What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown. Well, at least a snippet of the Meltdown, so to speak. So in the full Horror Club episode, we get into a lengthy discussion of ghosts and monsters and immigrant horror stories. Among other things. And one of those other things is going to be the focus of our promo here.

You see, before we get into the full movie discussion, I started telling the rest of the crew about how I recently re-watched the Scream movies. And how, along the way... something occurred to me that I hadn't thought about before. Maybe it has occurred to you. It probably depends how many times you've watched them. But either way, if you're a movie fan, and especially if you're a horror fan, I would think you'd enjoy this little piece of our conversation.

Oh yeah, and I'll tell you now, spoilers for all the Scream movies. I mean, I say it in the episode, but I didn't actually remember until we're about three potentially spoiled movies in. So, just heads up now, I'm telling you from the get-go, spoilers for the Screams. But I'm assuming if you're interested in the Meltdown Horror Club, you've already. Seen the whole franchise anyway.

So, that having been said, here's our presentation on the presentation of Ghostface. So I was listening to episodes of this show, and it was talking about Scream. Which I'm totally on board with, and I'm like, okay, cool. And really enjoyed kind of going through the blow-by-blow action of starting with the first one. And we got midway into that, and I was like, that's weird.

Like, I guess I hadn't stopped and thought about it. It's right there in the plot. I guess if you dig into any of these plots, they're all going to fall apart. But I'm going through, and it actually, they started, or it occurred to me during the bathroom scene when Ghostface tries to jump Sidney. And then it also happens earlier when I went back and started going through the list.

So, Ghostface shows up at her high school, tries to murder Sidney in the bathroom. Now, as we know that movie... It's based on a grand finale. And everyone's orchestrating it in horror movie terms of like. Ha ha, this is the way you end this big story.

Was he really trying to kill her? Like if he kills her in the bathroom, is the movie over? So all her friends live and like everything else stops because all we wanted to do was off Sydney? Or is that a play to lead to what will become the grand finale? That she knows to just to scare and keep perpetuating this ghost faces out there trying to kill you thing until we.

Get to the grand finale. Huh. Hmm. That's a good point. But yeah, it also happens like he's in her house earlier.

I forgot that part when I even it occurred to me. I was like, he's like the I'm on the porch thing. And then he's in the closet. Yeah. I'm like, we already had like, I went back and rewatched it.

There's a knife coming at her head. Like, Seems like he's trying to stab her in the head. And, you know, as usual, Ghostface gets his ass kicked on a regular basis. That is kind of the beauty of the. Killer in quotes there.

Because normally, you know, Jason and Michael Myers, like, they just plow through and kill everybody. Ghostface gets his ass kicked in every, not even movie, interaction with someone. Sidney or whoever he's trying to kill usually beats the hell out of him before they get stabbed. So. That's always kind of fun.

Well, and you never see an unmasked ghost face being like, hold on a second. There's not stew with a giant bruise on his face. They're like, huh, you didn't have that yesterday. I got three of these ribs broken. I can't get into it.

Don't touch me there. Yeah, it does seem like eventually there'd be a little red flag on the whodunit part. Like, this guy with all the bruises is probably Ghostface. Well, Billy had so. Many opportunities when they were just alone off Sydney that she never would have seen coming.

Again, like, what is the end result? Is it the theatrics of it, which would then lead to the big finale, or do you just want to murder her? Because if you just want to murder her, you're in her bedroom. Just stab her and go out the window and be like, oh, somebody killed her. Like, it becomes a weird thing.

And then I went through and I was like, well, all of them kind of have. Yes. So then I started going through them all. I'm like, okay, so two is the least amount, but there is a run in early on when she's at that party at the sorority house and gets trapped in there. It's over real quick, but like trying to murder her.

So is Mrs. Loomis really trying to kill her there? Or do we need the grand finale at the playhouse with all the thunder and lightning? Yeah. I don't know.

She seems like she just wanted to murder her because she hated her. How many of these ghost face. How do any of. Them get away with killing anybody? They're all really bad at it.

Well, and in 2, they're going by the pattern of killing people with the same names as the people that were killed in the first movie. Which comes up again later. Why even scare her if you're just. Checking off a list? In a certain order.

And again real world for us it becomes to set up red herrings half the time because then we've got her stupid boyfriend getting slashed on the arm and it's like well is that a ploy to make it seem like it's not him even though it's probably him because there's probably two people again and he's the other one but he isn't so i don't know it's it's huh spoilers for screams by the way all screams ever. I do want to see in one of these movies a scene at the beginning where the new ghost faces are like, this is the one that's going to work. It's going to work this time. I mean, it's kind of five. I'll get to that.

So yeah, three. Again, I like three more than most people. But three, there's the whole set piece in the middle in her fake house where she almost falls off and dies. Or he definitely almost kills her several times there. Which, again, he's the one with the grand plan.

