Hi, I'm Sam Irvin, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown. The following feature has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised. It's showtime, folks. Enjoy the show.
Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power. What do you want from us? What's up? Welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
I'm Misty. And I'm Jay. Are you awake? Yeah, I'm kind of half asleep. We're always not sure if he knows if he's Jay or not.
It's the problem. It's always questionable. And we're coming to you live from Lexington, home of the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention. Back once again. How many years has it been now?
I don't know. We ask that every convention we go to. And we never know because it's so many. I can't even remember back that far. But pretty much since they started, I'd say.
That's true of most conventions. We were discussing that with one of the guests at the convention today. I was like, We were doing this so long ago. It's just a whole new world now. There's a lot of things going on in the convention world that was not the same if you go back 15, 20 years.
It's a whole different world. Part of me kind of misses the way things used to be where things were reasonable. But that's just the world at this point. Yeah, but it's just gone bananas. It's gone apeshit.
It's expensive. Craziness. But with that, a thing that was like surprising this time around because coming into this, assuming we were going to discuss the way crowds act, I was going to have my issues that I have in the regular world. Today, people were like surprisingly polite. It's like the opposite of normal.
Maybe they knew. They were like, oh, whoa, whoa. Watch out for her. I don't think it was just you. I think because they definitely with me a few times, people were like, oh, I'm sorry.
And like, we're very polite about, you know, just, you know, there's a lot of people come in contact with each other. Except for that one bitch with the elbows. Well. Don't just walk around with your elbows fully, like, all the way out. Like, when you're in a crowded space, at least try to, like, compact a little bit.
Don't just, like, whoa, look at me. I got elbows. Fuck your elbows. She's got dysfunctional elbows. They don't turn any other way.
Dude, they were just, like, they were at fucking 10 and 2 damn near, you know. She should at least wear a vest so we all know. Oh, she's got a problem with your elbows. All those elbows. And you come around corners, trying to even look at where you're going, and I'm like, But 98% of the people, aside from elbows, was nice.
I thought one kid who apologized twice, he apologized when he bumped into me. As he passed, he bumped into me and apologized. Then he looked back to apologize again. I'm really sorry. I'm like, okay, dude.
You're good. You are forgiven. Thank you. It's all good. You went about it the right way.
This is how people are supposed to. Yeah, he wasn't a dick. Because this is, outside of today, this was what I was going to say I've noticed lately, and it's really weird. And then I'm like, is it, because everything now, I keep trying to factor in our post-shutdown, our lockdown for, you know, a long time, and people got less and less out in the world interacting with the peoples. Maybe that was the one guest problem.
I don't know. But I've noticed so many times lately, and it's just in this last, like, year or so, when suddenly everybody's back out in the world, crammed into doing things again. People, like, not only, it's not even like they're rude. Like, they don't acknowledge that there are other people coming into their space. And I'm like, dude, that's your job.
Assess the situation. Keep yourself away from the other people. That's all you got to do when you're walking around. There are people I see, and it's not like they're not watching. They'll see you coming, and they'll still keep walking.
Yeah, I had a couple of those today, too. I didn't even have that today. Oh, no. But in general, I've seen that so many times lately that I'm just like, dude, I am right here. what is wrong with you? Like, why are you just continuing to walk towards me?
Zombie. Yeah. I'm like, you're a zombie or I'm invisible. I don't know which. Cause there was at least one guy.
I'm like, dude, come on, come on. Divert. Where are you? What are you doing? I don't know.
I just wonder that with people in general, I was like, is this a post pandemic thing that people just don't understand how to walk with other people anymore? And I thought it was going to be a rough one. As soon as we walk in, there's almost a fight. Well, just a nerd fight though. I mean, That's when you get stabbed with a pencil.
That's as crazy as it gets. I don't know what your obsession with pencil fights are. Well, that was the only time that ever happened was at San Diego Comic-Con. There was a nerd fight, and someone got stabbed with a pencil. That's like the most escalated it's gotten at conventions that I know of.
I think pencil, all I think is fucking John Wick, and none of these nerds there are John Wick. Oh, no. Nobody was John Wick. That's not how our people are. CW was even handing out free pencils, so I think we were okay.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. We had a good crowd today. Except for that one guy. Well, that guy's got problems. I'm not sure he was okay.
He might not have needed to be out by himself anyway. He might need a keeper. An adult needs to be with him at all times. He was having a bad day. I'm like, dude, I'm usually about to lose my shit, but your shit is lost.
But otherwise, it was all good. We saw all kinds of stuff. We were I bought stuff. Leisurely walking around, not having issues. I had a great time.
Because you weren't there stressing me out. I wasn't there stressing. Why would I stress you out? Because you're always like trying to dart in and out of traffic and running way far ahead. And I have to like look for you.
And I'm like, where the fuck did he go now? Sorry. Sorry. I'm on a mission a lot of times. I want to look at stuff.
And you're just like, I'm like, I'll look down for a second. You're like half an aisle away. And I'm like, what the fuck? Sometimes I just, I have a hard time standing still. I didn't notice that, but now that you mention it, I didn't at any time today hear you go, where the fuck did he go?
I'm like, oh yeah, now that you mention it, that is true. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I stress everybody out. I didn't really notice myself, but obviously she has some problems. I was upset because my boyfriend's not going to be there to hold my hand to keep me from stressing out.
I'm like, wait a second. Maybe I am the reason you'd stress out. And when I can hold on to you, I know where the fuck you are. Yeah, yeah. You at least need a leash for him.
Dude, seriously. Get one of those kid leashes. It's fine. We walked at a leisurely pace. Looked at shit.
I bought stuff. Bought all kinds of stuff. We were buying things, being productive. I got a free bookmark. Well, I didn't bother because I don't know how to read.
I bought some earrings. It may or may not hurt my ears. We will see. But I'm pretty sure I'll be okay. I bought some stickers.
You bought some stickers. I bought some stickers. Cool. So, do we need to address the newfound projects that have burst upon the scene? What are you talking about?
Crochet. Crochet. There are so many crochet. It's like, I mean, and I appreciate those who do it, but I can't do it. It's impressive.
Like, I've seen, well, definitely there. There were a few that I actually was like, oh, I would kind of have that. Like, I don't buy much crochet. But, you know, I was like, I would have that. It's a cute creature.
There was a cute baby Yoda there. The little bat guy was super cool. I'm like, I'd have that. Do I need more stuff? No.
I have so much stuff. It's ridiculous. So I'm trying to control myself. Set up with my cross-stitch. Cross-stitching.
The cross stitch is impressive. I have to give you credit. Dude, you know how long it would take me to have enough cross stitch to put in a booth? A long time. Years.
It would literally take years. And then you wouldn't part with any of them. I would be like, no, this is mine. No, I have somebody on Instagram who constantly wants me to make her an R.L. Stine cross stitch because she's crazy and I'm crazy.
And I'm not going to sell her the one that I've made because you know what? It's mine. I put literally my blood into that because it was one of my, it was my, well, my third official cross stitch. And yes, there is my blood in there. There's a reason I picked red for the background.
I'm trying to do some sort of kiss promotion. I know what you're up to. But yeah, it's like cross stitch and 3D printing. I want a 3D printer. I want a 3D printer.
I don't know how the fuck it works, but I want one. And I want to 3D print everything. This is my question. And now I'm just probably starting trouble for the rest of the internets because that's what people do mostly. Well, no, I normally don't.
I see most other people do it. But the other version of this conversation, I'm just so tired of hearing. And I'm like, well, does this not apply to 3D printing? So if you're the 3D printer and you're typing in what you want or you're scanning your thing that you want and you hit print, are you the artist? Because all I do is hear people complain about computer art, CG art.
People are losing their damn minds over CG art. Oh. And I'm like, well, I mean, are these people, is this a craft and that makes it okay? Are you a skilled mechanical engineer that's hitting print on this thing and that makes you different? No.
Or if you call yourself an artist, does that piss off some? who's out there carving a Yoda out of wood somewhere that's like, you didn't do the work. Screw you. That ain't a real piece of art. Did they make the original art that it's based off of? Probably not.
You probably bought yourself an action figure and scanned its head and then you're like, I want one like that. I don't know. I just don't hear anybody throwing a big hissy fit over 3D printers, but yet CG art is just like, and don't get me wrong, like I know so many freaking artists. I understand why they're mad. I understand like how it cuts into their, you know, livelihood.
But at the same time, I'm like, sometimes people go too far with their complaining. And I'm like, I can just look at it and go, yeah, that's CG art, usually garbage or nonsense. I play with it because I think it's hilarious. The weird nonsense it makes up. And like, that's the only aspect I'm interested in.
I don't want it to look like real good art because I'll just go get that from somebody who knows what they're doing. But when I type in, I want these giant monkeys standing on a beach with a robot handing them a towel. And it does it and it's wrong and ridiculous and sometimes gives them a third arm in the wrong spot. And just like, all right, this is interesting, if nothing else. But I don't know.
Just because you. Think the third arm is in the wrong spot does not mean. I mean, on that one girl, it was hot. But, you know, it depends on what you're looking for. But.
Third arms. It would have been better if it had bones in it. It was just kind of a little squishy thing laying there. But anyway, that's a whole other story. But, yeah, I don't know.
