Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power. Provide more cooling in. The containment chamber. To your stations, we have a movie meltdown. Jesus Christ, man!
There's just some things you don't talk about in public! What's up? Welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian. I'm Misty.
I'm Jake. And we're coming to you live via digital recording from Lexington, home of the Lexington Toy and Comic Convention. Woo! Woo-hoo! We've been coming to this for how many years?
A lot. I can't keep track anymore. How long has there been one? Because pretty much since then. I don't know.
Did we miss a year? Did they do one COVID year? The pandemic. Yeah, I think everything sort of was on hold that year at least, if not two years. But we are definitely back and in full force because there are a lot of people.
God damn, there's a lot of people. And wearing a lot of costumes. Oh my god, they're everywhere. This is maybe more costumes than I've seen in, I don't know. Well, they've been in hiding for the past couple of years.
I think that's it. I think they dusted off all the cosplay action and. Busted it out. Yeah, I think the anime voice people brought out a lot of people in costume today. Especially a lot of kids.
I've noticed a lot more kids in the anime. You know. It's becoming the whole new wave of kids. It is. It's a new wave of kids, even today.
Younger than my kid. And even my kid's to the point now where she's like, I enjoy the classics. I'm like, shut the fuck up. She's an old lady now. What classics is she talking about?
She's talking about Akira, Ninja Scroll. The only ones I've heard of usually. Yeah, Fist of the North Star. I've heard of DE. Yeah, stuff that I was.
Like watching a long time ago. We were trying, we had to have this, we had a local comic book shop where I lived and the lady who owned it Shout out to TBS Comics in Fort Walton Beach. She used to go to the huge Comic-Cons. I think she went to Japan a couple times. Before they were as commonplace as they are today.
Yeah, I mean, there were no Comic-Cons around. Especially, they didn't come out on the East Coast. And she would go and get anime and bring it back for us. She was your dealer? She was my dealer.
She got me a copy of. Crying Freeman, the live action that had Mark Dacascos in it that at the time you couldn't get because it was filmed. I think it was only available in Canada, but she got me a Japanese bootleg of it. I think it's in Japanese, but it's got English subtitles. What do you mean filmed live?
It's a live action. A live action. I thought you meant like They were doing like a production. No, no, no, no, no. It's like the Crying Freeman's an anime.
And she used to get me the novels, the graphic novels. In my head, I was picturing like a stage production, like Broadway. No, no. I mean, everything's a musical at this point. But the only way I'd heard of it was it was in Fangoria.
So Fangoria did this thing that had, gosh, I don't even remember what issue it was in. I just remember that Fist of the North Star was one of them. And then it had Crying Freeman. And I liked Mark Dacascos because he was in a lot of other martial arts movies that I liked. But I was like, holy shit, they made a live action of Crying Freeman.
I've got to get that. So she was able to get it for me and get it back to the U.S. And it's sad after all these years that I can't remember her name. I think her daughter runs the comic shop now. But every once in a while we go back down there and visit.
And they seem to be doing pretty good. So that's cool. I'm glad that they, you know, keep all the nerds going down there. Keep them supplied. Keep them supplied, yeah.
I mean, the market eventually caught up with them. You just had to wait like 30 years. Yeah. The world changed and catered to everything you've been doing for your entire career. Yeah, it was a small shop back in the day, and now it's like pretty huge.
Yeah. Again, it's just a market now. Like, there was nothing but a tiny little group of geeks that were buying stuff back then. But now, I mean, it's the main thing that they produce now. Yeah, and they do a lot of tabletop gaming and stuff.
They've got a whole big area dedicated to tabletop gaming, which is pretty cool. I don't do that. It's own crazy thing, yeah. Every time I go in one of those places, I'm like, this is like a whole other world. Yeah, and my kid's into that, but she doesn't do local tabletop gaming.
She does online tabletop gaming. Which I'm not even sure how that works. You can't use the same table. Yeah. It's weird.
They have. But they have. Tables all over the world. Yeah. She plays against people in like Russia and England.
And she's got her own little group of all these people from all around the world. And they get together and they play. What is it? Warhammer. Warhammer.
Yeah. So. That's kind of cool. You know. It's not like.
Not like the kids of our generation that gathered around, you know, the dining room table or in the basement. Basement. Yeah. And, you know, played D & D or. But how do they know there are Warhammer little lead figures there if they're in a different country?
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know how that works. It doesn't... I don't understand. But you know what?
That's cool. Whatever. Things have evolved. We're too old for that. We don't understand.
Yeah. Technology. You just are into it. Are you. You can still be old and still into it, but try to transfer interest this late in the game.
I don't know. Do we have any other stuff from today? We've already seen. I spent way too much money on Bronze Age horror comics. You have some horror comics going at this point.
I didn't even buy that many, but I mean... Usually I, like, buy dirt cheap shit, because I'm, like, thrifty with my stuff. Like, a dollar, two dollars, maybe three, but, you know. When they're five dollars a pop, I gotta limit myself, otherwise I could have bought, like, the entire fucking place, and then I'd be bankrupt, so. It is dangerous.
Yeah. But, yeah, going in there today, it's like, there was a pandemic a couple years ago? Because it didn't. There was not even, like, the slightest hint of it. I mean, everything seems like it's totally back to normal.
There's... Everybody came out in full force. There was... Maybe too many people, for my personal liking. Again, that's just us being antisocial as it is.
But, I mean, again, it's good that they're reloaded. I'm beginning to wonder, because there's so many day-to-day businesses that went under, and even places that are still out there, but I feel like the crowds never came back. So, I mean, it's good that these special event kind of things people are still coming out for, because... I don't know. Day-to-day stuff is not the same as it was even before.
Yeah, it does kind of blow my mind. A lot of people now would rather get Uber Eats or DoorDash rather than go to a restaurant and sit down and eat because they're like, oh, it's too many people. But then conventions come around and they're like, hell yeah, convention. Mm-hmm. Well, then they get all the people in out in one day.
Yeah, I guess. I don't know. Like, all right, I've had my quota of people. Now it's DoorDash for the rest of the year. Yeah, I guess.
