The following feature has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised. Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power. What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I am Brian.

This is Roger. I'm Joni. I'm Misty. I'm Jay. I like how you wave, Joni.

Waving on the radio. It's always fun. So yeah, we could be joined later by another cast member. Maybe. Possibly.

Maybe. If they haven't gotten lost. Good luck with that. Yeah, really. Alright, so we will roll on into this week's geek activities.

Mine, I actually for once watched a few things, which is unusual for me. TV, I don't watch much, but this week somehow I saw the new show coming on and I thought I would watch it because it looks interesting. I saw The Good Guys. Yes. Have you seen the commercials for this?

Oh, it's yeah. It's like good fellows, but the TV show, no, this is just. A weird cop show, but it's, it's got a goofy sense of humor. So I wanted to see how they did it. It's, it's not bad.

It's, it's got, um, Colin Hanks in it. And yeah, I guess that's, um, Bradley Whitford is like the main guy you'll recognize him, but I don't, you know, I'm not, it's one of those, you're not really super familiar with him, but you sort of recognize them. So yeah, it's, To me, it plays like, do you remember Stroker and Hoop? Yeah. It's kind of like a cop version, like a live action cop version of that, only not so over the top and ridiculous, which I kind of like Stroker.

As ridiculous as it got, I kind of enjoyed that level. This doesn't get anywhere near that level. It plays it more like a regular cop drama, but the only thing is it's the main guy in that. Stroker is pretty similar to the main cop in this. He's definitely got this very cocky attitude.

I believe in the middle of the first investigation they go to, he pretty much scores with the lady they were questioning. Nice. Yeah, it's one of those kind of shows. The real thing I took from it is Colin Hanks is completely crossed over to looking like his dad. That's not a good thing.

Well, no, that's the thing. Tom, when he was young, was fine. He looked like a normal guy. He was handsome, I guess, when he was in his 20s. But now he just looks like an old version of Tom Hanks.

Colin Hanks skipped that step. He went from looking really weird and awkward when he was young to now looking like his old father. Oh, wow. He just jumped that whole middle. He looked good.

He looked like a good looking thing. He never, yeah, he never got that. He was just sort of like awkward. And now it's like as he gets older, he also is looking more like Dylan Baker. You remember the crazy dad in Trick or Treat?

Yeah. He's also looking like him, so he looks like the love child between Tom Hanks and Dylan Baker. Oh, gross. Which is not really what you're going for as a leading man in Hollywood, which is probably why. What are you talking about?

That's hot. Okay, that's all you. The last thing I saw him in was Band of Brothers, and he was, like, young and that. Yeah, I mean, I've seen him in a couple of different movies. I don't think he's ever going to get to his dad's level of stardom, but few actors will, so, you know. he's he's kind of got that loaded situation of never being able to you know be live up to what his father did so which you.

Will always be judged and yeah to your whole life unfortunately. Which is yeah it's what i mean i think he seems to have dealt with it better than a lot of kid actor i think he realizes that and just isn't even gonna try he's just gonna take whatever roles he seems to like and He's the straight guy in this one. He's there to sort of react to all the ridiculous stuff the other guy does. So it's sort of entertaining, I guess, for cheesy TV cop dramas. Yeah, exactly.

Although, well, it's a stupid comedy, but it's not near as slapsticky and over-the-top as it could be. It's actually got a decent city humor, so it's watchable. Anything's better than Sipowicz's ass. Got it. I do not need that ever.

I'm loving my PD crew. Yeah, that's good. Especially because, oh, what's his name? From CSI Miami. Caruso?

Yes. Oh, Caruso. I've never seen Caruso. I like Caruso. I've always liked Caruso.

I feel like the dramatic sunglasses. If I die or go missing, he's going to find me. I actually have instructions on to call him and let him know that that's what he's going to have to do. Tony has to bring his sunglasses, too. You have the Caruso hotline number?

Yeah. Okay. Other than that, I watched... I, for some reason, actually sat down and watched movies. I think because I was going to watch other things, and I never make it through the stuff I set out to watch, but if I accidentally watch movies, I'll see plenty of them.

So, yeah, I ended up watching two movies in a row, and it's a fitting double feature, actually, as it goes on. I saw The Babysitters, which... I don't know if you know anything about it. I've heard of this, and I knew it's speaking of John Leguizamo, as we have the last few weeks. This is one of his more dramatic roles.

It's him playing a straight character. Is that allowed? Yeah, that's the thing. He does that pretty good. I wish he would do more of that and not the stupid acting that he occasionally does.

Not the best. Thank you. I specifically singled out The Pest as one of the worst movies ever. So, yeah, this has him in it, but I'd seen the box, and I didn't really know what it was about. Whoa.

Yeah, once you get into it, I'm like, ah, this is just making me feel dirty. Which is what you usually go for. Yeah, I guess. But this is just, yeah, it enters into a very uncomfortable territory. Whereas, and if we all need to watch this, hey, we'll load it up.

But yeah, it's basically the, it starts off with him and he hires like a girl from the high school to be the babysitter. And as happens in a lot of these situations, he takes her home one night and they have a whole little thing. That's not that big of a deal. Then it enters into this weird territory where he tells a friend about it, and the friend wants a babysitter. So then she sets that guy up.

I remember this. She sets that guy up with her friend from school, and then quickly she's got a whole little bevy of babysitters that she's sending out. She's pimping out the babysitters. She's pimping out the babysitters. It enters into a really weird little area there.

Is it kind of like call girl babysitting? Yeah, not so much. because they do still babysit the kids so it is really a nice you know double double feature to throw there. That's pretty convenient i need to look into that. Yeah i'm sure that would work pretty well but yeah midway in you're just like oh this is not fun well i don't know it's i mean it's a good movie but it's just like you yeah you feel you feel very dirty midway into it so um As if that. And that's what I was thinking.

I was like, by the end of this, I'm just like, ugh. Is there anything that could make me feel worse than this movie? Uh-oh. Followed it up with Requiem for a Dream. Oh, man.

We were talking about that. And you didn't split your wrist off of it? Oh, the thing is, I think I felt more creeped out by the first movie. Because at least I get the creepiness of the first movie. You know, I'm a pervy dude.

But Requiem for a Dream, I just, it's foreign to me. I don't do massive amounts of drugs. So all of this is just like entertaining to me. I'm just like, I'm watching it more for direction at this point because he does do some really impressive stuff directing-wise. I'm still amazed how much it crossed over into the mainstream for as weird a movie as it is, just for as visually weird as it is.

The fact that so many people have seen it, and so, you know, it's a strange movie. It's pretty dirty and gritty. Yeah, and then by that last half hour, you're just like, oh, shit. Yeah, it's overwhelming. We'll have to watch it one day.

Yeah, I had no desire to watch this. It's one of those, if you saw it, you never did see it? No. No, it's good. It's like, I love Jennifer Connelly.

I had a crush on her when I was in high school. That's what I love. I was just like. I don't like depressing movies. Yeah, I was like, I don't want to see her like this.

Don't do it. That's the thing. If it weren't... The old Japanese guy. If it weren't Aronofsky, if it weren't so impressively done, it would be one of those.

It would be like, I don't want to watch this. But it's so well put together. that it really is worth dealing with. Scott, what's his name? Scott Leto. Leto, your pretty boy.

So he was back when he was still pretty. He gets offed. Jordan Catalano was hot. He's still pretty. Depends on which hair he has.

