This is Roger. This is Greg. This is Marlena. Alright. And that's all we are for this week.

This is the cool kids. Yeah, that's right. The best of us. Those other slackers. Fuck them guys.

Joan is tired. She had to stay in bed. Does that equal hungover? No. No, she's not hungover.

She's just really tired. She does have many health issues. I'm concerned for her quite often, as I'm sure all of our listeners are. But that's usually just when they hear her talk. Do you mean many health issues like a lot or as in little tiny ones?

That would be cool. She is a waif of a girl, so maybe she just has many issues. Yeah, she's got little problems for her little body. Oh, Lord. I thought it was so creepy.

Yeah, I like that. He can say creepy things about her. It's okay. Say whatever you want. That's when I get real close to the market.

All right, moving on. We will get to this week's geek activities, which for once, I actually have some. All right. It's exciting. Yes.

I guess if we want to start at the beginning, if you were listening to the very end of last week's episode, you'll know what they were. I watched Army of Darkness and Evil Dead 2. Yes. On VHS, nonetheless. VHS.

In a big van rolling down the road. So that ties into at least three of our semi, probably in and out of consciousness versions. I watched most of them, actually. So that was pretty awesome. God, they're so fucking good.

They're fun, and I think I realized it, but Marlena, you specifically pointed out, damn, that shotgun holds an unlimited amount of shells. They do. And it's a double barrel, so you have to, like, you reload after two shots sometimes. But he reloads, like, once in the movie and shoots it, like, 48 times. And he just digs into his front pocket for the unlimited amount of shells.

Yeah, which he puts, like... four in there i think in the beginning yeah yeah he grabs like four or five like there's still more on the counter i'm like you better load up buddy there's evil dead coming after you. You have no idea the dead eyes yeah. And instead yeah he grabs a couple throws them in his pocket and then for the rest of the movie just just loads out of there god. I mean and it's funny how we watched them out of sequence we started with army of darkness and then went back to evil that too Which I am not a fan of the first one. See, it's funny because I go the other way.

Like I like the other two and the other two work as their own thing because they're the same style and they work as one story. I forgot how much they tie in like the looking into the future in Evil Dead 2 of what's going to be Army of Darkness. I forgot how much that's all tied together. Whereas I'm actually like still more of a fan of the first one as, as a horror movie, because that one to me is almost a straight up horror movie. It's not because evil dead two is just like, let's remake the same movie only.

As a comedy. It is 90% comedy by that. Yes. To me, The first one is just fucking creepy. It's just a creepy, well-made, low-budget horror movie.

And you don't get that very often. And I think it's got all the crazy camera tricks and everything and the cheesy special effects that you get in the second one. but done straight and done creepy, like, to a level of creepy that, like, still, I put that up there as one of the most, like, if people who don't watch many horror movies are just like, man, I want a scary movie, and they haven't seen hardly anything, it doesn't work for anybody who listens to us, but for, like, normal people, I'm like, if I want to mess with them, watch Evil Dead, because I still think it's one of the scariest, like, movie like just if you watch like the tone of it just you know that swing banging on the wall is fucking creepy you.

Know especially the how how like low budget and yeah especially grindhouse movies to me had that look of low budget like the film quality maybe not that good or the colors are kind of off or whatever, but that's one thing that, yeah, I agree that it looks low-budget and gritty in that really creepy sort of way. It's like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That's what carried the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It just looked like. It could be real.

I mean, this footage is so scary. So, yeah, that's... To me, I'm still a little... But, you know, there's a soft spot in my heart for the other two because they're so much fun, and that's when you get the chainsaw, and I love the chainsaw edition, so... Yeah, I mean, I'm definitely a huge fan of the other two, but I still, I kind of got to stick with the first one as far as a legit movie.

I still like the first one. It's still, to me, it's so odd that he just remakes. And the story doesn't even follow suit, like, within the three movies. Like, it's weird enough that they changed it up from the first one to the second one, but even within the two movies, I'm like, wait. So this girlfriend's totally different than that girlfriend in the other one.

How did it get to be Bridget Fonda? Except now you're kind of famous and you can get Bridget Fonda. But it doesn't even match her hairstyle. There's so much that doesn't match between all three of those movies. It's the strangest trilogy ever.

And I can say that this goes back to. Boxer had to warp my brain because I always remember the skull with the eyeballs. Oh, yeah. And I remember, you know, as a kid when you're at Red Giraffe or wherever and you're in the horror movie section and, you know, you're not supposed to be there because you're not old enough and you still think that that matters when you're a kid. And like looking at the back of the box when it has the shot of like Ash being strangled by his own severed hand.

And I remember that that always just scared the shit out of me. And finally, I can't remember the first time that I actually watched Evil Dead 2. But of course, fell in love with it instantly. where he throws his girl's head in the vice and he's like, you're going down. I'm just like, this movie is freaking awesome. To the fact that I had to show my mother.

Because, well, you know, my mom took me to see Aliens and I thought that was awesome. And I'm like, I know that she would love this movie. And I sat her down and we watched Evil Dead 2 together and she's like, this is great. She's like, thank you, son. I'm like, thanks, mom.

And we bonded and there was sunshine in the background. But yeah, this is one of those movies that It was like the beginning of an era, I guess, for me. Because I think it kind of got me into horror movies in a way. It kind of was for me. It was at that point for me.

And it's funny that you mentioned Red Giraffe. That is where I ended up finding it. Because it was one of those that became a Red Giraffe. I think it had been premiered and they had a lot more cool videos. And then it became a cheesy Red Giraffe.

But they still had a decent cult section. So I actually went. And it was one of those when I got to a point where I was... sort of embracing the geek in me and started like finding all that. Cause there was all these ones I'd heard of, or I'd saw pictures of magazines of like the posters, which again, the posters on, well, all of them are pretty awesome, but the first two are like jar to me. I still love that.

And one more reason I had the one sheet for that first one. Cause I think that is like, one of the best you know images ever like it really conveys how creepy and messed up that movie is and and then the second one only goes even more weird yeah like so yeah because it. Makes no sense the skull with the island that has nothing to do with anything in this movie but but it looks creepy and weird so it fits so yeah it I think both of those definitely fall into the video boxes that. Work for my brain. And, and it did lead me back in there going, I've seen this box a million times.

Where can I go find that? Cause there were places, you know, newer places that weren't even stocking that already because it wasn't cool anymore. They just got the new stuff. So I didn't go and get one and watched it specifically because of that, because I knew of the reputation of it and, and, people had sort of built it up already even at that point and that was a long fucking time ago but it almost immediately got sort of this cult following so it's yeah it's kind of cool to go back and think about where you started down that road because yeah it definitely led to a lot more messed up movies I. Think everyone in a certain way can kind of go back and figure out, you know, like, where.

Was I when JFK got shot? Well, no, where were you. When you first... When you became a geek. Yeah, when you first embraced it, when it kind of smacked you in the back of the head and made you rent that movie.

Like, okay, I'll listen this time. Definitely. Awesome. So aside from those, after I got out of the van, this was much later in the week, I did watch Midnight Movie, which I don't know if anybody's seen. It's actually, like, I think 2008.

It's pretty recent, actually, but it's... I don't know. It's one of those I started off thinking, oh, this is a weird horror movie. Maybe we could watch it. But by the end, I'm like, if we want to just find all the faults in it, I sort of give them give them credit for again.

This is a pretty low budget movie and they do a decent job with it. It doesn't look terrible. The quality on the on the film is good. They bring in semi-real actors. They're not amazing, but everybody does their job and does it okay.

It's almost more the story that I ended up having bigger issues with. It crosses a lot of weird lines, whereas... it's real world and then it sort of crosses into some sort of metaphysical some sort of fantasy world that i don't know and it and it crosses those lines without really setting up rules so you're midway in you're like wait what's going on now this doesn't make any sense. By the end, it's sort of... No, it really doesn't even. What's it about?

It starts off... It's like an old theater, and everybody's going in there going, oh, this place is falling apart. This place is terrible. But they're running some... Again, mentioning...

To me, they're running a movie that looks like they're doing a knockoff of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Yeah. So you get a whole lot of scenes of stuff from this fictional movie that they're watching that is very much wanting to be kind of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre, old... It's supposed to be one that was made in, like, the early 70s, and now this is, you know, this guy who made it eventually went crazy, killed all these people. Awesome.

Then he broke out of, like, his asylum or died or whatever the story was. I don't remember, but supposedly it was this mysterious event at the asylum, and all these people got killed at the asylum, and then they haven't played in anywhere in the five years since this incident happened. This is the first time they're playing. So you play the movie, you summon the guy who directed it and. He's a killer.

You think you're going to bring him out of the woodwork, which I guess. It's a new candy man, I guess. No, because I mean, they go into it like it's very real world and he's going to, you know, come back and he, they think there's like a cop that shows up that night and he thinks the guy's still out there and he's waiting for him to show up because this is the first time they've showed it since then. So they think they're going to bring this guy out. And, I don't know.

It gets weirder from there. It very quickly crosses some strange lines into what sort of makes sense, doesn't make sense. I don't know. It sounds like a train wreck on the movie. Does the movie start interacting with the movie?

I mean, does it. Kind of, yeah. Okay. You enter into a weird area, you're like... okay wait is he killing people in the theater now or is this going on in the movie or yeah it's a big gray area and they don't set it up with any rules and then even by the end most of it isn't explained or makes sense in a way that you're okay with so yeah i don't know i again they it's not terrible but i don't like the uh the the way that they uh don't spell all that out they don't really uh Give you enough to go on to even make it make sense by the end. That kind of reminded me of Demons, how they're watching the movie and then people start turning into demons.

It's along those lines, I'm sure. That never gets explained. I'm sure that was, you know, viewed by this guy somewhere along the way. So, yeah, it very much feels similar to that. So.

A much lesser. Yeah sounds like a fun movie to tear apart though. Yeah i mean yeah that's the thing i was like we could watch it i'm sure we'd have many things to say to go into as far as that plot line's concerned but you know hey if anybody really wants us to watch that i don't think it's amazing but you let us know uh so now we get to the real movie the big deal uh i went yesterday and saw piranha. 3d oh my god how was it Fucking awesome. Was it?

It looks like it is. It really, and this is where, and I heard somebody sort of mention this last week, and then I saw it and I was like, okay, yeah, you're right. The marketing department at this studio dropped the ball because, I mean, it only made about $ 10 million, which we'll actually get to something about it in a little while here, but to me, it should have been a huge opening had they marketed it right because we all saw that first trailer and it was just kind of like, huh piranhas and it just like a bad because we saw it at the movie we went to Greg it went to a it went to a into like just bad CG fish and like sort of a normal cheesy horror movie especially with the remakes that are you know coming about now they all sort of fall into that category You go there, and supposedly there was a Red Band trailer that they never played.