I'm not even sure. I've said that for, again, the last several years, though. I was like, as it's gone on and I've seen people get more and more comfortable with that, it's like, I think it really is a thing. And like, I don't know that we're going back to the way it was. Like, I think a lot of people got real comfortable with Working from home and just not ever having to go out to get food.
Even now, the grocery brings you food. You don't even have to go to the grocery to get your food. Walmart brings you stuff. See, I didn't get that. I didn't do that either, but I know so many people that did that.
You can't weld. I can't weld from home. I mean, you can. I don't think it's going to be quite the demand as it is. Well, we don't have the infrastructure at the house set up to do the kind of welding that I do.
You need to work on it. Start building your wing. Oh, my God. Your hangar. It's so expensive.
Just the big truck door at the back of it. Yeah, I mean, there are a couple guys that have worked out of their homes, but they have. A lot of money. Yeah, I just know so many people that once it became an option, and now every week on the news they bring up that even the people that have gone back to the regular workaday world they're pushing for this four day work week now because I think everybody just got so comfortable. They're like, look, I can get stuff done.
I don't have to be here all day, every day. So it's like, they really have like cut back. And I think people appreciate. I would be all for a four day weekend. Well, I mean, but you still get paid.
That's the thing. The way they're doing it now, you work the same amount of, you know, you work four days, but you still get paid the same amount. And everybody is actually getting more stuff done. The productivity is way up on the places that have tried it. Well, yeah, because you get more rest and you get to spend time with your family.
And that's the thing. You get to spend time with your family and, again, rest, which is something most of the time during the week. I mean, I don't know. You're tired, but, man, I'm worn out. By Friday.
Yeah, I'm lucky to see the week. I come home and I'm falling asleep by the time I get home. It's just exhausting doing anything. Work. Who came up with this plan?
Not me. I don't like it. But again, it's good to see that this is. Still coming back. And it's still like all.
There's not like a drop in the amount of vendors. I don't know. It's not like, oh, well... everybody's gone out of business, there's nothing left anymore, empty tables. But no, it seems like there's just as many, if not more, vendors. Yeah, but I don't think these vendors are like brick-and-mortar stores.
And I think that's the thing that went out of business, whereas I think more people are still doing online businesses, and you're still seeing people on Instagram selling stuff, and people on Etsy and stuff like that. I think that kind of gave rise to that kind of business. Yeah, that didn't. fall off because people were just sitting at home they had nothing else to do so they probably have way more stock than before the pandemic because they just sat at home drawing stuff or making things and like now they've got a stockpile to come out and be. Like here buy all my stuff you know that's your lesson on economics yeah post pandemic from movie meltdown geeks. Are still out there they just you gotta go about it a little differently to get your stuff than you did back in the day a.
Lot of stuff a lot of people Which is good for the convention. They tried to do things differently this year by cutting off online sales. No, they only had online sales in that if you didn't buy your ticket online, you could not buy them at the door, which I think made things run a lot smoother. In fact, we got here like three hours after the door. We planned ahead to avoid the line, but it made it a little easier on our end anyway.
Yeah, that, and I think a lot of times it cuts out a lot of the people that are just like, what are we going to do today? Hey, there's this weird comic convention going on down in Lexington. Let's go down there and see what's going on. It cuts a lot of that out. The people that are just like, I don't know, that aren't really, I guess, invested in it.
Just random people. Yeah, just randos that show up, you know, and in the way. I don't know. There was a lot of things going on this weekend, too. I mean, you had this convention, you had, like, Another convention in Cincinnati.
There was one in Cleveland. So it's like. We're far from Cleveland now. Well, I know, but there's some people who might have come to this one. As far as guests, yeah, it kind of cuts into each other.
I mean, you're going to. Have Sam Raimi here, but then Bruce Campbell's in another one. Yeah. I mean, it has to be hard running these things. Or even the fans in general, because then the fan has to choose, do I go to this one?
Do I go to this one? Do I go to this one? Where do I go? It's like if you're driving already, you just got to pick which direction. Like, which way am I going?
So. It has become such a different market now that there are different shows and so many geek things kind of going on at any given time. Because before they used to be like, oh, we have like one or two shows to pick a year. And now it's like, oh, well, shit, there's like two or three conventions this weekend. Yeah.
You know? I think it's like that everywhere now. I think every, because each market has so many different cities that they can like, let's book one here, let's book one here, and like. I don't know. It just seems like a logistical nightmare for everybody that has to run the shows and then people trying to make it their business to end up at each one.
It's overwhelming. It is. I feel bad for the celebrities. Their appearance kind of leaned on somebody else being here and then they didn't show up. Yeah.
Yeah. Because I wonder if poor Crabman was in there. But Jason Lee's plane got canceled, so he'll probably be here tomorrow. Yeah, he's still scheduled to be here. But again, this is the logistical nightmare.
It's like two guests get their flights canceled, and then it like domino effect of everything. It's like you've got photo ops that have to be rescheduled. You've got people that were coming here just for a day to get them done. And now it's like, well, you got to reschedule for tomorrow if you want to do it. So it just changes everything with one minor adjustment like that.
Yeah. Poor Crabman. Poor Crabman. I mean, Jason Lee was one of the main ones that I thought about getting. Yeah, I definitely was considering it for quite a while there.
I'm sure his line would have been ridiculous. Probably. I would have got something from Mallrats. Mallrats is awesome. He's awesome in Mallrats.
I'm hitting. Even at the time, I didn't think it was great. I was so into Kevin Smith at that point. And the other two were such like peaks for me of like, this was, you know, when he was really doing something great. But Mallrats is kind of like.
See, we watched Mallrats all the time. I still did. But I was like, I see the weaknesses now. Yeah. Well, I mean, it's because I knew Jason Lee from skateboarding.
Yeah. You were saying that earlier. Yeah. He came out. He came out and skated at our local skate park with Blind.
He had skated for, I think, World Industries before that and then Blind. And I don't know who else he skated for after that because... Yeah, I can't remember. Then they were just like, oh, hell, he's in a movie, you know? Oh, shit.
And he was good. And that was the crazy thing was he was fucking good. I thought he was. I was going to say at which. It was like skateboarding.
