About this episode
Movie Meltdown - Episode 93.2 It's futuristic. It's biblical. It's musical? Welcome to THE APPLE, a weird, wild ride through the eyes of two young singers from Moose Jaw, Canada as they are tempted by the evils of the all-powerful music industry. Words can't quite do this movie justice, but we certainly try to capture some of our wonder and confusion brought about by this film. And along the way we end up finding a lot more going on below the surface then we ever expected. Plus a "One from the Vaults" story from Catherine Mary Stewart herself, about how she ended up starring in "The Apple". “I think this ratchets up the quirky - past infinitum.” Warning: This is a movie, if not an experience, that must be seen to be fully appreciated. As usual, we delve well into spoilers, so go watch "The Apple" before listening.

It's time for Sofa Theater. Good afternoon. I'm sorry to have kept you waiting. May I introduce my lawyers, Sir James Clark and Mr. Clark James from the firm James Clark & Weinstein.
Booker always keeps his word. The contracts are ready. Initial each page and sign at the end, please. Thank you. Contracts?
Why two? Separate entities. Why can't we sign as a duo? Ruling 247E. Paragraph 17.
It's in your own interest. It's in your own interest. Mr. Boogaloo. Mr.
Boogaloo always protects his clients. Just trust him. He's here to represent you. He's on your side. Mr.
Boogaloo, do you mind if we read them first? Fine. Fine with me. Take your time. Just keep in mind that you have an appointment with Ingrid Stockinger.
At 5 o'clock. Who's she? What do you mean, who's she? Ingrid Stockinger's the in-fashion designer. Yes, our wonderful boss is kind enough to buy you some new clothes to fit your new image.
Mr. Boogaloo, did you say five o'clock? That's in 20 minutes. Yes, yes, and the press is waiting too, so let's not waste time. Where do I have to sign?
Right here. Here? Like a puppet on the string, like a monkey on a swing, man is clinging to the ropes of the fantasies and hopes we are dangling. He's so eager to believe and so easily deceived. Like a baby watching magic, he's so gullible, it's tragic in the words of naivety.
Life is nothing but show business in 1994. We fight for the spotlight. We deal for the call. Life is nothing but show business. The world's a cabaret.
We live for the fortune. We die for the fame. Welcome to Moving Up Down the Sofa Theater. Once again, I am Brian. God, this is Roger.
I am Greg. I'm Helena. All right and this week's sofa theater feature is the apple and before we even continue to follow suit with the way we usually do things around here i you know i thought i'd have to do it in tradition. Oh, wow. Candy apples.
Candy apples. I love cavities. Thank you, Brian. How about that? I can stop eating these wheat things and eat this apple.
Yum. Oh, your stick came out. Brian, would you like nuts or no nuts? Whichever. I'm going to go with the nuts if that's fine with you.
Yay. Yay. Handy. So, yeah. Wait, is shit going to happen if I take a bite?
We'll find out. No, we're not watching candy, man. We're watching the apple. So, yeah, in our usual fashion, I thought we needed to kick it off with an appropriate food item. And I thought, well, I could just go buy, like, apples and have a big bowl of apples.
I was like, that sounds healthy. That does not seem like us at all, especially food-oriented, which we have a little comment about that later we'll get to. But, yeah, in the meantime, I figured... Caramel-coated apples. That seems fitting for us, actually.
Yeah. So, once again, this week's Sofa Theater feature is The Apple. The year is 1980. The director is Menachem Golan. Wow.
It took a little work to make sure I got that right, but I'm pretty sure the actual pronunciation is Menachem Golan. The plot, according to our friends at IMDB... I'm. Ready to hear this. Well, actually, they stopped pretty early on, so that's almost why I would argue with it, because it elaborates so much on the first ten minutes, and that's it.
Right. The plot, according to them, is, Alfie and Bebe, two sweet, naive youths from Moose Jaw, Canada, have come to America to compete in the way distant future... I'm adding that part... of 1994, in the 1994 World Vision Song Festival. Although the pair have talent, they are beaten out by the underhanded tactics of the festival favorites. Another duo with the backing of BIM, Boogaloo International Music.
Boogaloo International Music, which he calls them several times. It seems like it varies even within the move. And its leader, Mr. Boogaloo. Though crestfallen by their loss, Bebe and Alfie are soon delighted to hear that Mr.
Boogaloo has taken an interest in their music and wants them to sign to his label. All is looking up for the two until they begin to discover the dark underside of the rock and roll world. And discover means him hallucinating. Once again, that's all like the first 10 to 15 minutes of the movie. We haven't even scratched the surface of what's really going on.
But before we even get into that, it is time once again for. One from the folks. So we will. Swing the door open wide as we kick off this inaugural session of stories from Miss Catherine Mary Stewart. So, once again, we discussed many things that day, but one of which she did sort of go into how she got into the acting business, and this, her first major role in The Apple.
Strangely, a lot of people at this convention have seen it, and I didn't bring any photos from it, and it's like, what? You didn't bring any photos? And I'm like, oh, no, I can't believe it. Because, of course, it would be someplace like this that they would know The Apple. It's a crazy futuristic rock musical, and set...
We shot it in, like, 1980, and it's set in the future, 1994. Way into the future of 1994. But the way I got into that was I auditioned. It's a rock musical, and there are a lot of dancers in it. I auditioned as a dancer, and they decided I was right for the lead female role.
And so, you know, it all happened so quickly, and I was so sort of young and naive, and I just kind of. I didn't even think about it. I just kind of, I went, okay, I'll do that. And it just kind of. Happened and happened.
I didn't really have a chance to think of it. And I didn't have enough life experience, I guess, to be nervous. It's a plus, I suppose. Yes, absolutely. It was a plus, definitely.
And I just enjoyed myself. We shot it in Berlin before the wall was down, you know. It was crazy there. It was so much fun. And just a weird, wild ride.
So thank you once again to Catherine for sharing her personal take on the apple. And now on to our thoughts. So first off, before we even begin, a huge spoiler alert. Because a lot of you may not have seen this movie. And I think it truly has to be seen to be appreciated.
To be believed. To be believed. To be enjoyed. It's something that... Yeah, you really have to see to fully understand or to comprehend what it is we're going to be discussing here.