I just, people were so losing their mind over that. But I was like, well, I mean, how is this really different? You're still, but then it gets into a weird gray area anyway. It's like, so is any art that you're using any extra thing? Suddenly, like, you're using different tools than somebody else, so you're less of an artist than they are.
I mean, I do my cross stitch, but I make my own patterns off of other people's stuff. So does that? I don't know. Yeah. I was like, is that cheating?
Is somebody out there as a cross stitch professional going to be pissed about it? Well, until Emma Roberts lets me come take pictures of her myself. I mean, she might. I wish. I mean, she seems super cool on the Instagram.
So let's see if we can send her a message and be like, is it cool if we come over and. Take some photos? I want to take pictures of you for my cross stitch. I swear it's just for cross stitch. It's not anything weird.
Okay, anything weirder? I'm sure taking photos for your cross-stitch seems kind of weird to you right now, but let me give you the full story and show you my R.L. Stine, and you'll be impressed. And like Christopher Pike, Road to Nowhere cover. So, yeah, that just occurred to me today.
I don't know. Again, it's just argument for the sake of argument at this point. I don't know. People can make whatever the hell they want. Like, if I had a 3D printer, I'd be printing all kinds of shit, too.
Fuck yeah, I would. I'd be printing an Emma Roberts. Life-size. She's tiny. I mean, if you can ex Machina that shit, I'll take it.
She's adorable. But yeah, the little Godzilla guy, he was cool. I did pick him up, and then I had a hard time sitting him back down because I couldn't get his legs to stand back right. I'm like, oh my God, I shouldn't have picked this up. Extra tail pieces that were stuck together to make a moving tail.
It was pretty impressive. So again, it takes some skill to do certain things on there. So I don't know. I don't know what that makes you. Maybe you're just a craftsman.
I don't know. But they were pretty cool. I like that Skeletor, too. Yeah, the Skeletor was pretty cool. The Castle Grayskull was awesome.
Those were all cool. You're talking about 3D printed? Yeah. Yeah, there's files you just download and you just hit print and then you walk away. There you go.
And they're back and they're done. I've also seen it go wrong, too, where it gets off for a second and then it's kind of like... And then you're like, aw. And it gets that third arm. Yeah.
In the wrong spot. We also saw a lot of awesome costumes today. Let's see. I mean, I know the most awesome one, but what other ones? I know which one that I'm most impressed with and then I...
Totally stressed awkwardly about it afterwards. And I told you, either way, it's still an awesome costume. What? Why would you be stressed? Okay, wait a second.
It's a very misty thing. Go ahead. As I could see, she was wearing a cheerleader outfit. And it said Twin Peaks across the back. So I'm like, okay, it's red hair.
Obviously, we've got a Nadine over here. I walk by and she's wearing an eyepatch, which is also very, the character. That is Nadine. That's Nadine. She's wearing an eyepatch.
And as we're walking by, she like sees me seeing her and I'm like, that's awesome. That's just, that's amazing. The eyepatch perfection. And I'm like, what if she actually just needed the eye patch? What if she every day has an eye patch?
But it was perfect. I wasn't like making fun of her. It was awesome. That's the thing. What if the eye patch is real?
Yeah. Which I said, well, to me, you just found the perfect costume. Like Nadine has an eye patch. This is the perfect costume. She looked amazing.
Yeah. It was a great costume regardless. So I was like, you just, how could you do Nadine without the eye patch? So with or without her personal eye situation. It's necessary for that costume.
And you know, and even still, I don't think that person would have taken it as an insult. She didn't, because she got super excited. A, that we knew who she was. Yeah. Because you started talking about the costume.
And then I started talking about the drapes and she got really excited. She's like, yeah! And she started doing the crazy arm motions and like. So I was like, she was excited that we knew who she was and acknowledged she had a cool costume. Because it was amazing.
Because Nadine is amazing. It is Nadine, right? I'm getting that right. And then the fact that anybody would be Nadine, you know, it's like, yeah, I've seen a lot of Laura's wrapped in plastic walking around shows. And hey, there was a fucking full out Shelly there.
Oh yeah Shelly was good And it was diner Shelly So it wasn't just like Regular clothes Shelly. I'm glad you finally saw her Because I saw her first Like through the crowd Yeah you were describing her to me And he was like That sounds cool And then later we ran into her I was like yep That is a full on diner kid Because wasn't she in line For like Sherilyn Finn Or Shelly She. Was over there by him Yeah so I'm assuming that's what Brought her. There It was amazing But yeah I felt Like shortly afterward I'm like What if the eye patch Is not part of her costume. And as I said Sometimes you just go with what you got.
Because it wasn't like a half-ass eyepatch. And I wasn't trying to be mean. It looked amazing. I don't think she would have taken it wrong. Like I said there, it was like if you wore it with a regular outfit that doesn't require an eyepatch, then it would just be weird and you'd confuse the nerds.
What if she'd been dressed as Shelly? But with an eyepatch. But with an eyepatch. And people are like, you're doing it wrong. That's the wrong character.
She's never even seen Twin Peaks. I was like, what if it's just Spider-Man with an eyepatch? And you're like, what issue is this? I don't remember that. You're just going to make a nerd mad.
You're going to confuse them. So just, yeah, go with your strength. If you need an eyepatch, just. You know, you're Carl. Just go as Carl.
It's all cool. We did see a Carl. We did see a Carl. I was like, what do you think about his eye? Fuck his eyepatch.
It didn't look as good as hers. You were like, get on the porch, you little bastard. Get in the house. Damn it, Carl. Carl is his eye?
Eventually you get shot in the eye or something. Oh, I don't know. I quit watching that. That's what I was trying to figure out. Because we quit watching it when they were in the big trailer thing, the container.
The container? Yeah, that was the last episode I watched. They were being held captive in some kind of like. Oh, you. You were right there beside me.
He was asleep and we're on his phone. What are you on? I don't remember reading that. There were a lot of costumes there today, though. I saw some Obi-Wans in the parking lot.
Saw a big-ass Jake. Yeah, he was. From State Farm? No. But that would be cool.
He should have been Jake wearing a red shirt, so he could be Jake as Jake. From Adventure Time. He was Adventure Time Jake, but it would have been funny if he had a red polo shirt on. Okay. Saw several Ursulas today.
Ursulas? Yeah, I think I did. Yeah, I saw a nice one. Little Mermaid? Was somebody from Little Mermaid there?
No. Oh, just people were like, hey. There's a lot of voice people there, though. They might have had some crossover. Oh.
Cool. Did not get to see the American Gladiators because they were at some kind of something else. Yeah, I think they were doing a talk or something like that. I think that's what he said. They were too much monies for me anyways because I would have, you know, how do you just get one American Gladiator and not get the other?
Because I would have been like, holy shit, because it was $ 60 for an autograph, which, I'm sorry, that's too much. I'm poor. Come on, be realistic. As I said while we were standing there, I was like, that's kind of out of touch i was like you're at a certain time you would have been the big stars and you could have gotten big money autographs but at that point in time they weren't even doing conventions like this at least not widespread. So and if julie brown is 40 yeah.
Julie brown's awesome and she like she was just like whatever i'm not gonna rip people off so like she was super cool but we can get back to her but yeah american gladiators i was just like that's a kind of a window in I feel like you missed your window for charging super high prices. I would have got them if they were like $ 40 and at their table. Yeah. Because, I mean, yes, it was not my favorite American Gladiator. Maybe that's why.
They knew. If it had been Turbo, I would have been all over that shit. You'd be like, $ 100, I'll give it to you now. Turbo, or I'll say Hawk, but I think Hawk's dead. You liked Hawk, too.
He was pretty. I liked Hawk. I liked the other guy, too. The surf guy. What was his name?
Malibu malibu yeah malibu was cool. He didn't even surf you know that right. Yeah i know it's all a character i just yeah it's all a character much like wrestling it's all like. The fuck you say hey wrestling's entertainment get the fuck out of here but yeah if it had been turbo i might have ponied up six uh you know sixty dollars maybe even the hundred combo for turbo because i love me some turbo he was my favorite where is he at these days i don't know like fucking teaching volleyball or some shit like that it's a coach somewhere i don't know i tried i tried to look it up and that was the last i could find who knows what he's done since then but he's apparently not doing conventions. I am surprised that you could not track him down try.
That hard i was gonna say i feel like you probably could knowing your internet skills i feel like you could. But yeah the only american gladiators i think i think i think ice and nitro or like They're like definitely trying to milk this for all it's worth. Because I think recently there was a documentary or a movie, something out recently on Netflix, maybe? And so they are trying while they can to milk it, I guess. Which I don't care.
I don't blame them. Before everybody who remembers who they are keel over. It's like, hurry up and get their money. And it sucks because when they put it on Netflix, they pulled American Gladiators off all the free stuff. I know.
That's why I was like, we went, because for a while we were watching American Gladiator Saturday morning. I got it on DVD. Yeah, I know, but still. Not the same. It's easier when you can just jump on Pluto or whatever and just sit and watch it.
You know, and just all of a sudden it went away. I was like, where the hell did it go? Why is it not on here anymore? You know, I didn't know it was because they. I mean, I'm just guessing, 100% assuming that they put it.