Yes. I've seen, I just went back and saw the videos and I'm like, Oh yeah, he could legitimately skate. Oh yeah. He could legitimately skate. But that's what I think is so amazing about him and in Mallrats and then also Jason Amy.
It's like, he's so, he's got a charm to him. He's so natural about it too. It's like you're watching and no offense to London, but like London's like trying to get these crazy Kevin Smith, you know, lines out. And like, Jason Lee just sort of rolls with it. Like he's just so smooth with the way he brings that attitude and just like everything falls into place for him.
So again, I like the movie, but I love him in the movie. Like he in both of those movies is just like amazing. And London was another one who was sitting in there with no line and I felt bad for him too. Again, he's got a crazy beard now. Nobody recognizes him.
It's like, again, would he have more of a line of people who were actually getting Jason Lee? Possibly. Would they get any kind of bank on the, you know, dual autograph, the dual photo op? You'd always forget he was in Final Sky. Jason Lee?
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But he was in another movie. He's the friend there, too.
Yeah, he was in another movie that I really liked. And I'm trying to find it real quick. Alvin and the Chipmunks? Yeah. It's a romantic comedy.
Dude, I'm a sucker for romantic comedies. I am. I'm more of a chick than I am. Kissing a Fool. It's such a great movie.
I remember that one at the time. I remember it seemed weird when they slapped him on the cover of that tape, but I do not think I've gotten around to it. Who's the other? David Schwimmer, I think. I'm sure I offended somebody by saying that's a chick flick.
You're more of. A chick than me. It's definitely rom-com. Who fucking cares? David Schwimmer.
Am I going to get canceled? You're not anti-chick. No. But yeah, him and David Schwimmer are friends and he tries to. I'm anti-David Schwimmer.
Well, I'm not thrilled with David Schwimmer. It's a good movie. It is. Who's the female lead? Is it the Nev one?
Let's see. I'm trying to remember what it's called. IMDb? Again, I just remember the video cover. Oh, don't do that.
Okay. No, I have no idea who's in it. Never seen this. Yeah, yeah, okay, so his name's Jay. That's, uh, the.
That one you owe right there. Yeah. Uh, and his womanizing sports center, Max, which is David Swimmer, have been friends since birth. Jay introduces his editor, Samantha, to Max, and they hit it off. Max wants Jay to try to seduce Sam to test her before the wedding.
Which is. Who's the chick in it, though? Who plays the chick? Uh, let's see. Are you gonna tell me?
Mm-mm. Okay. Just going to... It's going to show me everything. You have to go back to the page.
It's going to show me everything else. Yeah, they've laid it out weird. Again, I hate everything on the phone. Okay. On my computer, I can find it just like that.
Okay. Millie Avital? You have no idea who that is. I don't know. I thought she was cute in the movie.
That's a key thing with your rom-com. You got to be cute. Yeah. But they put David Schwimmer in it. Yeah, you know.
I never quite got that one. I know people... It's weird to me, the amount of love heaped upon Friends at this point. It is atrocious. It's been on in the break room at work, and I cringe the entire time.
I mean, I don't hate it. See, I'd never seen Friends. Well, I watched it at the time, but I just don't remember totally getting into it. I watched it because it was a sitcom, and it was on, and I watched all kinds of crap. But it's funny.
As time went on, I watched more and more people just line up and be super dedicated to it. Yeah. Younger people that weren't alive when it was on are. So into it now. It's awful.
It's crazy to me. It's just abominable. I mean, Lisa Kudrow is awesome. I can't argue with that. She is the only highlight of it.
Yeah. Because she was in Romeo and Michelle's High School Reunion, which is another one of my favorite movies. Do you want me to post it? Huh? Yeah.
We learned about it in business class, huh? Yeah, I think it's funny because I forgot who it was. We had a discussion with movies and I said that that was one of my favorite movies. And they were just like, what? What?
That doesn't make any sense. It is one of those that didn't work even at the time. Like, I think nobody knew what to do with it because I thought it was hilarious. But I think it's great. It's so weird that like it didn't hit with normal comedy market.
You know, it's like people watching it were just like, what is this? And like. So then it had a weird reputation moving forward. So even now when you mention it to people, if they're not the right kind of people, they're just like, what? You like that movie?
The funny thing is the only way I knew about that movie, it's not like a movie that I was like, oh, this looks like an interesting movie. One of the guys that I trained with, he is friends with the owner of the gym that was used in that movie. And that's why I just was like... He was like, oh, yeah, my buddy's Jim's in a movie. And I was like, oh, what movie?
And he told me. I was like, oh, I have to check that out. And then watched it and was like, dude, this movie's hilarious. You actually did. Because most people who say, hey, I'll check that out, never do.
Never do that. Yeah. But it was one of those things probably. Where I didn't have anything to do and went to the video store. Video store?
Which one? Let's see. That would have been... Maybe Red Giraffe. It's going back a ways.
On Mid-City Mall, actually. And my friend Garrett used to work at Red Giraffe. And he was the one that probably found the movie for me. I probably asked him where it was at and he found it. What was that before?
What was it called before it got taken over? Oh, let's see. Because they were a good video. It wasn't Hollywood Video. It was like a mom and pop kind of deal.
Yeah, it was. At least one of our previous co-hosts worked there. Yeah, because I think Garrett worked there when it was whatever it was before it became Rachel Ray. Yeah, it was a great video store because they had a. Ton of weird horror.
And cult stuff. Just the people that worked there just ordered stuff because they. Thought it was cool. I rented Flash Gordon from there, I think. Or maybe it was Flesh Gordon.
Those are slightly different. I'm just kidding. But they were, I remember, they were probably one of the first video stores, and I remember it was a big deal. They were one of the first video stores that had like a gay section. Yeah.
Again, they were kind of pushing the envelope. They had a lot of different weird stuff that people weren't ready for back then. It was Barstown Road, though. Yeah. But that was a big deal because I remember one of my friends, Siobhan, was like, holy shit, they actually have a gay section.
This is awesome. So, you know, that was good for her. Yeah. Again, trying to find your, your niche back in the day. And this was pretty wild and wooly.
