fucking ghost Rider. Get it right, rant over, you. Know, I look, I just like I said, I kind of greeted the news with a bit of a shrug because I was like, well. Not that I got so excited.
No, so I'm not the biggest Ghostwriter fan. Everyone knows who Ghostwriter is. I mean, it's how could you not recognize his flaming visage? But the Gosling didn't excite me for the movie, and the director I kind of said, well, that's fine whatever. I like Deadpool Wolverine, that was good.
I don't know, just these guys, I feel like Night of the Creeps, you know, thrill me. Prove it to me that you guys deserve to be in this position, and then I'll eat my words. But until then, I'm just going to be very dubious about the whole thing. Overall, a completely underwhelming presentation by Marvel this year. Okay, they what else did they announce anything?
Movie wise? Nothing? Nothing, Although there are some holes in the schedule. Theories are we're getting an X Men movie in between. I forget when it would have to be after Secret Wars, so that would be early twenty eight, and they've announced that there is no film until until Secret Wars from Marvel after Doomsday.
Do you have a different list? He well, no, I was gonna say. It wasn't formally it wasn't formally announced, but Fige did make an oblique reference to an upcoming Nova movie. So is that about Nova, particularly about the Nova core? No?
One knows could be either not damn it Figye. By the way, John c Riley played Nova in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, so no, here is that? Yeah he did. He was in the Novacore, was. Part of the Nova core.
He was. He wasn't Nova, all right, he wasn't Nova, but he had Nova. Is part of that kid from the fucking Will something or other. He was in that fucking RV movie with Jennifer Aniston and Jasons. We'll we'll pull, We'll polter.
Yeah. No, he was in Nova. Oh no, he's out a Warlock. Yeah too, Chet, turn about my friend. All right, But who's Nova?
Then? I don't know. We haven't met No, we. Haven't seen him yet. We haven't met him yet.
But my point is we went down a rabbit hole. There is something announced obliquely about a Nova movie, because what the exact quote was that he was asked if a Nova movie was happening, and Fige said something to the effect of, I don't know a damn thing about it, but it's a movie, so take make of that what you will. Okay, So they're not looking for anything but to develop it, is they they're not looking to develop it as anything but a movie is what that tells me. But that doesn't mean they're in any stage of development. Correct, But I'm just saying if we're looking for any shred of an announcement that was made there.
HP, you will beg for hell. Long before I grant it, I wanted to say it like that, like mister Furlier or something. All Right, you kids, listen. You will beg for hell. All right, that's gonna do it.
That there was underwhelming, as I said, but well. Not only just underwhelming, but I just, like I said, I felt that it smacked of desperation to me, because we get the same. They're trotting out these big casts hoping that everybody goes ooh dude, wee it just it felt like a retread of comic cons past I and I've said this before. I really hope they knock it out of the park. I'm not gonna sit here and say I'm gonna I hate watch it.
I want it to be good. I want to be knocked back into my seat in the theater and going, wow, that was great. I just don't feel it yet. Everybody tune in on Monday our next Von Doom Fest. We're gonna be talking about the Midnight suns HP.
