I'm Sean Gunn and you're listening to Movie Meltdown. Movie Meltdown. It's showtime. The following feature has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.

Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power. Five more cooling in the containment chamber. To your stations, we have a movie meltdown. I'm here to talk to you about the Avenger Initiative. What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown.

I'm Brian. And I'm your prime fanatic, George. And we're coming to you live via digital recording back in the Oddity Studios. It has been a weird run lately. Mm-hmm.

Things have kind of sucked in regular life. I won't go into all of them. Some of which, if you're on Facebook, you may have seen. There's a whole nother horrible thing I didn't post on there because it's bigger and more horrible. And so, yeah, terrible things.

But I won't go into those and drag the show down, hopefully. But I will say I'm in the process of all these ridiculous, terrible things happening. I'm reassessing life in general. And obviously you're listening to this, so I've decided this is important. I want to keep doing this.

The thing I'm going to. Throw out there to people is what do you want us to do? Because I'm to the point of like, I don't... There's a lot of stuff I used to kind of worry about with the show or try to do with the show. And as time went on, I went, I don't really care.

So I'm to the point now, I'm just like, I'm just going to do what I want to do, which is why we're here doing this. That's right. And why we just did the Horror Club episode. Not that I like... Hanging out with my friends and talking about movies.

That's pretty much it. So if you guys want anything else, like there was a thing I was supposed to go do last weekend, and I wasn't up for it. I was just like, I don't feel like it. I don't know that anybody out there is going to care either. So here's my thing.

Email in. Let me know. If you want us to do anything specific, if you want us to do any of those things we maybe used to do before and haven't in a while. Let me know. If not, I'm going to do what I want to do and what... the rest of the cast who shows up somewhat regularly.

As long as you guys are having fun and we're doing stuff we want to do, that's all I'm going to focus on. So you guys let me know if you have other thoughts. Email. If you're a grandparent, you can Facebook. I don't know.

Whatever. I don't bother with most other social medias because they're all annoying. Well, I've got an idea for you here. Whether you and I want to do this or whether you want to do this for the horror club or not. All right.

The subject would be banned movies. Movies that have been banned either in the United States, overseas. Or the Video Nasties. The Video Nasties from Great Britain. Whatever the case may be.

But movies that were banned, ones you particularly liked, and maybe why they were banned. Well, definitely the one I wanted to get back with you and get going. We threw out our sort of ridiculous movies or drive-in movies. Oh, yeah. All of our weird stuff that we started doing.

Earlier this past year, but we got sidetracked again. Many things didn't happen in the last several months. So that's one I want to come back to. Yeah, we've only seen one of the Bronx Warriors films. There are two classics still to come.

So we definitely have those. I have other questions. I'll throw out at the end for our other things we've been doing. But definitely the drive-in movies and the Grindhouse movies and any of the weird ones we've come up with. I would definitely want to get that going again.

A little more than we have. Let me get my Joe Bob Briggs string tied up here. Joe Bob. We don't need Joe Bob. We're going to do our own thing.

We love Joe Bob. I love Joe Bob. I spent so much time devoted to him early on. And then as time went on, I went, he's fine. But I don't know.

Just now it's like there's this weird resurgence of people that like now like love him. And I'm like, I don't know. I was watching him on the movie channel like. 30, 40 years ago. It helps that he's still on shutter doing the thing on there.

And then when Halloween shows up, he's got a marathon he does, or he'll do, you know, he does all kinds of stuff on shutter. The last drive-in is going to go into its fourth season. or sixth season or anyway it feels like yeah at least six he got he got renewed for another season so everything's coming up joe. Bob it's just interesting it was such a lull like because i remember it being the big deal back in the day oh yeah he had monster vision which was sort of in the middle there but also yeah not everybody got that channel at the time so it was sort of under the radar and then like there was kind of nothing for a long time and you'd still see him We ran into him at conventions. He was still out there.

He was still writing. But it just wasn't the big push. And then somehow, good points to him for making this come back around. But yeah, as he got up there, he came back in a way that I'm sure even he never expected. Well, he latched on to Shudder when Shudder wasn't even an app.

It was just a website. Yeah. And latched onto them, did his, you know, last drive-in stuff. And literally when he did the last drive-in, he thought, this is going to be my last broadcast. That's why he called it that.

And then, you know, several seasons later. Everybody kept going, oh, look, it's JoBlo. Yeah, but I think it had everything to do with the fact that, you know, He grew with Shudder and now it's grown into an app and it's very popular with horror fans. They have some good content on there. He's now presenting himself to a whole new audience and then doing cons and stuff like that.

He's just sticking around with the fans and there's not many... Horror hosts that are left active. That's the thing, yeah. You know, Elvira's retired. You know, we still got Sven Gulli on the local, you know, stuff.

Sven Gulli's about the only, like, other national one, you know? There's still pockets of people on the internet that started their own thing. But as far as recognizable national names, yeah, it's like, Elvira hasn't really done it consistently in years. So it's like. It's been gooey and joe bobs about all there is.

Yeah, I don't know if Dr. Gangrene's still out of Nashville or not. He's still doing it, but I think he's, yeah, because I still see him post. Stuff on there. We added him years ago, but I think most of his stuff still is sort of Nashville-based.

Yeah, and of course he's probably still going down anyway, because let's see, I mean, he's been doing that for 20, 30 years at least. I remember talking to him years and years ago, and he'd still been doing it forever even then. So yeah, he's... He's made a life of it, too, so it's more power to you. If somebody wants to give me a show, I'll run weird movies that are probably in the public domain.

But without funding, it's too much work. You would need comedy writers. No, no, we're hilarious. I don't know what you're talking about. And I've seen what they put on their comedy writers, and I'm not thrilled most.

Of the time. I don't know that they have comedy writers on some of these shows. No names. But. We could put together equally as good a stuff.

So somebody throw some money at us. We'll put it together. There's a lot of channels out there now. There's a lot of streaming services. We'll make a show for you.

We'll do our weird drive-in show. We can do horror. Whatever you want. We can throw it together. So normally at the front of these, we're technically... bringing back the super series and normally on these i'll we pair it off and with what's been going on streaming wise a lot of times and this is probably a sign of how the entire episode will go um and this will be no surprise to you because i feel like increasingly over the past year to two years I have less and less good.

Things to say. Right, yeah. Yeah, I could not make it through Secret Invasion. I was so bored. I am sorry.

I stuck with it, but what's fascinating to me was the behind-the-scenes stuff that went on with that show that affected its quality. See, I didn't even know that. I just watched. And I got several episodes in, and I'm just like, every one of them, which, granted, as Everyone who listens to this knows I fall asleep on anything. But it was one of those, I couldn't make myself restart the episode sometimes.

I was like, I just don't care. I don't care. And it almost seems like the show didn't have... The only main point now is that there's mixed reception to the Skrulls on Earth now. Because now you've got people who know the Skrulls exist on Earth.

They've copied other people, and so now you've got right-winger nuts shooting people at press conferences because they think they're a Skrull, and they're not. Whatever the case may be. So you've got a lot of paranoia, a lot of that stuff. Where we're going to see this again, I don't know. That is, again, what little I saw of it of the first several episodes i kept trying to watch there but i was like that was also part of what was killing it for me i was like there's only so many times we can do that oh they were scrolling along and i'm like well at this point then nothing nothing matters like we don't know what we're watching we don't know if we should be invested in these characters because it might not be these characters oh that person got killed oh wait it's okay they were just a scroll it wasn't really them i'm like What are we watching then?

Nothing has any stakes if you don't know what the hell it is that you're invested in. Exactly. So a lot of that took its toll on me too. Well, my problem with it is that the secret invasion in the comics was a fantastic storyline because what it is that... You know, for years you've had the Skrulls in the Marvel Universe, and usually, like, you know, Wolverine could sniff out a Skrull because he could smell the difference.

Or, like, Reed Richards would have some kind of device that could see which is Skrull, which is, you know, something like that. Well, flash forward to many years in the Skrull, you know, story, their home world had been destroyed in the comics, and so they were looking for a new place. Earth has always been a desirable place, and yadda, yadda, yadda. Well, you've got this sect of Skrulls now that basically are religious zealots. They have figured out a way that a Skrull can adapt a personality, but to the point where the line is completely blurred of what they were versus what they are now.

This is even more why I don't like them. Religious weirdos. I'm already not on board in the real world, let alone Skrull world. Well, yeah, they kept doing this thing when they would capture people or kill people and whatnot. As I suppose a comforting thing before they get offed, the Skrull person would tell them, God loves you.

But then you finally realize which god they're talking about. It's their god, not like a Christian god or whatever else. I guess it doesn't matter. They're about to off you. Think whatever you want.

But the whole story is really convoluted because you do have a lot of people that you thought were heroes are now Skrulls. Well, how long have they been a Skrull? And then there's a point where a ship is discovered on Earth and you open it up, and it's full of heroes. Like the Avengers, fantastic. I mean, just names on names on names.

And all of them had basically been captured in stasis in this ship for sometimes years, even decades. So it was this huge mic drop. Like, oh, my God, all these major events and stuff that happened. Who was this person the whole time? And so you basically get this whole thing will finally– When it comes down to the big fight at the end, the kill shot, the person who wins the day, because now all the stuff is being shot with news cameras, and the whole world is watching this conflict happen.

The person who wins the day is Norman fucking Osborn. So now the Green Goblin is America's number one sweetheart. Nice. All the superheroes get kicked to the side, and now Norman Osborn is in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. Norman's got all his bad guy buddies are in charge of stuff now.

And so it kicks off this whole reign of the bad guys are in charge now. And so that's where Secret Invasion leaves us. Like, oh, my God. You've got, you know, people don't trust heroes anymore. They're now trusting the bad guys because they're the ones that got the job done.

And all of our heroes are like, what the hell? So, I mean, it was a great story. And Secret Invasion took literally 95% of that story. And with the 5% that was left, that's what they made the TV show out of. Mm-hmm.

And it was literally like, it's all really about Nick Fury freaking out that he got dusted, and then he gets better, and he came down from space, and then goes back up to space, so he's there in time for the Marvels. See, again, that could have been interesting. At first, I was like, okay, we're dealing with Nick Fury realizing... hey, I've been doing this a long time. I'm an old man now. I probably need to start wrapping this up as far as my responsibility of I can't keep doing this forever.

I kind of thought that was interesting and then immediately just got convoluted with everything else. Which leads me to my next thing, which I think that's part of the problem. I think this and the next one are both pulling too far in opposite directions or ridiculous directions because I also can't I'm several episodes behind on Loki and I can't make myself care. I'm just like, I, and it's, it's a shame because I love these performances. And I'm like, again, you've seen Hiddleston just step up.

And I'm like, from, from Avengers, the first one, I remember at the time. Going, yeah, but he's not really a villain. I mean, he's too damn likable. You can't make him a villain. And like, even they realize they're like, well, I mean, he was, but yeah. we really like him too, so like, he's just full on hero mode now, and I like seeing that turn, and I like, you know, you add short round to anything, it's.

Awesome, like, I was like, all these other aspects. Of it I think are great, and then I get into the story, and I'm like, oh my god, if I hear one more person talk about some sort of weird alternate timeline, or following the threads, or killing off the, I was just like, it gets so convoluted that I'm like, can we just streamline this? I'm not saying there aren't good ideas here. It just seems like it's spinning its wheels half the episodes. And that's what I thought about the first season.

I was like, it's just dragging its feet to get to where it wants to get by the end of the first season. And now it's sort of feels like it's already doing that season too. So it is. Loki season two, I still enjoyed as much as I loved the first one. Q.E.