Before all of this, before all of this became super mainstream, it's like the geeks had to like seek out everything. Like even just watching movies was kind of hard to do, especially if you were into less popular stuff. It's like it, It was its own little world, just trying to figure out where you could go and find this. And figure out where you could go to get that movie. It was just a challenge for every step of the way.
Speaking of which, I just saw a story yesterday that they are bringing back five blockbuster videos in LA. Because people want the experience? Because, yeah. Are they going to be open-open or pop-up stores? No, I think they're legit brick and mortar stores again and like i guess they i mean there was still the one left last i heard so i guess the name maybe you can still license it and franchise it or something but supposedly yeah they're like people they're just really into it and like they're like we think our friends you know want to come back out and want to stand there and like physically look at movies and pick out something and so supposedly yeah they've got like a couple i think a couple are going in la and then a couple maybe in san diego or it's gonna be.
Like the same where you just rent stuff are they gonna have more options to buy stuff? Is it just going to stay there rental? Or is it going to be like, oh, and here's the stuff you can buy. It sounds a bit like it was more rental, but I mean. And here's some Pop Funkos, because those are every fucking way.
Yeah, again, at this point, it's become more of a hardcore fandom thing. So people are probably way more interested in buying a collector's Blu-ray than they are in renting it for a night. Well, you can't have the experience without going there. And it not being in stock. And it not being in stock.
And then having to pick something else. It does lead to, again, as we all learned back in the day, you'd get something else random because you didn't get to get what you thought you were going to get. And it actually turned out to be good. And you were like, oh my god, I would have never known this existed. Or it turned out really bad.
Or you end up with Suck and Blow is Jesus. And that's how we didn't officially get kicked out of that video store. I did yell that really loud. You did yell, yeah, well. I think we've explained it a long time ago on the show, but yeah, at some point we were in, was it Blockbuster?
I think it was Blockbuster on Bardstown Road. Was it on Bardstown Road? There was one, yeah. We were there for years. Down there where the old Highland Coffee used to be.
And we've always called him Suck and Blow. He has a real name. Jeremy Sisto. Jeremy Sisto, as far as we're concerned, is Suck and Blow. And there is a weird, I don't know if it was made for TV or made for TNT or something, but some sort of weird religious-y movie, and you suck and blow as Jesus, which is what immediately came out of your mouth at a very large volume.
I did, yes. Yeah, so I'm sure there were random people that were clutching their pearls. Oh, man. How dare you? My Jesus would never suck and blow.
Sacrilegious. I didn't even realize that was him in, uh, what was it, FBI? Yeah. TV show. He's got a solid gig, man.
I'm watching it all the time. Yeah, because I think, uh, clueless was on and so we just watched that because. It's my that's the only option for me if you're flipping through channels and clueless is on we stop we watch clueless no matter where you are in the movie it's a classic boyfriend's probably getting aggravated because like every no it's. Not it's i'm the same way with like hackers. Something she knows clueless is that totally paused it's ridiculous.
Because your social life Because, yeah, I don't think you've watched it in its entirety. No. Aside from any time that I've watched it. So I think, I think today, I think, well, not today. I think the last viewing was the most entire that you've.
The most entirety that I've seen it. And it was pretty much where they bring in Brittany Murphy's character. Yeah. At the tennis court. I miss Brittany Murphy.
She was so damn cute in that movie. She was adorable. And Alicia Silverstone was so hot. No joke, man. I'm serious, dude.
She was. And Paul Rudd has not aged. What's up with that? He's a. fucking Dracula. Yeah, I think so.
Ant-Man is a Dracula. Yell that now in a video store. Go find yourself a video store and then yell out Ant-Man is a Dracula. Because I was watching it with boyfriend and I'm like, it was the scene where they're all like, right before she takes a picture of Ty and they're all sitting around the fountain and I'm like, who would have thought out of most of this cast that fucking Suck and Blow is the one with the most recurring on TV, the most known. And then I forgot that Paul.
I was going to say, yeah, Ant-Man's probably the biggest money maker of the bunch. But yeah, Suck and Blow is not had a dip really he's he's never had a huge hit but he's been solidly working ever. Since then he was jesus but yeah because every once in a while because after jeopardy fbi comes on and so sometimes i just don't change it because it's not that bad yeah and it's got that one chick who i adore she was andy is it andy andy from reaper which was one of my favorite fucking shows ever. Although we always laugh about them always having a run in every episode it must be in all their contracts where they have to run The bad guy always runs, and then they always have to run after him. And they always catch him unless somebody pulls out and blocks their way.
Yeah, that's the thing. The big trucks always got to be backing up somewhere. It's New York. There's garbage trucks all over the place. Or glass trucks.
It's always something. But anyways, because you're like, who is that? What are you talking about? Who is this that we watch on TV? I'm like, that's fucking Jubal from FBI.
And you're like, what? and then he started talking and you're like oh yeah i can kind of yeah because you can kind of still hear it in the voice because he has a very distinct voice you know yeah he definitely does he's such a dick in that movie and then you were like well because that you saw turk and you're like he's a baby in this movie yeah just even everybody's so young in that movie except stacy dash because she's damn near 30 in that movie but you can't tell because she's still hot. She hit it pretty well she looks She looks grown, but she can still almost skate by in high school. Because she was, what, 27, I think, when she made Clueless? She does not seem 27. That movie is...
I don't even care. Always. If it's on, we are stopping. And I will watch it, and I will randomly yell quotes all the time. It is awesome.
I don't have a problem with 90s movies, so... Not at all. Like, I went back and re-watched, uh. Oh, is it Suburbia? I liked that at the time.
Giovanni Rubini? I have not seen it since then, yeah. Yeah. I want to. There's a lot of.
Because I don't think it's even in print anymore. No, I had to watch it off YouTube. See, I thought it was on YouTube. I thought that was the only place I'd found. Yeah i went back and watched it and there's a lot of a lot of my life that ties into that movie and uh i was just like holy shit it's like i identify with giovanni rubisi's character a lot in some of that and in some aspects i don't but in a lot of it i do i'm just like what the hell But a lot of the characters that are in that movie are a lot of the people that I grew up with.