He's the one master planning this whole thing, if you believe that. So is he the one that kept Stu and Billy from killing her early on because he wanted the grand finale because he's the director and he set this up? Right. Everybody's going to call bullshit on that. You're right, too.

It's fine. But even there, I'm like, as far as we can tell, trying to murder her in that house... And then we get the big finale. So is this, which again, real world, I don't even think that was supposed to be the finale. I think it was supposed to happen on set originally before.

Rewrites got involved. Yeah. So that's maybe half of these reasons. But as the finished product stands, are you fake trying to kill her? Because you need it to happen at the big party at the end, at the producer's house.

I don't know. That one's weird too. Don't think about it. Scream 4, she gets attacked. I've just been not thinking about it.

I think that's what they kind of count on. If you only watch it one time through, you're just like, wow, that ghost face really wants. To kill her at the end. But then when you know, especially with these, because it's always a big reveal, then when you rewatch it, it's like, boy, Scream 4, she's at her aunt's house and almost gets stabbed in the head once again. Girl gets stabbed and her arm's sliced.

There's all these things going on at the house. And I'm like, but there she definitely needs it to be a big production. She is all. About the finale and I'm the only lone survivor. I'm becoming the new star Sydney person.

So she would definitely need the big finale at the end. So that's fake? I don't know. Every one of these. Five.

There's a snack room. She calls it the break room. I'm like, is it the break room at the hospital if you don't work there? Anyway, I'm going with snack room. So she's in the room with the vending machines where there is one in every hospital.

But yeah, it's weird that she said break room. You don't work here. But again, she gets attacked. And this is the one I will give the most credit to because those two at the end definitely want, I mean, it is, I don't, I will definitely question Billy and Stu. They seem kind of like idiots.

Like, don't get me wrong. I love those two, but they're not the biggest planning. That's why you could almost buy number three of like, yeah, somebody could easily do both of them. I mean, Billy being the smarter of the two still ain't that bright. So I can definitely see like them just sort of winging it on the first one.

And it just happens to end up at the party. Because, I mean, really, the party only happens because they call off school. Yeah. And they only call off school because of the murders that they did, but they didn't know that was. Officially going to happen.

You could assume maybe. And they only did the murders to get out of school. Yeah. So, like, all of that's a big gray area anyway. I like it when things go in circles.

Yeah. Definitely five, though, because five, like, those. Two are completely reconstructing the whole idea of that first movie, so much so they're at Stu's house. Like, they need it to end and reboot the cycle at Stu's house, so that one I'll almost give you. And it's also the super minor one where she's in the break room, and that's the only time they really have a solo interaction.

Again, she shows up and could have gotten killed at the at the hospital trying to rescue her sister. So that would totally screw up their movie, by the way. So, yeah, that's the only one where there's like a minor interaction, but I definitely feel like that was just. Continuing the cycle. They needed to lure her in.

They needed to lure Sidney into town to get their big finale at Stu's house. So I feel like five is the one I will be like, yes, that was fake. That was meant to do what it did and drag everyone further into the plot to lead us to the big finale. So five's the only one I'm like, yeah. and they didn't get to six yet so because it's not. Streaming by the way bastards but it's there it's i looked it up before i was like okay before i get to these last two i can watch them right because i want to re-watch them before i get into listening to this thing and it brought up both of them i'm like okay cool so i watched the first one and deal with that, getting ready to watch the sixth one, and I was like, coming soon?

So it came up, but it came up with a weird coming soon date that I didn't notice. So in a week, I can watch that one. Thanks, guys. Weird. That one's been out for a while.

I know. I think it's switching from one thing to another as well. I think it's finishing up its run originally wherever it went, and now it's going to go to this other streaming place. It's so weird when they make you wait when they do that, because it's not like somebody has to drive over, pick it up, and take. It to the...

Contracts. I think it's all contracts. Yeah, I know, but come on. Jerks. The other thing, the only other one I found out in the listening to this run of them was, and.

I think I've brought, I know I've brought it up on the show. I think our last two Scream conversations, I came up with the same thing and told you guys because my thing was Scream 4. I still really like it, but I was so let down because of what I wanted. The plot to do. And it doesn't do that.

It gets super traditional again. So as I, I guess I never dug into that, even when we talked about 4. I think we just talked about the plot, not the behind the scenes. I just found out the way that I wanted it to go was exactly how Kevin Williamson was going to do it. And, like, had written it that way.

So much so that, like, it was, in his mind, the start of a new trilogy. Right. And he. Because I said, I was like, I'm sick of Gale. I want to offer in the barn right in the middle.

And then, like, Sydney, I like her and all, but... If it's time to go, it's time to go. Especially when you've got such a good new villain that can come in and because she wants to take over, like, become the new anti-hero and become the new... Again, I always said turn it into more of like an American Psycho. So we're watching this crazy person go through the steps of like, how do I kill people and get away with it?

