Hi, this is Robert Hayes, and I'm listening to Movie Meltdown. This episode is rated M for Misty. Yes, that's right, this is a Misty episode, so it will be laced with profanity even more than usual. If you're not comfortable with this level of profanity... Perhaps this isn't the episode for you, but we have many other episodes to choose from that do not feature Misty and will probably be far less offensive.
Okay, maybe. That having been said, on with the show. It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised. Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million. Kilowatts of power.
What's up. And welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian. I am Misty. And I'm Jay.
Are you now? Yes, I am. Okie dokie. And we are coming to you live via digital recording from the bastion of awesomeness. Fucking A.
It's our kitchen. With its ugliest wallpaper. That I can't change now because boyfriend likes it. It's classic. I love the wallpaper.
It's got glitter in it. It is glitter. Now we'll be distracted just looking at the glitter. That's why I never get anything done. It is by far the ugliest wallpaper I've ever seen.
But I love it. I don't know. That stuff going in my stairwell is pretty bad. But then they messed it up and they slapped paint on half of it but not the other. I'm like one or the other.
Either paint it or Leave it alone, like it's so old I would have left it there probably. This is old enough that there's a picture of me as a baby in that dishwasher with that same fucking ugly ass wallpaper. Okay, wait a second. Let's focus, aside from the wallpaper, on the in that dishwasher part. The door was open.
For a moment. Apparently I was fucking determined to be in that. I was like six months old. I was determined to be in that fucking dishwasher. They were like, ah, we'll just put it on a rinse and hold.
It's not the same dishwasher, though. It's in the same dishwasher hole. Yeah, it's a newer dishwasher that's fallen apart. It's the best slam ever. You're a dishwasher hole.
Oh, it's going to be one of those episodes. All right, glittery wallpaper. We are back in the bastion of awesomeness with, oh, I got new curtains. They are. And there's buttons.
Button button he's got the button. Bonus points for moving quotes and we have sound effects you already said you. Want to. Use it i mean it's my fault i brought it. One of the previous whenever i want to test and just like.
It'll just be that noise the whole. Episode that's my favorite the crazy space bird yeah one of the previous times we were uh doing this here we on some random like two-hour tangent of. Old toy talk jay and i started talking about old like crazy laser guns we had as a kid and I was describing that one, and then while I was moving stuff around the day, I came across it. I'm like, ooh, I'm going to take it over and show Jay. And then Misty wanted to play with it.
I did. I was so excited. We were mad. One of our friends had one of the toys that Jay had when he was a kid, and we're like, ooh, we'll buy that. And then he went and sold it to somebody else behind our back, and we were not very happy with him.
Pretty sneaky, sis. I was pretty pissed. Another box, too. What was it called again? Sonic Phaser.
Actually, in all fairness, I could get it off of eBay cheaper. Than what we sold it for. But that's not the point. Yeah. It's like, you could have sold it to me.
If you guys at home have a sonic phaser you don't really need anymore, send it over to us. Jay could use it. Hell yeah. We could have laser battle fights. I have to get my own sonic blaster because I don't think he would let me play with his.
Probably not. I'll let you. Then how can we have fights? We take turns. Trade off.
Here, now you shoot me. I'll take turns dying. Actually, now that I think about it, that actual gun was involved in a laser battle when I was a kid. But think about this. Like, I like that one because it's awesome and it's like a space gun and it lights up.
But my friend, we were having a sleepover or whatever, and he had my tracer gun. If you're 100 years old, you remember the little plastic discs? Yeah. He had that one and I had the beepy gun there. I'm like, wait a minute.
It sounds cooler. It sounds cooler. It looks cooler. But I was getting hit with like shrapnel and stuff. I bet that was when you just like throw it at him.
I guess. You probably put an eye out. That's why I have none of my toys. It doesn't seem like a fair battle the more I think about it. No.
But anyways. Geek activities. What have you guys seen me? We tried to watch a movie the other night. It's an hour and a half movie.
I condensed it into 20 minutes. Was there a scanning button involved? The whole movie. Except for like the, what, 10, 15 minutes that Corey Haim was in it. Was it that long?
If that. He had the most horrible, god-awesome accent I've ever fucking heard. I thought you told me about this one. Or is this another one with a bad accent? This was Do Not Disturb.
Oh, I don't think I've heard this. Which means don't pick up the movie. Don't look at it. Don't touch it. Do not disturb this from the shelf.
Just leave it alone. It's not a title of a movie. It's instructions. It's a warning. I was like, I got it.
I'm like, all right. I got it in the mail from the Netflix. I'm like, I'll watch this. About five minutes in, I'm like, this is the worst movie I've ever seen. I cannot watch this.
I can't do it. I just can't. But I was like, but Corey's in it. And this is one of the last things he did. He looks awful.
Because when we saw him at the convention, he looked good. He was doing much better at that point, it seemed like. So was this after that? I'm not sure. It sat on shelves for a while.
It didn't get released until 2012, I think, maybe. So he'd already been gone for like two years. It's for the best. But, and I'm not saying I love Cory. Everybody who knows me knows that I will fight to the death for Cory.
But that movie was so bad. Well, he ended up in some bad movies, especially towards the end. This one was, I can't, I'm not even sure what the entire plot was because I gave up so soon. Because the main, because he plays like just some, was he a rock star in a bar? I don't know if you'd call him a rock star.
He was just kind of like some local guy in a band that was hanging out in a bar. How would you describe his accent, other than bad? Um. A guy who is really trying to be British but sounding Australian and just not really doing really good. Let's put it this way.
My kid has a better British accent, although she watches a lot of BBC, but she can do a better British accent than. Maybe it's a certain dialect of Britain that we don't know about. Where was Corey from? I don't know. Canadian.
Yeah, he's Canadian. Yeah, that's right. Which is not at all British. We're in Canada, right? But yeah, theirs is more Frenchy than British.
But yeah, I mean, I guess it had to do with a writer who... I can't even. Christy's wrap-up of movies she didn't watch. It had to do with a writer. Tiffany Shepis was in it.
Shepis. Ah, Shepis. It did not star her boobs, so... We'll never know. How do you make a movie without her getting touched?
Unless it was one of the scenes I skipped through. I mean, I just fast-forward. Like, all right, not Corey, not Corey. Let's just... Okay.
It took 15, 20 minutes to get through the whole thing. Then we just sat and watched X-Files for the rest of the night. I think I fell asleep. Yeah. While I was sitting there cursing, it's a piece of shit.
Other than, what else did we try to watch that was really bad? That was like, oh, why did we watch this? You didn't like the movie that had, shit. We did not do our research on that one. The one guy that I like that was in that one movie.
Jay's wrap up of the movie's name completely escapes me right now. I can't think of any of the damn movies he's been in. Do we have something to go on here? No, nothing. It's the plot of this movie.
Zombies. England. What was that motion? Shaun of the Dead. Shaun of the Dead.
Oh, okay. Damn it. I love that movie. What are you talking about? I like Shaun of the Dead.
No, he was in that other movie that we watched. That you didn't like. I hated that movie. I liked it. Which one?
I liked that movie. Oh, fuck. What's that movie? It's like one of the. Simon Pegg was in this movie.
Was it The Fear of. Absolute Fear of Everything? Something like that. Oh, my God. It's on Netflix.
Watch it now. Did we watch it now? Yes, we watched it now. And it was absolutely horrible. I liked it.
It didn't have zombies in it. I don't care. I still liked it. He's a writer, too. He plays a writer in that movie.
And then he's doing research on serial killers. He starts getting more paranoid, like they're after him. Yeah. But it is somewhat serious for Simon bay it's it's serious it's about a guy with it's serious but funny um i think the rate the main reason misty doesn't like it is because a good majority of the film he spends his time in his tidy whities that. Aren't exactly white or white yeah they are dingy and baggy and that is not.
Cool he's running around completely scared of everything I think the main part of the movie is him trying to make it to the laundromat because he has this phobia of laundromats. Because when he was a child, he was abandoned in a laundromat. It's such a strange film. I enjoyed it. Misty hated it.
I enjoyed it. Yeah, but you're weird. I am. I'm looking. I spend a lot of my time with people that have strange phobias of a lot of weird things, but I will tell.
You the name of this movie in just a second. While she's looking it up on her phone. He had stupid hair, too. It was just messed up. It was floppy.
It was messed up. Because he was crazy. He was crazy. A fantastic fear of everything. There you go.
Hmm. But yes, he's afraid of the laundromat, and apparently with good reason, because that's where the bad things happen. There is apparently a serial killer going on about. Yeah. At the same time that he's afraid of things.
I forgot what it was called. Is this in England? It's in England. Okay. Yeah.
And it's from 2012. Yeah. But it was just recently added to Netflix. It's funny because as a writer, he's wanting to get into more serious stuff, but apparently he's really good at writing children's stories. Even in the picture on Netflix, you can see his title.
But he doesn't want to write children's stories. He wants to write other stories. He wants to write stories about serial killers. I can see the synopsis. It's on the internet.
The synopsis? In the IMDb, a crime novelist whose research on Victorian serial killers has turned him into a paranoid... I can't even talk. Paranoid wreck must confront his worst fears when a film executive takes a sudden interest in his movie script. There you go.
Hmm. You know, it's one of those you'll either hate it or you'll like it. She hated it. I liked it. There was another movie I watched by myself.
We can go on to that one. Okay, which one is that? I watched Dreamcatcher again. I think I have a copy of that, and I still haven't watched it yet. I guess you did watch it by yourself.
Yes, because you had none to do with that movie. You were like, fuck this movie and left. I think that was all of America. What was that movie? Where was that?
You stayed long enough to see a little bit of Jason Lee, and then you were like, oh, he. Just walked off. Yeah, he wasn't skateboarding, so. It was pre-Mustache, so at least he had that going for him. Oh, yeah, I kind of remember that.
Isn't it a Stephen King story? Yes. Yeah, okay. And then there was Aliens. I wasn't in the mood for it.
Aliens. I love it. And again, like I said, I think there's a copy that I've ended up with at some point. I still haven't watched it. I thought we watched it at some point a long time ago.
I don't remember. I probably just went to sleep. I want to go back and watch it again because I do love me some Timothy Olyphant. And he's in it. And I'm like, oh, I can do this.
I can do this. Give this movie another chance. That's a long time for him. That's an old movie. Because it had him.
For normal people, anyway. So it had him, Thomas Jane, Jason Lee, that one right-handed guy whose name I don't fucking need to know because he's a ginger. And who else was it? Wahlberg. Mark Wahlberg?
Donnie. Donnie? The original acting Wahlberg. Yeah, he was Duddits. Duddits.
He's good at playing people that ain't quite right in the head. He actually is. He's really good. Even on the weird cop show that he's on now, he's pretty good at it. And he got a chick that used to be hot 20 years ago.
She's so weird. He's going to marry, what's her face? Jenny McCarthy. Really? Yeah.
You look concerned for a second. You should be. I don't know. I like Jenny McCarthy for like a second. He claims that he never saw her naked before they started dating.
Get the fuck out of here. Somebody punch him in the throat. He's an idiot. I'm like, come on now. We've all seen her.