Kwan was a tremendous addition to the cast. Love that guy. Basically, ever since he came back and everything ever were all at once, he's one of those actors like, you know, we've talked for years, like, oh, we loved him in Temple of Doom. We loved him in the Goonies. And then it's like, oh, whatever happened to that guy?

And then you didn't realize how much you missed his presence until he's back and stuff. And you're like... he just makes everything better. He just adds such fun and heart to his characters. Even Owen Wilson is doing stuff that I'm like, he's doing Owen Wilson, but he's delivering things a little different than I've seen him in in a lot of his movies. And I'm like, you know, a lot of people are hitting this with him, but I'm like, he's pretty solid in this too.

I wish there was more that I could latch onto because I like the performances so much and visuals. That Keyline Pie room... I could spend the day in there. Like, it just looks so amazing. So, like, just the stuff that they're creating is so good on so many levels, and yet I don't care.

I have a true love for the automat, having never stepped in foot inside of one. I know. I want to go find one. There's still some out there. Japan has a ton of them, from what I've heard.

No kidding. Okay, well, see, they don't exist in the States anymore. Yeah, I don't think New York does. Yeah, the. I can't remember the name of the company it used to run.

It was... Horn and Hardit. Yeah. Horn and Hardit. Yeah.

Did the automats in Philly, New York. Yeah. And yeah, I just, you know, the last one went out in the nineties, but I just. Started following a girl on, I don't know, because I think I saw what was one of the first videos she posted. And I think it's through Facebook or something, but she's running videos and like, it's, she's like a teacher that's.

Teaching, I'm assuming English. I don't know. She just like moved there to Be a teacher. Yeah. And it's like her and her boyfriend going around places like this is how this goes in Japan.

Yeah. And like half of the stuff. They go to are like automat stuff or like weird quickie marts that have like this ridiculous amount of food. Oh, Asian supermarkets are tremendous with the amount of like fresh food they have or like just top quality food. Quote, unquote, fast food they have versus what we have in the States.

But the system is so weird. Every time she's like, okay, and here's how you do it. And I'm just like, wait, what? Like nothing ever makes sense. What I love is like.

Yeah, it's amazing. When you notice people getting drinks from like, you know, supermarkets or, you know, Quick Mart, stuff like that. Like you can buy a cold drink somewhere and then you could buy a cup of ice and the cup of ice is sealed. So you got to peel off the top of the ice and then you could pour your drink in there. So it's like, there's no more, you know, dirty ice bins.

There's no more dirty soda fountains with, you know, People touching all that crap. It's glorious. I'm telling you, Japan is the wave of the future. I'm fascinated by them. I can't afford to go there, but I'm fascinated by them.

They've got it down. It is so cool. If you have the streaming service Max, formerly known as HBO Max, there is a documentary that HBO did called The Automats. A young filmmaker did it, but she apparently... either knows somebody that knows Mel Brooks or someone's introduced her to Mel. And so Mel's all over the documentary because he grew up loving the auto mass early in his career.

That's where he constantly ate. But I mean, you get like, you know, uh, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is in the documentary. Colin Powell's in the documentary. There's all these other like politicians and other comedians who were around at the time that just, they talk about their love of this place that once was. And, why it was important.

And it's just such a charming documentary, but it's like, God, it just makes you love an automatic even more. It's like, and so just seeing it in Loki with like, yeah, I almost kind of wondered too, you know, I discussed this a bit on my show this week. It's like, I wonder if like that, particular floor of the automat was all key lime pies like are there different floors to have different pies. It's fascinating to look at because i keep going wait where's the rest of the food and i'm like. But it looks so amazing yeah it's like is there a floor that's like just like the baked beans or you know like do they have the coffee just like they did back in the autumn yeah so.

Yeah maybe so yeah so loki season two is very charming I recommend sticking with it, especially when you get, like, episode three on. Things really get rolling. And by the time you get to the end of the show, if you need any explanations, let me know. The time travel one was at least interesting. Like, when they go back looking for him and, like... they spend the whole episode back in time.

And I'm like, that was kind of cool. And we got to see them in period costumes and like they're doing different stuff. So that one was at least interesting. Also because they. Weren't having 15 different conversations about the same thing over and over.

Yeah. Dying up this timeline and, oh, we've got to kill him. And we've got, I'm just, it seems like they keep having the same conversations so many times. So I'm just, yeah, I don't know. But that's going to be a bigger question I have moving forward.

So. Yeah. For me, the last two episodes of the season I think were phenomenal. So instead, I didn't watch more new episodes of Loki, but I will say what I did watch was they just somewhat recently, they didn't have them. I'm assuming this is a weird licensing thing with Sony, but they just put the second.

Spider-Man movie streaming. Oh, yeah. And I rewatched that because I don't think I'd seen it since the theater. And I'm like. Again, I have my issues with some of the stuff they do, but overall, you've got to love those movies.

In general, all three of them are so much fun. But that's what works. Again, I think the bigger story arc. Of it, not much really happens, and it seems like some weird choices are made there. But the character work is so much fun.

We spend a good amount of time... I was watching it this time going... it's like 20 minutes in before we have our fake monster attack thing. Like we spent like other than the pre-credits thing, like we spend like 20 minutes of I'm getting ready to go on a trip. I got to get this stuff together. Here we are with the kids hanging out, doing all this goofy stuff, moving on, you know, going to different locations.

I'm like, there's a lot of character building time here on just the regular old people. I mean, he's not even in the spider suit most of this movie, you know, it's like, it's so not, a traditional superhero story from that angle in a good way. Right. Yeah. And like that, that's what I kind of noticed is how much we get, you know, character building, especially something like that, where it's all about like the, the relationship and like the MJ thing.

And I'm like, again, it's two movies in before these two get together. You know, I'm like, that's, A very different pace. Than we get with a lot of what's been going on, especially lately with Marvel. So, again, I think those three are sort of outliers, maybe because Sony's involved. I don't know.

But for good and bad, really. I think, too, it all depends on the character. Spider-Man has got a lot of emotional resonance with people, familiarity. whatever the case may be. So, yeah, that character's going to, you know, there's just some that are going to hit better than others, depending on how they're used, what they're doing with them, whatever the case may be. I'm just really, I'm just really curious and tentative to see what Marvel does going forward, because each year, the comic books do this too, but each year, the movie, the filmmakers and Kevin Feige and all of a sudden, they all get together for like a yearly retreat, talking about what we're going to do next, what's coming up, addressing any problems things like that and so they recently had one of those retreats and of course the recent thing was the jonathan major situation oh yeah.

Which again i was kind of surprised to see how much she's in loki season two i was like well i guess they're sticking with this one well the interesting thing is that loki season two a lot of that was shot before a lot of that stuff happened and i'm curious how much of it was shot before quantum mania yeah Because that's sort of when it broke, was right when that came out. Exactly, yeah. So right around that same time. Yeah, and so I'm just, you know, especially too, like, there's a couple episodes towards the end of the season where you're having a conversation with Loki and he remains once again. Yeah.

And it's the same set, everything like that. So I'm wondering, you know... They just shot all of that. Well, it also seems that in the film, and the showrunners kind of also... basically discussed like we've had a plan in place ever since so I'm almost certain that there was some shooting done when they were still doing season one that has been used for season two that you know because this does have a definitive end to things now granted it does kind of give a different status for Loki I don't want to give too much away so if you haven't watched it yet and anyone else who hasn't finished the season but it does have a different status for Loki and a bit of an upgrade yeah But the story of the TVA and all that stuff may be seen elsewhere, but I think we are done with the Loki TV show from here.

That being said, though, I think Loki still has a major... Tom Hiddleston may be done with the full-time thing, but I think we've got two Avengers movies coming up in the near future. One of those in particular he may be very heavily involved with. With any of these people. Even when they're done, they're never Yeah.

I mean, how many times did I hear Jackman say that? And yet he's back in this next movie coming out beginning of next year. And then they're already throwing him out, coming back. Again and other things. I'm just like, he's never done.

Nobody's ever really done. Yeah. Of course, we know he's involved in Deadpool 3. Yeah. And there's heavy rumors involved that basically Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire are going to have a huge major role in Secret Wars.

Yep. So I was like, yeah, you're never really done. They'll throw money at you and you'll be like, you know what? It is a good idea if I play that guy again. You're right.

And it just all depends on what the idea is. But anyway, so the Jonathan Majors problem has been addressed with Marvel, and the three options that came up, obviously the easiest one would be recasting. And this is all tentative, like how the court proceedings turn out. If he's found innocent, no problems, then cool. We keep proceeding as is.

But if we've got to do something different, then this isn't the first time we've recast a major actor within a hero or villain role. We can do it again. The other one would basically be to bring up Doctor Doom a little faster. Make him the big bad and move Kang to the side. Anyway, we're done with you, Kang.

Bye. Marvel fans, myself included, want Doom. We want him bad. But I want a good Doom. I don't want the dude from Nip Tuck screwing up in two Fantastic Four movies in a row.

And the third and final one, which I think is the most desperate option, is to get the band back together. To literally bring Steve Rogers out of retirement and revitalize him where he's no longer a 90-year-old crusty man and bring Natasha and Tony back from the dead. No. Which, again, I just saw a post of Iron Man 4 announcement with him involved. I don't know if we're talking flashback.

I don't know if it's AI. I don't know what road we're going down. I was just like, whatever. I'm staying out of it. But like I said, you're never really done.

Tony will be back in some way, shape, or form. We all know that. Well, and as it goes for that particular rumor, I will believe it when I see it. That one I'm way more likely. The one that I also saw on that list was Scarlet, and.

I think she's done. Oh, yeah, she's way done. Not only because the character's done, but I think she's done. She's like, you know what, Disney? I've had about enough of you.

Oh, yeah. After that last round, I believe she's done. Yeah, there were lawsuits involved, and she ended up winning, so it's like, yeah, she's done. Yeah. Well, it's strange how the internet and the rumor mills and all that kind of jazz works.

Because I had some dude yesterday while I was working trying to tell me that they were going to go ahead with a Black Adam 2 and The Rock's coming back. I'm like, where did you hear this? Because that is not only false in every shape of the word, but it's like Warner Brothers, an executive is going to come to your house and smack you across the face for thinking that. I was like, no, the Rock has burnt every single bridge he could with Warner Brothers after his stunt with Black Adam. Which is basically sticking in Henry Cavill, you know, as a surprise.

But the Warner Brothers had other things going on, like firing everybody that was gone with the old guard. Like completely wrapping up this whole thing and starting anew, basically. And having a new showrunner come in to bring in a new Superman that wasn't Henry Cavill. So it's like, screw you, Dwayne. Oh, and your movie bombed hard, by the way, anyway.

Nobody's cared about any of these movies for a while. Suicide squads aside. Yeah. So, yeah. As the superhero movie rumor mill goes, unless I see a trailer, unless I see a poster, I don't believe you.

But I never think anybody's really out. Right. Exactly. Other than Scarlett. Yeah.

Eventually if enough time goes by and they throw enough money at her, she might come back. Yeah. But I think now for principal purposes, she has to be done for quite a while. You give it 10, 15 years. She might be like, eh, all right, whatever.

Cameos are fine. Yeah, exactly. We're, we're, we're definitely done with that. All right. Anything else before we get rolling on this special movie?

Nothing much superhero wise. Um, Of course, during spooky season, I watched a lot of stuff, things I caught up on. But more importantly, since you guys have discussed this on the Horror Club before, have you seen the new Hell House LLC movie? Because there's a new one, and it's exclusive to Shudder. Not that I'm aware of.

It's good. Of course, this is the fourth one now, I believe, in the series. I can't keep track on it. Like I said, you guys were initially the ones who attuned me into the franchise anyway. But yeah, it's a bit of a prequel.