He looks the same, doesn't he? He is one of those that's holding up quite well. Depends on how bloaty he is. He still looks like he's, like, 20. Yeah, the bloaty's not hot.

What was that movie where he was the guy that shot John Lennon? Oh, yeah. And he was, like, fat. I did not recognize him at all. It's another one of those.

I'll give him credit for being an actor. I mean, he really did put on a ton of weight specifically to play Hinkley. Yeah. Yeah, it's a weird movie. I watched it, and that's all it's about.

And his band was actually okay. I don't hate that band. It's no Bacon Brothers. Bacon Brothers? Bacon Brothers.

Are you not familiar with the Bacon Brothers? No, I'm not. Kevin Bacon and his brother. In a band? Oh, yeah.

Really? I'm not making it the Bacon Brothers. It's been for a while. I have the CD. Really?

Yikes. I might have to give it a listen. I'm not sure you're going to like it. I use it as a coaster. I'll take the Jared Leto band.

So yeah, that uplifting double feature this past week. Me being a person who's already on most days be like, why do we even fucking bother? you know then to you know wrap it up the uh the weekend with that double feature that didn't really help actually nice now you see why i watch the disney channel to balance out my. Life that and selena gomez is awesome. Well she's freaking cool but other than that. Yeah My boyfriend brought me a Selena Gomez sticker from the Kroger this morning.

I was pretty excited. Because she's awesome. Oh, my God. I left the house wearing my pendant the other day. Oh, my God.

I was like, you know, just for the hell of it. Were you listening to the CD at the same time? No. Let's see if this sparks any conversation. I kind of wanted to see if anybody went, is that?

Never mind. Dude, I like her too. Oh, God. So, yeah, that was pretty much it for me. What else we got here?

Well, yeah, we did the rundown a couple minutes ago. Yeah, that's right. Nerf night, basically, is something that I like to set up. My folks have a big house with mini rooms. Pump parents don't listen to this.

No, they don't listen to the show. In their best interest to not ever listen. We always clean up and leave the house in better shape than it was in the beginning. No, we do, literally. Otherwise, it would be my head on a stake.

If we ever need to blackmail you, we now have the information. You have lots of information to blackmail you with. But we have an arsenal of the new Nerf guns that Nerf guns now are like insane. There's fully automatic, you know, uh, belt fed, um, they are begun chambered. Yeah.

They're ridiculous. The awesome. Yeah. And so we have like a small arsenal of this and I get as many as my friends overs that, you know, can make the drive and fit in their schedule. And we run around and shoot each other Nerf style.

Kind of like paintball where we'll have capture the flag or last night was capture the sword because we have Nerf swords now. Just to put it out there, you are 12 years old. Just making sure everybody knows he is officially 12. No matter who you are, instantly you'll be stuck on this. It's so much fun.

It is so much fun. It is almost criminal. So we did that last night pretty much to the tits and it was awesome. I was stuck under a bed for 20 minutes. Yeah.

Literally? Yeah, just like waiting. Not stuck, more like, yeah, waiting to snipe. That's dedication. And then there were sword battles in the front yard.

Yeah, sword battles in the front yard. And there were actually close combat kills during the Nerf game where it's like, you know, the captains had the swords, you know, designated or whatever. I walked around with a sword. I was actually wearing this last night. You would have fun.

You guys would have fun. This is full-on battle mode. But so that was last night, so we're just recovering from that. Ugh. Battle wounds.

Geek wounds. But through the past week, Joni, you've been getting me into Supernatural pretty hard. And you are beginning to get me into Stargate SG-1. Oh, you're more geekified. Yeah.

As if he wasn't already geeking. That's super level. Supernatural is like, actually a lot of normal people kind of watch Supernatural. Stargate on the other hand. The first season of Supernatural was pretty good.

Yeah. I'm up to season four right now. I just saw the last episode and can't stop. I'm stuck. Just can't stop.

You got me stuck on it. It's awesome. But Stargate is something that I've been watching for about, well, since it came out. It's a long time. I'm still amazed any version of it is still on.

The universe isn't good. I don't really like Stargate universe, but it's just too happy. Well, here's my thing, and this is what I realized. I haven't even watched hardly any of the show ever, but I realized within that first season when MacGyver was on it, I was just like... Actually, sadly, this is better than the movie because the movie takes a turn midway through and it sucks.

But, like, the show, like, just took the good idea of the movie and then took it, you know. Richard Dean Anderson is so good. Yeah. He's always kind of fun. I'm going to make MacGyver references in the show.

Yeah. He giggles so much. Yeah, it's totally awesome. We were sitting on the couch yesterday and I was like, you know, just so excited. She was shaking.

I had a tale of doing this. It was awesome, yeah. We'd go nuts. But so on the TV front, that's what we listened. To, watched.

And then. Legend. Legend, which is always. Which I haven't seen in a really long time. Freaking amazing.

And the new Friday the 13th, which we go over to a friend's house, and that kind of just popped on, and you're. Like, hey, let's check this out. Which has Jason Paldecki in it from Supernatural. And I didn't even know who he was until after watching Supernatural, and I'm like, oh, it is him. And he didn't die.

I'm okay because I like him. I'm okay with that. Yeah. Dean from Gilmore Girls. Dean.

He will always be Dean to me. He's Dean from Gilmore Girls. That's what threw me off and I couldn't get into Supernatural. He was called Dean on Gilmore Girls and then he went to be in Sam on Supernatural. And his brother's Dean.

Yeah, it threw me off. I couldn't get into it. I didn't know. It. I just had a rap.

Are you going to be okay? You've blown her mind. We're going to have to watch something else. We're going to get into Gilmore Girls. Gilmore Girls kicked ass.

It's an excellently written show. Even if it's super girly, it's very well written. I will give them that. I'll definitely watch that. I'll never see her in any other light besides bad Santa.

She's awesome in. That, too. Fuck me, Santa. Fuck me, Santa. I've never seen this movie.

I think that's going to be our Christmas movie. Nice. That's it. Better. Other than that, I think that was it.

Yeah. Because we were trying to, like, you know. We were marathoning. We were marathoning going nuts. But it was heavy geek activity this week.

It was a good week. Some wine geek activity. Yeah. Got some new wines. If you like educated guests or layer cake, go out and get some because it's delicious.

Yes. Oh, and last night, watched some Bleach. Oh, yeah. You are a huge Bleach fan. I am.

Which makes you much more awesome. I wish I could be a soul reaper. Maybe one day. It makes me very sad that I can't kill people in hollows. Yeah.

And get away with it. You can kill people. I plant it all the time. You look like a hollow to me. Right?

So I cut your face in half. But, yeah, that was pretty much it for us. Yeah, we had to make a list of the stuff that we had watched. We had forgotten. It's been a long time.

Yeah, you've been absent for a long time. Yeah, I've been in the garage. I finally got all my shit done. We watched Sherlock Holmes, which Boyfriend has written down as Sherlock Homeless because he can't spell. But, yeah, I hated that movie.

I didn't like it. Really? I didn't like it. I absolutely, it was boring. Guy Ritchie?

It was boring. I know, and I was kind of disappointed by Guy Ritchie. And I can tolerate What's-His-Face, Robert Downey Jr. I like cocky, because I'm cocky. But still, I don't like British cocky, because then it's just obnoxious and boring, and I just didn't like it.

I didn't think it was that well-written. It was just too much shit going on. Yeah, I didn't like it. It had neat action in it, but part of the thing that kind of annoyed me, and the same thing that you said annoyed. You, was where he's thinking through what I'm going to do.