Yeah. I never saw her naked. What a stupid ass. I think I might buy that shit. You should never touch yourself either.
Jerk. Back in the day, he didn't need to. He had all those screaming girls. He was always the least attractive member. That's even bad.
He was the one from the streets with a Z. He was less attractive than Doc. Did you know Mario Lopez? Yes. The non.
The most non-street person they're ever on. Yeah. Yo. He's so dorky. No, you're not.
Go away. He's on the most mainstream stuff now. It's so funny. Just like, you need something boring and watered down? Add Mario Lopez.
We've got to give it some street creds with the Z. What ever happened to Mark Paul Gosselaar? I just said his name wrong. I don't even care. He had that show a season or two ago.
No surprise. I think it got canceled. I'm so mad today. I learned they canceled Suburgatory. It's one of my favorite shows.
I did like that one. Mostly because she's awesome. She is. I adore her. Suck and Blow.
He's alright. He's okay. I still refer to him as Suck and Blow. Me too. And then Boyfriend looks at me like I'm retarded.
And I'm like, but Suck and Blow. He was Jesus. And one. That one Jesus movie. I'm sure people that were in the blockbuster that I was in that day probably appreciated that.
Flashbacks to an old episode. We told the story of how you screamed out, second blow is Jesus in the middle of a blockbuster. I did. I ain't ashamed. That would involve me having any shame to begin with.
Did we watch anything else? We watched, we're going back and watching the X-Men series. We just watched X2 last night. Better prepare us for the new X-Men movie coming out. It was pretty awesome.
I'd say the best of the run, really. Up until the new ones, it's arguable first class. But X2 is pretty damn good. I liked it. I still have some questions.
Why all the bad wigs? It wasn't even Halle Berry's bad wig that was bugging me this time. It was... I can't say her name. Famke Janssen.
Yeah, her fucking stupid ass wig. I'm like, seriously? Fampke. Fampke. Whatever.
It's like, she didn't wear a wig in the first one. Did she? I don't remember it being a bad wig, but I haven't watched it in a long time. I don't know. Why did she.
Wear a wig? Because it was a wig, right? Yeah, it looked like a wig. I don't know. I'm like, there's just too many bad wigs.
You're asking me if I thought it was a wig. You had to tell me my mom was wearing a wig. She looked like Erika Strada. She does. She's got an Erika Strada wig.
Of course, you've got to remember Chips. Eric Estrada, the chip cheers. My mom's hair looks like that. Does she also wear the mirrored sunglasses? Fabulous.
Only on special occasions. That would be awesome. She pulls you over sometimes. Yeah. Get out of the car.
I'm still, why did she get out of the plane? Jean Grey, back to this movie. His mom? I don't know. At the end of X2, back to where we started from.
She had to lift the plane. She couldn't lift it from inside it? She had to hold back the water. Couldn't do that from five feet inside the plane? She had to block the teleporting guy from teleporting.
He wouldn't need to teleport if she was on a fucking plane. I don't know. She had to die. Remember we had this discussion last night. She had to die in order to become Phoenix.
She had to die and be reborn. Everyone would be angry when they mess up the Phoenix series. You had to have some kind of heartbreak for Wolverine and Cyclops. I read that. The The guy playing Cyclops, James Marston, had to wear 4-inch lifts for that movie because he was too short.
You're welcome, people. He was too short. Did I bring him back, Marston, for the new Time Warping movie? He died, didn't he? Yeah, but they're going back in time.
He died. What do you mean he died? Like, real life? He hasn't watched the third. Oh, that's right.
I totally forgot anyway. I haven't seen the third X-Men. Somebody brought that up recently. That was the reason they weren't bringing it back for the new one. I was like, but they are going back in time.
What difference does that make? I guess he's got better projects now. What is it, X-Men 3? The Last Stand? The Last Stand.
God, I never even saw that one. I don't know how that escaped me. You're doing okay. Well, no, I mean, I saw the Wolverines. Just to be a completionist, you could, yeah.
I saw the Wolverines, but I mean, well, all being two. And one of them being the most horrible movie ever. Yeah, that first one was pretty awful. Yeah. Well, the only thing I've seen lately, but I thought you said you'd seen it, so I was going to see what your take on it was, because I don't think we went into it last time I talked to you.
I did just watch Nights of Bad Astem. I liked it. The end was wonky as fuck. Well, see, that's the thing. Yeah, I liked it too.
I really, really, really liked it. Then I got to the end. I'm like, this is just, what? This is just silly. I mean, I loved that movie.
It was hilarious. Which part of the end? Like the battle part of the end? Spoiler alert. Okay, spoiler alert.
The hymn, singing to beat the guy, that's just retarded. That was the whole plot of the movie. Yeah, it is kind of funny. It's funny. But it's silly.
I just sat there the whole time going, how did Jack Black not get signed on? Like, he feels like he's doing Jack Black the entire scene. Yeah, it's like he already has a game that's pretty much like that. Why not? Yeah, but other than that, like, I really...
Maybe they couldn't get Jack Black. Well, probably not. At that point, it's He might have wanted too much money. I mean, it was pretty low budget. It was amazing.
Like, I think they called in most of the favors to get that cast, because that's the thing. I really liked everybody in the cast, and they all did a good job, but. I like Summer Glow. I just don't see how she's getting hot chick roles. I'm sorry, but she's weird looking.
I mean, I like her, but she's weird. She's badass. She is badass. She always gets the badass chick kind of. What was her ass rating again?
I don't remember. Plus three. Yeah, plus three. But she disagrees. Underestimating or whatever.
But, yeah, her face. She's... Although, what's the true blood dude? I can't say his last name right. She's cute.
Ryan Quaton? Quaton. Because I don't... Like, he seems cool enough, but I almost... He actually is good with the rest of the role.
Like, I buy him and their little friendship and all that. Him as the metal singer, though, I'm just like, no. No, no, no. Like, even before you get to the singing, like, just him hanging out in his room, I'm like, he still doesn't seem like a metal dude to me. No, not at all.
Not at all. What throws me is hearing him talk in the real life. Yeah. Because he is, like, so Australian that it's ridiculous. But I never knew that.
I watched True Blood back when it wasn't stupid. And then I watched this, and it seems like I've seen something else. Maybe I haven't. I don't even remember. But, yeah, hearing him talk all.
Australian yeah australian it just throws. Me don't like it well i mean i do know the whole that whole ending i think is what became the big problem because it's and i think i was telling you this last time like they totally screwed over joe lynch yeah and i was surprised his name is still on the movie i thought maybe he would have like alan smithy did or something because he like has distanced himself completely he wouldn't do press for it like They basically took the movie away at one point, completely recut it into their own version, and put it out there with his name still attached. So, I know he wants nothing to do with it. He's still like, I wish at some point in the future I could put my cut together, which I think is actually going to take money to redo special effects.
Will they take out some of the silliness? I mean, what did they do? Just kick him off of it, or what? I think it just... He totally finished shooting it.
He did all the basic stuff. I think it was in the post-production part of it when they started editing, they started doing some of the special effects and stuff that they just took over and went, nope, this is not how we're going to do it. We've got our version of the story we want to do. So I'm trying to decide now where it veers off, because it feels like it's a pretty good setup, and I really like the relationship with all the friends. Probably veers off right at the end.
And then that last battle part of it, I do feel like is weird. I don't know. Also, the whole villain thing all the way through seems kind of... I almost feel like the setup for it and the characters that they build are better than the story that comes out of it. Yeah, it is.
It seems like it almost comes to an abrupt end. It definitely seems like that last... They develop all these characters and it's like, hey, guess what? We're just going to kill them off really quick. Well, and even then, they're just like... okay, we, you know, again, spoiler alert, okay, well, we won.
And then just, like, immediately cuts to the, like, we're going to do a bad animal house, you know, wrap up with some, here's what happened to this guy. It's like, because you didn't shoot anything else? No. They just, like, totally wrap it up and tell you, like, facts that don't really even mean anything? Like, I don't know.
Yeah. The one with Gunther, who was just like, that's what he was like the whole movie. That's not a... It's not an update. It's exactly the same thing we saw the whole movie.
Which one was Gunther again? The big in-character guy. Always in character. It was like he just went on to always be in character. Well, no fucking shit.
That's what he was throughout the whole movie. That's not a change. Yeah. I was very upset, and this is another spoiler alert, that the little guy died. Peter Dinklage.
He is awesome, by the way. I mean, I know everyone in the world knows that now, but, like, I do remember years ago seeing him show up in, like, weird indie movies and be like, that guy's cool. It's amazing that the world has shifted enough now that he gets regular roles. He's going to be in the new X-Men movie. He's on the cover of one of those GQ wannabe magazines.
He's the cover of one of the studly men magazines. I'm like, that's awesome. We've gotten to that point where I'm like, Peter Dinklage is cover boy. That's awesome. I still don't want to watch any Game of Thrones.
You can't sway me to that one. There is... A little guy that runs around in our neighborhood. I've seen him number the gas station. I have too.
And I will make him my friend if I can find him. He's hiding somewhere and I don't know where in the neighborhood. He's hiding with fake Philbin. We haven't seen him for a while either. Yeah, fake Philbin cut off all his hair though.
That's the thing that just really got me. That's not a Philbin move. Well, he cut off his hair and we haven't seen him. Did he leave one big long strand? I don't know.
He's gone into hiding. So maybe to grow his hair back out. Yeah, he realized that was a bad thing. He's like, I've been a terrible thing. We used to see him all the time walking down the road.
Bad weather? Yeah. Weather's been bad. Inclement weather. Everything.
I haven't seen him for a year. If we're doing strange people in your neighborhood, I did just go to the grocery at the street and I did pass by the lady with the voice box. That works at Kroger. We don't know her. Oh, man.
She was in the full, like, you know, apron garb hanging out by the butcher area, but then she was... Oh, yeah, I do know her. You're right. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I know her.
Yeah, I forgot about her. I forgot all about her. I love our Kroger. Yeah, our Kroger's great. We went to him right up the street.
Yeah. I love that Kroger. It's little, and there's lots of weird people that hang out there. I know, and they all want to talk to me. Yeah.
Usually about my purse, or if I'm wearing a shirt. There's the Doctor Who guy. Yeah. Like, that guy's pretty cool. And that's why, if they work there, they're always so friendly.
There's the. The red-headed guy for a ginger. Not bad. He's pretty cool. Not like in a, hey, how's it going kind of way, but he's pretty cool.
I'll let you live, sort of way. Yeah. And then there's the old guy who wants you to dye his hair. Like, just like mine? Yeah.
Can't remember his name. He lives right around the street from us. He lives around the corner. It's funny, because most of the people that work at the Kroger live in our neighborhood. And so, I see them either walking to work or...
When I'm riding my bike through the neighborhood and stuff like that, I'll see him sitting out on their porch, which is kind of nice. He veered away from whatever we were talking about. Peter Dinklage. Yeah. Little people.
He is awesome. Yes. But yeah, I liked his character in the movie. I liked most of the characters in the movie. Yeah.
