Samuel Loomis. The Devil Walks Among Us. What's up? Welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
I'm Nora. And I'm Phillip. And Happy Halloween! Happy Halloween! It is a big Halloween party.
It actually kind of is this time. Normally it's just a very fancy Halloween episode. But this time, things have changed slightly. Very quickly, actually. And now it's become a whole Halloween party.
It's true. So, you can hear Dead Man's Party going. You know it's a good Halloween party if Dead Man's Party is somewhere in the background going on right now. But this is the most special episode ever. Obviously.
Because we've spent a long time. Seems like 20 years. A long time. Years in our head, at least. Years and years hearing about a certain character that, um...
Usually we just get updates, which has become my favorite. I don't know if this person knows it, but there's a running update of like, at what point did this poor bastard walk into the room while you were watching some god-awful movie? And then we have to be like, what the hell is this? So that person is actually here. That's why we know it's a party.
Nora, would you like to introduce this character? Oh, drum roll, please. Drum roll, please. It's my husband. It's Pierce.
Hi, everyone. Thanks for having me on. I love the podcast. And yes, the horror movies that Nora makes me watch, some of them are really bad. But some of them are really good.
So I think you have a good slice of the range. Telling them, I suppose. We know how bad most of them are. We're the other idiots that are watching them with her. But Those other characters out there, hopefully.
Actually, I just heard from someone today about our previous episode, and they went, yeah, I can't get through She-Beast. They went, I'm just going to listen to the show for the wrap-up. I'm like, well, I mean, we had fun with it, so you're coming out in the better on this deal, really, because that was not the best of this movie ever. It's special. I think that's what I said.
I was like, we actually had fun with it because it's so ridiculous. More so than some of the other sad and sorry ones. So sometimes maybe we're saving you guys out there. Maybe you'll just watch enough of it to go, oh no, I didn't have sense enough to turn this off. Whereas we don't, so we can give you the overview once you turn it off like a normal human being.
It's a public service. You're welcome. So, I guess, following suit with every Halloween episode we've ever had, Candy... Yay. So you supplied green candy first and foremost.
Yes. Ghoulish green. But I also threatened to bring more ghost toast. So there you go. Yay.
Because Pierce hadn't had any ghost toast that I know of. You're missing out. Oh, I've heard descriptions. So there you go. And then this one I saw yesterday.
I was like, we've done some of these tastings before. But I have not seen the Monster Mash special edition of these Jelly Bellies. Oh, God. Now, I don't think any of them are supposed to. Yeah, I know.
They're kind of weird. And yet, this is about as many. This small bag is about as many as I ever need. And I still probably won't get through all these. So according to this, Caramel Corn, bitchin'.
Green Apple. Jewel Grape Soda. Jewel Orange. Wild Blackberry. I'm on board so far.
What's up with Juul? Is this sponsored by a soda company or something? I'm not familiar with. We can bust into these. Maybe they're on board with them.
Kids, not only do you need candy, you also need to do a little inhaling on this. We have lots of things that we put our name on. I'm both relieved and disappointed by the flavor offerings because these are very. Yeah, there's no like earwigs. There's no like brains.
Yeah. We've done most of the other ones we've done that are usually like, this tastes like zombie. And I'm like, no, that really wasn't the thing. This tastes like zombie. Was it the Skittles we had a couple years ago?
The Skittles was a zombie flavored one that I'm using quotes, flavored one that really was more like rotting cabbage or something. It was not a good one. Version. And it was one of those where it was regular flavored ones and so you didn't know unless you ate one. Because I think one of us got regular flavors and we were like, no, these are great!
And the other went, oh god! So they sucker you in. That was not fun. So there's the food options, but I told you I was borrowing your refrigerator. We also have a beverage.
I didn't get tons because I didn't know any of them. A paper bag, I see. Well, like a true wino. I keep it in a paper bag. I'm thinking about it.
But when I saw this, I was way too excited, mostly about the label. A bottle of blood. So I, back in the olden days, was a sucker for some Jones soda. We're not sponsored by Jones, but if they want to give us money, I'm all for it. But I saw this yesterday and was like, a bottle of blood with a big vampire face on it.
I'm on board. So if you want to get us fancy glasses, or we can all just swig out of the same bottle, whichever. Blood chalice. Since the wedding, we have 8,000 glasses. That's true.
You did say you got a little bit of glassware. Blood sucker. That's super cool. I remember Jones from... I mean, they were the only ones that had like a green, like artificial green and artificial blue soda.
And as a kid, it's like, yes, that's what I want. This is, I mean. It's very bloody. It's almost blood-like. I mean, like the blood that you pour off your steak.
Just what we're going for. Also busting into these jelly bellies here. So let's see. What do I end up with? Oh, hell yeah.
I think there's some candy. Yeah. Do I need to get the bottle opener? No. I think it's a twist off.
Am I pouring it? Would you? Please? I'm busy having candy corn flavored jelly beans. How's that?
Interesting? I'm going with interesting. I like candy corn, which I know nobody likes candy corn, but they're all wrong. I don't know what flavor this is, but I'm enjoying it. Which one?
It's the golden one. Seems like that'd be pumpkin, but I don't think we had a pumpkin option. Thank you. Oh, it is vaguely orangey. Okay, so I got a caramel corn one.
I got the purple-y one. Thank you, Nora. You're welcome. Thank you. I'm going to pass on the caramel corn, I think.
Now, are we all going to drink this at the same time like some sort of blood ritual so we can be initiated into this cult? We've long been a cult, so you've just been roped in now. I hope you're happy. I am very, very happy. Sucker.
He fell right into our trap. No, thanks for bringing these. I'm like, I'm super curious. Those are good. Those are really good.
That was the test run last time when we were like, look, they've already got candy out for Halloween. I literally, well, we were listening to the episode and I literally screamed in the car and be like, what? I like ghost toast. And she was like, ha ha. Are we supposed to clinky clinky?
Are we clinking? All right, this is official. Thanks for having me on, guys. Blood sacrifice. It doesn't taste like blood.
I don't get much of. A flavor at all. Not enough iron, really. I like the. Flintiness that you get from normal blood.
It's supposed to be like cherry? Yeah, I think it's just like a strawberry? It has a stronger scent than it does flavor. Yeah. Red?
It's red. That's why I didn't buy a whole six pack. I didn't know that we wanted to sit here drinking it the whole time, but we definitely needed to test it. It's not bad. I don't hate it.
No, it's super good. It just doesn't. It tastes like much. Well, yeah. It's not as much flavor as I expected, actually.
Let's see. I got a purple. You test the purple, and then we'll come up with more ridiculous things. Ooh, the purple's good. Purple is good.
That is caramel corn. I don't know what to do with it. There's something about popcorn-flavored candy. Yeah, because I kind of like the idea of the popcorn when it's the basic version. But then every time I'm like, I don't know.
Shouldn't I just go make popcorn? Well, my tongue says, yes, this is popcorn. But my brain says the texture's all wrong. This is weird and chewy. This is confusing me.
All right, the other ongoing Halloween party, festivities, activities type thing. So, as usual, we've been doing our representations of ourselves. Have we? I wasn't going to bother bringing them, but I made some modifications. So, Nora's was probably the biggest one, so I thought she'd be excited to see.
Yes, I'm talking about Legos, like always. Yay! So, not only are you a witch, but you got a whole witch outfit this year. Including, if you'll notice, there's a frog in your pocket. Oh, my old friend.
Phillip, I decided you needed a more piratey shirt. Yes. And I think I found a different hat, too. So, you're even more piratey than usual. Ooh, it's a fancy pirate hat.
Mine, I went as realistic as real life because I was like, Back in the day, I would have put on a whole big outfit and worn it around all day, but now I'm just, I don't have the patience for it anymore. So I'm sticking with my skeleton hoodie action. So I didn't put much effort in and that seems about right. It's classic. Very Crypt Keeper.
And then I had no idea until a few hours ago that we had another party in this party. And normally it took, like it took a long time to piece together these random goings on for our three. So the fact that I came up with this, I'm shocked as well as it turned out. But you also get to be a cowboy, Pierce. Oh!
So, I don't know how accurate I am, but considering I didn't have any outside options, I just had to go with what I could find. It's not too far off. It's a spitting image of you. It's not too. I was kind of like.
Wow. By the end, I was like, you're just going to get a helmet, I guess. You can be Darth Vader and have a giant helmet on. But I came with that guy, and I went, oh, you know, not too far off. Yeah, he's like Wyatt Earp.
Yeah. And I figured, I didn't know if you wanted that many bandoliers, but you got them. You can keep like cell phone and keep other crap in there too. So one of. Your favorite, tell me your favorite movie.
Oh yeah. My favorite, my, one of my favorite movies is tombstone. Okay. Like it is awesome. I think you and everyone's dad in America.
I'm telling you, I'm a product of the nineties. Like that is definitely like nineties. It's one of those friendly movies. You can't like as much as there are times when I'm like, it's just kind of your standard Western type thing. But if you go back and watch it, those performances, specifically Val Kilmer, is ridiculous.
Doc Holliday, he's the best. But even Michael Biehn, who hit and miss, you never know what you're going to get from him in a movie, but he's really good in that. It's surprising. Look, there we are, trick-or-treating. Look at us.
But, see, that was the other thing. I was like, normally we've got a spooky house, which is still sitting there by the door, so I'll put us back there later. But there's a spooky house we'll be, you know, hanging out by. Going on our pumpkin ride. What are those tractor things they do?
Hayride? Hayride! That's a thing. I don't leave the house much. So, yeah, we'll be hanging out and doing our hayride.
But the other thing, I don't think we've ever done this before. So we've definitely hung out with Scooby before. Aww. But... We've never had the full-on Mystery Machine.
Whoa. So now I've decided the other guys got super rich with that company, and they all retired. Scooby's like, look, it's the Scooby gang. I got to do my own thing. So he and the Mystery Machine came along, and now we're the new Scooby gang.
So there you go. We're hanging out in the Mystery Machine with Scooby. So is Scooby driving before he met us? I don't trust me doing it. So unless one of you wants to claim it, Scooby's in charge.
That's fine with me. So once again, Halloween traditions continue. I've always been a fan of props on an audio format. Obviously, because that's all I do. Oh, yeah.
And I did bring the Scooby zombie because, you know. Fun. Is that not the bet? That is pretty awesome. It's totally of his stylings.
The color scheme's perfect from the show. It's really nice work there, guys. We also need to be sponsored by Legos, I'm just saying. Please. So, the only other thing in our continuing update saga, because normally you would have come up the walkway and you could have seen the progress of the pumpkin patch.
Oh, yeah. But because we reversed things and we're a slightly different location now, I have to show you what's going on out there I was going to take one today, but it's been like pounded with rain for two days straight. So I figured I better go with one from before that happened. So I'm assuming if you're listening, you know, but if not, there's a pumpkin patch I put inside of my house out front like a psychopath. So here's what it currently looks like.
That looks promising. Yeah, that looks great. That looks very sincere. It's giant leaves that have completely overtaken that area. Yeah.