And even then, I don't think it, well, I think I watched it at one point. I don't think it does it justice. This movie, they really should have played up what this movie is. Because if people go there, and I'm surprised more people haven't been outraged by it. Because if you went in expecting that movie that you saw in the regular trailer, oh my god, you don't know what you're getting yourself into.

This is a throwback to movies that I have not seen since the 80s. Literally. Literally. It is completely nothing but boobs and blood. There are, and again, not to go too far into it, but yeah, there's tons.

Of both, really. The amount of naked chicks in this movie, I haven't seen since like a Hard Bodies movie or something in the 80s. Like seriously, they don't make movies where they do that. Now you might get like the main lead girl might get naked in a generic sex scene. That's really all you get now.

This is just like fucking non-stop. Gratuitous. There is tons of that in there. Do they make use of the 3D? Yes, they do.

Is it good? No, in a couple. One in particular is pretty impressive. There's sort of a I believe they referred to it in the credits as the ballet. You'll know it when you see it.

Oh, it sounds awesome. Again, that one was more like, for a second, I thought I was at the IMAX at the Science Museum. I was just like, huh. This is nice to look at and kind of.... I don't know.

I don't know what else to explain it as. Well, it's like all the trailers that I saw were completely underwhelming. Yeah. And I didn't realize. I figured that this is, you know, okay, Prawn 3D.

The first one, you get to see, you know, people chewed up pretty good. Yeah. And I was like, well, are they going to leave that out? Is it just going to be, you know, the water bubbles, people thrash, and then you see blood, and that's it. Until I picked up a Fangoria magazine, which is the most recent one, I think, and it has... you know, some of the gorier shots from the movie.

And I was like, I have to see this fricking movie. Like it's, people are stripped, you know, and I'm like, Ooh, now I really want to see it because I didn't want them to cheapen out on the gore factor. You know, the only thing that one ups, the amount of boobs in this is, Oh, my God. The gore. That's what they should have marketed on.

Because there is a huge fan base of people that are like, why aren't movies like that anymore? Why don't we have these gory movies? And, you know, Aja put this together. It's like, I didn't even realize he was as big a fan. Because a lot of his earlier movies weren't.

I mean, they were more like tension based. They weren't like all out gore fest. Oh, my God. This is just... Buckets of blood.

I mean, and like tons of just like. Gnarly wounds. Yeah, just shredded bodies, like you said. I mean, there are some scenes that I was just like, wow, that is fucking gross. Yes.

And awesome. Love it. So, yeah, they really dropped the ball on the marketing. They should have been pushing the... oh my God, it's a girl's gone wild that also runs into the middle of a blood fest. Go watch it.

Yeah, I mean, really, that would have brought people in, and the market that I think, you know, they should have been looking for, and instead they were just like, hey, look, it's a 3D horror movie. They were pushing the 3D more than anything, and to me, that's the most underwhelming thing. I didn't hate the fact that it was 3D, but to me, I put it more along the lines of like the Final Destination one, where there were scenes where I was like, it's okay. I get the, they definitely make use of the gag many a time, but I was like, for the most part, I was like, it's not really that impressive. I didn't, I wasn't impressed with the depth, you know, where like the, the, my bloody Valentine that I was impressed with that, like even something like Coraline, like there was tons of like depth and you really got into like every scene.

You felt like it made use of that. Yeah. Whereas this one was more like, eh, okay, I get it. I mean, there's a little depth to it, but I just, I was not overwhelmed by the 3d. I was overwhelmed by the awesomeness of the gore and the storyline that they just don't do anymore.

They don't set something up that's just like, hey, here's a whole bunch of naked chicks and blood. And people complain that they don't do that. So why they didn't market it that way is such a mistake. And I did have a little fallback of my, oh, yeah. Elizabeth Shue.

Oh, Elizabeth Shue. That year that I went and saw Adventures in Babysitting. It kind of came back. I haven't paid that much attention to her. Even in her dramatic little comeback there in the 90s, I didn't really pay that much attention.

I think the last thing I saw her in was The Saints. That was kind of, yeah. I haven't seen her since, really. Wasn't she leaving Las Vegas? Yes.

Yeah, that was her big Oscar caliber role. So she had that comeback. And then, well, that's the thing. I'm looking at her now, and I'm looking at her on the big screen, and I'm like, She looks amazing. Once again, she has held up and, once again, doesn't look like surgery.

It looks like she just aged amazingly well because she looks great. She was in Hamlet 2. I think I mentioned that. That's right. She plays herself.

As like a nurse now. She's a nurse and she gave up on Hollywood. That's interesting. The movie's about making a high school play, a high school play. and um she's yeah she's a nurse and she hates the whole hollywood thing and intentionally got away but she was great in it she did a fantastic job it's it's fun to watch that's. A good movie yeah that was that was good in this too i i didn't know what to expect especially with her being sort of the lead and the lead action and she kind of kicks ass i mean she really she she steps up when she needs to and kind of pulls off the action scene so.

Well, so it's a win. It's a two thumbs up, you would say? Definitely. I definitely want to see it just from your take. It sounds awesome.

I've heard someone say that they were disappointed the most at the piranha scenes. It would just, like, the piranhas would come and attack, and then it would just show, like, blood and water and not show the piranhas. No. I mean, again, the CGI is not amazing. It's obviously CGI.

It's a little better than I got from that trailer that we watched, Greg. I saw in that trailer something that was like sci-fi channel worthy. This seems a little better than that. I mean, it's a whole lot of close-up shots of the fish underwater. The attack scenes you don't see as much.

I mean, it's more impressive when the people come out of the water because then it's practical effects and it's fucking awesome. But in the water, it is a lot of just swarming around and blood. So you don't get a ton of that while they're in the water. But they do a lot of like... fixed shots on the fish as they're swimming underwater and that you can actually see them and you can see what's going on the attack scenes underwater yeah. Do they have kind of like that i guess i i don't know what i'd call it maybe the the history channel feeding cam where you know when they're like oh well the the feeding happens the prawn and they'll put meat or something in the water and they'll show like Close-up shots of, like, the piranha biting meat off of...

Do you get any of that? Because that. A little. Of that, but not too much. I think it's more of just, like...

They really go with the fact that it's a huge school of fish, and they're just swarming you once it starts, so... It's a lot more of that. Devouring, like, some capybara. So, yeah, if. Again, I won't recommend it to...

Normal people, but I'm assuming normal people probably aren't listening to us. So if you're the kind of person who misses that in movies and really does love the gore, it's definitely worth it. I mean, and so much of it is dumb. Oh, yeah. But the awesome level of dumb, and you get these characters that are completely...

Just asinine, but they're also played by people you don't mind being complete. Yeah, you've got. I know Vig Rames is in it, right? Vig Rames is actually... He's all right.

He doesn't have a ton of screen time, but he's pretty... He's cool because he's Vig Rames. But what's the fucking stand-by-me, the fat kid? O'Connell? Yeah, Jerry O'Connell.

Oh, yeah, Jerry O'Connell's in it. Jerry O'Connell's in it, and again, I kind of forgot he was in it until he comes on screen. He is a jackass. Forgot where he was. But...

He, you know, it's one of those, well, I kind of feel like he probably is a jackass a lot of times. So you really buy him as this character because this guy is terrible. But like, it's not like he's doing a terrible job at it. He's doing a great job of being this horrible person. So you're, you know, it'd be different.

Yeah, it'd be different if he was just doing a horrible acting job. No, I buy him as this terrible person because I'm afraid it's kind of a shade, you know, too close to who he might really be. You know, in Can't Hardly Wait. yeah when he plays the college guy. He's that guy he's that guy turned up. An extra notch or two house he's definitely a douchebag in that it seems.

Natural yeah that's what it's right there he is that douchebag only if you gave him a lot of money. And he fell off the face of planet two i don't know the last thing he's ever. Done he married that he married um. Yeah, Rebecca Romaine. Oh, really?

Yeah, Stamos is old. Stamos? Really? Yeah. Rebecca Romaine.

He probably doesn't get to leave now. He's busy now. He doesn't have time for movies. But yeah, he's a jackass. And then you get a nice little cameo from Eli Roth.

He's always a jackass always. Seems kind of like a jackass and is never known well in few acting jobs he's had hasn't been known for being a great actor right and he doesn't disappoint here but man does he play a douchebag and he plays it well so once again it's like you're kind of you're like haha you can laugh at him at this point you. Kind of get what you want yeah you definitely. Get what you want with him so it's yeah those are fun and yeah i won't pretend like any of it's like well plotted out, you know, characters or anything. But, I mean, you get to where at least you like the main characters that you're there with.

You like Elizabeth Shue, her son, you know, gets into the whole, it's almost like a Jaws 2 scenario where the kids are stuck out there and we've got to go save them, so. It's that scenario. And you like the kids. You like the Elizabeth Shue. That's really all you care about.

Everybody else can die and does. And there's an awesome cameo from Christopher Lloyd. Oh, nice. That I had to stifle the laughter. He has gotten to the point of playing a caricature of himself, playing other characters at this point.

Oh, my God. He delivers a line that is so hilarious. And I don't know if it's meant to be. I mean, I guess this is a pretty campy movie, so... It's probably meant to be that funny, but oh my God, I almost just bursted out laughing.

I went myself. Oh my God, it's so funny. And he delivers it so semi-serious, as much as he delivers anything serious. Well, that's awesome. So I guess they're just pulling actors that have been gone for a while back out into the...

Because where has Christopher Lloyd been? You've got cameos for him. You've got that Richard Dreyfuss cameo. Richard Dreyfuss? Oh my God, that's awesome.

He's basically playing the same guy as Jaws, only they don't name him that because then they'd get sued. So basically, it's just one of those... It's a joke for the people watching the movie more than anything. Sounds perfect. Yeah, it's a hell of a lot of fun.

That's all I have to say. I definitely want to see it. Slap that on the video box when it comes out. Well, I don't know if I said on the show last week when I was at work, one of my tables was talking about The Expendables and how amazing it was. And I've got, well, I've got a friend who's, he's not like a film Nazi, but he definitely, he's very opinionated, likes and hates, likes what he likes, hates what he hates.

Yeah. This is a movie I wouldn't see him liking, and he's seen it twice in the theater. So I was like, oh, wow. I've heard pretty mixed reviews. I've heard when it delivers the action, it does a good job, but the rest of it's a little lacking.

But again, you're kind of there for it to blow shit up. I think I'll like that. We need to get into the movie theater and see something because we haven't seen anything in the theater in a while. We've got plans for that. Okay, good.

Excellent. We can get to that. Help us. But yeah, that was it for me. So if we want to transition there into your goings.

Let me see. We didn't, you know, working all week, we didn't really have that much geek activity besides. She had seen it before and. And I'd always want to see it, but was always kind of skeptical just because of how the series went. Day of the Dead, the remake of Day of the Dead.

Oh, the remake. Yeah. That's different. Exactly. And, you know, because, I mean, I love the original Day of the Dead.