Or to truly realize that this is happening. Yeah. This movie did get made and that you are sitting through it. I don't know how more people don't know about it. Really?
I just stumbled upon it a couple of months ago late night on TV. And I don't know how until that point I've never heard of it because... It should have a huge, you know. It should at least be a byword or something out there. Right, yeah.
When you're talking about Rocky Horror or Jesus Christ Superstar. Or The Apple. Yeah, The Apple. It should be thrown in there. And, yeah, I don't understand.
Especially, like, you know, me, as hardcore into Catherine Murray Stewart as I was, the first time I heard of it is when she started telling me that story about it. And I was like, wait, what is this? What? What is this movie and why have i you know i've tracked down every freaking thing you've seen over the years i just didn't start that far back i guess but yeah i'm watching sins with joan collins just because you're in it and now i somehow miss this futuristic musical yeah i don't know it's. Far in the future of 1994 so yeah what i really don't understand how i mean it it does have a cult following that's what they were saying on the site is there really are you know people that are into.
It but i don't understand how it's not more how it's not more widespread and there aren't Just, you know, like I said earlier, like, why aren't there parties going on? You know, they're having Troll 2 parties, like you said, Roger. Why don't they have the Apple parties? I mean, how is this not a midnight showing? Yeah, a Rocky Horror sing-along.
I can't see it not. I mean, how has Rocky Horror had the following heads, and this hasn't been touched? As quirky as Rocky Horror is and as catchy as the tunes are, I think that definitely this. Ratchets up the quirky past in Fenton. And the tunes, you know, are just weird enough to nod your head to, I guess, whatever, you know.
And there's so many freaking costumes. I mean, how could you not want to go dressed as one of these crazy people? Or have a prism sticker and a pyramid cut out and, you know, on your head or on your face or, you know, everywhere, which they have on. And you could be selling those. Yeah.
That's marketing right there. Hot topic. Yeah. This movie is so bizarre. This movie has taught us anything marketing damn it yeah so i don't even know how to begin well i mean i did come up with sort of a real version of what it is and it gets you know it does take a little while before you realize it but i think it was like 20 minutes in or something or longer and then marlena finally went oh it's adam and eve.
Yeah yes master Bring the hors d'oeuvre. Our special hors d'oeuvre. My special hors d'oeuvre. The apple. Bring the master's special hors d'oeuvre.
The apple. Shh. Don't be afraid. Taste it. Taste it.
Taste it. Taste it. Taste it. Taste it. So it's like a musical version of The Temptation of Adam and Eve in a dystopian future surrounding the music industry.
Yeah. So that's, I mean, that's pretty close to, you know, what it is, basically. Bim is, or what's his name again? Bimolo? Bigelow.
Bigelow. He's basically the devil. They meet God later on. We'll get to that. Yeah.
Um. But yeah, I guess everything in the middle is kind of like, yeah, the temptation of Eve. And I guess Adam's just kind of on the outside the whole while trying to get. Back to her. And, you know, I guess you could cut it down into a shortened version.
Yeah, that's all it is. That's basically what it is. It's just, it's weird that they chose to do. Like, if you were going to do some variation on the Adam and Eve story, why they chose to do it futuristically... And why they chose to center around the music industry.
Well, I think it's interesting that they're making such a bold statement about the industry even back then. I don't know if there have been. That many movies or anything that had touched on it back in the 80s, especially early 80s. I'm not sure. That's what I took from it really more than the biblical theme, which is pretty heavy-handed, but at the same time, I think what I took more from it was what a satire of the music industry, the entertainment industry as a whole that it is.
It really is just hardcore. Maybe that's why this movie didn't. Do so well. It was shut down from the inside. Definitely a few reasons why.
In this movie, television is a bad thing. Industry is a bad thing. Consumerism and even being... Following the status quo are all bad things, you know? Yeah.
And evil things. Not just bad, but evil things. Completely, yeah. Evil. Yeah, it definitely is throwing a few judgments out there.
Quite a few. Basically, the head of, you know, this super mega corporation whatever is. He is the.... I guess, the ruler of the world at this point. I mean, it's not even he's president or he's just the ruler.
He just, like, whatever he says goes. Yeah, master. Yes, exactly. And if somebody speaks out against him, they don't, he doesn't. kill them or get them out of the way, he just buys them. That's even scarier.
Which is kind of the way it goes. It's scary how realistic some of this is. As ridiculous as the rest is, the themes of this are pretty deep. The more you look at it, the way it's looking at this future, and the future is all about the evils of excess. That's basically what it's using, that Adam and Eve story, to explain the evils of excess.
And It's doing it in this silly way with the song and dance, but I was looking down there, and each of these songs as they go along is kind of hitting on the big stuff. We get to him especially. In the beginning, he doesn't drink. They don't use drugs. They're committed to each other.
They're singing about love. Yeah, they're singing about love. By the end, he's drinking. She's signed on with him. She's doing drugs.
They're both having sex with random people, so it... It leads you down every one of these evils that are, you know, just, I don't know. And some of the songs fit exactly with each of these sins, basically. I like the song about taking drugs. The speed song.
That was a little of both. That was kind of like, I mean, it's very, listening to the lyrics, it's very obviously about drugs. It's basically like boldly calling the entire country of America like drug addicts. Right. America, the land of the free, is shooting up with pure energy.
And every day she has to take more speed. America, the home of the brave, is popping pills to keep up the pace. And every day she cries out for more speed. From New York out to L.A., Poppin' power by the hour. We're also addicted to consumerism and the lifestyle of new and the better and the best.
I mean, it definitely is more than just the top layer. It's a double entendre. It's also, yeah, it's just that excess. That speed is excess, and. It's wanting more and more, faster and better.
It reminded me of the song Life in the Fast Lane. Surely it makes you lose your mind. That's right. Well, I'm trying to think. Did they touch specifically on the seven deadly sins, or were they just kind of in their.
Or was that even a... Because I'm trying to think. They kind of mention a lot of it. There's definitely a whole song about lust. He mentions using people's greed against them in his song, Midway Through.