And so far, not a pumpkin in the. Well, there are weird flowers, which I'm like. Did the pumpkins show up where the flowers are? I don't know. Yes, I think that...
What am I, a farmer? I don't know. The flowers die and then the pumpkins come out. The pumpkin shoots out and becomes a sentient being and attacks people or something like that. I think eggplants do that, too.
I don't know. I'm not a botanist. I just know emojis, and that's not what that means at all. I feel like you're the closest out of all of us to be a botanist. I don't know anything about plants.
I have a pumpkin patch. We have had one successful plant outside. And that's you. Is it that big tree? In the back corner.
See, I was making a joke. It was here before you guys got here. I can't see around the tree. I'm tired. Slow on the uptake on that one.
It wasn't a good joke anyway so props out of the way um i guess our normal go-to have you seen anything creepy lately in this halloween season yes. Should i go first oh sure oh we should have picked one for you yeah think of something okay well i'm gonna. Steal this one at some point he walked in and went what the hell are you watching. We watched the movie Oddity. Anyone's heard of that?
How recent is this? It just came out, yeah. Maybe, yeah. And it just came on streaming. You will love it.
It's great. It is absolutely what you want. Oh, yeah. It's like a very neat little ghost story that has some humor in it. I don't know if I heard about it or not.
I don't know. Um, it's about this woman who gets murdered in her house that she's renovating and her twin sister is like blind and also kind of psychic and is trying to like kind of get justice for her killing. Maybe I haven't heard about this. And she has this giant wooden mannequin. That's not creepy at all.
That would be right at Brian's alley. See, yeah, you guys told me it was weird. It's not weird. That lady has one too. Yeah.
Well, it's definitely like, I don't know, psychological. Well, yeah, because she owns an oddity shop, so that's why it's called Oddity. See? Will someone give me one of those? Yeah.
And it's really fun. And the director is Damian McCarthy, who. He did that one other one. He did a movie called Caveat, which is also very... But yeah, he's a great director.
He's really good at very slow tension building. And then there are four or five jump scares that... made me yell out every single time i really didn't see him coming. And all the supernatural horrifying things and there are like i don't know they're scary looking too right because there's like i don't know caveat i didn't i wasn't quite as scared by the monsters and stuff that were in there in quite the same way i don't know it was awesome you'll love it it's really fun. It's a great tight little spooky fun. We actually tried watching it again last night, but I think I only made it about halfway through.
Yeah, we started it again last night. So that one's yours. It was so good, you slept through it. Which is every review of a movie for me these days. All I do is turn it on and go, wait, where did I?
No, I was not at this point. What the hell happened? Oh, sleeping again. Have you seen anything? I have.
I watched Sleepaway Camp Parts 2 and 3. lucky to back i don't know about that. I remember having a it might have come after the there was a period where i was like a bunch of the things that had a little weird following that i was like i don't think i've seen that so i started going through trying to like check these off the list and at one point sleepaway camp was something i hadn't seen and i was not prepared and then i watched it was like holy shit And then it was like, but there's more. So I think I watched at least two and three. I know they've done a four and I think later another recent. I have no idea.
Add on. I feel like I'm returned to sleep. But I remember, yeah, two and three were within years of the first one. So how do you feel about those movies? Hey, I enjoyed the hell out of both of them.
That's how I remember it. I don't remember details at all, but I remember enjoying them and not quite as much of a shock value as the first one. Part two, definitely not the same shock value. They try to... to keep it kind of serious like the first one, but the silliness creeps in real quick. And then part three is just silly from start to finish.
It gets to the point where she starts making one-liners after every single kill. Look, if Freddy has taught us anything, that's how you do it. Poor Angela. But they're so. Like in part two you almost well at the end of part one I felt sorry for Angela in part two I'm like no she's just no she's a horrible person I was like she's just a basket case and in part three it's like yeah whatever I'm just gonna sit back and.
Watch at this point I mean if there's no Judy anymore we're just wasting our time without Judy there's no Judy. I should have been Judy for Halloween this year. I mean, if you've got a pony-o, you can do it right now. And a t-shirt that just says Judy. Which is my favorite thing.
Such an awesome look. Movie-wise, I was just looking at it, and I was like, what have I watched? Most of it wasn't horror. I mean, unless you're counting that new Crow movie, which... If you were listening, I just talked a whole lot about that one.
But, by the way, Gorefest. Don't know if anyone knew that going in, but in case you were wondering, should I watch that? If you want to see some gory shit. Yeah, The New Crow. Really?
Who knew? Not at all. I don't understand. This is what I went on about forever, but if they would have just not called it that, everybody would have been fine. Yeah.
Like, it's just that all you did was piss off the fans. Like, it doesn't, I don't know why they think it has name recognition anyway this far in. Like, either you're a fan or you don't care. Right. So, it's one or the other.
You're not cashing in on a whole new Gen Z crowd that cares about it. Like, they don't, they weren't there when the comic came out, so they're not old school fans. What are you doing? So, yeah, if they just would have given it a different title. The Crow.
Pulling Redemption, you know, something. Crows. Yeah, something else. Yeah. It would have been different because it's a totally different story, but yeah, stylistically very different in the gore factor because it is pretty bloody.
Gotta say, gotta say. So there's that. But the other one I was thinking, I was watching this the other day and I was like, I wonder if Nora has been tempted by this. I don't know if you even have this channel, but, um, I know you're not into the Marvel world, but Agatha all along is very witchy. I've seen, yeah.
I'm not a Marvel person, but I'm. Like, that'd be fun. I knew that, but I was wondering because it's so sort of detached. I mean, it's got a tie in, it's direct tie into WandaVision, but again, I was watching it going, if you didn't see anything, how much would you like not give a shit and just watch it because you're watching witchy stuff? Because it's, All kinds of witchies.
It's a very modern era. If you were a witch, what would you be like? Where would you be? What would your job be? What would you have to do to try to pretend like you're a normal person?
Yeah, it's some interesting stuff thrown in there. So I'm several episodes in, and I'm just hoping it doesn't... They've done weird things with their other series. I'm like, don't be Loki. Don't be Loki.
Because Loki just became nonsense. Like, it was just... Cool visuals that make absolutely no sense for 45 minutes. Enjoy! I'm like, guys, it does look cool.
What are we doing here? Why am I watching this bullshit? So, no offense. I like Hiddleston and all, but that show had so minimal payoff for the ridiculous amount of time they devoted to it. I think it was a critical mass of just Marvel media kind of all coming together.
And I don't think... Feige still got his name attached to everything. But I'm like, I don't think they know what to do anymore. So like, they're just like, we got to the end point. Now it's been years and we still don't know how to recover.
Like we spent a decade building up to this and then we did it. Great. Everybody loved it. Oh shit. Now what do we do?
Like, so that's been years now of them going, well, what do we do now? And like, there's been so many misfires of like, this will work. Nope. This will work. Nope.
So this one's at least interesting so far, but yeah, super witchy. Is that on Disney Plus? Yes. Don't worry, they're hiking their prices. So in case you were thinking, I don't know if I have enough for that.
It costs more now. Yeah, that's one that we don't have. We're, I don't know. I feel like we've totally, this is just random real world complaints. We're right back where we were.
Like the whole idea before was like cutting the cable. We're getting free of all these horrible things they do to us on regular TV, paying for cable. I'm like, okay, but now. You have to have at least 17 different streaming services to see the things you want to see. And then on top of that before, like with your pay cable products, like your Showtimes and HBOs in the beginning, that was the whole pitch was like, no commercials.
This is the greatest thing ever. Every one of them has commercials. I know. Like Hulu just changed it. Disney's now starting to change it.
Netflix just changed it. I was like, at least, I mean, points to Netflix. Normally they don't have a whole lot of great stuff, but like third, what I've watched of it when they switched over, it's really quick. Like they're maybe 30 seconds and they're out of the way and you're good for quite a while, if not your whole half hour show. So they're at least quick on there.
But yeah, I mean, at what point are we just right back where we were? Because I feel like we're already there. Oh, yeah. Someone's just going to consolidate and it's going to be like, this is the greatest thing since cable television. But we already had that.
So now I'm trying to decide what's the next thing that's going to come in and be like, we're going to be so much better than this option. Are they beaming it straight to our brain? They come to your house and they act out the show. Now that might be interesting. I would pay $ 14.
99 a month. That would be... You have to clear out the rumpus room so they go, all right, come on in. Now, Loki, go! This is going to look really bad.
Just a guy with glow sticks. Those aren't even good horns. Yeah. Better horns. This looks terrible.
Like, that's just my life with peers. He just comes out from another room. Glow sticks. Everywhere you go, glow sticks. I have no problem believing that.
Like, I think I just assumed that anyway. Yeah. I can see. Yeah, I can see. Yeah, I am the loudest thing in this house.
Yeah. And Nelson lives here. Yeah, that's saying a lot. I think you're throwing down the gauntlet with Nelson. He might take you out today.
He's over there. He's in some rumble. I don't know a moment's peace. That seems right, actually. All right.
Anything else before we get rolling? The next phase of the party. Because it really is a fancy gathering where we're going to watch the movie. Oh, I can't wait. What is the name of the actor, the lead actor's name in this movie?
Oh. I went to double check on how to say his last name. Dasmulchian? It's something. Hold on here.
Let me find it. Because Nora and I have been watching a lot of these, what do you want to call them? Documentaries? Dasmulchian. I think is the way it's supposed to be.
David Dasmulchian. Oh. Yeah, and Shudder, they're doing like a. horror's greatest so every week they put out like you know it's like Japanese horror like giant monsters or horror comedies or Stephen King adaptations so with the little talking head interview things and he's. He's like all over it oh really yeah yeah for sure so I don't know what horror scholarship slash popular you know figureheads. Are we should get to him yeah after the movie because there is reasons that he's in this movie yeah so All right.
Awesome. Let's go watch Late Night with the Devil. That's what it says on the screen over there. Oh, I'll make popcorn. Oh!
Yes! This is a party. See y'all later. I am so glad my internet went out. Monsters do have their place.
In the zoo. In your nightmares. In the deep. In your favorite horror movies. but not in your living room, on your TV. Don't let pay TV be the monster in your living room.
Pay TV and cable TV companies are seeking the right to charge you for the very programs you now get free. I really hope you love it. Gosh, I hope you love it. Please love it. Please love it. Please love it.
I'm trying to host the national syndicated talk show and i'm trying to help you keep it on the air we all know how important it is to keep our sponsors and affiliates happy but in my humble opinion there is only one person who really matters in this whole darn crazy business. And that is you our viewer. You're meddling with things you don't understand. Whoa! Now, as you know, here on Night Owls, we think it's very important to keep an open mind.
Please welcome Dr. June Ross Mitchell and Lily, the young subject of the book, Conversations with the Devil. I really don't think it's a good idea, Jack. It's becoming more unpredictable. That's a good thing.