No, I'm sure. That's exactly why they did it. Because they're like, oh, now this is out. Now we can charge money for it. Because now people are going to, well, I want to watch American Gladiators now.
And it's like, oh, okay, it's not for free. Well, now I got to pay for it. I'm not even sure if it's like a pay thing. I don't know. I didn't look that far into it.
But yeah, it was just ice and nitro. Ice and nitro. That sounds like a drink. Give me an ice and nitro. That's one of those fancy drinks.
Yeah. Can't afford those. No. We saw Shannon Dirty back in the corner. Yeah.
She had a line. She was signing stuff. We saw the absolutely gorgeous Charisma Carpenter. I did not get in her line because, again, money. I don't have it.
I think she's been in this area a few times, but I don't know if we've actually crossed paths with her. So that might have been the first time we've seen her in the real world. And yep, she is looking pretty damn good. She does. She looks amazing.
You know, I was just like. Super skinny. She's not even just skinny. She's just tiny. She is a tiny person.
How tiny is she? I don't know, but she seems tiny. She's shorter than you? Probably. I don't know.
She was wearing heels. So, you know, without her heels, she was probably shorter than me. Really? Wow. Is she like my mom's height?
I don't know. It's hard to tell. I couldn't get a real good judgment because she was far away. She was behind a barricade. Take off your shoes and start talking in broken English and we'll see if you're the same size as Jay's mom.
That's how we had to find out her size. Yeah. Look, we've got a very specific set of rules we have to go by. Take your shoes off and tell everybody you got stung by a jelly bean. I was the one who got stung by the jelly bean.
But she told me that I got stung by. A jelly bean. Yeah, my mom told her that. Okay, well, whatever. My mom calls jellyfish jelly beans.
Because she gets them mixed up and she doesn't... She knows the difference. She just... Yeah. So imagine a.
Easter's got to be crazy around here. Yeah. Imagine a little short Asian lady. Look, I got you a whole thing full of jellyfish. You got stung by jellybean.
You got stung by jellybean. Here's a basket for you. Oh, God. Look at it. No.
Oh, well. What else did we see? We saw all Twin Peaks girls. Yeah. Yeah.
I'm glad I got Sherilyn Finn years ago. Back when their prices were still reasonable. You got Sherilyn and then you got Sherilee too. Both, you know. And you stood in that spot and were like, it was right here in this spot.
I did. Was it last year? It was this spot when Ray Wise took a hold of my hand and took a picture of of himself on my arm. We stood in that spot and you reminisced. I did.
And Cheryl Lee was like, get away from my line. She was at the same table. She was in his spot. She was weird. I wonder if they planned that.
They think he was secretly lurking behind her somewhere. He could have been. Was he there? Last time. Okay, so he wasn't there.
This time it was just in Bob form. Oh, okay. We walked past the empty tables of Priscilla Presley, who she was not there. She did have a line. She did have a line.
Um, Barbara Eden. Barbara Eden. It was probably past her bedtime when we left. I would see Barbara Eden. She always seemed cool.
Um, a lot of voice people who had no idea who they are. And I just, I don't understand it at all. I mean, I get it with some, but it's weird how much it's just like kind of everybody. Like if you've done, which don't get me wrong, I'm jealous. Like I want to, I want to have a voice over job.
Like there are very, very few people that I would wait in line for voice actors, but I've already got their autographs online. Cause I got, I do still want to get Alan Oppenheimer, but only if I can get him something on the nothing. You just got to bring your own nothing with you. I've got to. I haven't seen anything offered of him on that one.
I've got Shira, the Melody, whatever her name was. I got her autograph before she went expensive. And I got Jem. So I got the important ones down already. The essentials.
Yes. But I would consider Alan Oppenhagen, which I'm probably getting his name wrong. Oppenheimer? Oppenheimer, not Oppenhagen. I don't know.
Did he invent the nuclear bomb? Possibly. That might be him. I want their Skeletor to sign my this here the nothing. We forgot about my most exciting meeting.
I was just going to say, you've got your interaction. You did get an autograph. And he was, oh my God, so nice. He was very cool. And I wasn't all that.
Well, again, I almost had like back to being the art dork. I was like, I kind of had art questions for him, but like there were like other dorky book readers behind me. I was like, oh man, I'm not going to tie up your line. Nevermind. But.
Go ahead. Tell them who you came in contact with. I did. His picture is right here. Yes, it was Tim Jacobus who did all the original, not all of the original art, but most of the original art.
Some of the iconic, even I'm like, isn't that the Haunted Mask? From all the Goosebumps books? I didn't even read books, but I've seen that cover so many times. See, I did not read. I have never read a Goosebumps book.
In my life that I recall. Because I didn't, when I was a kid. Which being a YA person, like now it's like, you know, that seems crazy talk if you know how many crazy YA books you have. But like these are pre-YA. Oh no, no, no, because this is pre-YA because this is like kids books.
Younger, younger. Oh yeah, because I did not read Goosebumps. I've never read one. I did not read one. When I started reading, I went straight to Fear Street because I was that fucking cool.
As you told him. I did. I did tell him that. You were like, I was too cool for Goosebumps. I was obviously too cool.
And then you told him. What you read. And he was like, oh, you were actually. So he knew Fear Street was way cooler. I mean, Fear Street.
For older kids. Let's put it that way. I was in like fifth or sixth grade. Maybe fifth or sixth grade. I don't know.
Plus you were like advanced. You know, you weren't like a kid. Obviously. But anyways, now that I'm an adult, I feel like I can appreciate Goosebumps. Because back then I'm like, oh, that's baby stuff.
And now I'm like, you know what? It's going to be kind of fun. Because it's a good like palate cleanser. You read some weird-ass shit, and then you're like, you know what? I need something to clean that out of my brain.
I need to wipe it clear. You know what I need? I need something quick, fun, nothing heavy. It's a palate cleanser. You need something to read so you don't get scared at night.
Yeah, I need that, too. So, yeah, goosebumps. I love R.L. Stine. Like I said.
He is super cool. We waited in line for how long? Our bestest friend, R.L. Stine, who we did see in the real world. We did.
It was still my Instagram photo all of these years later. Why would it be anything else? I know, right? But yeah, Tim Jacobus. And he was just so nice and so friendly.
And not like in a fake way. Because you know you get some, they're like, give me your money. We're nice. We're friends. Now go away.
Okay. But he just seemed legitimately like a nice dude. He did seem cool. And was like, I feel like he deals with, as you well know, you're familiar with the like super geek book scene. Sometimes, once again, they're kids that don't get out of the basement real often.
So I feel like he probably has to deal with a lot of crazy people. Like, oh my God, I read all of these. Well, again, you didn't do that. You're like, I didn't read your books. I don't care.
But like, you know, some of those kids were like, they grew up on Goosebumps. And like, so they probably geek out on him hard. And he seemed, like, super patient. Like, he didn't seem like he was like, oh, God, just give me your money and get out of here, kid. Like, he actually seemed like he was cool and he wanted to talk to people because he was talking to the people who got there before we would.
And then after we were there, there was another guy that he stood there and talked to. So, like, he just seems patient and very, like, kind of nice and happy to be there and talk to the people. See, I was talking to him. I'm like, I was like, yeah, now that I'm an adult, I'm trying to get, like, the original covers. And I'm like, you have no idea how hard it is to find, like, the original covers. they're still like a decent shape.
You know, it's like, I'll find one. I'm like, the cover's been ripped off. The cover's, I bought one today from the half price bookstore that the cover's in the greatest shape and I figured it was $ 2 or whatever. And he was just like, yeah, I've signed books that are like in pieces. And I was like, does he sign his first name on this part and his last name on that part?
Initials. It's all that fits. Just one letter on each page. They're all loose everywhere. You have to assemble it like a puzzle.
That's part of the fun. But yeah, he just legitimately seemed like a nice dude. So I was just, I mean, and, Dude, $ 20 for an autograph. When's the last time we've been to a convention where somebody charged $ 20? I was kind of watching as that girl was in front of us because I didn't see prices.
I was like, ooh, I don't know what this is going to be. And then, like, went see, like, took her. I was like, whoa, really? I was like, is that? Okay, that's cool.
I mean, I know you're an artist artist and not, like, a movie star, so maybe that changes the... Whole deal, but I was like, still, you can charge. And I got a picture. Yeah, and a picture for free. Like a selfie.
He could easily charge more than he is. Yeah, but $ 20, $ 20, he could probably get more people to spend $ 20 than people spending $ 40 or $ 60. I thought that about a lot of the, like, sort of the not as huge actors. I'm like, you could sell stuff, you know, 10 or 15 bucks. and sell them all day long versus like charging 40 to 60 and selling a handful the whole weekend. You know, it's like, I don't know.
I've thought that for a while, but I think it's. also a status thing. I think like they feel like, well, everybody else is making this. I should be making that too. And it's like, well, I mean, that's your call, I guess, right out the table and see how things go for you. But I feel like there are some of them that if they charged less, they could sell way more all weekend long.
Okay. And I'm going to say like, Cause I thought I was, first I was afraid. Cause I'm like, I saw he was going to be there. And I'm like, he's fucking awesome. I'm going to go.