Even Steve Zahn. He's pretty terrible. Oh, I like Steve Zahn. I go back and forth. He's always this...
A spaz. He's always a spaz. He's always a spaz. But he's always the guy that you need to get for your spazoid friend. But I can't think of anything Steve Zahn's been in that I don't like.
Sahara. What? Sahara. Is it Sahara? That's true.
Nobody likes Sahara. I've never seen that movie. It had Matthew McConaughey in it and. Was it another? Penelope Cruz in that one or some chick?
I don't know. Not Kate Hudson? I thought he was, like, contractually obligated. I don't know. I haven't seen Kate Hudson.
I'd probably still like him in that movie if I did see it. He's one of those, like, I used to be annoyed by him because he just did that, and then he did get a few roles that I'm like, okay, he's for a minute and he's not being a total spaz. Like, he can act. Reality Bites. I ain't gonna lie.
Reality Bites, he's not his normal character at all. Like, he's actually doing a good job being an entirely different character. Reality Bites. The flag. The flag.
I was waiting for you to do it, boyfriend. Every time we talk about Steve's on or Reality Bites, you didn't even do your voice. I'm not going to do it. Come on. People don't know.
What do you mean? People don't know. What do you mean? The flag voice. Come on.
I can't do it. I'm laughing too much. I won't look at you. Okay, fine. Well, it's not a threat.
I'm not saying you could do it if I don't look at you that way. No, I don't want to do it. I'm not a fucking seal. I can't just do things on command. What is that, seals?
Really, that's where you're going with that one? Seals? Yeah, you tell them to balance a ball on their nose and honk a horn. And sing a song for the Batman soundtrack. Yeah, that too.
Oh, God. We should get out on that. All right, we're going to go watch our movie all the week, and we'll see if we can survive, and we'll come back. Yeah. You'll leave them with a song from Seal.
Bust on out. Bust on out. What was that? Oh, the kiss from a rose. Kiss from a rose on the.
Yeah. I used to think that. Was a band name, Seal. Nope. That first album was badass.
Huh? Crazy was badass. That sounds like everything. Like, Killer was badass. Like, that first album was pretty good.
All I know is Crazy. What? Crazy. Crazy about what? Seals.
We should go watch the movie. I just said I'm Dr. Pepper. And I'm being a little loopy. Not Dr.
Pepper. Dr. Pepper. Alright, let's go. Want some music for your ears?

We're serious about music. In everything I do That's the one. Wonderfest is coming up, and we will soon be in the middle of it, I'm assuming, as we usually are, with recording awesome episodes like we do. So you should plan to head over there now just for that reason alone, but I thought we would let you guys tell people what you have in store for us this year. What do we have in store, both?
I was going to say, there's a lot of actually tech guys this year that are coming for our 25th, just because the 25th is going to be kind of like a family show in the sense that we at Wonderfest. Are a family. Kind of a homecoming for a lot of people from way back. We've got Carol Baumann. We haven't had her in, what, six, seven years?
A long time. It's been a while. Bringing back Rick Sternbach as well, and of course John Eves has become sort of the yearly tradition coming in, just because the man stays busy. Most of these people are special effects people or designers or makeup. Drexler is an interesting character because he started out with makeup.
He started out with makeup, and then he got into shipbuilding and pretty much everything. It's like he's sort of a renaissance man when it comes to working people. within the industry. And I guess that's almost what you have to do nowadays. It's just, you got to stay multi-talented that way. If you run out of opportunities with one aspect of your job, you just hop onto a different one.
Ken Palcos coming back was a major prop builder these days for big movies. He just did Godzilla. He did three or four other major pictures this year. And, uh, I was just talking to him the other day, and like I said, one of the most interesting things about what he does is that it's one of the only facets that's. Not threatened by CG these days.
An actor still has to have something to hold, and he's a very good craftsman, so he makes props that are high-functioning. He did the phasers for the last Trek movies. They do that little switch-around deal, and that's real. It really does that. He does a gas canister type thing, which I think he did the oxygen destroyer for the new Godzilla.
It actually does emit Some kind of crazy gas. They don't have to go in and post all this stuff. So he's got job security being created like that. But I guess if they haven't been sold yet, where would they go on the old internets there to find out more about it? Wunderfest.com.
There you go. What weekend? It would be May 31st and the 1st. May 31st and the 1st. So much a man can tell you, so much he can say.
You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain. Baby, I can tell you to a kiss. From a rose out of rain. Ooh, the more I get of you, the stranger I feel. Now that your rose is in bloom, the light hits the moon on the rain.
So, before we're officially back, you forgot to complain about Spider-Man. Oh, fuck that movie, dude. I cannot stand... What's his name? Garfield.
Andrew Garfield. Andrew Garfield. I want to punch that guy. Always eating lasagna and shit. I want to punch that guy in the face.
Isn't that him? I don't know, dude. Fates Mondays? Seriously, dude. It's just like...
I mean, I adore Emma Stone. She is awesome. I mean, that's the thing that kills me about this new series is I wish she was in a better version of it. I don't know. I haven't even seen the new one yet.
I don't care about this movie. But you just watched the first one, you said. Yeah, we just watched the first one. He's very twitchy in it. I don't buy him as a Peter Parker.
And granted, you know, I'm not a huge Spider-Man fan. There are a lot of other people out there that are bigger Spider-Man fans. And he just doesn't seem like a Peter Parker to me. See, that was my thing. I.
I bought Tobey Maguire more as Peter Parker than I did this guy. I really thought Tobey Maguire kind of nailed it. That's kind of what I thought, too. We did our whole episode on that first one. It's like, why are they remaking this?
They already made it. What was wrong with Tobey? Did he get old? Is that the problem? Oh, yeah, he did get old.
I mean, I can see that. And I know the real reason why they did it is so they wouldn't lose the license. Because they had to make another Spider-Man movie in a couple of years or it was going to go back to Marvel. And that's why it's not part of that Marvel run that X-Men... Well, no, X-Men isn't either.
But all the other Avengers and all the people and Iron Man and all that stuff is still under the Marvel reign, whereas Sony owns Spider-Man. So that kind of makes me worried is that they're just cranking stuff out for the sake of holding on to properties at this point. Well, that and making video games and selling products and stuff like that. That's kind of what it feels like anyway. Bullshit.
Some of these. But it was a trailer. Some of the animation looks like it's a video game. Yeah, it is. I don't know.
I mean, there was too much crap. It was just chock full of crap. I didn't buy any of it whatsoever. It's like there was a 10-second scene where he's kind of awkward with his powers. Next thing you know, he's fucking fighting.
He's been fighting like this his whole entire life. There's no like, I'm learning. I'm doing this. I'm learning. But that was just like, I automatically know how to do all this stuff.
We've got to have a montage. There was no training montage. You know, there was like a couple things. I know people were probably upset with. The original Spider-Man.
Well, the original Spider-Man. The first Spider-Man where... The Sam Raimi Spider-Man. The Sam Raimi Spider-Man where he's shooting webs out of his hands. In a way, you know, at first when I saw that, I was like, no, he's.
Got web shooters, you know. But it's like... I don't know. I kind of almost like that better. In a way.
I've said that many a time on the show. I like that improvement. I think it made sense. It made sense. It's like, if he's going to have all these other spider powers...
Why would he not have that? Why would he not? I mean, it's better than him shooting webs out of his butt. But this is when they go back to the web shooters, so I don't know. Does that make sense?
I don't remember, and this is just me, okay? I don't remember Peter Parker being a super fucking scientist genius guy. Then again, I didn't read the comic. I've got a few comic books, but I didn't get into it as heavy. I wasn't as big into it as I was the X-Men.
I like the X-Men a lot better. See, I just had somebody, because right before this new part two just came out, I was just having a disagreement with someone because they were just totally bashing the Tobey Maguire version and hated it and thought he was terrible casting. I'm like, what are you talking about their take on it was what little we got into it was just that he told me I was too much of a nerd and that Spider-Man wasn't I'm like Peter Parker was totally a nerd like that was his. Thing yeah he was completely just he was just I was trying to tell Misty Peter Parker was just average yeah he was just he wasn't special he wasn't good really at anything I don't. Think Taking photos.
Taking photos. Did he like to skateboard? But he wasn't even in, you know, I mean, he was just, he was nobody, nobody important. He wasn't, he was, he was a man of, or a kid of just nothing. He was just nobody, he was so much to the point that people just like ignored him.
Yeah. He was just wallpaper. There was nothing special about him. That's what I think she was saying was like they were, that Spider-Man is, you know, he's a smart ass and he likes to give people shit. And I'm like, yeah, he did that as Spider-Man.
Like that was his alter ego was that he's super boring and mild mannered in his real life. But when he gets in the suit, it kind of like turns that on in him. Yeah. He has that power and he has that confidence to mess with people. Power to be super obnoxious.
Oh my God. Now we're talking about the other one. Cause that's the thing. I felt like he did have a little of that in, in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man series. And like he, it, You still feel like he turns into that Spider-Man that you used to read in the comic books.
Yeah. That you saw in the animated ones. He was a smartass when he's in the costume. When he's in the costume. And this other guy, he's just a smartass all the time.
Yeah. Which is why, I don't know. And he doesn't get picked on that much. Because he's. like six foot tall and he's, according to them, super hot. I think a good foot and a half of that is his hair.
Well, probably. I think he's weird looking, truthfully. I think it was better, like, you know, like we were talking about, I think it was better as Tobey Maguire because he seemed like this just dork that got picked on, you know, and the new one just seems like he doesn't, he's not that bad looking of a guy. Yes, he is. To today's standards of what.
Today's standards suck. Girls like... He's weird looking. He's weird looking. He's got the hair.
And he's got that look. He doesn't look like a complete pimply-faced dork. He looks like he would probably do just fine in high school. Just fine without superpowers. He would be just fine in school, aside from them sticking him in a role and saying, look, people don't like him.
I don't buy it. I don't buy it. That guy in general just seems like a dick. In the real world, which I think I've covered on a recent episode. I just don't like him in the real world.
So it's really hard for me to have any other feelings for him. Is he a dick in the real world? Oh, Lord. Yes. Oh, really?
We'll go back into that in a minute. Since I just told these stories. But yeah, I guess to come back to that point, which was funny, was this was right before that I was having the whole disagreement about the new Spider-Man versus the old one. And she was totally on board with the amazing Spider-Man first movie. And then that was like right before going to see the second one.
Came back this past week after having seen the second one and said it sucked. So I was like, even the person that was totally on board and enjoyed the movie didn't like what they did with the second one. So I'm like, that's trouble. Because I already didn't really like the first one. And I already know the spoiler for the new movie.
Because I'm like, I don't actually want to see this movie, but I want to know what happens. She wants to spoil it. You want to spoil it for yourself. No, I spoiled it for boyfriend. So I'm like, guess what happens in the movie.
I don't care. I did. I totally told them what happened. I don't think I care. There's other things in my life going on that are more important than Spider-Man.
I mean, technically, if you know the series and the kind of thing. But not everybody does. And she's the only part of the movie worth watching. Yeah. I'm just kind of like, eh.
