It's time for Movie Meltdown's Attack of the Killers soundtrack. The live transmission has begun, and we're into the final hour of hell. What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown's Attack on the Killers soundtrack. I'm Brian, and I'm here once again to build you a Frankenstein-like soundtrack that is both interesting and eclectic. And this week, I'll get a little help from our iconic special guest.
But before we get to that, this past week, I, like most geeks out there, went to see the new Godzilla movie. And regardless of your feelings on it as a movie, and in fact, come back to us in a couple weeks, we're planning a full movie episode on the original recipe show. So give us a couple weeks and we've got a special guest lined up to sit in for the Godzilla discussion. But aside from your thoughts about the movie, as I sat there watching the credits roll at the end, I was listening to the score and I was like, there's one word that kept coming through. bombastic like it was so impressive because it knew exactly what kind of movie it was and so it built that score to fit it perfectly so as i sat there i was like yeah i'm gonna have to play some of this because it's it's just so perfect for the type of film that they made With that, I thought we would kick things off this week with a destructive track from the new Godzilla score, one that is called Last Shot.
And I think it very specifically showcases that bombastic style. Last Shot. Thank you. And yes, I thought we would continue on on this Godzilla train and head into one that is also from that same film, but a different song, and one that kind of caught me off guard, and yet I was very pleased to hear it. It's its own little joke if you've seen the movie.
If not, I won't spoil it, but you can enjoy the song either way. Want to listen to the king? You look like an Elvis fan. You look like an angel. You look like an angel.
Walk like an angel. Talk like an angel. But I got wise. You're the devil in disguise. Yes, you are the devil in disguise.
With your kisses you cheated and you. Schemed heaven knows how you lied to. Me you're not the way. You seem you look like an angel. Walk like an angel.
Talk like an angel. But I got wise you're the day. I was. In heaven, but. I was sure surprised.
Heaven helped me, I didn't see the devil in your eyes. You look like an angel, look like an angel, walk like an. Angel, walk like an angel, talk like an. Angel, but I got wild. You're the devil in the sky, oh yes you are.
You're the devil in disguise. Oh, yes, you are. Devil in disguise. Oh, yes, you are. Devil in disguise.
Oh, yes, you are. Devil in disguise. Oh, yes, you. Are. Elvis Presley movies.
He was the king. And yes, with that reference to the 98 abomination, I thought we would continue this little run with what might be the best thing to come out of that Roland Emmerich mess. Well, with the exception of those awesome Taco Bell commercials. I wish you could swim like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim. No, nothing, nothing will keep us together.
We can be them. We can make it worse Just for one day I, I will. Be king We'll be right back. Shut up. And we kissed as though nothing could fall.
Yes, that was Jacob and the Wallflowers bringing down the horse with their cover of Bowie's Heroes. I always kind of liked that version. It's no Bowie, but then no one can be Bowie, but I thought it was an interesting take on the song, and again, an odd movie for it to turn up in, but whatever. We was hitchhiking down a long. And lonesome road. All of a sudden, there shined a shiny demon on me. In the middle of the road. And he said.
Hey, this is KG of Tenacious D, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown with Brian. Oh, yeah. Fuck! It's time for some blaxploitation appreciation. You're damn right.
So now as we continue on with this giant fighting monster theme we've got going here, I thought we would move into one of those, you know, as you know, one of my favorite segments and keep that going with a song entitled Fight Back, which is actually by Solomon Burke from the 1972 film Cool Breeze. Thank you. Meet the Lord. Sidney Lord Jones. He's Cool Breeze.
And Cool Breeze is cold business. Three million bucks worth, maybe more. Von Keefe's the biggest. Diamond broker on the coast. What's in it for me?
The money we make will be used to set up. A black people's bank. You'll be into legitimate business and you'll be doing something to help Soul. Brothers for once. You'd have to be white not to recognize him.
What about him? He's in San Quentin. Was, Lieutenant. Was. Hey.
Where you going, man? Funny looking dick, all right. You go tell Mr. Finney and Sidney Lord-Jones who's here to see you. Everything's keyed to go at midnight tomorrow.
The soft spot's here, through the old steam tunnel. Any questions? Travis, the muscle. Roy, the boxman. Mercer.
Cheeky baby. The money man. Johnny, the driver. He had a plan to hit the man right where it hurts. In the diamonds.