I'll jab him in the solar plexus, and then I'll poke him in the eyeballs, and then he'll try to throw a wild haymaker, and I'll block that and counter with whatever, and. I'm like, is he saying that out loud? Yeah, he's saying it out loud first in his mind, and then he does it, and I'm like, dude, you can't predict how another guy is going to react. Especially to that detail. Yeah, I know.

It was incredibly obnoxious. You don't have time to think about that in a fight, so... It just happens. What I thought would have been cool, and I also thought this when they first announced the casting, I was like, I almost pictured the voles reversed. Like, I almost saw Jude Law as Sherlock Holmes.

I hated him in this movie, too. Robert Downey as the Watson. I think that would almost be really interesting had they done that. What do you think about this movie? There was nothing that I liked.

Oh, wow. I haven't seen it. It was long. Oh, my dear fuck. It was long.

I think visually it was good. It looked good if you just want to sit there for three and a half days. Action-wise, it was good. But, like, as far as, like, I guess the story was concerned. The meat.

Yeah, the meat of the story. The potatoes. It was rancid. Mm-hmm. And then we finally sat down and watched Iron Man because we were on a Robert Downey Jr.

Role at that point. I actually liked Iron Man. Is that the first time you saw it? It's the first time I've seen it. It's really good.

I've been putting off seeing movies because I've kind of been. Anti-robert downey jr since since uh fuck what's the name of that movie always loved him always damn it weird science weird science yeah he was always oh yeah he was a jerk he reminded me of this guy in high school and i was like fuck you. Oh my god thank you that's going back a long way to hold a grudge i have written. You off oh dude i hold grudges against people for for it. Doesn't die i do but usually that's just in the real.

World Mine might expand all layers. Yeah, that's true. It does. Hers goes beyond time and space. You finally convinced me to watch Predator.

Yes. I had never realized. Oh, my God. I've never seen all of it all the way through. Oh, what?

It's over. Now we're... I can't stand Arnold Schwarzenegger. I can't. His one-liners are so terribly awesome.

They're so awesome. It's ridiculous. Stick to the road. Come on. The movie was fun.

I loved. Jesse the Body? No. Sonny Landon. Sonny Landon.

Billy is cool. He was awesome. Which one to see? He's the guy with the mask. The American Indian.

Yeah. Okay. Billy. He was awesome. And then I made Jay watch a movie.

Was it Night Before Last? Oh, good Lord, yeah. Another sci-fi original. I'm a big fan. I'm telling you, we need a theme song for this thing.

We watched High Plains Invaders. It was a western starring James Marster. Who's James Marster? Buffy. Spike.

Yeah. As a cowboy. I love that. Setting a western with bugs. Giant.

No. You didn't get it right. Giant. Spalien. Spalien.

Alien space bugs. Spanish bugs? Giant alien space bugs. Hola. That were coming to this small western town for their uranium.

Okay. Sounds so good especially when Jay Marks just said I'm telling you get. Your hand off my uranium it was. Awesome beyond words and then it was just so horrible at the same time there was this one the bounty hunter chick who talked like this the whole movie. She had the best accent yeah you couldn't tell it sounded like she had a mouthful of cheetos with the southern drawl and that.

Was uttered several. Times nice nice the guns were uh laser no not period correct okay he. Was calling them out too. Yeah i was like these guns aren't even. Correct they're not even using you're not even trying at this.

Point yeah they're bringing out like a long slide 45s or something you've got a glow like one guy has a cult python and somebody else has a what like a 38 special. And you've got a glock in the old west what the fuck. Yeah just because it's a wheel gun doesn't mean yeah exactly. Somebody said find a revolver quick and i'm in the west. Right yeah and i'm pretty sure at the end of the movie when they were going they're going on the road i'm pretty sure you get to the back of the set.

Yeah, because you see they're outside the town, but you can see the face of the main building and all the wooden supports holding. It up in the background. Not even just once. You see it three or four times. There's like a gripper, a gaffer wandering into the shop.

Did you miss the sci-fi at the beginning? You really should have seen that coming. I don't care. I love sci-fi movies. Sci-fi movies are awesome.

Dude's going to an ATM machine. This is lot security. Come on, it's iPhone. Back up. And then I watched Love Object, which was okay.

It was mediocre at best. It was about a guy who kind of has a crush on a girl, but he has no people skills whatsoever, so. He finds a... Josh? Yeah, who, what?

So he orders this love doll or whatever, and he has her made her look like the girl he has. A crush on. Yeah, I've got one of those on order. Oh, and he never. But then he actually goes out with the real girl.

Wait, does this have, like, somebody famous in it? That's Desmond Harrington in it. Oh, okay. Who's the guy who survives from Wrong Turn, which I love Wrong Turn. It was filmed in Eastern Kentucky.

The original long-term? I like two better than one. Pretty much. But yeah, so he falls in love with the love doll, but then the real girl actually pays attention to him, so he starts going out with her, and then the love doll gets jealous. Oh, those damn love dolls.

The love doll's jealous, and it's like calling him and threatening him. What? Like, really, or in his mind? In his head, he's fucked up. Wow.

Is it like a Zuni fetish doll, the little gold necklace fall off of it and he came to stab him? Well, then he decides to kill the love doll, so he kills her and cuts her into little bitty pieces. And then, yeah. Oh, my God. But then she's still calling and threatening him.

Yeah. So he decides he wants her back, but then the garbage has already came. Oh! Sue's got touches of Roman in there, too. Yeah, this is awesome.

So then he decides he's going to make, after the credit card company rejects his order for his new love doll, he decides he wants to make his own. So he's going to plasticize the girl that he falls in love with, the real girl. Oh, God, Tori. Hurry it just into a love doll Wowzers. Yeah it's a It's a Wow This is complicated That's pretty tight Shenanigans Wackiness.

Ensues This is going way too far For sex. Yeah I watched And then I watched Some fear It's love It's not sex It's the love I watched some episodes Of fear itself But I'll only get in One of the episodes I watched Because it pissed me off And I was It's very rare That I actually yell At the TV For making me mad But it was an episode I'm pretty sure It was called The Circle It was about an author Who wrote a book And all his friends Are at the party And he's pissed some girl off So she put a curse on him So his book's going to come true. But anyway, the girl goes evil. And they try to lock her. They said they're going to lock her in the bathroom.

The door opens in. They decide to block her in the bathroom. They're going to push her in, pull the door closed, and put a chair underneath it. Okay. And that holds her in.

She has to break the door down to get out. Because she couldn't open the door in. No. Yeah. I was mad.

That only works with doors that open out. I was dealing with the TV, but they weren't listening to me. Unless they did it on purpose. Somebody actually did that recently. There's an older movie where they actually... have to do that because of like just logistics of where they were in the set at the time they had to set it up that way even though if you're paying attention the door opens in and then somebody recently did it as like their own little homage to it they set up their situation i think it was the coen brothers did something like that in lebowski that set up like it's yeah it is it's in lebowski yeah they did the same thing and then they open the door and the Chair just falls over.

Yeah, so it was, yeah. But the door didn't, that's the thing, the chair didn't fall, the chair held the crazy bitch in there. See, I think they just weren't paying attention. They weren't like geniuses like the fucking Coen brothers. Maybe she was just stupid.

I'm like, seriously, she had to break the door down. Literally break her crazy ass out of the bathroom. I've had to go unlock professors out of their offices before because they refused to turn the knob to the right. Yeah. It's like the knob, whatever door it was, the knob turned to the left to open.