I can almost name each, yeah, that's this character, that's this character, my buddy so-and-so, that's his character. I love that they coordinated their outfits. We should do that. We kind of are. Oh.
Well, it's cute when we do it. It's because we're wearing jeans and black t-shirts. That's unusual. You won't ever find that at a convention. Nope.
Well, sort of, if we're hitting some of what we've seen lately. I've got one. Now, I know what the answer is going to be for Jay, because I've had this conversation many a time. Okay. But I was revisiting.
I don't even know why. I think just because I saw a copy of it, and I was like, man, I have not seen any of those other sequels since then. I watched the third Crow movie. Which one was that one? Edward Furlong?
No, that is the fourth one. This one is Eric Mabas. I only know him from... Ugly Betty? No, Welcome to the Dollhouse.
He's in Ugly Betty, too. I don't know his name. I think that was already rolling by the time I heard about it, and then I never caught up on Ugly Betty. I do like her, but I just never went back. No, I refuse to watch any Crow movies.
It's not the original. What about the TV show? Uh. I know you like it. It's got Mark Dacascos in it.
And I'm just kind of like, eh, you know. And Mark Dacascos didn't say anything bad about Brandon Lee. Did Eric Mobius? The second guy from the second movie. Vincent Perez.
Yeah, I think he said something. I almost caught him. He kind of said some bullshit. Well, I guess that's why I skipped right to the third one. Because I have not seen the second one since the theater afterwards.
And it was an atrocity. And I was just like, no, I can't. Well, it didn't need to be remade. And, you know, the other thing that, okay, you know, this is one of the reasons why Misty and I get along so well is spitefulness. My friend, like when the second one came out, he goes, you're going to see it.
He said, you will one day. He said, you'll see the sequels. And I said, no, I won't. He goes, one of these days you will. You can't avoid it.
Guess what, motherfucker? How many fucking years has it been since the original came out? I haven't seen any of the other sequels ever. How many have there been total? I thought it was just those four.
I mean, they're doing the... That's kind of the other thing I was bringing up, just because I'm like, they're still talking about doing another one. Last I heard, and yesterday, saw photos that I feel like people just made up. I think they just like... Who are they saying is going to be...
It was freaking Aquaman. What's his face? Jason Momoa. Yeah. He doesn't need to be in anything.
I don't know. He just doesn't fit. Yeah. He's like a big giant dude. So like that doesn't seem like Draven to me, but maybe it's a different version.
See, now I had heard that. Alexander or not. Yeah. No, I heard Bill Skarsgård. Yeah.
At one point, that's what I heard. And then I heard, so it's gone back and forth. I don't know. I don't know. But, and people were so bent out of shape about that.
Like, They got so upset when they were talking about making the fifth, or making the remake, and I was like, they're like, oh, that's terrible. They should never make another one. I was like, did you miss the other four? Like, what? There's three other sequels to it, and they're all terrible.
Edward Furlong was awful. Oh, it's a mess. It's like, just leave it alone. It doesn't need to be remade. That's like people talking about remaking Big Trouble in Little China.
You know? What could you do? Like, how could you improve upon that? Which reminds me, they're remaking Vertigo. Yeah, I mean, they've tried that stuff before.
It just. With Robert Downey Jr. Yeah. I mean, he is a weirdo. I mean, that is a weird movie.
Like, it's odd that they cast Jimmy Stewart. I mean, he's, like, so... And definitely at that point had that, like, clean-cut, all-American, good guy kind of thing. Because once you get into Vertigo, like, that character is messed up. And, like...
I don't know. It's, like, mentally a weird spot to throw Jimmy Stewart. So, that was odd casting at the time. So, I mean, I can actually see more of a Robert Downey Jr. being a creepy stalker dude. Like, wants to turn women into other women because he's obsessed with her.
So, I don't know. Maybe... Eric Mabeus? Maybe I've always just said his name wrong all these years. Or maybe I was thinking about Morbius.
Like, it's a really bad movie. Or the artist. So... Going back and re-watching The Crow of Salvation. What was your opinion of it?
See, that's the thing. I hadn't seen it probably since, I don't know. I can't remember if we watched it a million years ago. I forgot Kirsten was in it. Yeah, Kirsten's in it.
I don't know. But it's like, that's the thing. I'm watching it. And Fred Ward! I know!
I mean, I was surprised the rest of the cast. I was like, Fred Ward's awesome and everything. Didn't he die? Except Burt Ward's dad. Fred Ward did, yeah, just recently.
Fred Ward died. And then William Atherton. Who's Burt Ward? Robin. Oh, I don't know.
I don't know the familiar connections. I don't know either. I'm just being stupid. Also, going back, again, it was so long ago, nobody had a clue, but a very small role by Walton Goggins. I like him because he's got weird teeth.
That's not why I like him, because he was in Justified at Which Boyfriend Won't Watch With Me, but it's one of my favorites. And that's got, what's his face that I love? Timothy Ellison. One of these days I might watch it. No, you won't.
I'm going to be in the mood for it. You're never going to be in the mood for that. Which, you like Timothy Olyphant, though. I don't understand the problem. You like Timothy Olyphant.
I think just because it's set in Kentucky. Oh. They didn't shoot it. But my aunt likes it. What?
They didn't shoot it here. No. So, you know, it makes it a little easier. It's based in Kentucky. I'm just kind of like, why?
Why would I care? Because Timothy Olyphant is amazing. Yeah. But, yeah, as far as that one, as I got into it, because I didn't really even remember the plot, and I'm like, oh. There was a plot?
It's the same thing. I'm just like, why would you... If you're going to take that concept and just do something else with it, that's cool and all. But as we get into it, I'm like, oh, so it's a guy and his girlfriend gets killed and then he wants to be with her. So he comes back and he has to kill the guys that killed her.
Wait, this is exactly the same damn movie. So... And then I was like, okay, well, the Kirsten Dunst is her younger sister. And she was, like, that was right at that point. It was just before the Spider-Man, and she sort of became the huge thing that she was.
