Guess who? It's 10 o'clock. Do you care where your parents are? The following feature has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
This is not a drill. Repeat, this is not the drill. At this time, we are requesting the immediate and orderly evacuation. Of the vicinity. The Coast Guard and the Navy have been alerted and are standing by on the eastern seaboard.
And it continues to burn out of control. It has been regular. Every five to ten minutes, there has been another convoy of units, fire. Companies, paramedics... A citywide emergency has been declared.
Police officers are still on tactical full alert. 2,000 National Guardsmen are standing by. Air defense warning read. It's time for Movie Meltdown's Attack of the Killers soundtrack. Live transmission has begun, and we're into the final.
Hour of hell. What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown's Attack of the Killer soundtrack. I am Brian and I'm coming to you live via digital recording from Four Castle Festival here in Louisville, Kentucky. Actually, it's sunny for the moment. Louisville, Kentucky.
We were evacuated earlier. Yeah, that's kind of why I bring that up. It wasn't so sunny for a minute and a half, and everybody freaked out. It's all okay now. It's all good.
With me, as you would have heard, would be Teresa. So, say hello. Hi. To do some minor backstory, I've known you for years. I hardly ever see you.
But my tie-in for the show was, if I remember correctly... You were one of the first people I remember pitching the show to as an idea. And I think I brought this up a year or so ago, and you were like, I don't remember that. So it may not be memorable, but other than, I do remember trying to convince Misty to do it early on, and she was equally as not interested as now. And then, like, about the only other person I remember at the time was giving you the whole spiel, and you seemed to pretend like it was a good idea.
So whether you meant it or not, you've led to this moment. I have to say, was I drinking? It would have been inappropriate in that situation, but I wouldn't put it past you. I mean, I've seen you today throwing them back. So, I mean.
So, you never know. Watching a group of children and driving a bus or whatever it was you were doing. I mean, you really shouldn't have been drinking all that. Anyway, that's a side. We're working on an intervention.
Well, then I will just say. My old bones, my old brain, I cannot take responsibility for remembering things. It's still a good idea, though, because when you bitched the second time, I still said it was a good idea. That was like four years later. I just didn't remember it.
We were in the middle of a convention, so yeah. Well, you know, it's still a good idea. That's still arguable, even from me, but hopefully someone out there appreciates what we do. I don't know. So, we are coming to you live, sort of, kind of.
From Fourcastle. Do we want to do a basic intro here? Your take on it so far? Well, Fourcastle is a super cool event that happens in Louisville. I love that it happens.
I'm really excited that I get to come for free. We're by the road, by the way. We are in the middle of the festivities, but we've ventured off close to the road is why you hear traffic behind us. Continue on. So, yeah, super cool event.
A little pricey for my taste, typically, but I get to volunteer. And help people. And you don't even know anything. Yeah. I'm the info booth and I don't know anything.
But then that allows me to come and get a chance to check out the really diverse crowd and music that they have. And I love that. Music, yes. Crowd, it depends. I don't know.
The crowd is pretty diverse. I mean, we're talking the age range is from like five. To 90. The age I will give you. We'll come back around to some of the others.
We've got hippies to hipsters. That's the thing. I was glad. Because this was the other one I was like, I was trying to, as usual, most of our regular crew has bailed like they do. Feel free to email them and tell them they suck.
But I found out you were coming. So I'm like, okay, well, that will be good. Because as I got here yesterday, yesterday I was here by myself. And I'm like, I really hope at some point we can sit down and talk. Because otherwise...
My solo podcast is going to come off something like Blair Witch. It's just going to be me going, guys, guys. I'm really, I'm really afraid. I'm surrounded by hippies. And it smells funny here.
And it'll be the last thing that was ever, you know, recorded from me. So I'm glad now it's a little more relaxed. There's a nice breeze going here. I can have a somewhat normal conversation because there were some weird people out there yesterday. So I said hippies, hipsters, and there are some hip hopsters here.
Oh, Jesus. This is a very specific breakdown. How do you pin that one down? Well, so if you go hang out by the ocean stage. It's a very nautical themed event, by the way, if you're not here right now.
It's all about ships and oceans and boats. There's a boat on every poster they've ever had. Anyway, moving on. Ship. I'm sorry.
Nautical people will correct me. But yes, if you go by the ocean stage where they play the techno dance. The DJ. DJ kind of stuff. Then you can find some hip hopsters.
And then you find also some hippies who are like doing their little. Hippie dance. Hippie dance that they think is like a trancey dance. Yeah. It's interesting.
Just because you're on that now, we were walking behind one earlier, and she was doing the hippie dance as she was walking away, and then she kind of stopped and started walking normal, and it's almost like she forgot and then went, oh, yeah, I'm supposed to be doing that dance. And she, like, forcefully, like, went back into it mid-groove, and I was like, I think she's faking the hippie dance. And she was not a hippie because her clothes are from the mall. Sorry to break that to you. Real hippies can't afford to go to the mall.
But her clothes were not hippie clothes. Well, we've gone into the clothes earlier, too. I want to get to at least my favorite one from yesterday. So I was trying to remember all the key elements. Of this chick.
Someone is checking us out with our mics, too. He's like, what's going on? Oh, they should, because we're cool. Look how cool we are. We are the rock stars, buddy.
