The following feature has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised. Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power. What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I am Brian.

And I'm Greg. All right. And we are actually live here on the floor of the Fright Night Film Fest. What's your take on it so far, Greg? Well, I haven't seen much of it.

I've been behind the desk. We've talked to a few people so far. Looks like a lot of fun. I probably want to get up and look around. Mostly I'm just staring at the you-can-buy-every-Nintendo-game-ever-made-on-one-disc kiosk.

I'm sure that's licensed by Nintendo. Entirely. I'm sure much as all those movies over there are completely licensed through each and every studio that put them out. He's got documents for all of them. I believe so, yeah.

Just ask him for them when you buy it. He'll give you a little certificate to go with each one of them. Other than that, let's see. We've seen a fat Jason. That was pretty fun.

A fat Jason that we know could never catch us. You're pretty sure. I mean, and he does walk a whole lot. You'd think he'd shed a few of those pounds. Right.

I think, yeah, he should be a little trimmer. Maybe he's been drinking too much beer recently. That's true. Maybe the camp's not getting as much kids at it this time of year. Maybe it's the economy.

Sitting around just drinking beer. That's true. That's most of America at this point. So I guess, you know, not just the fat new generation of kids getting heavier and heavier. It's also the serial killers out there.

He still may have the mind of a kid. He might be drinking too much Kool-Aid. Who knows? Never can tell. They say Crystal Lake, not Crystal Light.

Wow. So, okay. Anything else we've seen? There's a lot of guys that look like either they never work out or they always work out. There's no deviation.

There's no one regular here. Mostly just that one guy. He actually works out. Everybody else, not so much. Right.

But I can't talk. Yeah, and I was going to say, I include myself in that category. What are you going to do? That's fine. I was impressed a few moments ago.

A kid came by, probably nine, Child's Play 2 shirt on, and he knows infinitely more about horror than I could ever know. He was the real deal. And I just sat here with my jaw open thinking, your dad lets you watch this? So I'm impressed. That's awesome.

I want to see his DVD collection. We need more kids like that. And I'm sure if he can watch those kind of movies, he can listen to our, you know, whatever sort of horrible language we've thrown out there that week. So I'm sure his parents are fine with that. Oh, yeah.

No. Definitely. He's heard it all. Before, I'm sure. And then we also took it upon ourselves to get a beverage.

Yes. The staff here were very kind. I asked about 11 people for a cup of coffee. even though it's about 100 degrees here in the facility. Yeah, we're a special breed. We do things a little differently.

The staff was very polite and kind and even took me to the kitchen to show me how I could get some coffee. He made us a pot of coffee. He made us a pot of coffee just for the two of us. So we're this extra special VIP. Yeah, we've considered ourselves VIP.

We don't really have those fancy passes like some of the guys walking around do, but we did get coffee made for us special. That beat that. That's pretty awesome, right? I'm going to write VIP on my name tag with a sharpie. I'm going to write it on my coffee cup, because it's the only VIP action I'm getting rid of right now.

It's fancy coffee. Well, Brian, what have you seen that you like so far? Have you seen anything new? I've set up the table, and that's pretty much it so far. So.

I wandered around trying to find our table, and then that's about it. So this truly is day one. Yeah, this is day one of our adventures here at the Fright Night Film Fest. I don't know if there's anything else I've seen that I can comment on. I don't want to comment on the people passing by, because they might listen.

Oh, it didn't stop us last year. We did have an awesome conversation with a woman explaining to her about the Trilogy of Terror that we've just recently gone into. Would you like to comment on your thoughts on the Film Fest, sir? I just got here. I don't know yet.

How was Zombie Stock? You were over there. This is Mr. Dave Pollard. Artist extraordinaire.

It was pretty cool. Did you see the music involved? No, I actually mostly sit over in the corner wondering where my friend was supposed to show up with my food who never showed up. This is how these film fests go. All I've seen is this table right here.

All you saw was that guy not bringing you food. I was wondering why people could be zombies at that point. Eat somebody. Boom! So eventually you ate someone's brains.

I'll put it in the cooler. I'm going to save it. If I don't get something else, I'm going to have something to fall back on. It's good to have, you know, leftovers. All right.

We will be here if I can escape. I'll probably just be here all day. See? Newsflash, ladies and gentlemen. We just had Fat Jason and the Michael Myers, who's much thinner than Jason, both check out the... buy every Nintendo game ever on one disc.

And they looked like they both wanted to purchase it. I was thinking they were actually the... Although that's Alien vs. Predator. The Friday the 13th game is up there.

Yeah, the NES version. The NES version. Old school model. But I wanted to see them throw down. Slashers have a lot of free time on their hands.

I guess when not stabbing people, you know, you've got to find something to kill all the rest of these hours of the day. Absolutely. So. All the things you see here. Yeah.

Yeah. I can't even comment. I'm sorry. That guy's wearing my shirt. It's pretty awesome.

Motherfucker's wearing my shirt. Motherfucker, take my shirt off. Groovy. I guess we can move on into the buzz this week. We're going to try to just do it as we go on throughout the weekend.

Throw a few different... key stories here and there and see what everybody's take on them is. Okay. If you're up for it, sir. Why not? Alright.

So, a few weeks ago, we had news that Guillermo del Toro, what he might be doing, instead of directing the two Hobbit films, and originally it was writing and producing a new Van Helsing movie, quickly, he threw that down and he said, I don't know if that's totally off the table now, but he wanted to clear it up and he was waiting until his appearance at Comic-Con this past week to give his big announcement. And the big announcement is that he is assigned to write and produce a new movie based on Disney's popular Haunted Mansion theme park attraction. Okay. Well, first of all, anything that has to do with the Haunted Mansion really turns me off because that Haunted Mansion movie with Eddie Murphy was possibly the worst thing I've ever seen.