So she was still kind of, she reads a little younger. I also wonder if it sat on the shelf for a little while, because she seems a little younger than it, like a year later, she's in the Spider-Man. But, yeah, I was like, oh, well, she's kind of the difference, because she's in there, and she's, like, the one that remembers her sister. And I was like, wait, no, that's the little girl in the first croak. Like, this is exactly the same shit.
Sarah? Yeah, I was like, it's the same stuff. So, yeah, I mean, but it looks interesting. Like, they did bring in some, I don't even know this director. I looked at it, and I was like, oh, well, visual style's pretty cool.
Like, they really did go for a nice gothy look, and like, it's got some interesting shots, but like, it just doesn't really do anything different, and certainly not better than the first time around, and no offense to eric but he is certainly no brandon so it's like what are we doing here because his makeup's weird anyway i never quite i'm like why is there an extra little line over here i'm just critiquing his makeup the whole time and then yeah there's just so many times where i'm like it even goes through the same little motions of like you're murdering the people and leaving some sort of like fiery crow something or other i don't know he leaves some sort of crow calling guard and i was just like yeah what we've seen this like why don't you do something different with this idea and And we still never quite pin down the mythology of what happens with the crow and when do you get injured and when do you not, which got jacked up in the first one anyway.
So it's like they don't ever really pin down a lot of that stuff. Once again, it's still just sort of left to be like, oh, well, when we need to make use of this, we'll work in that if they hurt the crow, then he can be hurt. It just seems so convenient. I don't know. Do you know any of the Crow mythology?
Oh, you're busy watching baby skunks. So you not only will not watch the movie, you will not listen to stories. It's probably more. Oh, I know it's more watchable than that second one, but again, it just doesn't do anything different. Like it's the same beats just done.
Not as good. So yeah, I just, that was my dad. And by the end I went, wait, why did I watch this? I just wasn't, I was not overwhelmed. It was totally watchable.
Can you imagine how it would have been if they'd gone with their original director? Oh. Rob Zombie. For the third one? Yeah.
I'm sure I would have been just as annoyed. That's what I'm reading for you. But once again, visually it would have looked great, I'm sure. He would have just set it in the trailer park. Actually, he had been...
I don't know. It's like there was going to be one called The Crow 2037? But that was at 2000 time range? When it was announced, Rob Zombie... Let's see it.
August 1997, when it was announced that Rob Zombie would make his directorial debut with The Crow 2037, covered Casey and the Sunshine Band's I'm Your Boogeyman for the soundtrack for The Crow City Evangelist. And after seeing Rob Zombie's work on the video, he produced the song. Edward Pressman offered Zombie the opportunity to helm the third chrome film had the film been made so maybe it was a different a scrapped version yeah yeah had the film been made zombie plan to shift focus and tone from the revenge angle of the previous two entries to a more horror-based approach well it might have. Been interesting yeah i mean it would have at least potentially done something different yeah which the third one did.
Not Because it just seemed to me, and probably the reason why I never wanted to watch any of the other ones, is it just seemed like all they tried to do was remake it. Okay, here's what, here's what. The film would have began in 2010 when a young boy and his mother are murdered on Halloween night by a satanic priest. A year later, the boy is resurrected as the crow. 27 years later, and unaware of his past, he has become a bounty hunter on a collision course with his now all-powerful killer.
What? How would he grow old if he was resurrected? He got older? I don't know. No wonder it was scrapped.
But at least it's different. At least the idea is something different that I would probably watch. I don't know that I'd like, but I would probably watch. That's just what the Wikipedia says. It could be all bullshit.
Somebody could just be like, I'm going to put this on the Wikipedia. And somebody's going to believe it. I don't fucking know. You can't trust the internet. You can't.
It lies. Just trying to see what that director did. Downtime, Killing Time, Crow Salvation, TV series, TV. Series, TV series, TV series, TV series. Looks like he graduated into being a couple of episodes here, a couple of episodes there on a lot of different TV series.
He's done one episode of The 100. Never watched it. So, yeah. Oh, wait. He directed The Man Who Invented Christmas.
Well, isn't that not at all like his other work? He Bob Clarked that shit. So, yeah. It looks fine and all, but yeah. Not at all original.
Kirsten does what she can. Sometimes that's not much. There's just not a lot for her to do. There's no salvation. Not for us.
Or any of the characters, really. No, not to spoil anything, but it's pretty grim as it goes on. I was like, is everybody in this movie getting killed? Like, they just start off in people, more or less. You assume all the bad guys are going to die, but half of the other people that you think might make it through, they just start off in people.
So, yeah. There's a lot of dead people in that movie, too. So, not necessarily fun. Did you watch anything else? Because I haven't watched anything else.
We tried to watch a movie. Does that count? Alright, what did you attempt to watch? Boyfriend. What?
Cannibal something or other? Apocalypse. And why were you excited about watching this movie? Because they had John Saxon. John Saxon's awesome.
He had to have his shirt off at some point. Well, who doesn't want that? Oh yeah, I kind of remember that now. I kind of remember the, yeah, that was kind of a weird scene. I'd totally forgotten about that.
Oh, I just quit watching. Why did I quit watching? Because you were like, oh, fuck this movie, and we turned it off, and. You found something else. It must be one of those slow burn movies.
Because it was. It was really slow. And then I was just like, I need something with more action in it. And then whatever else I picked, I fell asleep. What did I pick?
I don't remember. Me neither. I probably fell asleep. Or did we just spend an hour looking for something, and then it was bedtime? Yeah, maybe.
Maybe that's what it was. That happens a lot. You know? Because, yeah, we didn't really see any cannibals. And there was definitely no apocalypse.
No, there wasn't any apocalypse. Maybe it happened later on in the film. I don't know. I don't even think it did. I don't know.
No, there was just some really weird scenes with the. Underage neighbor girl? Yeah, the underage neighborhood girl that was trying to seduce John Saxon. Which, I mean, do you blame her? Oh.
But, yeah, I should say, what? No. Well, I did watch something and I specifically held onto this until we can talk again because occasionally you'll mention like a lot of times series and I don't always get around to series cause they're like long and it takes a long time. And so, um, I want, and half the time I don't have whatever channel, every, everybody that recommends stuff to me now, it's like, okay, what channel is that on? Well, I can't get it.