Come on now. You don't know how important we are. You're wondering. We are important. Otherwise, we wouldn't have the microphone.
Right. Big boy told me that yesterday. Anyway, so there were two or three. I mean, there's some points when I have to, like, stop and just laugh at people. I'm sorry.
I know I'm a judgmental jackass, but oh, my God. The guy yesterday who had to make sure I was referencing the right cast member from Fat Albert. That pimpin' hat that Rudy used to wear, only a little bigger than Rudy's. Oh, goodness. It was enlarged as a hat can be.
He also had a patchwork of material on his shorts. It was all different types of materials and regular and denim and corduroy and it was just this like he's wearing a quilt of some sort. And then he's got like some sort of moonstone and a bag tied around his neck and like There's just, after a while, I'm like, it's so much hippie piled on top of hippie. I'm like, I just got to laugh at it. And the thing is, you know that everything he's wearing cost a lot of money.
I don't know. He did not make any of it. He looked pretty broke. Yeah, I'm sure he didn't make it. I'm telling you, he didn't make any of it.
He didn't look crafty enough to make a damn thing. But he may look pretty broke, but I guarantee you mom and dad have some cash. Probably. And bought him his little outfit. And then he's working really hard on looking broke.
Fucking poser hippies. So. No, my favorite. And some of you guys here may know who it is because I'm sure once I start describing it, it's not tough to pick her out of a lineup. So she was here yesterday and she came cruising up and I will admit at first I was kind of like, what the hell is she doing?
I changed my vote as I went along. But let me sort of give you a description of her. So she has an entirely shaved head on one side, relatively like shoulder length hair on the other. She was wearing a sleeveless unitard That had sort of like a space pattern on it, like an outer space pattern all over her. She also had some sort of like animal fur.
I'm assuming in this crowd it would be fake. But some sort of animal looking thing, but it was really thin. So it was almost sort of like a scarf. But maybe it was like a fur, just like a really thin normal fur. I couldn't tell exactly what it was.
You didn't walk up and ask her if you could pet it? After a while, I was just sort of mesmerized. I just kind of sat there looking at her. She obviously, in this scenario and with that, not surprised that she has tons of tattoos and piercings. That's fine.
Again, in this crowd, that's kind of. Normal, actually. But then she was also underneath a black lace parasol. Nice. So instead of the sunscreen, and maybe in addition to sunscreen...
She was further protecting herself from the evil sun rays. I would hope so. I mean, in this day and age with melanoma the way it is, and on top of that, having that many tattoos, you really got to protect yourself. So please, go to town. So yeah, at first I was just like, what the hell is she doing?
And then the more I sat there mesmerized by her, I was like, you know what, she's kind of making it work. Sometimes you just, you cross the line and you come back around and by the end I was like, go for it, sister. You go to town. You just go ahead, wear that crazy ass outfit proudly. Because she was kind of making it work.
And honestly, when I see crazy ass outfits, I may initially... They could judge them and be like, oh, my God. But then in the end, I'm just like, you know what? Kudos to you for either not caring and doing what you want to do. Well, really, just not caring and doing what you want to do.
That totally seemed like her attitude yesterday. It's like, do what you want to do. Be yourself. And that's... Who cares what anyone else thinks?
I still reserve the right to make fun of you. Yeah, absolutely. But totally do your own thing. Yeah, no, totally. I support that.
Because I know people are going to make fun of me sometimes. I was like, I understand we go places and people are totally making fun of us. That's fine. I expect that. I usually welcome it and we make fun of each other as we go along.
Right, exactly. It's expected. This is, in fact, the music episode. So I guess we should venture into some sort of music before we get too far. Music!
I thought, just because... We're sitting here in the middle of a big music festival. I mean, we should kind of kick it off music festival style. And what's your go-to? I mean, there's only one that kind of started this nonsense.
Lollapalooza! Please, I'm going old school. Oh, you're going for a. I'm delving into the Woodstock soundtrack. Yeah, yeah.
The original. That was the first. Oh, that and the Monterey Jazz Festival. It's so cliche at this point, and everybody's kind of sick of most of those songs because they're so normal, like everybody's used to them. But at the same time, you almost have to give it credit that, number one...
Nobody did concerts like that before then. Nobody did a soundtrack to something like that. And nobody did a movie like that. Specifically, the way that they shot it, those weird split screens and multi-camera and all the weird elements that they put in there were actually kind of groundbreaking at the time. And we're used to them now, especially going through music video era.
That's all they did. It became standard. But if you go back and look at what they were doing for its time period... It was pretty revolutionary, so I had to at least give it credit. And I was going to try to pick something slightly less that you don't hear on the radio constantly.
Okay, good. So, not that there's anything wrong with Jimmy. I'll play Jimmy all day. But I thought with this one we would go with Coming Into Los Angeles from Arlo Guthrie. Oh, I love Arlo.
That would seem fitting for today's festivity. Actually, I think I saw Arlo live. Not in concert, just like hanging out at McDonald's? No, no, I mean live in concert. Yeah, no.