Is he going to charge more at the convention? That cause like you can buy all this stuff online. So I was like, I'll go ahead and buy one of his pictures online. That way, if I get there and it costs way too much, at least I'll already have it. But I don't know if I can, I'm trying to look at his website.
Cause I'm trying to, cause even on his website, the autograph plus shipping is only $ 24. That's not bad. It's pretty good. Because you're getting the print, too. The print of his artwork and the autograph.
So, yeah. And when you buy, at least, when you buy his stuff online, $ 10 of that goes to buy food for people. Like, I don't know. I was trying to find, like, the actual. Like a full-on charity.
Yeah. I was trying to find the actual thing as to what it goes to. But, I mean, if you need just some kick-ass Goosebumps art signed for a good cause, I was trying to. It goes to. Trying to figure out where it goes to.
But yeah, they just buy food. I don't know if they take it to like food banks or whatever. People that actually need food. But like so half of the money that he makes selling his art online is going to other people. That's cool.
Which once again, yeah, he doesn't have to do that. So that's just awesome. Anyways, it's Jacoba. I can't even say his name. Jacobastudios.com.
And buy some cool shit. Because it's awesome. And he's awesome. Yep, he did seem very cool. He's a friendly dude.
For a good cause, too. So, good for him. Yeah, it's Jacobus. But I keep wanting to say Jacoby. That's just your Twin Peaks tie-in coming in.
Because for some reason, for years, we pronounced it wrong. Because we thought it was funnier. Dr. Jacoby. We were dorks.
Yeah. Were? Well, I mean, that was a different band of dorks. We're the carryover dorks. I did get questioned about my shirt while we were there.
Yeah, I mean, I was thinking as we were discussing that earlier, I was like, maybe we can open that up to people. Because, well, once again, I thought it was weird because I didn't notice that's what you were wearing. So when some guy started asking you about eating Mr. Bones, I was like, I know you have that shirt, so I'm going to guess you're wearing that shirt today. How did you know I have this shirt?
I know you've at least told me you had that shirt. No, I haven't. I just got it like a week ago. Well, we all love Mr. Bones, so let's go with that one.
But anyway... He specifically said, like, so when you were eating Mr. Bones back in the day, he's like, did you, like, get all the pieces and make a skeleton out of it? And I was like, I feel like I always was, like, missing a leg or an arm or something. Like, I might have had an extra head, but I was missing another piece.
And, like, it could just be my memory. It's gotten massively faulty. Who knows? But I feel like when I was eating my candies, or I was probably just throwing them in as I'm trying to assemble them, so I'm eating the loose pieces. Always had it complete.
Yeah, you were saying you got them all. Yeah, I got them all, but I always had extras. Like, I had, like, an extra leg bone or, like, enough to maybe do, like, a second skeleton. You can have a conjoined twin. Yeah, it was kind of weird.
It was. I feel like I was a kid, and I was just eating the candy most of the time. Just throwing them down. You were like, whatever. I like bones.
See, I like them, and I liked garbage can candy. We still have some of that. I like that, too. Oh, yeah. We've got some at the house that we never opened.
I think I opened it and peeked inside. Did you? Yes. Oh, I didn't open mine. Was it disturbing looking?
I didn't. It's been a while. I don't think I've opened it since we bought it, because we bought it here in Lexington, I'm pretty sure. And I was so surprised. I'm like, boyfriend's going to eat this fucking candy.
I didn't do it. I had one. I probably should run across it in some random box of thousands of things that I have. But I swear there was still a can that I had that, of course, being the hoarder child that I was, like I'd eaten the candy out and just kept it. It was a green trash can.
I got a pink one somewhere. And I had it and just like would put other random stuff in. I'd be like, oh, look, this fits in there. Yay. And I'd shove it in the drawer.
So somewhere I think there's still a green trash can rolling around in my drawer in the desk somewhere. Do you remember the mailboxes? I think I remember those, but I was like, they're obviously not as cool as trash cans. So I would just get the trash cans. No, because there was trash cans, the coffin candy, and then the mailboxes.
The mailbox had like letters or something. Yeah, it just had like letters and packages. They weren't as cool. You don't really remember the orange, remember the gum and the tiny little milk crate? Like the little, like.
The Waxman's or the. No, it was like. Oh, the, yeah. It would be like a tiny milk, like a tiny orange juice carton. I kind of remember those.
I don't think I got them, but I remember seeing them. I never got those. Back in, and this is again, dating. Hundreds of years ago, kids. But, like, you could walk up the street and there was, like, a drugstore.
And, like, the whole first aisle was nothing but candy. You can get all your drugs in there. And, like, yeah. I was like, I could care less about the drugstore. But it was, like, a mom and pop kind of drugstore.
Like, it wasn't, like, a Walgreens or any of that nonsense. It was, like, mom and pop's drugstore. I guess there was a pharmacy in there. I don't know. I was a kid.
I didn't give a rat's ass. So, I was, like, just walked in. There was, like, a spinner rack of comic books. And a whole aisle full of candy. And it was like the coolest freaking place when you were a little kid.
So that's where I got all my Mr. Bones and garbage can full of hard candies. Chalk candies. And your candy cigarettes, obviously. Oh, yeah.
Candy cigarettes. And the bubble gum cigarettes, which I was always partial to because when you blew out of it, it had that weird powder on it. So it looked like there was some smoke coming out. Oh, my gosh. How cool were you as a smoky nine-year-old?
Well, if we want to get into the other person that we saw that we mentioned earlier, it also ties into what I've been watching lately. So, I did go there specifically. Like, that was the one thing I got excited when I saw the lineup when they first came out with it was, I've said this before because I go to all these conventions and I've talked to a friend of hers and I'm like, why has Julie Brown never come to this part of the country? Like, I know she lives on the other side of the country, but, like, come this way. Come closer this way.
And she just hadn't in all these years that I've been waiting. And then finally they did the lineup and she was coming to Lexington. So I was super excited. And then we got to see her. But it did remind me I haven't seen some of those movies in a while.
So I ended up re-watching a few. And yeah, I mean, I loved Earth Girls Are Easy back in the day, but it's amazing. It is so amazing. So I just watched it last week and like, That's what I was telling you guys earlier today. I was like, there's no way in hell that could have come together any other time in history.
Like, it was right on the verge of everybody in it being, like, huge stars, like, because she wrote the song, and it's sort of, like, in first person, like, she's the lead, but then I guess you couldn't have gotten the movie made with, you know, not that many people knew who she was at the time. But Gene Davis had already kind of broken through and done the fly and been on TV, so the sort of female lead that takes over her role from the song is Gina Davis. The main alien she meets is Jeff Goldblum, who also just coming off the fly and had already been in a ton of stuff, but wasn't so big that you couldn't get him to still do a relatively small budget movie. And then the other two random aliens, just some other weird dudes, Damon Wayans and Jim Carrey, right before they like, I think they might've even been on that first season of the show or something like, They might have already known each other from Living Color, but they hadn't broken through.
Certainly Jim Carrey hadn't become Jim Carrey yet. So even a year or two ahead, there's no way that would have come together. And I kind of forgot Michael McKeon's in it. Who? You've also got some old school Spinal Tap crossover there.
He's playing a weird, speaking of surfer dudes, he's playing a weird surfer dude that I forgot. He's got a good amount of screen time. Seems like I heard somewhere they're going to make a sequel to Spinal Tap. Think they're doing an official one they did like a TV thing many years ago that was sort of like they put out a new album and they did like a kind of TV I think it was only like an hour long and that was even on TV so it was like super short comparatively but nothing that was an official like full movie sequel so I think they're supposed to be doing that with maybe with Rob Reiner last I heard so but yeah that was that was amazing it's also it is directed by Julian Temple and like he was like a an English, you know, filmmaker.
Like, he was actually making, like, cool art house kind of films, and, like, somehow he got roped into doing this crazy sci-fi comedy, and, like, it looks amazing. Like, the colors, he, like, specifically goes out of his way to, like, put together these, this crazy color palette, specifically with the aliens in the beginning, but then the whole, like, it is also, like, this weird time capsule of, like, Southern California at that moment in time, and so much so you get Angeline driving up in her pink Corvette. Like, it's... it's very of the moment Southern California. So it's, it's kind of amazing to watch in and of itself just for that, like little time capsule. But yep, that thing is awesome.
I've never seen it. It's awesome. And so is Julie, obviously. Oh, she was so nice. She was very nice.
We talked about Madonna. We did talk about Madonna. She, um, that wasn't just a random coincidence only because, you know, I'm a dork and I follow her on the social media. So, She posted something the other night on Instagram and it's like her in a crowd full of people. And I'm like, the hell is she doing?
I'm like, Oh, she's at the Madonna concert. So, which is extra, you know, if you know, Julie is extra funny because she made her own, like making fun of when truth or dare came out, like shortly after she made And it was like her own knockoff Madonna sort of thing. That's mostly just her like recreating almost specific scenes from truth or dare where she's just like kind of making fun of her. So it's interesting. I mean, obviously when you do, when you put that much time into something, it's because you're already a fan.
So she was a fan, but. Because that was the exact moment that boyfriend called because you all were talking. So I missed the first part of the conversation. After I talked to boyfriend, I wandered over and I'm like, yeah, I missed the whole part. Yeah.
And we're like, Madonna! It's Madonna! Sorry, I called. No, it's fine. I was just like, who's coming to get us?