Like I can't get every streaming service. I want to watch yellow jackets. I don't have that. Oh my God. I want to watch it too.
I don't have that channel. I want to see zombies with the Mandalorian. I don't have that channel. Stop putting it on channels I don't have. So, that aside, after I signed up for, and this is the reason why, the last season of Only Murders in the Building, I had Hulu.
And I was like, alright, I might hang on to this for a little while. Let's see what else is on here that I wanted to watch. And then I came across Future Man. Oh my God! And I remember you telling me about Future Man.
Fucking awesome. Did you watch all the series? I have seen season one. And it was epic. And it was epic.
And then I was like, cool, let's roll into season two. And it sucked. What the hell is going on? Like, talk about a hard left turn. And then I was like, well, okay, they're just kind of getting their footing.
They got to figure out, you know, they're doing a very different thing this season. Let's let them get it going. I'm about four episodes in. I'm just like, They still haven't figured out what the hell. Is going on.
They never do. That was just, it became super depressing. I was like, this future sucks. Well, that when you have in a cast that works, it works so well off each other and then you just fucking separate. Yeah.
They're all separate almost the entire time. Like there's a handful of times they cross over and then by the end, the three of them are together. And that last like two episodes were kind of fun because there was a bigger plan and an adventure and it at least got watchable those last couple of episodes. But everything up until then. I like season two.
I needed a break after two. I was like, I'll come back to it. But I'm like, I need to watch something else now. Season one was so... Season one was so much fun.
Awesome. So good. Like, so good. That guy who plays Wolf. Derek Wilson.
Yes. He is pretty epic. I was watching it going, how do I not already know this guy? Exactly. He's pretty awesome.
And I've seen the Eliza Coop. And like, she's normally... Like, I remember... I think. I don't know which season was the...
Wolf... Corey Wolfhart. That's still the first season. That's why it's awesome. Because it's the first season.
Every time I hear Corey Hart now, I just laugh. I'm like, oh, well, you know good music. Oh, my God. It's so good. But yeah, the Eliza chick, I think I remember mostly from Happy Endings.
And she's like the super uptight chick. She's the one with a job and the responsible one of the bunch. And I was just like, what is this? At first, I thought it was recasting. I was like, this doesn't seem right.
And then almost immediately, I was like, oh no, she totally works in this role. She's a badass. So yeah, she's super fun in that role. Not what I expected from her. Love, love, love.
The first season. That first season is epic. I remember in the third season. I can't remember if you liked it or not. Which one was the third season?
I don't remember, but I remember. I'll let you know as soon as I get to it. Third season is not the one where they're... Is it. The one.
I don't remember now. But I remember liking it. I remember liking it better. Is third season where they're on the game show kind of thing? Yeah, because I just, at the very end of the last second season, they go into that.
So I was like, all right, I'll at least come back to it. Is that the one that has Haley Jo Osmond in it? He's in a lot of the second season. Okay. Because he's in the first season.
And I remember thinking, like, as it went on, I was like, oh, he kind of disappeared. I was like, It's weird that they bothered to get Haley Joel Osment, and then he's not, like, they don't really make use of him. He's just, like, in a couple of episodes at the beginning, and he's kind of a dick, and you're like, oh, well, good thing he's gone. But then he totally is a huge part about the second season, but it's a shame it's in the second season when I'm just like, oh, my God, this whole thing has gone off the rails. Yeah.
It's something. I don't know. I'm still, I guess, glad I watched it. We'll see how I feel after the third season. But, yeah, that first season.
It's so much fun. I don't remember Tiger. Who's Tiger? Is that the chick? Yeah.
I can't remember her name. That's what it was. She's Tiger. I just remember Wolf because that was the main reason I liked the show was Wolf. Which is funny because he was in Preacher and in Preacher you kind of don't like his character.
Yeah, because he's like a... I hate his character. Do you ever watch Preacher? No. Again, it was one of those that people have told me about and I'm just like.
I can't. He's kind of an abusive dick, isn't he? Yeah, he's abusive to his wife. But then doesn't she kind of like it? Yeah, you find out that she's like into it and you're just like, okay, wow.
Or am I making that part up? No, I think you're right because then you're like, wow, okay. Weird. It's been a long time since I watched it so maybe I made that part up. I don't know.
No, I think you're right. Domestic abuse is never okay. Because I think she tries to end up bringing the preacher into it with all three, or with them and it gets really weird. Oh, yeah. Swinging preacher.
The preacher was pretty hot. Well, It is perfect casting, though, because I thought the Joss Hutcherson thing, I was just like, what a weird. I thought it was weird because, again, knowing his previous roles and what he's kind of known for, I was just like, is he going to work in this action-adventure-sci-fi thing? And then we get in and I'm like, he's the biggest dork in the world. I was like, oh no, that's perfect casting.
It's funny because we worked with this guy, I don't remember what his name is, but we called him... One other friend that I worked with saw future man but we called him joosh and he didn't know why but he was the joosh character he he was just a failure at life and everything he did at work he tried to do a good job, but man, he just... Failed. He just failed so hard. At everything.
Yeah, everything. It was just like, dude. Oh, his name was Rocky. And we were just like, dude, he is just all the time getting beaten down by life. He was a nice guy, but it seemed like he just got shit on by life all the fucking time.
And our boss hated him. Our boss just couldn't stand him, which I never did really understand. And we were just kind of like, I don't understand why he doesn't like him. My boss is just like, I don't like him. He's just a fucking loser.
I was like, oh, okay. Well, he could still be nice to people, but no. I don't think that's how the world works. No, that's not how my boss works. Have you seen anything else?
No. I've been doing cross-stitch, and that's been a lot of not watching stuff. Books. It's a whole new adventure. Yeah, I've stabbed myself so many fucking times.
Do you want to... I mean, we're not really sponsored by them, but do you want to give a plug to your road trip? Oh my god, we went on vacation. And the highlight of my vacation, we went to. It says a lot about you.
Huh? It says a lot about you. The highlight of my vacation. Well, aside from going to bookstores, which is, honestly, it's the main highlight. I have, like, three highlights.
