What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian, and on this exclusive Horror Club episode, we head back to the Bastion to discuss a new horror movie, and in true Meltdown fashion. And since we are specifically jumping into the young adult horror novel turned into film world, who better to assess the situation than our resident YA horror enthusiast, Misty. And yes, she has plenty to say about how this movie fits into the YA horror world. Or doesn't.

And of course, as per usual, that also means Jay gets roped into it. Which is awesome because as you probably know, he always has his own special take on things. Plus, we usually get each other off track with some sort of ridiculous story. So if you're not already a member, obviously, now is the time to join the Meltdown Horror Club, where you'll get to hear us say awesome things like this. One of the most, let's say, one of the most famous horror movies?

I would say. It's one of those that even normal people who don't like horror movies probably have seen. If not, they know about it, they know all the references, so... It's certainly one of the most widely known horror movies. It was one of the big ones when I was a kid.

But yeah, I was so upset that they didn't do more with her in the long run. And they went back to doing the most conventional version of the wrap up that we've seen three times over already. We found a podcast where somebody talks to our neighbor. In jail. So I was going to say in prison now.

You might if you're not listening for years and years and years. We've brought this up on the show a long time ago, but yes, across the street right over there, you can't see me pointing to it, is the house where a serial killer lived. He cut our yard. He used to cut the grass, and he talked to Jay. Worked on motorcycles with boyfriend in our garage, helping with cars.

And Misty was creeped out by him, even then. No, no, no, only once. Your spidey sense was tingling. Just the one fresh in the garage. One in the garage, one in the yard.

Which, according to the details in the podcasts, The reason why the old lady in the garage became a victim. Yeah, I remember them dragging the river right after they arrested him. Yeah, but we didn't know why. They weren't pretty sure the guy who left all that stuff behind murdered a bunch of people. Nice.

Licenses. Several, several driver's licenses. You didn't at least take pictures of these so you could try to Google them or something? I was helping somebody else and they were trying to hurry up and get everything cleared out of there because... It was their locker and they had to get everything out and move on and do other stuff and whatever.

I just claimed the good stuff he left behind. That's where I got that bitchin' knife from. Which has probably murdered at least several women. It was mostly women's driver's license. There was also a jar full of teeth.

And you didn't keep those? At first we shall discuss it as a movie. A dumb, fun slasher movie. And then I'll discuss it as a Fear Street movie. I'm sure that The book reading network all knew all about it.

But for regular, you know, just movie dorks, I don't remember. Us Instagrammers who follow all the things Fear Street and R.L. Stine related, we knew this was coming. And a lot of us had our kind of questions. All right.

And when I first watched the movie, I was. Those individual scenes are still masterfully done. damn, he knows how to shoot horror scenes. Like, everything else within those little individual scenes works so well that I'm just, yeah, I'm impressed with it on that level. And that's what I wanted to address, at least, going into it, was, like, I didn't have any of that, as constantly mentioned on this show, I don't read anything. So, like, I didn't have any.

I lived these books. I know. So, I mean, that puts it in a totally different perspective, because I had no. I was literally in elementary school. Waiting for that little piece of paper they bring you, the little order form.

The scholastic book club, whatever. Oh, and don't even get me started on the goddamn book fair. When the book fair would come and set up in the library, do you know how many chores I had to do around the house, scraping up nickels and dimes, so that I could have my jingle jangles going when I'd go to the goddamn book fair? Again, the 90s is that era when the geeks started to find each other, because... Suddenly we had, yeah, we had internet.

We had chat rooms. That everybody sat in. But they weren't like most of the ones, I mean, maybe this is, you know, maybe that's a different dimension. What's the shortcut? What's her name?

Is it somebody's shortcut? Frisbee? I have no idea what you're talking about. Anyway, there's one that's the shortcut that Whoever this character is finds a way to travel faster than the crow flies on these roads. This is Todd's shortcut?

That sounds like a thing. Never heard of it. So it is over the top. It didn't feel 90s to me at all. At all.

The movie or the use of the song? The movie. The movie didn't seem 90s to me at all. What did you say to me right after we watched it? I didn't see a goddamn choker in the whole fucking movie.

That was uncomfortable. I know. That needed a trigger warning. Yeah. I felt dirty after that.

I think everybody did. Me and boyfriend were sitting down and I'm like, what are the chances that something that you're so passionate about and that I'm so passionate about are coming out so close together? That guy's an Asian. Dude, you don't know the fist fights. That were had over that figure in the aisles of Toys R Us.

The running to hopefully grab the last Snake Eyes. Because they didn't put a lot of them on the shelves. Barbecue, you know. The Enemy, Snowjob. Yeah, you could find him.

There's a whole bunch of them. But at least you had merchandise. Fear Street had books and that was it. At least if you got Goosebumps, you had board games, you had t-shirts, you had fucking toys, you had everything. You had trading cards.

Fear Street had nothing. I had to make my own goddamn Fear Street trading cards. And I did, goddammit. And I laminated them all. He was supposed to have survived the TV to the head.

Because his character, you can see him at the party in the second movie. But I'm like, this is kind of how teenagers talk. I hate to talk. I certainly was like that. Not like I've gotten much better now.

I got to start off by saying how much I love, was it Maya? Maya Hawk? I think it's Maya Hawk. Love her. You know what would have made her four fucking awesome?

If she'd have been wearing a fucking choker, because that would have been more fucking right. See, there we go. She could have been wearing a choker. She has the neck for it. It would have looked good on her.

She has a nice little skinny neck, a little velvet choker, or the little plastic ones with the little design. You know what I'm talking about? Yeah, I know what you're talking about. That was my next thing. First of all, we get the mall, which, as you know, I spent a little more time in the mall than normal humans should.

So yeah, I was looking, because when they look around, we got. Was Sbarro's there? Because I... You have no idea how many times I have a hankering for Sbarro's. I want a pizza flipped over on top of another pizza.

And we decided to go check it out. And being dorks that we are, we also had a video camera... This was cutting edge of technology. I'd saved up so much money and got my tax return back from working. Was it massive?

Oh, yeah. It's a full-size VHS. It took the VHS cassettes. It was the RCA model and had a full pop-out. Shove the tape in there, start your recording.

So we decided to take our camera and go in there and go exploring. Are you okay with them trying to do any? Do you think they'll ever actually be successful in... in your mind, at trying to do a version of either Fear Street or our Ulstein other projects. Now, as I said, if you join up and become a Melkiteer, not only will you get to hear this episode in its entirety, but you'll also get to hear all of the upcoming episodes, including the next two movies in this horror trilogy. It is a very interesting series, and of course, we have a lot to say about it.