Well, I shouldn't have to turn it to the left. It should be turned to the right. Well, you're a dumbass. That's how you get out of the power door. Maybe when you're just possessed with evil, you can't fucking function a doorknob properly.

I guess. Hmm. Those guys are obsessed with evil. Jesus. Oh, well.

Hmm. Oh, I forgot to talk about we went to the casino last night. I know. I wanted to go to the casino. I wish you guys would have told me that you were going.

Good to lose money. Yeah, we would have been home by the time we got out of there. Oh, really? That's not bad at all. I only ever spend like $ 4 to $ 5.

Me too. I had to borrow a dollar from Brian. Yeah, I spent a whole dollar aside from the one I gave you. I was ahead for a while. I had like $ 4.

And then I was like, oh, I'm going to get more. And then I lost it all. Wow. That's how they get you. That green took over.

That's how they get you. Jesse won 44 cents. Yep. Ooh. That's pretty exciting.

44 cents ahead. Nice. I like the monster one because it's only $ 2. It's two pennies for each credit. Because we're cheap.

You get 50 credits for a dollar. We are low-level gambling. It's the best kind. I once walked in with $ 5 and walked out with $ 45. I felt pretty good about my life.

Went and got some lobster tail. Buffet style. Went to Vegas and got some tail. I won $ 20 once, but I didn't know it until the lady next to me told me. I was like, what's happening?

What's going on? It's flashing lights and sounds and noise. Should I run? All right, so now. Hey, look, Marlena's here.

What did you do this week? Oh, did Jay not go over his week's work? I already went over it. I didn't do anything. I actually watched quite a few movies.

The first one, which I thought was really awesome, it was an education. It had Peter. Sarsgaard, who I love. Sarsgaard is awesome. Everything he's in is awesome.

I'm completely unfamiliar with him. Is he the bad guy? Um. Peter Sarsgaard, he was in Jarhead as the other sniper, like his spotter, I guess. He was in The Orphan.

He was the father in The Orphan. I don't know. He's got this weird kind of handsome thing about him that I like. He's awesome. Yeah, and he's just awesome.

So I was super excited about this movie because it was set in the 1960s, which I love. And I really like this movie, and it kind of had a Lolita story, which I love, but it was just really good. What's it called? In Education. In Education.

You've heard really good things. It was up for an Oscar this past year. Yeah. Did you ever read my Lolita book? I did.

I need to bring it back. Is it good? It's really good. Did you ever watch my Gator movie? I did.

I need to bring that back. That was really sad. Yeah, it's sad. He was top of the world, and then he just. Like I said, man, I was a huge Gator fan, and I remember that ad.

In Transworld I think it was Transworld or Thrasher that came out where he was Mark Anthony and everybody was. Like dude fuck you man you sold. Out did you watch anything else Marlena? Yes I actually had a whole bunch to talk about on that movie and education but I didn't write it down and now I'm just like I don't remember any of it I liked it it was good I. Like young school girl just say that but.

I also watched Where the Wild Things Are Was it depressing? It was horribly depressing. I really liked it. I liked it too. I really liked it.

You know, it's like I have mixed feelings on this movie because I'm always complaining how movies don't really tackle deep subjects. Like children's movies don't tackle deep subjects. This is what happens when they do. Yeah. Like this child from the beginning was really sad.

Like he was like manically depressed. Like the movie starts off and he's like sad and lonely and his sister's friend smashes snow for her and he's just crying and it's the saddest thing ever and then he goes and smashes all the stuff in her room And then it's just like laying in his bed, crying, looking really depressed. It was so bleak. See, I like that part. I like the first third of the movie better than when he goes to...

I think that whole part of it is just amazingly well put together. And that's why I think he's such a good director is just that first third of it, really. Yeah, and then he runs away from his mother after biting her. Biting her? He bit her.

He's a monster. What do you want? He was a wolf. I like the part he stands on the counter and yells, make me some food, woman. Make me some food, woman.

That part was awesome, but yes. In reality, that child probably would have been. Been beaten. Within an inch of his life. But after he bites her and runs away, he gets in a boat and boats for a long time and comes upon this land of monsters.

And he's in constant peril of being eaten, always. Like, even though he becomes their king and they love him. Which they don't ever go into in the book. I like some of the things they throw in on this movie. It's interesting.

From what I've seen, I really liked it. Yeah, they're pretty much going to eat him at any given point. It's just really. Dark and scary, and the monsters have serious things going on. Well, they're all representations of his life.

They're different parts of what's wrong with his life, basically. Again, it's really interesting what they did with it. It's just not a kid's movie. Yeah, it is definitely not a kid's movie. I mean, even the fun monster play content I don't think would be enough to hold.

A child's interest. It might, but I mean, there's like 10 minutes total in like a two plus hour movie. It's like two and a half hours almost. I think my kid liked it, if I remember correctly. Yeah.

I mean, visually, it's amazing. On top of that, once he gets there, it's just amazing to look at. But yeah, I can see it being a hard watch for kids. I'm the only kid in the world that never read the book. I've never read the book.

You didn't have a spare five minutes. Yeah. There's like 10 sentences in it. Yeah. One of those things that just never crossed my path.

It sits upstairs if you want. I'll go get it right now. I would recognize the characters, like some of them, but I never had the book. I like the characters' names, Ira and Judith and KW and Carol. These are just.

Not monster names. Er, Carol. Yeah. Dude, why do you sound like Tony Soprano? Kept expecting him like pull out a.

Gun yeah it was a part where kw eats him to hide him yeah carol and i like the raccoons. In there yeah just chilling just. Like the part i mean like i was like disturbed she pulled him out. Of her mouth he's like all covered with. Slaughters disturbing like it's a weird and that's why i give it credit it's like it doesn't it doesn't really softball any of the stuff it does weird stuff and kids have to watch it and i like.

The description i'm not really sure what to think about. Yeah who's uh what is the hawk's name um oh yeah the arm yeah he pulls his arm off and then he like replaces it with a little stick yeah it's awesome guys. Yeah and uh the little um owls what were their names bill and terry yeah and uh Carol is standing in the fort. That was just fun. Carol's standing in the fort, and he says, I thought, he's like, I think this fort is broken.

It's supposed to cut out the brains of anyone that we don't want to be in here. Whoa. Yeah. But I also tried to watch Sherlock. Holmes, but I just couldn't get into it.

That was horrible, wasn't it? I mean, I don't know. It was boring. I didn't know. I'll tell you, it's watched like the first five seconds.

It kind of reminds me of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I wanted to like that movie. I wanted to like that movie, but I could not sit through it. I don't know why. I've tried to watch it three or four times, and I just couldn't get into it.

It has Stuart Townsend in it. That's why I don't like League. Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I don't like Stuart Townsend. Nobody likes him.

I hate him ever since the Queen of the Damned. Oh, him? You mean Dorian Gray? He's tight. What about Dorian Gray?

I mean, I like the whole idea of it. You know, Sean Connery. I mean, come on, Sean Connery. I just didn't get into it for some reason. Why?

Why couldn't I get into it? Yeah, I mean, I was talking on the phone when I was watching this movie, so that's probably a good reason. I've tried to watch it like four times, but I fell asleep the first night, the second night. I think even Jay was falling asleep during it. Yeah, I was, but that was partially because of work and stuff like that.

And partially because the movie sucked. Yeah, yeah. She's like, did you fall asleep? Like, no, if I have to stay awake during this, you do too. You better wake up.