But no, she was super excited. That's the thing. I was like, is she watching this ironically? And I asked her, are you watching her dance moves? Going, I can do better than that.
But no, no, she was very impressed with Madonna. And we were continually talking about how amazing she has to be The. Fact that Madonna can still do what Madonna does. Like just to get up there on stage for several hours. I'm like, I was like, I can't stand for several hours.
She said that she performed for over two and a half hours. Yeah, it was like two and a half hours. It's like, look, she's an old lady. She does not need to be up there dancing around for two and a half hours. But there she was.
So like the stamina she's got to have and how much working out she must do every day of her life at her age to be up there doing that. Not even for her age. In general, for anybody, but let alone, I mean, I know it's so much harder. My knees are shot now and I'm not on stage dancing around for two and a half hours. In heels.
In heels. And a bustier. So, yeah. You only save that for the weekends. Well, yeah.
That doesn't hurt my knees near as much, but it actually kind of helps my back a little. But that aside, yeah, she was like, she was really impressed with the show she put on. So it's good to know she was a genuine fan and was still like really excited to be there and see Madonna. And she was super nice. She was very nice.
She even shook my hand and I didn't buy any of her stuff. Because she's an awesome person. So the other one I watched, and this was one of those I knew of because back when I was talking to Sam Irving, the director, like I brought up a bunch of different stuff that he'd done that was like older, like horror and sci-fi stuff. And I was going down the list back then and I remember seeing this one and I was like, I don't think I remember that one. And then going through Julie's list, I was like, oh, and Julie's in this movie.
So, as I got up there, that's what, I knew they were, like, her and Sam are, like, really good friends and have been for years, and they've worked on several projects together. But as I'd gotten to this one, I was like, I don't think this was, like, a huge movie. I don't even know if I'll be able to find it. Nope, it's totally streaming. So, if you haven't seen it, this is Out There.
And it was a, like, a sci-fi comedy, but I was surprised how good it, I mean, no, no Sam's always done really cool stuff, but, like, being, like, super low budget, I was like, eh, you know, you don't get your hopes up too high. This was, uh, 1995. It's listed as a TV movie. I don't know where it would have played, but I was really impressed with, like, just how, like, it's a really fun idea, too. It's, like, a guy, he's, like, a photographer, and he takes this one, like, super impressive photo of, like, some horrible situation and, like, wins a Pulitzer for that photo.
And then after that, like, just career doesn't go anywhere. And then at one point he's at a yard sale and like, looks up and like, Oh, look, this cool old brownie. Okay. I'll take this. How much?
And goes home and it's still got film in it. So he has a dark room. He develops the film. It's a spaceship and landing and then aliens coming out. So it actually has real footage of, you know, real, proof of aliens landing on Earth on this random old camera that he found.
It's kind of a cool concept. I like that as a whole, but then once you get into it, it's loaded with super hardcore sci-fi geek references, which is Sam just stepping up and being a nerd. He's like, oh yeah, I'm going to put this here. There's so many geek references in it. It's crazy.
And then there's so many. Everybody else in the cast is old school horror and sci-fi, so if you're watching it, you're like, hey, that girl that just popped her head out of the window, that's PJ Souls, for God's sakes. I was like, I know PJ Souls. Don't you try to, like, literally, she has, like, one line and disappears. It was just a random cameo, and there's, like, six or eight more like that.
I was like, look at all these random people in it. So, it's just, yeah, if you're old school sci-fi or just, like, fun comedies, like, I was surprised how much fun it was. It's just, it doesn't take itself super seriously, but it's kind of a cool concept, and has just all kinds of cool references and cameos in it so it was a lot of fun and of course julie's awesome so she lives in a trailer i know you're shocked so those are things i've seen i'd ask you guys what movies you've watched but you don't watch movies anymore. We apparently don't because i don't think we've watched any the last thing i watched was the uh the latest scream movie Which I don't think, because we did the rundown. I don't think we talked about that last time.
I can't remember if we talked about it last time. We can talk about how disappointed I was. Oh, wait a minute. I've seen movies. Oh, Lord.
Ever? No, wait. Last time we talked was when? A long time ago. Okay, yeah.
Okay, so I watched the original Fast and the Furious. I've never seen it. I think that's the only one I saw. I've never seen it. Once it got out of control, I just was like, eh, whatever.
Now I would almost, if you can get rid of, what's his face, that other. Which one? Vin Diesel. Yeah, Vin Diesel. Oh, Vin Diesel's awesome.
I don't like Vin Diesel in general. Oh, he's so cringy. I love him. He just seems like such a creep. Oh, dude, he's awesome.
He's so bad. Bring me back Paul. I'll take Paul any day. Chronicles of Riddick. Oh, I liked the first Chronicles.
I liked it at the time. What's it? What was the other one? Pitch Black was the first one. Pitch Black, yeah.
Pitch Black I remember liking at the time because I didn't know who he was. Yeah. When I went back and watched, like years later, I went back and re-watched Chronicles of Riddick, I was like, oh. Oh, it's so cringy. Is that the one that has Carl Urban in it?
Chronicles of Riddick? Yeah. Yeah. One of them, yeah. I don't know, but there's one that like, there's a scene that creeps me out.
Like he is so, creepy to the female lead i was just like. Oh yeah that's i guess it's pitch black yeah that's the one where he's just dude it's it's just him and a stream of just inappropriate sexual. Indian yeah towards her but no i watched i watched the first fast and furious which is funny because like with a lot of things i don't when i get involved. In stuff When I started fighting, everybody was like, this is around the time when Fight Club came out. And for anybody that doesn't know now, back in the late 90s, early 2000s, I fought Muay Thai semi-pro.
So everybody was like, oh, dude, you got to watch Fight Club. You got to watch Fight Club. You know what? I was like, you know what? Fuck you.
I ain't watching Fight Club because everybody tells me I got to watch it. I ain't going to watch it. And I think still to this day, I haven't watched Fight Club. All the way through. I might have caught sniffs.
No, I have not watched Fight Club. I mean, I understand there's many a movie that's been ruined by people not shutting up about said movie. Yeah, and that's what happened. People just kept hounding me about it. I like it for other...
It's one of those, like, I think you would have felt very differently had you seen it now. It's one of those that I think... You're like dumb college age boys thought it was really cool. I'm using quotes for specific reasons. If you watch it as a grown up, I don't, well, I don't know if those guys ever really grow up, but if you watch it as a rational person, like the stuff that they think is cool.
Is not what's cool about it. There's some really awesome Fincher stuff in there that's awesome. And I will, to this day, be like, yeah, I'll watch Fight Club. But, yeah, the stuff that people at the time, they were the same dudes that were like, oh, Scarface is awesome, dude. Well, I don't think I would.
There's a lot of bro love for it. I don't think I would. Like, I would probably appreciate it now because I wouldn't appreciate it at the time. Just like with Fast and the Furious, again, late 90s. early tuner scene. I was heavy into VWs, which I was talking to another guy in Southern California.
Internet's great. We were talking and, uh, I was like, you know, I was in Florida. I was in a, in a VW club called waterworks. And, uh, he was like, I've never, I didn't know people were like tuning water cooled VWs. And I was like, yeah, I had a Mark one GTI.
And, uh, There was a guy there that had, like, a Mark II 16-valve GTI, and the leader of the club, he had a Golf City, which was... They don't even make those anymore. They don't make a car like that, but the Golf City had, like, no options. It had crank windows, no AC, no stereo. It was the bottom of the barrel.
It was the bottom of the barrel. Get OVW. But, yeah, it was just stripped out, but a lot of people bought them for autocross and stuff like that, so... Anyways, if I had seen the movie at that time when everybody's like, oh, you gotta watch Fast and the Furious, blah, blah, blah. And I was like, I don't care because the Honda guys were kind of our rivals.
And it seemed like most of that movie was about Hondas and I just didn't care. Now I was like, you know what? I'm going to get that movie and I'm actually going to sit down and watch it. And who got this movie for you? Misty.
Misty. Best girlfriend ever got it for me. Whatever. It's his movie. He created it.
But, you know, I ended up getting sick, of course, like at the beginning of the year. And so I was like, you know what? I got time. I'm going to sit and watch Fast and the Furious. And if I had seen it back then I would have picked it apart, you know, Oh, you can't do that.
That's not right. No, it's not real. That's not the way that works. You know, all this other stuff and just the, the cringy lines and it's so full of cringe lines. Uh, and Vin Diesel's just cringy, but it's, it's funny now when I go back and watch it, it's so hilarious.
I had a great time actually watching it for the first time. Like, I don't even know when the movie came out. When did that come out? Like late 90s? That's a long time ago.
So it's like over 25 years later to sit down and watch it. I actually enjoyed it. And it brought back some nostalgia. It brought back a lot of 90s feelings that, you know, I was just like, man, that was such a great time. Car meetups, street racing, even though our cars, you know, back then, some like 120 horsepower was a lot.
For a car, and now kids are getting cars with like, you know. 2001. 300, what is it, 2001? Yeah, but it takes a couple of years before, you know, the new decade kind of kicks in. So it's still very 90s-esque.