Kind of a bit of a prequel, but also it's an adjacent sort of thing. There's some other stuff in the Hell House world that this movie... is affected by. And once you get to the end of the movie, all the connections are made and you're like, Oh, that's cool. Uh, and it's kind of also one of those things too, where, uh, stick through the credits. Cause there's basically two, there's like one mid credits, little singer scene.

And then you got to wait all the way to the end of the credits. And there's a fantastic scene at the end. So yeah, it's just like, I'm, I'm in on the hell house movies. Those are fun. All right.

One more for the list that who knows when we'll get around to. Yeah. All right, if we are ready. Let's do this. Let's get into it.

Get more out of life. Go out to a movie. Captain Rambo? What the hell are you doing? Entering the jump point perimeter.

I'm going to get you some readings, Fury. Hello? Hello? Oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God! Captain Rambo?

What is that? It's me! Hi! Is this an Avengers test? Where's Captain Rambo?

Oh! Hi. We're looking for Kamala Khan. Tyrion! Okay, so our powers are entangled.

I can manipulate my energy. And you, I can. Totally show you. No! Not again!

Hi. Where's our doctor? Wherever you are. No! No!

We're a team. Oh, no, no, no, no. We're not a team. We're not. A team.

Intergalactic planetary, planetary, intergalactic. Intergalactic planetary, planetary, intergalactic. Intergalactic planetary, planetary, intergalactic. Intergalactic planetary, planetary, intergalactic. This episode's out on the town feature.

We left the house, went out into the world. I sat in my broken chair. Why do I get the broken chair? I went, I went way early, got my seat, and I sat down. This other person's got their seat up.

These people down here. Mine will recline back in the back, but the foot won't come up. And really, the way it's angled, it's really kind of uncomfortable if you can't do both. So I just put it almost as normal a chair as I could. And I'm like, you know, I just don't even feel like shifting around.

I don't feel like fighting with it. I'm just trying to watch this movie. So this movie in question is The Marvels. The year is 2023. The director is Nia DaCosta.

And the plot, according to IMDb... Carol Danvers gets her powers entangled with those of Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau, forcing them to work together to save the universe. Spoiler alert, we're going to run the hell out of this. And I don't know how many spoilers there really are. So go see it.

It's Marvel. Have they done well? I haven't really heard anything. I think the box office initially was a little low, but Marvel's been kind of doing some pushes, especially the mid-credits scene that we get. was already leaked, quote-unquote leaked, on YouTube. It's like, let's see, it's of perfect cinematic quality, it's linked, and there's a frickin' Marvel stamp on it.

They linked this on purpose. Oops, we leaked this. Yeah, I think they want to get some more butts in seats, because we, they go there. They did the thing that they've been threatening to do for, well, since this series started at least, but definitely in recent years, and Yeah. We already kind of teased it with our Doctor Strange, so we knew it was going there.

Yeah. Yeah, this one was full on going there. But I enjoyed the film overall. It was a lot of fun. Of course, my wife, you know, basically this is a female superhero.

So she's all in on this stuff. And then this is a female, you know, almost entirely female film. You got basically just, you know, a couple of male actors in here. But most, you know, almost entirely female crew film, all that sort of thing like that. Female villains.

Yes. And then a shitload of cats. So this is just the perfect female superhero movie that does have some male fans as well. Before I get going, I have to get out. Again, visual gags work best on an audio show.

Mm-hmm. I got my Kamala action figure. I ran across this lately. She was just hanging out of a package. I was like, oh, well, you need to come home with me, obviously.

Lovely. Because that's my go-to. That's of the many things I had issues with Marvel-wise over the last year, two years, however long. I love that show. Ms.

Marvel was awesome, and she was. The main reason. And then as we got into this, I mean, because again, we threw this out a while ago, but I was so not, overly thrilled because i wasn't overly thrilled with captain marvel as a film and so like going into this i was like oh man but kamala's gonna be there so i was like that was the one thing and i think monica's pretty fun too so like knowing those two were gonna be there sort of upped my anticipation a little bit that i was like at least i want to see what they do with her and how they work her in and then we've got a lot of weird new powers and things with monica so Throwing that in the mix should be fun. So yeah, I was way more invested in those two versus the quote unquote star of the movie.

Well, Monica is developing her powers more. She's learning how to use them more. As someone who didn't have powers. So it is interesting that just in the span of from WandaVision to now, she's like, oh yeah, by the way, I'm a superhero, which she essentially says to Carol. We saw her in another thing too briefly.

Yeah. She showed up in, I can't remember. It's so hard to keep track of where. But yeah, she pops up in another one of the series. Yeah, and where we saw her the second time, that's when we saw more of her powers again.

So she's starting to use them a little bit more. So the more and more we see her, the more she's... That's the thing is that, of course, she hasn't taken her name yet, which is... She is Photon. That's one of the best running gags of this movie, I have to say.

Yeah, that's right. There's a lot of other issues, but like. Again, the interaction with them, that's sort of why I was throwing out the Spider-Man. When I was like, the time spent with them as characters is what makes this so much fun. And the running gag of that, of Ms.

Marvel being a big dork and being a super fangirl is such an endearing thing for her. And then her trying to make the team even more of a team and giving her a name and the running gag of trying to come up. With a new name. I'm still... Professor Marvel, that's the way to go.

What about this photon on you? Well, and the funny thing, too, is she even dropped Spectrum, and Spectrum was a name that Monica used. Monica has used, like, three different names in her superhero career in the comics. At one point, she was Captain Marvel. She used the name.

See, that's the thing. I knew at one point they'd switched out, and so, yeah. Well, because that's the thing. Carol Danvers did not take the name of Captain Marvel until about maybe 20 years ago. So the original Mar-Vell died in the early 80s, and then basically Monica Rambeau took the mantle when she was introduced.

And so we had, oh, we have a new Captain Marvel, and there's a chick. And then basically Carol was running around as Ms. Marvel for a while, then she was running around as Binary, which is cool they dropped that in there a little bit. And binary basically was her powers had flamed out to the point. She basically looked like a walking star.

So it's like, she didn't look human anymore. She looked like she was just constantly on flame with cosmic energy. Doesn't seem comfortable at all. Well, it was basically her powers were acting up. And so it was, it was a short period of time, but she was run around, named herself binary.

Um, And then eventually when Kelly Sue DeConnick took over the book, that's when we went full on Captain Marvel. And then the suit came up, the suit that we see in the movies. And Goose was introduced and all that kind of good stuff. So the Captain Marvel we know essentially started with the Kelly Sue DeConnick run. Speaking of the Captain Marvel we know and the suit, I like that they totally ditched the dumb helmet.

Because that was one of my things last movie. I was like, this helmet looks terrible. And then they got rid of her quirky, fun haircut that. She got midway into the run. Now it's just like, we know what Brie Larson looks like.

Just make her look like her. We just give her the rest of the suit. We like the suit. Helmet was dumb. And just, yeah, go with that.

So I like that she's just herself this whole movie. I'm like, I'm fine with that. That's all we wanted. Just don't make her wear a dumb helmet. We did see the helmet briefly in the flashback scene.

In the flashback. I could have used a bit more of that flashback scene because for people that are fans of the comics and whatnot, finally getting to see the Supreme Intelligence in his true form was pretty cool. Yeah. But it was very brief. Very brief.

Yeah, and it's like, okay, she walked up and basically blew him out of the sky, and then there you go. But, yeah, I mean, basically, like, that's how he looks. He is an AI, but the appearance is this giant green head with tentacles and wires and shit coming out of him and whatnot. But they have him in a jar. But, yeah, but he communicates, you know, like, basically...

Kind of like they did in the first movie where it's on a plane and he's using a different persona. Yeah. But yeah, so very rarely does somebody actually address the Supreme Intelligence in his jarred head form. Yeah, a special person has to see him in that form. So it was kind of cool to see that little throwback, but for some people that was such a big moment that affected her relationship with the Kree and giving her this nickname of the Annihilator.

That was like five minutes, and it was way late in the movie, too. It's like, I could have used that a little earlier. Do we want. Because, again, that's where I'm... It's one of my bigger things.

Do we want to go ahead and jump to that? Let's jump, yeah. Put a pause on the characters, because, yeah, I'll come back to them. But that's, I think, by the time I got. Because I enjoyed it.

Again, I liked it, but most of the things I liked about it was, again, the character interaction. Yeah. adding these two new characters, and they sort of lighten up, because that's the issue with her in Captain Marvel, is she's just so deadpan. Like, there's nothing fun to her. Like, again, it's like, you know, this is a superhero movie. We're supposed to be here having fun, and, like, she's just...

Again, she's a badass, and that was my issue, too. Like, she also, by the time you get to the Avengers movies, like, she has Superman syndrome of, like, yay, she can do everything. Who cares? Like, she's just not an interesting. Superhero because she's too powerful.

Yeah. Whereas we get these other two that neither of them really fully understand how to use their power, so they're way more interesting. So I could watch these two figuring out how to use their powers over watching her be a superhero and do whatever she wants. So again, these other two are way more interesting to me and a needed addition to this plot line. Sure, yeah.

But as we get to the plot line, I'm also. Like, do we really... I don't know. This is my question is like, is this movie worthy as we get into this on paper, it should be on paper. It definitely like, especially once you get to the plot, it's like we are destroying worlds.

Like this should be Avengers level events. But like by the end, I was like, it felt slight. And I'm like, I don't know what definitely. And here's my probably biggest complaint is this villain comes out of nowhere. And I'm like, who is this was same issue I had with that last Thor movie.

I was like, wait, who's this guy? This guy that you built up is the super amazing bad guy. And we had no time with him and we barely got to know who he was. And then you killed him off. I'm like, here we are again.

I was like, this needed a little more time. To definitely to get into that backstory of why she's the annihilator, where this woman comes from, that becomes the big villain of the whole movie. But like, we're just thrown in and there she is. And like, she's already the villain. I'm like, what?

But who is she? Like, I had checked beforehand. I'm like, okay, she is from the comics. It was a character that existed beforehand. But I was like, you still.

Have to apply it to this movie. This movie needs to be able to stand on its own. And as this movie, we don't know. Who the hell she is. She comes out of nowhere.

By the end, we at least understand why she's doing what she's doing. And there is reason to it. But I'm like, you're a good portion of the way into the movie before you figure out what's going on. Exactly. Yeah.

There's definitely some writing flaw in there for sure. And that was kind of the thing too. I was like, why didn't they try to do more to connect her to what was going on? Yeah. Because that's the problem with Supreme or is it basically she, you know, Obviously, she was trying to avenge her home world, which Carol essentially destroyed.

Which all made sense by the end. Again, this could have been a really good... That's our thing going into some big villain like Thanos. By the end, you're like, well, I mean, he's got a point. There's times when you start going like, I see where he's coming from.

Granted, he had a ridiculous, crazy plan. But still, you start to almost see him as. A real character. This girl had enough that we definitely could have sided with. Her and be like, well...

She's got a point. And by the end, we kind of have that moment where Monica's like, yeah, maybe you should go fix her plan. Well, that's the thing is that we, I think we needed as an audience, a lot more emotional resonance of what Suprema was feeling, what Carol did, and really nailing it home that this perfect superhero that we thought was unstoppable and powerful, yada, yada. Yeah. Her hubris got in the way and she basically said, Killed her second home world.

Yeah. Because she thought she was doing the right thing. And, in fact, she was basically, you know, set him up for a death sentence. You know, unless she did something about it to fix it. Yeah.

Which, I mean, again, there's just so much going on there that would have been good had we known that. But, like, they just sort of gloss over it. Yeah. Like, I would have been fine if, you know, they had... Because let's think, they did a flashback, so Supremor was a part of the... the elite group that Carol was part of when she was on Hala.