Yeah, yeah, man. But I've been just running movies from the Red Box at Walgreens, and it's actually kind of cool. They usually don't have very good movies, but they had a few movies that I've wanted to see, so. That's where I rented it. I wonder if there's these little pods everywhere now.

I might just do one more. Or not one more. McDonald's. I know. Everywhere.

I was really excited. I think when that first came out, the first movie I ever rented was the Reno 911 movie. And I never watched it. But I think it was the novelty of getting a movie out of this big red box in McDonald's. Next thing you know, they're going to be in your driveway. that'd be cool they'll just be beamed directly to your house that's the real next step what the hell just beam it in your head I forgot that's.

The other thing we watched we watched the first season of Dexter oh yeah we did I finally got past that guy's face enough to watch the. First season of Dexter because he's awesome I like him from six feet under I like his face I can't stand his face on the DVD covers he does that smirky I just want to punch him in the throat and I can't stand him so now that it's actually. On Netflix Misty doesn't like a lot of people that's true I. Hate Meg Ryan I hate I mean, I hate that Ryan, her eyebrows are too far apart. It'll be a shorter list if we make the list of people you like.

Yeah. Yeah. You just look at her wrong and she doesn't like you. That's true. But yeah, so we actually sat down and watched the first season of Dexter and I really liked it.

I really liked everything about it. I thought it was completely awesome. It's great. It's awesome. So yay for Dexter.

I think that's a really good idea. Just, like, the idea of what Dexter does. I think we need one. And I think it's original. Like, we've seen so many, like, serial killer movies over the years.

This is the first time I saw something like, wow, that's totally different. I mean, it's a serial killer. Yeah. It's just well put together. A serial killer who kills a serial killer.

I'm down with that. I can support that. And somebody who's just watching the legal system, watching who's filtering through the big holes in the legal system, and taking care of that problem. That's pretty cool, actually. Not that you can officially get on board for that, but...

We need real Dexters. Yeah, we kind of do. Multiple. Except most people aren't that smart. They just randomly kill the wrong people all the time.

He does that sometimes. Yeah, not too often. At least twice, though. Oops. What do you want?

Can't make an omelette without breaking some skull. I think my favorite part about Dexter, normally after I watch a show so many times, I fast forward through the opening credits. We always do. I love the opening credits of Dexter. I know, I watch it every time.

And it's like the blood dripping. Yeah. And like the bacon is. I was excited when I saw an episode that had Sam Tramiel in it, and I love Sam Tramiel, so I was excited because he plays Sam on True Blood, and I got excited because Sam was there. And your episodes start this week, Dexter?

I'm thinking of true blood yeah i've not watched true blood i read some of the books i read all the books. I tried i think i have all the books but they're not labeled. And i can tell you what order later yeah my favorite. Is so gorgeous yeah. I can't wait good times so does that round out our.

Geek week yeah that's a long geek week. All right fantastic Well, we will take a break. And on the way, I'll go ahead and throw in a little music here, only to appease a few of our listeners. It's sad that not one, more than one of our listeners wrote in and was upset that I didn't work in Don Johnson's heartbeat last week. How did you not put that in there?

Because he's not saying heart beeps at all. And I told him I was saving it up for a full-on Don Johnson episode. So we won't play the entire one. We'll just get a little clip to tide you guys over. We'll go ahead and throw a little of that in there.

Just do that. Make the listeners happy. That's what we do. We do. We satisfy the whatever.

Next. Okay. All right. So we will take a break and be back with What's the Buzz? That's the way it's got to be Everybody.

If you like horror movies, exploitation films, and underground... and cult films, why not check out Outside the Cinema? You gotta tell them! Www.outsidethecinema.com You're a smart motherfucker. Hey man, I try. Hello, this is.

Sonny Landon welcoming you to Movie Meltdown. Oh, this is a chopper. Look at me. It's easy to see. You're thinking this is how I feel.

Do me wrong, and if I beg you not, for my reckless heart. Will heal, I'm looking for love. All right, we are back with What's the Buzz? Groovy. What exactly is the buzz?

What's going on? Oh, Lord. What are we. We didn't. This actually was sort of the end of the last weekend, so maybe everybody had already heard it, but we didn't really discuss it.

So, yeah, this past week, we found out that Guillermo del Toro is going to have to step down from doing the next Hobbit movies. One thing's never going to get made. He's been working on it for two years, and now because MGM's having their financial problems, they keep delaying everything, and he's got five different movies on the back burner now waiting, and he's to the point of, you know what, I've got to do other stuff. Yeah, screw this. This is never going to happen.

Yeah, he's actually still going to work on it. He's still going to be a producer of some level. He's still working on the writing, but yeah, he's not going to be directing. Hmm. That kind of sucks.

That's so sad. But at the same time, it's like, it sucks for Hobbit fans, but really like for movie fans, this is good because it now gives him a chance to make the five movies that are in his queue waiting to be made. He's still like all the ones we've been talking about the last two years, you know, it's like, he's got a Frankenstein version he wants to do. He's got a Lovecraft movie he wants to do. He's doing like a Kurt Vonnegut movie.

So it's like, He's got all these big properties waiting to be done, and Hobbit's just been, you know, gumming up the work. So, for Guillermo del Toro fans, I mean, it's actually a good thing that he can actually make a movie now and not be sitting around waiting for this to work. But, yeah, for the Hobbit, yeah, I don't know what to think. I mean, the fact that everybody's still involved is good, but... who knows who they're going to pass it on to somewhere down the line. Yeah, really.

Hopefully just come back around later on again. Or worse, I mean, it's sad that your fallback is going to be Peter Jackson because he already said, but this was the quote, If I have to, I'll direct. I'm like, well, you don't want that. Yeah, exactly. And it would kind of be cool to see a different take now.

It's like, we've seen that land through his eyes. It's like, what if we gave it to somebody else equally talented? But I don't know if it falls back to him. It's like, well, this is just part four and five. I just want to see small.

Yeah. It's like, we've already seen that. I wonder who they'll give it to. Brett Radner. Michael Bay.

Spike Lee. Oh, God. No, Michael Bay. No, Michael Bay. Oh, Jesus.

Can you make smog explode? Yeah. Just at the end, he just burst into flame. He was your dragon. He had fire in him.

It was bound to happen eventually. And then there are helicopters in slow motion in the background for some reason. Like, oh, God, you just can't leave them out, can you? It's a time-traveling helicopter. Look.

But at least if Michael Bay didn't make it, Fox would probably not be in it. That's true. We don't need her. Oh, Lord. So, after months of rumor and speculation, we have a new casting for the Avengers.

I don't know. This one's interesting because it's the only one that so far has been cast and hasn't been in other movies. Like, everybody else we know because they're in all the other movies. Now they have cast Hawkeye, and it's going to be Jeremy Renner from The Hurt Locker. Nice.

He can be a good Hawkeye. Yeah, he's a good actor, so I can actually see that working. But yeah, we've already got everybody else from the other movies cast, so this is the first original character kind of thrown in there. Yeah. I wonder how much of the Avengers the actual story they're going to do.

It's pretty rough. They wipe out his family and then he just goes berserk. That would be kind of cool, actually, just to have a real story thrown in there instead of just... I don't know. They're already, like, throwing so much in.

But, like, Iron Man 2, they were just working in ridiculous... Well, just, like, little inside jokes and all this stuff to the point where I'm like, there's too much being thrown at the screen. And this was just in another movie. Side nonsense in the middle of another movie. So when we've got a movie that's nothing but all this stuff crammed together, I don't know.