Yeah, that song is about greed. It's all about using people's greed to his own advantage. So it probably, in one way or another, ties in all of the seven deadly sins. After the earthquake, that whole scene... when they're signing the contracts. Another thing I thought is it's very much, I was trying to catch the different groups of people, and it was very much like Dante's Inferno.
The different levels and everything that they're seeing. I'd love to just sit and you know, look over some texts and then go back and compare and contrast. Cause I know it's all, it's, it's all going to be in there. Yeah. That's, that's the thing.
It's like at first glance, when I, when, you know, I first, you, you mentioned it and she'd mentioned, I was like, okay. And I went and saw part of it. I was just like, sort of glossing over it as like, okay, this thing's sort of, you know, a joke. And it really does. To look at it, it looks like Can't Stop the Music.
It very much falls into the musicals of that time. You've got the Xanadus and the Can't Stop the Music. I think it's one of those that if you go back and watch it more than once, you're going to catch a lot more stuff. There really is. On different layers, story-wise, there are a lot of other layers sort of mixed in here in ways that you wouldn't expect.
But then just on top of that, the visuals going on, the set dressing on these things. It's like an assault on your system. There's a lot of colors, a lot of flash, a lot of... It'll give you a, wait, what was that? And you don't see that again.
A character that is dressed up intricately. that somebody went crazy on in the costume designing, and you see it for a split second. I mean, it's like a serious, serious movie that's just taken so bizarrely. It's not like, you know, it's tongue-in-cheek, really, kind of, but it is. In a way, it is. That's what's so weird about it.
That's what's so strange about it. Is that it's working on both levels. It's like it's very much... That's the thing, because I was looking at it going, well, I mean, maybe they weren't in on the joke. Maybe they're making this movie and they take it really seriously, but we're laughing at it.
But then I'm looking at the part where they do the, okay, it's time for the whole country to exercise. Yeah. And they have people stopping putting out fires and stopping doing surgery on this guy to do mandatory dorky dancing. Right. i'm like okay there's no way yeah there's no way you can take that seriously that's a joke that's that's like ridiculous satire so obviously like all of these jokes they're in on it's not one of those that you can like sort of blatantly point and laugh at because they knew they were making the stuff that's ridiculous ridiculous well you. Know i didn't even realize that that's almost like a throwback to 1984 yeah you know uh because that's what happened in that book everyone had to stop and do exercise and.
So, I mean, it is one of the... And maybe that's why it's 94. Maybe it's their updating of the Orwell. Even more futuristic. Yeah, that makes sense.
And you know he's not taking himself serious because every time Bim does something over the top... Oh, wow. He'll wink at you. He'll wink at the camera and you're like, oh, they know what they're doing. He knows.
He knows what's going on. Cheeky monkey. And they, by the way... Brian, do you know who the actor is that does that? Which one?
Satan, basically? Yeah. He was fantastic. I've seen him in maybe one other thing, but I cannot place it. like i remember his face and his voice. He kind of reminds me uh the the guy in your uh frankenstein movie the flesh for frankenstein that he reminds he doesn't look like him but like his voice and his his you know his mannerisms kind of remind.
Me when he was singing the song about being a master i thought he sounded like count dracula. Well, he does wear the... It's weird their costumes. He does kind of look like Dracula. They mix the costumes because his Satan outfit is just Dracula with a horn.
Right. One horn. One horn. Because he's sporty, yo. Yeah.
This movie had the same vibe that The Forbidden Zone had for me. Kind of. Maybe just because I love that movie. It's weird in a different way, though. Yeah, it is.
Because I don't know that there's any... real specific satire in in forbidden zone it's just weird for the sake of being weird this one really like there's so much tied into it that i think there's a lot of and again you wouldn't expect i mean to look at this or we'll be playing some of the music and you'll be like this is retarded but right it's like if you stop and think about it there's not only the biblical stuff there's also the the industry you know the music industry evils But there's a lot of political stuff, too, that it's like it really is taking this satirical look at politics and the future and where the country's going and where everybody's going and stuff you wouldn't expect from that at all.
And I think the music is supposed to be bad. The music that he's putting out is supposed to be bad, but that people will still buy it. And their first song is supposed to be over-the-top campy because people buy it. I think... yeah i it just it's a lot smarter than it looks than you would expect definitely that it's packaged. That was like yeah go with your uh description of the first time you saw it and you were uh you were putting your comments on facebook yeah i was.
Actually watching this late at night on the this channel my favorite channel and had basketball diaries on last night and they had plug plug yeah they had uh I was like, what is this? In the first two minutes when the opening song comes on, I was like, what is this crap that I'm watching? I'm typing into Facebook, and in about five minutes, I post it again. I was like, cancel that. This is awesome.
Because I could tell there's something going on here. This is going to be a good one, and how did I ever miss this movie? Yeah. I think that would be a lot of people's reaction. Well, again, anybody who would give it a chance.
I think a lot of people, a lot of regular people especially, would look at it and go, what the hell is this? And flip the channel. And would never make it into it, even like five, ten minutes where you start going, wait, there's other stuff going on here. Well, I hate musicals. I notoriously cannot stand them.
I'm not a fan of Rocky Horror. I will say that Repo, I didn't like it as much as everybody, but I did dig it. I think Jesus Christ Superstar was the only one that I was because I grew up with that. I really like that one. But again, that's just a good musical.
Yeah, exactly. And they work in kind of a cool story along the way. Exactly. Again, you've got somebody doing amazing music and lyrics, and that's the thing with this one. It's like, it is bad, and we'll try to go with, you know, that they were, especially the stuff that Bim's putting out.
It's like, that's, it would be interesting to see that. they were or to say that they're putting out something specifically bad because i feel like that's the way it is like the stuff that's the most popular that most people buy into is usually the stuff that i think is terrible yeah so it is it to me that would be a commentary that even if they didn't mean it to be that's kind of how i read it it's like wow most of the stuff that is big and popular i think it's horrible so i think you've got that. And also i think they were like almost putting it out there that, you know, everything that people listen to, like most music on the radio, people feel like they relate to it. Like love songs and things like that.