Yeah. But it's like, you know, we didn't kill off Jude Law entirely. She just beat him up. It's like, we could have brought him back. We could have, or he, you know.

We at least would have known, well, again, if you paid attention to the last movie, you'd be like, oh, that guy. I remember that guy. Yeah, or Supremor was a loyalist to him or something. But it's just kind of like, you're right. We just bring in this villain.

And another thing, too, that a buddy of mine had a question. He's like, well, hang on. She's got that hammer on. that Ronan the Accuser had, because now she's an accuser. But that purple light, that was when he put the Power Stone in his hammer to make it even more powerful. So does she have a new...

Is there a new Power Stone? It draws a lot of confusion. Again, because she's just introduced with that hammer, and then even Carol's like, referencing it like it's a big deal. I was like, shouldn't we know what it is and why it's a big deal? Like that should have already been built into the first part of this movie, but we just kind of skip over all of that.

And I'm like, I don't know. That's, that's several of my questions here is like, why does it feel like the story isn't big enough really by. The end of it? Yeah. And then my main question, and this is one I've gotten every, I remember the, Avengers the second, the robot one.

Oh, Age of Ultron. Age of Ultron. Yeah. I remember having this question then because I guess it was just sort of hitting that that was becoming an option when they started doing series. So at that point it was like Daredevil.

Yeah. But like when we just had that as an option, I'm like, okay, so has Marvel or Disney or Feige or the powers that be that run all of this, have they sort of lost control? Scope of like what works best for what cuz there's times when I'm like, why is this a movie in this a series? Yeah, and like this is one of those I'm like if we spent like a whole episode sort of building up the backstory of her destroying this homeworld and introducing this villain and like if this was a Six-part, you know, it doesn't need to be huge. But like if it was a.

Six-part episodes series feel like we could have like delivered something bigger as far and then by the end maybe it would have felt like this is a world ending event that we need these three Avengers to come together and I don't know sort of rushing it like it does I'm like I don't I don't know. I think the two main problems this movie ran into and like again saying I still enjoyed it yeah but but there were there it's there were some problems I think one of the main problems was that Marvel recognizes the superhero fatigue and the uh marathon length we have to go to to make some of these films. You're in there for two and a half hours plus sometimes. And it doesn't always have to be an epic film and those things.

But at the same time, when you've got some big stuff that happens, give it time to breathe. And this movie, like you said, this flashes through a lot of stuff. And one of the bigger ones it flashes through is the fucking quantum bands. We reunite the bands, which... Granted, there's a lot of changes that the MCU has made because originally the old school Mar-Vell had these bands.

They gave him his powers cosmic. They allowed him to, you know, fly and breathe in space. He can, you know, he can either do the teleport thing or he can fly really fast, you know, and get to places, yada, yada, yada. So they're extremely powerful weapons that protectors of the universe normally wear. Yeah.

Well, okay, now they're doing the whole thing. It's their grandma's bands and yada, yada, yada. And they eventually, Kamala ends up with both of them. So it's like, so are these no longer like universal weapons? Like why wouldn't Carol have these things?

No, Kamala's cooler. She gets it. I know Kamala's cooler, but it's like... I was kind of glad she got him. I was like, good, now she can have even more superpowers.

Yay! So, yeah, it's like, is this going to raise Kamala's stakes even higher? Make her even more powerful? I don't know. It's kind of this curious thing they're doing with her.

Because shouldn't she be able to open up portals? Like, that's what she was doing. Yeah. So, in theory. she should be able to do that whenever the hell she wants now because she's got both bands. Yeah.

Or this allows for space travel for something. Teleportation from one. galaxy to another maybe yeah something like that yes there's definitely a lot of you know questions what they're doing but yeah the quantum bands are a big fucking deal in the mcu uh in the comics so i'm surprised they kind of glossed over them in the film. But that's a good like that's a good example that's one of the things i liked so much about ms marvel is not only did i like that character But that story that they told, it wasn't a huge story. It was low stakes. By the end, they're going to blow up the high school, and that's the biggest thing that officially is going to happen in there.

But they took their time, and the whole story with the bands and Grandma and all of this is paced out perfectly over these episodes. So it really did feel like you were telling this bigger story and giving it time to give you the backstory and. invest in these characters. And like, that was one of those that I felt was really well done as a series versus there are so many of these others that I'm like, I don't think they know what they're getting. Cause not to switch total gears, but that was a lot of people's issue. We just got through again, still Disney Ahsoka.

Yeah. And Ahsoka is that same thing of like, okay, we've got maybe a two and a half hour idea of, let's make it into six. I was like, it was like, it felt like it was eight. Like it just went, there were so many times when kind of that same thing. I was like, I feel like they're saying the same thing over and over and over again.

They're stating what they're going to get to in the last episode. Every episode. And then eventually we get there. And I'm like, so you spun your wheels for these four in the middle. You really could have just told one story concisely and done it in a movie and it would have been.

A solid movie. Yeah. It's like they can't decide which place to put the stories or when they get there, they do it the wrong way. And so I don't know. I mean, again, this is, Feige's not even involved there, but it's the overall thing of what they're doing with their running series versus their films.

Yeah. And they so much didn't know how to do it in Star Wars, they gave up. Like, we haven't had one. We're finally maybe going to get back on that road somewhere down the line. Well, that's the thing.

A lot of the Star Wars series are actually leading to a film that Dave Filoni is going to direct. So you kind of get what you're asking for. But you basically, we're giving, the Star Wars thing is giving you a lot of exposition to get to something big that we don't have a lot, that we don't. need to spend a lot of time on exposition because we already did it over here but they did. The same thing like the one before i guess was obi-wan and it was kind of that same thing it's like there's great moments in it but overall it's like you got way more time than you got story to tell and they just kind of like what else can we do for this episode so it's like they i don't know it's like at least at least and or seemed like it was paced out right like it wasn't again, it's a lot slower than most of them, but I feel like at least they felt like they were doing something and it was timed out right.

Where the other ones have felt like, here, we got to throw this again. So again, not to totally switch to Star Wars, but it's that same issue. I feel like that's kind of what a lot of the Marvel shows were doing too. It's like some of them work and other ones, they feel like they don't know what they're doing and they don't know where they're going, except they want to get to this point so they can make another series or they can make another movie. So it's like they've got an end result, but they don't know what to do with the middle part and they just drag it out.

Yeah. I think that's kind of one of their main issues right now is of course the, the, the actors and writer strikes that, you know, they've all been resolved now finally by this time. Um, so it will delay things slightly, but hopefully the summer of 2024 isn't going to be affected too badly because with film releases. Maybe things will be pushed back a little bit, but, you know, I think we're mostly still on track with a lot of our big stuff. But, yeah, Marvel really kind of does need to wrap it up, B, when it comes to this particular phase, because...

They've got so much flack. They've had to restart. That's kind of the problem. Anybody who's a sports fan knows. It's like when you've got to redo the team that was once a championship, your favorite team, and then now they suck for a couple years.

We're in a town that's doing that right now. Yeah. We have a sports. Team that didn't know what the hell to do with itself. So I don't pay attention to sports.

But even I know. It's like, wow, we are on a rebuilding year, aren't we? So rebuilding years are really rough and Even with film franchises like this, it's really rough. And the audience is not given a lot of patience because they basically, the last thing they saw for the previous one was Endgame, which was a fucking epic film. And now they want everything to be like Endgame.

It's like you can't have Endgame every fucking time. And that's what I was thinking of. I was like, well, again, like Infinity War is amazing. And Endgame really kind of delivers this, again, huge two and a half hour epic. So, I mean, those felt like they were bad. big enough to have these movies and they had stakes big enough to make it worthwhile and here again it should be on paper but it just didn't feel that way and i'm like you can't do that every time but then we've got other examples that like find a way like i've i've said this as we mentioned earlier i've had a lot of and i think that's part of it i think just marvel in general because i don't like i listened to a show that their thing became marvel bashing yeah and they weren't purposefully doing it but it just became like oh that's all they're doing anybody with any taste in movies knows that like this is the problem with movies right now is what marvel has done to everything and i'm like that just became a go-to that i thought was lazy so it's like i'm like well i don't ever want to be that but i'm not going to pretend like i don't have problems with a lot of what they've been and especially post-end game it's like everything since then has been like just off kilter just out of step it's like because some of them will hit and be great and And then there's others that are just totally missing for me.

But it shows me that you can still do that. It's like you look at Multiverse of Madness, and I'm like, that told a great story. It's not three hours long. It's just normal length of a movie. It's pretty complicated, kind of, but they found a way to make it focused and follow one storyline and not convolute it more than it has to be.

And it works for me, you know? And kind of same thing for... that last spider-man. Like again could be very convoluted with what they introduce and yet it's normal running time the stakes feel like they're big enough for these people but they're not you know suffering versus you know in game where you get the other ones that are just sort of missing the mark for me so it is then like it's not like they totally forgot how to do it because we've had a couple in the middle there that have been really solid yeah And then we've got Love and War. I don't know what we're doing here, but we made another movie. And that's the thing, too.

Folks forget, we didn't like Iron Man 2. We were mixed on Iron Man 3. avengers i liked iron man 3 avengers 2 we didn't necessarily like that much we didn't like thor until the third. One that's true so i didn't like any of that thor before 3 so. Everyone has already forgotten the things that didn't work in the first phase and now we're in the new phase. I remember but yeah i think it gets sort of brushed under the rug but it seemed like they were i don't know it It's hit and miss.

It's like they were delivering on certain ones. Like, you know, the Captain Americas were kind of like solid. Yeah. And like we get. But even then, I think my thing with Age of Ultron was the same thing.

I was like, this definitely could have been a series. Like we had way more story we could have told that we had to kind of cram into this two hours. So it's that same thing of like figuring out where to invest the time. Because, I mean, eventually they did that. You know, Infinity War and Endgame is like.

What, four and a half hours or more? Yeah, exactly. It is a huge amount of time, which if they would have done a two and a half, three hour movie with Ultron, you know, they probably would have balanced it out just fine. So it's just they were kind of building up the nerve to be like, okay, we're really going to have to go all in if we're going to tell this story. So I think then they were still on that, no, we got to keep it under two hours kind of idea.

Yeah. Eventually they gave up on it. I'm kind of hoping that Marvel kind of pairs down their schedule a bit more. It seems that we're getting too thick in the weeds now. As far as Disney Plus goes, Moon Knight was well-received.

The Werewolf by Night one-shot was very well-received. I really like that one. um ms marvel was well received by the people who watched it but it was not a hit yeah you know a lot of people skipped it because they thought well you know whatever reason to be but it's like no people like no this is a fun coming of age story um if you don't know what life is like for pakistani immigrants in america you got to see that i think that's. Part of it i think because they invested so much in this again this character it's like that's why that one is so solid And you love her parents. I'm so glad they were in this movie. I know, yeah.

Her family makes it. Her family is so much fun. And I'm just like, this is why you want to be invested in these movies. And when you skip that stuff, it's like everything else starts to suffer. So, I don't know.

It also really kind of depends on the character themselves. In the comics, Kamala has been universally beloved pretty much since she popped in. And is one of those characters that has grown... Into just being a great hero and a great leader and somebody you want to follow, you know, into the fray because she's just a great person and you know she's got the best intentions doing the right thing, yada, yada, yada. Yeah.

So. Iman Valani has done a fantastic job of cultivating that. She's phenomenal. And I just looked her up. I was like, I don't really remember her for anything.

She hadn't done anything else. She sent in a cold tape because her aunt suggested it to her and she got in that TV show. That's where she sort of started. Yeah. She is so good.

But also, she's a fan. She gets the character. One thing I thought was beautiful was they've released, basically, Kamala has got a different status now in the comics. Because, of course, you know, initially when she was made, her powers came from an inhuman origin. And then in the show, they made her mutant.