That's why we still do live TV. Ladies and gentlemen, please stay tuned for a live television first as we attempt to commune with the devil. Lily, can you hear me? Good to see you again, Jack. Lily, return to me.
This isn't about ratings anymore. No one's going anywhere. How could you let it happen, Jack? How could you let it happen? Please be warned.
Anyone with young children in the room... You're. About to see. You okay, Jack? Is profoundly disturbing and shocking.
Here comes the devil. Oh, here comes the devil. Oh, here comes the devil. Oh, the devil with the devil, says I. Look out for the devil.
Look out for the devil. Look out for the devil. Oh, the devil with the devil says aye. You're so afraid of old man Satan, now why don't you stop your hesitating? You're gonna be a long time dead, so the devil with the devil says aye.
You're always giving me the dickens, telling me that life's no easy pickings. But just as long as I have fun, why the devil with the devil says aye. You can have your social teas and bingo. For your fun. But the things I like to do, you stop me one by one.
Now even if you make me stronger, that ain't gonna make me live no longer. So even if I go to. The devil with the devil says hi. Look out for the devil, look out for the devil. Oh, the devil with the devil says hi.
I'm loaded up on apple cider and popcorn, so I'm ready to go. Speaking of which, put in that cattleman seasoning. I thought there. Was something there. It's the move, and it's vegan.
There's not actually beef in it. There's no cattle in it. There's not an actual cattleman. There's no cattleman ground up in there. It's not human meat.
It's the human note. So, we're back in this week's technically for real sofa we actually sat on a sofa and watched it which i used to do this show was actually built on that move right there and i don't understand how it happened every week it was every week and we did the show the watch the movie part the whole movie wrap-up part like every week i don't understand how that happened because now i'm exhausted just thinking about it so It's a special occasion when we get to do that again. So I'm glad. Very comfy couch. Yeah.
We got to settle in. But it did because I was about to take a nap. A very pleasant nap. They're still after the show. Well.
We're going to wrap up and go lay down on the couch. See you later. It's so good. It's a good couch. So, yes.
This week's very special Halloween episode of Sofa Theater Feature is Late Night with the Devil. Exactly. The year is 2023. The directors are Cameron... Is it Carnes?
C-A-I-R-N-E-S. Carnes? Canes? And Colin. So I'm assuming they're related of some sort.
They both have that last name. And the plot, according to IMDb, a live television broadcast in 1977 goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil into the nation's living rooms. Spoiler alert, we're going to run the hell out of this movie. I wouldn't say it went horribly wrong. Depends on what you're looking for in a TV show.
I think it was quite entertaining, so isn't that really what we were looking for? I think it went about the way that you'd think it would probably go. Are you not entertained? That's what it's all about. Sweep week, damn it.
So, I knew of this. I didn't know a ton. Again, I kind of avoided a ton of learning about it. I was just like, I like that guy. Sounds creepy.
I'll be up for it at some point. And here we are. So how familiar with the concept were you going into this? Yeah, we saw it when it came out a few months ago. And then right after we watched it, we watched Ghostwatch from BBC, which is a great little companion piece because that was kind of the real life situation, I guess, that they based it on.
Which, for those who don't know. There's a lot of real things that they're borrowing from this spot. Ghostwatch was. It was a TV movie that they played on air on the BBC that was made to look like a real broadcast by the BBC. So it had a nice War of the Worlds reaction?
Yes. Well, especially because when they aired it, two things went wrong. One was that Um, another TV movie had ended a little bit late. And so the original disclaimer of this is a TV movie got cut. And so it just went straight into it.
Nice. And the other thing that happened was they had set up a hotline that like the number flashes while you're watching it all throughout the broadcast. And it was supposed to play a message that was like, this is not. Real, don't worry. And instead, the phone lines were so overloaded that when people called, they just got a busy signal instead.
Wow. So people were calling in to be like. It was an amazing outcome. It sounds fantastic. What was it, Ghostwatch?
Yeah, and so the whole situation is they're going to the most haunted house in England and live broadcasting from there while they investigate. And of course, it gets spookier and spookier, so. i've heard about it for years but yeah i have not watched it so. I love that highly recommend yeah it's great we should oh yeah you guys stay after and we'll just watch. That while we're in the background yeah as we're curled up on the couch. There but so i love the like meta-ness of the whole live tv that's what i.
Like because in in getting ready for this i saw it described as like found footage yeah and i was like oh i didn't i was like yeah i guess but i'm like it's not your normal shaky cam bullshit like it's set up like a tv show which we're used to watching i watch more late night shows than most people my whole life so it's like i'm so used to that being a format i don't even think of it like it's a reality television bullshit like it is set up like a formatted television show so we're actually you really comfortable with that idea so i yeah it doesn't register that way to me which is maybe why i liked it as much yeah it doesn't have your normal shaky cam we're going in a haunted house come with me like following them around anywhere it's on a set we're in the specific camera locations and that's all we really need and yeah it all.
Works really well i forgot about the part at the very beginning where they kind of do the recap of And I'm like, I don't know if that was the best way they could. Have done that. I mean, you need some of those pieces. Yeah. So it would be like you'd have to start working more in throughout the story if you didn't do the whole, here's the spiel at the beginning of all that stuff.
Is everybody, you know, like is everybody affected by what, if it was not just like a found master tape, it's like, does it bring up the idea that everybody in the United States that would have seen this show is affected by the contents of what was in that show? Well, that was my question, because they don't tell you what happened after it aired. Right, right. So was the master tape like, that's it? I mean...
We're assuming it was being taped and not going out live. He wasn't touting it like it was a live thing, and they kept going to break. Yeah, that's where I was confused. This would only be a tape that if they decide to put it out to weirdos on the internet like us... Because that stuff kind of does get out, actually.
In the age of the internet, there are many things that I'd heard about that I thought I'd never see, and now I've seen. I'm like, oh, Jesus, no wonder they didn't put this stuff out. So, yeah, everything sort of makes its way out on the internet once it's in existence. So this is pretty much how it would work. We'd eventually be watching the footage.
So I guess that's what it was. The master tape leaked. We've seen it, people. Yeah. All right.
Well, apparently in 1977, there was live TV. Yeah, there was. But usually, I don't think Johnny didn't go directly out live because Lord knows what, Sammy Davis Jr. would come on and do something awful. They'd have to run a deal. Because even Saturday Night Live became not live because somebody was going to say the F word.
So they had that seven second delay that they built in. They were like, okay, as soon as they say it, we can bleep them out. Even though technically it's live, it's also delayed just enough for us to catch whatever horrible thing they say. So, yeah, I don't know. That part was kind of interesting.
And the fact that you said in 1977, they were so specific. The reason it's in 1977, I'm like, you could have just made this story happen because guess what? It's fake. No, they specifically made it because there's only one Halloween that falls on a Monday that would have been the beginning of Sweeps Weeks in the entirety of the 70s and it was 1977. I was like, you could have just said that.
We weren't going to check. Even dorks like us wouldn't have bothered checking. But yeah, they did the research to go, this is the only Halloween Monday in the 70s. Like, it all falls on 1977. I was like, wow.
Dang. That's... You guys went to some extra work for that one. Good for you. But it also reminded me, again, watching late night television as long as I have, it's been a while since I've had a good Billy Carter joke.
They've really gone out of style these days. I don't know why. Before there was Roger Clinton, we had Billy Carter. Roger clinton exactly like i know who that is but again you had the butt of the joke that became like the go-to for late night television like there's always somebody to make jokes about so yeah i like that they were just realistic enough that like yeah yeah billy carter jokes that's what it's all about man so i don't know where else do you want to dive into this i. Don't know my brain's still processing yeah yeah you really just got hit with it well yeah it usually takes me a day or two to that's.
Why i don't do these also as time's going on i sort of like the extra processing time just to wrap my head around some of these crazy movies so yeah because i'm. Sure i'll be in the car on the way home going. Wait a minute you know what we did need a couple extra logos at the beginning of They were a little upset that we didn't get six or eight. Who made what? I think it was eight or nine different productions.
How many hands are in the pocket? I love communal work, but what do you do? Is it just a various paper that you sign? I feel bad for every studio that is involved. That wasn't the one that had the animated.
Yeah, the animated horror characters were badass. Who was that again? I don't even remember. Good Fiend? Yeah, I think that was it.
Well done. That should be at the front of every movie. Right. Can't you condense the other ones? Good Fiend and Friends?
Just a list that scrolls by, and these guys too, but mostly Good Fiend. I have to say that tops the one that was at the end of Buffy. With the little alien. Yeah. We don't like him anyway.
Buffy I like. That guy. Now we have reason to be. Like, I wasn't trying to bring that up. Well, I was saying, though, that is his production company because then it was on Angel and it was on whatever else he tried to do after that.
And then slowly we've worked him out of the scenario. Just bring back Buffy. Come on now. Doug Jones. The Gentleman.
Mm-hmm. The gentleman himself. Yeah, that episode, The Gentleman, about those tall, scary guys. He's a tall, scary guy. Very true.
But he's so nice. I know. He's so sweet. Not scary as a person. He's very scary in most of his creatures.
But yeah, not so scary as a regular dude. He is very tall. And skinny. But cuddly. If you get anywhere...
Oh, see, I have. If you get anywhere near him, you will be cuddled, so. Well. Fair warning. That's just great.
I want to be cuddled by Doug Jones. That can be arranged. Maybe one day. Well, just get in the room with him. It'll happen.
Yeah. So.... Aside from cuddling... Again, this is tied to a lot of specific things. There is a weird...
And it was only in thinking about it, I was like, no, this was at the same time. So again, not that big a deal for the outside world, but I had weird connections with two different pieces of this movie. And then I was like, wait, those happened at the same thing. So our David Lead guy was actually in a movie that I went to the film festival to cover, if we're pretending like I'm an actual show. And.
Talk to the director. It's actually a really good movie called Animals. And if you want to watch something depressing about people trying to get off drugs, it's really well made. It's terrific acting and directing, but it's not a cheery movie. But I remember that's one of the first times I recognized him by name.
He's been around for a long time. He's in The Dark Knight, for God's sake. I forgot he's one of the cops in The Dark Knight. Oh, that's right. At the very beginning, right?
Yeah, he's in there with the Joker in the Dark Knight. What? Oh, man. I didn't remember that until today when I started to look. I was like, what else do I know him from?
He's been in tons of stuff. Yeah. But yeah, Animals was the first one. And when they did the showing of the movie and then they did a Q & A kind of thing afterward, he was actually shooting whatever his next thing was. So he couldn't physically be there.
He zoomed in. Which I was like, that's kind of cool. Most people would be like, tough luck, can't do it. He bothered to actually zoom in for the entire Q & A and answer questions from weirdos in the audience. So yeah, I have virtually been in the same room with him.
Pretend, sort of. But he was live talking to us, so that was kind of cool. I've seen him in various more horror documentary things, actually talking about horror. I feel like I haven't seen him acting in. I mean, the Batman thing just like turned the light on.