That's exactly what he wanted to do. He was going to kill... He was going to. Have it sort of left... Ambiguous?

Maybe, but I mean, basically, they take her out and all the reporters are in her face at the hospital, or before, at the house, before they go to the hospital. That was going to be. The end shot, was just her going out and all the reporters giving her the attention that she wanted. Sidney was essentially going to be dead, and the next two movies were going to be her going on murdering people, getting away with it, covering it up. And again, the only thing I wanted, I was.

Like, kill Gale, you can kill Sidney if you need to, leave Dewey, so Dewey can be the freaking... Donald Pleasance dragging himself from one movie to the next, chasing this guy or, or girl as it may be around, like constantly looking for ghost face from one town to the next. You can go to LA and go to New York. Dewey's going to show up shuffling in there, shot nine times, stabbed with nerve damage. He's still going to keep coming, trying to kill ghost face.

That's all I wanted. That's pretty much what was going to happen. It was supposed to be a trilogy. It was supposed to be, um, Emma Roberts and all three. And Dewey was still alive.

And, um, It's also the asterisk, the reason we don't see Hayden get killed. We see, you know, what's her name? What is her character's name? Kirby. Kirby.

Kirby gets stabbed pretty good and is bleeding nicely as we leave her there, and then we just never come back. We don't see her die because it was in her contract. She was signed on for the next three in the trilogy. Oh. So Kirby was going to survive and be in at least the next movie, if not all three.

And it was in her contract. She can't die in this movie. So that's why we just cut away. And that's why we get to bring her back in six. So good for you, Kirby.

I would have liked that if the actress was anyone other than Emma Roberts. There's just something about her that I really don't like her. I find her so unlikable in everything that she's in. Especially the end of that movie. She is insane.

That's kind of what I wanted, was that level of insane for two more movies. That's true. I just can't watch her. I don't know. Four is my least favorite.

I just can't stand her. It's been so long since I've seen any of them, except for the most recent two. I had re-watched them not that long, and then went back again just in the last couple of weeks doing this. Again, I think it holds up. I think it's still.

Maybe my favorite series as far as solid one to the next. There are some issues with all of them. Well, that's the thing. I remember enjoying all of them to varying degrees, obviously. Yeah, they're like my comfort movies.

I love them so much. And I talk to people about... I've talked to people, normal people, who are into horror movies and just absolutely hate them and think they're the dumbest. And I'm like, there's so much. I was like, it's one of those few movies that are full of who did it, who did it the whole time that I actually have fun trying to figure out who did it.

And I'm usually not disappointed when my initial thought was like incorrect. See, I felt the other way just in the last few weeks. Like since I've been watching this, I've seen so. Many people wearing Ghostface. Like there was a kid at the grocery store.

I'm like, he's like, 15 or 16 i'm like dude you missed the whole first wave like you're coming in on these last two movies at best totally had this really awesome uh hoodie on with ghost face on the back yesterday there's this dorky girl in probably mid-20s wearing this giant ghost face again i think it was another hoodie of a totally different variety i was like it is it is hit a weird pop culture wave that, like, again, is, like, the last of those type of characters. Because he's, like, every time I see a weird comedy horror-themed, because, again, that's what we do, horror-themed. Skit or something online, it always is Ghostface and the original slashers. Yeah. So he's, like, been adopted into....

Jason and Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger. That era was all kind of the 80s. And Ghostface got just cut in under the wire there. No, that's the thing. It's huge.

But for some reason, all the people I know, which just tells me I need new friends. Yeah, you're going to have to switch out because those people don't know what's going on. I mean, I tell them that all the time. Your opinions are wrong. Oh, boy.

So yeah, Scream. I like it. Me too. I enjoy it thoroughly. Even though only half the time is Ghostface actually trying to kill Sidney.

Only when it's cool. Yeah, I'll have to think about that now. I guess they're just like psychologically torturing her, though. Yeah, I mean, next time you rewatch it. What a horrible life that poor woman has had.

But I know, she's like, good God. That's why I was like, can you leave me alone? I mean, I feel like at a certain point you'd be like, just get this shit over with. I know, I'd be like, here. Which even by.

Again, the way that they... The fifth one is so well done. The fact that even she's like... Dewey's on the phone with her. He's like, do you have a gun?

She's like, I'm Sidney fucking Prescott. Of course I have a gun. And I was like, okay, that's smart. That's smart writing to insert that into your movie because this woman has been through some shit. So yeah, I do like...

The fifth one is really well put together. I mean, I feel like if it happens once... you'd definitely be screwed up by that. But you could reclaim your life. Second time, it's like, okay, but by the time it happens the third time, you're just like, what the fuck is going on? It's like, what did I do that was so bad?

She's the angel of death. Everywhere she goes, people die. That's from 4, by the way. Even in the series, they're like, seriously, what is up with this chick? Alright, so hopefully you enjoyed that discussion.