It was written by someone to sell yeah yeah it wasn't it didn't come from anybody's. Heart but i think those go a little better like the first couple out of really are kind of rough to get through because yeah the first one on the stage you're just blinded by all the glitter and. You're still wondering what the hell's going. Yeah you're still in shock and then when they get to their duo hippie song you're just like it really i mean they are making fun of like folk songs and it's so over the top like Peace and love, and we have each other. And they're just coming out of Christopher Cross at that point in my day.
Well, actually, they're probably still in the middle of it. Yeah, you've still got a couple of years across. So, yeah, I mean, it really is sort of a little too close to home probably at that point. But I think as it goes on, I think some of the other ones, once you get past the apple, because the apple's pretty bad, it's awesome. That's probably my favorite scene because the visuals are amazing.
Oh, it's amazing, yeah. It just keeps getting you. The lyrics in the song are pretty rough. But as you get into the sappier songs, I think they're a little better written. I think the.
If you're thinking of the song that the girl sings after she tells her to go, what. That one was pretty good. I was thinking, well, just from that point on, almost, they get a little better. It's like the. No, the one that he writes for her, the Where Is It Gone.
I've heard that he's treating her well and she's happy I'll believe it when she tells me so Oh, where. Has it gone? Where has it gone? Oh, where has it gone? Where has love gone?
Is it like, I do not like his vocals on it at all, but I'm like, if you gave that to somebody else, it doesn't sound unlike a normal love song. And then even the big, you know, once again, sappy, the big sappy one of them singing to each other in the rain. Yeah. I kind of like that. That one has a very operatic moment to it where it's just like, it really is like, heightened, but at the same time you do start to see, I mean, it really does represent these two characters and then they, you know, can't be together.
It's, it's, I guess that's more of the West side story moment, but those, I think that music gets a little better in that mid port there that I really like that one in particular, I feel like done differently. I could very easily picture it being in the middle of an Andrew Lloyd Webber music right it really like even the orchestration it felt a lot more scaled to that level where it really which again that stuff was all hitting i mean he was becoming the biggest you know music musical creator you know at that point he was right in the middle of all of his hits i mean once again they're probably drawing a little bit from that or satirizing. This is way off subject but i just had this horrible memory flash into my mind and i have to share it with someone friday night i was having dinner with some people at uh ramsay's and uh two of the servers walked by and they just looked at each other and they started snapping and dancing and we.
All like froze we're like Is West Side Story going to break out? What's going to happen? It was so weird. It was the weirdest thing ever. Oh, God.
It was so weird I had to block that out of my mind. Once again, you know, musicals break out around you all the time. I guess. You never know when you're in a musical. I know.
But I'll definitely say, I mean, me not being on board for musicals, and I didn't really fight this as far as, like, not wanting to like it because it was just, freaking bizarre enough that I dug it just for that. Like I dug it just for the wow factor. Like what is going on? And who's like, whoever thought of the costumes and the, and the scenery and put all that together with these characters, seeing these songs, like, What? Just for that, I'm like, this is pretty awesome.
And you get a huge payoff in the end. Oh, yes. Oh, my God. We'll save the end. It's so infinitely awesome.
But, yeah, I'll say that's kind of the same thing. I went into it kind of like, whoa, this is crazy and ridiculous, and what the hell is going on? And then the more ridiculous it gets, it's probably by the time it hits that scene of the apple. Where I was just like, okay, I'm sold. I mean, you've got them basically doing a musical number in hell.
You've got the real vampire. You get to meet a real vampire. Bonus! I did not know that that's what they looked like. Bonus!
There's that prismatic... Stuff on everything, like stickers, clothes, the steps, the kaleidoscopism. Once again, this was the coming of that specific thing. Because remember when it was so impossible to find those foil stickers? When they first made them, they put it on the cover of National Geographic.
Yeah. That's how huge it was. It was like, Oh my God, look what we made. Everybody look what we made. So it was like, that really was like the future, which I guess it was.
Cause now it's on everybody's credit card. You know, everybody's probably got one on them every day of their life. So. It really did worm its way into our everyday lives. But it's funny that their way was like, it's on everything.
It really covers the walls and the stairwells and hubcaps. Stickers on your forehead. Every surface in the future is covered in shiny sticker material. I really like this scene. I think my favorite part of the whole movie is where that guy was like, look what I invented.
It's a, what did he call it? A BIM mark? A BIM mark. And they put it on his forehead and then what's his face? Boogaloo.
Demanded that everyone wear a bim mark and i'm just like it's a fucking sticker people really. And i'm still saying we bring that back yeah because i just got some transformer stickers i'm thinking of putting that decepticon. The kind that you if you put your finger on that it reveals oh yeah i'll take that i'll take one of those. Start wearing one of those around like mood stickers you have to rub it to find out what side you're on Dude, I'm like, I know it's a Decepticon. Look at his paint scheme.
Yeah, but all of them were the Autobot shape, and it only looked like the Decepticon afterwards. Sneaky bastards. So, but that actually enters into another, like, to me, that was... one of the first times when I was like, okay, that's moving into a bigger territory. When, at first, it was just about being a silly musical, and then it moved into being the satire of the music industry. But by the time he decrees that everyone across the land must wear this sticker on them...
I'm like, okay, this is now political satire. When this future world and this leader, as he were, has now decided that everyone. This is very gold star. Yeah, kind of. But at the same time, it's also just like, isn't this like fascism?
At what point does it cross over into... Because there's many times where it sort of feels like Especially when he's like the midway into the movie, we've got our hero sitting in the park on the ground and this guy comes up to him and like hits him with a baton and he's like, basically, well, no, basically he says papers. He asked him for his ID, but basically he's wearing this big black outfit. it and he asked him for his papers i mean it's the most nazi state yeah ever and especially later when you've got almost these stormtroopers come running out in like battle gear it's like there's a lot of like subtle under not so subtle. And even the and even the uh the nuns you can say the religion is part of it too because the nuns are even doing the exercise so everybody's.
Everybody and once again it works it in that everybody is sort of under this you know grand rule of yeah it was one person and i don't know i think that part was what was really cool was once you started seeing that that it sort of crosses over like it was weird i was thinking that in watching it this time i was like it really is sort of throwing out there this idea of so we've spent so much time in this country in particular trying to keep church and state separate yeah well this poses this question that what if like state and the entertainment industry became one right and what if it really was like like you've got basically the the music industry cutthroat way of living applied toward politics yeah like towards the way that you run your company so that you really do have people just buying other people out when they need them or i don't know or like using the press like he just in general like the entire they're doing an entire song and dance number and the press is singing along and dancing with them right next to them.