I don't know how anybody could have sat around and said, let's put this out. They should have hidden that away in the vault somewhere. And the fact that they changed, I went to Disney after that movie was made, and the fact that they changed the Haunted Mansion ride to reflect scenes of that movie is another horrible atrocity as far as I'm concerned. So at this point, I'm tired of hearing Del Toro say that I'm going to do this or I might do this. Just do something.

I'm sick of it. Just pick it, put it out there. If it sucks, I don't care. Just do something. It's getting old.

I think everybody's getting on that now. It's kind of, yeah, there's been too much build-up and there's just been too many changing. Like, every week there's a new title of what he's going to do next. And it's like, just pick something. You know, go with it.

It should already be out by now. I understand The Hobbit messed things up a little bit. But still, really, something just needs to get out there before, you know, people... I mean, it's been a long time since he's had a movie out, really. Right.

Right. Maybe he needs some Ritalin. He's got ADD or ADHD. He could be. Bouncing around too much.

Could be. Yeah, he needs to focus. They do at least reference the fact that, yeah, 2003 Disney put this together in an attempt to kind of latch on to that Pirates of the Caribbean money of, hey, this is a theme park ride, and it made tons of money, which actually they're saying worldwide. Yeah, the international numbers on the Eddie Murphy version is $ 182 million. So really, I guess it wasn't as big a flop if you factor in the rest of the world.

I don't know who's seeing that movie, but I just can't believe that. I say it's a lie, but Hollywood wouldn't lie to me now, would they? No, never. I don't know. That was so bad, and I've heard so many people say how bad it was.

I just can't see it. But, hey, that's beside the point. See, I kind of agree with you. Pretty much anything is going to pale in comparison. To the old Haunted Mansion ride.

Yes. Because that's the only time I ever went there. I was really little. But to this day, there are still images from that ride that are burned into my brain from four years old. I shouldn't even remember stuff, but that ride was so awesome and so creepy to a little kid that I still have.

Images of that. Most of the features of the ride are still there, but the fact that they added parts of the movie in just detract from it and it just makes it campy in a bad way so i i will say this the pirates of the caribbean ride the updates to it are fun and actually tie back i don't know what that word noise was a tie back into the film uh and which was already a tie back from the ride but it it works but it just didn't work with haunted mansion that was a bad movie. Yeah I have a microphone too. I'm going to make funny noises. That's helpful.

Thank you. Well, I thought I would throw this one out there to you specifically because I know we have a little tie-in to it. Okay. So the big box office news right now concerns the success of two movies. They're saying they're considering already doing reboots of two of the current big movies right now, one of which is Salt, which just opened this past weekend.

That seems a little, you know, jumping the gun, but maybe that's just me. And the other? The other is Predators. Predators. So two movies.

That are currently in theaters. They're not going to be sequels, but reboots. Well, they're planning some version of it. I don't know. They're talking sequels, but on Rodriguez, again, I won't go too much into salt because I haven't even seen that one, but the Rodriguez idea, he's saying that he wants to, in sort of a continuation for Predators 2, which I guess isn't actually the title, but that's what, you know, they're referring to it here. is he wants to set up a new storyline, new location, and a new world.

So, I don't know, isn't that already what you did with this last one? Sure. I think it's just, hey, I can make more money. Probably. And I know we are beating a dead horse, but guess what?

So are they. So, you know, I haven't seen Salt. I've heard it was good. But the fact that some producers are already thinking about rebooting or even sequel before i i may i may just not see it in protest that's i'm saying it here first i'm not going to see it in protest. I think they're at least calling it a sequel.

At this point okay okay that's that's that's better but it's still. Kind of jumping the gun it is jumping have just opened this weekend and they're already planning you know but a lot of movies at this point do that because they can start shooting them simultaneously before you know they even get the first one done they're already working on the next two you gotta have a trilogy. I wish I could comment more, but I just. Yeah, let's go for it. Let's just make it.

I don't care. Well, I mean, we both kind of like the Predators movie. I did like the Predators movie. If it was done the same way it was done this time and not cheapened, if you can do that, sure. Why not?

I'll pay another eight bucks or nine bucks and go see it. I don't mind. That's fine, but. I just feel taken advantage of, I guess. See, I've heard.

Some interesting ideas from people already throwing out there. And again, this was all just random people who'd seen the first one and were talking. But there are some interesting things they could do with the Predator storyline. And there's so much other story out there waiting. I mean, if you go into the comics, there's a million different, you know, all these different issues.

Worth of stories out there. Sure. So, I mean, there's definitely material to draw from. There's decent stories out there. But.

I guess what I'm afraid of is the inevitable prequel to the one we've just seen. Which is kind of what I think they're. Oh, great. Well, it's like, I don't know. He says the next step is...

Like, he really doesn't even have any idea at this point, but they're already talking. That's what worries me, is they're already so fixed on making the sequel, but they're not even concerned about what the story is. Because they said now... The next step is to get pitches from writers working off his basic idea. Well, duh.

Isn't that how you make a movie? I mean, like, why do they really need to. Already greenlight this almost, but yet they have no basic idea of what's going on. And they're saying they don't even know if Rodriguez would be in line to direct it. He didn't even direct the last one.

So, I mean, if he's just going to hand it off to somebody else and, like... Then why? Just back it a little bit, you know. Which, I mean, he had a little more to do with this first one. But still, it...