Not just alive, but live performing. Sometimes I have a hard time remembering all the people I've seen and haven't seen, but I'm pretty sure I saw Arlo Guthrie when he played Louisville. Pretty sure he played Louisville when I was in high school. They had music back then? They did, it was crazy.
I know. They had venues back then. What the hell are you saying? I think I went with my parents. Out on the side of the river?
Oh wait, that's where we are now. Yeah, no, this wasn't around. The river? The river. That's going way back.
Out on the side by the river. Oh, that fancy little area we have out there now. Yeah, it's not now. I believe that. Coming in from London, from over the pole.
Flying in a big airline. Chicken flying everywhere around the plane. Could we ever feel. Much finer Coming into Los Angeles Bringing in a couple of keys Don't touch my bags if you please Mr. Customsman Guy with the ticket to Mexico No, it wouldn't look much.
Stranger Walkin' in a hall with his things and all Smilin' said he was a lone ranger Comin' into Los Angeles. Bringin' in a couple of keys Don't touch my bags if you please Mr. Custom Man. Yes, it is woman walking on a moving floor. Ripping on the escalator.
There's a man in the line and she's blowing his mind. Thinking that he's already met her. Coming into Los Angeles. Bringing in a couple of keys. Don't touch my bags if you please, Mr.
Customsman. Coming from London, from over the pole. Flying in a big air liner. Hot chicken flying everywhere around the plane. Should we ever be over?
Shut your face, hippie. Well, I'm just looking to see if, yes, I did indeed see him. Do you have a log of everyone you've seen? No, I'm looking up on his, I'm looking at Arlo.net. I wouldn't put it past you.
You know, and that's the problem. Like, I'll be sitting there and all of a sudden I'll be like, oh, wait, I think I'll hear something that triggers a memory. I think I saw them live. I think I did that. I'm at least pretty good.
I actually, I'm pretty sure I remember everybody I've seen. But it's not near what you have, I'm sure. Yeah, no, I'm really bad. I don't actually. Well, you are far more musical.
So that's another reason I thought it would be good to work you in this episode, you know. I definitely have my feet in the music waters, but, you know, I think you've invested a good portion of your time and life into the music world. So I thought it would be, you know, a nice tie into working. Well, so I honestly can't tell you whether I did in fact see Arlo Guthrie because. Drunk again.
Damn it. I'm like, did I just imagine it or did I... Maybe I'm just confusing it with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, who I did definitely see. Maybe it was Woody Guthrie, and you were going way back. Yeah, no, I think he was dead before I was born.
So you say. I'm not buying it. I mean, I could have gone back in time, Doctor Who style. I'm working on that. I've got a DeLorean that I'm working on.
Anyway. So that was, in fact, coming into Los Angeles from Arlo Guthrie, which I thought was a double tie-in. I mean, number one, Los Angeles obviously has its movie tie-ins as well. But it's also laced with drug references, which reminded me of last night when I saw Old Crow Medicine Show. And every one of their songs is nothing but drug references.
It's very odd for the kind of band that they are and the kind of music they play, just how heavy with drugs they are in every song. I mean, I guess that happens in every area and walk of life. People love them some drugs, I suppose. They do. They do.
Gets them in trouble, but man. I hear it really influences their music. Musicians doing drugs. Who thought we would ever see the day? I know.
Craziness. So moving into the next one here, I did want to, this will tie back into our discussion before of the diversity. Because as I wandered around, before I made it to Old Crow Medicine Show, I wandered to the other stage. We have many stages here. We're pretty fancy.
Like one of those, you know, outdoor festivals are. And the other one was, in fact, Big Boi. Let's just go into this. Of the different types of hippies and hipsters and 19-year-olds and 90-year-olds, there's a lot of white people here. Awful lot of white people.
So, I mean, nothing against the... We actually have a pretty diverse city, I will say, if you take it all into account. But the other elements really haven't. They just pulled rope out of the flowers. That's where I keep my home.
Someone was stashing rope in the flowers. Doesn't everybody have rope? Never mind. No, I don't keep my rope in the flowers. I keep it next to the bed.
I keep it in the garage, in the dungeon. Oh, wait. Never mind. Never mind. So, anyway, white people.
They're lame. My point. Yeah, there was a lot of people over there at the stage with Big Boy. And if you yourself are, in fact, white or old or lame, Big Boy is the other half of OutKast and is sort of, you know, hip-hop and rap-like. So watching this entire crowd of white people, half of them weren't even trying to dance.
It was kind of sad, actually. They were mostly standing there, which I do too, but I totally own up to my whiteness, so I don't pretend, which I guess I appreciate them not dancing, because I've seen some scary attempts at that this past 24 hours as well. But it was just so sad. I was just like watching all these white people not know how to they just seemed to just out of their element and confused and i i don't know what to do so i thought of nothing else we better work a little soul into this episode. Now it's time for some Blaxploitation appreciation.
You're damn right. Each episode, we will delve into a different track from a Blaxploitation film. And usually they are, in fact, quite soulful. So this time... We are going with, I thought these people needed as much funk in their system as possible.
So we're going with James Brown. And people get up and drive your funky soul from the 1973 film Slaughter's Big Ripoff. Slaughter's Big Ripoff. Raise up, get yourself together, and drive that funky soul. Get up, get.