I totally know exactly. The biggest thing he's in, he's part of the little crew in Ant-Man. So there's like Ant-Man and his three guys that break into stuff with him. He's one of the three guys. He has a crazy accent.
Oh. So he's like doing kind of a bit. Like that's the thing. He's so like immersed in that weird character. Like you're like, oh yeah, that guy.
Like doesn't sound like him at all because he's doing a crazy accent. But yeah, so he's been in all three of those Ant-Man movies as like this... way over here side character, but that's probably the most mainstream thing people would probably know him from. I haven't been in any of the Ant-Man movies. Why not? I don't know.
God. Well, I'm glad he. I'm sorry, my mind is being blown right now. I'm telling you, he's been in a lot of stuff, but he's just not like a household name, and maybe that's because nobody knows how to say his last name. That David something.
Anyway, that guy. I like that guy. So you're talking accents, and where is he from? What sort of accent does he have? He literally is from America.
He's from Kansas. Yeah, he's the most American you can get. What's his background? I do not care anymore. But I will, while we're figuring out his old school days, he is like super geek and like horror aficionado.
Like that is even what the directors were saying why they came on board with him for this role. It's like he was already kind of in the running and then when they like Looked him up, he's like, they're reading an article in Fangoria that's written by him. He's writing, he was going over all the horror hosts from back in the day. He's the one writing the article about horror hosts. So it's like, yeah, he's that level of dorkiness.
Good for him. And then he's written, he's a writer in general, but he's also written his own comic that was horror themed. And then, I don't know, I've seen him on. I don't love Sven Gulli, but I love the idea of what they do there. And yeah, one of the clips I saw him in, he's wearing one of his shirts.
So I'm pretty sure he's been on there before and they've done interviews with him. But also there's a reference in there that like his parents are watching and Berwyn, which is the running joke in Svengoolie that they all say the stupid name every time they mention Berwyn. What is that anyway? It's a city. It's a small town that one of the...
I think the chicken character is from there or something, but every time... Anything comes up, they play that. Again, that's part of my issues with Suniguli. He is also apparently in the music video for Passion Pit's Constant Conversations. Well, there you go.
2012. That's how hip he is. I love that song. Exactly. This picture of him that I just clicked on is quite dreamy.
Yeah. He just looked kind of like a dork. He's a handsome man. What do you want? Apparently he's Iranian, by the way.
So that's where the last. Name comes from. Kansasian. I was going to say, Kansasian? His father was Iranian.
So, Dastmalchian? Dastmalchian. Dalmatian? Sounds like Kansas to me. I would love it if it was Dalmatian.
It's so close. All of that to say, I think he does a really great job as the lead character. And I want to see him get more lead roles like that. Yeah, you can see him in character, but also you can see he really is drawn to horror enough that it doesn't come off. fake, he's super into this kind of stuff. Yeah.
I think that's why he was so immersed in this role. Well, I guess he was like an executive producer on it also. I thought his name on there. He's in a movie called Angry Video Game Nerd the Movie. Oh.
Yeah. Like I said, he's been working quite a while. Seems fitting. He's been working for quite a while. Relatable.
Oh, he's in Blade Runner. The new one. I was going to say, wow, he must have been a kid. But the other weird, because it was weird that I sort of almost ran into him virtually, but that same weekend, that same film festival, they premiered a movie there that was An Honest Liar, which, by the way, freaking awesome. Watch it.
But it is a documentary about the amazing Randy. Yes. Who is who the Carmichael character is based on. And his entire, like it's almost word for word. Like his entire life, he started out as like a magician and like he did all kinds of crazy tricks.
And then just turned a corner and was like, no, you guys are screwing people over. And like devoted the rest of his life to just busting people that were scamming people. That were doing spoon bending and all of that crazy shit that caught on in the 70s. And like he spent the whole rest of his life just kind of busting people and so much so that there was a reward offered. Yeah.
That he did that exact same bit of like, I will give you this amount of money. All you have to do is prove it in my circumstances, not in your shady circumstances. Under controlled situation, make your paranormal thing happen. Here's the money. Nobody ever did it.
So there was a, yeah, that documentary. He was there that weekend. Old man that he was at that point. This was like 2014, I think. And he was an old guy by then.
And yeah, he was there, did an amazing Q & A. And I do have a picture of me with him. So I ran into the amazing Randy while he was still around. So that's pretty amazing. Yeah, I remember I saw that documentary.
It's really good. It is really good. So go watch An Honest Liar after you watch this movie because it's very good. But it was strange that both those were the same weekend. I just thought that was weird.
Like, I thought about it. I was like, oh, yeah, that. And that. And I went, wait, isn't that the same year? I'm pretty sure it was.
So I thought that was very strange. Interesting. But that leads a lot into the whole Amazing Randy versus the Carmichael aspect of this. Because it's a huge portion of it. It's like it's the only way all of this stuff really unfolds.
Goes horribly, horribly wrong. Yeah. Like, had he not been there that night, would it have been a normal show? I don't know. I don't know that you were destined for a normal show, but it certainly got dialed up quite a few notches by Carmichael.
Yeah. Yeah. Somebody wiggling a $ 100, 000 check in your face is also sort of offensive. Just be like, come on, man. Oh, I don't think so.
Well, don't say you don't need his money, because the last guy that said I don't need his money... Immediately started convulsing. Yeah. And then died. And then died.
I should have just asked for the money. But yeah, anybody who wants to, anyone who wants to wave $ 100, 000 in my face, feel free. I'll listen. I'll listen to your turn. I'll just go along with it.
What gets me that check? Okay, cool. Yeah, that was a very irresponsible. parapsychologist whatever her title. Was choices were made is this the return of mental illness girl yes. Paranormal edition yeah uh don't be her guardian well.
I'm gonna say she did sort of adopt her right i was like i feel like that's a pretty great you're probably not supposed to be waiting i. Think in the 70s people just adopted kids. Probably true based on tv shows i've seen different strokes yeah everybody just adopts whoever they want it's all good Yeah, that's. What we call dual relationships, and they are not allowed. According to this movie, it's fine.
If someone's a client, but then you also... For example, we. Have a foster care program, but employees aren't allowed to be foster parents for the kids in our foster care program because they're clients there. What if you really like that puppy, though? You want to take it home?
You can't. You can't. You've got to quit your job, I guess. Okay. And people have done that.
If you're that committed. To a child, I suppose. Yeah. Although I don't know why he would be committed to the sole survivor of a satanic cult house explosion who speaks like a demon. Yeah, that was another one that was like, I'm like, I'm watching the footage they're showing.
I'm like, so like Waco? And then if you read, it's like, yeah. So like basically they based it on. So take the 70s Anton LaVey bullshit that was going on and then cram it into the Waco, busting them and burning things down. And it's pretty much what we end up with.
So yeah. That, yeah, there is a lot going on. There was a lot of things borrowed from in this. I kind of liked it because it was just subtle enough. They didn't make it about these things.
They just sort of stole. From reality and were like, yeah, these are things that were going on at that time and we just took from them all. Yeah, because the Bohemian Grove. That's a real thing. Not to sound like a conspiracy theory.
Did you read the rundown on it, though? Yeah, I listened to a podcast about it before. That's just extra dorky. Yeah, it's wild. Can we have a poor person's version of that?
Yes, we can. Just like, I don't know, Magbar or something. Grover from the Muppets would be our mascot. And then we'll like... I'm on board with this already.
And then we'll take over the decisions of like, I don't know, local neighborhood councils or something. Yeah, neighborhood advisory board. We would have to start small. Isn't this the group that Fred Flintstone was in? The Water Buffaloes or something?
The Royal Order. Yeah. And the Grand Poobah. Him and or the Honeymooners because it's the same show essentially. They both had that same little group that they would go off to and have their little man meetings, which is always weird if you ask me.
Oh, is that what like. It's not like the Lions Club. What are those just like random old people clubs? Well, you got the Moose Lodge, you got your Kiwanis, you got your Knights of Columbus, you got your Eagle Oddfellows. Yes, all of them.
I don't trust any of those, by the way. Yeah, all of those. How odd do you got to be, man? Are those poor people bogeymen? No one's knocking on my door to ask me to be an Oddfellow.
Right, you sink them out. Yeah. Right? I don't know. I don't know.
Then you got your Freemasons. You got your. Oh, yeah. That's as far as I know. It's a little more secretive.
So the Bohemian Grove, it gives the address of where they're located in California here. Well, that's no fun anymore. The membership boasts several politicians, including three presidents of the United States, industrialists, and other noted figures. One of the Grove's real founders was... This guy's name. the author of several horror stories, and the cynical Devil's Dictionary, the Grove's rituals, which have been described as falling between occult and kitsch, include frequent images of owls.
So it wasn't even like they came up with an offshoot version. They just stole the owls. Yeah, have you seen the picture? I looked it up earlier. There's a picture of the giant owl statue, and.
It's, like, really creepy. I wrote in my notes, cute owl. I mean, yeah. Owls are cool. I mean.
If you're going to sucker somebody into joining your club, why not have a giant owl? Yeah, that's like the actual 30-foot owl statue. Yeah, that's not creepy at all. Now that it's, because I read about it years ago and it was. Still like, ooh.
They had like one or two grainy photos. And now that it's got like its own Wikipedia page. I know. And you can find the address. I don't care anymore.
This isn't cool. This is just Scientology now. I know where that place is located too. I don't want to go there either. Yeah.
And apparently it's pretty lame. They just get together and do, like, plays. Yeah, that's the thing. It's not even, like, human sacrifice or anything. That's how they control the country?
Through plays? That's enough. They want to lull them into sleep? Here's a really bad play. That's why I hate everything.
Because. Hypnotize you. The secret societies are just a bunch of idiots drinking beer and... Saying, how about we raise gasoline prices? That's all it is.
Bastards. Probably not. That's pretty lame. So, would you go to this show? Were it real?
Oh, the show we just watched? Yeah. I mean, if you didn't know what was going to happen and they were like, ooh, we're going to do this spooky Halloween edition of this show that you like. If I knew it was going to be a Halloween edition, yes. Because what I saw in this show and the clips that they were talking about and how Carson was ahead of them in the ratings, I probably would have just watched Carson.
I mean, Carson was pretty good. Although after the... chair thing with Lily. Would you have been like, well, time to go. Yeah, that's what I would be like. Okay.
I'm not going to stay here. Just a couple more years and Letterman will be on. It's fine. You wouldn't have left after the projectile vomit of the black ichor from Christmas. I mean, that guy left, so you're not going to get hit with it anymore.
As long as you don't get hit with black goo, it's fine. Yeah, that's true. You know, in movies like this, they never comment on the smell of the vomit. And regular vomit stinks. I'm sure we've all been around.
I don't like it. Vomit, yeah. I'm getting queasy talking about it. Yeah, you're right. I bet that.
The black goo vomit has to stink. Maybe. Black licorice smell, maybe. Then I'm being bored. Wait a minute.
You've got me back. There's only one in 10 or 20 people that's on board with that, but I am one of those. I'll take it. That's how you get sucked right into the dark side there. I do love black licorice.