It could be trouble. I don't know. As long as no, you know, Marvel superheroes show up in it and they're going to make another movie about that one, that's fine. I just have this feeling that it's all rolling into the same film and we're just expected to every, you know, June 16th to come out and pay for another one. That's what they want.

Yeah. So, and if it comes out with another Alien vs. Predator, I might go across country and start smacking people. So, that sounds like a plan to. Me I think we could get a whole road trip we're going to call it Smackathon 2011 right we could call it Fanboys 2 the shit they should have done just.

Drive across beat the hell out of people. Yeah drive across the country and beat the hell out of people that are making horrible prequels and remakes. I'd be on board for that too actually or at least we should shoot the footage of it make it a movie and then put that in so I'd be up for that. Okay good See if Del Toro can do it. If he's available.

Or talk about doing it, yeah. For a couple of years, he can talk about it. Right. All right. I guess that will do for today.

Okay. Thank you. Your closet's stuffed with the last year's blues. But you know by summertime, your suicide's just the last year's blues. Do, do, do, do.

It's time for another installment of The Art of Being a Movie Geek. So I guess you're okay with being a movie geek? Oh, yeah. See, I don't even assume that that's a name at this point. To me, it's just a badge of honor.

That's right. A title, a moniker. Yeah, and it's accurate for most people, and some people still get upset about it. It's kind of sad. Movies are like...

It's almost like a form of communication now. You almost have to speak movie geek. Yeah, you really do. If you don't really speak movie geek, you're really going to have a hard time communicating with a lot of people who are pop culture gurus. I mean, it has become almost a whole level of society now that it is this almost another language that takes place in pop culture that it's kind of cool.

Okay, so we are here with Chris Kukta. You are an artist of many sorts, I'm assuming. Yes. Yeah, I started out as a portrait artist, and I went into comics. And then I left comics and started teaching.

I opened an Atelier school, which is classical fine art drawing and painting. And then my wife one day got me back into. She. Got me into painting scenes from horror movies because I've always been a horror movie buff. And she, for.

Valentine's Day, got. Got me a booth at Fangoria, and I did really well there, and it kind of caught on since, and I've been doing it for about three years now. I've been painting horror movie stuff, shots from movies. I've been doing movie posters, concept design. I still do comics every now and again.

All that sort of stuff. And I teach. How did you initially get into art in general? Was it something you started really early? I did start really, really early.

I've always been drawing ever since I was about five years old. I think my grandmother bought me a bunch of old, famous monsters of film land and creepy comics that I use bookshop, and she gave them to me, and it really kind of scarred me ever since. Yeah. That's kind of everybody's story, but it is truly my story. You know, guys like Frazetta and Basil Gogos and Bernie Reitz, and those people leave an indelible impression, and not just on my mind, it seems to be on the mind of the consciousness.

Yeah, definitely. So then getting into art, is it something you did a lot of classical training for? I did. I went to American Academy of Art in Chicago where I learned basically classical oil painting, classical drawing, and later on after that I studied Atelier method, which is French academic period, and basically learned portraiture, learned anatomy, learned value and color and color theory and composition, all that stuff. And it was important.

For me, I had ability, but I didn't have know-how. Yeah. So that really filled in a lot of gaps. And I see a lot of. Guys out there that have incredible ability.

They can render. They just don't have the know-how. And it's kind of been one of my life's missions to help teach. I've learned a lot from teaching. It's a great experience.

And then is it something you branch out and do things on horror in different geek areas. Or is it all pretty much just focused on horror? No, I'd like to do a lot of sci-fi stuff, and I'd like to get back into comics, too. I'd like to do portraits of my favorite comic book characters. I definitely want to do a group of sci-fi stuff.

I want to do some Star Wars stuff. That's really coming up soon. I've got a portrait of Peter Cushing and his Grand Moff Tark, and I figured that would. Be like the gateway drug. Definitely, yeah.

Maybe do Christopher Lee as Count Dooku or something, you know? Fighting each other. Then, yeah. Then break into. That'll push me, you know, into the next thing.

Full-on Yoda and, you know, Battlestar Galactica, Cylons. Yeah, there's a whole group out there for that, too. So it's good, yeah. You know, I'm weird. Everybody's like, oh, you're the horror guy.

Well, not really, though, because I love all of that other stuff, too. How do you. People would always ask me questions like that. Are you Star Trek or Star Wars? How about both?

I like Shatner. There's plenty of good stuff out there. Let's just find the good stuff and worry about that. I love it. I don't know.

I think that the enticing. I think all those other people do, too, pretty much, except the argument is so much, you know, that's so much part of their culture. Again, it's become a very geek-oriented thing to just argue about things back and forth, especially since the Internet has come around. Oh, absolutely. That's definitely brought people together and allowed people like me to get.

A voice, to be able to become recognized. And that's cool because you put. You put a. Large amount of ability into the hands of the artist, and you will see creative things happen. As this technology becomes easier and easier to use, you're going to see people... do amazing things.

And I'm excited about that. Even though my stuff is very traditional, man, I'm all about some Photoshop. I'm all about Maya. I think that stuff's great. I think it ultimately gives people with 2D art experience credit, but it also gives people with 3D art credit.

I think you can teach people how to push buttons really easy, but they really still have to have good old-fashioned art know-how. You have to know what composition is if you want to compose a shot. It doesn't make any difference. So really it all does boil down to classical training, there's still never going to be any easier way to teach somebody than to slap down a piece of paper and give them a pencil and show them how to do it. Photoshop isn't going to heal that.

It's going to help mask some of your shortcomings, but in the long run, eventually you're going to want to grow beyond that if you're going to be anybody anyway. If you're going to take it seriously, you've got to have some form of the basics. I mean.... I think that people, too, as they become more digital savvy, they can still see originality, you know? They're starting to become like, oh, yeah, that's photo manipulated.