You know, it's awesome for as kind of terrible as it is. But I like how they went with it where it's basically after Dawn of the Dead. You know, it's the continuation of that. where the remake is kind of, you know, yet again, another re-envisioning of the outbreak and how it starts. Yeah. And.

And I don't really agree that zombies now crawl on the ceilings like spiders out of the blue. You don't know. That makes no sense whatsoever. And Nick Cannon being in this movie. That doesn't help anything.

That doesn't help. But I will say that the special effects, the gore is really good in it. Vig Rames, yet again, is in it. Which is weird because he's in the last one, but he's playing a different character. I'm like, now who set up the casting there?

That's just retarded. And I wish they would have made it a continuation, because I liked how the original Day of the Dead started with the dead roaming the streets of decimated cities. I thought that was awesome. Vic Ramsey, he was awesome. He gets, of course, attacked, but then he becomes this zombie that pulls out his own eye and eats it.

And he is missing his leg, so he's crawling around for the moment that he's on screen. But he's pretty awesome just as him. And there is the throwback to Bud, right? yeah which how they deal with this is a bub yeah i think it's bub bud bud so we don't get called yeah um and you know they introduce the character he's a normal guy blah blah blah and then he gets turned and for no reason whatsoever he doesn't turn fully and becomes this semi you know and i'm like ah i get it this is. The vegetarian storyline didn't it have one of those no i don't think so which one was that oh that sounds terrible one of them had a A plot line like... They wouldn't...

Yeah, they wouldn't... They were zombies that wouldn't eat people. I don't know. There was. Yeah.

Oh, God. There was some sort of weird vegetarian, but... Okay, we'll skip that one. I couldn't remember. Oh, that sounds terrible.

Yeah, well, I'd heard such bad... I haven't made it through this. When I started watching this one, like, I got about 20 minutes in, and I think I went to sleep or something. It's just like that gimmick that, hey, what if? And it's like, it shouldn't have gone past that.

Yeah. Yeah, okay. Vegan zombies. So, the only thing I can say is that, you know, it was... the special effects the gore is good but the whole the rest of the movie is garbage but she god love her she's like Nick Kano's in it I think it's awesome and I'm like yeah. It's not no it's not.

Whatever she's sick so yeah in my head I can pick on you. That's one of those they drop the ball on again yeah you had the remake of Dawn of the Dead like I'll be the first to bitch about remakes they did an amazing job on that I mean there's there's so many good things about that movie So how do you go from a theatrically released awesome movie to this straight-to-DVD piece of crap that had Nick Cannon in it? Yeah. Like, who was in charge of that? Because that's wrong.

You know, and then that's when the whole series, you know, and even when Romero came back and did Dire the Dead, that... I could not tell that it was, it was such a flaming piece of shit. And then when, at the end, when I saw that Romero, I was like, are you kidding me? Like you should stop. Like really, you should stop making movies.

Cause this was a lot of fricking terrible. Um, so I think it's kind of like the remake of Dawn of the dead. It came, it stayed, it went and they should have stopped. Yeah. And all the other, the deads or whatever afterwards to just fricking crap.

But, uh, other than that, because I'm getting excited for the, uh, Resident Evil Afterlife to come out. Started watching, you know, Resident Evil movies to get geared up for it. I love Wes Anderson. I love him directing. the first one and writing the other two. And then, you know, I was like, oh, well, I've got another one of his movies, so I'll just pop that in, which is Event Horizon, which Event Horizon is a Gorgeous movie.

The story, you know, some things I don't like about it, but visually it's fricking phenomenal. It's so fucking awesome. And watching the behind the scenes of, you know, everything they went through to make the sets and blah, blah, blah. Really interested in start watching that again. Um, I just love Wes Anderson, especially since he's married to Mila Djilovic now.

He's basically my hero. Is that his middle name? Isn't he like Paul W.S. I think it's Wes or Wise Anderson. Because Wes Anderson also makes the.

Oh, okay. No, you're right. I'm mixing the two. It is Paul W. WS.

Okay. Yes. I was confused about that. I was like, I'm confusing everybody. Yeah.

I was like, Wes Anderson is like the art house crowd. Yeah. This is the other opposite of the opposite. Because, you know, he did Mortal Kombat and, you. Know, that's his market.

That's his market. But, you know, I'm trying to get geared up for the new Resident Evil just because I've always loved that series. And, you know, no one can say anything to me otherwise. I know what the movies are. Look, I've loved the video games since they freaking came out.

So, you know, I'm on board regardless. And Mila Jovovich, I'm still on board. And let me see who else is in it. Yeah. God, what's her name?

What's her face? Allie Lauder. Allie Lauder, which I love. And so I'm going to be there, which, you know, Joni is also stoked. We're going to be there 3D.

I think they finally realized, like it took them this third, like they were banking on Mila from day one, but then they finally realized. Hey, these geek guys that keep watching these zombie movies also like these girls that we keep putting in all these movies. Right. So, like, I realized, like, in the third one, that's probably why they didn't kill Allie Larderoff. Oh, yeah.

Because they were like, huh, I wonder if we can get her back for another one. Let's let her live. She's not doing anything. So now it's like, yeah, it's like two for one. You've got, you know, two geek favorites in the next one.

She doesn't look like a Claire Redfield, but, you know... just put some hot chick and make her claire redfield and all of us geeks that have loved the game is. Like fucking claire right on good enough i like her let's go yeah. So um i think that's like the extent of our geek activities uh working to the bone is not very geeky so no yeah we're gonna end it on that note all right. Oh this week we actually just got my wife and i were just talking about resident evil this morning my kids are becoming gamers. Six and four.

Not that they were going to let them play Resident Evil, but we were talking. About how my roommate and I, we would all trade off, it was another game with the original Resident Evil, and I guess it was two, and we would sit and we'd actually put the speakers on either sides. Of us, turn off the lights, and give ourselves heart attacks. So we were reliving those days. Today, saying we've got to get the one for the Wii so that we can scare the crap out of ourselves.

That's such good times. But make sure the kids are locked in bed before we ever start it. You don't need them wandering out going, Mommy! If they had a nightmare, now we'll give them a real nightmare. That nightmare was nothing.

Watch this. But anyway, that's not part of my week, I suppose. Sure it is. This is probably the most geeky thing that I did. I watched Nerdcore Rising.

What? It's pretty geeky. What is that? It's about nerdcore rap. Wow.

I know what it is. I know what it is. It's highly technical stuff. They are fantastic. But this is the originator, MC Frontalot.

It's about him and his first national tour. It's the documentary of it. Wow. And this guy's good. That's all I can say.

Musically... Lyrically, he is on point, and then when they get in the hotel room where they're talking with him, he's the biggest geek in the world. To the point of his nervousness drives backaches and pains. You can tell he's probably borderline agoraphobic. It's a good little thing.

It's one of those things where you're like, with real... Real nerds, real geeks, you can at the same time be, wow, I wish I could be more like that, but God, I'm glad I'm not. I think we all play that game. I'm not like that part of him, but I could admire that part of him. Yeah.

It's definitely a good place to to realize wow i'm i'm a lot more like normal society than these people are. But well it's like i think the first time i ever heard nerdcore rap was of course on g4 some of their snippets in between and had like you know some white guy rapping about what systems he has and blah blah this and the other thing and that's when i kind of like you know i was talking to somebody about it and like oh yeah and i was like oh really like I guess it's cool because it's a completely untouched kind of market. I don't know if it is a market, but I'd like to see somebody like that with the production value of Timbaland or somebody. Give him a producer that just blows his shit out of the water because, yeah, technically it's like, well, lyrically you're there.

And what you're saying is blowing my mind because I don't understand all of it because it's super nerdy technical stuff. But but you're working with a casio yeah but i can get behind it you know i'm like that's pretty awesome i'm not gonna like buy an album or anything but i was just like that's all right that's pretty. Cool yeah get an avenue that the nerds can like reach into also there kind of. There kind of is stuff like that i mean there's um there's this group called skyscraper stereo they rap about like Old NES systems and stuff. These guys are like, you know.

Awesome, awesome. Local boys. But you're right. If you could throw in a higher production value... They interview a couple of people that are actually in the rap field and stuff like that.

And there's a couple of guys that are just like, oh, it's just awful. He has no lyrical talent. And I know I've listened to enough over my life to say, no. That's... Just because he's not talking about his homies, bitches, hoes, how badass he is, money, or anything like that, or that he's not from the streets, that doesn't mean that he's got no talent at all.

But just as tight as Rakim would be, just lyrically understands words and how to put them together, and even understands beats and how to put... Rakim's time. Oh, yeah. Probably my best all time, I would say. Rakim's time.

Anyway, yeah, so that was fun. I'll move on. Check it out sometime. It's definitely a good watch. Then I watched Assault on Precinct 13, the original Carpenter.

I haven't seen it yet. It's good. Is it good? I want to work it into the show, really, because it's one I wanted to go back and watch. I knew it was an invasion kind of movie.

Hey, it's us against them. We're on an island. Not on an island, literally, but there's people that can't get out and can't get away. Is it supernatural or a horror in any way? No, it's not.

But it plays on all of those. At its core, it is a zombie movie. It's about... People that just don't care anymore. They're completely detached from society.

They don't care if they're going to die. It's like a blood pact that this gang signs with themselves. They just go. The gangs never talk. They never say one word of speech in the entire movie.

Oh, wow. And they're all this coordinated, what are they doing? Why are they doing this? How do they know to do this? And it's just, these people are trapped inside of this old police station.

And it's, like I said, it is, to its core, a zombie movie without having zombies. That's cool. That's kind of the aspect I want to go back and watch. That seems fascinating. It's a good movie.

And there's, you know, it drags... In that 70s drag, you're going to have to commit to the movie. But it's only like an hour and a half long. So once it gets to the action, it's on. And then, speaking of another invasion movie, I watched the French made Them.

Have you seen it? No. It sounds awesome, though. It's a French couple who live in Romania, I believe. And she's a teacher at a school. is teaching French, and he's a writer, and they live in an old, like, an old chateau, kind of out away from town, an hour or so away from town, and so they're isolated, too, out by themselves, and it's all about things start happening one night at the house, and they think that somebody's pranking them, and they think it's somebody that just steals their car, and it turns out to be another invasion story, and It actually is a true story, which is even more creepy.

It kind of sounds like The Strangers. I was going to say, I think that's what they based the American version of The Strangers on, was this French film. It could have been. Better in a lot of places. To me, since it was in another language and you're reading it, the subtitles, it's even more creepy because you don't really know what's going on as much.

It plays on your typical themes. At the very end, it gets super creepy. But I'm not going to go into that. But basically, it's kind of like... is it the strangers or whatever are the story? A family comes to just fuck up a family, basically?

Is that how it goes? This is actually local kids. Okay, so kids. That's what the strangers was, wasn't it? Just a group of teenagers?