I like her better now that I know she's a natural blonde and not a soulless gender. She is naturally a blonde. They talked her into dyeing her hair red for whatever, like Superbad or Zombieland, whichever came first. I don't know. She's kind of always had it in most of her roles.
But yeah, she's naturally blonde. Interesting. I think I knew that already, but I kind of forget it every time. Tell everybody. Make everybody know that you're blonde.
I'm not a big fan of blondes normally, but I like her. Nothing against blondes, because I know some of you are going to get their little feelings hurt. Nothing against blondes. Many's the time if you pissed off somebody with a hair color. We're running out of people with hair colors, so I don't.
Know what to do. But I do have a thing for Amber Heard. She's definitely blonde, so maybe I don't hate blondes. I don't know. I like Amber Heard a little bit less than I did with Johnny Depp.
Blonde hair. I said you had blonde hair. For a long time ago. Amber Heard's hotness has definitely gone downhill since she's hooked up with him. Her taste is questionable, man.
Who did she hook up with? Johnny Depp. old johnny depp oh yeah he'd go back like 30 years. Yeah like 20 ish johnny depp it's pretty damn hot but now he's just a crazy old man now he's just weird he's a hobo he is. Yeah so is it cookie time yet it's cookie time we're gonna take a break for cookies. Farm fresh eggs golden brown sugar creamery butter with these natural ingredients wouldn't it be foolish to use imitation chocolate flavored chips in my toll house cookies You see, the only way to make genuine Toll House cookies is with Nestle's semi-sweet real chocolate morsels.
Nestle's real chocolate makes them rich and chewy and chocolatey. Real chocolate. That's what makes Nestle's Toll House cookies taste so special. And so chocolatey. He was the wizard of a thousand kings.
And I chanced to meet him one night warm. So as I said, we've been to the Chicago Wizard World before, so they've got quite a few. They've got a lot. They're all over the country. That's what I was going to say.
Since they're inviting us to hang around here, I thought we would go ahead and give the rundown. That's the difference with this one, is it's not just in one city. So it's like anywhere in this general part of the country, you know, the United States. Are you stopping at Richmond because we've got more to go? Oh, there's plenty.
That's what I'm saying. Nashville, Austin, Ohio. I thought it was just Ohio. It was just generalized. You know, that state.
But anyway, yes, you can go to wizardworld.com and find out where the next show will. Be near you. You should definitely go. Come hang out. That's what we're doing.

Ladies. My name is Odd Thomas. I'm not a celebrity. I'm not the child of a celebrity. I've never been married to, abused by, or provided a kidney to a celebrity.
But I do lead an unusual life. Knock, knock. Loop me in, Odd One. This place looks like some kind of shrine. Did you check the refrigerator for any severed heads?
That is Stormy Llewellyn. Stormy and I are destined to be together forever. That must be for you. I found a gateway to hell. Get out of there, Audie.
Been communing with the dead? It's not about who's dead, sir. It's about who soon might be. You have a secret. You're either a clairvoyant, a psychic, or you got yourself some juice with a higher power.
I'm here looking for a guy. A creepy guy. Any of those bodage things around? Bodex. When they do show up, it's a sure sign that Carnage and Bloodshed are not far behind.
If they find out you can see them, they will kill you. I'm just so scared for you, Adi. A lot of people died in that dream of yours, huh, Hod? Yeah, they did. Your dreams ever come true?
This town is in serious trouble. I want an APB put out on this guy now! August 15th. Trust me, that is the day that Pico Mundo will never forget. Ah!
Was a song now i'm on my own went through every word and i've got myself to show and trials and tribulations seem to always track me down look up into the sunset and try me another. Oh, yes, and I'd so. I'd walk inside once, because that's the only way I know. And I'd so. Oh, yes, and I'd so.
Watch for who you know. Care for what you try. All right, we are back. We've loaded up on our cookies. Hell yeah, we did.
Cookies and milk. Oh, fucking A. Hardcore. I'm so fat with cookies right now. And milk.
Reduced fat. 2% lactose free. You guys should have an interactive podcast and also have cookies and milk while you listen to us. Yeah. The gooey ones.
They were massively gooey. You couldn't even pick them up. Cookies with a spoon. Hell yeah, yeah. That's not even including the raw ones we ate first.
We're going to die. I didn't eat raw cookie dough. I know better. It's good for you. It lifts up your resistance to other.
Raw cookie dough? Yes. It must, though, because I'm still alive. I've decided lately that's the only reason I'm still around. I eat so much crap.
It's just built up my immune system. It's kind of the way I feel about things. You know, people get sick all the time. Because they don't eat raw cookie dough. I know plenty of people who do.
And a lot of times they're very healthy living people. And I'm like, I eat crap. I pick stuff up off the floor at work and eat it. And that's messy. I'm like, look at the stuff I'm eating.
And when am I ever? When's the last time I didn't show up for work because I was sick? Never. So it's like... Well, you do the math there.
Most of the time when I'm sick from work, it's usually just an excuse. Because you don't want to go to work. I don't feel like, I'm not feeling very good right now. I think that's different. And, yeah, you got to throw in a couple fake coughs there.
Okay, Ferris, you can stay home from school today. It never fails whenever I call in sick, I get sick. It's like cosmic payback. It happens all the time. I call in and pretend to be sick.
The next day, I'm fucking dying. It's not awesome. All right, should we get to the next one? We probably should. This week's Sofa Theater feature is Odd Thomas.
The year is 2013. The director, Stephen Sommers. And the plot, according to IMDb, is... In a California desert town, a short order cook with clairvoyant abilities encounters a mysterious man with a link to dark, threatening forces. Spoiler alert.
We will totally. Ruin all of this. Hell yeah, we will. Feel free to go watch it. In fact, if you're listening to this in the near future, it's streaming online on one of those services you probably already pay for anyway.
Alright, so... Where would you like to begin with? First of all, I had to figure out what it was. I knew it was based on something, but I'd already forgotten where it came from. So the whole time I'm like, is this a comic book?
Because it kind of feels like a comic book. So does that mean Dean Kuntz writes things kind of like comic books? I've only read like one that I remember. Of Dean Kuntz. What, Intensity?
I don't know, but it had something to do with bats. And I think a girl's vagina. I'm not really sure they might. What? Now I need to see this.
What kind of movie is this? That was a book. It was one of the books. It might have been one. No, it wasn't one.
No, that wasn't that one. I don't know. All I know is. He wrote Watchers, too, which I loved that movie because it had Corey Heyman. And the sequel had Mark Singer in it.
And I loved them both. Your two favorite peoples. They are. Not even sarcastically. I really do love them.
All I know is Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms. Yeah, I do remember that one. I told boyfriend I wanted to watch it again. He's like, what? Why?
I know, that's what everyone said. The first time around. Which movie is that? It's got Rose McGowan in it. Right yeah it's one of those at the time i remember being sort of entertaining in a mess at the same time so i i'll watch it if i would.
Go back and rewatch it when she was hot yeah it was young it. Was like before she fucked her face up yeah i don't know what that's it was just after scream rose mcgowan so that's yeah that's. All but she had dark hair though it wasn't like blonde scream hair wasn't it but anyways odd thomas i liked i've not read the book i've I read a lot of reviews online from people that had read the book and they actually did like the movie, which I was kind of surprised. That's unusual. Because usually people are.
Very rabid about their, you know, I'm the same way. I read a book. If it doesn't follow at least to a certain degree or to my liking, I get pissed. See, I don't do that at all. Yeah, but you're weird.
You don't read books. Well, first of all, I don't read books because I don't know how to read. But more importantly, I've gotten to a point where I've not only separated them and gotten very annoyed by people that want to make them the same thing, but like, It needs to be separated for very specific reasons. They're totally different mediums. I don't know.
I feel like I get into this argument on a daily basis with people. Which is why we're not going to get into that argument. We're just going to talk about the movie. I was just calling to attention that people that have read the book still like the movie and enjoy the movie and didn't seem to have that many complaints about the movie. I...
I kind of want to read the book, but I kind of like the movie the way it is. I don't think it'll spoil it for you. I'll know how it ends. I read Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade before the movie came out. Was it a novelization?
No, it was before the movie came out. I mean, was it one of those movies turned into a book? No, it was the book. Because a lot of those they would put out before the movie. They wrote the book.
I had the book before the movie came out. Yeah. Because I was really excited about the movie, and so the book had come out. And that's what I read on the flight from here to Thailand. And I loved the book.
And the movie came out, and I loved the movie too. there were certain things that, you know, I was like kind of let down on in the movie because when I read the book, my, my mind, I had this, the imagination is so great. I mean, it just, the, the movie could not compare with what my imagination had set up for it with this book, but I still liked the movie. So, I mean, I, I mean, I can read a book and then watch the movie and be able to separate the two, you. Know, Now comic books, that's a different thing. That's a different thing.
Comic books, different thing. You fuck with the comics and you screwed yourself. I think there's a dividing line with any of these. I think you have to. We're not arguing about this.
But no, you have to. Well, in general, like even this movie as well. It's like you have to kind of figure out what you're trying to do with the movie you're trying to make. Like you can't. make it word for word. You've only got so much time.
You've got to cram it into this hour and a half usually. So it's like you've got to figure out how to do the best movie you can based on the source material. I understand that there was a lot of stuff that had to get left out because the book's like 350, 400 pages long. So there is stuff that was in the book that didn't make it in the movie like in the book I think Elvis's ghost hangs out with him like he hangs out with him all. The time it's not just the cardboard stand yeah and in.
The book I think Oz is it Oz Ozzy whatever his best friend like Oz is like in the movie the whole time like the. Guy who made the necklace you mean in the book the whole time yeah in the. Book the whole time yeah the guy who made the necklace for him that's his best friend. In the book yeah because he's not really in the movie that much at. All no that's you know there's one thing that people were saying that you know In the book, you know, that guy is his best friend, which you don't really get that in the movie.
You get it kind of like maybe like an associate, but you know, there's stuff that they had to sacrifice in order to make it fit with the rest of the story. There was a lot of other story going on in there. Because to me, that's an art form, is like somebody who can take this big massive thing and actually make it work as a movie. Like, I don't think people get enough credit for doing that. They just want to go the other way and bitch about the fact you left this out or you changed this.
I'm like, but when they do it, that's an amazing thing. Yeah, they've got to be able to make things make sense. That's something I feel like people don't give enough credit for when they do it right or realize how almost impossible. I can't imagine trying to do that. So, I don't know.
Anytime somebody can do that, even somewhat successfully, or create their own thing out of somebody else's property, that's always impressive, I feel like. Because the same guy who directed this also did the screenplay for it, so I think he took this on and did a lot with it. Like I said, I haven't read the book, so I'm sure if anybody out there is going to disagree with me, they probably will because most people do. But I think they did a good job. I like the way that it all turned out.
I thought that if they tried to add more of what was in the book, it might have... Because there was so much going on in this movie, it seemed like to me. There was just so much in the movie, you know. I loved the characters. I adored Stormy.
I did. I don't even care. I had a crush on her. She was so quirky. Stormy's a weird...