That's a shot that, like, you know, that's why, in a way, I still. Do stick to the traditional media because it definitely oozes out who you are a lot easier than Photoshop does because of the way the marks are made. So, yeah. And you said most of what you've been doing is oil-based? Yes, all of it's oil-based.

I do all oil on Mace Knight. All the paintings are oil on Mace Knight. For a couple reasons. Because it's easy. To ship, it's easy to maintain, it's archival.

It's just a good medium. I've learned to use it really well. And typically painting on board is really hard for a lot of artists. I don't know, I just kind of took to it. Very cool.

I guess tell people where to find you out there, I'm assuming on the Internet. Well, you can. Friend me on Facebook, but I just now have my own website. It's www.horrorartist.com, all one word. And I have a WordPress blog and MySpace page and all of the accompanying... facebook deviant art account that i've been on for years that was like my first foray into the into the digital realm.

It's amazing how big that was before anybody knew about these other social networking. Things well you know they did a couple of things right really early yeah and um i think it needs a little bit of spit and polish now um they need to do something so that it can become a little bit more uh commercial you know so that so that guys can use it to get jobs you know So that it isn't just fan-based now. It really is just art for artists. I mean, I don't know anybody who's not into art that goes there. It's just for other artists, almost more than anything.

It's a great place to find good art. It's just that I think once they reach a certain level, they don't maintain it. So it becomes like everybody's entry sketchbook. I want to see it go beyond that. It would, yeah, it would be cool to continue on with successful artists and not just amateurs, yeah.

They're trying, you know, they're trying. But I think ultimately they have to do something that can help people. Get a job, you know. That's what they really need to, they need to have another level where you can focus more on. Your portfolio, your commercial side.

And they don't have anything for that right now. But, if nothing else, yeah, everybody's got their own. So just go to your website. Yeah, that's right. Yeah.

All right, I think that is good. Thanks for talking to us today, and go check out your website. Thank you. Take care. Remember the time I couldn't speak?

Everybody heard the bending and dropping came and crashed down. Then that was the time I couldn't walk. Everybody laughed so entertaining was this breakdown. Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we have to sacrifice a few hours a week to podcast about whatever you find important.

Turn and face the wall. I'm only training. I All right, we are back on day two here. And now we have moved into new territory. Now we have Misty with us.

Yay for Misty. And Jay. Hey. Alright. We are, once again, hanging out at our table.

And what's your take on it so far, Misty? Oh, good lord. The people here are just atrocious. I've seen chicks wear stuff that chicks should never wear. The girls of Nightmare, Q and A session.

The girls of Nightmare, Q and A session is fixing the story. Okay, now try again. I can't decide which is my favorite so far. The guy with the Dave Bustain bangs or the guy with the golden mullet. It's kind of a toss-up right there.

Mustang bangs are definitely, they're pretty signature. He's definitely got the look. He's definitely got the look down there. Different color, but he's got the bangs going. Now the other one, yeah, the curly mullet.

Am I the only one worried about the guy carrying the baseball bat around? I guess that's not a good idea. Maybe that's just me. Um. In here, it's pretty normal, actually.

Go find that guy. Take him out. Take him down. Do your thing. Try again.

I'm still trying to figure out what this thing across from us is. I think it's a chick, but it might have one time been a dude. I'm not really sure. It's got more plastic parts than most Mattel Barbies do. It's not right.

I think it's impolite to ask him, though. It's a PC. You can't ask him. You're just going to guess. Did you used to be a man?

I don't know if that would go over very well. You're a big blonde bouffant, keeping me from seeing the Addams after. That's strategy right there. That's what that is. And then a jackass across from us said, last year sold me my liar copy of Big Wolf on Campus.

It was not a complete series, motherfucker. It was missing episodes, you fucker. But I'm not bitter. No, not at all. Should have brought it and.

Beat him with it. I expected you to, actually, so we'll see. I already lost the original cover, and I figured you probably wouldn't accept the. Beating if you didn't have the original cover for it. I think you should beat him with the... fake cover that you print off the internet.

My cover that I made was way better, thank you very much. I don't know how to make me a bootleg DVD cover. Well, obviously this guy does not, which is a shame since he's selling. Overpriced, too. I mean, son of a bitch.

And he has stupid hair. Seems to be a theme of this week. Yeah, I saw the, uh, celebrity, was it Rochelle Davis? The Sarah? She seems fairly nice and all.

She just needs to invest in a good conditioner or a nice cream rinse because that shit's looking a little dry. I told her you should just mention that. hand or a bottle like small be like here i brought this for you. Paint that shit yeah so far. I've not spent any money which i'm pretty proud of myself and kind of disappointed at. The same time but i'll save it all.

Up for next month when we're going to chicago keep yourself under control. Wow would you like to elaborate on. That I'm not sure if we should. I mean, chicks with short skirts walking by are being an industrial fan right here. It's all right.

I remember when the guy with the big gut walked by, and we saw the brief glimpse of his undercarriage, and it was not pleasant. That's what it was. Not at all. It's bad enough when the shirt doesn't cover the gut, but yeah, when you didn't have a fan to highlight that action, that's, yeah, that's not what. We're looking for.

Nightmares shall ensue. This is a horror festival now. It's the most frightening thing I've seen thus far. I agree. Definitely scarier than any of the Michael Myers or Freddy's or Jason's we've seen wandering around.

The one Freddy I've seen wandering around, she's pretty cute. Is this the probably much older but seemingly 14-year-old Asian girl? Oh, yeah. She is pretty damn adorable, I'll give you that. The normal that Freddy can get, I guess.