Yeah, yes. And it if i'm interested like that the whole that that movie i haven't seen but i've heard about and that just alone seems really really creepy especially because it's kind of like why are you doing this like what's the point like You. Get the why at the end, and it makes it even creepier. I've heard pretty good things about them. So it's fun, and it's another one you turn off all the lights, you get quiet, you watch it alone, and you're going to be scared to death.

You wear a diaper. That's it. I'm trying to think if there's anything else. I'm sure there is, but I'm going to leave it at that. Keep testing.

All right. Well, I watched.... Boo! You're not gay. That didn't take long.

Boo! Sorry, go ahead. Okay. When I was at the exit in Chicago last week, It was kind of cool. They were playing Death Race 2000.

Nice. That's really cool. Pretty impressive. This is why you were out partying while we were asleep last week. They totally would love it here.

But when everyone went to sleep at 8 o'clock, I was at the exit drinking $ 5 Miller Lights. Sucker. Watching Death Race 2000 and listening to TSOL, which was pretty fun. And it was, you know, subtitles only, no audio. Sound, of course.

No, that's not right. Which would have made listening to, like, old hardcore and old punk and watching Death Race really confusing and difficult. That fits perfectly. Yeah, old hardcore, old punk. And I've been to the exit before.

Last time we watched Meet the Feebles and Pink Flamingos. Oh, nice. They have a really... And they have VHS tapes, too. Yeah, that's awesome.

Backwards ex-operation. It's as bad as we are. We're actually, like. we were the only people at the exit the time before last that I went and the bartender was just like, Hey, here's the movies. You all pick one out. They have an amazing selection of movies, like right up my alley.

How did you find this on VHS? Yeah, exactly. Amazing. Um, but, uh, Let's see, this week I watched the movie Quills, which is about Marquis de Sade. It's a really great movie.

Could have lived without seeing Geoffrey Rush naked. Yeah. That's not what they thought. Yeah. Gross.

He was totally creepy in that movie, but it was a really good movie. Give me some Geoffrey Rush. Wait, what was that? I heard that. I missed.

It. Darn. But I also watched a couple of episodes. It was called the... One of them was called The Luck Child.

It was Jim Henson's... It was like this little series for. Storytellers? Storytellers, yeah. Yeah, that's a good series.

Yeah, it was really interesting. They did some cool version, and they brought in a lot of guest stars and stuff on those, didn't they? I don't think there was anyone in The Luck Child, but it was really good. It was weird. Yeah, it's like amazing stories, but...

It made Jim. Henson kind of. Yeah. I was thinking like the storybook. thing where he did all the fairy tale yeah that's the one they brought in all the different celebrities. Yeah i don't think there were any celebrities in this particular one but uh i think i remember it saying that it was based on russian fairy tales which i have actually have a book about russian fairy tales and those are like crazy the most fucked up fairy tales ever oh yeah i have to dig that book out um but yeah really weird some weird.

Stuff the shit they tell your kids is like You're just really trying to scare the hell out of. Them, aren't you? Yeah, this book, I stole it from my library in middle school. Not in school. I know.

Some of my favorite books. Clepto nerds. Some of my favorite books are the ones that I've stolen unintentionally or intentionally from my middle school. It fell into my backpack. From my middle school library.

My favorite book of all time that is so beaten up and dog-eared and has little stickers and all my favorite poems are... It's a collection of poetry called Come Hither by Walter Delamere. And it's funny because it's like, I can't remember how to play a card game, but I can remember every poem that I read in seventh grade from this book. Yeah, I think the only one I scammed my version of illustrated me. That I think I was supposed to give back to them in grade school.

And I was just like. I read your version of Illustrated Man. Yeah, see? There you go. I remember stealing the.

It's still making use to people. Yeah. Do you all remember the Ghost Stories books? Awesome. There's like two of them.

Stories. Stories. Like, what are they called? I can't remember. I remember.

The scariest stories I ever heard. Yeah. And the illustrations are like these incredible... Really creepy ink drawings on the inside of people's fingers coming off. I remember those were awesome when I was a kid and they scared me.

And I was like, I want them. And I took them in their mind. If you like those, books that I found recently as an adult that have just amused me to no end. Alfred Hitchcock put together a few collections of scary stories. One of them is called Things That Go Bump in the Night that I have.

And another one is Stories That Scared Even Me. And those are like... There were some stories in there that were just amazing that blow your mind. You're like, what the fuck? I remember one that stuck with me.

It's about these weird gelatinous pygmy things that are chasing these humans through a jungle. And then there's this point where the humans find the spacecraft and realize that they're the aliens on Earth. And these gelatinous pygmy things are like, The Indigenous Creatures to Earth. Spoiler alert. Sorry.

In case any of you go back in time to 1965 and find a copy of Stories That Scared Even Me. You never know. Scared Me was Shel Silverstein. His stuff is awesome. It still scares me.

Just look at the picture on the back cover, man. That guy's creepy. The poem about the snake. That guy's a weird dude. Oh, heck, it's up to my neck.

Yeah. Oh, heck, it's up to my neck. And his drawings. Equally. Flip a kid out.

He was a. Yeah he's on children's authors can rarely be trusted they're like the most fucked. Up people yeah i think you're right but. That's why like you know fairy tales i always thought that was awesome when i when i was a kid never really thinking about like how fucked up these fairy tales were but then you know growing up and realizing that they're you know of course like stories meant to like scare kids into like learning things before they're actually like raped and killed. And eaten by wolves but.

I just think that's awesome some of the most screwed up stories you'll ever hear are fairy tales that are meant for children like. And i like that and before if you go back and get like the older versions before they watered them down at disney yeah now you buy a book of fairy tales and they're all super homogenized but yeah you go back and get like those old original versions and you're like. Wasn't red riding hood raped by the big bad wolves or something at one point. Well and then like it eats everybody everyone but then by the end they like cut it open and then like so stones into put stones back in the wolf stomach and sew it back up i'm like this is a fucked up story. If you can find like real grim's fairy tales they're.

Amazing yeah they're nasty yes very strange stuff going on so anything else for you. Um probably but i can't think of anything oh. And i didn't remember but while you're thinking that joanie and i we bought a copy of death note which is a japanese anime but the live action version that they're going to remake in america and i think zack efron is going to be the lead. That sounds totally radical. But yeah we watched the uh japanese live action death note and it was pretty cool and i wish i'd gotten the other.

Two this is not related well this is pretty geeky but this is Every morning, every Wednesday and Friday morning, I don't ever think to turn the TV on at work, but someone comes in early and we'll just sit at the bar and watch TV. So she'll have it on, and she watches. Like, who wants to be a millionaire in the morning? That's kind of scary at this point. Well, right after that, The View comes on, which I absolutely can't fucking stand.

That's really great, Aiden. I put the channel on Price is Right. And I don't really pay much attention, but by mid-afternoon, all the soap operas come on. And I don't usually pay attention to them. I've noticed them more lately because I'll look up and they're like in this amazing mid-century house with like mid-century furniture and like, it's crazy.

But I've looked up at the TV several times in the last week and noticed Eric Roberts on this soap opera. And Patrick Duffy on another one. I'm like, what the fuck? Pay with money. Yeah, people need paychecks.

People need some work these days. Especially Eric Roberts. I'd do a soap right now if you told me. Fuck yeah. Hell yeah.

Pay me to cook. It's just weird like to go so backwards in your career not like I mean, Eric Roberts did have a pretty successful career. Yeah, you go back early to mid-80s, Eric Roberts was like a leading man. He was pretty much A-list almost. But it's just funny, and Patrick Duffy on these soap operas, he was never like top.

Of the line. He was a huge TV star, but either way, he was nighttime drama, not daytime drama. He was on that movie with Suzanne Somers where they got married, or that TV show. Yeah, Step by Step. Yeah, see?

Which. He took the lead there. He was scuzzled by it. He was scuzzled. That's the only cool factor he has at this point.

But I was Scuzzlebutt, guys. Well, he wasn't Scuzzlebutt, but Scuzzlebutt, he was the. Leg of Scuzzlebutt. He basically, yeah, he was somehow involved in the existence of Scuzzlebutt. And that makes anybody cool.

But that is just, I've looked up the TV and I'm like, what? I don't even understand Scuzzlebutt. I can't tell the difference between any of those soap operas. One of the guys at work is like, oh, this is As the World Turns or whatever. And I'm just like, I was named after.

A soap opera and I don't give a fuck. But it's confusing for me because when I was younger, my mom did watch The Young and the Restless. And apparently all the people from Young and the Restless that I recognize, I'm like, oh, it's Nick and Sharon. They've all gone to a different soap opera and they're different people. So it boggles my mind.

I'm like, I don't understand. Well, I don't like seeing people that were on Battlestar Galactica on soap operas. That's not good. I'm just like, you were Jammer and now you're on what? Fuck that.

Fuck you. And there's like, it's really funny because there's this like one old guy with shaggy hair. He's always shirtless and he's always banging a different chick. I'm just like, you're old. Yeah, but he's getting paid for it.

He's got freaking chops though. That's why people keep working on this. He does have chops. Do you know what i'm talking about. No i've been i've been at my mom's house when she's been watching her shows shut up leave.

Me alone i don't see how anybody watches them i'm just kind of like the the plots are so like what mindless and just so intertwined and fucked up everyone's screwing someone else or fucking someone or money's involved your babies are being traded i. Know I don't know what it was, but I was just watching it for like, and they're on mute. So I really have no idea what's going on. It's funny, but I just, I just looked up and, uh, they were like, like going in on this, uh, showing this girl's tramp stamp. And then they focused in on this guy and he, like she had his name like in a tramp stamp and he had her name.

On his arm. Classy. And then they went somewhere and she bent over. Oh, my God. And, like, someone...

It was another. And this guy saw it and he was, like... He had this, like, stricken look on his face, like... Dun-dun-dun. Yeah, it was.

Dun-dun-dun. Like, oh, the drama. What was the one... Oh, my God. That. had like witches and midgets and stuff.

Passions. I was wondering about that one. And a creepy clown. It was out of the, it did not take itself seriously at all. I want to go back and watch that.

From hearing what people said about it, that sounds awesome. A girl that I work with actually named her son Julian after that. Oh, wow. I just can't stand that they can't get through a scene because everything's so broken up for the drama. It's like, it takes them a week to get through one scene.

Like they pick up, almost behind where they left off they're like restating stuff they already said 20 minutes ago i'm like oh i can't watch this it's like. Trying to get through a fight in dragon ball z you just you'll never do it it's like. 15 episodes of that's like trying to get through a fight but. It's sad that that's that's true that's like it's these weird kids shows in japan are like the same yeah Mentality is our stupid morning, daytime soap operas. It's like, let's drag this out forever to keep people watching.

Or a pro football game. They stop it and review and play it again. Maybe everything's like that now. I guess. You've got to drag it out and keep people watching.

I'm glad I don't. What? You don't like football? No, I like football. I'm just glad I don't watch soap operas.