Yourself together, and drive your funky soul. They're doing it down in Nassau. Drive that funky soul. They're doing it by the beach. And driving that funky soul new york get yourself together and drive your funky soul let your body pop and let your feeling fold raise up get yourself together and drive that funky soul when i say sagittarius And drive that funky soul When I say Pisces holler And drive your funky soul When I say Gemini And drive that funky soul When I say Capricorn And drive your funky soul When I say Scorpio, Virgo And drive your funky soul If I say Cancer Can you drive that monkey soul?
Raise up! Get yourself together and drive. Your monkey soul. Slaughter! Get on up!
Get yourself together and drive that monkey soul. Leo! Get yourself together and drive your monkey soul. Aquarius! Get yourself together and drive that monkey soul.
Get yourself together and drive that monkey soul. Get up, get yourself together and drive that monkey soul. Get yourself together and drive that monkey soul. Driving, driving, I need some money. Do you need some money?
Drive that monkey soul. The cat's on the corner. Drive that monkey's soul. The girl's on the stand out there. Drive that monkey's soul.
Raise up. Get your stuff together. Drive that. Woo! Raise up.
Get your stuff together. Drive that monkey's bread. Hit it. Hit it. Hit it.
Woo! It ain't a good night. It ain't a good night. It ain't a good night. It ain't a good night.
And that's all. Where's Germany? I said they're driving that funky soul. In Georgia, they're driving that funky soul. They're driving that funky soul.
And in Washington and Baltimore, finish up, yeah. Georgia, Chicago, St. Louis, Houston, Dallas. Whoo! Hey all you jive hustlers, you stone foxes, you mean dudes.
Watch out, cause slaughter's back in town. Jim Brown is Slaughter, the baddest cat that ever walked the earth. In Slaughter, he tore up the mob good. Now they want him bad. They're going to get Slaughter or get slaughtered.
In Slaughter's Big Ripoff. Music composed and performed by James Brown, the godfather of soul. Slaughter's Big Ripoff from American International. Rated R, under 17, not admitted without parent. Slaughter's Big Ripoff.
It's hot. It's in the fridge, daddy-o. Are you happy with the job? Can you dig what I'm laying down? I knew that you could.
Slide me some skin. So, brother? They needed as much help as possible. Absolutely. And not even from a white soul person.
Very good. There's a couple of those. I know what I wanted to discuss. So, you've been to outdoor festivals before somewhere along the way, I believe, right? Lollapalooza.
All right. And then a couple of different hippie festivals that I randomly got drugged to. Drugged and taken to? That's how I heard that. Anyway, so.
You weren't doing it today, so I can safely say today you're not that person. At these other festivals, were you ever the person carrying something on a stick? No. I've never been that person. What the hell?
I've been to many an indoor concert, and I've been to a couple of these years ago before they became this kind of crazy. They were just like normal local people hanging out in the park years ago. It's a very different thing today than it used to be. Which isn't bad. It's just bigger and has more of that Lollapalooza Bonnaroo feel.
But I've never seen so many people carrying a something on a stick. Usually it's a stuffed something or other or a hat or. A lot of it is the Squalus Puppeteers, though. No. I've seen those.
Those are fine. In fact, that's one of the most impressive things I've seen was the giant Hunter S. Thompson puppet walking around. And by giant, I mean huge. How big do we think that thing is?
I mean, four or five people at least. Yeah, it's massive. I took pictures. Larger than life. We'll be posting it on the Facebook page.
So if you're not friends with me or the show on Facebook, it's your own damn fault. You should get to that. Well, see, I always assumed that the smaller things on sticks were just kind of like teasers for Squalus. That one guy just looked like a weirdo with a thing on a stick. There's a couple of people that I'm like, I think that's just a guy with something on a stick, and he's holding up in the air.
And I see him at other shows, like on TVs, not in the real world, but there were a lot of them today. So it just made me want to question... Why do you need a stuffed horse head on a stick wearing a hat? Like, I wouldn't want to bother with having to carry that. I know.
I was watching the guy yesterday. I'm irritated. I have my bag. He's going to a lot of trouble to, like, pin this thing up against his gut and, like, hoist this giant stick in the air to put, like, an air flag with a shamrock or whatever it was. Or the person, like, flying the Pegasus flying in outer space flag over there.
Yeah. Which is scary. Well, it would only really be awesome if it was on a blacklight poster. Why they need it on a flag in the middle of this concert, I don't know. It's expression.
People like to be expressive. Something. So I just wanted to address that. If you're a person that likes things on a stick at concerts... Explain to me.
And I'm not talking corn dogs because I was eyeballing those earlier. I was just going to say, other than corn dogs, the corn dogs are good on a stick. You can't go wrong with that. Or a kebab. I'm all about some corn dogs.
Or anything else you want to put on a stick and then dip in batter and deep fry because, you know, I'm all about healthy living. But, yeah, if you're one of the other people that likes to put your stuffed dog on a stick and hoist it 20 feet in the air, please explain to yourself and email us and, you know, give us some sort of idea of why, what possesses you to do this. Anyway. On with the show. Without much further ado, I give you.