Yeah. That's my favorite is she's not overly trying. She's just got the sweater and the glove and a hat. And then she's cute. And that's really all you need.

Especially if you're a cute chick. That's, you know, that's really all you need for a costume. But then you got bruised legs behind us. That's just not allowed. I'm telling you.

Shoe leader outfit or no. Those fucking scars. That's not working. I'm not sure what the strategy is on her approach to this, but. I don't realize she's a horror author, so she's not really banking on being cute, so I'm not really sure what.

The point. Is. I don't get it. I'm staying out of it. I guess if they realize there's that much horror on the outside of your body, that something can come out of your mind must be astounding.

You might be onto something, actually. Oh, if I remember when we ran into her before, she was Roger's favorite, so we're going to have to. Wow, that. One needs data sandwiching. Yikes.

She gets here around the table. Yeah. Please, please pull that down. Thank you. And then Corey's not sure if he's offended or not.

He's already got a mistake in for Feldman, and that's just wrong. I mean, seriously, wrong. I think you should have smacked that person. There was about to be a beatdown. His girlfriend, who correctly identified him, was willing to hold him down for me while I beat That.

Seems fitting, really. That seems fine. I don't know. They gave me a Tootsie Roll, so it was okay. You can be bribed with candy.

That's true. I like Tootsie Rolls. They're awesome. If it's a shitty candy, they would have beat me on it and it would have been okay. But I like Tootsie Rolls.

They'd hand me like a peppermint twist thing. Oh, fuck that. Cheap bastards. At least give me a tootsie. It's one of the long ones, too.

It's about that long. Not even the midgies. It was not a midgie. It was not the fun size, not the snack size. It was one of the ones about game on.

I'm motioning with my hands, but that does really good for the radio. So, a podcast or whatever the fuck we're doing. Ooh, the guy in the western shirt's fantastic. Sleeveless western shirt on a guy I'm approximately guessing around 50. Yeah, I'd say 50, yeah.

Or the unfortunate guy with no ass. Whatever happened to him? Yeah, we forgot to go into that one. I do feel bad for that guy. He just had waist and legs.

There was no in-between. There was no, like, no ass. There was. It wasn't even, like, concave. There was no space for an ass to be.

How does he poop? The poor crackless bastard. Yeah, I decided we need to start a foundation of, you know... The Assless Foundation needs your help today. That's bad enough.

They already came back and gave us flyers for depression and suicide. They knew which table to come to. Apparently we look sad and self-injuring. I'm like, no, I'm not going to injure anybody. It ain't going to be me.

Starts with everybody else. It's going to be that fucker across the aisle who's telling me I'm a fucking big wolf who wasn't complete. Yep. Taking his ass out first. I agree.

Can I have one of your ones? Nobody wants Icarus. Nobody wants Icarus. Take a fire. Take a fire, you bastard.

I'm shoving down your goddamn face. Oh, wait, that's probably not the best way to do it. I don't know, that might get their attention, at least. I mean, we have a giant glowing Greedo holding a knife. If that doesn't get your attention....

Nobody's going to notice us now with this big, big, long bench. In front of us. Yeah, that's true. Our skinny friend. They sucked all the fat out of the skinny girl and injected it in that other girl's ass.

Or face. Hey, boyfriend got fries. Uh-oh, food. I got muskets. Yay, fries!

Oh, these are good. Yay for bright night food. Scary fries. Oh, spooky. I wouldn't tell on this.

Girl if they texted this girl's dress code. Ah, she's crooked. No fair. She is like 14, right? So we probably shouldn't be anticipating this 14-year-old skirt line-up, but we're pretty.

Sick, so what can you do? Take pictures. I think you're on as well. The man they are burying in a subterranean world of horror is a victim of the oblong box. Now, for the first time, Vincent Price and Christopher Lee star in Edgar Allan Poe's tale of the living dead, The Oblong Box.

The Oblong Box in color from American International is rated M. Hi, this is Tom Adkins or Detective Ray Cameron. You're listening to Movie Meltdown throw me baby I'm. I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm. See your eyes through you anyhow.

Came back from my interview with Roger Corman. Awesome. That's all I have to say. I'm just going to roll into it, because what else is there to say? Roger Corman.

Legend. Awesome. Here we go. Alright, we're here with Roger Corman. You were born in Detroit.

Did you have an interest in film right off the bat, like as a child? As a child, I used to go to see the Saturday matinees with my friends. but I didn't become seriously interested in films until I was at Stanford, Stanford University. I was writing for the newspaper, and I started becoming a critic. I became a critic. And started writing reviews for the Stanford Daily, and that's when I started to take films more seriously.

That's what I was wondering, yeah, because you had a degree in industrial engineering. I didn't know how that led to film directing. Didn't lead to film directing in any way. It might have helped a little bit, though, in planning and pre-production. Orchestrate all your projects.

Let's see, when you got into directing, what was your process as far as looking for a new project? I would generally start with the idea and then develop a screenplay from the idea. Yeah, you always had really good plots. It seemed like you actually put a lot of work into story, even working on the sensational angle, but it seemed like you always focused on story more than most. Yes, to me the story is the starting point.

Everything stems from the story. You'd also been known for years for doing all the adaptations of Poe's work. Had you been a fan of Edgar Allan Poe early on? Yes, I had read The Fall of the House of Usher in an English class in high school. and I really loved that story, and I got the complete works of Poe, and I read everything he ever wrote, and when I finally had the chance, I did The Fall of the House of Usher. Was there something that drew you to all of his projects, or was it just.