I don't watch any of this crap. Yeah. I'm sticking with my movie. I like to watch football only if someone takes me to a restaurant and I can eat food. You just like to go.

Out to eat. It's an excuse to eat. Her name is Marlena. She likes to eat. This is obvious.

I'm going to watch some football. Are you seriously named after the chick from our days of our lives? Is that? Seriously. Nice.

And you know, if I was a boy. My mom would love that. If I was a boy, my name would be Skylar Whitney. Oh, wow. Apparently that was another.

I thought you were going to say Patch. Wait, Skylar Whitney and then a middle name and then last name? No, Skylar Whitney. Okay. At first a middle name.

I would have probably just been gay, but. Yeah. How can you not be gay with a name like Skylar Whitney? Skylar Whitney. I don't know.

Gay. it's okay. All righty anything else um i think that should round out. Oh my god is this a four hour episode is anybody still listening i'm. Trying to drag it on for as long as i can obviously. Gross yeah well we'll take a break and come back with.

What's the love let's take a really long break A nap and be back. Yeah, right. Where is your head, Catherine? Where is your head? I'm trying hard to escape this constant pull towards it.

Golden, pure, creamery butter. Rich, flavorful, satisfying. That's what it takes for the finest buttered popcorn, and that's what we use. See for yourself why there's no showtime treat to equal the crisp, delicious flavor of hot popcorn that's bathed in real melted butter. It's at the concession stand now.

Freeze. This is the police. Drop your weapons and place your hands above your heads. On Saturday, six members of the gang known as Street Thunder were ambushed by the police. On Sunday, the warlords of Street Thunder swore a blood oath to avenge their dead.

For the gang called Street Thunder, it is a day of vengeance. It's war in the streets. It's terror in the night. It's the most shattering assault on a police station in history. Assault on Precinct 13.

This is a siege. It's a goddamn siege. Precinct 13. Cut off. Isolated in the middle of a city as a human wave of street killers turns the night into a nightmare.

A white-hot night of hate. Assault on Precinct 13. This is Courtney Gaines, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown. Outlander! Kill your woman!

Beauty of Ace I love her till the. End of Ace's head I'm gonna make you a siren. You're the dream. I've seen your picture in a movie magazine. Bathory.

Bathory. How about Jay's Porkins guy? That was awesome. The big, fat... It was hot.

It was funny because I saw... It was awesome. That's what we were saying down the hall. We were like, dude, Porky's doing the dark side? Yeah.

God, he's the fattest... Frickin' oh my god. And it's almost like the scale was so out of proportion because he's so big. Like the helmet was like He should get a Porkins outfit. People would love him.

People would love him if he was Porkins. You could almost charge for taking pictures. Like two bucks. For Porkins. Fucking Porkins.

God. That would be so much orange. They had to cut the flight suit in the back and lay it across him. He was so big. Was he really?

Yeah. Because they only had like a couple of flight suits, so they had to cut the one open and just kind. Of lay it on him. Like, dude, we're going to have to kill Porgans off because he's too big. Yeah.

Having a little trouble here. How did he fit in the seat? I don't know. They greased him up beforehand. Yeah.

He was so awesome. Anyway. All right. We're back with What's the Buzz? Groovy.

Tell me what's happening. What's the buzz? Tell me what's happening. What's the buzz? Tell me what's happening.

What's the buzz? What is the buzz? Buzz is that I'm kind of hungry. There's a shocker. We always get hungry midway into the show.

Yeah. I tried to. That's why I have to finish. I ate a granola bar before I came over here. I've got some fruit on the bottom.

It's got a pang on it. Strawberry. Do you want some? It's good, Marley. There's still some on the bottom.

Yeah. There's some blueberry on the bottom. Roger's like, you can eat the fruit off the bottom of my cup. No, no, no. It's a fresh one.

It's not even open. It's in the fridge. Sure it is. I'll take it back then. Screw you.

Thanks for the offer. Yeah, you're welcome. Alrighty. Other buzz did we record. So it's fairly standard uh age-old practice for studios to either limit or completely skip press screenings for movies that the executives expect will get hammered by the critics That happened with the Weinstein Company with Piranha 3D.

And the funny and very rare thing that happened is the critics generally loved it, giving Piranha 3D a 75% on the infamous tomato meter. Wow. Yeah, which is huge, especially for critics. So, yeah, the, as we mentioned, sexy horror movie about swarming fishies. They opened to $ 10 million, as we said, but it doesn't seem like much, but they're saying it also wasn't particularly expensive to make.

The budget was $ 24 million. Oh, wow. So I'm sure, especially by the time it hits DVD, it's going to make a decent amount of profit, especially if it goes overseas, and they always. Make tons of money overseas. I'd say we'll get a two out of it then, if you...

Yeah, if it only costs that much to make, we'll get a two. That's where they're going. I want to see Flying Piranha. Oh, the spawning. The spawning.

So, yes, as it says, the Weinstein Company producer Mark Cannon and director Alexander Aja are already talking about plans for a fourth movie in the franchise, although this one had not... Well, I mean, there was already one and two, so I guess they're... Which it's not. It's not a continuation. I just saw the thing.

It's like Leonard Part 6. I guess. Oh, God. Although I'm going to pretend like... No, the person who wrote this little news story said they suggested that they call it Piranha Double D.

Ah, die. Yeah. That person needs to be fired. Yeah, I get your jokes. I know you're making it in a...

Yeah, never mind. Fuck it. So, yeah. Yeah, I'm all for it. Go.

So, yeah, the really ironic part is that the producer is citing the critics as part of the reason for the sequel talk. He's quoted as saying, it's fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. I can't wait to get to work on the sequel. So, normally, it would have totally trashed a movie like this and taken it down. Right.

Now they're the main reason they're going to do a sequel now. That just proves that they have no idea what they're putting out. No. Yeah. Because this is something that critics love, that people would...

And you already said that they didn't market it right. No. So they have no clue what they're doing. No. You have gold in your hands and you can't make money off it.

They could have cleaned up the first time out. I mean, now they're going to bank on the DVD sales and Blu-ray and a sequel. But it's like, you know, if you would have done this right the first time... you already would be sitting on like a $ 40 million opening because that's not impossible because I think that's something like what Final Destination, the 3D, the Final Destination, it opened number one that week. And that was a terrible movie, but it, you know, it was 3D, it was horror and they opened it at the right time and it made a killing that, I mean, it cleaned up for the first couple of weeks to the point that they're making another stupid Final Destination movie. So it's like, Had they done this right, Piranha would have done the same thing.

That's all they had to do is show the movie or whatever and be like, do you like blood? Do you like booze? If you did it right, you could have done it internet only. I barely saw any press for it. And you could have spent no money on it, had internet only, and had word of mouth out the end.

They could have. Once again, just drop the ball on us all together. They don't know what they're doing. So as for whatever part two is going to be called for real, they said there's no official word yet, but a few weeks ago the director said, he was quoted as saying, We have many ideas, like a full moon party in Thailand, a huge event with 200,000 people from all around the world taking mushrooms and partying on the beach. See, I didn't realize this guy was so into this, because he, you know, again, he always seems so serious, you know, his first movie out seems like dark and serious, and now he just wants to make partying beach movies and people getting eaten.

Have a good time with it, you know. Yeah, this is such a weird turn, at least for me, but I think I've missed the last couple of his weird movies, so... Still, it doesn't seem to fit his take on his other movies, but he knows what he's doing in this last one. He definitely tapped into that. He's not officially signed to return to direct the sequel yet, but he's definitely on board as producer, so it's good that he's at least attached to it at this point.

I'd like to see a movie where they almost vote to see who you would hate or who you hate the most. put them in the movie and see them die. I think that would be a great marketing tool. Let's put Zac Efron in it. Let's put Katy Perry in it or something like that and just rip them to shreds. Katy Perry's so cute.

She's cute, but I don't like her attitude. She's a marketing machine. She went from being this girl next door image to now, she is so full of herself that it's kind of scary. I was saddened to see that. It sucks how the industry changes people.

A bit. Anyway, I'm just saying put someone out there. Let it go for a vote and let's have a movie where they get ripped to shreds. Choose your own adventure movie. But that's not impossible.

They can actually do that with the internet now because you look at Snakes on a Plane. They changed that movie based on people's response before it was even done shooting. They went back before post-production and like... They reshot that line that everybody said. That line wasn't even in the original movie.

They went back and added it due to what everybody said on the internet. That's awesome. I still haven't seen it. It's the one about all these motherfucking snacks on this motherfucking plate. That became a joke on the internet.

People made up a bad little poster of it with him saying that. They're making fun of the name of the movie, basically. And it got such a response and people so thought it was hilarious and freaked out and passed it along. I mean, it was the biggest marketing, you know, free marketing you could ever ask for. I'm the juggernaut bitch type thing.

But I mean, that one, the online campaign affected the way the movie turned out. So, I mean, you could do something like that. It's not impossible. I remember Misty's phone call from Samuel L. Jackson.

That's right. I got one of those too. Get your ass down here and watch this motherfucking Snakes on Plane. Nice. Oh, my God.

Once again, the marketing on that was awesome. I can't believe they didn't get more on that one when it opened. Just based on the, I mean, yeah, we know it's going to be stupid, but I mean, just the ridiculousness of it. Bank on that and embrace that movie, too. I loved it.

Terrible. I still have to see it. I still have to. See that movie. It's terrible, but it was so much fun.

Yeah, terribly enjoyable. Oh, Lord. So, moving on to Jeremy Renner. That's where I'd go. That's exactly where you go after Snakes on a Plane.

So he finally emerged from years of being a working actor, which means obscurity, basically, with his Oscar-nominated role on The Hurt Locker. And as a result of that, he is now the archer superhero Hawkeye in Marvel's The Avengers. Shortly after, news broke that Paramount was looking for a younger star to join Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 4. And Renner has confirmed that he has landed the role. Mm-hmm.

The thing is, I almost want... Has anybody seen Three? Three is good. That's what I... I almost want to go back and watch it for the show.

I know everybody here hates Tom Cruise, but it's J.J. Abrams. He directed that. And I've heard he did such an amazing job just putting together the stunt work and even the storyline that it sort of... It's another one of those that it eclipses the Tom Cruise factor.

Right. So I, it's one of those I avoided because it was mission impossible and I didn't really like any admission impossible. I mean, there's moments here and there in the first one that are okay. Nobody likes the second one. So it's like, I just avoided the third one, but, In the last year, I've heard so many people come back around and be like, no, you need to watch 3.

3 is pretty awesome, and it's all due to J.J. Abrams. And Philip Seymour Hoffman. And yeah, I've heard he's great. So I mean, it's one of those, I don't mind that the franchise is going on if, once again, they give it to...

And I think he's at least still attached as producer. So it's like. if they can get talented people involved and get, you know, impressive enough that it, once again, eclipses the Tom Cruise factor, which is sort of, I don't understand how he gets, he's still getting cast in these huge properties because he's, he's almost a detriment to your movie at this point. In the last, you know, five years, he's steadily gone downhill. He doesn't open movies like he used to. Well, I think he's done a good thing as in like shutting up.