Yeah, it's still 90s. But yeah, I watched that. And I want to say there was another movie I watched, but I can't remember right off the top of my head what it was. Other than Conan the Barbarian that you always watch? Oh, yeah.
Every time I get sick, this is my go-to. Comfort. When I get super sick, like fever and stuff like that, is drink a bunch of NyQuil, bundle up, cocoon myself, and watch Conan the Barbarian, Conan the Destroyer, and Red Sonja. All back to. You're going to destroy and conquer that illness.
That's what you're saying. Well, now, I end up taking a bunch of cough syrup. Start tripping? And start, like, completely tripping. It seems fitting for the first one, because the first one, at moments, feels like a fever dream.
Oh, it is. It's a whole fever dream for me. Like, I remembered it as a kid, but I didn't remember much about it. And then when I rewatched it for the show years later, I was just like, this is way more of like a weird art house kind of movie that just also happens to have Schwarzenegger and like a lot of blood and gore and sword carrying. Yeah.
It's great when you're like super bombed out of your brain on cough syrup and, and running a high fever. And you're like, you're right there in the movie with them, you know? And, uh, but yeah, I watched those again and that's, that's all I can think of. I can't think of anything else that I might've watched aside from like rewatching, uh, hackers for like. The billionth time.
The 9,000th time. Dude, I watch hackers so much. I fucking love that movie. But, uh, yeah, I can't, I can't think of anything else. I've got a bunch of movies.
I've, I bought a bunch, uh, of stuff that I wanted to go back and rewatch, uh, and stuff that I haven't watched. Um, Like, Dune. I never got to see, like, the original Dune. Original David Lynch Dune. Not the recent one.
No, I don't give a shit about the recent one or the popcorn bucket. I might watch it at some point. And I might do the popcorn bucket. What do I care? Do the popcorn bucket.
What do I care? Yeah, no, I never saw the original all the way through because, like, at the time when it came out, you know. It did not have a good reputation. Well, no, uh. Steve, was it rated R or was it rated PG-13?
I think it was too early. It probably wasn't a PG-13. It was probably R. Yeah, whatever it was, whatever rating it had, it was a rating that my overly religious parents would not let me watch. I can see that.
So I think even on TV, we were at a friend's house and it came on TV and he came in there and was like, what are you watching? Porn. Watching dune you know and he's like yeah turn that off. This is nerd stuff leave me alone turn it off you know it's like spices and shit yeah like this isn't like anything to worry about this is sci-fi nerd. Stuff he was afraid you were gonna get hooked on the spices.
That's probably true get yourself a spice habit. Yeah but yeah i got that so i need to sit down and watch that because. I haven't it's been years since i've seen it that might be a you on your own uh. Okay. Or me, I could be doing my cross stitch.
You could be doing your cross stitch. I was thinking about watching that. Well, I do like Kyle MacLachlan. You do? And that's why I was like.
It's a young Kyle. Yeah. And Alicia, isn't Alicia Witt in it for like a hot second? I think she's the weird little princess girl or something. Yeah.
She's a little kid. What was the other movies you bought for me? I don't know. I just bought shit. No.
Okay. But yeah, I went back and got Cobra. Stallone, because I love Cobra. Cobra, I loved it at the time. I feel like now I would have to, like, a little...
I think even then there was a little irony to my, like... Yeah. It's so cheesy. Like, it is so. It is.
Like, the car is amazing, yet ridiculous. Oh, yeah. The match is just ridiculous. Oh, yeah. It's just there's so many...
The lines are fucking ridiculous. Oh, it's all... But I loved it at the time, so I don't think I could get away with... yeah oh dune is pg-13 it was 84 so i was like it's right there it could have been yeah yeah it was pg-13 yeah too much for your fragile little mind. Yeah well whatever but uh you know i was sneaking over to my friend's house to watch bloodsport so we. Know you're messed up by now so yeah obviously this is what did it but uh horrible movies warped your mind It's.
Just me just going back really and getting a lot of the old 80s action movies. So like, you know, Commando and Cobra and Missing in Action and Total Recall and.... Was Cobra one that we watched together? Yeah, we watched that together. Did we talk about that on the podcast?
I don't know if we did or not. I don't think so. What was your take on it? I'm assuming this was your first time, Misty? Yeah, I'd never seen it before, but it seems like for some reason...
I think I had a poster of it up my wall. Or you're thinking of mine, because I had a poster of it growing up, and then I transferred it onto the wall when we first started recording. You remember the old Falling Apart house that we started in? I had Cobra on the wall, and you were probably facing it, if I remember right. So that's maybe where you're melding these things into your brain.
What was that one movie with Schwarzenegger? That might have been what I had on my wall. Erasure? Erasure. Yeah, if you like Vanessa Williams.
I've never seen the movie. I just, I just watched it like in the last year. It's not bad. I picked up some like posters like for really cheap ones. And that was one of them.
I'm just like, sure, I'll put it up on my fucking wall. I had so many things. Like I was such a movie dork. Like I would just get any movie. So I was like, there were coveted ones that I would have to make a trip to like the flea market because there wasn't a fucking internet.
Like there was nowhere. Like I lived in the middle of nowhere, you know, here. And like there was nowhere to buy posters. So that dude at the flea market like changed my life. Every movie poster, every one sheet that I bought came from that guy.
And then later, as they got a little, like the more the promo stuff started coming out, I had a bunch of them that I would just get because it was a movie. And there were posters I hung up on my wall that to this day I still haven't seen. Yeah. Well, I got lucky. Because my mom worked at a, she worked at a, it was a gas station slash like little mini food mart.
And right when they started getting VHS tapes, They got movie posters to put up on the windows. So they wouldn't put all the movie posters up. They would, cause they didn't have that many windows. So I got like cliffhanger. Nice.
I've got, uh, I've got. A sense that you probably don't have them anymore. Do you? Huh? You don't have them anymore.
Do you? I still have them. Oh, you do? Yeah. Most of the stuff I have.
Yeah, but I got any. But they all look like crap because I was a kid. Mine are like in pretty good condition because I didn't really, there's a couple of them I hung up, but most of them I didn't. But I told my mom, I was like, grab me any of the martial arts ones. So I have like a lot of Cynthia Rothrock, like Lady Dragon and some other martial arts posters that.
I can't remember. Is there a Knights that she was in? I remember watching one of the first things that she did that was some sort of like, sort of sci-fi thing, but, like, if I remember, she, like, jumped up. There was a dude riding a horse. She jumped from the ground and kicked him off his horse.
And, like, I was like, I think she actually did that. Yeah. Like, it wasn't a special effect. I think she just did that. No, I got a Jackie Chan poster.
I've got, uh, man, what else? I can't think what the other posters are right off the top of my head, but they were, like, movies that I... Got, because they were martial arts movies. Oh, a kick, was it kickboxing? No, it's the one that's got Don Wilson in it.
I can't remember. Might have been Dragon Fist. Everybody, yeah, everybody got their, like, one movie chance at being an action star. I remember somebody listed something on Facebook lately, and they went through all the, like, Either like martial arts guys that were up and coming, like your Jeff Speakmans. Yeah.
It was like those guys that you got one movie, dude. You make it or you disappear. I've got one of his posters and I don't remember the name of it. I'm surprised I pulled Jeff Speakman. I completely forgot about that.
Where did this guy come from? Yeah. And then he had his one movie and then he disappeared. Anybody that was at the time a kickboxer, because American kickboxing was getting really big. So, yeah, people like Don Wilson.
Don the Dragon Wilson. Benny Ray. Was in a lot of stuff. Who is the British guy? He was in a few things, too.
Can't think of what his name is. He was in a couple of Jackie Chan movies. And then he had a couple of movies by himself. Yeah, I'm drawing a blank right now. But Mark Dacascos, which is crazy that he's still acting.
He's still in really good shape because I follow him on Instagram. And the dude's in amazing shape. We were talking about you and Mark Dacascos today. Oh, you were? Because we were talking about.
The controversy that is. How you actually like Mark Dacascos, but will not watch the Crow TV show. Yeah, no, I won't. Because we were talking about... The new atrocity.
Everybody in the world losing their mind over one photo of the crow. Oh, yeah. You know, fuck that movie. You know, I don't give a shit who they fucking put in any crow movie. There will be no other crow movie that ever fucking exists aside from the original that was made.
You know, you're just quoting everything I read over the last week. And never, ever. And I didn't, I didn't chime in on any of that. I saw it and ignored it because I. Eventually put a picture of a crow.
Yeah. Most of the people are like on there is like, I didn't want to get on there and go, you don't know how obsessed with this movie I was. Okay. I was like, I have a crow trunk. You have a crow tattoo.
I have a crow tattoo. I collected every single fucking thing I could get my hands on from this movie and almost got a stand up. And I tried to get a rapid fire stand up and I had already given the guy my money for it and was getting ready to put it in my car. And the lady that owned the video store goes, don't sell that. That guy just died.
That could be worth money. And I was like, And the guy handed me my $ 20 back and said, no, we can't sell this. I was just like, ah. But yeah, the VH copy of the movie before it even came out, because again, I had my mom worked at a video store. She ordered me an advanced copy before anybody got it on VHS, which was a big fucking deal back then.
Because remember, movies came out and then you didn't get the VHS copy for like How long? I mean, they came out at rental price, and then sometimes they, like, didn't come out at, like, a sell-through price. No. Sometimes it just was for the rental market, and they rode that out forever, but. Yeah.