Satan shows up and he's just like, hey, I've got some licorice for you. That's all he has for you to eat. I'm good with that. I'm like, all right, let's make this happen. Do I get that check and some licorice?
Because I'm on board. You won me over. Yeah. Mr. Riggles.
It's another one of those that several... variations i mean your go-to is your captain howdy obviously yes but i remember and this was not even late night this was well again we get those little clips at the beginning where he looks like he's turned into geraldo so Along those lines, somewhere in the middle there, I'm guessing in the 90s, there was one that I don't know if I was actually, I feel like I watched the entirety of the episode. So I don't know if I taped it because I had a job. I didn't like hang around the house watching daytime television. It's usually got awful. And this is no exception.
I don't even remember which one it was, though. I don't remember if it was a Geraldo or. If it was who the hell it was. I'm thinking that it was Donahue. It might have been, because Donahue led the pack on that stuff.
Like, he was legitimately good at one time, and then just went, fuck it, ratings. Like, he just started doing that same garbage that everybody else did. But there was one that was, they had a girl on there, and hers was Mr. Bojangles. Oh.
I think that was. And Mr. Bojangles, like, lived inside of her, and took over and did things when she, when it came about. and she had no control and she didn't really remember but she knew it was that I'm awake but I'm not awake kind of a thing and Mr. Bojangles came along and I was just like holy shit this is. Pretty weird well according to my mom in the early 70s who.
Has been possessed by a Satan demon oh. Hang on just shut your whore mouth. I mean I I wouldn't put it past her no I wouldn't either no her sister this was the early 70s and her sister was three or four And would just sit there and have conversations through the radiator vents. Nice. Yeah, like one side of conversations.
And people would be like, who are you talking to? And her response was, I'm talking to Mr. Mop. So this Mr. thing is... It's a thing.
There's something to it. It's a thing. What? Okay, a ghost watch. Well, they would be like, who's Mr.
Mop? And she'd be like, well, he's my friend. He's dead. He lives down there. Oh, okay.
Was she talking to the furnace? Because then we're back to Black Coat's daughter. Yeah. And then just hang out and talk to the furnace. It's fine.
Well, in Ghostwatch, the ghost is Mr. Pipes, and they call him that because he talks to them through the clinking in the water pipes. Everyone's insane. How about that? That's just the Brits being silly.
Like, this is too coincidental. I don't know. I don't think I ever talked to... I'm trying to think if my nieces were ever creepy and talked to ghosts. I'm sure they are.
Kids are creepy. It's a given. But what does a demon have to do to rise to the ranks of captain above mister? Yeah, I mean, is that the thing? The rest of them are all just mister, but he actually entered into some sort of demon military unit and became captain.
Well, that would make you, in the British Navy, mister would make you the first mate. Swabby. Nobody wants to be Swabby Demon. Mr. Mop.
Mr. Mop gets to work. Clean up. There's a lot of black goo. Somebody coughed up over there.
Clean that shit up. I just want to know where is the female representation of the demon? Why is it on Mr. It's the 70s, so she would have been like, uh, Miz. That's Mizg.
It's a parallel. There's only male demons and there's only men allowed at Bohemian Grove. Aha! The women are there to die. Because that is the weird, again, real world part of it.
If you go back, it's like they, where were the breakdowns on the years? The footage they're showing of him or when he got involved in that was 1969. The wife dies in 1976. Yes. The folklore thing says if you make a deal with the devil, you get seven years.
And then he comes to collect. They thought of everything. They really kind of, like, more than I expected. For something that you're just watching a thing live going on, you wouldn't think they'd be able to insert all these details in there. But they kind of do.
Like, it's really well done. I like that. I remember after I watched it the first time, people were saying that you could spot the wife in the background. Yeah, I kept looking this time, too, because I saw that. I mean, you definitely see in the very obvious ones, but supposedly there's several other inserts along the way that must be super quick, because it's not real obvious.
I missed them. I wasn't watching it for it. I was watching 4.1 in particular, and I didn't see it. I was watching it for the glitches, because every time it glitched, something would happen. Then it's just Fight Club.
Yeah. And it's just Brad Pitt doing creepy things and showing porn. Work some porn in here. Come on now. It is fun how they also mess with the aspect ratio at different points.
Like when it's the TV camera. Oh, and then like the behind the scenes. Because you have the guy wandering around with the regular camera because you see him run away at one point. But he had like a shoulder cam that he's doing like the black and white footage versus the studio cam. So yeah.
I mean, yeah. You can tell that this movie was made by people who really like horror. And know a lot about it. And know the format. Yeah, that's the thing.
I was like, it really structured. So much so, maybe the thing I was most impressed with was the going to commercial cards. Because I've always been fascinated. Because, like, again, Tonight Show had a version of those, but they were pretty generic. But you get to, like, late night.
Like, Letterman's were awesome. epic and like weird and ridiculous but there were always new ones conan's like pretty good and then that's what i was gonna say and then the next phase was then conan did it and he did kind of that same thing they were just as weird as letterman's but totally different but there were always new ones like it's not like you saw the same ones every week like maybe later you get one back but it'd be like a month or two down the line you might get a repeat for the most part every night of the week every time they went to a commercial it was a different artwork and And I'm like, I was fascinated that they had that. It was different every time. It was like, it was that attention to detail.
I was like, these dorks also know late night television and that's impressive. So yeah, just for the late night accuracies, I'm on board with this. The band was rocking. Yeah. They were very relaxed.
I guess that was the seventies aspect because you start out, they're all still wearing suits and stuff. So by the time you get the, again, Letterman, they're just like, ah, just show You guys know what to do. Well, unfortunately, Miss Cleo something, who was supposed to perform. Yeah, we never got bumped. I know.
What a job that would be, though. Like, I got a job in this movie. I'm in a window that pops up on a TV show that doesn't exist, and I don't perform. So, I'm in the movie. Yeah.
I still got paid. I was just like, wow, for you, the character, and the actress. But I mean, it's kind of fitting because since she got bumped from the show, she may as well get bumped from the movie. I think you do get paid either way. So even if you get bumped, you still get your check.
That's the best acting job. You don't have to do anything. But being on there, just the second you look, look, there I am. There I am. I survived.
I'm not a non-dead one. Just me and David hanging out for the sequel. I just wonder if that character five years later at concert, she's about to perform the song. she would have performed that night and she'd been like, I almost did this and I would have been killed. No, I think it would have to be like super serious. She'd come out like one spotlight.
She'd be like, it was five years ago tonight. I was going to do this very song. And then she just kind of, that's how you bring in the audience. You really work up that angle. And I think she could ride that for years.
I do want that now though. I want to come back in like five years. And then he's in an asylum somewhere for having stabbed a 13-year-old girl on potentially television, on tape at least. I'm very curious as to what happened after that. And then she's the only other one, so she comes to visit him in the asylum.
She's like, I still didn't get to do my song. You said you'd have me back at a later date. Carson won't call me back. This is terrible. Dude, that's our only people left for the sequel.
That would be a fun sequel. I'd watch that. Why Mr. Riggles? I get, like, why, but, like...
Well, you have, like, the overall god, Satan, as Abraxas, right? Abraxas sounds menacing, foreign, or whatever. And then you have Mr. Pipes, which is like... Well, Mr.
Riggles, in this case, is talking to a young kid, so. Well, I guess so. I mean, I know I'd rather have, like. Mr. Yo-Yo as opposed to Satan.
I can't even think. Satan's played out at this point. They're fun, but they're also just menacing enough. Captain Howdy is creepy. There's something about that to.
A child that you're like, ooh, no. That's how you know Dee Snider is awesome because he told us to stay away from Captain Howdy. The real hero of the story is Dee Snider. It's always Dee Snider. Dee Snider.
But also she, like, presumably at least had been living with the cult of Abraxas. For some time. So, like, you already know who that is. It's like, it's a lesser demon. It's just like, and they just never wrote that down?
I mean, he's just leading you there anyway, right? Once you come on board with the lesser demon, it's like a pyramid scheme. You know, then you got to get up to the next guy. And, like, eventually maybe you'll be Grand Poobah, but that's years and years from now. Yeah.
It's a long way to get to that station. Again, maybe there's hierarchy. Maybe there's an Admiral Jimmy somewhere. You got to get higher levels and status in this structured demon world. Demon community college to get to middle management.
Admiral Jimmy. Admiral Jimmy coming at you. General Slippin' Slide. Also, I don't know how anyone could look at her and not be like, oh, this is not good. Points to that little girl.
Are you talking about free possession? Either way. As soon as she comes on. Yeah, that's what I meant. Yeah.
They're like, oh, she's so cute. And I'm like, really? I mean, yes, that's why it works. Like she seems just cute enough that you're like, oh. Nothing seems innocent.
It changes halfway in. I'm like, she's, no way, something. Like the way she's just staring at the camera immediately. I'm like, oh, that's not good. She's not possessed at all.
What are you talking about? Guardian lady, you should be like, maybe next Halloween we need to do some more work. Yeah, what's up with that? Oh, my God. The worst.
I know. June. June. Why are you saying you think Jack's handsome? Like, what is that?
That's just ammo. That's demon ammo. Yeah, don't tell the girl that. Yeah, seriously. Well, that was one of those, again, super subtlety.
Because, like, I'm watching it that first time, and I'm like, I'm assuming they're involved? Because... they are really close. Yeah. When they go back, because he's relatively close with the producer guy. Everybody else, I watched it this time, and he's like, he's a pretty good foot away from everybody having a conversation.
They're really close to each other. Oh, yeah. I'm like, this is, I'm assuming a subtle, hey, guess what's going on here? Yeah. Because that's what was going on.
So I was like, well, see, other than the weird producer, which again, he's sort of in bed with in his own weird way. So yeah, it's like their little dynamic is kind of interesting too, that he just keeps sort of egging them on and keeping everybody out of the way. So, yeah. I'm just like, what do your dates look like? Because who's going to be the babysitter to that child so you.
Can go out to Applebee's? Are you saying you're signing up? Volunteering for that one. I'm a good babysitter, but no thank you. I want to watch Lily.
She seems fun. I feel like you'd have no problem watching a possessed child that you knew was possessed. Just be like, stop it. Flinging holy water. Stop flinging.
Get over here. Turning off the TV. You don't stop levitating. Ingrid is her name. She's pretty damn impressive, I have to say.
Who, June or the girl? No, the little girl. Ingrid Torelli? Yeah, she's a creepy little. She's impressively creepy.
Trying to see what else she has been in. Let's see. Stuff I don't know. Bloom TV series. Five Bedrooms TV series.
South Jersey Horror Podcast? Wait a minute. We got to invite her on. All right. Well, there you go.
If she did South Jersey, she can do ours. Come on, you crazy demon child. Come on the show. But yeah, she is really good because it's not just the, it's like it's the little sort of weird version of her at the beginning before the possession, after the whole display, and then just her like, like everything is different after that. Like she's constantly looking at the camera.