I don't think he's been so public about his craziness recently that it's, Not like Mel Gibson to where, I don't know if that motherfucker will work again. Yeah, that's okay. I don't think he wants to. He's a fucking PLL. He's just, he shot himself in the foot and he knows it and I don't think he cares anymore.

You know, I think Cruz probably was shut up by the Scientologists. Probably. I think he was so much negative press for them that he needed to shut up for a while. I mean, he does whatever they say, so. Well, we all agree he needed to shut up, but we just for once are on the same side as their crazy religion.

Yeah, exactly. Right. So, yeah, I don't know. But again, that's one of those. Initially, I was like, oh, another Mission Impossible.

But, you know, again, if they keep if they keep Abrams involved and, you know, they bring it in again. I mean, Jeremy Renner's a decent actor, right? Yeah, no, I would be glad to see him added to the mix. It's just the fact that they're bringing him in with Tom Cruise. But it's funny that they're even citing as Paramount wanted to make sure.

Somebody could take over the franchise if Tom Cruise decides to leave. Yeah, they're trying to kill him off. They're not going to. They say he's already expected to star in the potential Mission Impossible 5. So they're already planning.

Are they trying to make it a James Bond? I don't get it because I love super spy espionage movies and it's like they've got a good idea but they just can't make it work. And they were bringing in like name directors and they were just totally screwing it up like the first two were just like these are some of the biggest names around and john woo what are you doing you're totally making crap so i yeah i don't know how all these talented people get together and make such a mess but i don't know so. I'd rather them make Twelve Jason Bourne movies. Yeah.

Which they're not going to do anymore. No. Good, good. Which is, again, let's not beat a dead horse. They really did need to cap it off.

Yeah, yeah. And leave it alone. They did a good job with them, but yeah, you're right. I'm sure they'll reboot it in like a couple of years. Right.

As I said, Ginny Bourne. We're going to see his daughter or sister or his cousin or something. That would be Jay-Born, though, right? You'd have to do it. I still like Ginny-Born.

And then they'll just totally call it Reborn or something stupid. Ginny-Born. Awesome. Reborn. Colon.

Got to have a colon. Any cool movie has a colon now. Even Mission Impossible has a colon. So, yeah. And this was half the reason I wanted to bring this up, though, because I thought this was funny.

The irony, they say, about Renner landing the part of the young spy is Does anybody know how old he is? No. I was guessing, like. He seems like he's 47. See, well, that's the thing.

I mean, he plays a lot younger. Because, I mean, in the movie, they were probably assuming you were going to think he's, like, 25 or something. Or, you know, they're not really sending old guys over to Rax. I mean, you've got to assume he's probably no more than 30. To me, he doesn't read, like, much more.

You know, 32, 33. He's 39. Wow. That's the younger guy they're bringing in? Well, I remember that he was in SWAT. yeah the movie swat like that bad guy or whatever yeah and he was young then.

But even then i figured he was like 19 or something but he wasn't i mean he just luckily he plays younger than he is because i didn't realize he was 39 so he's only nine years younger than tom cruise who's an old man so. Cruise is like 50 he's 48 yeah fucking dumb dad so. Yeah what are you thinking getting old i don't know dumb ass. I've been working for 30 years. How dare you be 48?

I don't know why I said that. I don't know. That just always reminded me of the... How. Dare you work with retarded children?

How dare you? Who do you think you are? Asshole. You think you're better than me? Oh, God.

A callback that no one else can possibly get. But no, the ultimate version of that, once again, showing that sometimes Hollywood and the people in charge don't even listen to their own idea. They're always like, we've got to get younger, we've got to get younger, we've got to cast it younger and bring in younger people. To me, the ultimate version of that was when they were like, okay, we're going to reboot Shaft, and you've got Samuel L. Jackson?

How old is that guy? I'm like, don't get me wrong, Samuel L. Jackson's a badass. He can play that role. But I'm like, he's probably the same age as Richard Roundtree is now.

It just seems like they went to high school together. Yeah, I was like, how is that going for a younger market? It just seems like, you know, don't be scared. And that's what I hate about Hollywood is just go for the newer blood. Go for newer talent that is unknown.

They're just so scared, and they want to make money that they're like, yeah, exactly. We've got to go younger, blah, blah, blah. Who are we going to get? They go for the safe bet, the older guy. It's like, come on.

Or they go the other way, and they just bring in whoever the hot new kid. That's how you get the Zac Efron. It's like, go outside. Look outside of the drowning pool or whatever mixing pot. Go for a young talent.

The same five actors they cast in everything now. You know, my beef with them is, like, the hot leading ladies of Hollywood, they're, like, old. Like, Cameron Diaz. And they keep using her. She's not.

She's, like, in her 40s now. I mean, she's beautiful. She's 35. She's eternally 35. Right.

But that's what it is. I mean, it's different when you're a name. You get to that point where you're carrying the vehicles at that point. So Julia Roberts can be Julia Roberts for another 20 years because she's Julia Roberts. Yeah, she does.

Same time it's just like they're making these movies geared for older people it's like make a fucking movie geared for someone in their 20s like they always have been. But they're finding a new market too they did that with like the old people romantic comedy what was that thing that just came out with Meryl Streep and Alec. Baldwin it's complicated Complicated. I mean, they're realizing that people live longer now. So, I mean, you've almost.

And they're taking Viagra. And they want to... Yeah, they still want to go to the movies and their money's as good as a teenager. So, it's like they have found this new market of, you know, different type of movies with older people. You know, when it comes to...

I remember, you know, when. Schwarzenegger started getting too old to act and I remember I was just like, well, who's going to be the next big action star? And there still isn't one out there. Not like that. Not like that.

And it's kind of like to find those new, you know, I guess replacements or whatever to carry on the genre, which if you don't give a shit, then that's fine. But you've got to kind of go back to the younger, newer, you know, and it's kind of like, I think there are some movies that we just won't have anymore because they're not willing to make that you know not safe call or whatever they're not willing to just throw their their dicks on the chopping block and get somebody new i mean who knows well. I mean some of the genres are just gonna die that's the thing i mean unless we get i mean you get like the the piranha was a good example i mean we hadn't seen movies like that in a long time and it's rare that you do so i mean If you get enough of them that make money, it can bring that kind of thing back.

Well, I don't know if it's just because people's tastes change, but you've got to think about it. Westerns used to be the main movie made. There are none anymore. It's like once a year, maybe. That's a perfect example.

And horror movies died out for a little while even. And it's just like, what type of movies? Are going to be left. Younger romantic comedies kind of seem like they're dying out. Even the ones that they've made.

Well, actually, that Amanda What's-Her-Face girl, she's like the new romantic comedy go-to. The one that was in Mean Girls. Oh, the Seyfried. Yeah. Seyfried is definitely your chick flick kind of girl.

If you need anything romantic at this point, the last year, that's all they've given it to is her. I think, though, they haven't really found what to market. 25 to 35 too because it's a very savvy age a very smart age and they've got money but they're not gonna just go drop cash and you know 12 year olds to 18 year olds they're gonna just drop put it out they don't. Care and they've they've realized that's another one of those markets they've discovered and went you know what these kids have money too whether they're making it or they're getting it from their parents right they spend it just the same and that's how that they love that fucking tween word and they bank on it now and they've realized how to make money off of it.

And they can market it better with Nickelodeon and all that. They can. But like I said, 25, 35, you've got to really. Focus in on that group because I think they're too smart. I think that's where this whole resurgence or explosion of superhero movies and comic book movies have come from for that my age bracket, really.

Because I think, you know, you just realize that We are all big kids, and we are all geeks in some way, shape, or form. You're in a cubicle. You're an executive. You're in that age range. You've grown up with these things.

You grew up with the Thundercats, whatever, blah, blah, blah. And it's just like there's still a bit of that that's a part of you, and I think that that is our age range. I think that the movies that are coming out, you know, comic book movies, blah, blah, super bad, Scott Pilgrim, any of that, I think that is– market and I think they finally have kind of touched on that which is good because we get to see that stuff that we love come out as geeks were like oh yeah right on but I think that still there's a lot of stuff missing because it's like if you only go for banking on what you know people like you still got a kind of sometimes people don't know what they like until you show them right and you've got to kind of go out on a limb to bring something different to the table I'd like to think then people will be like, oh, yeah, and you might start a new thing or carry on something old.

Well, you know, I think what the problem is, like, Hollywood is... They seem to just now be getting this, but, like, I guess people... The... Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. I think the problem is they just don't know how to market to that group. It's like they realize how to market to the kids because, like we said, they can stick it on with their shows and they can do it. And you can market to the old people. It's like the middle ones or the technical end of it has changed.

There's a fine line because there's all these hipsters who are like, oh, independent movies. So you've got to be really discreet about... You've got to be discreet about your marketing because that's what these people don't want. They want to find this cool movie that they heard about someone or Sunday. Nobody else knows about it.

That's probably why Scott Pilgrim didn't open very big because it was marketed like it was the next big movie, but yet it's sort of banking on the hipster crowd. I think maybe we're just not smart enough to realize that they're laying low because that's what they have to do to market to people. you know, people in that age group just because, like. I don't know. I think they're just missing it. I think they're just behind the times.

I think they still haven't fully embraced that that market is in the Internet now. I mean, you know, they... there's so much of it that is completely lost. I think they're still focusing on TV ads and billboards when it's like those guys don't even go there. It's like all they do is turn on their iPhone and they don't pay attention to any of that stuff. So, You're going to lose them unless you find that technical in.

Go viral. It's one of the easiest things to do is go viral. Yeah, like internet and the freaking podcast. It's a whole different wave of entertainment that did not exist five, ten years ago. You couldn't have even imagined how many people would be doing this or listening to it.

So it's like that's something that the official people, the establishment of Hollywood is Has no idea what is going on there and it affects them more than they realize. It's cheaper. It's cheaper to post anything on the web and just have people click on it and it explodes and buying TV air spots or whatever. You could hire 10, 17-year-old kids to come home from work or from school and just Make something. Just keep putting it out there.

They know 20 different ways to let people know about stuff. And it all works. And you pay them. You don't have to pay them making a sweatshop for viral social networking. And you could make a.

That's what it is. Out of anything. That is where a lot of that stuff goes on, and I don't think they're fully realizing. I mean, we are getting half of our news from Twitter at this point. I mean, people are breaking stories on there.

So, I mean, it's like there's such a society going on that's just technologically based at this point that I don't think, you know, they're still going by the old school rules. They're still trying to play it that way, and I think that's why they're still missing so much. Because there's no college class telling you how to do it. I agree. That's why.

Definitely not. And that's who's running these companies, I guess. They're the kids that just got out of these college classes. Fuck yeah. They're so old, they're not cool anymore, so they're not in the know, but yet they've got the position to run these things, and now they'll just run it into the ground, I guess.