Yeah. Well, in the comics now, they killed her off, but they resurrected her. It was the shortest turnaround of a superhero death to resurrection in history because it was literally two months that she was dead and revived. That's it. Did J.J.

Abrams make this? Back to making fun of Star Wars. But the whole thing was essentially to bring her back, and now she's both. She is an inhuman, and apparently she is also mutant, but her. Emergence of the inhuman powers tamp down the mutant stuff.

So basically she's got further development to go because her mutant powers may differ from what we've already known her with her inhuman stuff. So they've got a new comic now and Iman Valani is co-writing the comic. Because she's that awesome. Like I really like she is so good at this character and like it makes me like because I was thinking I was like this is like one of my favorite. Characters of anything in years.

Like I think she is so not just likable which she is but also like it's it's this humanity that she brings to it because i literally like in the theater i was like as soon as she was going through the weird dream sequence things and like as she comes out of it i'm like if i know her as a character she's gonna go over there and give her a hug yeah and she did it and i was like jesus i was like the few times i was like oh my god this is so like she is giving this heart that Carol. Danvers had nothing. You know, it's like she brought nothing. To that where she has so much emotion and so much like sort of joy to be doing what she's doing that even when it's tough times, like she brings a different level to it that makes you want to root for her that I don't think we ever had with Carol Danvers.

And that's the big problem with Captain Marvel is that she's a stiff in the comics, too. The only thing they've done over the years to really kind of try to humanize her a bit more, and they did this kind of the late 90s, and every now and then somebody will touch on it, but it's not in regular things. Basically, she's an alcoholic also. No. And Tony Stark is her sponsor.

I don't know if that's the best. Well, currently Tony's been still sober for a while. But every now and then they'll address it. But it's not as something big that Tony wears on his sleeve that fans who know Iron Man knows that he's an alcoholic and something he's battled. But it's something they've only touched on a couple of times and really haven't addressed it.

So it's like she still kind of comes off as just perfect and joyless. Yeah. But, you know... You also kind of understand, you know, basically she's military, so maybe there's something that goes in with that as well. And, you know, I mean, she's had some interesting, you know, tie-ins in the comics as well that have kind of been very traumatic for her.

So it's just like, you know, but yeah, they need to work a bit more on humanizing her and they... There's a little of it here. Like watching her interact with the other two is the most useful thing. Like it really is like, okay, I don't like dislike her. It was just like, she just didn't bring anything to that first movie.

So giving her these other two people, she kind of lightens up a little bit. She does seem a little human by the end. So especially once you get to the, I mean, we glossed over the, we have a musical section in the middle of it. So when we get to her having a secret, fake, possibly real marriage to her, This random prince that I was like, this is fun. This is giving her a weird side of her that we never saw before.

I think that was really good, too. Yeah, a marriage of convenience. But at the same. Time, there's definitely something going on there with the two of them. So I kind of like that.

That was maybe the most interesting side story we could have had because it wasn't... I mean, we certainly have the big murder win that also comes up later that at least makes her fallible, which is nice when she's super all the time. But that was also a sillier version that brought a little something light to her and made it sort of fun. And we got to hear her. Sing, which we all know, I, as someone who has the soundtrack to Hoot, which she does a track on, Brie actually can sing.

Okay. So, yeah, I don't know. Yeah, I think what we need to see a lot more of is Carol's interaction with other cultures and how she, they react to her and vice versa. Yeah. You know, we only, we basically saw like one good example, the musical world, and then one bad example with her own secondary home world.

So yeah, we need to see a little bit more of what the universe thinks of Captain Marvel. Yeah. Outside of just one example, but yeah. I was trying to think, I was like, as I was watching this, cause I'm like, she was still coming off kind of, and I was like, what is it with brie i was like do i because then i was thinking i was like what else have i really seen her in i'm like she's amazing in room but again rooms a two-hander most of the time you know it's like it's almost all her yeah because it's just a kid and her most of the movie so it's like it's an impressive feat but again it's not her being super personable with others it's like she's Literally, locked up by herself. Yeah, we haven't seen her in a rom-com or a fun movie or something.

I'm looking through. She's done other stuff, but I really... It's older stuff, because she's been working since she was a kid. I saw her in something lately, and she was unrecognizable. It was so young, I wouldn't have picked her out of the crowd.

I was like, whoa, that is her. That's crazy. So she's been working forever, so I don't doubt her as an actress, really. but I feel like she needs to sort of develop that and maybe do more fun stuff that like, maybe it's just like muscles. She's not flexing. Like, yeah.

Cause I feel like she can do that. Cause that was the only other thing I could think of is like during, I think it was when Kimmel got in trouble. And did she take over? She took over one of the late night shows. I think she spent a week on, maybe it was Kimmel.

I don't know. Kimmel is terrible, but I was glad to see, like, I wanted to see. Her in that role. And like, she was pretty good at it. Like she was way more functional than most people being thrown into that role.

Cause they kept rotating people out and a lot of them were really bad. And like, she was, she was solid. So I was like, she can carry stuff like that. That's way lighter and way more frivolous, you know? So it's like, I don't know.

It's just trying to find the right alchemy to that and shove it into a marvel movie i guess. Yeah i need to see her like host an snl or something like that it's. Like that that's the kind of stuff that she could do that sort of lightens things up a little. Sure yeah so yeah i mean that did but that is ultimately a problem with that. Character yeah she's also been handed a super boring stiff.

Carol's stiff so yeah yeah carol's not fun she is a stiff yeah um it'd be interesting if they would eventually start Because there's basically a couple other characters within the MCU that are similar in her level of power. One of them being very interesting that I think we might see in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie would be the Sentry. Which is basically... The Sentry is essentially Marvel's version of Superman if he had a psychotic split personality. Yeah.

Because this guy has basically solar-based powers... you know, he's the power of a million exploding suns. Uh, he's also crazy as a loon and his other persona is called the void and the void is his chief nemesis. So basically he is literally fighting himself and he doesn't know he's fighting himself. Superman three. I've seen this.

Yeah. He's, it was a great movie. Yeah. He's, he's extremely crazy. Um, Yeah, so I'm curious if they're going to do that version of the character.

But it would be interesting to see somebody on the level of Carol's power with a much more interesting character. Because that was my thing with Thor. Like, as you said earlier, that's why I could care less about those first two movies. Like, he was so boring. And I'm like, again, God like powers.

And I was like, well, who cares? He can do whatever he wants. And even by the Avengers, it's like... The only reason he worked is because he was deadpan and most of the jokes were at his expense. But again, because.

Everybody else was so much more fun, it made at least that first movie okay. And it wasn't until Ragnarok when we just made him goofy as hell. And it's such a fun story that it worked. But it was that same thing. Godlike powers, I was like, I'm already checked out.

Well, and the thing is you've got to add in that other element that makes Thor special, which is Loki. The more Loki you add into a Thor film, the more you've got that balance. Because Loki is the fun, interesting one. Oh, yeah. And Thor's the perfect child.

And he goes out and fights and does his thing. Maybe he gets a little overzealous in the fighting and his hubris. But for the most part, yeah, there you go. He's out there winning the day. Yeah.

He's the pride of his father's eye. By the time they're working together, which again, in three, is why it works so well. Because again, like. The first one in Avengers, he's busy being a dick the whole time. So it's like, But again, he already has that spark that you're like, oh no, that guy.

I like that guy. Like so he won everybody over a little bit there but even more so by ragnarok when he's just it's the team up and they're both being fun and goofy and i don't know it kind of works well. And that's the problem you've got too with your translation from page to screen you know When a writer creates a character and the artist draws the character and you've got those two things coming together, you've got now a thing that's come into existence. This character has come into existence in the pages of a comic book. People get to know it.

You fall in love with it or you hate him or whatever the case may be. Now you've got a translation of an actor and a writer reinventing this character for the visual medium. And sometimes that actor may not be as good as the writer or sometimes the actor is better than the writer. Or sometimes they bring so much of themselves to it that it overshadows the character. Yeah.

We get a lot in movies, I feel like. And so that's why the MCU, you know, we still talk about like how good Loki is or how good like Captain America is. But then we always remember like. well, Thor kind of sucked for two movies. Or, you know, we don't really like Carol Danvers because she's not this. So it has everything to do with the whole combination of how that character is translated on screen.

Again, as I said, it's alchemy. When it works, it is magical. And then when it doesn't, you're like, ooh. And I forgot, one of the main reasons she loses so many cool points in this movie. She's wearing Crocs.

Carol. I already, you were fighting an uphill battle with me anyway, but Crocs, really? When you've got to wear super duper tight spandex when you're out there gallivanting and kicking ass around the universe, you've got to tone it down a little bit, get a little comfy. So, you know, she's in some sleep pants and some Crocs. I'm fine with the rest of the outfit, but these Crocs got to go, man.

Well, you can't walk around barefoot around a spaceship. That stuff's cold, man. I mean, that's what I thought until I was watching the Post-credits scene with Samuel L. Jackson at the end of Spider-Man 2. And I was like, dude's not wearing any shoes.

What are you doing? Well, those are probably like heated floors, man. He's crazy. Samuel L. Jackson.

Yeah, I mean, Nick Fury, you know he got heated floors, man. I did think that. He's bougie. I was like, wait, why does he not have any shoes on? He's bougie.

You're in space, you crazy bastard. So anyway, I just need to bring up Crocs, what the hell. Right, right, right. But I say that every day of my life. Every time I pass the one.

What are you thinking? Why? Why? Yeah, I hear you. The addition of the multiple alien cats, or flerken as they are known in there, that was cute as shit.

I mean, cute kitties. You add cute kitties to anything, how are you going to lose? Especially when they can... Have crazy tentacles and swallow people. I love it too.

Don't run from the Flerken. Let them eat you. It's okay. And again, I like capturing that guy and being like, I'm sorry. Just stand here and be eaten.

It's fine. Yeah. It's a great transportation method and it was a smart play. Again, it was a funny addition to the end of that. It's such a weird balance to what's going on in this movie.

But at the same time, I was like, that's pretty funny. Because we've established there's no way all these people are going to get in this escape ship. We're screwed. Oh, wait. Yeah.

So get all the kitties there. So, yeah, Goose has her own personal army of her own children. And where's the father in all this? They didn't really get it. Like, as soon as they...

Or unless Flerken are able to self-reproduce or something. Well, that may be. But, yeah, as soon as Mom said... Goose was looking a little big. I was like, oh, God, here we go.

And then there were eggs. I was like, yep, here we are. I knew it. Yeah, because the whole movie, I'm thinking like, okay, I know there's going to be a whole bunch of flirking and kitten flirking. See, I didn't know.

But as soon as you said that, I was like, here we go. Yeah, they're in the trailer. Because, yeah, I must not have... I barely saw any trailers, actually. Yeah, they basically.

Because I didn't see them in general, but I guess I watched at least one over the last week, but I just didn't see much of the trailers this time. Yeah, the first couple of trailers, they're all over it. So you know there's going to be a whole bunch of Flerken in the movie, so I was like, where is this going to happen? And then basically when I started seeing it, it was like, oh, she looks a little chunky there. It's like, oh, she's pregnant.

There we go. And then we see the eggs, like, oh, there's a baby Flerken. They come from eggs. They come from eggs and maybe... I don't know.

Maybe they don't need to be outside fertilized. There are a lot of species that are not alien. They are from this planet that can do that. So it's very possible. I don't know the physiology of a flerken to be able to tell you that.

And it seems dangerous anyway. They're not the most calm and easy to deal with pets. Well, I mean, just think, you know, they're like any kind of cat, except they have these tentacles that come out of them and put you in this, like, bottomless void they have inside them. And, oh, watch the scratches, because, you know. Could take out an eye.