Three million bucks worth of Whitey's Ice. And baby, that's cold. The dude with. The diamonds is deadly. Hold it, Mr.
Tinkerhead. Get him up. Nervous, Travis? A little bit. Now toss that over here.
Cool breeze. Did he do it for the people? Or The Price, starring Thelmos Razalala as Sidney Lord-Jones with three million bucks worth of ice. And baby, that's cold, cool breeze from MGM. ¶ ¶ ¶ ¶ ¶ ¶ ¶ ¶. The wonder of you.
Wonderfest is coming up, and we will soon be in the middle of it, I'm assuming, as we usually are, with recording awesome episodes like we do. So you should. Plan to head over there now just for that reason alone, but I thought. We would let you guys tell people what you have in store for. Us this year.
Wonderfest, you know, it's technically a hobby show, a modeling show, but a lot of our guests, in the 25 years we've been in operation, I've seen their careers change Some have ended and some have been modified drastically by CG and film. So we're going to kind of talk about a lot of that at the show as well. But we brought back a lot of the old school folks. I could be wrong, but I don't feel like there are many other conventions to where it is like a large family reunion for the modelers and come in, enter the contest every single year for the crew that gets together along with the guests. Everyone interacts with one another.
There's no like, you know, idea of, you know, well, just because I'm a guest, I'm more superior than you or anything like that. It's just everybody seems to just get along as one being. Everybody has common, you know, childhood experience when it comes to this stuff. So we grew up with the same movies and building the same models and playing with the same toys. And some people took it further and became designers and affects people.
And some people just maintained a, you know, pretty. Aggressive hobby. A lot of these guys spent a lot of money on the show. But I guess if they haven't been sold yet, where would they go on the old internets there to find out more about it? Wonderfest.com.
There you go. What weekend? The May 31st and the 1st. May 31st and the 1st. It's time for the Killer Five.
Yes, that's right. It is time for the Killer Five. And as I previously mentioned, it is with a special guest and a pre-order. guest on the Original Recipe show. I'm very proud this week to have the Killer Five chosen by none other than the iconic punk legend, John Doe. Now, we sat down and talked to John recently, and as we did, he actually goes into a lot of amazing stories and sort of history on him coming up in the music business and and deciding to cross over into acting and movies.
So if you haven't heard that, I definitely recommend, especially if you're a John Doe fan, to go back and listen to episode 263 of The Original Recipe Show, and that will give you a good sense of sort of where he's coming from and the awesome guy that he is. So by the time we got to him picking some songs, he sort of already told so many stories and shared so much that, He really didn't go into tons of stories about these individual picks. He just sort of, you know, ran through them. But I don't really have a problem with that because, you know what? If an iconic rock star wants to come on your show and play DJ, that's fine with me.
Feel free. Any other rock stars out there that want to come on, just, you know, drop. Me an email. It'll be cool. So we will gladly play John's Killer Five here.
And as I said, he's just going to kind of like knock out the ones that he really likes and he felt were really, impressive and important songs to him over the years. So we're just going to roll through these. This is John's Killer Five. Anything that Ennio Morricone did. Definitely.
Anything that Ennio Morricone did. ¶ ¶ © transcript Emily Beynon © transcript Emily Beynon. As for his first pick there, I thought we would go back once upon a time in the West with that track entitled The Grand Massacre. Again, following suit with sort of a very violent group of songs this time around, but oh well. So the next one maybe will get a much more calm and less violent movie. Oh no, wait, that's not going to happen.
Gimme Shelter in The Departed. Somewhere, I mean, that keeps replaying in that thing. Yeah. Thank you. Oh, the.
Storm is friendly My very life to serve If I don't get some shelter Yeah, I'm gonna burn even further Oh, dear Lord It's good to shatter It's time to shine away It's time to shine away Ooh, see the fire is sweeping Ah Oh, God, let it ever fly away. Oh, dear, it's just a shot away. It's just a shot away. Hey, my love, it's just. A show away, it's just a show away.
It's Wednesday, and I will die. It's just a. Kiss away It's just a kiss away. Elliot Smith in Good Will Hunting. I'll fake it through the day with some help.