She's kind of like, by the time worms are spilling out of him and she's laughing. Yeah. She's just like, you guys are being so silly. I was just like, because she doesn't see anything, because she's not easily susceptible, because there's a demon living inside of her. So they are just being silly.
Yeah. None of this is really happening. But if you want to see something happen, hang on a minute. I got you guys covered. Yeah.
So yeah, I think she's pretty impressive. Commanding the whole rest of that movie. You've got way more notes. What do you got? I hate when these movies are good because we don't.
Have anything to talk about. Well, I will say that I wrote one of my favorite quotes in this movie was from Leo, right? Leo the producer. Whenever Christo was first like, I got psychic attacked or whatever, and I had to sit down. And they cut to commercially.
Leo comes out and he's like, hey man, you look like you could use a bourbon. And he's like, no, just water. He's like, water? In this place? I'll see what I can do.
Yeah, and he just never gets water, right? I don't think he ever got that water. He did. He died. Did he get it?
Eventually, right before he keeled over. Right. But yeah, he died. Well, again, there's a very Kreskin thing. Like, everybody is almost like a direct contact, one step over from a real world person of like, He was a late night sensation.
He went on and would do his goofy bits and like people totally bought into him for years, even though that's the kind of stuff that Randy was out to bust. Oh yeah. That whole thing with a cold reading or whatever that Christos did. What was the guy's name? Crossing over with John.
Oh yeah. Yeah. John Edwards. I know it wasn't actually John Stamos. I would watch John Stamos.
He's on the yogurt. Yeah. That's what all the celebrities do when they get old. They're like, oh, I've got to digest this shit. John Edward.
John Edward. Is he alive? Ghost killed him. I hope not. Yeah.
Demon possession. Yes, he is still alive. What's that one my mom likes? The Long Island Medium. Miss Cleo?
Yes, Long Island Medium. Did she call Miss Cleo? No, she didn't. Damn it. If anyone did, I kind of figured she would.
She wasn't going to pay the. No, I figured then I can just picture your dad getting the bill being, what the hell is this? No, they would have just blamed it on me. That's true. And everybody would have bought it.
I would have been like, I understand, but I didn't. I agree. I would have blamed it on me too, but it sucks. Right. It does seem like something I would have done, but I didn't this time.
Are you looking up things about John Edward? I am. Because his daughter is now an actress. She's like 17. Anyway.
Anyway. Not important. That was the vibe. I do, again, of the other weird little ridiculous tie-ins of how relatively tight this is for a movie that's not really story-based officially on a normal plane of existence. The fact that they, for each of the people, were kind of setting up what was going to happen.
So much so that early on with the Randy guy, he says he's all wax no wick. he gets burnt and right before it happens the the sidekick guy's like hey my wife likes my head right on yeah and he gets snapped his head gets spun right. Around so what about june then. June gets her throat slit yeah i mean she's holding that necklace out the whole time so she's just kind of asking for it really yeah but there's probably a line there too really probably Like everybody gets sort of taken out, but they're planting those seeds along the way. I'd be like, Oh yeah, guess what? That is what I was hoping, like going into it the first time.
And like, I do like the way we ease into this, that it is just present. Once you get past the little prologue, like we just come onto the TV show and that's what we're watching. And it's, weird and awkward but it's like it's still doing kind of normal things till you get to projectile vomiting and even then it's like people do that like you hear weird stories like weird things happen in the world so it's like all right that was gross but still it's just kind of edging its way along there and it like slowly builds even at the point of like the fact that the demon possession levitation isn't the finale it's the midway point where things kind of start to get real So, yeah, it's like the fact that that's right in the middle, like it's still building from there.
And I was like, I hope because I was really like I was enjoying it so much that I was like, don't just get to the end and cut the static and piss me off because nothing happens. If we're going this slow edging our way into something big happening, I want a bloodbath. I don't want everybody on stage murdered and damned if they didn't come through for me. So I was like, yes. So I am very glad that they didn't like just sort of half-ass it and like, cause there's so many of those that are like, especially like more of your up and coming filmmakers because then it's also like, ooh, it was my creative way to end it.
You're like, Or it's the cheap way to end it and it makes it suggestive. But really, you just didn't have to shoot anything. So I'm like, this one, they shot crazy over-the-top deaths and possession and the head splitting open and I kind of loved all of it. It's so much fun. And then you get the weird psychological.
We hit our 2001, 2010 gonna talk to a space child. Because the bed thing kind of reminded me of the crazy old footage you know like when it cuts away those are my favorite and i mean that i don't mean that at all uh my least favorite part of every space movie at some point has to become psychological and go off on some weird tangent in somebody's brain and so we get that in 2001 and they come back to it in 2010 and it's like it felt like that almost but at least this one was grounded like it's this was the real thing like we just saw it's not out of left field it's like It actually is tied to the plot, so I don't mind it. In fact, I kind of liked it. Again, I was afraid it was still going to end right there, and I'm like, but I kind of want to see what else is going on here.
Especially when it comes back around, and not only is he having the dream sequence where he's stabbing his wife, but he actually stabbed a girl as they're filming it for television. So am I correct in understanding that when Jack went to Bohemian Grove, he wanted to be the biggest TV star? And that's the, okay. I think so, yeah. Again, they really don't spell any of that, which I sort of like, too.
Like, they give you all the pieces, but they're like, we're not gonna give you everything. They're just like, here's all the things. Here's probably what happened. So, guess who's dead now? Like, he's gonna be the biggest star in the world after this.
Everybody's gonna be talking about him. That is very true. They did call that out. Mm-hmm. I wonder if it's supposed to be like the vengeful ghost of his wife or if it's like the demon taking the form of his wife just to torture him even more.
I felt like it was more of that. Like they really did seem like they were playing up the, we're going to use this image that is just the most horrifying thing you've seen in your life. And we're just going to, that's going to be our representation. We're going to keep coming back with this. I do think the wife really was trying to protect him.
And like they genuinely seem like they loved it what little it's all of them together like i don't feel like that was fake but he was still willing to put her like i don't know how much it was on paper this is what's gonna happen yeah you have to know when you're entering into that group and willing to do whatever to be successful you're putting her at risk and he did that yeah so yeah she would have a little reason to be pissed but i do feel like they do they did at least have a genuine relationship. She seemed pretty understanding about it, actually. Even towards the end there, she's just like, well, I'm dying now. What are you doing, man? Yeah.
I hope you get good ratings on this because I'll be dead in a week. Let's make this work. Come on now. Congratulations on your TV show. Good going.
I'd be so mad at you if you sold your soul to my life. Sold our soul to. Be a really good lawyer. Well, based on this, they don't really care. Who can I take?
You would sign it with me though, right? What? What? Like a joint agreement? Is there a joint application?
To sacrifice myself so you could. Be a lawyer? No, no. We could be. No, no.
That'd be so lame. But a fancy TV lawyer. A lawyer actor. We could have those cool commercials. I would sacrifice you to become Judge Judy.
You know, I would too. I'm not even married to her. There you go, honey. They're like, we're going to take your friend Nora. I'm like, well, but I get it to be on TV, right?
I mean, you don't really even have to be involved in the law. They let Steve Harvey have a judge show, and he doesn't have anything to do with anything. Oh, what? They let Gary Busey have that damn judge show. Yeah, he does animal arbitration.
What? Really, you don't have to do any training. Gary, you see, Pet Judge is, I believe, what it's called. Oh, my God. Basically, just sell your soul to the devil.
He'll give you whatever you want. Well, Gary, he absolutely has sold his soul to the devil. If so, he went about it all wrong. He didn't sell it for that much, though. went about it the wrong way. But it's one of those like oh what's the like monkey's paw things right like everything that you ask for they give you the worst version of.
That's now what was i just watching because i was just sitting i used that as my example oh is this monkey pollen like we just got monkey paw like so yeah i assumed whatever the hell i was just watching was gonna do that yeah yeah i assume that with most things now like oh it was the one that was on it was actually on singly But it was one I hadn't seen. It was some sort of weird 70s made-for-TV movie that was like Trilogy of Terror, but came afterwards. And there's one where she uses some sort of witchcraft thing to bring her child back, and he don't come back right. But yeah, watching that, I was like, I think we just got monkey-pawed on this one. I think great title for a movie, He Don't Come Back Right.
He Don't Come Back Right. It only plays well in the South. Sure. That's what we're going for. We're going for the old school days where you just picked a market.
We're just drive-ins and grindhouse right in this general vicinity of the country and make all our money. The North, the East, the West, they can have their whatever they. Want. Fancy Johnny Carsons and whatnot. They can have their high real estate prices.
And their good health outcomes. And their full sets of teeth. Yeah. Wait, how's that work? Hold on.
We have Grindhouse. Yeah. We have Gary Busey Pet Judge. This is all coming together, actually. Now that I think about it.
We might be in some sort of demon realm right now, actually. I'm pretty sure we have been. Yeah, I'm pretty sure. Ever since we turned on the Hadron Collider. Well, that could explain a lot.
Well, somebody, I saw a meme about that the other day, and I was like, I can't even argue with this. Because it's like, all of their things made the list of, like, This happened, this happened, this happened, and it all happened after they turned this on. That's what I think a lot of what goes on now. It's like when I think, again, dork watching movies and whatnot, so many years and years of future-looking things that were almost satirically making fun of how things are going to be. We are so far beyond the bullshit that they came up with.
I was like, you guys had no idea what you were talking about. You can't make fun of things that are as ridiculous as the real world that we live in. So, demon dimension. I think that's where we are. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Poor Gus, man. Yeah, Gus didn't do anything. He just, he tried to, he got pooped on the whole movie.
It's the sidekick's life, man. You're Ed McMahon's, you're, what was Conan? Andy Rink. Andy. I love Andy.
I still see him on stuff now, but I think that was your whole gig forever. Like, he just showed up and was like, yeah yeah he just because that's why i thought it was interesting with paul shaffer at least he had a job like he was still the sidekick but he had work to do the whole night like whereas like your ed and andy like they were just they just sat there on the couch like it seemed like the worst job it's like every once in a while especially andy because he's funny he'd get a good line in there but ed just he was just dead weight man like no offense he seemed like a nice enough guy but like didn't bring anything to the show he just like laughed at old Johnny's jokes and I was like this is really your whole life like it's sad but at least Andy had some good one-liners every once in a while but he still had nothing to do he just had to sit on a couch all day and like yeah sidekick it's a weird.
Job Gus played the theremin. I do love anything with a theremin. I was going to say, I think I have a theremin here somewhere. How do you not be sure? Can we play with it right now?
I think it's down in the basement. It's probably in the basement. Unless it was a wedding gift that you just never took out of the box. Which, first of all, what's the box look like on the theremin? Because I kind of want to see that, too.
I just, I don't know. I assume it's just, I'm holding my hands up for you guys. It's very annoying. You're obviously not playing it right alright. Alright one moment if I can't see it if I can't see it immediately then.