Well, I mean, even, like, you know, Nick loves goose. He doesn't hold any hard feelings that you took one of my eyes with a simple cat scratch, you know. But he's all lovey-dovey with them. So it's like, all right, you know, forget, forget. But getting to the end of the film here, so we get, you know, Carol makes things right with Hala, reignites their son, and now everybody's happy.

But it's like, okay, well, they also stole water and oxygen from these other two planets. Like, how are those other two planets okay? I kind of wondered that, too. I was like, because she likes Musical Planet. Are they fine?

Are they missing all their water now? What happened? I mean, granted, she said, like, the planet was, like, 95% water. So they're probably okay. Yeah.

But it would throw off some stuff. I guess, too. But the fact that we didn't really check in with them, I was like. Yeah. We got Hollaback, and Ms.

Marvel, Kamala, now has both bands. Because she's super cool. And I like what they finally have pulled the trigger on, is that we as comic fans have been waiting for... Because we're missing still a couple of members of the Young Avengers. But finally...

We have got our building blocks now where Kamala is pulling a Nick Fury. Which I did like it was mirroring the very first time of like, hey, so I'm putting a team together. Yeah. And Kamala's being all like, you know, Nick got that Nick Fury confidence swagger going on. And I know everything about you.

Sort of stuff like that. And I was thinking that of the series of many of which I felt like were misses. Like that was the other initial one that I was so impressed with. Kate Bishop was awesome. Again, it was one that I felt was very balanced in the story they were trying to tell.

They brought in this great character, so I was like, those are the two I've been most invested in. I definitely want to see a team up with these two, and Throw some extra. I'm sure we'll get Ironheart. Again, of the kids, it should be Peter Parker, but I wonder if the Sony will keep him out of. No, he's too old for the team.

Yeah. I mean, Kate Bishop's pushing it, but... Well, basically, if we're... He just got out of high school. Come on.

If we want to stick with the members of the Young Avengers, you've been... Kamala is a much later member. The original members, Kate's definitely on that team. We met Elijah Bradley in the Captain America Winter Soldier series when we basically met Isaiah Bradley. So though we kind of just introduced that character, he doesn't have his powers or anything like that yet.

He's kind of like basically kind of a little bit like Captain America himself. He calls himself the Patriot. But he's a little bit of Captain America. The twins, the WandaVision twins, they're members, but of course they have to get aged up a little bit. So to say, we've seen them in many different versions, and it's never good when they're there.

Maybe they'll graduate up to having good introductions. Yeah, but there's still two core members that they have not introduced at all. And you've got one character named Teddy, who basically, he is half Kree and half Skrull. Oh, Lord. Yes.

But he goes by the name Hulkling, but he's a shapeshifter as well. A new West Side Story happening here. Well, basically, he ends up having a relationship with one of Wanda's sons, Billy, the magic user. So the two of them are a couple. Actually, they're married now in the comics.

Also, you find out that basically the Skrull and the Kree have actually united because they're so close. their races have dwindled down so much that they actually have now formed an alliance, and Teddy is now the Emperor of the Universe because he is both. So his status has gone up. The other core member is Iron Lad, which basically is a good Kang variant, which now the groundwork for that has been laid out thanks to Victor Timely and Loki. So we know that while there are hundreds upon hundreds of bad Kang variants, there are some good ones. So we haven't been introduced to Iron Lad yet, or maybe Victor Timely will become Iron Lad, seeing as...

You haven't finished the Loki series, but there's some stuff in there that could possibly do that. Again, they don't have to rush to those. We've got the two that I'm most invested in. So I want to see, even if they just do a team up with those two, it would be awesome. Yeah.

I know they're building to more, but both of those characters are great. Absolutely, yeah. And Ironheart's definitely a member. She becomes one later on. Miles Morales becomes one later.

And I would love to see a finally get a live action Miles Morales. Yeah. He's super popular over in the Spider-Verse animated films. That's the whole other, yeah, offshoot series that's got such a following. Yeah, it's like...

I would think they'd want to cash in on that. Yeah, we need live-action Miles. Yeah. Without a doubt. Yeah, so it just...

And, of course, when you get, you know, kind of the core members, kind of the later iterations of the Young Avengers, it's like it's Kamala... it's Miles, and then there's a character called Sammy Alexander, who is a Nova, but the way the MCU's done the Nova characters, he's a little different, too, because basically they're like dudes in ships as opposed to dudes in spacesuits running around with, like, sentient helmets and, you know, yada, yada. Whether or not we get an actual Nova that's the version from the comics, we'll see. But at least we finally are starting to get the building blocks now of the Young Avengers being formed. So I was very excited to see that. I did like especially the very mirrored version of that.

Because it's been so long since that first one that I was just like, and that's my running joke in every post-credits scene of Whatever movie it is, it could be a dumb rom-com. And then at the end, Samuel L. Jackson shows up and he's like, hey, you want to be on my team? So they literally did a funny version of that. I like that.

And then, of course, we have our big conflict and Monica seals up the rift in time and space that Supremor opened up, but now she's trapped on the other side in another universe. Which we've already seen plenty of. So we know that's out there, but now we can work in a whole new universe people to start switching over. Yeah, because the big thing, well, the one thing they start us off with is, oh, she sees her mom. Yeah.

But her mom is not exactly her mom because she's. Well, at first, yeah, I was like, so her mom didn't die. And then we get in, I was like, oh, no, this is just a different mom. But we had kind of laid that groundwork. Earlier in the film, when we see the flashbacks, when Carol's talking to her mom, she's like, you should have been Captain Marvel, not me.

Yeah. But I won the race, and so that's why, blah, blah, blah. So this is that world. Like, what if, you know, not Monica, whatever her mom's name is. Yeah.

But, you know, Colonel Rambo. Yeah, she basically could have been Captain Marvel, but she took the name Binary instead. So it's kind of the same thing. But the other big thing, of course, it was so funny, too, because when... And she's talking to– Monica's talking to Binary, and we see a person in a big blue flash walk by.

And I can hear the rumblings already in the theaters, and then you hear that voice. You hear the voice. I was like, oh, shit. They shelled out the money to bring him back. And I will say, good CGI on him. yeah and it was so funny because people like what did they do in makeup like dude fucking kelsey grammars push get close to 70 he doesn't want to be in that shit.

It doesn't need to be doing that the fact that they brought him back like surprising really because you think they'd be like let's just start anew and we can do whatever we want from here on out but you know fan service works. Yeah so make him a cg character and have kelsey voice him but you can basically have hank do more beast like things if we ever use him but It's interesting, though, that basically this is the way we have introduced a major member of the X-Men, our first one outside of Charles Xavier, kind of the little tease we got over Doctor Strange. And spoilers, took him out immediately. Yeah. So that universe no longer has the Charles Xavier.

Yeah, but it's interesting that basically we bring in Hank McCoy here because... One thing I've repeated Kevin Feige had said is basically, you know, we have this avenue of trying to bring in the mutants of the X-Men into this world. You know, I want to do a thing where they've always kind of been here. They've been hiding in the shadows, yada, yada, yada. We're not going to do a open up a portal and then 50 people walk out and they all have powers like, hey, what's up with the X-Men?

We brought potato salad. Yeah. You know, we're not going to do that. Then what the fuck do you do? Well.

You trap a hero over in another universe, she goes through a portal, and over there, guess what? You got fucking X-Men. Technically, they've always been there. They were so in the shadows, you didn't even know they existed. So...

So what are they going to do with this development now? And again, we can. I mean, really, you could almost... I don't think they will, because we always come back to our same story. You could just start doing movies in other places.

And you could have entirely different cast and different people playing different roles. Again, they like to confuse people. So that would confuse the hell out of some people. But you could just do, and now we're following Monica over here. We're going to see what's going on in this universe.

Yeah. But I don't think they're going to. They're going to find a way for her to get back and then guess who's coming with her? A whole bunch of X-Men. Well, it seems to that definitely because, I mean, you know, the most logical place would be, you know, Kang Dynasty.

We'll see them again. Yeah. Or possibly even what... Deadpool 3 sounds like it's ramping up to be a much bigger movie than what we initially thought. It seemed like it was just a funny idea at first, and now they're like, oh, we can use this, actually.

I know they're doing a lot of joke stunt casting, because they're doing it with multiversal stuff, so we're going to see some different iterations of Deadpool. I know for a fact they've cast Dogpool, which basically is a dog version of Deadpool, but it's like, It's one of those dogs that won the ugliest dog contests or dogs. This is not a normal-looking dog, but you put him in a Deadpool suit and he's even less normal-looking. But yes, it's kind of one of those dogs. They've joked around that we're going to see fan-casted Wolverines.

Basically, of course, there was the joke years ago that, oh, let's cast Daniel Radcliffe as Wolverine. And so we may see a Daniel Radcliffe Wolverine variant where he just basically looks very maniacal and weird and whatever else. He can do that. He can pull it off. He can pull...

I mean, the dude's got himself in shape. He can do all kinds of. Yeah, we've seen him in so many other things now. It's like, he's got range. He can do all kinds of stuff.

You know, I think there's even like... We may get like a Tom Hardy Wolverine or something like that. It's basically like the much more rougher, tougher, you know, sort of thing like that. I don't know. It's just.

There's going to be a lot of fun to be had in Deadpool 3, but I think there's also going to be some major shit that happens. I mean, if they really want to deliver on the joke, just go ahead and cast Danzig and give everybody the dumb stunt casting they've been asking for for like 25 years. Yeah, yeah. In the pages of Wizard Magazine, we cast Glenn Danzig as Wolverine a long time ago because he's short, he's muscular, and he's furry. And he seems pissed off all day long.

But that's exactly what Wolverine is. You got to style his hair a little differently, give him some claws, and boom, you got your Wolverine right there. So at this point, if we need like an old version of Wolverine, there's your stunt casting. Yeah. Well, there is an old man Wolverine.

Yeah. Some old man Logans are going on out there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what we need. But yeah, so there's a lot of questions about where we're going from here.

A lot of big stuff to be done before. I mean, that's... That's the thing, too, is like, you know, how far did the strikes push things back? Because we're expecting our first Avengers film, I think, in 25, I believe? No.

25 or 26, something like that? So, you know, is any of this stuff pushed back? What have we got left to do? And is Marvel going to kind of maybe learn from their lesson of maybe, like, let's pare shit down a little bit? Like, let's really, like, if we're going to have movies come out, let's make sure that either... we're introducing something, something to add to it, not just we have to put these characters in and fill this void.

Yeah, it feels like we've had a good amount of, I don't know, here, put this out. So like in both avenues, both series and in movies. So yeah, I don't know if they can just focus and figure out what they need exactly. And granted, this is a huge puzzle that they're working on. It's fine that you want to bring in new characters to the fold, new sides of the Marvel Universe to the fold.

That's cool. But you also have to understand that that works in the comics where you can have a Moon Knight character and a supernatural kind of setting pop up. He's doing his own thing. It's not connected to the superhero stuff, and that's fine. But to the general audience, Moon Knight's got to connect to something.

He's got to show up with Spider-Man or with Captain America at some point. Somewhere. If you're in the universe, yeah. Yeah. You can't just have this separate door that no one ever goes into.

It's got to open to something somewhere. So, they've got to get a little bit better with their connectivity, and like, you know, hey, if we don't necessarily need this character for the big thing we've got coming up next, which is basically, happens to be our Avengers films, that's kind of what we've established now, like, you know, basically, you know... The TV shows and some of the smaller movies, those are your regular weekly wrestling shows. But Avengers, those are your big WrestleManias right there. That's your big pay-per-view.