It's like I'm hoping Joss sort of pulls it together because, I mean, that's the only hopeful thing about this is that he's now working on it. It can be a big mess, yeah. Yeah, otherwise it seems like it could be so much stuff thrown into one movie. It could be awesome, but it could be just a huge mass of train wreck. So, yeah.

Who knows? And while we're on superhero news, Nolan has said there will be, and this makes sense and I can't see how he could have done it any other way. Christopher Nolan said there will be no Joker in the next Batman movie. Thank God. How could you even imagine casting somebody else at this point?

I mean, that would be stupid on his part. He still hasn't named who the new villain is going to be. Is Christian Bale still going to? Of course he is. I heard that he didn't want to do Batman anymore.

He'll cash a paycheck. We know it. Well, you know, he was, like, a hot actor for a while, but I think he was just such a dick and so hard to work with. Like, he's not in movies anymore, if you haven't noticed. He hasn't really done anything.

I liked him after his exploding. Yeah, I thought that was hilarious. I have more respect for him. I feel you on that. Oh, good for you.

Oh, good for you. That made me like him more. I'm sorry. It doesn't go off like that at work. I mean, who doesn't want to, you know, exactly.

I don't know. I can't see why he would not want to do it, especially at this point in his career, because he really doesn't have a ton of new stuff at this point. So, I don't know. We'll see, I guess, but They are working on the script, and so stuff's coming on board as far as, you know, he's got his brother working on the screenplay, which is also good because he's a hell of a writer. So it should be good, whatever they're bringing in on it.

I don't know. All right. I know we love the biopics on this show. We love some biopics. But I had to throw this one in because it's got a little extra bonus.

So plans for a biopic about slain rapper Tupac Shakur. He ain't dead. He ain't dead. He's hiding. He's making more albums.

He's been in the works for several years now. Is he going to be in the movie? Yeah. He's going to play himself. It appears this movie will finally start filming in September.

That's the word from director Antoine Fuqua. Oh, nice. That's one of the most awesome names to say. That was the whole reason for me pulling this out. I just wanted to say Fuqua one more time.

It's known as Julianna Magaliz. Magaliz. It's a good one, too. The other day I was listening to the Oldies Station, and they were talking about this old doo-wop group. That one of the guy's names was his, it was something Fuqua.

And the guy kept going, Fuqua. And he just kept saying it over and over and like bringing up his name as much. I was like, oh my God, is this like Brian's long lost brother? I think he's just listening to our show, ripping me off. That's what it is.

What a hack. Anyway, so yeah, mostly it was just to say Antoine Fuqua. But yeah, they said it was revealed that last week that we were talking about that he's supposed to be directing the tomb. But apparently that will have to wait because Tupac's more important. So the Notorious movie, you know, it was actually pretty good.

I've avoided it so far, but I've heard decent things about it. It was enjoyable. Watch it and get you. That would be the end. That was enjoyable.

It's at the beginning and the end, so get it twice. Two for one special. He's a big man. There's a lot of things you can miss. But what are they going to name it?

Are they going to name it, like, because it's notorious. Tupac didn't really have, like, a... A nickname, so to speak. Except Tupac. Thug life, I think.

Thug life? Yeah. Maybe. The life of time. Living the Vita Thug Life?

Yikes. Didn't make sense. Oh, man. Tupacalypse now. Nice.

Shit. Water almost came out of Roger's nose. Very good. That was worth it, though. That was actually...

Wow. So, yeah. If he doesn't play himself in the movie, what's our casting now? Will Smith. Are we going with, again, as I suggested last week, please not Chris Tucker.

Not Chris Tucker, not Will Smith, and not Nick Cannon. Oh, Nick Cannon. One of the Williams brothers. Oh, Sean? Sean's the pretty one.

I like Sean. But I realized once again earlier in the week as I watched it, Marlon wasn't horrible in that movie. I was shocked by this. Which one? Or Tyson Bedford?

Um. Baby Boy, the guy that played Baby Boy. That was Tyrese. I don't think he could play a good Tupac. Tyson Bedford would be good too.

Jim Carrey. He's a chameleon. Yeah. He's going to throw himself into the role. Robert Downey Jr.

There you go. Only if he's method enough that he gets himself shot. Oh, that might be good, actually. We wouldn't have to sit through any more of that. Robert Downey Jr.

He was good in Tropic Thunder. He made a great black man. I didn't think I was going to like that movie at all, but it was hilarious. I wanted to hate it. I'm like, God, it's going to be horrible.

I like Jack Black's part. It's tied up to that tree. Just the things coming out of his mouth are just gold. The fact that I didn't realize it was Tom Cruise from The Good Fortune of the movie. Yeah.

Alright. Jesus. You know what? You love it. It's time for the remakes of the week.

I do not like the plural sounding in this. Or possibly the reimaginings in these cases. Oh, is this the one I emailed you the other day? This one Misty must want us to talk about because she sent it to me the other day. So do you want to out this one?

They are going to reboot The Crow. We knew that. We talked about that a long time ago. Why are you going to remake the original Crow? There's...

Made in like 1990. It's still awesome. There's a whole new generation of Hot Topic kids that just weren't around when that came out. That's old for them. They can't watch that.

Their generation crow, you know? Who are they going to put in as Brennan Lee? Zach? Joking that would be so funny i just imagine him with like black hair and white actually no no. That weird kid that i was that weird kid from veronica mars that they put in like every role is like.

The dark beaver beaver is gonna be the new crow beaver is crow no i was thinking. It's crossbreeding animals now i'm into bioengineering genetics you know i do that Now I was thinking with your suggestion last week, we can throw some Drake in there. Right? Drake Bell is the crow. God help us.

I could see that. I don't want to see that. Please. It's on the Disney Channel now. Like, make it night.

I like the original movie, and all I got to say is fuck you and fuck the rest. Of the franchise. Yeah, I mean they're all pretty bad three is almost watchable, but the. Other two were Horrible first one's the only one the rest of them all suck ass. He still wasn't that great, but the plot was watchable in the third one.

But that's the one with what's-his-name Terminator 2 boy No, that's the fourth one. That's the fourth one? The fourth one is four. David Boreanaz? Yes.

And Tara Reade? Yes. And Dennis Hopper. We brought this up last week. Why would David Boreanaz and Dennis Hopper do that to themselves?

Because they gave him a check. Yeah, they pretty much do anything. Yeah, pretty much. Dennis Hopper has a lot of movies like that. Yes, yes he does.

He's not afraid. He's fantastically awesome in all of them. He's not afraid to cash a check. These days he's probably not going to be cashing a check. I don't think I've ever seen Space Truckers.

Yeah, it's fun. I wonder what happened to the girl that played Sarah in The Crow. That's the only movie she ever did. Really? Yeah.

She never did anything else. She did a convention not too long ago, right? Yeah, but she's never done any other movies. She was the kid, right? Yeah.

She's never done any other movies. I looked it up. I'm like, what the hell? She was awesome in that movie. She was.

She was a great actress. How has she never done anything else? She's hanging out with the kid from The Shining now. Yeah. So, yeah, as if it wasn't enough trouble that they're trying to remake The Crow, this is This is just bad news.

So, yeah, the producer, Edward Pressman, says, things are moving ahead very aggressively with the aim of doing this film this year. But then it goes on, and let's see, what's the next quote here? The next quote is from Stephen Norrington, who's the director of Blade, and again, not a terrible direction to go, but his quote is, the producer and visual effects people were crunching numbers. And, yeah, to me, that doesn't mean they're putting a whole lot of thought or artistic planning behind this. It's what can we do to make money.