We'll have to wait while he's going to go get murdered in the basement if you're also while we're discussing awesome documentaries while we're discussing awesome documentaries the theremin documentary is badass by. The way there's a documentary about theremin oh yeah He. Was ridiculously smart and ahead of his time, but like most people that are crazy, super smart inventors, out of his mind on some level. Insane genius. Yeah, yeah.
Mad scientist. He is the running gag that is all of these guys, except Edison, because he just stole everything. Jerk. Asshole. I'm a Tesla man.
I'm sorry. That's a crazy genius. He came up with all kinds of stuff. I ran pelts myself. What else did he come up with?
Billy's dad from Gremlins. I mean, if you like toothpaste squirted on you, he's got a thing for you. He's a gadget man. But he's got personality. He's a very.
Are we talking about Tesla or Hoyt Exton at this point? No, Hoyt. Tesla, I feel like that was the problem. That was the difference. Like, he was a super genius and would come up with ideas, didn't know how to interact with people, didn't know how to put in paperwork.
Edison, on the other hand, knew how to employ a bunch of other people to do his shit, knew how to fill out the paperwork and stole all his ideas. Oh. Ladies and gentlemen, I have no idea where the theremin is. Damn it! It's probably in the office or something.
I don't know. How did we lose the theremin? There's the quote of the episode. How did you lose them? You guys are making me have so many questions about theremins.
I'll find it. And it's not practical questions like how do they work, but it's things like how do you forget you have one? How do you lose it? Years ago, a friend of mine in Japan gave it to me. Because, like, he thought I was kind of weird hippie guy.
I mean, you're weird. We are. Right. And, like, well, now he gave me this theremin. And it's, like, I don't know.
It's really small. It doesn't take much because it's not physically a thing so much. Yeah, it's fun. It comes with, like, a little stick you can turn a dial. It's very old school looking.
It does have some, like, arms sticking off of it. So maybe you're hanging coats on it in the other room and you just don't even know it. It's like, oh, yeah, there it is. This is miniature. Okay, you remember, like, old, like, RC cars back in the day where the antenna is just like you could kind of just bend it in half and it's done forever.
It's like that. It sounds awesome. You're just selling me more. I'll find it. I'll find it and I'll send it with Nora.
I feel like Nora's less worried about it than Brian. Well, we're definitely making her play it then. Yes, I'll teach you. We also have the music note thing. I need to put new batteries in the music note thing.
What's the music note thing? It's like a theremin. What a ripoff. This is the Edison invention. What can I scam someone and steal their stuff?
I did find that one down there, but I tried to play it. You can open its mouth and it's like. And then it has a little, like. I'll go grab it. I'll go grab it.
This is really easy. Well, not if the batteries are dead. You're just gonna. He's just teasing us now. The Nora and Pierce tour of weird musical instruments in our house.
We have a few. His mom, for his birthday, I think, got him, like, a steel drum. Oh, yeah. But it's huge and really inconvenient. I can see that being.
More along his lines than the theremin, really. I have seen one of those, actually. I want this to go away. I have seen one of those. It's the disturbing pastel color palette.
There's a great YouTube video of somebody playing Bring Me to Life by Evanescence. It's the Muppety face that should win you over, really. I love it. It's very Muppety. It's so cute.
Well, I think it's the way that Pierce has to squeeze its head. Yeah, that's what he does to Nelson, too. This is also true. Where are you? Hey, buddy.
Yeah, he's fine. Nelson, did you like the movie? He's like, I'm possessed by a demon. Screw you guys. I like the popcorn you guys kept drinking.
But yes, poor Gus. Poor Gus. Sorry, guy. There you go. All he was doing was trying to be nice.
Shut up and do your job. I think that's what they told him. And you see what happened. Do as you're told is the exact quote. I mean, that producer guy seems pretty accurate, actually.
Like, he got shit done. He was not likable. He was not good to be around. But everything kept happening because he said, shut up and do that, shut up and do that. It didn't. confirmed dead?
Or was he alive? I mean, we didn't really see him get killed, so he might have run out of the building. So he's the actual hero of the story. Well, since he made everything happen, maybe not. He's the instigator of this story.
Shut up and go do that thing so we can get more ratings. Have we hit all our points on this? I don't know, probably. Again, most of the movies we've been watching lately, I have hated and hated you guys for making me watch them. That's really what we're here for.
Because I remember that last movie, I just went off. And yet you still enjoyed it. Yeah, you liked that one more than the last couple. Well, I was having a thing. Well, that's just life at this point.
I live in that thing now. Having a thing. I don't like it. No, I actually enjoyed this movie, and I don't feel like I need to talk to you guys about it. You were there.
You saw it. Nope. I don't know what you're talking about. We didn't watch a movie. We just stared blankly at the screen for an hour and a half.
What are you talking about? I do have one thing I would like to say. I don't know, and this show has taught me, that I don't really know the practical how hypnotism works. Because the little swirly thing on the screen seemed like something out of Scooby-Doo. Right?
That is the classic. Which makes it awesome. Right. So do y'all know how hypnotism works? And was it accurate?
I don't know enough to say. It must have worked because I saw the worms come out of the guy. See, I was thinking that when I watched it that first time. I was like, well, we all got hypnotized because I'm guessing you guys saw the worms too, so... It's true.
It worked on us. I mean, I... Do you. Okay. I do.
I mean, I saw hypnotism. It is a thing that people totally... do and other people buy into so it is a working system one way or the other whether it's real or not i don't fully know i do know someone that they were they may be listening if you're listening i need to get the story from you because they were involved with someone who did hypnotism and i want to know if it's real i want to know their side of being With someone who was a hypnotist. We have. How much of the real story can you tell me of what was going on in this? Because they did it like for a job.
What I will say is I went to see a hypnotist one time and he told us, he said, look, some of the more susceptible people in the audience that don't get called up, you may look over and they may be doing some of the stuff that people on stage are doing. And I'm like, okay, whatever. Well, at one point he's got all these people on stage. And they're supposed to be conducting an orchestra. And my date like elbows me in the ribs and points to her friend that we were there with.
And she was sitting in her seat with her head like to her side but conducting the orchestra. So there must be something to it. So you came with her. She wasn't a plant. You actually knew this person.
I actually knew the person. She wanted to be hypnotized because she had been told about the show. And the finale was all the people that were on stage, they were instructed to have, quote unquote, the best orgasm of their entire lives. Isn't that how every show ends, actually? She knew about that part of it, and that's why she wanted to get on stage so badly.
Okay. I have so many questions. Yeah. Sounds like she just needs to get away. She did.
She did. And she would also have been the first person to. All right. Well, I mean, I'm right there with you, but I just don't have access to a hypnosis show, I suppose. Did he use like the swirly spiral thing or what?
He made a big, he made a big, point about how that's just you know that's a traditional thing but it's just all for like show i think it looks really cool yeah it looks amazing it gives it gives the audience something to see that the other people are focusing. That is kind of what was going on with the sarah squirm show she was doing a weird spinny thing on the screen behind us so we might have been hypnotized i'm sure we were i did feel like i saw gross things it wasn't worms exactly but equally if not more disturbing so i feel like. I was violated in so many ways yeah. This is what happens when you're not in control of your brain anymore well i mean i never really was you got a point anyway but it is one of those things there are so many people that do it in one way or another whether it's those people that are trying to treat it seriously and are like trying to get you to stop smoking, versus the people on stage making you have a fake orgasm.
So it's like, where did we land? This is a big range here. How much of this are we buying into? Well, this guy did both. That's weird.
That was his day job, was to get people to stop smoking, lose weight, etc., etc., But where he brought in the real money was he'd do these shows like two or three times a month. I feel like there should be some kind of code of ethics of like a hypnotist. You would think so. If you could like control people's brains. Is there at least a show out there busting them?
Is there an Amazing Randy that's out there busting just the hypnotists that are out there doing their dumb shows? Because I want to watch that. Yeah, where's that YouTube thing? I'm sure there's 28 of them out there right now. And I'll watch and go like, I don't want to see this.
This is terrible. Look at the production value on this. This is terrible. Yeah, I mean, from a brain science point of view, there's EMDR, which is a type of therapy, which is like eye movement desensitization and rapid something. Because I wrote a grant to get the equipment.
To bring into our place. When do we get our grant money, by the way? I keep asking for it. You have to be a 501c3. I am, as far as they know.
No, I have to have the paper. I've got somebody on the inside. What does the paper look like? I'll make one. We can print anything.
It's a letter from the IRS. So I just need letter IRS. IRS. Great. Remember that.
Put that at the top. Stamp that on there. But EMDR. So what it is, it's a really interesting thing. It's like this little light bar that blinks and the light.
Kind of moves back and forth. I think I bought one of those because I like the flashy lights. And I was going to use it in a fake machinery thing, which is what I like to build. There you go. And you get the person to just watch it. you know, focus on it.
And it's supposed to be really good for processing traumatic events because they'll do that and then talk about what happened. And for some reason, it, like, makes your brain, like, get over it faster. I'm not talking. To my therapist about this. It's real.
There's a lot of actual scientific. Evidence about it. There's a lot of ways that all of these things in your brain could work if you're doing them the right way. Most people are just doing them for profit. Again, where are the ethics?
How do you have somebody that's controlling this? Where's the hypnotism police? They're like, keeping track of these things. Isn't that that Cheap Trick album? I think so.
Yeah. There's a reason they're not together anymore. They're still together. After that album, they didn't want to be around each other anymore. They're still quite together.
I thought at least the one guy didn't want anything to do with it. They fired their drummer, but not really at the same time. I don't know. I don't trust any of this. no you're thinking of dream warriors dream warriors was their album with freddy on the lead vocals and yeah actually i have that freddy album by the way it's not. Very does that band with the guitar with like 800 necks on it.
He just well he had one of those too which one are we talking about freddy or cheap trick yes He has a guitar in the shape of himself. Yeah, there's the one that's legs. And then I think he does have one that's like five or six necks. He's got one that's like four on each side. What?
He's got one that's like, it is literally like six necks because he starts up here. And then by the end of the song, he's down at the. Novelty is fun and all, but that seems like more trouble than it's worth. What? So.
What have we learned from this? Don't bring your adopted demon child on to TV. How about you just don't adopt a demon child? That too. Stay away from children.
There's your first step. That takes care of things. But if you're going to, just try to keep them away from demons. Yeah. Tell them to stop talking to the pipes or the duct work.
Just tell them to quit having conversations with dead people, ghosts, random demons, or the devil himself. Yeah, all of these are bad ideas. We shouldn't date a television host, right? Well, from what we've seen, it usually doesn't go well. If you're fine with being the other woman, even though you're the married one, that's usually how it goes.
I'm not sure if it goes the other way. We'll have to check with Taylor and see. She's about the only one on late night anymore, so we'll see if she starts having like six dudes on the side, but Maybe it just happens when you become a lady. I think so. Gotta start cheating on people, that's how it goes.
And don't sell your wife's soul to the devil. Was that a collateral sale, though? You're really hung up on that. I feel like Pierce is in trouble now, and I don't think he did anything, but he's gonna be paying for it for the rest of the day? I feel like it's different.