It's time for the Killify. So as per usual on this show, as often as possible, I like to bring other people in. and have them do the rundown of The Killer Five. So, I have asked you, in advance to prepare a list, you're sort of winging some of it, I believe, but what would you like to start with on your list of songs from and or related to movies? Okay, so the first song that came to mind, as I was sitting there trying to think about it, That's. How I like this.
That's how I played the whole first episode. It was just me going, oh, I got to put that one in. Oh, I got the first thing that fired in there. So, what are yours? So, Love Song for a Vampire from Bram Stoker's Dracula by Coppola with Annie Lennox performing it.
I have that. Beautiful song. I own that myself. Love that song. And was definitely going to work it in somewhere down the line.
This seems like a good excuse. Coming to Pull these arms again And lay your body down. The rhythm of this trembling heart Is beating like a drum It beats for you It bleeds for you It knows not how it sounds For it is the drum of drums It is the song of songs Once I had the rarest rose that ever deemed to bloom. Cruel winter chill. And stole my power too soon Oh, loneliness Oh, hopelessness To search the ends of time Oh, loneliness For there is in all the world a greater love than mine.
Let me be the only one To keep. You from the cold How the floor of heaven is laid. They shine for you. They shine for you. They burn for the sea.
Come into these arms again and set this spirit free. And then the next one that came to mind was 500 Miles from Benny and June. And I think that's the Proclaimers doing it. It is. I love that song.
I mean, who doesn't love that song? And that is one of those that's like, and this is what I've noticed just in the episodes we've done so far, how much certain songs become completely synonymous with the movie. Like you cannot... hear that song and not think about the movie, or see even a part of that movie and not somewhere have the song trigger in your head. That one just got so tied into the movie itself, probably mostly because the video played nonstop back in the day. But still, it's one of those that you can't have one without the other.
Yeah, I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you. If I get drunk, girl, I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be. The man who gets drunk next to you. And if I have a, yeah, I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna. Be the man.
Or has that made a man walk a thousand miles to fall down. At you too? When I'm watching, as I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man. Who's working hard for you. When the money comes in for the work I do I'll pass almost every penny on to.
You When I come home. I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who comes back home for you If I go, then I know I'm. Gonna be, I'm gonna be the. Man who's going over you. But I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500.
More if I'd be a man. Who walked a thousand. Miles to fall down. When I'm lonely, well, I know I'm gonna be. I'm gonna be.
The man who's lonely without you. And when I'm dreaming. Well, I know I'm gonna dream, I'm gonna dream about the time when I'm with you. When I go out, well, I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you. And when I.
Come home, I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man who comes back home with you. I'm gonna be the man who's coming home. Walk a thousand miles to fall. Down at your door. Those must be comfortable shoes.
I bet you could walk all day in shoes like that and not feel a thing. I wish I had shoes like that. It's intermission time. So how about taking a break? Get out and stretch a little.
And relax before the show begins again. And why not make it refreshment time, too? We have lots of tasty, delicious treats waiting for you at the refreshment center. Hey, guys, look what I've got. Check out these awesome earbuds I'm using right now.
Look at that. That's wood right there. That's actual wood. Why would you use wood to make technology? Because they're...
It's like... They're steam... Is steampunk really wood? I thought it was more of a brass thing. Well, you got to work the wood in to hold the brass together.
These are the fancy high-end steampunk versions with a mic built in, mind you. But, yeah, where would I get these, you wonder? Tweaked Audio. Way to pitch. You want to hear more, you say?
TweakedAudio.com. Hey, they are available in three styles and seven colors only. And they sound pretty damn good. I kind of forgot because I hadn't had my old pair in a while and I was using the knockoff crappy ones I bought at the store. And I got these and put them in.
I was like, oh, shit, that's right. These are actually really good. So they are professional. Quality earbuds, mind you. And, you know, noise reducing, compatible with your iPods and most phones, unless you have a dumb phone.
You should really get a smartphone, not a dumb phone. But So anyway, the basic rundown here, if you need yourself some earbuds, tweakedaudio.com. And if you go there, there's a deal. There's a Meltdown deal. If you go, there's a discount code, and you put in Meltdown, you get 33% off and free shipping.
You guys are excited, right? Yeah. Oh, yeah. As well you should be. tweakedaudio.com. Use the Meltdown code.
That's all I'm saying. Dave, I do not get superheroes. Oh my god, I don't get you. What don't you get? Towerbot here.
Well, the meatbags were going to say that if you're a geek and like podcasts, then you could try Tower of Technobabble at www.toweroftechnobabble.com. Then this started. Well, it's up to you. I'm gonna get my taser and put a stop to this. Towerbot out.
Okay, monkeys. It's nap time. You keep saying you got something for me. And something you call love, but too fast. Hi, this is Crispin Glover, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
Music It's part of your problem, you know. You haven't seen enough movies. All of life's riddles are answered in the movies. And now, on with the show. Do I want to know?
Adam said that I shouldn't forget to mention that the tent in front of the masked stage is a really bad idea for anyone from Fourcastle listening. The tent in front of the masked stage... really bad idea takes up a lot of space you know gets in the way of the crowd can't see as well you know really sound does not have to be straight back i promise you can still good do good sound over to the side and then the other tent just get rid of it move it somewhere. Keep that in mind forecastle this is for you yes. And I should mention, while we're on, like, forecastle feedback, just in case they listen. Because they're going to.