Johnny Walkin' Red Send the poison rain Down the drain To put bad thoughts in. My head. The two tickets torn in half And a lot of nothing to do. Do you miss me. Misery, like you say you do.
The man in the park. Read the lines. Told me I'm strong and hardly ever wrong. I said, man, you mean you. Had plans for both of.
Us that involved a trip. Out of town. to a place I'd. Seen in a magazine that you'd. Left lying around. Good attitude Do you miss me?
Miss, miss me Like you say to me I know. You'd rather see me gone Than to see me. The way that I am when I am in the life anyway. Next door, the TV's flashing blue. Frames on the wall.
It's a comedy of errors you see. It's about taking. A fall To vanish. Into oblivion It's easy to do And I try to be But you know me I come back when you want me. To Do you miss me?
Miss misery like you say you do? Yes, that was Elliot Smith's Miss Misery from the Good Will Hunting soundtrack. Want some music for your ears? You know, what they did in The Graduate was totally radical. Does your group have more calories than theirs? Do all the hippies seem to get the job on you? Deep sleep alone's another stupid mess. But there's no need to blame.

That is called The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine. Probably one of the lesser known tracks on that album for most people. This whole idea sounds pretty half-baked. No, it's not. It's completely fake.
And what's his name from Radiohead? Johnny Greenwood? Oh, yeah. And There Will Be Blood? Holy shit.
I had no idea that he was capable of that kind of orchestration. Yeah. It's interesting when you get these people that work in bands, and then they hand them a score, and you hear Free Rain, do whatever you want, and they just nail it. It's amazing. Yeah. © transcript Emily Beynon Thank you.
Thank you. © transcript Emily. Beynon so so Thank you. © transcript Emily Beynon © transcript Emily Beynon. Yes, as he said, that was Johnny Greenwood from There Will Be Blood, and the song was titled... Prospectors arrive. So once again, I'd like to say thank you to John Doe for providing us with The Killer Five this week.
He had some great picks and we loved having him on the show in general. Would love to have him come back. He's a great guest and has some interesting stories and has a very distinct perspective into the music industry, the film industry. So he's just really great to have on. And I wanted to say thank you to him once again.
Thank you, sir. May I have another? So with that, I thought we would spiral off down another road here. And having John on, I thought we would pay tribute to him and take a look at something else in his career. But we would go back quite a ways into the early days.
And as you cross over into the world of film, you come across a very strange movie called Erg. Erg. Yes, that's what I said. It is called Erg, A Music War. And it's actually a British film that was a concert film, more or less, but it grouped together a whole lot of sort of weird bands at the time, and some pretty impressive ones as well.
So you get sort of this compilation of punk rock and new wave and everything that was sort of breaking at that point or right at the pinnacle of that pop culture moment. So it is a really interesting look at all these different bands. And it was filmed in 1980 and then eventually released in 1982. And of course, among those amazing bands on hand is X. So we will kick things off here with Beyond and Back from X.
Now you're somewhere else I'll move to the couch and start my. This is no place. This is no place. You need to control all the pain. Never let go.
Thoughts you wanted. I don't just want to. This is no place. This is no place. You can't take it to another level.
Give me some rhythm! I need some rhythm! Hey, man. What is this place? It's the rhythm I need!
Suppose they gave a music war. I need this! And everybody came. And this one is full of moral fiber. And they kept on coming It's frustrating.
Welcome to the Ritz. Welcome to the Ritz. Thirty-four bands that will never play the bronze. Thirty-five songs that you'll never hear in an elevator hall. a music war this. Time they've gone too far a movie maybe maybe.
This time they've gone too far Yes, Erg, it's such a fascinating grouping of bands that I thought we would continue on this run, and we already had X sort of representing the Los Angeles end of it, so we will continue on with two more bands that were sort of making the L.A. scene at the time. First up will be Oingo Boingo with Ain't This the Life. Oingo Boingo We're all up in the penthouse high. Our states are in a martini stride. Folks below, they say it ain't fair.
Hell with them, I really don't care. Try to be more of a man. This is the life. I'm everybody on a big jet plane. I got so drunk that I can feel no pain.
The thing is, I'm not the worker. You can't promise that the gold's at $ 50. It's a toothy night, everything's all right, woman. And a wife, oh, ain't this the life? Oh, ain't this the life?