She's the weird part in it for me. You didn't like Stormy? I agree with him. She's adorable. She just feels like, and again, I don't know if this is writing or if part of it is the performance.
She feels like she's almost in a different movie. Like her interactions with everybody, basically, but specifically her and Odd are like almost, because again, the whole thing almost feels like it's a comic book anyway. She feels like she's in a different comic book. She's in like Love and Rockets and he's trying to make like a supernatural superhero movie or something. I don't know.
Hers is just... It's almost just delivery. It's the way that she delivers the lines feels like it's an Archie comic. The way that she's firing off these lines is just kind of a different timing and meter than everything else that's going on in the more serious action-y stuff. She's calling him Pooh Bear.
But I like her. That's the thing. It's a weird mix. It seems like I would not like that at all, but I still like her and I like the relationship and where it ends up going at the end, but it's just weird. Like, I never could make peace with what it was.
It's like, she feels like a very different part of the story the whole way through. I don't know. Now listen to me, odd one. I don't want you going back to that creepy room again. It doesn't exist anymore.
Well, don't go looking for it, hoping it'll come back. Never crossed my mind. Yes, it did. Yes, it did. It is a gate to the underworld, and you are forbidden by me to ever play in it again.
It's hard enough living with the guy who helps dead people without having to trek all the way down to hell to pull his ass out of the fire. Since when are we living together? We will be. Oh, I guess I didn't think let's put a pin in. It meant yes.
You have to learn to listen with more than just your ears. What body part am I supposed to listen with? Right, my heart. I'm supposed to listen with my heart. In my head, I kept trying to think she was another actress.
In my head, she was Emanuel Chikri. She looks familiar, and I can't figure out why. So maybe I better look up why. I don't recognize her from anything, but she looks like the other chick from Wrong Turn to me. The not douche goo chick.
The not douche goo. You know who I'm talking about. I know who douche goo is. Not the douche goo. Goo But you know I showed you a picture And I'm like This is.
Who she looks like Yeah I know And at. Some of the angles She does kind of look like. Her I know I'm trying to figure out What else she's in now But I might actually Recognize her from I haven't seen stand up. Guys California Cation. I don't want to think about that Because that just means She's hooking up with the company Because everybody on that show hooks up with Dakota.
The Ducinovi? She ain't done that much stuff, you know. Weird. Maybe that's why. She just looks like another actress or several other actresses, possibly.
Look up Emanuel Chickery and that's who she looks like to me. It's a little bit of another tab or something. Yeah, yeah. Pretty damn close. So to me, I'm like, that's the chick from Wrong Turn.
I know it is. Ah, damn, it's not. Maybe she's like a half-sister and they don't know about each other. Breaking news. She's a clone.
You heard it here first. It might be that whole Natalie Portman, you're a Keira Knightley thing. And I really, back to the movie, I really adore New Chekhov. I can't remember his real name. Anton Yelchin.
Anton Yelchin. I liked him a whole lot better in this than I did in Fright Night. I liked him in Fright Night. I hated Fright Night. See, that's the thing.
I'm in the minority, I'm assuming, because I actually liked that Fright Night movie. It doesn't compare to the other one, but it's... Again, that's one of those, and I've gotten very different on remakes these days. I don't just throw them all out. I like What's-His-Name.
Which one? Oh, Fright Night. Colin Farrell. But again, he's playing a douche, so it's okay for him to be a douche in the real world. Colin Farrell was more tolerable in that movie than Evil Ed.
I fucking hate that guy. Yeah. Again. I hate that guy. I mean, Evil Ed's annoying in there.
I hate that guy in general. In every movie he does, I hate him. Yeah, he's kind of annoying. Like in the kick-ass movies, hated him. Hate him.
But yeah, I love. He's got that face you want to just punch. And Tom. And Tom. He is awesome.
And again, I thought he did a good job in Fright Night, so it's funny to watch him doing kind of... He just sort of shifts the... It's not vampires, it's ghosts. He's still sort of making these weird, like, supernatural sort of actions. And who else did I love in this movie?
Everybody knows. Willem dafoe will do anything and i love and i'm not well that's the thing i'm watching this and i'm just like how did he end up in this movie like they're working with a pretty limited budget it feels like and i'm just like maybe he likes the story i was like how do you just get i mean like he ends up and i'm not trying to make a specific reference to this movie he ends up in some odd titles and i'm just like there's so many times when i'll be like wait and willem dafoe is in this too like he just I don't know how he picks and chooses his stuff. Because he'll be in, like, big blockbusters at some point. And then, yeah, he'll end up in... This seems like a pretty low-budget movie to me.
And, like, somehow they convinced Willem Dafoe he needed to be in it. Roulette wheel. Might be it. He's pretty damn fun in it. I like him.
I would watch Willem Dafoe in probably just about anything. I would. I would. I adore him. He's always fun.
Sometimes he's super committed and, like, really... You can tell he's just, like, killing himself to make this movie. And then other times it just seems like he shows up and they probably give him. A nice check. He seems like he had fun with this one.
Yeah. But he didn't, like, put too much effort into it. Well, he didn't have much to do, really. Especially halfway into the movie. He yells a lot.
He sort of disappears. But, I mean. He probably had another movie to go shoot. They were just like, how about if we get you shot or something? That's cool.
Yeah. I liked it, though. I mean, I liked. And I got it. This is one of the, like.
I don't know if I should get towards the end or not or just leave it, but this is one of the few movies that everybody gets all, I just got a little sniffly in it. I guess we can come back to that. But I'll say I didn't see that end coming, especially in this kind of movie. See, I didn't see it coming either. I saw it coming.
Of course you did, because that's the way you are. And I was like, boyfriend, guess what? You probably read it on the internet first because you like to spoil things for yourself. Surprisingly enough, I did not. No, she didn't read it on the internet.
And I didn't really know anything about this movie. She was just like, we're going to sit down and watch a movie. And I was like, what's it going to be? And she's like, Odd Thomas. And I was like, okay, whatever.
It sounds like a weird children's movie. All right, let's sit and watch it. I was kind of leery, I'm not going to lie, because it was just a couple days after my decision to watch my fantastic fear of everything. So I was kind of leery. I'm like.
Is this going to be another one of those movies? I still like that movie. I don't like that movie. But anyway, I was kind of sad because I'd heard that originally, because this is a series of books. Yeah.
There was like, I don't know how many books there were in the series. I mean, it feels like it's part of a much, especially the end, they reference it. But even midway in, it feels like this is one of those that you could have. Like, here's another adventure for Odd Thomas. It seems like it could be a whole ongoing series of movies, too.
But I have heard that they're not going to because... Well, because I think it sat on shelves for a while, so I think at the time they could get Anton for a lot less. And now that he's done, I don't know if this was made before the Star Trek movies were made, but it was definitely made before the last one was made. Yeah, definitely the sequel. So now it's like between that, and it seems like there was something else he did that's kind of maybe, I don't know if he did, after Fright Night.
Fright Night and that, and then I know he was in that other crazy relationship-y movie. I can't remember if I've seen him in anything else. I'm sure he has been there. But now they're not going to be able to get him for what they got him for the first time. Again, it doesn't look bad, but this definitely doesn't look like there's millions and millions of dollars thrown at it.
It looks like a pretty reasonable budget. Yeah. As you look at it, it's not. Skimped on anywhere like the sets look real like every the actors look like a professional the special effects look really good like that's where they didn't skimp at all but like i was just looking at the sets i'm like this is not like a multi-million dollar production it's just like a pretty well put together you know mall set that they put you know so i mean it's like it seems like it was a limited budget so it doesn't it doesn't surprise me that now that now that he's going to be going for a lot more i guess it could be worse they could just randomly cast some new person which probably would not be a good. Idea probably not no but yeah i mean the special effects in the bodox that's where that i guess they're like the things that he sees when things bad are going to happen they don't hurt people but they're there when people are hurt they like to feed off the pain and death and all that stuff so those those creatures and those were fucking amazing those were creepy and they were well done and you're not like oh look at that cg monster It's not like a sci-fi original monster or anything.
It actually isn't. For, again, for as limited a budget, it's like that's almost what they started out with. Okay, we have to make these look good, and then we'll work everything. Else around that. So, yeah, they did a really good job on the books.
I really liked those. I thought that they were creepy. I thought that they were effective in being creepy. The opening scene, I still love the opening scene with the girl, the little girl. It's creepy, and it's like, oh, That's what made me decide, all right, we're sticking with this movie.
We're not going to skim through it looking for things. We're just like, we're going to sit, we're going to watch this whole thing, and I'll be damned. It's a damn fine movie. Yeah, it was pretty good. The way it was shot was really good.
Yeah, that's the thing. I was going to see what your thoughts were on it, because it's very specific in the way that it does its weird transitions between scenes, and then it's editing. It will cut really fast from this to that. So I don't know. What were your thoughts on the... edits and the cuts and the weird way that it...
I liked it. It did almost in a way feel comic book-ish. And that's what made me say that. I was like, maybe they're feeding off you know, the fact that it's a comic book, but I'm like, I was like, I don't think so. I was like, I thought it was more of a book.
Well, what about, yeah, it is a book. I'm just wondering about the guy who directed it and the guy, the guy who directed it more than just what, what else has he done? Has he done anything? That's the other thing. Cause the Kate and the name came up at the end.
I'm like, I know that. I'm like, why do I know that? Cause I feel like it's cheesy stuff. Oh yeah. And then I clicked on it a minute ago.
It was just like, oh yeah. Yeah. G.I. Joe, Rise of Cobra, The Mummy movies, Van Helsing, Deep Rising. I was just like, oh.
And then you get Catch Me If You Can. But not that one. Yeah. Yeah, because the Spielberg one's later than that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Which one was the Rise of Cobra? Was that the first or second one? The one we did not watch. Oh, okay, yeah. We watched Retaliation, and it was awesome.
I liked Retaliation. So that's why I had nothing to do with it. Oh, really? Rise of Cobra is not really a good movie. But I never really liked the Mummy movies either.
So I'm just like, I don't... You know, I kind of like the Mummy movies. I'm really embarrassed saying this. I wanted to... But I'll sit and watch them.
Yeah. Um. And I can get into those more than I can Van Helsing. Oh, my good God. We tried to go back and watch Van Helsing.
We watched it in its entirety. We watched it in its entirety and was like, holy shit, this was a bad movie. Why did we watch this again? How did this get made? Exactly.
They put out a lot of shit for that movie, too. They put out Van Helsing toys. They put out video games. I've got the fucking Xbox game. Yeah, that was their big movie of the year.
And the Xbox game was actually kind of fun, you know, but. I got stuck at this one part and then I just turned it off and haven't touched it since. But, you know, it's just, oh, wow, really? Ah, the mummy movies, they're, you know. They're like, okay, you know, like we were talking about Resident Evil.
It's like Resident Evil. You go into it and knowing what it is, you know. Come on. You know it's not going to be an Oscar winner, so I'm not going into it. It's got Brendan Fraser in it.