They should. I mean, we're promoting the hell out of it. Forecastle's great. I love what it does for Louisville. However, you really need to give your information booth more usable information.
We need more than the map. When I went there, those people didn't know a damn thing. Really. And it's not for any lack of trying. It's that they were not given... anything beyond the map that we could provide you.
You could say, here, take a map. I mean, that was something. Oh, they didn't even do that. I'll mention that because at least today we're like, well, we have a map for you. They didn't give you the instructional how to hand a map to someone seminar or something?
You know, I don't know. I just figured that one out on my own. You're winging it. Yeah. You are out of control.
Swear to God. Oh, I had another feedback. What was my other feedback? I forgot. People suck?
Oh, wait. No, no. That's just my general opinion. Actually, you know, I will say people turned in lost items. They turned in lost money, lost phones, lost credit cards.
That's really cool. Lost money is pushing. That's... A lost wallet, I would always be like, but if it's never going to actually make it. Actual cash got turned in.
Actual cash, I'm just like, it's never going to make it to the right person. I'm just giving it to someone else at this point. So I don't feel bad if people just keep cash. It's my fault for dropping it. But if it's like a wallet and it can get back to the actual person, then I'm always forgiving it back.
But cash, I don't know what to tell you on that one. No, actual cash got turned in. So that was, I mean, yeah. Yeah. Here, I found this cash.
And I'm keeping this 20. Tough luck. Though he did ask us how much it was, and he said, well, if no one comes to get it, can I come back and get it? And we're like, um. You could have just taken it, I suppose, if you really wanted it.
Yes, I don't know. We won't be here. Since you're interested in that, you should have just kept it, I guess. That's what I was thinking. I was like, um.
If you. Really didn't want it, then you wouldn't worry about it, now would you? So. Feedback for him. All right.
Okay. I come from this musical family. My mother is a piano teacher. My father was a conductor. Where did he conduct?
On the Baltimore in Ohio. So, and then I have three movies because they're more orchestral soundtracks. We definitely work in the scores. Although I just. Added a fourth one in my head.
On the fly. That's how she rolls. I know. So, Amelie. I love the soundtrack to Amelie.
All right. Okay. You want more of like the main theme? Yeah. So that's just it.
I just watch the movie, and I just watch and listen. Like, I don't even have to read the subtitles anymore. I've seen it so much. I just kind of, I like the visuals. I'll glance up periodically from whatever I'm doing.
Do you say the lines out loud? No, I don't have them memorized. But I just, it's a beautiful score. Piano plays softly Thank you. Thank you. piano plays softly Thank you.
Same with the red violin. Gorgeous score. I don't have a particular part of it. We will pick a very moving track. Okay.
And play it for you right now. Okay. Thank you. This is the first time I've seen this in real life. I've never seen anything like.
It. You know what this is? It's the world's smallest violin playing just for the waitresses. I put 8 Mile on my list, and I actually like whatever the main song is that he does. Lose Yourself?
No, when he's up on the stage. Doing his rapping. Like what he won the Oscar for? Probably. I don't know.
But anyway. The one that played on the video channels quite often. Yeah, probably. That came out a little late to that. Well, again...
But I really like it. And it's one of those I... As much as people made fun of Eminem, and still kind of with good reason, I mean, he's a very ridiculous character some of the time. He's one of the few guys I've ever seen who can be totally stupid and totally ridiculous, and then turn around and do a really good... hardcore rap song I know or like a very serious like as much as his goofy like video oriented ones were yeah which was most of the stuff they put out there with the videos like if you would listen to his other tracks they were all about his horrible personal life yeah like we all kind of hate Kim now but really which is really odd considering how it turned out together but yeah It's weird that, yeah, so much of his, like, personal life ends up in his music.
I mean, he really was sort of an artist on some level that a lot of people didn't give him credit for because he was so goofy in his videos. And white. And, well. White from Detroit. Again, as we've said, white people, lame.
You know, white people rapping. Except the Beastie Boys. Except the Beastie Boys, which is totally different. I mean, the Beastie Boys are just a class of their own. Yeah.
I mean, yeah. They're awesome and we all know it. Yeah. But, yeah, Eminem... He's hit and miss, but when he hits, he hits so damn good they give him an Oscar.
Yeah. And that, again, is kind of amazing. The fact that the Oscars, like, I thought it was weird when they gave Bruce Springsteen an Oscar. It was really, like, turned everything upside down when they handed one to Eminem. So I never saw that one coming.
I don't know. It was them really trying to. break out of their mold and not be old white people even though they still are old white people but that was like probably one of the few time music is about the only time they did that the what was the part out there for a pimp was another one of those that they just kind of like look we're not so white anymore but then they give like the movies to the most old boring white movies you can i mean they they try every once in a while not very hard but every once in a while you know they give it. A shot. Look, if you had. One shot or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted in one moment, would you capture it? just let it slip yo his palms are.