Oh, baby, baby, baby, ain't this the life? Oh, ain't this the life? Oh, baby, baby, baby, ain't this the life? Oh, ain't this the life? The natives are better than the lobsters.
It's a plain cone that's like a French king. It takes a few minutes to hold it. It's the life. They could go out on. A . . . . . . .
I said, niggas alive. I have to think of. Some life I. Have to think of some life I have to think of. Some life Well, come on, little mama, let's tear this damn place up Ah, little mama, let's tear this.
Damn place up Ah, little mama, let me see you do your stuff. I believe. A little baby gonna be gone in a. Long, long time. I believe a little baby gonna be gone in a long, long time.
Come on, Lily Mama, let me show you a really good time. Oh, Lily Mama, take that place down. Oh, oh, oh. That's that, that's that. Come on.
Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on my little mama, turn this damn place on. Come on my little mama, turn this damn place on.
Turn it on. Turn it on. Come on, little man. Tell us, little, little, little. Run back!
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da! . . . . Yes, that was the always intense and amazing The Cramps with Tear It Up. He was the wizard of a thousand kings. And I chance to meet him one night wandering. So as I said, we've been to the Chicago Wizard World before, so they've got quite a few.
They've got a lot. They're all over the country. That's what I was going to say. Since they're inviting us to hang around here, I thought we would go ahead and give the rundown. That's the difference with this one is it's not just in one city.
It's something they've done kind of everywhere now. They've sort of taken over. So you can go to WizardWorld.com and find out where they are in the near future. The rundown of the upcoming ones, end of May into June. Is Atlanta.
You've got Philadelphia after that, San Antonio, back to Chicago, Richmond. So it's like anywhere in this general part of the country, you know, the United States. Are you stopping at Richmond because we've got more to go? Oh, there's plenty. That's what I'm saying.
Nashville, Austin, Ohio. I thought Ohio was just generalized. You know, that state. But anyway, yes, you can go to wizardworld.com and find out where the next show will. Be near you.
You should definitely go. Come hang out. That's what we're doing. Definitely check out wizardworld.com for all of your wizard world type needs. So now I wanted to continue on with a segment that I kicked off recently and get back into those epic 80s songs.
There's some amazing stuff out there that kicked in. You know, 80s movies are sort of amazing in their own right, but then when you look at some of the music that gets worked into them, and especially you get into the big action stuff and the odd songs that get paired with these action movies, like, I don't know, maybe Iron Eagle and Queen? Who saw that coming? I mean, yes, they did a lot of soundtracks at that point. They'd become very popular and were sort of cashing in along the way.
You can blame them. But that's still, it's such a weird mixture there. But in a way, those two are the perfect pairing. So now we'll play Queen's One Vision from the Iron Eagle soundtrack. And maybe we'll do a little intro here from a very special guest.
80s epic. Hi, this is Louis Gossett Jr. This is Movie Meltdown. Thank you. One man, one goal.
One mission, one heart, one soul Just one solution, one flash. Of light. Yeah, one God, one vision, one flesh, one vote. One true religion, one voice, one hope, one real decision. Oh, no.
No wrong, no right I'm gonna tell you there's no black and no white No blood, no state One world, one vision One flesh, one bone, one true religion. One race, one hope, one real decision. I had a dream. When I was young A dream of sweet illusion, a glimpse of hope and unity, and visions of one sweet union. And in my heart it shows, look what they've done to my.
Dream. One vision. Give me your head. Give me your heart. I'm ready.
There's only one direction. One world. One. It's a celebration. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Whoa, yeah! You just watch the hood. That's what it's there for. Try cutting out that music. All right, we're rounding things out on this episode.
Again, I wanted to say thank you to John Doe for his Killer 5 picks, so I thought with that we would let him send you off with a song from the Black Snake Moans soundtrack. This is The Losing Kind from John Doe. Thank you once again for listening, and with that I will remind you, get a life and we'll provide the soundtrack. I don't know that I ever knew you I don't know that I ever knew you But you say you can see right through. Me The moon.
Is bright and the road is clear The moon is bright and the road is clear. Did you just say. The end is near? You said you. Gave me all your kisses.
You said you. Gave me all your kisses. Now you're fed up cause you feel kissed. I wish we were the losing kind I wish we were the losing kind guitar. Solo This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and edited by The Oddity Studios.