That's my main problem. You see, you know, I don't like Brendan Fraser. You like it when he claps. I don't want to say that I don't like him he's an okay guy he seems like a nice enough guy in the real world he seems like a nice guy in the real world but I can't be convinced I'm sorry you're still Encino man to me and you will always be Encino man. So I can't picture him as being this kind of swashbuckling guy running around Egypt I mean it's fun I always watch the Mummy movies and go, wow, this would be a great movie if it had somebody else besides.
Brendan Fraser in it. But I can't think of who. Nathan Fillion. That would be a good one. That would be awesome.
Done and done. Let's remake them. They love to remake shit. Let's remake the Mummy. Do it now.
Remake the Mummy. I mean, seriously. Don't you think Nathan Fillion could... I'm murdering his last name, but. I would buy it.
Again, I... Well, and that was part of the problem is like you're also like... I remember seeing that first one and I'm just like, this so hard wants to be an Indiana Jones movie. It does. And it's not.
It's just not written to that level. It's not, it's no offense to Summers, it's not directed to that level. It's just, it's so mediocre and like you throw Brendan Fraser in the middle of it, it hurts. It's so bad. Think about this.
Remember when Indiana Jones came out? Remember all the clones that came out after Indiana Jones? The Alan Quartermains. Alan Quartermains. You had the The Chuck Norris even tried to do it too.
Fire Walker. I own that somewhere. Jewel of the Nile. Those were actually, they were different. Jewel of the Nile was a little bit different, but it was trying to cash in on the same thing.
It definitely was. Gosh, there was another one. What was the other one? The King Solomon's Mine. Was that Alan Corden?
That was Alan Corden. Okay. See, that's another one of those. I wanted to like that. Again, it's feeding off that same general idea that the Indiana Jones thing took off with, but like, No offense to people who love Chamberlain, but, like, I thought he was terrible in that role.
Like, he just so was not the tough guy lead that you needed. Like, I didn't buy him. Sharon Stone was annoying. Like, it's that same thing. So, I don't know.
Again, all of this leading back to, like, I'm surprised how much I liked the direction... Romancing the Stone. That was the other one, too. Still dueling now. Yeah, still dueling now.
But, yeah, how much I liked the direction in Odd Thomas. Like, I was surprised... And maybe it's just because it's got a more likable cast involved. You swim enough times, eventually you're going to hit one. I don't know.
In a way, maybe he just does cheesier directing in all of those, and the other ones just didn't save it. But this one, it just kind of fit. And again, the story itself feels like a weird comic book-y thing, so it works better with this, maybe. I don't know. But to me, this is more entertaining, and it works better. with his weird smash cuts and his weird little animation going from one scene to the other.
And occasionally, he does, like, a legitimately good shot. That big shot that goes around Odd as he's in the middle of the mall at the end is fucking awesome. Like, I just sat there going, that's just a good shot, regardless of, you know, whether or not the rest of it is. See, I like the opening shot, too, where the little girl, like, he looks at the little girl, and then he turns and he runs, and then it shows the little girl, um, I guess at that point, does it show her in her tattered face, like what she looked like when she died? And then it kind of, in the background, it's faded out of him chasing that guy down the street.
You know, I think that's a good shot. I keep feeling like I've seen that one shot before. The one in the mall. Oh, yeah. Standing there circling.
It's familiar. I mean, a lot of them have tried it. I can't think of exactly where I've seen it. I think it's in several movies. But, again, you can't always do it effectively.
No. I think it is in this one. He does a good job with it. I may see dead people, but then, by God, I do something about it. Well, also, again, I was going in, like, by the time he gets to that little intro there.
And you get him, like, because at first you have no idea. Like, if you don't know the book, you just kind of come in and, like, why is he looking at this little girl? And it's, like, it's only then when he, like, starts calling the guy out for murdering her. And then you're, like, okay, so this is, like, if the sixth synth grew up. Yeah.
This is him, like, a few years later, like, now he's going to beat people up and start solving crimes and shit. Well, he starts to explain it, too. At least he's explaining it. And he does a good narration throughout the whole thing. There's a lot of voiceover.
Yeah. Like, way more than most movies that have voiceover. But it didn't bug me. Which, that's what I was going to ask, because it seems like that would be something that normally would piss you off. No, it didn't bug me at all.
So I was, yeah, I was surprised. Well, if he's a likable character. I mean, if you had somebody that you didn't like doing voiceover, you know, like, if you had a movie that had that one guy that you don't like from Kick-Ass doing a complete voiceover in his head. I hate that guy. Then you wouldn't like it.
I can remember that guy's name, but I don't like him. Whatever. But at least this works. I think in this one, yeah, it does. Again, getting pieces from other movies, it at some point reminded me of Fletch.
Maybe because I just kind of went back and watched part of Fletch recently, and I forget how good a movie that first one is. Never seen it. But it's really good. It's a really good movie. But it's him solving a mystery, and there's tons of voiceover.
It's him explaining what he did and what he was thinking. I didn't even think about that. It felt very much like a Fletch mixed with Dylan Dog. I remember you kind of liked that one, too. To me, this seems like that supernatural solving crimes kind of thing.
Did I like it? You liked Dylan Dog. It was one of the few times Brandon Roush isn't obnoxious. His chin still bugs me. He kind of bugs me a lot.
It's too dented. He's... Certain roles I've decided... You're like this friend that was a zombie. Yeah, I did like him.
He was from what else? The. Being Human? Yeah, the American Being Human. Which I hated that show.
I think. I didn't hate it. I only got through the first season. And then I didn't have that channel. Did we watch the British show?
We liked the British one until. I liked the British one. Until the season started. I think a different season started. Yeah.
But yeah. It's like... I was pleasantly surprised. I had never heard anything about this movie. Odd Thomas.
I had never seen a trailer for it. I had never heard of it existing. Me either. I didn't even hear about it. And it popped up on the Netflix Watch It Now.
And I'm like, okay, I like that guy. I want to make Boyfriend watch this because Boyfriend won't make a decision. So Misty's going to make it. Girlfriend doesn't want to watch movies that Boyfriend wants to watch. Well, usually I'm like, Boyfriend, what do you want to watch?
He's like, oh, I don't know. Because I'm trying to save you from movies that you don't want to watch. You're not going to want to watch Where Eagles Dare. You don't know. You have learned things over the years.
You're not going to watch. I probably would have rather watched that than a fantastic fear of everything. You just have to part or run deep, run silent. I can see some of the older ones you're getting into. Depends on if they have a hot guy in them.
If there's a hot enough guy in it, give me some young Clint Eastwood. That was young Clint Eastwood, Eagle's Dare. A lot of Nazis die in that movie. I like when people die. Well, this one, a lot of people.
A lot of dead people wandering around. I know. And it seems like I was picturing in my head, I couldn't help thinking that Tom Waits would have been a better creepy guy, like the fungus guy. Fungus, yeah. It seems like, yeah, it's like we can't really afford Tom Waits, but he would have been really good.
He would have. But he's pretty good at everything. Yeah, he is. Did you ever watch, was it Seven Psychopaths? Not yet.
The rest of that movie is fucking retarded, but Tom Waits and his, was it Bunnies? His Bunnies, yeah. His Bunnies. But anyways, yeah, that guy, the fungus bob in Odd Thomas, seems like it was a role that could have been played better by Tom Waits. But, I mean, this guy wasn't bad.
There wasn't much. Yeah, he was just... He had to look creepy, basically. He was creepy. He just looked slobby.
Yeah. He looked slobby. He looked like a guy I went to school with. But, uh... He's probably still stalking me to this day.
But, yeah, there's a lot going on in this movie. Well, that was one I was going to ask, because, like, I do like... any time a movie, or I guess this comes from the book probably, the fact that it sets up its own world, more or less. And it gives you this system that everything works on, and it gives you almost these set rules of how the character has to, you know, work within this so we get the weird, you know, creatures running around. And he's explaining why, you know, they're attracted to, you know, the horrible suffering that's going to happen. So I don't know.
I kind of like that stuff. So what was, I don't know, what were your thoughts on the whole way that it sets up the system. I liked it, and it worked, and it's like, I don't know, I like the little world where this took place, and it's, I don't know, because it sets it up so nice, and it seems so, I don't know, because it's too perfect. It's a happy little desert town. It is.
It's very happy. Knowing that something that's as bad, because through what he's seen, you know that something bad's coming, but you're like, But no, everything is. So good. The town, they make the town so nice and so likable that you want to go there. You like the diner.
I want to go eat at the diner. He seems like a fantastic cook. I want to see him flip spatulas around and stuff like that. It's very silly at that point. It is silly.
I was surprised how far they took it with the crazy antics of what he was doing. I'm like, this overly done he. Was pushing it when he's like squirting the stuff into the cup i was like that okay that's pretty silly up until then i could see the stuff like the eggs okay if you're good you can do that i've been to enough hibachi grills and i even wanted to be a uh what. Is it a tabernacle chef or a bocce chef But I wasn't Asian enough for this fucking place down in Florida. You fuckers.
And they went the next day and hired this guy. I'll work on that. No, they hired this redheaded guy. And I was like, this is owned by these Korean people. And I was like, I think it's just because they hated me because they knew I was half Thai.
There's something about, I don't know if we got any Korean listeners, but most of the Koreans that I met, they don't like Thais. They don't like Chinese. And now they don't like us. And Japanese and stuff like that. But the other guy's like, no, you're not Asian enough.
And I was like, what about that fucking guy? He's not even Asian. What is he, Irish? Irish, Asian, whatever. He's more Asian than you.
Must be. Fuck. He's Asian on the inside. And so I went to work at a junkyard. But yeah, I like this little town.
They didn't care. You know? But yeah. I like this little town. That's why you're like, I want them to save this town because I want it to be there when I go there.
Yeah. Look at their mall. They've got the, the town is very nice. It's very clean. That town did not seem big enough to have a mall that big.
Maybe it was on the outskirts and it was a tri-county mall. I don't know. No, it seemed very, uh, because it was within, I don't know. Within walking distance of Vegas. Yeah.
No, I don't know. You don't know how long he walked cause he walks everywhere. He doesn't have a car. Remember? Um, The town seemed almost like the town in Back to the Future a little bit, the way things were set up.
I mean, you had the huge town center, the little park area, and then all the little shops were around the outskirts of it and stuff like that. At any point did he run into Mayor Goldie Wilson? No, he didn't. That's a good idea. I can't get that out of your head.
Well, not after sitting next to that. Our last little table shot. I know, I was only there for a couple hours and that drove me up the wall. How many times did I hear Mayor Goldie Wolf? I was like, I got a multi-tool here.
I can just reach back behind this curtain and cut this guy's wires. Okay, on that note, do we want to get to the hot wiring? Every car that he gets in is just conveniently ready for him to hotwire. Who is the lady that he kept going, I'm going to borrow your car. Why wouldn't he have keys?
Why is she okay with him hotwiring? First of all, if he does that often enough that he says, I'm going to borrow your car again, why wouldn't you just have keys made? And why wouldn't she be okay with that versus him busting into her wiring? But at least then it's like, okay, he's done this before, so the wiring's left out so he can get to it. I still don't know why it would just be exposed like that and run, but Okay, whatever.