You know? So I was like, this has a lot to say about like a government that also controls the press and controls what everybody sees and thinks of the government that's going on. Or that you sell the album before you record it. I love that. And the press is doing an interview about the album before they record it.
Before it's out. That's marketing. That's what he says. That's marketing. It's really funny because if you think about it, this century alone, like, The world is controlled by entertainment.
It is. And things that were knowledge have become a form of entertainment. Like news is a form of entertainment. Oh, it's not news anymore. It's politics and TMZ.
That's it. But it's using that. Like everybody kind of knows at this point. And I guess it's always been like that since politics has sort of. moved into having press of any kind that you sort of had to find ways to use it to your advantage. But now, I mean, we've really found a way to.
Yeah, and we've come to an age, and it's been like this for a long time, where facts are manipulated to be more entertaining. More watchable, more readable. You know, things aren't just facts. They're like played with just so people are interested. Well, and also like the, much like this movie kind of overwhelms you.
They found a way to like that, that came about with like the nine 11 coverage went like, let's put so much information on the screen. It's like, you've got a screen split into four with two different people doing this. You've got a tape running at the bottom with different information. You've got footage of something over here that, So it's like, if we throw enough information at you, you'll be so confused, you won't really know what's going on in any of them. It defeats the purpose of having information.
Yeah. So it definitely works that. And I was thinking almost an example where, you know, another movie where they sort of play with that a lot more. specifically is like wag the dog where they start manipulating things and actually creating situations so that they can publicize them so that they can get what they want in the end. So this definitely has a little touch of that, you know, well before they came up with that idea. And the last time that I talked about this, um, when I first brought it up, the two things that came to mind when I, when I saw it the first time were, um, Southland tales in the way they share, they use information and manipulate information.
Um, And just American Idol in general. And the whole thing feels like, you know, if you could look inside of American Idol, who Fox that puts it out is also a major news corporation. Are they really controlling everything? Do they really, you know, do they really count the votes that everybody, you know, says? Or does the news tell you which person to vote for?
You know, is all this being manipulated and we don't see it, you know? Or, I mean, in the grand scheme of things, like, when we have a political... When we have, like, a presidential election, things can go wrong. Who knows who's really counting all these things? Right.
As we saw firsthand. So it's like, really, who is in control of this? And how do we know that they're in control of this? It's just so interesting. And, like, if you watch Mad Men and stuff, or, like...
If you think about it, it's way more subtle now, which I think is almost worse. But everything that we buy, everything that we are, like America especially more than any other country, it's. Subliminal messages, product placement, things like that. It's very George Orwell. It's very.
Brave New World. This segment brought to you by Mountain Dew. Yeah, right? Probably the scariest part of that, though, is that we're all aware of it. At least in the old scary stories, all the people were sort of drones and they were oblivious to the fact that they were being led down this path.
Very literally in this movie, led down the wrong path. But now it's like we kind of know it. We realize it and we just don't really care. We crave it. I think we crave it.
I think we ask for it. this may be more of the coming of all these sins. It may be more gluttony that keeps us from like, well, I could do something about it, but what else is on TV? So I mean, we may have fallen right into that trap of we're so lazy at this point that we sort of go along with what they say because we don't feel like challenging it. Because we're consumers. We're consumers.
We like to consume. First and foremost, almost. And what is it that I want? What is it that you want? It's like, I don't have TV because I can't afford it, but I like watching movies.
I like the internet. I like to play games. These are certain things that I like and want to do and will always seek out no matter what. Even if the big evil corporation is finally owning everything and owns a piece of your. Ass, everybody's. am I going to fight the system by not watching movies, by not, you know.
Well, especially once the system realizes what it is that you want and how to use that against you. Basically, it's that company store idea. It's like, okay, we've got them on board. Now we give them just enough to keep them doing what we want them to do, but not enough to ever, you know, be free and really do whatever they want. Just enough to keep them doing what we want to do, but in docile, yeah, more than anything else.
After 9-11, which was the most unifying moment in American history that I've been a part of, the one thing the president came out and said wasn't go to church, if that's your thing, or go out and volunteer or go help out. No, it was go out and buy. That's what they needed us to do. They don't want you at home watching the news. They wanted you to go out and buy something.
And it became a pride thing. It was almost like if our economy falls apart, they win. The only way to keep our economy going is for you to be a better consumer and a better American and go buy more stuff. So, yeah, we fall right into that trap. But, I mean, what's the way out of it really?
Yeah. Become a hippie? Yeah, exactly. That's what this movie is telling you to do. Television is bad.
They don't like television. That was a very specific quote. I think I wrote it down. Let me see here. As he looks at the hippies and his line was, oh yeah, he says, these people don't like television.
Exactly. And that's all he said. He didn't use anything else to describe who they were, what they stood for. He just looked at them and said, these people don't like television. and that said it like it put them you know it pinpointed exactly what they were and what they stood for and you know so you sort of knew where they were and later they just called them a bunch of hippies which is dirty i. Think they've used dirty hippies from the 60s.
From the 60s so they've been hanging around they've been hanging around in those parks for a long time but if. You want salvation go light fires. In the park yep hippies love fires that's what we've. Learned but not too many just a couple yeah several little fires a bunch of little. Little fires Oh!
You'd think they'd all want to get together in that hippie mentality, but no. They want to segregate into little areas. Oh, God. But they weren't wearing Nikes. Yes, no.
Brand new Nikes. You got that. They weren't the, what is that, the Heaven's Gate cult? No. Brand new Nikes, castration, Hale-Bob, you know.
They were pretty close, Roger. Yeah, we decided by the end that's why this is a cult movie. Especially the climax, yeah. We'll talk about the climax. It's a cult movie.
This is a cult movie, all right. Join the cult. I would join a cult. That'd be cool. Oh, man.
I'd go with Mormonism. You're obsessed with Mormonism. I'm so obsessed with Mormonism. You're terrible. There's a whole bunch of them right down the street from me.