I think it was the complexity of his stories. I think he was very early in understanding the conscious and unconscious mind. And writing. on a surface level with the conscious mind, and beneath the surface with the unconscious mind. You develop so many types of literature, it's impressive. Right.

You picked some of the greatest actors and directors and writers. Did you just feel like you had a knack for finding that, or is it something that you had a whole structure set up as to bringing in new talent? It was a combination of both. I felt having been a director, I was better equipped to to judge new directors and producers, other producers who had not been directors, but also we had a structure at our studio where people would start and work up and eventually become a director. When you switched over from director to focusing more on producing, was that an artistic decision or was it more just a business?

Was it more work to do and found more creative in the producing? I had directed I think 58, 59, almost 60 pictures in about 13, 14 years, and I was just tired. I switched from directing to producing, and I thought I will do this for a year and then go back to directing, but I started my own company, New World, and it became successful right from the beginning, and I just stayed with producing. And then over the years, your name kind of became a brand in Hollywood. What was it that you set out to bring to a movie that was.

A Roger Corman movie? We felt that, and I still do feel, every film should have an element of excitement within the film. And also, I tried to work in a complex way, so the stories were not simple stories. There was one story, just as with Poe, on the surface... There was another beneath the surface or beneath the text story.

I think it was a combination of those things that made the company successful. Were there new projects you wanted to tell people about that you're working on? I've got a picture called Sharktopus, which comes out September 25th on the SyFy channel. And then I've got a picture called Stealing Las Vegas that we're just finished shooting and we're beginning the editing process. That will come out sometime in 2011.

That's very cool. Thank you very much for talking to us today, sir. Thanks again. I'm taking it slow Feeding. My flame.

So so. Alright, we're back. We have to come back. Because we have to, you know, continue our series. Keep you up to date on the bathroom activities.

Yeah, as we found out last week, all our interesting stories take place in the bathroom. What story was there last week? You were for me hanging out watching a plastic movie. Oh my god, that was so much fun. Anyways, I had to go to the bathroom here, and of course there was this crazy ass lady in there.

Bat shit crazy. She had to ask me what time it was. Yeah. I don't know why. She's currently at a crazy time.

Time to go potty. She had plenty of time, though, according to her. Anyway, she goes to the bathroom and she realizes, unlike me, she didn't check first to make sure each stall had toilet paper. What a novice toilet user. I checked like five or six stalls.

Two of them didn't log. Two of them didn't have toilet paper. I did all my research. I don't commit to a bathroom until I know that I got all my bases covered. Anyway, so she's wearing socks.

She's not wearing no shoes because apparently you're too crazy to wear shoes. I'm telling you. You can't take my shoes. I'm telling you. Fuck shoes, man.

Anyway, so she's in there. She's in with another girl who already complimented me on my hair, so she's okay by me. But then she's like my outfit, too, so I can't be too crazy. But anyway, she goes to the bathroom and she realized she ain't got no toilet paper. She's yelling at the girl like four stalls down.

I ain't got no toilet paper. Bring me some toilet paper. And the girl's like, are you already going? I'm going. She's like, oh, I'll just use my sock.

I'm like, really? So I was the good Samaritan. I went and got the crazy bitch some toilet paper because nobody wants fucking pee socks walking around the crazy house. Would she have put it back on afterwards? But she ain't gonna walk barefoot.

Jesus. I'm assuming she only peed. Yeah, see, I wasn't assuming that. That's why I was really worried. She wasn't in there very long.

Aw, a Corona Owl tattoo. But anyways, yeah, crazy. Fuck it's crazy. He gets in the bathroom. All you Texans who saw Massacre 4 junk really fast.

Look at the sweater vest. Holy shit, I've seen some weird shit in here, but there's a goddamn sweater vest. They're so cool. This is a very Jim Spurs sale. I have my Facebook page.

For my socks. It is all of them. Yeah, would you like to go into that as your geek activity for the week? I have 13 pictures of my socks. If we've not mentioned it before, Misty has an inordinate amount of socks.

Imelda Marcos. Yes, the Imelda Marcos of socks, we've decided. I took pictures of 153 hair just last night, and that's not even a third of them. And I thought she was just, like, laying them out on the floor and taking a picture. Hell no, that's lazy.

No, she's putting each and every pair on and taking pictures. Let me tell you, I fucking hate toe socks. Whoever bought me toe socks should fucking hurt. I still am thoroughly convinced you can make money off of. This if you put it all on a website.

These photos. That guy's classic t-shirt. I don't know. I don't know. I'm sure women are just lining up for him.

He's a gynecologist. Yeah, he looks like a reputable gynecologist. That hangs out at horror conventions. Yikes. She is pretty damn awesome.

I was discussing with a passerby earlier how awesome Kid Girls is. I'm talking on Facebook about how much I hate Nicolas Cage. Except in that movie. He's awesome in that movie, too. I just fuck his career choices on occasion.

Those are awesome. He does have Captain Crunch on his leg. Oh, if Marlena was here, right? Those are awesome. He does have Captain Crunch.

On his leg. Oh, if Marlena was here right now. No. There's a Tony Tiger, though. That's old school.

What was that? I said, I think the only pussy that guy ever sees is down at the animal shelter. Yeah, but he still gets the same action either way. Yeah, either way. I don't even know what it is.

Right after he chose him. I'm going to talk about Fever Lake, or we're going to wait until we actually do another episode. Yeah. I don't know. Do you want to go in-depth?

It wasn't bad. I liked Fever Lake. It had Hayman, it had Mario Lopez. It was fun. The only thing that made me suspend my belief was, okay, I love me some Corey Haim.

I always have. This is during his more not-quite-trim days. Yeah. And you want me to believe that not only is he on track, but that he is their fastest runner. I'm sorry, but no.