You get to the steel cage match. Yes. You better have some impressive people in that cage. Yes. We need to see Hogan and Andre do their thing in the next Avengers movie.

So that's kind of the pattern we've gone here. So it's like, well, if we don't necessarily need... These characters, we don't need to fill in the Marvel Universe with a whole bunch of shit we don't need. We need to be much more strategic about what we're releasing, what we're putting out, so that everything makes sense when we get to the end. Now, granted, that may happen when we get to Kang Dasty in Secret Wars, but right now, it seems like we've got much more of a melting pot than we did with the previous phase.

And that's not necessarily a good thing, because we don't know where all the ingredients come into. And I don't think they did either. I don't think they did either, yeah. I think they got midway into this run and went, wait, what are we doing? They're focused on these little ones, but they did a really good job in that last phase of like having the eyes on the prize and like everything's coming to this we know we've got a bigger plan with what we're doing and then after that was done they were like shit what do we do now like there's been a lot of struggling to figure that out and then keep moving towards the right goal yeah I.

Think, too, they had an easier time in the first phase. We're building the Avengers. We're building the Avengers to the point where they will fight Thanos for the Infinity Gauntlet and the fate of all existence. You can wrap your head around that. We all knew that, yeah.

You can wrap your head around that. We don't know exactly where this is all going. We know there's a lot of multidimensional stuff. There's timey-wimey stuff. Possibly we're going to be getting into some of these dimensions will start dying off like we saw in Doctor Strange.

Yeah. So let's kind of get the ball rolling here. And again, because all of that can, as I've said before, get really convoluted. It's like I feel like you've got to have your plan and focus in because we got to that point, especially by endgame. We're dealing with time travel and we're already doing all kinds of crazy looping around and characters... fighting themselves and like something that could have gone off the rails and they people have issues with in-game but i'm like it works pretty well like for as much stuff as is going on in that two and a half hours like it is still or however well it's more than that but it's like there's a lot going on and somehow it never really gets out of control like you're still on board with what's going on you know where all the characters are and by the end you know what they're doing it's like that's easy to get out of control and like i feel like That could be where they're heading if they don't kind of get a focus on it.

And figure out everything beforehand. And I think one of the main focuses we need to do is we need to have a second generation of Avengers. Yeah. We need an establishment of another team that's there to face the big threat that's coming. And right now we don't have that.

We've got a bunch of scattered heroes that aren't united. Yeah. And we don't like, again, we don't even have of the ones we had left. They've all kind of been doing their own. Like, again, some of the movies work.

Some of them don't. Yeah. It's like it's it's hit and miss. And then we've got all these new people we're trying to introduce. But I'm like, it's back and forth, too.

Sometimes it's in the movies. Sometimes it's in the shows. And it's like that confuses people, too. So. I don't know.

It's a lot to juggle. Yeah, it was like the Avengers that we have left, the only one who's really addressed the loss of his team is Hawkeye. Yeah. We saw that in his show. He's retired, essentially.

Yeah, he's basically kind of retired. But again, he's human. He doesn't have any powers. Yeah. So it makes more sense for him to not be in the fray much anymore.

They'll probably pull his ass out. I'm sure for... Extra long cameos. Yeah, for the big stuff. But it's like Steve Rogers has been MIA and retired out of the game since Endgame.

Thor really hasn't addressed it because, again, he's a god. He's been through a lot of stuff. But we didn't really see Thor's addressing of part of my team is dead. The rest of them are either MIA or whatever else. He literally did not know what he was doing.

And we watched that through that whole last movie of like, what do I do now? So he's wandering around with his only connection to another team that didn't really want. Him after a while. And we saw Hulk kind of meandering a little bit in Ragnarok, but then we really haven't seen Hulk. We saw him a little bit in She-Hulk, but it's like, Not much.

So it's like, yeah, it's like there's been– the Avengers have folded. There's been nothing that's taken its place. And so it's like we need kind of like– we need to start bringing it home. Yeah, I would almost– again, I know they've got so much invested in all these other ones. But like you could almost slowly retire all the previous ones and just– again, they could have just started doing the shows of nothing but the kids.

Mm-hmm. And had them all like introduced already and then work their way up to a movie with all of them together and maybe slowly fade out some of the ones that are still around. But like, I don't know, like I feel like they, they didn't know what to do with it and it's been scattered and kind of different pieces. Cause when you've got some heroes they've established as being the next generation, like, you know, Sam Wilson, he's now captain America. Um, what's Bucky going to do?

I don't know yet. And even Sam, I don't know. Like again, that was another one that was hit and miss for me. It's like, sometimes there was good stuff going on there. Sometimes it didn't seem like they knew what they were doing with, with that character and with the whole combination of the two of them.

So I, I liked the playoff between the two of them, but yeah, it took a little bit for them to finally like, let's get Sam in the suit and embracing being captain America, which was by the last episode. Yeah. I could have done with that in episode five. And then, have more of it in episode six, but yeah, they, they literally waited to the end to have this. It's like, okay, well, yeah.

Uh, I mean, granted, he's got a movie coming up, which I want to start seeing some more stuff about that now. Uh, but yeah, it's like, we need to kind of, one thing I would actually like to see is if we get a combination of some of the leftover next generation heroes, like your, you know, Sam Wilson's, you know, whatever, or your, um, uh, Yelena Belova, the white widow, you know, you know, seeing her, you know, pop up. We haven't seen her at all since then. Like we saw her do the little recruiting her. Yeah.

It was like Hawkeye. Then we saw the flashback version of recruiting her in. And then I kept thinking, okay, so we're going somewhere with her. And I thought of that earlier today. I was like, yeah, we haven't seen her since then.

I knew that's where they were going with her was Thunderbolts, but I'm like, they didn't really do anything in between now. And then she just disappeared. Yeah. Basically it was just, you know, black widow Hawkeye. And then basically the next time we'll see her against Thunderbolts.

So, um, yeah, I could deal with more with her. but getting a mixture of maybe getting like Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop on this other Avengers team. Yeah. But then eventually, cause kind of what happened at one point in the Avengers that they did have a multi-generational Avengers where you had some older members and then you had a lot of younger members. And then at one point there's a rift that happens and the younger members are like, we don't like the way you guys are always doing things.

There's a smarter and better way to be a hero. That's actually helping people. And not causing so much stupid rampant destruction that happens once a week. But that's what we do. So basically the younger groups, they basically bring back the champion's name again.

And then you've got now a younger generation of heroes that is being led by Kamala and Miles and a couple other, you know, Ironheart, a few others. And they're like, we can be better heroes than what the old guard are doing. Right. Racing to get to the same thing. They're like those ambulance companies that are both competing to get to the trauma at first.

I'm going to save you. No, I'm going to save you. Well, for instance, a big thing is superheroes come in, they beat up the bad guy, they destroy five blocks of office buildings, and they split. They're done. That's how all these go.

What about maybe helping rescue survivors? What about cleanup? What about rebuilding? What about maybe not fighting in busy city streets? Maybe trying to take the fight to a less populated area?

It's always a good plan. It doesn't always happen. These are some of the things that Kamala and her team start doing and bringing up. Let's be smarter and better heroes. I would like to see An iteration of that, where basically, like, you know, they do team, you know, basically kind of do a multi-generational Avengers.

And then eventually there's the split of, like, the younger kids are going to do this better than the old guard do. Yeah. And let's see them do more and, you know, start following them a bit more. So I would like to see something like that. Definitely.

Yeah. Will we? Don't know. Who knows at this point. Yeah.

But I'm with you, though. We need to... We need to stop noodling Jerry Garcia and get to the fucking chorus and end of the song and get to the next track. Well, I will say that I was kind of impressed direction wise. Again, I think more of the issues was the overall story, which it's according.

To IMDB, there's three writers. She's one of them, but like it probably got muddied up with the powers that be going, Oh, we got to. Do this and we do this. And so you got to cram all this in here and wrap it up in an hour and 45 minutes. So, but as far as, Because, again, she's still a pretty new director.

She's directed, I think, this is maybe the third feature? So, like... Yeah, now, her Candyman, uh, recall, remake, sequel, whatever you want to call that, was brilliant. Yeah. I've heard nothing but good things.

So, now I really want to go back and watch it. So, yeah, I was like. But, again, super low budget compared to what we're dealing with here. So, like, to be thrown into this kind of huge production... I think it's still pretty solid as far as visuals and just delivering pretty much again for, for a lot of crazy story going on, you could be totally overwhelmed by that.

And yeah, I was, I thought she did a good job. So I, and I like again, watching what little I have of, of her as interacting with the actors. I think she bonded with those three. And I think that's the stuff that comes through. That's you see her like, delivering on the interaction part and like seeing what a good bond these three have off screen and like, well, how do we make that work on screen?

So again, I think that stuff works and she found a way to have that come through, even if the overall plan is sort of glossed over and crammed in there. Exactly. But yeah, the dynamic between the three of them is what makes this movie work. Yeah, it really does. Yeah.

And you're absolutely right. We said earlier, like it's just, you know, Monica and Kamala humanize Carol. Yeah. Because she needed a whole lot of that. And by the end, they even give almost. the backstory of, like, why she's been a tool for the last 20 years.

Yeah, exactly. Like, even in the last movie, they're like, hey, where have you been? Earth's falling apart. I've got other stuff to do, you know. There's other people.

So, it always seemed like her just being defensive. Yeah. And, like, so now we know, eh. There's kind of a lot of guilt going on there, too. She's had some major screw-ups.

She's made some major screw-ups, and not coming back was her way of dealing with it. Just like, I've got other things to do, and nobody out here knows me, and they don't have to judge me that I did some horrible things. So, yeah, that at least gives her a reason that was more than like, again, she was so not really likable in either of what little she was in the other Avenger movie, but even when she shows. Up, it's just like, yay, you're super-powered, whatever, but... And I think that's one thing that the Marvel writers are learning a bit more is that it's great to have this representation of having strong female characters, but you've also got to have good, well-written ones.

She-Hulk kind of ran through the ringer basically almost being too perfect. And so that was kind of a flaw with that show. That's been a major flaw with Carol. But on the flip side, that's why we love Kamala so much. Kamala's amazing.

Because she's human. Like she's more human than anybody else out there and yet has these amazing powers too. So it's not even like she doesn't have powers and that's why she taps into that. It's like, no, she has these amazing powers now and maybe even more so with both bands. But she's so human.

That it makes her so much more impressive as a hero and just sort of lovable as a character. So Marvel's funny. We're seeing Carol have some issues that show that she's not perfect. We see in the Loki series, Sylvie in the second season makes a lot of... She's got a lot of issues.

And I haven't seen the first couple episodes. She's got a lot of issues and has made some big mistakes of things. And to basically accept help from a male character or Whatever else. So it's good that we're finally getting better written female characters as good as their male counterparts. We're just not putting females in strong roles and they have no flaws.

No, no, no. You have to have both so we can humanize and relate with you. That's why no one likes Superman because you can't relate to him. We started solid. Black Widow was definitely a flawed character with him.

Sketchy backstories. Right. Like, we started pretty solid with her, and I think even Wanda, even at the get-go, like, she was so messed up about her childhood that, like, before she made a full villain turn, essentially, like, she was pretty well fleshed out. So, yeah, we had some good examples, but, yeah, along the way, they were busy trying to put a lot in there, but you can't just throw them in. It's like, you really do need to write solid characters.

That's one thing I appreciate so much about Yelena is that Natasha had just as much of a screwed up past, has done a lot of very sketchy, dark things, but Yelena loves her job. She has fun with it. She doesn't have any misconceptions about who she is, what she is, whatever the case may be. Probably doing heroic things will be a little bit different for her, but she's pretty self-actualized about who and what she is. And so that comes off as just Florence Pugh's performance.