Yeah. And I think at the time, I probably spent around $ 75, which was a lot back then to get a VHS tape. So, I mean, I've got, you know, I was a, well, you know, you grew up. grew up in the 70s, so, you know, you're a huge Bruce Lee fan, and then it was like, oh, well, he's got a son, and his son makes movies, and I like his son, his son's cool, and, uh, let's start buying his movies, you know, so I got really into it pre-Crow, yeah, so I just didn't, I stayed out of the whole thing, I'm just like, yeah, you know, everybody, that knows me knows my thoughts on it. And I'm just like, fuck that movie. It's funny.
Once you said that, I started thinking, I was like, actually it triggered. I remember that was one of those that didn't come through at a cheap sell through price. It did come out rental priced. And it was like a good amount of time before, because that being the, you know, video store dork that I was like, we, you would get them and like, we could special order them at like rental prices. Yeah.
But like people would come in and throw their little fit. They'd be like, oh man, I want that new movie. How much is it? It'd be like $ 99. 99.
They'd be like, what the hell? They'd freak out. The Crow was the one that we had, because then it might be like six months later, they'd mark it down and it might only be $ 24. 99. $ 19. 99.
The Crow was when we had multiple people come in and order it At the rental price. Yeah. We had several people come in and put down $ 99. 99 to order that. Maybe that's how much I...
Or. $ 79, whatever it was. I remember it was a lot of money. It was a lot of money. But I do remember. Because my.
Mom looked at me and was like, for a movie? And I was like, yes. I was like, you don't understand. And it was like, okay, whatever. You got a job, so get your money.
You can blow your money if you want to. But I remember grabbing newspaper articles. Uh, going, this is like at the very beginnings of the internet, getting on the computer at the library and printing out on like dot matrix paper, anything I could find like autopsy stuff. Not that I was obsessed, but just any newspaper clippings that I could find and find. Like, of course it was all just text, text file and printing everything out.
So, I had a folder of stuff that I had printed out from the library because I didn't have a computer. Because, you know, you had to be kind of rich to have a computer. Eventually, we had one for the entire family. Yeah. And, like, I remember still, like, looking up, like, specific nerd stuff.
Well, we did, too. And it was the early, early days of dial-up. And so, where they were. Yeah, it was a mess. Yeah, you couldn't download pictures online. uh at all so there was no uh it's gonna take about 15 minutes to download a picture.
No like it was two hours later it's still 40. Well no i don't think his computer was even even powerful enough to to download pictures and and it didn't have very good probably didn't even have a video card i don't know this was all text only. So those early days were rough man yeah they. Were but uh But yeah, I was a nut about it. I found the one I was thinking of.
So I'm going to ask you from the other end, do you know Kathy Long? Yes. According to this, she was like an actual kickboxer. And that's what, I mean, it seemed like it because I remember watching and it was called Nights. Kathy Long was the other one, yeah.
What's funny is, directed by a friend of the show, Albert Pune. Really? Rest in peace, Albert. He was an awesome dude. But he made a lot of those kind of movies back in the day.
Yeah, I forgot about Kathy Long. And pretty much all of his life. But, yeah, I remember watching this one, like, on VHS. And, like, it is one of those, like, because she hadn't been acting, I feel like, much. So, like, I'm watching this going, well, I mean, she's not much of an actress.
And then, like, she kicks that dude off a horse. I'm like, oh, that's what she's here for. Yeah. She can actually do this stuff. But, yeah, nice.
Surprisingly, I didn't realize Chris Christopherson's in it and Lance Hendrickson. Wow. Wow. I may have to rewatch this at some point. What was that guy's name that you.
Referenced earlier and i would. Speakman yeah just speak jeff speakman for some reason his name i guess because it's speakman always stuck as like the weird one-off dude that got his own like i'm gonna be the next one the next action guy and then like he just yeah. Kimpo kimpo karate that's what he was in and that's the popester i have. Is the yeah that's the one i remember the one right there the perfect weapon perfect weapon that's the one i remember yeah Because I don't even think I watched it. I just remember going, so this is.
Supposed to be the next big dude. No, I watched it. I watched it. I thought it was pretty good back in the day. But then remember, like, they started, like, any random, like, sports guy could also get a one-off.
Oh, yeah. They kept bringing in, like, all these football, the boss, got his own action movie. And, like, they just would rope anybody into it. Well, that's even, like, with the ninja movies. Remember Gymkata?
Oh, yeah. Yeah. You know, we're going to have this gymnastics guy, and he's going to be a martial artist. What is martial arts gymnastics? Well, he's an athlete.
Yeah, he can, like, flexible. He can do stuff, right? So that's what you've seen. Misty, what did you think of the last Scream movie? We got sidetracked.
That was not even a sidetrack. That was an entirely different journey. Wow, okay, so bring it back around town. Were we talking about yours? Yes, we were.
Because you were going to say what you thought about Scream. Oh, I'm sorry. I totally hijacked your shit, didn't. I? I just didn't want it to get lost.
I still want to hear what your thoughts are on Scream. Oh, I'm sorry. Okay, Scream 6 wasn't that good. So anyway, back to Jeff Spiegel. Yeah, back to Jeff Spiegel.
It was just the same bullshit. I mean, I love the Scream series up until this movie. I mean, I still like this one. I just feel like it's more listening. It was a rehash of the exact same shit.
It was, oh, who is the bad guy? Spoiler alert if you haven't seen these movies. Full spoilers, although we did an episode on it. Just skip on past for like a good 30, 40 seconds because I probably won't talk very long about it. But it's like, oh, who's the bad guy?
It's the parents and family of the person who got killed in the last episode. Every Scream movie. But, no, at least. Well, that's what I'm saying. I mean, I said this with the fourth one.
I'm like, so change it up. Like, dude, especially now. Like, now that they've lost their... I mean, their real star. I mean, granted, she wasn't the main star, but they lost the main girl who became a superstar.
And they now no longer have their director. So, like, they're losing all their people. Just don't even come back. Like, what, are you going to bring the twins back as the leads now? I don't know.
Like, so... I mean, I like the twins. But I'm like, I don't see them leading the franchise. So. I don't know.
I'm like, just do something else with it. it like totally mix it up if you're gonna even I mean it's just manufacturing money so they're not gonna stop making them but find something interesting to do. Don't just recycle the exact same plot. It's like, I like the reboot idea they did with 5, and like, okay, that has to be kind of repetitive because it's the nature of what it's doing, but just, I don't know, you can't turn around and do that again for 6. Which one had Emma Roberts? Uh, 4.
Is that 4? I like 4. I've said it so many times on this show, but I'm going to say it again. That's what I said at the time when we watched Scream 4. I was like, you've got the perfect chance to switch things up.
First of all, kill off Courtney Cox. Damn it. Right there in the barn killer. Then once we've got rid of her, like mix it up, like instead off Nev right there, like take out Sydney, like no offense. I like her.
She's really good even in five, but I'm just like, it would mix things up at the end of the movie, kill off Sydney. follow Emma Roberts. Like, she was such an amazing character. And I'm like, I know you made her the. Villain, but I'm like, who cares? Mix it up and follow her around and watch her, like, because she's so manipulative in it.
I'm like, let's watch her be a killer from the other side now. So we're not playing whodunit. We know who it is. We're watching her and we're watching her play these games with people and, like, maneuver her way out of situations and get to murder whoever the hell she wants. I'm like, wouldn't that be different and at least fucking interesting instead of oh, the family of somebody's pissed off and they're going to murder you wearing a mask.
I don't know. I just wanted to follow Emma Roberts because she's way cooler. I was happy that Kirby came back, though. Yeah, that was fun. I was sad that she just sort of disappeared and people just assumed she was dead after the end of that one.
So I'm like, well, we never saw her dead, really. I do like the theory that Stu's not really dead. I think we've discussed that one. That's been an ongoing one for years. Supposedly, he's in the background of number...
Was it number two? He literally was, but it's just him hanging out on set. He just came there to hang out, and they were like, come on, be in. The background of the party! Which still lends itself to me to be a whole other thing.
Creates a loophole. I like it, because, I mean, who knows? But, yeah, the numbers... It was just so exactly the... Don't...
It's so unoriginal. As soon as I knew he had a daughter, I'm like, oh, fuck, it's this guy. This guy, because he talked about his... Didn't he mention his son who died or something? I'm like, oh, fuck.
It's so predictable on this one. I was like, holy shit. No, come on. I almost like where they were going the first part. When they had the guys that were determined to finish the other guy's film, at least that would have been...
It was an interesting way to mix it up so that what we thought was going on in the opening scene, they like murdered them immediately. And like, that wasn't the thing. So I liked that for originality. It was different than the other opening scenes, but I'm like, as the rest of it unfolded, I was like, actually that first part was an original idea. Like you probably could have gone with that and done something cool.
Instead we get kind of similar to what happens every other screen. And I wouldn't even be minded it. Cause as much as I don't really like the whole thing about, Oh, it's Billy's daughter. At least if they had gone through with that and make her kind of, maybe she eventually does turn into a serial killer. And that's kind of where they were playing that back and forth game.