Cool. We'll give them your number. Yeah. I mean. They make you wear a Ben Mark, too.
I hate you to death. I was pretty upset the other day when I realized my ex-boyfriend's Mormon mother took me off her Facebook friends list. I was like, does this mean when the apocalypse comes, I'm not covered? You had it by association. I know her.
I know her. I'm cool, man. She can come. She can come. Oh, Lord.
We'll get back to that later. We're going to have. To have an intervention with you. That's probably true. But for so many reasons.
We just pissed off all the Mormons. Because I'm sure we had so many. So many Mormons. If we had one, they're gone now. Last night I was driving, and there were these two Mormon missionaries on a bicycle, and it was dark, and we were coming back from Cincinnati, and we were on this highway getting on an exit, and my friend in the car beside me, she goes.
Fucking Mormons! Did you say your friend in the car was Amish? No, that's next to me. Amish? Yeah.
There's so many things wrong with that statement. Can an Amish person go fucking Mormon? As they're driving a car. If I'm ever a director, I'm putting that into a movie. That's awesome.
No, she is very Christian. Oh, okay. Or so she says. No wonder. Damn Christians.
Let's call it that. I love how, how judgmental she was. Fucking mom. I mean, I guess it's not that funny, but it was so funny at the time. Damn Christians.
Damn. But the, uh, yeah, I was just trying to look at some of the, the weirder stuff that I, yeah. Trying to keep track of as we went along here. Um, just, just in general, the, the makeup, um, The people in general, you were asking about, let's see, what is, Mr. Boogalow is, now I have to pronounce this, Vladek Shalbal.
Wow, sounds right. Sal? Yeah, Sal's right. Sure, sounds right. Who I believe is actually in Red Dawn.
That's him. Yes. I remember correctly. You are right. That is him.
He's in Red Dawn. He is the guy with, he's the Russian representative next to the Cuban guy. Cuban guy. Yeah. I figured that would be our only reference because he's in a lot of stuff.
He's been in a ton. But I figured, you know, geeks that we are, Red Dawn would do it for us. But to me, you know, Satan wasn't the scary one. To me, his right-hand man was frightening. What was his name?
The Chris Tucker from Fifth Element? Yeah, the Chris Tucker stand-in, who I believe was Shake. His teeth were rowdy. Gross. It was some sort of grill I'm assuming once again looking into the future he saw grill well before the rest of the rap community caught on but Flavor Flav is hype man definitely he was the hype man but it's one of those yeah I mean his makeup especially as it goes on it gets more elaborate and more scary yeah and it is it's just funny that that was the one like as it went on I was like that guy's frightening right that.
Reminded me of a male Grace Jones in a way. Yeah kind of He's freakishly skinny and he's, yeah, he's just, he's weird looking. Oh, the big robe with the, with the little tiny speedo. That look, what? You're not going to wear that every day.
I do want that robe. I don't care. That robe was awesome. It was. And you were going to sauna with me.
Sauna. Sauna. So, yeah, I looked at him and I was like, where is this guy from? You know, where did he come from? And I mean, he's he is an actor, but he hadn't done many movies.
I was like, what the hell? Where did they get him for this? He's like huge on Broadway, which doesn't surprise watching him perform. I'm like, he's very broad. He's very jazz hands.
He's definitely jazz hands. But I mean, he was in he was like, I think he originated Starlight Express. I mean, that's fantastic. huge I mean he was in Five Guys Named Mo he did the musical version of Gone With The Wind and he actually wrote like a piece about the closure of it so I mean he's pretty big in the whole the Broadway area so I mean that's yeah that's Seems fitting, actually, the more I watched him perform this time, even as his dancing goes on. He definitely looks like he's got training and probably knows what he's doing. Speaking of which, the choreography was actually really good.
As silly as the songs are, the choreography was impressive. And then check that, too. It's Nigel, and I don't watch the show, so I'll mess up his last name, Linthgoe. He was the choreographer. They say today he's best known as the head judge and producer of So You Think You Can Dance.
So it all comes full circle. Is that a Fox show? Wait a minute. Maybe we're on to something here. I think we're on to something. wow yeah there's so much of it that really was well i mean was well done.
As for as bad as it was yeah i mean it's i mean there's a level where yes it's a bad movie but again there's there's so much of it that's impressive at the same time kind of for the reasons you said roger but but the the choreography wasn't that to me the choreography was almost like top notch for that kind of movie. I'm not gonna say it was a bad movie i don't i i I don't think I can call it that. I think most people would watch it casually and categorize it as that. I think, again, we look at things much deeper that I think there's way too many levels to just write it off as a bad movie, though. I think it's a little smarter than that, and it's definitely just creative-wise it's worth looking at just for the visuals.
Once again, just going into the sets... yeah are amazing how much time let's talk about just the the future world do you want to talk about the vehicles. Future cars yeah it's decked out. Just adding shit on top of it that makes it a future car random shit like grab bars and like lights and fins and bubbles. Right like yeah everything different colors yeah it's bizarre they went all out and you know there were several scenes where i was like well they didn't have uh CG to put that backdrop in. So where are they building this futuristic looking building that's got a dome of a church in the back and cut that in?
It looked really... I mean, obviously, you can see that it was set pieces, set over, but the scale of a lot of it was very big. And the people that, you know, they had train cars filled with people decked out in these costume singings. And, like, they spent a lot of money or at least a lot of time doing this. I think more than anything, a lot of time because everything was really elaborate.
Yeah. And it wasn't just the stuff right up in the front of the scene. Mm-mm. Even if it was an exterior, in the city they did it, but even in the huge interior song and dance numbers, there was all this weird set dressing going on that really had nothing to do with the singing and dancing part, but they took that much time to deck out every room and make sure everything had weird silver shiny stickers or had some sort of crazy... Like even like the band at the beginning, the musical instruments are futuristic musical.
They're like shaped funky. Yeah, they're like made of lucite. Yeah. Like a lucite keyboard. The coolest keytar you've ever seen.
That's right. Oh, my God. Or like they go in the office and the girls are all wearing like little hats, but they're all clear vinyl hats. Right. Somebody had to make those.