That's just miscasting at that point, really. He's running, and he's winning the race, wearing his oversized sweats and shirt because he don't actually want to see him with a shirt off the point. No, no. And you're going to tell me he's their track star. What fucking poor-ass college school is this?

Corey Hay, I mean, it's slightly chunky days. It's your track star. And how old is he at this point? What college is this? I don't even know.

I'm pretty sure unless you're like 19. I'm 96. I'm pretty sure 96. Okay, maybe then. You get to see Mario Lopez die a horrible morning then.

We don't actually get to see it. You get to see the aftermath of it. Well, I keep waiting for that to happen. Me too, dude. Don't worry about it.

Every week he's back on TV again, so it must not be a fan now. It's like an MTV dance show. Every damn time I see it, I'm fucking serious. But it was alright. It didn't make a damn good of sense, but I don't need it.

I don't need it to make a sense for me to like it. I don't need that kind of, you know... I just met Cory. He was cute and that's all you need. I spent half the movie trying to figure out if it was a pimple or a nose ring.

I'm pretty sure it was a nose ring. It kind of glittered, so. He is that cool, huh? I don't know. He has glittery pimples.

I can't tell. That'd be pretty impressive, too, actually. He was hot. Even if he was chunky, that's all they would have done on him. That is all you need.

I'm all over that. You can. Hey. Yikes. Oh, yeah.

So, yeah, Paper Lake. All right, so we are back with more buzz, and we are here with Misty and. Jay once again. Hey. Hey.

Yay. So, yeah, you guys are the lucky bastards because you get to do, you know what you love it. It's time for the remix of the week. Oh, great. Yay.

Yay. I can totally read all your stuff before you say it. Then it'll ruin it, because if there's one thing I know, it's that Jay loves Judge Dredd. I do? Of course, everybody loves Judge Dredd.

All right, maybe not. Judge Dredd, the influential character that helped popularize the grime and gritty approach in the late 80s that led to titles like Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, and Wolverine. And now they're going to remake it, which we've kind of discussed before, but we actually have who they're considering for the role. I think I heard this, but I forgot. They're considering Carl Urban.

Oh, I love him! Who's that? Carl F. Bones in a new movie. Oh, yeah.

And the guy with the scraggly hair in Ghost Ship, who we didn't realize it was him at first, because he didn't look the same, and he had stupid hair. Is he buff enough to be Judge Dredd? Yeah. He is? Oh, yeah, that's right.

That's actually kind of odd, because Stallone was complaining about how most of the action heroes now, they can just strap their muscles on, whereas he used to spend so much time in the gym, him and Arnold Schwarzenegger and all the other ones. Yeah, now you can just strap on muscles. It's a good plan if you can get it. Yeah. Strap on the abs, the codpiece, you know.

That one guy walking around earlier needed a strap on ass. That's true. It's the sad part. Yes, Misty's going to start a fund for guys who don't have asses. It's going to be the. assless guy fun luckily.

My boyfriend has the most fantastic ass so he's safe all right. I'm leaving that alone anyway so um yeah my boy uh as it were hasn't signed on yet officially yet i like him but um yeah if he doesn't take well if he takes the role it's worth noting that in this version he's not going to take the mask off I don't know if that's just in the action scenes or what, but basically it's just going to be. His chin doing all the acting. That's fine. It's kind of weird.

He has a hot chin. It's just weird to take a role as the lead actor and then nobody knows it's you, basically. Might as well be in V for Vendetta. Nobody knows who that was either. Except geeks like you guys.

Hugo Weaving. I knew that. But the rest of America, who doesn't, you know, super late geek out over things, has no idea who the hell that guy is. You mean that guy with the mask on? So, yeah, it's an odd choice for the actor to take that on, really.

So, yeah, the Judge Dredd remake will be directed by Pete Travis, who did Vantage Point. And the adaptation is written by Alex Garland, who did 28 Days Later and Sunshine. So, actually, at least has written some decent movies. So, yeah. Will there be no Rob Schneider?

Oh, God. That's the only thing I care about is whether or not Rob Schneider will be in it. That he's not in it? No, that he is in it. That's what made the movie.

Are you serious? That's what made the first movie. I wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't been in it. I am the law. I am the law.

Who lets Rob Schneider in a movie these days? Oh, wait. Adam Sandler. That's it. Oh, so yeah.

The original writer of Judge Dredd, the comic. Book, he says he is very optimistic about this. Unlike the You're Still Home version. So I guess he wasn't a fan of the Stallone version. Bruises.

Get my drift. Yeah. Bruises. Going off about that chick over there? Yes.

You think she's so hot. She's getting closer. She's setting off my bruise detector, and I can't stop it. She's just asking for a beatdown. I think she'd like it, though.

Yeah. That's all I got. What's the next news? Is there more news? Oh, yeah.

So, since breaking out with the 2003 horror import High Tension, French director Alexandre Angeau, his three English language films have been two remakes, which would be The Hills Have Eyes and the upcoming Piranha 3D. Which I'm excited about. Yay! And the original Mirrors. I don't know if anybody was excited about Mirrors.

So this week we found out while doing early publicity for Piranha 3D, he revealed that he hopes to be able to remake the gory 1980s slasher Maniac. Haven't seen it. In Maniac, a serial killer stalks and kills women each night, scalping them to use his hair to adorn his apartment full of mannequins. See, I'm not the only one that does that. See, exactly.

You fit right in. Are you sure it's not just a. Movie about you? No. I have really high quality mannequins.

Maniac is directed by William Lustig, who went on to direct the first three movies in the similarly titled Maniac Cop franchise. That's totally different. What are you talking about? It's completely different. It's got cop on the end.