But like when he gets to the truck at the end or that van. Yeah. Within like a half second, the wires are in his hand. I'm just like, wait a minute. Well, you look down, he didn't even have to pull them out.
No, they were just in his hand. It's not that easy to hotwire. It's just little problems, you know. Just a minor lapse in the, or a leap of faith, if nothing else. My major problem with this movie is I have never seen that many people in a mall, ever.
Not even St. Matthews at Christmas. Especially in a small town. It's pretty packed. That's the only mall they've got, so, you know.
I don't care if it's a one-day special sale. There ain't that many guys here. There's a lot of people. It might have been a really special sale. It said special sale.
Today only. Yeah, today only. Special sale. That was my only problem. It's not going to be that many people at the mall.
Sorry. Unless everybody in Vegas. No, everybody in Vegas is down at the fucking casino. They are not in the mall. That was my biggest complaint.
Well, they weren't in Vegas. But they were right outside of Vegas, so it could have been close enough. They were in a tiny little town. Maybe that day they closed all the casinos. Everybody left and went to the mall.
They had to have a pack for maximum carnage. That wasn't your only problem with it, because you also had a problem with the hole. What are you going to do with the hole? How about you stick your hand in the hole? Yeah, really.
Yeah, you walk into a room where all the animals are dead, and there's this mysterious creepy hole that starts to open in the wall with a strange blue light. What do you do? You shove your fucking fist in it. That's what you do. You fist that motherfucker.
Well, there you go. That's our quote for this. Quote for the episode, right there. You fist that motherfucker. I said it again.
What are you going to do? You fist that motherfucker. Is it going to be either that or you fist that bitch? But I figured, I don't know. Either way, whatever.
Either way, it applies. He definitely fisted it. I mean, he. What are you trying to grab? What's there to grab?
Why are you not going to look. Through the hole? Into another dimension. It's a hole that he had already seen the likes of at the mall. Because when the fucking things disappear, they come out of the ground.
That's right. They look exactly like that. I'm like, you don't see any of this? Yeah, no. You know where this is going to go.
Either those monsters are going to come out and eat your arm, or you'll get sucked into the hell dimension that's opening up there. And get your face eaten off. Neither of these is a good option. Put your fist in the hole. Damn it, Odd.
Pay attention. Maybe he just had one of those momentary lapses of stupidity. He does take a lot of shots to the head before this thing's done. Yeah, he does. He does get shot.
And that, too. In the face. Just barely. He gets smacked around. I will say, I don't know.
By the T2 knockoff? Do what? By the T2 knockoff. Because I thought the same thing. As the cop's running after the car.
Have you seen this boy? As soon as he turned around in the garage, I'm like. Because one of the bodocks or whatever. Yeah, they can possess people. Shh.
And yeah, he does. And then there's this turnaround. I'm like, he looks like the Terminator guy. Because he was wearing the whole outfit on. Even though it's more secure.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But yeah, I didn't like that guy. He was trouble. Trouble from the beginning, I tell you. When I'm with you, I don't have to worry about pancakes, poltergeists.
When I'm with you, I'm with my destiny. Where you live, I flourish. Now what are we going to talk about? The spoiler alert. Spoiler alert.
The end. The end. Dun, dun, dun. The end that I didn't see coming. That Brian didn't see coming.
That only Misty saw coming. Mostly because of the rest of the tone of it. Like, it's so fun and cheery the whole rest of the way through. Actually, I didn't catch it until, like, almost the end scene when they're sitting at the table and eating. And I see that her bowl is empty.
And I'm like. Fuck, she fucking died. Well, see, I did think that when she stood up, like, behind the counter, and she had the ice cream on her, I kept waiting for it to go and pan a little further in, and then, like, she's got this gut shot or something. So I did kind of, like, I was kind of waiting for it at that moment, and then they didn't go there, and I'm like, oh, okay, well, I guess they're keeping it happy. Yeah, that's kind of the way I was, too.
So for the next, you know, few minutes, I was just like, all right, well, they're going to go super traditional, happy ending, and then they'll both go on and make sequels that we know now isn't going to happen, but that's not the way they went at all. I really suspected it when he was in the hospital and she was still wearing the outfit. I'm like, they could have gave her a different shirt by now. She should be wearing something else. And then when she didn't, when they, when they, when him and her did not speak the rest of the movie, I'm like, they made a big point about him saying the ghost didn't talk.
I'm like, they did not converse. I'm like, that's a boyfriend. She ain't talking. She's dead. Yeah.
And that was yeah she ain't saying nothing they ain't talking she's because. They did they were very chatty throughout the whole movie. She never shut up she never shut up and when she wasn't talking i'm like all right they done killed her off and they're just stretching it out yeah. They're they're going for maximum uh heartstring jerkage. And i said i'm not gonna laugh I was teary.
I've watched even the second time. I was like, oh my God, I'm going to cry like a baby. And I ain't cried in a movie since fucking Beaches. I cry when. I have to watch it now, but it's for the other reason.
I can't believe I have to watch Beaches. Stop it, please. When I was like 10, I don't even care. I was crying like a damn baby. Well, it must have been cold there in my channel.
Smart ass but anyways yeah it's hard for movies i'm like you i'm like pretty unaffected i'm like all right all right whatever. I think i'm going the other way i'm getting sappier as the years go i don't remember what it was lately i was just like i was watching it i was getting sucked in i was like really what movie is this like this is the dumbest thing in the world why am i getting suckered. In But the second time when I knew it was coming. I made it worse. I'm like, oh, she's already dead.
I know it. Oh, my God. I was getting teary-eyed. I was trying to hide it, but I couldn't. I'm not crying now.
You're just pretending. It's 1230 at night, and I'm tired. But, yeah, it's... I don't know, I guess because I liked these characters so much, and I liked her, even though, like you said, she didn't seem like she fit, but I kind of liked that about her, because she didn't fit in that. I mean, like I said, it it wasn't such a bad problem that i didn't like her and i didn't like the movie it's just it was weird so again it is one of those like it almost feels like it was something more i kind of would have liked to seen her go on and do more movies with him which that wasn't going to happen anyway but it seems like there could have been something that like ran through is like it almost felt like if you go back and watch like those movies in the 40s And, like, some of them are, like, it was, like, 30s and 40s where you've got the dame that's generally talking fast and, like, she'll do that delivery that's just, like, non-stop and, like, almost doesn't fit with, like, you know, it's these gruff guys that they pair up with and they're getting in fights and stuff.
And, like, I don't know. There's this weird era in that, like, that period there where the female lead almost doesn't fit with, like, the action going on around it. And it almost felt like that. It had that little twinge to it that was almost a very classic Hollywood thing that I would have liked to have seen it happen more. I didn't dislike it so much.
I didn't want to see more of it. I'm just trying to figure it out still. It didn't click 100% and I'm still trying to work on it. But I like her. I don't understand.
It's confusing. And her actual name in the movie was like, was it Brolin? They only mention it like that one time, don't they? Because I thought it was weird too. I'm like, who names their kids Stormy?
Odd, you're already pushing it. Pretend like it was a mix-up, bud. From what I understand, from what I read in the review, she goes by Stormy just because she thinks that the name that her mom gave her, Brolin or whatever, sounds way too much like a Lord of the Rings character or something. So Stormy's back. But it kind of matches her personality.
She's different, you know, and I like that about her. Odd and Stormy. She wears those little shorts. She barely wore those little shorts. Goddamn.
Mm-hmm. See, I don't know that I would have liked any of the girls that they had in the running. Lily Collins' eyebrows bug me. Kat Dennings. It's a different, yeah.
Too old. She can be fun, but she's a different, she's a totally different. I like her in the Thor movies. Yeah, she's like a totally different style. Her boobs were too big.
She would have made a slutty story. And she would have knocked over. She would have knocked over odd. Emma Roberts is good, but again... Kind of different.
I think they got the right girl to play this. It's just different. I can't remember. I might have to go to the Wikipedia page to get her. The only other girl that I could think of that would kind of be on the same level would be the girl from.
Raising Hope. Yeah. Yeah. That's not. Visually, she's pretty close, actually.
She's along the same lines. But her lines are kind of the same. Her delivery on stuff. Her delivery's not far off, yeah. Yeah.
That's not bad. I actually really like her. I wish she hadn't done a ton of other stuff. No. But she's really good on raising up.
Well, apparently in the book, there was a lot more that went on doing with, you know... Apparently, Stormy had more of a backstory. Like, a lot more Broin. That's her name. Broin?
Broin? Broin? B-R-O-N-W-E-N. Brown? Brown?
Brown? He prefers to be called Stormy because she thinks it makes her sound like less of an elf. I do have to say, I like the relationship in general, but I like even more so when it's, like, odd by himself, completely just, like, sappily in love with her, and, like, shamelessly, like, Like, the blonde girl totally hitting on him. He's not even, like, not having it. He's not aware of it.
Like, he's just so in love with her. Not even a blip on his radio. Yeah. I was like, that's kind of, again, I kind of would have liked to see more with the two of them. Maybe they'll just bring those two actors back.
Squeaky, squeaky. Maybe she'll be a ghost and come back and hang out with them. In this movie that they're not going to make. Yeah. From what I understand, even Dean Kuntz approved this movie and was like, yep.
I like it. It's approved. My stuff doesn't usually make money. All right, I'll take this. This came out pretty good.
I do like some of his movies. I'm not even going to lie. You watched Watchers with me. Yes, you did. It had a dog.
There was a dog. Please explain this movie to me again. There was a dog that apparently had been tested in some kind of facility. And then there was a monster that had a telepathic connection to the dog. Did you not watch this?
I know you watched this movie. I do not remember this movie. It had Corey Haim and a dog. I don't remember this movie at all. I watched it.
Anyway, Dean Koontz. Dean Koontz. He wrote a book about a girl with bats and a vagina. Well, one of those is pretty common. There are a lot of bats.
I can't remember the name of the book. But I know what it is. I'm afraid to Google. Bats and a vagina. Oh, wait.
I'll do it. On your computer. Being coots and bats. I will go for coots. Oh, no.
Go the other way. No. Coots and bats. But coots and vagina. No.
Please put that into your search history. Thank you. Bats and vagina. Bats and vagina. I like coots and vagina.
You won't come up with the flying bats either. That is not helpful. Just do images. I made that mistake one time because I was trying to look up some stuff on the 1950s 60s Cafe racer scene And of course those guys were called the Leather Boys You don't image. Search Leather Boys By the time I typed it in And hit enter You hit enter and went oh no Yeah it kind of sent And it went all the way to my brain And my brain processed it It went like this Ah no Okay that's not right Not when I was one.
So you tell people now. Yeah. When it still comes up on your history. Well there, boys, huh? All right.
Good to know. Just keeping the NSA guessing. Oh, man. When I think about what's on mine. Well, because I tell...
All that. Selena Gomez porn is what's on yours. Oh, yeah. But that's a given. That's the real thing I'm actually searching for.
No, what's funny is when I... Because you've seen the stupid posts I do with these. I will list every stupid thing that we say in one big long list. But half the time I'm just typing down the gibberish version of it. And I'll go back and have it in Google and get the right spelling for half the stuff we're saying.