I mean, nobody wears a clear vinyl hat. Because you notice her luggage was clear. Yeah. Like every piece of any set dressing, anything was just like a ridiculous amount of work went into making that. and again most people would just blow this whole thing off as being silly but i'm just like detail this is yeah just the attention to detail and this is amazing and that's almost what makes you need to see it it's just the the spectacle of this movie. Is amazing and the like i said before the amount of like that the scene when they go to his offices at the very beginning and They just have hundreds of people in the waiting room.
I think it must be like an airport terminal or something. Yeah. I think it's where they actually went. But there are hundreds of people all in full costume, all unique costume. And you can tell there's a story behind every single person in there.
Yeah. You just want to go, I want to spend more than one second on that guy. I want to know what's up with him. Yeah, right. Why is there all of a sudden a clown?
Yeah, a clown and a magician and some sort of crazy agent that's representing a ballet group. I don't know. It's like this weird conglomeration of characters. And like you said, they put time into each and every one of those, and yet they don't even make use of it. It's like they really did seem like they all were very individual characters...
And some of them don't even have speaking lines. You just pass by them or they're sitting next to someone. It's like that scene's almost like the cantina scene in that this whole world has its own mythology. And I think that's why in Star Wars that blew people away because the scale of, oh, my God, what is this world? And I want to know more about this world.
And that's that same moment, almost... The same distance into the movie that you see that. It's just like, what is this? I want to know what's going on here. Which means we can look forward to action figures of each and every one of them.
You're going to get the clown. Don't buy him. I'd buy him. I want the tall guy that turns into the midget. That's like a two-pack, actually.
It comes with a special little play set that. You have to move. It's got a little lever you pull, and he swings around the backside, and the other one comes out. Dude, sign me up for that now. Oh, man.
So what else? we've got the do we want to talk about the landlady. What was that about I just the feeling her up that's the scariest it shakes you I mean that's the second time I've seen it I'm still shaking when I see. Him do that she's just she's so like cliche in this movie like in a movie that shouldn't have these cliche characters like she could have come out of like an actual movie from the 70s that was a complete and straight movie about some guy living in her, you know, renting a room in her house. And she's got to give him shit over it. She plays it exactly the same, only it's set in the future.
Yes. I mean, it's so weird. She was Miriam... Margulies, I guess, who actually, again, for references. She's been a witch in some.
She's been in a lot of stuff, but for references that dorks now will know her, she's one of the professor teacher witches in Harry the Potter. She's the... Harry Potter. She's the mandragora on Harry the Potter. That's a gardening.
It's a special gardening show that comes on late at night. Don't you worry. That's why I remember her from. Well, see, I think maybe my take on that was, you know, like a. almost like an A lot of movies about controlled society, the poorest people who aren't consumers, who are below the level to be able to. Buy, are untouched by that.
They're not affected by. The fancy stickers and the music and stuff. The streets she lived on could have been straight out of 1979. That's what I was going to say. That whole part of town looked the same.
It didn't get swept up in the futuristic society because they were poor. So they just left them to be, you know, the slums that they always were. And she didn't have a television. She's got to put that shit on your face. Yeah.
And I think that was very intentional. Of course it was intentional, but I think, you know, like... most things in this movie on a deeper level she was just untouched by that People of a lower class who aren't able to be consumers are usually not affected by it. Yeah, it was one of the... I was thinking that it's sort of talking about the evils of excess and the rich and the powerful and what they all do, but it doesn't tie into the rest of society. It isn't like calling out the entire future society.
It's only the rich people. It's only the ones that are powerful and that are the influential people Or the ones that it's calling out as the evil ones, which, I guess, coincidentally, are the ones that have all the money. Her house reminded me of Charlie's house and Willy Wonka. Kind of. It's a little bigger, I think.
And he didn't have, like, four people in the same bed. Unfortunately. Unfortunately. Because you wanted to feel her up, too. I mean, he gets in there.
He doesn't let go. That's the thing. He gets in there and is like. You know he obviously i think the actor was enjoying. I guess so because yeah you've got this what 25 year old main lead character who's involved with our other lead who is renting a room from this lady and frumpy frumpy what is she mid 60s or something and he comes up behind her and he grabs a hold and He gets two handfuls, and yeah, we're all kind of uncomfortable at that point.
Multiple squeezes. Yeah, and it's not like it's a quick cop. Yeah, he's honking at that point. And she doesn't get upset. No, she doesn't.
She's been yelling at him like their entire relationship of get up and pay me the rent. But she's okay with him copying a few. She didn't look like she got a lot of action. She's straight up in his room. That's true.
She's constantly in his room. Yeah. She doesn't charge him ever again after that. And she feeds him in bed. So I think she really liked it.
I think this guy was just a fucking smart ass player. That's all. Yeah. If I was a single dude and I can't pay my rent, I'm just going to start feeling my lady up. That's all it takes.
What if it's a dude? Either way. Whatever it takes. Either way. You don't want to pay no rent.
You don't want to pay no rent. Yeah. I'm going to check now. No, I'm not. We can do the sexual fantasy dance number.
We can do that. Thing is i don't think we could do that that was very well choreographed we would all injure ourselves yeah um like that no i i don't i don't I don't think that's even a good idea. Some of the times that some of the things they were doing, but yeah, it's basically, you've got like what eight or 10 people in a room full of beds doing these choreographed gymnastic simulated sex acts. Yeah. Right.
And the dudes have on gold speedos, speedos, Rocky gold speedos basically. And yeah. And the women, the women have on nineties and they'll ever, you know, Which, not that I need to see anything, but you'd expect at that point for it to just be all out. Yeah, for this level that the movie operates at, it's funny that there's really no nudity at all. There's a lot of scantily clad, mostly men, but... but you don't get a whole lot of nudity, which you would think another thing that they would cash in on, I guess.
But no, they, they kind of steer clear of that. I'm glad it wasn't. It would have been, it would have. Been even more creepy. Yeah.
But, um, well, creepy enough, as much as the song got better up to that point, when you hit the coming for you song, it all goes right back down. Wow. It's pretty explicit. It's like, and, and, Unsubtle. There's no untundrum there.
It's just blatantly spelling it out for you. She says, I'll take every inch of your love. Drain you every drop. Of your love. Drain you every drop of your love.