What can we do to cash in on the name that is The Crow and the fan base that is out there waiting to watch it and love it or bitch about it. Regardless, they will still pay money to see it. So, yeah, that's what worries me is that, you know, at least the first one, you know, they had a good director. Visually, it's amazing. They went into it trying to deliver a good movie.

And that's why the first one holds up. That's why the first one's still a good movie. Everybody's kind of sick of the whole property at this point because they ruined it with these sequels. But the first one's a good movie. Aren't they wanting to take it and make the crow, the actual crow itself, a more important character?

They want to make it more prominent. Yeah, it goes, let's see. It says, the version will not only boast a new look, which is trouble, thanks to illustrations from Avatar production designer. That's not good. They're all going to be blue now.

But it says, if we will also see the crow become an actual creature that's not just a bird, it's got a personality and a character and has a more active role in the story. It's got quirky one-liners. It's voiced by Owen Wilson. God help us. So did they just completely cut J.O.

Barr out of everything? I'm trying to decide, did he like sell off? all cinematic rights to it because if not he should be smacked for letting all this happen but i'm sure he got screwed in the deal and yeah i'm sure most of them generally do yeah do. You remember how horrible the tv show was no i never yeah. I was sad because it had uh mark mark the casco. He's actually yeah he's actually good he was a.

Good he's a good martial artist he's a pretty good actor but uh If anybody's ever seen The Crying Freeman, that's probably, I think, one of the best films he's done. Brotherhood of the Wolf. Have you seen that? Brotherhood of the Wolf was made. He's awesome.

So why he ended up in that show, I don't know. I don't know. I guess at. The time it seemed like a good idea. He was doing a lot of drugs at that time.

I think they said he was the closest they could get to a Brandon Lee. Now he just makes food for a living. I forgot that he's the same guy. I forgot that the Iron Chef guy is the same guy that was in that. I knew that a long time ago.

I purged that from my brain. Oh, Lord. So, yeah, that's... Petal of cucumber. Petal of cucumber.

So that's bad news, but we at least knew that Crow was coming. This one, I guess, really, I didn't know, but shouldn't surprise anybody, really. But the fact that who they're involving in this is even scarier. Brett Ratner is looking to do Snow White. Why?

I don't know. Okay, whatever. No comment. Well, he's looking to do what Tim Burton did for Alice in Wonderland, basically. Like live action?

Yeah, he's going to do a live action version, and he's jumped on board to produce an edgier version. That was already done. It was a movie with Sigourney Weaver a few years ago. It's actually good. It's got Kristen, what's her name in it?

I think everybody forgot about that. From Smallville? Oh, Kristen Crook? Yeah. No, no, no, not that one.

Not that one. That's the same one. No. No, there's an older one. There's an older one.

Yeah, I have it. It's a dark, it's really dark. Yeah. Yeah. I thought that's the one with Sigourney Weaver.

No. No, because that one was like long, like in the 90s. Yeah, in the 90s. And then the Kristen Crook was like. That seemed like it was dark.

I mean. That one was pretty. Dark, too. No, not that one. Not the girl from Smallville, but the girl that plays Snow White is really.

Pretty, but. Okay, yeah, that is a different one. She's not a. I don't know. Either one of those are pretty decent, actually.

I've... I think I've seen both of those. And yeah, so I mean, it's not like we've never seen this before. It's just never had like a big budget, huge version, which I don't know if putting Rat in your mind is the way to go. But yeah, I don't know.

He wants to do, according to them, a less Disney-fied, you know, darker tones of the Brothers Grimm idea, which I think they're tentatively titling it the Brothers Grimm colon, which hopefully they'll spell colon. We'll have to do Princess and the Pea. I want to see a dark version of that. I want to see a dark version of Humpty Dumpty. They could do that.

Don't tell Tim Burton because he will. And Johnny Depp will. Be in it. He's in everything Tim Burton does. It'll be Humpty Dumpty.

Tim Burton is in it. So yeah, they're saying skip the woodland animals. The drawers are going to be robbers and they're making it. Here you go. There's a dragon going to be in it so you can have your smog in it.

Yeah, that's cool. Gotta put a damn dragon in everything. That's exactly. The two movies that were already made, though. Like less than 10 years ago.

Here's the difference, though. It's going to be in 3D. Holy poof. Of course. so I don't know what do you think of the guy who brought us Rush Hour making Snow White is he gonna put Chris Tucker yes as Snow White Chris Tucker Jackie Chan he'll be Doc he'll be Doc yeah Lord I. Think Sam Neill was in the Snow White movie that I'm thinking of yeah.

Yeah that's the one okay I was meshing them into one big movie at this point yeah but yeah that one is pretty good. Yeah that one is really good I know Samuel's so great. I mean, there's a ton of other children's books that they have yet to turn into movies. Like, why do they keep redoing the same thing over and over? When's the pokey little puppy going to be?

A darker, edgier, pokey little puppy. The little engine that's so weird. Yeah. That's what we need. Sexy, edgy puppy.

Let's make this puppy sexy. What is this? Pokey little puppy was sad. I mean, he was neglected by his mother. Just because he was, like, a slow, retarded puppy.

And that justifies him killing all those people? Oh, wait. In my movie. You're going to have a back story on an abused puppy. Pocula puppy's got a grenade launcher somewhere.

All right. Was there any other buzz this week? We're going to round out the buzz, but we will go into this week's interview. This week we're talking to Bill Diamond, who is a puppeteer, designer, producer, and creator of Monster TV Network. Awesome.

I love Bill Diamond. He also worked on Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and The Dark Crystal. Nice, nice. That's amazing if you ask me. Which playthrough?

In just a short while, he will experience the wonder of the Dark Crystal. I miss, like, in elementary school, puppets used to come to our school on a regular basis and put on, like, the show in the auditorium. The puppets themselves? Yeah, they've got, like, the sticks hanging from their wrists and, like, piloting. Yeah, and some puppets.

No, people, they were, like, giant puppets, like, on people's backs and stuff like that. And the people would wear black suits and, like, dance around and do puppets. Gotcha, gotcha. Do puppet things. We used to do that for church.

No, it was amazing. Loved it. They did a whole grim fairy tale one. Or maybe it was just Hansel and Gretel because that's the only one I remember. Why didn't they make a Hansel and Gretel movie?

Yeah, exactly. They are going to do a sci-fi. They're doing a whole series of those. They're going to do Red Riding Hood, and they're going to do Ransom and Gretel. Yep.

I would like to see a Red Riding Hood movie. Yeah, sci-fi. They've done a lot of those. They'll all get together as one big band. All the girls are together.

Yeah. Well, they actually did a version. And fight all the Disney princesses. I think it's online. There's a movie they did like that.

Oh, really? They took all the fairy tale heroines and they all got together and like kicked ass. They became like this feminist organization that didn't shave their armpits and only listened to Bikini Kill. Hey, I like Bikini Kill. You would.

Bikini Kill's fucking awesome. Oh, Lord. Oh, jeez. I don't know about the armpits thing, but that's a whole different story. Bikini Kill.

They'll die in a minute. When are they starting, though? Are they stopping? I don't know. They're shooting them now, I think, so probably the end of this year, beginning.