And I'm like, once again, I'd be like, it'd be kind of interesting if after all of this, like, I don't know, it might've just pissed everybody off. Maybe me too. I don't know. Cause we get like, especially by this one, like we get into them and like, we like these four characters that are left and haven't been murdered. And we kind of want to watch them.
So like it might, once you get that attached, I think it'd be different to that first movie. We wouldn't have been that attached. And we'd be like, ah, who cares? But no, Once you spit two movies with them, you're like. I want them to bring it all the way back around and the next movie have Nev be the killer.
I think it was kind of going there for a while and now I think they've just made her such a hero that they probably wouldn't do that. But again, that would have been more interesting in four than what we got. Maybe after all these years, Nev has finally fucking flipped. That's it. Everywhere I go, people get murdered.
I've lost it. You're gonna get murdered anyways. I might as well do it. Yep. I don't know.
I still think it's probably the most solid film horror series. Like, all the way through, I can even watch Six over most other bad slashery movies. I was so completely underwhelmed. I was just like, oh, that was a movie. And Boyfriend wouldn't even, since he left the room, he just kept leaving.
He was just like, I just got up and walked away. Oh, man. I don't know. I still like the series. I love the series.
I had fun with Six at the time, but I just, I do feel like it There's only so many times you can go back to that well, you know? And it's like, by the time we hit four, we were already doing like five is at least a reboot. So of course we got to kind of circle back around on it. They need to pull a Halloween three. Yep.
Just do something. Well, that's what I said. Like totally change genres almost by the time they got the four and like make it a freaking American psycho. Just follow somebody around killing people. Like who cares?
Like mix it up. But not American psycho too. Cause nobody likes that movie. I watched that. It was a movie.
I saw it. I own a copy of it. It's totally a movie. In the loosest sense of the word. Doesn't really make sense even as a movie, but it's a movie.
Who else is in that? I just remember Mila. Is Shatner in that? Yeah, maybe he is. Maybe I've blocked that part out.
I just remember Mila. Maybe I'm just making that part up. Not the cool Mila either. Well, I mean, she's always kind of a dork. That's why you like her, me.
Yeah, I liked her. Then she came forward talking about how good her co-star was even after he fucking raped people. That was a weird move on both of their parts. That 70s show. Oh, that Mila.
That was a weird move for both of them. I was like, guys, again, however you feel about it, but officially you should probably just shut up right now. You're going to get yourself in trouble. So, yeah, that was. Weird for both of them.
Don't defend this guy. It's not okay. Don't. There's no defending this guy. Don't be like, oh, well, he was good to me when I was 14 and he was talking about how pretty I was.
And I'm just like, dude, stop. You're not helping any. You are not. You are not. He's probably sitting in jail going, shh, shh, you're not helping.
Shut up. I don't remember her exact quotes. So do not, like, come after me on that. It was just weird making a public statement at all at that point. Like I said, just shut up.
Just shut up. Yeah. You're not helping and nobody wants to hear you. We've already decided. That's why he's in jail.
Like, nobody needs to hear your take on it. Yeah, not cool. Not cool at all. Yep. But.
But yeah, like I said, it was just, it was underwhelming and I was not a fan. It was predictable. That's what made the first one so fucking, the first one, I didn't, I didn't fucking see that coming. The first one, out of left field. It was a pretty original concept at the time.
I feel like, again, even watching it the first time, I was like, So many things about it were just done differently than the way they'd been doing slashers before. But then number five was just a rehash of the first one with it being the boyfriend. Which it's supposed to be. Again, like I said, it's a repeat of it on purpose. So I'm like, all right, I get why you're doing that.
That's fine. Whatever. And it was fun. But then the fact that six was a complete remake of two. And I'm just like, quit.
Stop. I know. We've beat this to death. So we just need to mix it up and do something else. Us in general or Scream?
I mean, all of the above, truthfully. Yeah. There's no hope for me, but Scream, I mean, that's still got potential. Does it really at this point? It's got a better chance than me.
Well, anything else you've had going on that you'd like to discuss? We've been watching the whatever most recent season of What We Do in the Shadows. Is this the fourth one, I think? Whichever one had fucking baby Colin growing up to like teen Colin. Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I think that was the one before this one. We're still trying to get caught up. I'm already kind of thinking the show has jumped to the shark because this whole season has just been a whole bunch of eh. I still like them. Again, I think it's just sort of some episodes hit better than others, but I still enjoyed it.
I don't like them trying to make Guillermo a badass. He's not a badass. Quit trying to make him, oh, he's a Van Helsing descendant. It's not viable. It's not.
I'm just, it's not. I just like him. It's hard for me to not like him. And it's, I like Nandor. And even he's just been kind of, ugh, this whole season.
And I'm just. Everything about it, maybe because we just started watching the whole thing from the beginning and watched it all in a row. Maybe I'm just getting burned out on it. Yeah, because I only saw them one season at a time, and it was a good year or more, usually, before the next one came around. Well, let's begin with my go-to cross-stitch background, because I'm sure Boyfriend got tired of all the murder shows, so I was just like, oh, we'll watch this instead.
And so the first two or three seasons, I'm like, god, this show is just as good as I remember. And then they get into the nightclub. The nightclub was stupid. The fucking dancing Colin is just, it's so stupid. It's so disturbing looking.
Everything about him as the baby was, like, just disturbing. And, like, I guess that's what they were going for. But, man, it worked. Like, it didn't look real. It just looked weird.
And it didn't look right. And it was just so annoying. And I just, I didn't like, I haven't really enjoyed any of this season that we're on right now. So hopefully it gets better. Hopefully it hasn't officially jumped the shark.
Because I do like this show. I do like these people. And I'm just, I'm not feeling it. I'm not even sure how far along. She's just burned her club down.
Spoiler alert. See i thought that was last season so i think they've done one more oh. Has it gotten better i was wondering did they change writers at some point. I don't know i don't remember it being drastic i mean they just change up the Which, I mean, there's only so much you can do with that idea. So I can see them, like, coming up with a whole different theme for the new season.
That's why I was like, at least the nightclub's, like, a different location. Like, it's just a different thing for them to do. But, because, I mean, how many things can you do with them sitting in that same house every episode? So I don't want to be one of the writers, is what I'm saying. I feel like you'd run out of stuff pretty quick.
Like, I was even okay with, like, them bringing out a boyfriend for Guillermo. But then for him to, in the same fucking episode, almost lose him to himself. What the fuck? That was weird. I just.
No, thank you. I would have rather at least explore him having a relationship and being happy. Don't just like, oh, I've got a boyfriend. Oh, Nandor made his wife look just like my boyfriend. And then they're together.
What? Spoilers if you haven't seen that one. You can go ahead and pass it. It's not good. All right.
Well, if we're caught up. I think we're good. I think we've rambled way too long. That's what we do. Yeah.
So thank you once again to Lexington Comic and Toy Convention for letting us come and be part of the fun. We had a lot of fun today, and we bought stuff, and we saw people, and we got autographs. So, yeah, it's all cool. No, I just meant the website. It's just Lexington Comic Con.

So it is continuing to find a huge audience. And they bring in bigger and bigger names, it feels like, every year. I'm just like, oh, I haven't even seen this person. Much like Julie. I haven't even seen this person in this part of the country.
Shannon Daugherty. Shannon Daugherty. I mean, Charisma Carpenter, for God's sakes. Come on now. So these were cool people.
And we got to see them. Barbara Eden. Barbara Eaton. I was just like. Priscilla Presley.
That one is. Like, I didn't... Well, I think we discussed maybe why she's doing it now. But I was like, in general, I was like, I didn't know if I'd ever see Priscilla Presley. Which we still didn't.
Well, we didn't see her. But just in general, doing conventions, you know? It's just like, at one point in time, I would have thought, nah, that won't happen. But, you know, it's a different world these days. And she's definitely living in a different place.
So, you do what you gotta do, you know? But, yep. I think it was a pretty... awesome day. So I'm glad we got to be part of it. So thank you once again to them.
Go get your tickets now and start making your plans for next year. Alright. Anything else to pass along? Nadine's eye patch was amazing. And I wasn't trying to be mocking.

Yeah, I guess so. But on some days I feel like I'm trapped in a hole. But I keep quiet. So the ones around me don't know. That the mountain feels so steep.
And they say that I'm here to help them carry the load. And the outside rains, they are there for the soul. Celestified in the darkness and everything's so cold. The day's not out of reach. And that's when you say to me.
Can you pull the curtains? Let me see. I think I'm done with my hiding place. And you found me anyway. It's been forever, but I'm feeling all right.
Tears dry. And we'll leave no trace. And tomorrow's another day. Let me see the sunshine shine. Let me see the sun.
Shine, shine, shine. Let me see the sun shine, shine. Where those weirdos sitting in a steamed up car in the middle of a fucking Value City parking lot. The hell you say. Value City furniture since they don't have any.
Value Cities anymore. Yeah, real Value Cities are gone now. What are you talking about? I miss Value City. They had some random shit sometimes.
You never know what you'd find in there. It's a magical place. Oh, my green dress in there. The one I tell you about all the time. The sad thing is I think I remember the dress.
It was majestic. It was very fancy. It was green. This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown. Produced and edited by The Oddity Studios, with the opening music performed by The Empires.