If I sell my soul to the devil and you are collateral sale versus I sell your soul to the devil. What if he really goes over the paperwork well? Like fine-tooth comb. I would think he would. Do you read your iTunes agreement?
No. I didn't think so. No. That's the real devil right there. The devil is the iTunes.
Apple is run by Satan, right? That's why he's dead. He sold his soul to Satan. Holy shit. We pieced this together.
It's either run by or is Satan. I can't figure out. Both. After seven years, he handed it over to Satan. Well, maybe I can negotiate with him, Satan.
I figure he can find a loophole. I'd be so pissed. If you get me killed. No, no, no. He'll bring you back.
He'll bring you back. Monkey Paul style. You got monkey pawed. You're totally getting monkey pawed. I feel like we've talked about this.
It's like if you haunt me, it wouldn't really be like that big of a deal. Oh, yeah. I've said if I die before you, I'm going to haunt you. And it's just like you're quietly sitting and reading a book. In fact, it might be better because the things you're doing now are way more trouble than once you're the ghost version of you.
It's like, I can deal with that. Now if it's the other way around, it's over for you. Yeah, you'd be knocking stuff over. Playing theremin badly all day. Just be like, I just got five minutes of quiet time.
You just died. Give me some peace for God's sake. Give me like a week before you come back. All right. Well, we don't have to roll anything.
And by the way, we skipped one. So for those of you that are on the edge of your seat waiting for whatever the hell that long hair movie was that we've already forgotten the title of it. Yes. We'll get back to that. Why'd you point at me just because I forget the title of all of them?
That's true. I also pointed to her. But in general... Yeah, but you meant me. Yeah, mostly.
You were trying to. But. You're lucky to remember it when we're sitting at the table talking about it. I have no idea what we watched. Exactly.
My point is made. So we and everyone, and my other joke was no one's on the edge of their seat. No one cares. So don't worry, person that doesn't exist, worried about what our next episode is. We'll get back to that one after the holidays.
I'm assuming every year we just go into holiday break. And normally we don't know about the middle step, but since last year we had a brand new one. centered around a very specific Thanksgiving holiday? Are you up for that? I didn't hear terrible things, actually. Not that I'm thrilled with that director.
But it took me a minute. We didn't do the Thanksgiving one that came out last year. Oh, yeah, we could do that. We talked about it. But didn't we watch a Thanksgiving movie last year?
We did. But we didn't do the new one. We picked one from a million years ago like we normally do. Because normally they don't make, you know, they make Christmas movies all the damn time. They make Halloween movies all the damn time.
It's only every once in a while you get a Thanksgiving movie. Stick getting there. Yeah, I mean, we've hit them all. That's why I was like, oh, there's a new one. Good, because otherwise we're out.
You get your Thanksgiving and your Thanksgiving 3. We've seen it. We've got that other one. And Nora's still pissed off. Oh, no, I don't blame her.
Three is a crime against humanity. Did you see the Thanksgiving 3? I had to watch all of them. I don't think you finished it, though. You should.
I would have understood. It's terrible. I am usually on board with just watch whatever movie, finish it, it's fine. That is a terrible, terrible movie. There was like a modern one.
What was that one? It's like a modern Thanksgiving. Oh, I think last year we did Pilgrim. We did Pilgrim. Is that what it was called?
That's a fun one. That's from the last couple years. That one was crazy, dude. It came up in my house. Get out of here man.
That was basically the purge but with pilgrims. Historical reenactors I don't trust historical reenactors. Anyway surprisingly showing up at your house. Be like please leave that. Just taught me that if you invite pilgrims in they won't leave.
Like hippies once they get into your property man you're screwed. Namaste right here. I got rights. It's going to take months to get me out of here. So say it's the pilgrims.
So if you want, then we know what we're watching next month. So we can do that. I'm kind of curious again, because I don't have high hopes for that director in general, but I heard somewhat decent things. So I kind of want to see where they meet in the middle. So then we know what we're watching and I'm assuming we know where we're going on the next holiday.
Okay. No one's fighting it. I mean, we're in the middle of a series, for God's sake. Are we not coming back for part three? I have no idea what you're talking about.
You don't know what holiday comes after Thanksgiving? No. We do need to get you a calendar at least. Oh, Silent Night, Deadly Night. That's where we are.
We're midway into that series. Oh, there's like five at least. Yeah, there's like five in a remake maybe. I can't remember. I've been told three is better than two.
Well, two. I was kind of looking forward to two because of the horrible reputation. I was like, no, I need to see how bad this is because I had not seen that one, nor have I seen three. So I want to see what we're. Getting ourselves into i mean yeah two was something.
Two is impressive that it came out it was in theaters for god's sakes even though 45 minutes of it was reused footage from the first movie oh. I have seen that exactly yeah i. Have seen that one and it was like half holiday class weird it's just Again, mostly it's like an experiment of like, could they do this? Look, they did do this. Hobby Damned.
It's way more interesting than a good movie. Was it a success? I don't think so. But they made a three and a four. It doesn't take much to be successful enough to nudge you into, especially as we moved into straight to video world.
You could get anything made once you got straight to video. Those movies came out as home video was starting to take off. Yeah. And the first one became a big thing because of home video. Because it got shut out in the theaters because of all the protesting.
Because, oh, Santa's not supposed to kill people. What? Whiny baby. We lived in Puritan times. Exactly.
Pilgrims right there. Santa kills all the time. Really? Watch any movie. Everyone in the studio audience in the movie we just watched was cheering on seeing the devil.
So yeah. I mean, if we wanted to do that, like we just had one where Santa was killing people. Like one of the new silly ones was Santa being an asshole. Like two years ago that we could watch this year if we wanted to. And then there's another one coming out this year that's like Santa gets kidnapped and The Rock has to go save him.
I don't know. I mean, again, if you're going to set boundaries, like, why are you allowing this other nonsense to get made? But, yeah, Violent Night was the one I just thought of. That one seems like it should piss people off and nobody cared. And then now Santa gets kidnapped and Captain America and The Rock have to go find him.
And it looks pretty dumb. But, I mean, I'm not saying I'm not going to watch it. I have low standards, obviously. You guys have seen what I watched. You know, the sad thing is for years I've been working on, in my head, the treatment to a Santa Gets Kidnapped movie.
And if someone wants to give me $ 40 million to make it, because it's got some. I mean, this is what Tim Burton said one time. And then Disney showed up and went, okay, that's true. Yeah. Yeah.
Because this does have Talking Reindeer. Nice. Tommy Lee Jones is the voice of. You're going to have to hurry up on this one. Yeah, I know.
She's not getting younger. But there's AI. Anyway, if somebody was to give me $ 40 million, I've got a rad Santa Gets Kidnapped movie. Somebody get Tommy Lee Jones to talk into a thing and just say all the words. Because at this point, there are.
They have just started pitching that. There's five or six different celebrities that have gone into whichever AI group is in charge of the world now and is like, you can now get like their version of your Siri or whatever, like all of the things talking to you can be like Scarlett Johansson. Cause that's, she will be the ultimate GPS. Now that, I mean, who doesn't, who doesn't want to get on board with Snoop? Like you can't.
When did he become America's sweetheart? He really kind of is like, he just, you can't fight it. Like when I was in high school, he was hated by parents and now he's, He's at the Olympics. He's adorable. He's adorable.
He's like an animated character, but he's just an old stoner dude now. And you're just like, oh, look at him. He's adorable. My dad should not give a shit about Snoop Dogg or Martha Stewart. But you put the two of them together, and he's happy.
Who's done more time? It ain't Snoop. One's an actual fellow. It ain't Snoop. It's not the one involved with Death Row Records.
It's the other one. By the way, he now owns that. I don't think I realized that. Good for him. Yeah.
He's on the boys pitching that. He's like, I started there. I got signed on to it. Now I own it. That is impressive.
It is. I'm more impressed by the stuff that he coaches his grandson's football team. Yeah. He talks about being a girl dad. He's so involved with his daughters that I'm like, this is why people have to love you.
He can't fight Snoop. I mean. That's the horror movie we need to make. You can't fight Snoop Dogg. He actually has a Snoop Dogg's hood of horror that I watched when I was in high school.
That's true. We should work that in somewhere down the line. Yeah, we'll put that on the list. Somebody put that on the list. So, Tales from the Hood?
Is that what it is, or is that different? That's an iced tea on that one. So, of your rap horror movies, there are several. There's a lot, actually. There's several.
They did other Tales from the Hood later. There was the main one, but then they did one that was straight to screaming. Yeah. Yeah. So, it's a market.
Updated Tales from the Hood. I think they're like just... Yeah, just. Like a year or two ago. There's another one, yeah.
They keep making them. Why am I thinking these were all in the 90s? They started there. They feel like they should be. Which makes me think maybe this experiment won't work.
But, you know, we can put it on the list. What do we know? Yeah. All right. I think we've covered most things.
I think we stopped talking about the movie like a half hour ago. I know, but it's a Halloween party, so we got a lot of things to talk about. I'm all hopped up on candy. I know. I'm going to eat one of those green Snickers, and it's all going to be a real party now.
Anything else? The green Snickers are no longer frozen. Well, I got a freezer. I'm just kidnapping your Snickers. Please do.
I just wanted to say thank you for letting me come on and invade your show. I'm glad you were here. You have survived is what you're saying? You're okay? No, it was a really great time.
And if y'all ever want to do it again, I'm happy to join. And if not, I know that like... I'll be seeing y'all in the near future anyways. That was Pierce and Nora high-fiving, not someone smacking. Nora smacked him and said, shut up.
I'll tell you when you can be on the show. I can't wait to come back. You'll be on when I tell you. You'll wait to come back. You can call me Gus.
You'll be my Gus. Oh, your neck's going to get broken. Well, that's the thing. I think we enjoy having you on, but it could be a little too much time for you, so you can make that call. You can come on any time.
Or we just get rid of Nora. Well, maybe you just switch us out. Yeah, we'll be interchangeable. Tag team. Tag me in.
So if I'm ever like, I just want to stay home and take a nap, you go. No, we're just coming over here to the couch where you'll be napping. That's true. Not the first time you've laid over there and podcasted. It's record on top.
I think that's a different podcast. But would probably be successful. But thanks, guys. It was a really good time. You can get roped in as often as you're up for it.
I think that's the key. When are you really up for it? Sooner or later, most people come to their senses. You're like, yeah, I got things to do. Duped.
I think he's been duped. All right. Well, otherwise, that about does it. We will return next time. Same geek feed.
Thanks for listening. Bye. Bye, everybody. Bye. Happy Halloween.
Happy Halloween. Speak of the devil, he's no wind of mine. The time from him is when we go. To hell. There's a better way We are here to win.
You Thank you. Look how offensive that gourd is. That is inappropriate. It looks like Nessie back there, but when you pull it out, it's just like you. This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and edited by the Auditude Studios, with the opening music performed by the Empires.