Sweaty knees weak arms are heavy there's vomit on his sweater already mom's spaghetti he's nervous but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs but he keeps on forgetting what he wrote down the whole crowd goes so loud he opens his mouth but the words won't come out he's choking how everybody's choking now the. Clock's run out time's up over. Snap back to reality oh There goes gravity, oh, there goes gravity choke He's so mad but he won't give up that as he know He won't have it, he knows, it's all back to these. Ropes It don't. Matter, he's dope, he knows that but he's broke He's so stagnant, he knows when he goes back to this mobile home That's when it's back to the lab again, yo This old rhapsody better go capture this moment.
You better lose yourself in the music The moment you own it. You better never let it go You only get one shot Do not miss your chance to blow This opportunity comes once in. And sold nada. So the soap opera is told. It unfolds, I suppose, it's old partner, but the beat goes on. You better lose yourself in the music The moment you own it. You better never let it go You only get one shot Do not miss your chance to blow This opportunity comes once in a lifetime You better lose yourself in the music The moment you own it.
You better never let it go Let it. Go, you only get one shot Do not miss your chance to blow This opportunity comes once in a lifetime You ready? No more games, I'ma change. What you call rage Tear this motherfuckin' roof off like Tudor's cage I was playin' in the beginning, the mood all changed I've been chewed up and spit out and booed offstage But I kept rhymin' and stepped right in the next cypher Best believe somebody's payin. I just love being the rap king of Arizona. So my bonus. I do allow bonus tracks. Okay, my bonus.
And again, it's more movie. It's Ghost in the Shell. That soundtrack is amazing. And I wish I knew. Even the track numbers.
And unfortunately, I lost my copy. They're insanely expensive because you have to have it imported. I remember back when you had to import it, and I used to have geeks come into the store. Again, these were back when there was a video store, people. And nerdy kids would come in and be like... actually, if you go back far enough, they don't even refer to it as anime.
They would refer to it as something that is not PC anymore. Japanimation. But then they got a big sign that said anime, so everybody knew, well, let's have it a real thing to call it. So, yeah, all the dorky little kids would come in and be like, do you know where anime is? And, you know, the little ones I would point there and leave them alone.
And the older ones I would stand there and watch because they were also the ones who would rip everything off. Right, right. So, anime. It brings in a diverse crowd as well. But there was a particular song on there.
And it's when, it's towards the end of the movie. During the scenes where she's battling with the crazy spider monster in like the old abandoned greenhouse kind of train station place. And it gets really spooky, creepy, beautiful. Love that. My heart.
Who are you? Terutsuki to yomunari Yowai ni kami ama kudarite Yowake nuetori naku. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for watching.
Me. so so. So that is, in fact, your Killer 5 plus bonus. Right. So we've gotten yours. You're taken care of now.
You've gotten at least enough for now. I'm sure later you'll be like, oh, I can't believe I didn't play that one. And then it's an excuse to come back on the show. Yeah, exactly. It's a plan.
I'll be back. We're sort of wrapping things up here. Any other general thoughts about the festivities so far? Well, you know... Again, it's really all over the place.
It's way more crowded this year than last year. It's gotten huge. I mean, that's one thing I will say. Like I said, I remember going to the first. It was one of the first couple.
I don't know if it was the very first year, but I went to it when it was in Tyler Park. And the music was one guy with an acoustic guitar standing next to the tunnel. The tunnel that goes through the park. Again, if you're not from here. There's two sides of the park and there's a weird tunnel that goes in and connects them.
He was standing next to that like playing an acoustic guitar by himself. And that was the only music that I remember. And there was like art hanging on the trees. Like it was a very DIY kind of thing. So flash forwarding to now when we've taken over half the city and there's multiple giant stage setups and a big tent in the way where people complain about it.
And people pay $ 400 for weekend VIP. It's crazy. Like.... The part that I really, I mean, specifically the part that's funny for me is I also remember a year or two after that year, a young JK, who organizes this festival now, when I was back just before the podcast started when we were just doing art shows and stuff, a young JK emailed me to ask if he could hand out flyers in front of my art show. I still think back on that and I think it's pretty funny, actually.
How things have changed. I also think Okay, now he's running this billion-dollar operation, and I'm still lucky to string together the money for a podcast. Something's gone horribly awry in my life, but I'm hanging in there. JK, you know, hook me up. That's all I'm saying.
But, okay, back to what you were saying about the hugeness of it. I was just having my reminiscing about that. I just, yeah, and... maybe part of it is the better weather this year, other than the temporary evacuation. Other than when we almost got killed. Yeah.
You know, um, the tsunami on. The Ohio, but there are a lot, a lot of people, um, but in general, from a festival standpoint, I find this to be a pretty mellow crowd. And I like the way that because the stages, the way they have it placed on the waterfront and on the lawn, everything's kind of separate. So you, You really have some space to move around, and I like that. I really appreciate that.
So it makes it feel a little less claustrophobic? I think that's another one I was going to say. As much as I'm, as previously mentioned, a jerk, and I hate people, sometimes I'll get out there amidst the crowd of craziness, and I'm just kind of like, it's not that bad. Again, not everybody is the kind of people I would probably hang out with, and vice versa, I am sure. But.
Like, sometimes we can all kind of get along, you know? It's like it's been a good crowd, I have to say. I don't like large crowds. I don't like drunk people. I don't like standing around.