Yeah, if I were a... a production company, the first thing I would do is have a bunch of people sit down and listen to podcasts. Yeah. I think that's where you find out how to... A lot of information. I mean, it's...

And it's funny how much that stuff does affect things. Like, I really have seen movies just kind of find a second life because I will hear it on all of them. I mean, again, we've got our own little community of podcasts here and I realize they're talking about it and they're talking about it and then we end up talking about it because of that or, you know, so... it does, you know, it, it is sort of, it starts its own little fire there and it, and it spreads. And that's the way that that stuff gets picked up. Not, you know, not by running more billboards because people are just numb to that stuff at this point.

So, all right. We have ranted on many, many times. What are we watching? Yeah. Hell of a vinyl.

All right. Now we can go on to, um, Now, I'll clarify this, Roger. What's the correct? Anime is incorrect. What's our proper pronunciation?

Anime. I'm going to go with animonopoeia. Okay. From here on out, everybody just refer to Japanese animation as animonopoeia. It is a noise like pop.

Animonopoeia. So, yeah. Guns go bakyun in Japan, apparently. That is a sound effect for a gun. Aklaimed onomatopoeia director, Mirazaki, is now 69 and is moving towards his Studio Ghibli, producing more movies directed by younger members of his staff.

However, the master is not totally giving up on directing more movies himself. God, he's awesome. And what may be his next project should be exciting for fans of one of his earlier films, Porco Rosso. Oh, no shit. Yes.

The 1992 film detailing the flying exploits of an Italian pilot during World War I. Who turns into a pig for some reason. Who has been magically transformed into a walking, talking pig. It's awesome. Hence the title.

So, yes, Porco Rosso is about a pig shooting down biplanes. Oh, I'm afraid of pigs. It's awesome. No, thank you. Acai Buta.

Do they... I'm just not in that world. You know, I've seen, you know, Astro Boy. You know, that's about as far and deep into it as I've gone. Do they just drop a bunch of acid and just like, let's fuck this up?

What if. If I could tell you about the different genres of Japanese animation and what these guys actually sit down and draw frame by frame, it would turn your stomach, blow your mind, all in the same... Yeah, I've seen some scary stuff. It is fucking crazy. It is really insane.

But there's really, really good stuff that comes out of it, too. And really bad stuff. And hilarious stuff. But. I would like to say he's one of my favorite anime directors.

His stuff is amazing. It's always quality. And if you want to get into any anime or anything, check out his stuff. Of course, Spirited Away is one of the best things to drop, just to let you know. But this is very exciting for me.

I think this is awesome. Yeah, this marks the first sequel that he would tackle. And it's titled Porco Rosso, The Last Sortie. Oh, wow. He's revealed the hero will actually be a boy instead of a girl like most of his movies.

And it would be set during the Spanish Civil War 20 years after World War I. Wow. So that's the. That's awesome. That's the good news that he's doing that.

Here's the bad news. The ability for him to make The Last Sortie will depend on the success of Studio Ghibli's next two movies, neither of which he's directing. So... Well. Hopefully it's like his son.

I don't know if he has his son taking over a lot of the directorial or if it's just all young blood. But I have faith in Studio Ghibli. They really. he only employs people that have good visions. And I think that if anything comes out of it, it. Will be good.

Not as good as his stuff, but still good. That's why I'm saying that everybody, you know, I guess go out and support everything that's coming out from there because they're, they're making it sound like that is, it's sort of hanging in the next couple of movies. You know, it's like they're saying if these, Next couple come out and perform poorly. Perform poorly. Perform poorly.

Studio Ghibli will probably shut down and become just a skeleton crew company that controls the rights to existing properties. Dude, everybody watch everything. That cannot happen. That cannot fucking happen. There's three more.

There's one that's already coming out in the U.S., Tales of Earthsea, and then there's two more that are coming out in Japan soon, and... Everybody get out and watch him if you want to keep seeing him make movies, because it sounds like that's, it's all, I guess, you know, money is tough everywhere, obviously. But I will say that, you know, ever since he's kind of not, when he's given up the helm, apparently, to other directors, I will say that the movies that are coming out aren't as good. I mean, because Ponyo was the last one that came out by Studio Ghibli, and it was good. It's perfect for a, it is a, for a kids it's like definitely and he does great storybook movies for children but that also appealed to grown ups also that one was almost more too kiddy it was beautiful but it almost seemed like it was just for kids and I'd like to see him going back to when it was more adult type you know themes not as far as like you know but for an older audience and it is just basically an animated storybook which is good too And I can't remember the last one that he actually directed.

It might have been Spirited Away was the last one that he himself directed. Maybe. But that makes me sad. I don't like to hear that at all. They cannot close their doors.

Once again, if what we just said before that actually has any merit, spread the word and everybody go support these next couple of movies coming out or they're going to shut down. I've grown up with them. Go watch some. And this one I just like because the title is News to Make You Feel Old. Jessica Alba is moving on to play mom roles.

Oh, my God. Isn't that kind of sad? She is in talks to star as the mom in the new espionage preteen movie, Robert Rodriguez's Spy Kids 4. Nice. Yep.

So yeah i don't know what to do with that i mean they're they're basically they have to move on because you know alex vegas 23 now so she can't be spy kid anymore so uh they're they're actually talking about getting both the kids and uh antonio back they don't know if they're gonna get carla back she's still sort of in talks but um otherwise they're gonna be back to play this is sort of reprise as supporting characters but they're gonna bring in new people so she's gonna be the new mom and have like two stepkids and they're going to take over as like the spy kids and they have to go find the dad that's missing. And I don't know. So it's just, it's weird that Jessica Alba. Is becoming the mom. Yeah.

Any movie now. So that's, take what you can get. I guess so. You know, I do start to wonder though, they just wrinkles. They say this, uh, this is the third time she will have worked with Rodriguez after sin city and the upcoming machete.

So, Last time he kept working with somebody, he ended up hooking up with her. Didn't she, like, marry them? Well, that didn't stop. So was he when he hooked up with the last one. So that doesn't stop anybody.

So I'm just saying, Jessica, watch your back. Or Jessica's husband. Watch her back. Have you seen Robert Rodriguez? He's cute.

That's what I'm saying. Her husband better watch it. So, yeah, Rodriguez is expected to start filming in September in Austin, as usual, on the budget of less than $ 30 million. That's why they keep letting him make these movies. He does it for shoestring.

And they come out looking pretty decent. The kids ones don't look as good, but who cares? Most of the time, kids don't care. You don't have to waste an extra $ 30 to $ 50 million on it. As long as they can stick a toy in a Happy Meal, they're happy.

I actually enjoyed the first two. Yeah, I mean, I remember a lot about the first one. It was pretty fun for what it was. It was fun and had this weird undertone that I thought was freaking hilarious. Like, Zoop was, like, mutating people in the commercials.

If you played him backwards, you're like, help us, help us. There's a lot of clever stuff, even in his kids' movies. He's always kind of got something going on. I like our Rodriguez. That's, yeah, a little smarter than most kids' fair, so that's.

Kind of cool. Lava Girl and Sharkwood was bad. Just bad. Whatever. He's the number one star in the world now.

No, you know, I'm going to give credit to Sharkboy. He's not as bad as I have said before. But everything else about that movie, like George Lopez. Well, that's what happens when you let George Lopez in your movie. Yeah, fuck that guy.

Bad, bad, bad. Jesus. All right, so that will round out the buzz. I actually do have the interview to go into, which will tie into today's movie as well. But go with one of my favorite actresses of all time, Miss Catherine Mary Stewart.

So yeah, as I sat there, I pieced together what I thought was decent interview material and questions, but I also had the question of deciding whether to completely divulge what a big crush I had on her. I was going to say, did you ask her out? Well, once again, I don't think her husband would like that. Was he sitting there? Her son was.

Her son was sitting at the table with her. I remember that. Earmuffs, kid. Earmuffs. He's a cute kid.

He seemed actually pretty nice. I've been in love with your mom. Yeah, I didn't know how to do that. But it was one of those, I was like, well, is that unprofessional? No, not at all.

Well, on one hand, it probably is. But at the same time, I think what we bring to this kind of show is a sense of realism. It's like, I'm not fucking John Tesh sitting behind a desk. I'm not going to ask the same stupid things. And you're not going to throw it in in the middle of serious questions.

It's I mean, yeah, we come from a fan base, you know, so it's one of those I thought, and I wanted to pose the question of, you know, how do you deal with that? Because there's very few people I've had that to say to, so I can't ask that to, you know, when I'm talking to Sid Haig, I can't ask him that question. I think he's awesome, but, you know, I didn't feel quite the same about him. Well, and yeah, what did that feel like? I think, yeah, I thought that was.

That's all you buddy that is all you so yeah I thought it was an interesting way and it was one of those I might not have but it also fell at a time where this was several several months ago and it was right after uh cory haim had died and misty had just met him you know six eight months before that and didn't really say anything to him and obviously she's like ridiculously devoted to him but yeah she just kind of got overwhelmed it was just like we signed this and then left and after that i think she was sort of kicking herself for not going you know especially when what happened happened she was just like God, why didn't I tell him that, you know, you were awesome and, you know, you made my childhood.

And it was so important that, you know, I sat and watched your movies. It actually made a difference to me. Yeah, you never know when somebody's going to need that, too. Well, yeah. So it was like one of those, I'm like, this will probably be the only time in my life I'm sitting here in this situation.

And I could be hit by a bus tomorrow. So let's throw it out there. You know, it's kind of important to me. Well, see, you know, it felt like something I kind of needed to do. So I'm even going to leave it in the segment here because I thought, you know, it's kind of, you know, as sappy as I am, it's sort of important, I thought, to kind of throw that out there.

Well, I wanted to tell Linda Hamilton. She was one of the first crushes I ever had on an actress was Linda Hamilton from Terminator. And, you know, I was just like, oh, she is. That's what this was. I was right at that point.

Yeah, she's connected. I didn't sing the song I wrote for her. Oh, nice. Yeah, that, no. I mean, you know.

No, with like a nice poster you draw on another face. I contained myself. There's appropriate ways to approach this subject, and I think that you probably did a good and tasteful way. I shouldn't have sang that song about us getting married. I'm a sappy 13-year-old.

What do you want? Yeah. So, yeah, if nothing else, she's also been in, I think, some amazing movies. So this was sort of just the overview of her getting into acting. And then we've actually got several other things to get into later.

But, yeah, this is the basics. So, yeah, we'll see what Catherine has to say about this. Let's get to it. I choo-choo-choose you. All right.

I should have, though. Oh, let's see. You were born in Canada. I was. You kind of got into the entertainment industry and dancing?

Yes. I started dancing originally when I was seven. And then I picked it up again when I was like 13, 14 and loved it and decided and did it like pretty much full time over school and everything. It was like I went to school, but... Wasn't that interesting in school.