Obviously. Well, because, I mean, it wasn't really a vacation. It's going on to Florida to do boyfriend's mom's list of shit to do. It's a working vacation. Yeah.
But anyways, we went to Bucky's three times. Three briskets. It was amazing. If you have not had Buc-ee's briskets. Three different Buc-ee's.
Three different Buc-ee's. What region? Because I know we didn't have one here until recently. Texas and mainly the South. Have they all been creeping up from the South?
We went to Buc-ee's in three different states. I believe it. Two different states. No. Who was it three?
Kentucky. Alabama. Alabama. Alabama. Oh, the other one was Alabama too?
Yeah, the other one's in Milwaukee. Two states. Alabama's a weird place. It's probably a subsection of Alabama. Anyways i thought i was you forgot which state we were in i was too delirious on bucky's state of brisket dude shit if you have never had the bucky's brisket you don't know what life is.
It's worth the investment i think so because we were discussing earlier people said it's not cheap but it's worse. Because even you were like that's pricey for a gas station. Gas station sandwich it seemed a little pricey but i was like i know it's it's a refined taste it's it's only the cool people that know to go get the brisket at the bucky's are gonna indulge in this and like that's why you're willing to pay. I mean bucky's in and of itself is an experience i mean it is somebody might say it's just a gas station it is not just a fucking gas station they have like it's like it's rows and rows of pumps over 100 gas pumps oh my god And they have their own brisket. They have Bucky Nuggets.
I can't even say it. Beaver Nuggets. Beaver Nuggets. Beaver Nuggets. Beaver Chips.
Oh, wow. But yeah, dude, brisket. Jerky. They have all their own jerky. They have a deli for snacks, like cookies and brownies, which I can't have because I'm a fat kid.
But that brisket, that was worth the guilt I felt for cheating on my diet. Cheat day. It was a cheat week. We were on vacation for a week. I was on vacation.
Yeah. We had Bucky's. and briskets three times. And we also went to Water Burger three times. So I went to Water Burger. You drove me there, but then you did not partake.
And then I had three Dr. Pepper milkshakes, which were glorious. And I'm pretty sure I gained back all the weight I lost. You have very specific needs in your life. And they are Water Burger Dr.
Pepper milkshakes. Can you imagine if we could get the perfect meal of a Water Burger Dr. Pepper milkshake, which the more I say it, the more I can try to get it to show up on my hand. the water burger, Dr. Pepper milkshake, and a Bucky sandwich together in one meal. Magic.
Dude, let's make this fucking happen. How far away is one from the other? Yeah, you're going to have to MapQuest this thing. MapQuest? Who the fuck MapQuest shit?
Somebody referenced that the other day. I was like, wow. I remember having tons. Of printed out sheets stuck in my vehicle at the time. Map questing my way around the world.
You always ended up taking it in the wrong spot. You ended up in a lake. Nobody corrected you at all when you went the wrong way. Nobody was recalculating. They were just like, keep driving the wrong way, dumbass.
Into the lake. Then you have to ask directions. I don't think that's a thing. I don't think you're allowed to do that. I got my picture taken with Bucky.
And the statue. Totally redirected back to Bucky's because it's one of my favorites. It's an experience and I hate people and there are always a lot of people and I'm usually just like, Bucky's, Bucky's, Bucky's, what can I buy at Bucky's? I feel like I must always buy something there. At some point you'll have the Bucky statue in your home.
At some point there will be a cult of Bucky's and I will join that cult. And I'll be okay with it. What did you say? When the world ends. I said when the world ends, we'll be in the cult of the beaver.
We will. Proudly, too. I'm going to start writing this movie. Wait a minute. Beaver apocalypse.
Hold on. Zombiever is one, but that's not the same. I don't want a zombie beaver. I don't want zombie Bucky. He's too wholesome for that.
I love Bucky's. It's... Good god damn. I mean, it is, like I said, but it's like, what, $ 8 for like one sandwich? I don't know.
I get the XX or the XL sandwich. The grande. The grande, yeah. Apparently he's got, I think he's got tacos too. I know.
Nice. But it's always like, no, brisket. Why aren't we going to, why aren't we getting brisket for dinner? How far away is Bucky's from here? Bucky's is probably about 30 minutes from here.
20 minutes. It took them 24 hours. That's what we went to. Oh, it's 41 minutes. It's 41 minutes from here.
Sad days. Well, speaking of the old Lexington Comic and Toy Convention, we're back to. Back to the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention. I'm going to go back inside right now. So, I think that's where we're going to leave it so we can go in there and see what's going on.
So, In the meantime, you can start preparing for your trip there. Go to LexingtonComicCon.com and see what they've got working next time. And go ahead and get your passes. Again, as you said, buy them ahead of time because that's the way to do it. That's how the world works now.
So plan ahead, plan your trip, and go get your tickets now. Or as soon as they allow. And then go to Buc-ee's. It's 41 minutes from here. Yeah, you're road tripping anyway.
Stop at a Buc-ee's. Alright, well thank you to Lexington Comic and Toy Convention for letting us be part of the magic. And I'm going to go head back in there right now. So, unless you guys have anything else to pass along to people. No.
Georgio! Otherwise, I know how it does it. We will return next time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening. Bye.
Bye. Just a little more time is all we're asking for. Cause just a little more time could open, close the door. Just a little uncertainty can bring you down. And nobody.
Wants to know you now. Nobody wants to show you how So. If you're lost and. On your own You can never surrender And if your path won't lead you home You can never surrender And when the night is cold and dark You can see, you can see light Cause no one can take away your right To fight and to never surrender. With a little perseverance you can get things done.
Follow blind adherence that has conquered. Some And nobody wants to know you. Now Nobody wants to show you how You're lost and on your own You can never surrender And if you're blind. Never surrender And. When the night is dark and dark You can see, you can see light Cause no one can take away.
Your right to fight And to never surrender, to never surrender. When the night is cold and dark, you can see, you can see light. No one can take away your right to. Fight, to never surrender, to never surrender. Oh, look at that car over there that I just now saw.
You just now saw it. Yeah. What car? The horse. Okay.
You see the one with the green and white with horns? Oh, yeah. I did not notice. Rowdy. Sorry, go ahead.