So there's a lot of, like, negatives that could affect it. But, you know, I've been here two days now, and I've had a pretty good time. And I have to say, I would hate to ever plan an outdoor event. Like, I was doing indoor events, and I still stressed out about the weather because it will kill your event if it's rainy or whatever. So watching them, like, have to freak out when there's, like, Weather coming in and we're sitting there on a stage next to the river, I mean, it's it's not a minor thing then it's a huge ordeal so the way that they sort of held their own and like held down the fort and like dealt with i mean how many thousand people are supposed to be here this weekend.
I mean over the course of the weekend 75 yeah i mean that's a lot of people to have to deal with and especially deal with when half of them were probably freaking out or complaining or. Whatever so drunk or high That too. The high ones probably weren't complaining so much. They were just laying in the field and they had to shove them. Right.
Evacuate. Come on, get the hell out. But I don't know. Everybody seemed to conduct themselves pretty well. I was surprised, actually.
Yeah. Especially with that weird circumstance in the middle of it. How well everybody conducted themselves. The forecastle people and the crowd itself. I was surprised.
Only thing I would recommend... is they could have given the information booth a little more information about it, since everyone wanted to stop and ask us questions. Those people don't know what the hell. And we just didn't know. Those people, we had no idea. Yeah.
Mostly you. Mostly me. I don't know. Here we're being evacuated, but I'm here. Answering your question.
The girl at the. Front gate that was turning me away was showing how this giant metal sculpture over here could be a lightning rod, and the hippies shouldn't hang around that. So she was using science to back up her story. So she was pretty impressive, too. So the lesson you've learned, don't stand next to metal sculptures in a lightning storm.
Take that away, kids. All right. With that, we do want to say, even with our poking fun along the way, we did want to say thank you to the Fourcastle Festival for letting us loiter around this weekend and do our coverage from here and piece together a fun soundtrack episode. It's really exciting to have an event like this in Louisville and to involve the city with it and let us be a part of it. It's kind of become a well-known thing.
Looking at all the bands, everybody that's on this kind of turns up at those other... I mean, they're at South by Southwest, and they're at Bonnaroo, and then they come here. So I feel like that's kind of a big deal if we ended up somewhere on that list. We're not quite as big as those, but it's pretty. Damn big for this city.
This is ranked really high up there, and it's a really cool thing for Louisville to have. So it puts us on the map. It's pretty impressive in its own right, just the fact that, again, he's built this in like 10 years. And someone can put this together. Oh, my gosh, yeah.
It's gone from a dork hanging out in the park to this festival. This is kind of amazing. So kudos to JK for bringing it in, I suppose. He's pieced together a pretty massive show. So they are at forecastlefest.com.
So go plan for next year, I suppose. I'm sure it will be back next year bigger, more elaborate, and crazier than ever, so. Go get on the internets and find yourself the info and sign up for next year. Absolutely. All right, to take us out.
Sometimes the song or the artist may be one level, and the soundtrack might be another. But you know what? Doesn't matter to me. It all works. Sometimes you pull off a really silly soundtrack.
That's fine. So this one would be from the Wayne's World 2 soundtrack. Because, again, I thought we'd round things out with another festival-oriented film. And that one, the entire plot of the movie is them putting together, if you remember, Wainstock. Right, right.
So the whole thing centers around them orchestrating this huge festival, much like we're at today. So the other tie-in, I thought, was to go out with Louie Louie from Robert Plant, who is playing here this weekend. Yeah, in fact, actually, he may be playing soon. I thought it was tomorrow. No.
No, maybe he is tomorrow. I don't remember. You're drunk. No, I'm not. I've only had two PBRs.
You can't be drunk. Off two PBRs. You're such a hipster. Oh, my God. It was the cheapest beer.
Okay, poor or hipster. Sometimes both. It's a fine line. It's a fine line. I mean, the only choices were Heineken or PBR, and I will go with PBR.
Heineken? Fuck that shit. I mean, it's not like I have a lot of options. In the words of Frank Booth. Fuck that shit.
All right. Not like I had a lot of options. And I just didn't feel like dealing with the bourbon booth. I went super square. Like, the PBR seemed like it was a much lighter option.
I'm super square. I went with the soda pop kids. So, as if I wasn't dork enough. There you go. All right.
I think that's about it, is it not? I think so. Well, thank you so much, Brian. Thank you for joining me this week. Again, I like having people on, and you've definitely held your own better than other people along the way.
So you are invited back anytime you would like. Well, thanks. And I thought about another soundtrack song, and I'll keep it for next time. Yes. Next time.
You've got one down, four to go. You are all set. Yeah. My parting words of wisdom to everyone is get a life. We'll provide the soundtrack.
That's it. We're out of here. Bye. Bye. I'm making home.
Blue and white, oh baby We gotta go now. Blue and white, oh baby We gotta go now. One night, one day, I sail the sea And I think of a girl, I constantly I sail that ship, I dream she's there I smell the roses in her hair Blue and white, oh. Baby We gotta go now Blue and white, oh baby We gotta go now. Oh yeah Come on baby, come on.
Me see Jermaine to a. Lonely door It. Won't be long, me see me love Me take her in me arms again Me say I'll never leave her there But. Look in the way, oh. Baby, we gotta go now. . . . .