Or the names of people. So by the end it's just that entire list has now been thrown into my Google history. So it's like these entire list of nonsense words that we say. I'm just like. They can't have any concept of what's really going on in my world.
Yeah, they're like, what the fuck is up with this guy? What is, like, red flag? Like, what is wrong with this motherfucker? Fist that bitch. Yeah, I'm like.
Well, that probably is a pretty commonly searched phrase. Yeah. Yeah, I wonder sometimes what's going through the internet as I type in all of this crap. I don't know. I've got somewhere on my computer a list of all the NSA trigger words.
It's a long list. It's probably in every one of our show listings. It's a very long list. But, I mean, it has to click off in a certain... Like if you just said, blah, blah, blah, hijack.
It's not going to pick up as much as if you entered hijack and bomb and something else and something else altogether. How about poop sex? Poop sex. What flag does that sit? Yeah.
No flag. Puh flag. Puh flag. You're still not going to do the wig? No, I'm not.
It might be The Vision is the book I'm thinking of, perhaps. The Vision. The Vision. I'm not really sure, because nobody wants to tell me if there's bats in it. And vaginas.
Image search. Do it. Not gonna. I'm doing ragged on. I'm sure you are.
I don't want to have to read this book again to make sure I'm right. Is there a slight synopsis of the book? They don't specifically say bats with vaginas. Don't half the bats have vaginas? They are mammals, right?
I'm not happy. Neither are the bats with no vaginas. Never mind. I'll find it later and then nobody will care. Anyways, Odd Thomas.
I really liked it. I was pleasantly surprised. I would not recommend Fantastic Fear of Everything because it sucked. But Odd Thomas, I give it. I have two thumbs, so I will give it two thumbs up.
You can't see him at home, but she was holding him up. I was. It's pretty fantastic. Really close to the microphone, so you should be able to hear. I rubbed him on the microphone, but you probably couldn't hear that either.
I snapped to ease my thumb, so there you go. Two snaps up. You're going men on film now. Two snaps, a twist. And a kiss.
Speaking of Leather Boys. All right. So, I think that was my reaction, too. Like, I didn't go in with a bad expectation, but I did kind of go in limited. I told you it was good.
Did you not like this movie? Well, it was before. No, before you even said that. Like, I remember looking at the video box. Yes, in a video store.
And I was just like, oh yeah, this looks, yeah, there's a few of them. I hang out at one. Two. There's a couple in the country. There's a few still going strong.
More power to you guys. But, no, I remember kind of thinking it could go either way. You know, it's like this could be really fun and just sort of flew under the radar, or it could just be a really low-budget train wreck that somehow they suckered Anton into doing. But, no, I think I was surprised at just how... It comes together, the special effects were good, and I think that is the main part of it that ends up making it so likable, is that it keeps a fun tone throughout it.
I think even when you add in the music theme that they use, it's not what you would expect in this kind of movie. It's a very different sound and style. It fits the area, I guess. It fits the place that they are. but not necessarily this tone of movie, and I think that helps it. I think that gives it its own different spin and a different feeling that you get that kind of makes it more fun along the way than if they tried to be super serious with a story that isn't really serious.
I don't know. So I think they realized the kind of movie they were making, and they kept the whole thing fun until you get to the very end, and it's not so fun. But I don't know. I think that's why I ended up liking it the whole way through is it knew it was a fun movie, and it made a fun movie. And it was sad.
And then it became sad. Just to mess with you. Like, abruptly. Just to mess with you. Because it's like, you think, alright, everything's cool, everything's cool.
Oh my god, no. This isn't a happy ending at all. Because even if you suspect it, you're like, alright, maybe not. Because it's like, they trick you. They trick you hard.
Well, and then I thought maybe because they were together forever, so I thought maybe they were going to end up being in that little place forever. Or maybe he'd gotten killed, too, and they really were going to be together. Like, I kind of thought for a second when they showed that she, like, when they came in, and I was like, oh, maybe they're both dead, and this is their, you know, this is their heaven, more or less, is they're going to be together forever, and that's the way they want to spend eternity. But they had seen people interacting with him. Yeah, but I just thought they were going to find some weird way to, like, work around that and make this their together forever scenario, which they really didn't do, so that machine was a total lie.
The hell you say? All the fortunes I've gotten, you're telling me they're not true? Well, what do you mean? Why would they not be together forever? Because now she's gone.
He's got 80 years until he gets back with her. But that doesn't mean that they won't be together forever. I mean, he's going to die. Except for those 80 years. That's a part of one damn time.
That's, you know, 80 years. I'm not saying it's not realistic. 80 years in forever is a tiny, tiny amount. I'm sad and I want to hang out with Stormi more than them. And do you blame them?
I'd want to hang out with her. I'd hang out with Stormi right now. I mean, I like her in theory. But I'm sure that if I had to hang out with her on a regular basis, I'd be like, all right. You need to stop talking so much.
But that's just me, unlike most people. I was kind of okay. Again, I was okay with her. I liked her, but if I had to deal with her in the real world, you know what I mean? I still might be okay with her.
I think it's a hit and miss sort of thing. Some people can take that too far in the real world, but it's almost a case-by-case basis for me. She was still on the good side. Granted, it was only 90 minutes or so, but still, she was still on the good side. But yeah, I mean, like I said, that's the thing that made the movie for me is that I really liked the characters.
You know, because usually in the movie I'm like, I don't like that guy. I don't like that girl. I want them to fucking die. But I'm like, I really like these people. You know, I really liked her and I really liked them together and I really wanted them to have the happy ending.
You know, and then the fact that they trick you into thinking that you're getting the happy ending, even though you're like, Hmm, I don't know. Something's up. She's not eating enough ice cream. She's not eating her cereal. What the hell?
That's my friend Rick posting shit. He's been dead for a year. Why don't you hate when that happens? I don't know. That's a good trick, though.
Why didn't they teach that one to Stormy? Maybe Stormy's still out there posting stuff. I know. But yeah, you know, that's, I don't know. I mean, that's what usually makes the movie for me, whether I like the character.
Because like I said, usually if there's a character that I'm like, alright, I could like this movie, but I really don't like that person. You know, I think if they had cast anybody else in either of the roles, I'd have been like, whatever, dude. You didn't care. I wouldn't have cared, but I really liked them together. Sad.
But I recommend it, so watch it on the television. Or a computer. Or a computer. Or on your phone or your tablet. I really don't care.
Just watch it. I don't recommend those last two. Anything smaller than a computer screen you're pushing your like i. Don't know my tablet's pretty good i guess that's your call it is get. You a big ass fucking 80 inch tv and you watch that shit and you watch it big do it i wish they would do more but i know it's not gonna happen so it's like part of me is kind of glad because would i like them or would i just be disappointed you know because without stormy in the equation is it gonna would it have.
The charm And then are they going to have to feel the need to fill that hole and bring some new girl in? And then that totally cheapens their whole relationship and this together forever thing. And they'll be like, bitch, you ain't storming. Keep on trucking. It really does make it hard to do anything else without her and still have any heart to it.
Then it's just. Some random adventure that he goes on by himself. So, yeah. Because that's what they set it up for at the end. Big old, we already spoiler alerted the whole damn thing.
He's going to go to Vegas and try to help all these ghosts that are down there. And would it just be continual adventures? But most people, you can't have it. 98% of the time, they want to try to force in a romance. Even if you don't really need it or if it's not really, you know.
That's just how movies work. You know, so. I don't want them to try to replace her. Yeah. I think that would, again, that would totally cheapen the whole of the story.
It's like their whole building of the relationship, their whole plan to be forever 80 years from now. I don't think if they ever did a remake that they would try to force another girl in and cheapen the thing. I think they might try to. Remake or a sequel. No, but I was going to say they may. try to work her in as someone who constantly comes into his dreams or whatever.
In the book, Elvis' ghost hangs out with him. Why can't Stormy. Well, she goes on to a better place, but why can't she visit? Why can't Elvis go to a better place? Elvis.
I don't know. He just wants to hang around and get sandwiches and stuff. Can ghosts eat sandwiches? No. Well, then.
That's what I'm thinking. Maybe she comes back. Maybe she, like, jumps in the bodies. See, now that I could be on board for. Can they do that?
She could be a body-jumping ghost. Eh, whatever. And then it'd still be stormy, but it would be alive in a different body. But I bet that body wouldn't look as cute in them shorts. Eh, she looks pretty good.
Not gonna lie. But anyways, yes, watch this movie. Cry like a little girl. I know you both did. It's okay.
A little bit. I did. I didn't even go live. Yeah. It's a little watery.
Yeah. Yeah, but you're dead inside. You probably didn't even cry during O'Giller. Everybody cried during O'Giller. I've never seen O'Giller.
We were discussing that in one of the recent episodes. You're talking to a guy who put dogs and cats to sleep for weeks. Oh, no more talking, boyfriend. Oh, that's the alarm. We've got to wrap this thing up.
Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next week. Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening. I'm here and I will reflect you Both of us basically unattached to anything or anyone Unless we're pretending You live your life in your head Some call it imagination I'd rather focus instead on anything except.
What I'm. You're never concerned with acceptance We are all desperately seeking out and fitting. In with anyone who will accept us. Gonna be okay Hey. Gonna laugh at this one day.
Don't let someone tell you you're new. Don't let someone tell you you're new. I'm going to put the pants on. Put the socks on. I'm not going to.
Socks keep me warm. No pants. You got on shorts. Those kind of shows. Those are not pants.
No pants. No pants. No springs. No springs. I don't like that girl.
She's just so much of a fucking tree-hugging hippie. Let's go dance in the woods eating clay. She eats clay. Where did that come from? What?
Like in the real world? In the real world. Shailene, she goes out and she eats fucking clay. I'm not making this shit up. Okay.
Okay. She sounds like an idiot. So when the world collapses, I've got a list of people. These are the first people that I'm going to end up fucking shooting because I hate them. Can I add to your list?
Yes, you can. Okay, I'll kill him too. Her. Her. I'm assuming you don't want this on the show.
I don't care. As the authorities are immediately alerted. I meant kill them with kindness. And cookies. And cookies.
And cookies. And rainbows. And rainbows. And poop sex. And poop sex.
Oh, Lord. And the reason I got the poop sex was because when we used to live down in Florida, somebody spray painted poop sex on the side of the pier. And when we were kids, we giggled about it for the longest time. That one and somebody else spray-painted, Muttley Crew is doo-doo. And that one cracked me up.
Yeah, that one's true. Later, yo. Good night. Andrew Garfield's a douche. That goes without saying, but feel free to say it again.
Andrew Garfield's a douche. Amen. Fucking A. What do you do? You shove your fucking fist in it.
That's what you do. You fist that motherfucker. Well, there you go. That's our quote for the episode right there. You fist that motherfucker.
I said it again. What are you going to do? You fist that motherfucker. This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and edited by the Auditude Studios, with opening music performed by the Empires. For more on how to sponsor or support the show, email producer at moviemeltdown.com.