Again, I can't get enough of her. Casting-wise, that's such a great move because she's awesome in everything. So yeah, to then give her this interesting character. So I do want to see more of her. Yeah, I know.

The thing is, the characters we've really started to like, we don't get to see enough of. Yeah. I don't know. There's too much. Going on, it's like, can we just focus on the ones we want to see?

Yeah. And, man, that's kind of how it goes in the books, too. There's sometimes that Marvel wants to push, oh, we got this new book here to push, and no one cares about that because, like, that's okay. But, well, this book over here that no one's talking about, that's a good book. And so then sometimes those are sleeper hits or whatever else.

So, yeah, the movie's going to go that way, too. But, again, we need to get our focus back. We need to get to the point of the story. Well, have we mostly hit all of these things? I think we have.

Because if so, then I will throw out. I said I had another part to this interactive thing. Yeah. Because I've, as mentioned on this episode, and many lately, had a lot of issues. We've even skipped some superhero movies over the years.

So, I don't know. Like... if this one hadn't have had Kamala, I don't know how, I. Don't even know if I would have bothered doing an episode. So that's, that's what I'm asking. I know you're going to go see them all anyway, but like, I don't know.

Sometimes if there's ones I'm not that thrilled with, I don't know how much I want to put into it. So I'm asking people listening. If anyone listening, I rarely hear from people. So if you care and want us to keep, Hitting specific ones, bigger tent poles, hit and miss. I don't know.

Again, I don't know that I want to do everything across the board, especially whatever the hell DC is doing. It's hit and miss for a lot of stuff in DC land. So, yeah, I don't know. More miss than hit. Well, and even the Sony stuff coming up.

I'm looking at those going... I don't care about Venom. I'm not going to get excited about another Venom movie. Well, and the next one's supposed to be Kraven the Hunter. Yeah, I don't think I care about him either.

Like, they're doing all these other things, and I'm like, I don't. So I don't really want to do across the board every comic book movie ever made. Well, I mean, Aquaman's coming up right around Christmas time. I can't say I really give two shits about that one. I watched the trailer today, and I was like, yeah, I didn't care the first time.

I don't care now either. It kind of looks fun, but it's like... I'm just going to wait for Max. And once again, we've already killed off this whole line. So this is just sort of the death rattle of.

And look, we still made another movie. Well, see, that's the confusing thing about the Aquaman shit is because we assume things are done, but, But then we had that horrible Flash movie and Aquaman pops up in there and they drop the whole line of like, oh, well, Aquaman's the same in all universes. So he's like a constant. Is he? So it's like, okay, so does that mean we're not done with Jason Momoa?

They just like Momoa and they want a backdoor. We want to keep him in here if we can because he's hot and chicks like him. And the same thing goes for Gal Gadot. Her third movie got tanked. Patty Jenkins got fired.

But Gal's still with us. Yeah. Basically, James Gunn and Warner Brothers said, no, we're going to develop another Wonder Woman thing with Gal, but she's still our Wonder Woman. And still same line? Or this new universe just happens to be the same actress?

Who knows? At this point, I can give you a large shrug. After 1984... that's got a lot of issues and that's the thing too is that you know basically we've got Aquaman is our next film the DC stuff coming out like I said right around Christmas time. And then really our next DC thing would be James Gunn's Superman Legacy which they've been able to return to production now but that's going to be our next thing we see and that ushers in a whole new universe and new characters or new iterations of characters we've already seen like we're getting a younger Superman yeah So I don't know what that means for the previous rents. Now, I don't know.

I don't think anyone knows what any of this means. The only thing we do know is that Blue Beetle will exist in this new universe because they did connect. The movie is connected within the DC stuff. They've named dropped Batman and a couple other things named dropped in there. But they also kept it separate enough that it can exist on its own.

Or we could drop it in over here if we want to. And people seem to like it. So let's do that. And though it didn't do well in the theaters, it was actually well received. It is an enjoyable film.

For fans of the old school Blue Beetle, lots of Ted Kord love in there. You get a nice little stinger seeing the shows that Ted Kord stole with us and all that kind of stuff. So there's more potential for that stuff to go on. And we know... James Gunn wants to develop a Booster Gold project, and Booster and Blue Beetle are literally buddy cops joined at the hip, so you can't have one without the other.

So, we know there's going to be some sort of future, and Blue Beetle is involved in this, James Gunn and Warner Bros. have said so. So we know he's safe. So if you liked Blue Beetle, you liked, I can't remember the name of the kid's name that was in Cobra Cob, he did a great job. He's still got a job. So if you like Blue Beetle, you like that, you're safe, we're good to go, we're going to see more of him.

For the rest of this shit, I don't fucking know. And that's what drives me nuts, is that we're not getting anything. So that's why my status is. I don't know. That's why I said earlier, I want to watch these weird old drive-in movies.

Cause I don't know how many of these new ones coming out. I want to see. So I'm fine with us still sitting here. Talking whenever you want, but we might not be talking about superheroes all the time. That's cool.

If anybody feels differently, Hey, write in emails on the website, go to movie meltdown.com. Tell me what the hell you think. Cause I don't know. I, I, Otherwise, we're just going to do whatever the hell we want. Damn right.

And that's my plan all the time. But I will at least take it into account if anyone out there cares. I just assume nobody does. The one person I know usually does, I just talk to and I'm planning stuff for them. There you go.

There you go. If you're cool, we'll interact with you and we'll plan stuff for you too, maybe. So throw it out there. But otherwise, we're just going to do whatever the hell we want. That's right.

All right. Anything else to round it out? I think we've covered all the gamut there. Do you want to tell people where to find you when you're not? We had a lull here because I was falling apart.

While you were away from here, you still do your own thing. Tell people about that. I got my own podcast, The Fanatic Forum. You can find me on Facebook and YouTube. I go live Friday nights at 7pm.

We basically discuss all things geek. I do new comic book reviews every show and then The subject from there changes. So like this past week, we discussed season two of Loki in full. And then my plan for the next few weeks, at least kind of rounding up possibly the end of the year, is I'm going to kind of delve more into deep dives of some of my favorite movies. Maybe you guys have heard of them.

Maybe you haven't. So I'm picking some... I like to pick some stuff that's old school and... Sometimes it surprises me because I did a deep dive on one of my favorite 80s film, Streets of Fire. I've discussed that on this show.

We've definitely discussed that. Yeah. And when I discussed on my own show, I was surprised the amount of people that are of the proper age that should have been familiar with this movie that weren't. Yeah. It's so hit and miss on that stuff.

Yeah. That you never. Well, and then definitely as you get further out, because I was just listening to a show. And like they were. Talking about, again, it's a much older title, but I'm just like they were talking about the Swamp Thing movie like it was the most obscure thing.

And I've never heard of it. I'm like, we all grew up with Swamp Thing. What were you like? I know they're of a younger generation, so it just totally over their head. But I'm just like. it's so hit and miss with that.

You never know what level of geek they are or just even, even if you're hardcore, sometimes you just miss specific things. So yeah, you just never know what page people are on. So yeah. So I'm, I'm definitely going to try to bring to light, you know, some of my favorite and I'm going to, I'm doing both film and TV because my one TV thing I'm definitely doing is bringing up the glory that is police squad. because many of you guys may be familiar with the airplane films, and you definitely know The Naked Gun, but The Naked Gun came from Police Squad. From the files of Police Squad.

A beautiful series that lasted only six episodes. That's what I was going to say. I thought it was only six. Yeah, it was way ahead of its time for television. Movies, you were ready for it, but on TV, we were not.

And so it tanked like a mofo, but then they brought it back a few years later in film, and suddenly Leslie Nielsen's a star again. Yeah. But yeah, if you've not seen Police Squad, like I said, six episodes. Especially if you know your old cop shows, they just hit those hard. It was pretty amazing.

I feel like they got overdone with the movies. I kind of got sick of... A lot of what was going on, especially later, Leslie Nielsen, where he just beat that horse to death. But, yeah, those early police squad, like, it was still new, and, like, it's still, like, spiraling off of his airplane craziness, and, like, it worked so well. Yeah, the third one I would maybe say was maybe a little too much, but the first two naked guns, definitely.

Yeah. Yeah. I mean, granted, I can't be mad at anything Leslie did. Because I grew up loving him so much. So, I mean, I celebrate the man's work even his less than stellar ones.

He just got so in that mode that that's all he did the whole last half of his life, basically. To me, it's way more interesting when you go back pre-airplane and see him in legit roles. And he was a villain quite a few times in those early days. Or doing like Forbidden Planet. Or yeah, trying to be a leading man.

He's the big hero. It's way more interesting seeing him do that stuff. So I like that older stuff when he's. Like, before he realized that shtick and that's all he did for the rest of his career. I like seeing him still doing other things.

That's way more fun for me. To listen to behind the scenes stories of him on the first airplane is, It just gives me such joy because this was like his first opportunity to do a comedic thing. No one ever thought of him. His career is basically over at this point. Yeah.

Because he'd gotten older. He wasn't the young leading man anymore. He wasn't going to be, you know, go-to leading man ever again. So who would have thought that would happen, you know? But just the... because it was so funny because you had like him and uh uh peter graves and robert stack in this movie now robert stack got it a little bit he didn't have but peter graves did not get the movie and.

In a way that's why it works like it's so funny watching his scenes because it's like he doesn't know he's in that movie like he thinks he's making airport you know it's like he's He's still, like, it's why those are so funny, I feel like. And even after the film was released and years later, like, he just was completely puzzled by the fandom and the popularity of that movie. And he just, he did not get it. But then, like, Leslie, on the other hand, like, made a fart machine out of like pvc pipe but he makes his cup in his hand and make fart noises right around the set doing pranks and stuff like that just having a blast because now he's got this whole new life to his career whether or not he knew this was going to add a whole new facet to it he was just going to have fun on this set the.

Fact that it in like ignited that in him you know it's like it had always been there and he had nothing to do with it obviously Because, yeah, I just saw somebody, they were releasing like a super cut because I think when he did press tour for that movie, he took it with him on the talk shows. Yeah. And kept doing it. Yep. He's ridiculous.

And that was just, you know. Just how much joy he brought to me watching his movies over the years. Because even Repossessed is a piece of garbage. I've seen that one more than most of them. I saw that in theater.

Thank you very much. During the Halloween season, I went looking for it and found it on YouTube. I literally had to buy it for like five bucks. But I now own a digital copy of Repossessed now. You lucky bastard.

But it's been out of print for years, and while it's a one-note parody movie making fun of The Exorcist... uh it is did not age. Well well it's also like it's almost a kentucky fried movie because everything is like its own little skit almost in the overarching story but then they'll cut away and it's like there's this thing where we're making fun of jim and tammy and there's this thing we're making about like there's all those timely like remember how much people are into fitness let's do a five minute bit where he goes to a fitness center and i was like this is just its own separate thing. And that's nothing to do with repossessed. But there's a lot of jokes that didn't age well. They were timely.

They're all so specific to that moment when they made that move. Yeah. But yeah, so it's bad. But God, it's still, you know, I just love Leslie so much. Yep.

So how do we know? We were going to start off talking about You know, Marvel stuff. Marvel and in with Leslie Nielsen. But yeah, that's what basically the next few weeks I'm going to be covering on the Fanatic Forum is delving a little bit more into some of my favorite movies that you may or may not be familiar with. So hopefully if I can get you guys to discover something new, all the better.

Yep, that's always good. Finding those missing portions of your geekdom and filling them in. Or just uncovering gems that just need to be, you know, they need to be known more. All right. Well, I'd say otherwise, that about does it.

We will return next time. Same geek feed. Thanks for listening. Teaching FN. Intergalactic planetary, planetary intergalactic.