Of next year. It takes them like six days to make one of those movies, so it can't be that long. Didn't they already cast Amanda Seyfried as going to be like the first Red Riding Hood? I think so. I think that's what we said.

I did too. That was a lot of luck. She was adorable in Mean Girls. I love her in Veronica Moore. She's becoming weird now, though.

She's becoming weird, go-to romantic drama movie girl. I don't know what's up with that. Yeah. What was that other movie? That other stupid movie that she was.

A dear John? Electric Boogaloo. Notebook 2. I built another house. Dude, you got notebooked.

Dude, you got notebooked. So, yes, we will talk to Bill Diamond. And, um... See what he has to say about making movies with puppets? We're here with Phil Diamond.

At what age did you get into puppets in general? Well, actually, I probably really experimented with puppets in my later teens and then got really heavy into it in my early 20s. Of course. As I would have thought. When did you get into it as far as a career, more or less?

I got into it. Probably about 1978. I was really picking out. What I was going to do. I actually had met Fori in 1976, Fori Ackerman.

In 1978, I was doing a number of things with a very young Johnny Henson. at the same time I was doing stuff and then his father was you know involved with some things and then I went and started working doing some things at Sesame Street yeah in the late 70s early 80s. And at that point who all was kind of running that. Show over there Well, it was Children's Television Workshop. Now, I was building my own company at the same time, so I was bouncing around between that, and I wanted to develop my own thing. So it was kind of nice to be able to be doing my own stuff at the same time as doing stuff for Jim.

And my background was television, so I was really heavy into TV outside of puppetry. And then you ended up moving with him to. The Muppet Show? Yeah. Well, I did a number of the things in New York for him.

At the same time, I had developed my. Own studios in New York. He just shot the show in London. But the New York. Office is pretty much where everything was built.

And then it went over there. Were there specific characters or anything that you did on that show? No. At that time, I was very early in my career. I was doing a lot of preliminary stuff for him.

And Dark Crystal was just starting, so we were kind of like spread on both projects. And since Dark Crystal took five years to make, everybody was doing something little with that, the development or what was going on with the Muppets. And again, I still was working on all my own characters, which is what we're doing now. And we built our own studios shortly after that. Yeah, I guess near that same time, I guess right before that was the Muppet movie.

Did you work on the movie of any. Well, there were little elements that came into the New York office. Most things that Jim did were in New York and in London. So it was pretty spread out. Everybody always had. you know, a little something to do with.

Because you had also, you had Sesame Street. Going on at the same time. You also had Hermit Otter's Jugbed's Christmas was in development at that time. So there were a lot of little things. And I wasn't always there.

You know, we would come in. We were all different. And I was doing all my own stuff, which Jim was very supportive. And he really didn't want me to stay in there. He kind of like, you know, you're going to get closed up, do.

Your own thing, which. I didn't understand then, but I definitely understand now. That's interesting. Again, he always seems like such a great person. It's good to know he was supportive of you doing your own work.

He was supportive of many artists. Like, for example, in the labyrinth, a good friend of mine was Michael Motion and John Kahn, and we would do a lot of development circus stuff. Now, most people may not know who Michael was, but he was the guy who actually juggled the. Ball for David Bowie. It wasn't David Bowie that was doing that.

It was Michael. Michael Motion. And in 1979, we were. Doing a show in New York that Jim came to and Michael was performing there and did that whole ball routine. And we were capturing me and Johnny Henson.

And that's where he pretty much started discovering Mike. And again, seven years later, Mike's in the movie. So it shows you how he kind of paid attention to what he was looking for and remembered how those little. Movements would be. That's impressive, yeah.

Just always on at that point, always looking for something. Right. And that's something you. Learn from being around somebody like that. So as far as getting into your own productions, what did you start off with, I guess, in your company?

Well, we were doing a lot of cable was just starting at that point. The difference is that I wanted to build my own studios. Jim didn't have really his own studios. He kind of worked at other studios. I really wanted to have my own studios.

So I felt that all of the stuff that I was going to be doing, I could control. Yeah. So I felt that. The best thing to do at that time was to develop my own. I was into television, developed my own studios.

Where Monster TV sits now is our own sound stages. We have two of them, our scenic shops, our puppet shops. Everything's under one roof. It comes out and it's controlled by us and then it's uploaded to the rest of the world. So everything is in one. contained, which is something Jim never had.

And I'm sure he would have loved that to happen. Yeah, if he made it to today's world, I'm sure technically things would be a lot different in his company. Um, yeah, I think they would be going different ways. I mean, it's, you never know. I mean, you know, he really wanted to make movies.

That's really what he, I don't think at that time he really was going to be a puppeteer in the beginning. So when exactly did you start the current internet show that you have going now? Well, the internet show was, well, it's been a six-year project. But we kind of, from the DVDs with Sarah Karloff, Bill Lugosi, Ron Chaney, and Cortland Hall involved with the project, we wanted to develop a number of relationships and document stuff. So at the same time, we wound up pulling in and waiting for the technology to catch up because a couple of years ago, we couldn't do.

It this way. Yeah. We couldn't upload and control it. So that's what we had to wait. We had to wait until it became a place that And it was everybody else not being able to receive it.

You know, not everyone had high-speed internet. Yeah. Okay. That, you know, we had to wait. It's all changed a lot in just the five years.

Well, most people don't know it because if you kind of think of Hulu, that's only 2006. Yeah. Okay. And that was just, it didn't really rise until 2008. And still the development, the compression wasn't there.

So now we had to, we were even delayed by a year. Yeah. So it's interesting. People don't think that, oh, it's been around. It really hasn't.

It's a whole new world. Yeah. It really hasn't been around. We do kind of a lot of movies and stuff. Were there any specific movies that you'd worked on that you had stories about?

You know.... The fun thing is I've been able to create a lot of my own shows, and that has been fun. But I've been able to work with a lot of great people and a lot of films. So to pick out one, I mean, I've been doing the plant from Little Shop of Horrors for 26 years. If you asked me 26 years.

Ago when I was going on the road tour and I built. The plants, that I would still be doing it. 26 years later, and still performing it, I'd say, oh yeah, well, I'm. Going to make a career as a plant. So, well, I guess I was well planted in this situation anyway.

So, there we go. Nice. So that's still like the touring, like the Broadway series kind of thing? Well, we own the plants. So, I mean, there's other people, but we own these versions that we did for the Mencken tour.

Yeah. And we've been still doing it. I was going to have you tell where people can find you, where to go on the Internet to see your show, or where to look for you online. Well, the great thing about Monster TV is Monstertvnetwork.com. So you can go there every week, brand new shows.

There's always guest stars next week. From whenever it's broadcasted. There's Bela Gossi. Junior and Ron Chaney and everyone will, it comes on the show and the characters. So if you kind of like the Muppet Show, this is kind of like Muppets in Transylvania without being the Muppets.

We're not the Muppets. We're an offshoot of that stuff you grew up with. But if you like monsters, this is the place to have and learn about a lot of great characters. people that are in the industry and have fun with the characters so that's monster tv network.com sounds good all. They won't let you take pictures, but if I could have stayed in there all day, I would have.

I would have never left. I'd just been sitting there talking to Kermit all day. That's just cruel. Why would they not let you take pictures? I know.

It's like, what am I going to do? Does a flash degrade them? Like, you know, whatever. Like, oh, the stuffing. It's the Gartham.

That's the one, the big beetle-looking crustacean ones. Yeah, there's a picture of him standing next to that. I was just in awe of that. I was like, dude, that's awesome. It's so creepy, too.