Loved the performing aspect of it. It was in a company. We traveled a lot with the company. And so when I graduated from high school, I decided that was probably what I. Wanted to pursue anyway at this point.

And I. Ended up going to London, England, to study. And that's where I made that transition into the acting thing. One of those crazy stories. Had you ever. been interested.

Before that in it at all well you know in high school i'd uh and junior high school i've been in acting class and yeah i guess i'd always kind of liked performing yeah kind of that ham thing going on it was very shy it's so funny because such a dichotomy you know actors are on one hand extremely shy and you can pretty much most actors are yeah but. On the other hand love to get on stage and show off. It's like a different mode kicks in. Yeah, I think it's a. Way of expressing themselves that they can't do in real life.

You can pretend to be somebody else much easier than you're so insecure. Probably so. Most people have that. They just can't find an outlet for it. Right, right.

Exactly. As you moved into acting, was it kind of a hard transition, or is it something that you fell into? Well, I really did fall into it. I auditioned for The Apple, and I just kind of like, you know, thought, well, I'll just see what happens with this, and after I did The Apple, that's when I went to Los Angeles, and just the fact that I had this lead role in a movie on my resume. People, you know, took notice, and that got me going in Los Angeles.

That's the foot in the door you needed. It was, yeah. It was like the discovering, being discovered at Schwab's kind of story. Yeah. You know?

You take it when it comes, yeah. You gotta, yes, absolutely. You gotta take it when it comes. As far as when you got into it, were you always Catherine Murray Stewart? No.

My last name is, was, or is, actually legally it's Stewart now, but Nursall. N-U-R-S-A-L-L. And the director, Menachem Goan, Menachem Goan. On, um, He was quite an interesting character. Kind of abrasive.

Could be very abrasive. He was like, what is his name? I don't know what his name is. He's from Israel. He had this accent.

I'm like, I don't know. It's my name. You've got to change it. My mother's last name is Stuart. She's Mary Stuart.

That's her maiden name. And I just thought, oh, that sounds a little Catholic. And then, of course, everybody calls me Mary Catherine, and Catherine Mary Stewart. Queen of Scots, you know, Saint, blah, blah, blah. So, you know, you can't escape being teased with a name.

It doesn't matter what your name is. Somebody's going to find a way to tease you. But that's what. I came up with, and I just stuck with it. I just didn't know if you, because it seemed like at that time, it seemed like there were all these other actresses that came along with three names.

I didn't know if just casting-wise it became a problem. No, it didn't. Mary Stewart, Master Sings, and yeah. Mary Stewart, Master Sings, yeah. I get teased about that, too.

Mary Elizabeth Mastriano or Master Antonio or whatever. You know, it's funny, though, when I came up with Kath and Mary Stewart, I hadn't really heard of all these three-name actresses. I was just before those ones exploded. That wave that hit. That wave hit, yeah.

Well, I think that basically I was the cause of that. I think so. I'm the original. I'm sort of like Cher. I don't know what single names.

Everybody wanted Emil. I know. Well, what can I say? It's funny because at an audition years ago, Mary Stewart. Masterson came up to me and she says, I have to meet my namesake, you know, because I guess she got a lot of, you know, stuff that.

Calls from the wrong agent. Yeah. Yeah. But I figured it would take up a lot of the, you. Know, the billboard.

Yeah. That's what you're looking for. That was my goal. Steal the spot. You do what you gotta do.

Oh, yeah. Definitely. It's the only way to get behind it. I bet the vacuum is getting close. Can't you see we're talking here?

Yeah, really. Work with us. You know, this one guy today came by and he goes, you know, when I saw you in the last Starfighter, I thought girls were icky, and then I saw you, and I'm like, oh, girls are cool, and then I saw you in the con, and. I was like, wow, they're even cooler. So I was like, that's a great perspective, too, you know?

Girls don't have to be just, like, cutesy little girly girls. They can get to, like, interest a guy. In fact, it's kind of cool if they're cool and tough. Yeah, I was going to ask what, because I know it's... you run into a lot of people. Doing these kind of things and just having sort of an impact on their life.

I mean, how weird is that, having. I. It's nothing I ever suspected would happen with me. I just. It kind of illustrates the power of movies and the longevity.

They just never die. Thank goodness I never... I really have never done anything that I regretted. Yeah. Because they never die!

But it's... It's a really good feeling. I. I. I don't, you know, know how to even express it.

It's really, it's just a really good, satisfied feeling. If that, if it has a. Positive effect on somebody, how. Can that not be good? Yeah.

You know what I mean? I don't want to take it for granted ever because. I just think, I really appreciate that. Yeah. It is one of those, yeah, I've wondered, but it had a specific personal aspect on this.

Because, yeah, as a kid, I had such a crush on you. It was kind of sappy, really. But that's a good thing. Yeah, it was. And what's also kind of cool is that if anybody ever says that, I'm always sort of surprised and pleased.

Especially if it's a positive thing. It's so cool. And sappy is good for me. I like sappy. Like I said, I really appreciate. that more than ever about the power of movies and just how lucky I am.

Yeah. It's so unexpected. Yeah, it seems like sort of a weird thing that a lot of people don't experience. I just wondered how it was to deal with that. I think in real life, a lot of people don't understand how...

No, not at all. People don't come up to them and, I loved you in grade three, you know, or something. It just doesn't happen. So I try to. Take it for what it's worth and and try to appreciate it never take it for granted you know because it's it really is unique and kind of special.

Yeah i watched i was gonna say i watched sins for your scenes as like a 13 year old boy watching a joan collins movie specifically because i think they had said you were going. To be oh that's cool it's yeah. It's interesting good yeah yeah that was like kind of a neat experience too actually that was um That was a tough one. I had to do some pretty tough stuff in that. It was a heavy topic, and you didn't expect that going into, you know, the Jim Collins books.

Exactly. It was always sort of built like it was some sort of, again, some weird, you know, sex-themed thing. Right. You get into that one, and it's a pretty heavy story. It's kind of dark, yeah.

Yeah, especially for your character. I know, right. Before you, you know. Before I become Jim Collins. The aging, yeah. which thankfully has not happened for me if you want to get like info on your website or if you want to tell people like new stuff you have coming out we can.

Definitely run that well I have a I just did a movie A Christmas Snow in February it's a Christmas movie it's not anything that would fit in here very family oriented very sweet that'll be out in October and I have a Hallmark. TV movie coming out in a month or two called. The Class so. Eric Roberts plays my husband I get to play sort of a wealthy I'm married to Eric Roberts who's this rich lawyer guy and our relationship is a little bumpy it's not the happiest in the world so I drink all the time I always have a glass every scene I have a glass of wine he says something and I'm like it's not a healthy relationship no not a healthy relationship And we're having troubles with our son. And all this other stuff.

But it's so much fun to play that. It's a lot to work with. Yes, exactly. Good meaty character. So, yeah, that's coming out.

And also another movie called Rising Stars, which is about sort of a music competition thing, which is, you know, a lot of stories are about that these days. But this is a little bit different in that it's a group of kids. From musicians to dancers to singers to movie makers, the competition is to put together a video. A music video, write it, and they get a theme. And I just play the totally overbearing mother of this director who's very dark and almost goth.

And I'm very upstanding. Yes, Milan. Very dark. So it was cute. It's a cute movie.

And that should be coming out sometime soon, too. All right. Do you want to tell people to go to your website? Oh, yeah, sure. Definitely check out my website, which I've got a revamp, actually.

So I'm not even sure I should tell people to go there. Because it's at CatherineMaryStewart.net. But also join my Facebook fan page. That's where... You'll get all the.

Latest information about everything that I'm doing and join that. And I try to stay really up to date with that stuff with photos and everything that I'm doing. You did it? Yeah. Well, thank you so much.

I'm glad we could do this. Alright, so yes, once again, thank you to Catherine for putting up with me and actually sitting there, and for both of us for not killing that guy with the vacuum cleaner that was running it right next to us. Jackass. Asshole. Do you not see me with, like, pieces of equipment sitting here?

He doesn't care. No. He does not care. Minimum wage. If anything, he's like, fuck you.

He came a little closer. I'm gonna get the loud vacuum. Jackass. So, yes, thank you to Catherine. And she actually, I've been talking to Tom, who runs her site and her Facebook page, and they're actually, I mentioned we were going to be watching the Apple this week, and they got kind of excited.

They were like, wow, that's cool. And she even posted something about it on there. So you can go to her Facebook page, and it's like a fan page, and you can get on there. And, yeah, they opened up like a special folder specifically because we. Said we were going to watch this.

Yeah. And she, yeah, her, her comment, which actually came from her because Tom said, Hey, she posted this. Did you guys read it? So it says, you know, how cool is this? Uh, anyone that has questions for her directly about it can ask her on that page.

And so, I mean, it's kind of cool that she's responding to even what we're doing now. So she's, yeah, she's obviously very cool, very grounded and, um, still has some, some cool stuff to put out there. So she's got new movies coming out too. So, If nothing else, yeah, go find her on Facebook. Again, Facebook, that's the one drawback.

There's no easy way to tell somebody to go to a page. You just have to search for it. But there is, it does say off to the side underneath her picture, the only official Facebook site for Catherine Mary Stewart. So look for that one. That is the one that's actually run by Tom and Catherine herself.

So definitely go look for that. And if you're a new listener, because you were on that board and saw that we were talking about her movies, stick with us because I've got quite a few of them. There's several other ones that we've saved segments for that we're going to run in the future. So hang in there. Obviously, you must love all of our yammering on after this episode.

She's still here. So, yeah, just stick with us and we'll get to some more of her movies. But otherwise, I think that wraps up this first half. Excellent. I figured we'd go out by me singing the song that I wrote for her.

Please. One, two, three. Please. Please. Dear Catherine.

All right. Nobody wants to hear that. And I never really worked out the rest of the music on it. So next time, Greg, bring in the guitar. All right.

Finish out this song. Drop a beat. It's, what, like 50 years in the making now? Yeah. I should probably wrap it up.

Otherwise, we will invite you to come back and join us for Catherine's Movie of the Week. This week's Sofa Theater feature is The Apple. Awesome. Yeah. Please come back.

It's a sight to behold, let me tell you. So come back and join us. I lie awake and count the stars that you see. I can't pretend. To think of anyone else You smile and reach your hand to me in my dream I wish this night could be as real as.

A song to sing. Always watching as. You glide right. By Always hoping I'll say something more. But when will I ever get to try?

Not today, I never thought to get the rent before. I love the way you walk. To work, you know. I write those silly songs you sing to yourself Always watching as. You glide right by Always hoping I'll say something more But when will I ever get to try?

Not today, I never. Talk But you've kept the rent. Before Is she already gone? I hope this feeling will stay It's all. Down to one I could follow the sun But I.

Can't Wait another day To say hey. Always wishing I might get to try. Gotta say I never talked to Catherine before today. I never, never. Talked to Catherine before today.