So, same thing. They say Aja would not be directing the Maniac remake himself. He would actually be producer on the film, and they will actually be working with his frequent writing partner. But that guy is the one going to be making his directorial debut. So they're going to be handing off.

Using his popularity to get this other guy directing gig, basically. Nah. Nice. That, I guess, can round out the buzz. It's like 100 degrees in here.

Why the fuck is that douchebag wearing a toboggan on his head? I swear to God. Because it makes him so much cooler than the rest of you people. If it's hot enough, you gotta roll your goddamn sleeves up. It's fucking too hot for a damn toboggan.

Or have a western shirt with no sleeves. Oh, you just missed him. I don't know what it is. With kids wearing toboggans nowadays. I don't get that.

When I was a kid. And I got hot, I took my damn hat off. Or shaved my head. It makes you cool. All the kids at the mall are wearing it.

It makes your head sweat and you get a head rash. Yeah, that bakes their brain. They get stupider. I think most of the kids are baking themselves these days anyway. That's what's wrong with today's society.

Kids wearing toboggans. I mean, it's gotten so bad, even Jason. Oh, wait. So earlier we were over looking at toys, and they've got a little post-it note on this Jason action figure. And I look at it, and I swear for a second, I was like, does that say get me stoned?

I thought it said that too, as soon as I looked at it. I was like, well, first of all, it's plastic. I don't think that's going to work. And second of all, if I remember from the remake, Jason was not big on the pot smoking. It kind of pissed him off.

So I don't think you're going to get Jason stoned. It's the same booth that also pissed me off because they had the re-release. The new edition of the She-Ra action figure, which is one of my childhood heroes right there. I had the original action figure. Okay, this was a redo, and fucking hell, it pissed me off.

She's got plastic hair. Don't give her a fucking comb. She doesn't need a comb. Hard plastic hair. You cannot comb that shit unless you're going to comb your own hair with a tiny little.

Comb that's like, what, a half of an inch long? That's just fucking stupid. Fucking hell. It's like a mustache comb. For all those little girls out there deciding whether or not they want to, you know, groom their facial hair.

Oh, that's okay then. Only reason they did it i guess was because the original came with a comb but. The original had hair hair you could brush small small oversight it's not a small oversight she's got plastic hair and a fucking. Comb you can pretend to comb her plastic hair then. You're just fucking retarded Hey, there are a lot of special children out there in the world.

Maybe they want to pretend to comb plastic hair. Never mind. Never mind. Your job as a parent is to just patronize them and go, that's good, Sally, you brush that hair. Okay, if the kid.

Is stupid enough to brush plastic hair with a fucking little plastic comb, chances are you're going to have to worry about them swallowing the damn thing than actually doing any good. That's true. It's not, yeah, it's a pretty small comb, I'm First of all, who's opening that thing anyway? It's going to suck poop out of comb if you swallow it. Well, it was bound to come to that eventually.

All righty then. I'm tired. I didn't get much sleep last night. People here kind of smell, and I'm ready to go home. It's hot.

Not here. Well, not here in our booth. We've got A.C. Well. Fans.

Two fans. We hauled in our own fans. I don't know that other people liked that fact that we did it anyway. Poor little miserable bastards were sweating their asses off everywhere else and weren't hoarding two fucking fans over here. Hey, we planned ahead and brought our own shit.

Yeah, I know. I told you to bring it. Exactly. You wanted to just bring that little fan. I said, no, bring the big fan.

Okay, well, I didn't know how hot it was going to be out here. We have made use of it, so there you go. Yeah. Cheerleader undercarriage. Oh, yikes.

Damn that fan. We didn't need that. I guess we're pretty much wrapping up the show here. Anything you want to tell people out there? Titanic 2 is the stupidest idea I've ever heard of.

You don't need another Titanic on the same day. It's going to hit the same damn iceberg. You ought to see that coming. Yeah, that's pretty dumb. That's stupid.

Yeah, if you're on our Facebook page, you saw me post that the other day, and I was. Like, what the fuck are they thinking? The sad thing is, I had watched the trailer for that the day before you posted it, and Jay was like, I don't even want to see it. It sounds stupid. I don't even want to hear about it.

Yeah, I didn't even want to turn around and watch it. I know what's going to happen. They're going to hit a goddamn iceberg, and they're all going to die. Wait, you think? Hold on a minute.

What are the odds of that? Actually, I think it's pretty vast. Why would you have the Titanic 2 anyways? It obviously didn't end well the first time, you know? I mean, it's not like it had a good voyage.

It kind of fucking sailed in. Well, like I said, that's like a Hindenburg 2. Hey, let's make another one. How's this one going to end? And that just got greenlit.

I hate to tell you. Yeah, well. Hindenburg 2, coming soon to a theater near you. It's going to get attacked by a super gator because that would be awesome. That would be awesome.

Why don't they remake a good movie like Suburban Commando? I thought you said a good movie. Make up your mind. What's wrong with Suburban Commando? Many, many things.

Starring Rob Schneider. No. What is your obsession with Rob Schneider? Rob Schneider's not in that. I was recasting him.

Oh. Dreamcasting with Rob Schneider. He could strap on the Hulk Hogan muscles and all of a sudden, and whatever that hair is, it's not really a mullet, I don't guess. It's a skullet. It's a skullet.

I don't think he had hair for a long time. Alright, so I guess, assuming this is the end, we'll. I'm done. Yay! Fuck She-Ross Cone.

Fuck She-Ross Cone. She don't need it. She's a bitch got plastic hair. On that note, we will send you off on your merry way. So, thank you for listening to our coverage from Fright Night Film Fest.