Yeah, it's not really a... veiled in any way, shape, or form. It's pretty obvious what's going on here. It's almost like a 12-year-old boy. It really is. Good innuendo.
It's just blatant. It kind of. Reminds me of the Touch-a-Touch-a-Touch-me song. Kind of, only that was just sort of... cutesy that's a lot more catchy that was just yeah it was catchy and that one was just sort of cute really it was just like that was really all she was saying was going on the innuendo was all in the other lines and then what people are screaming out usually but but really i mean if you listen to what she says in that song it's a pretty innocent song especially compared to this song. You know i'm glad i mentioned that song because that's one of my favorite karaoke songs and last time i've been at a karaoke bar i've like god what am i gonna sing i can't think of anything and i've I fucking forgot.
That's one of my favorite ones. Watch out, Akiko. She's on the ground. Yeah, it's on. We're doing it.
Yeah, this one is just, yeah, it's so over the top. And when you couple that, pun intended, with the synchronized screwing that's going on, because it really becomes that by the end of it. Hormones. Yeah, it's everybody doing the same motions at the same time. And again, it gets pretty acrobatic at moments.
And I'm just like, this is a lot to deal with. You know, after the funny thing is, is up until that point, she's she's right there with it. She's just as bad as all of them are. Yeah. The good guy sleeps with her.
And she completely changes her tune. She's like, he's in love with you. And then she becomes a good person. She really does. Because she gets fucked by him.
Isn't that what it takes? It's really that instant, from that instant on, she's good again. So he changes. Isn't that what they're always telling you? You just need to find yourself a good woman.
I guess so. Good man. Good man. That's what does it, according to this. Fuck her straight, I guess.
Fuck her straight. Fuck her straight. Oh, God. That was the theme of this movie. That's the final theme of this movie.
Get fucked straight. You can't smoke pot. You have to smoke pot, actually. You don't want to do speed or... mushrooms or anything like that. But, Pod, you're cool.
Oh, sure. Well, once again, we're moving into the hippie lifestyle. Oh, okay. Are we not ready? I'm sorry.
Well, either way, we'll get to that. I was just trying to think of any other... I did want to address the thugs. The right-hand men. Oh.
Bulldog? Bulldog, and then. Which I've seen him in a few other. Things, too. He is in a lot of stuff.
Yeah, I was trying to figure out who he was. But they've got, like, sharpened pencil teeth? For God's sake, his name is Derek Deadman. In real life? Yeah, in real life, that's his name.
That's badass. Yeah, how much... And he looks like he could be that badass. He really is hardcore. He's in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
Benny Hill Show. See, there you go. I don't know, but I have seen him in a ton of stuff. He's in Brazil. European Vacation.
We're in European Vacation. He's the taxi driver. Yeah, I wouldn't have known that. No, me neither. Never Say Never Again.
Which I'm assuming is probably some thug there, too. Right. He plays a thug very well. He does. But, yeah, Roger was talking about their teeth, and then as the little thing unfolds, because at first they're just like your strong men that are there to be the bouncers of his life, I guess.
But then as the rest of the little plot line unfolds, I guess they're just demons. They're like his demon protection because we've got, and this is one, it's like it is funny that they would do those little flashes of them in their normal outfits, and then they would go to the, you know, these subtext outfits oh and he would he would yeah he was dressed in the the dracula costume with the horn so he was satan but if you notice the uh the other guy was dressed is a snake which is again kind of clever because they never really go out of their way to show you that they quick flashes of him in that outfit. And even if you watch at the end when he's got that really elaborate makeup on, it's almost like this reptilian pattern.
Yeah. So, yeah, it's like they do work that stuff in along the way. It's kind of clever the way that they do. And then you've got his two little, you know, strongmen there that are basically demons, more or less. I mean, why else would they have...
Well, just in general, in the real world, why would they have these giant, you know, canine teeth underbites going on? And they both have it as though they're some sort of other creatures or something. So, yeah, it's just... I thought that was kind of cool that they worked that little... flashes of once again working on the biblical notion that they're going with here on that i do like that they they also stuck with i mean the storyline sticks pretty close to that tale because you bring them both in there and who's the one that's tempted it's eve who's the one that goes along with it and is you know going right along with satan's little plan and he's fighting it and he doesn't want to do it so they they turn that into the whole plot line but i'm just like yeah they they didn't vary it much it's it's pretty much exactly how the old story goes oh sure and i don't know i guess uh if nothing else we've gone through most of the other cast um once again still catherine's awesome I mean, she's so.
Likable in this. How can you have an issue? Even in a movie as silly as this is, she comes off looking pretty good. In her scene where it's supposed to be her, the speed song, when she was dancing, I don't know if it was the shoes or the outfit, but she just looked physically uncomfortable. Yeah, kind of.
I don't know if that was supposed to be what the character was doing, but she was almost pained in her motions. Like... every step that she took or something, almost like, Either she was acting to make it that way or whatever they put her in was just really uncomfortable. Wasn't she a dancer? She was a dancer. So, I mean, she really shouldn't have had problems with the maneuvers.
I mean, she, I think, started off ballet and everything. So, I mean, she really was schooled in that type of thing. So, yeah. I think it was the... I mean, I think it was just...
Like I said, she looked physically in pain. Like something she was doing, like probably the shoes, those boots that were way too tall. So. And, yeah, I think, if I remember correctly, she does sort of build them out, her character. So I guess we were like, oh, wow, listen to her singing voice.
I'm pretty sure that's not her voice. Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah, I was trying to look and see. Voice over.
Yeah, they brought in Mary Hyland, who did the character, yeah, did the voices for the singing for Bebe. But then they said she... She's been on a variety of albums as a backup singer and has been doing children's sing-along albums. She did have a strong voice, though, so it does make Catherine look good. I just assumed it was her.
I thought, if you're going to hire somebody for a musical, you're really unknown. I kind of did, too. Make sure she could sing. I am sure she has a lovely singing voice, otherwise. But for some reason, they went with this girl.
Who knows? But I did almost want to call her out for the hair crimping. I loved it. I like the look. I still own a crimper, Judge.
See, that's what I was going to say. This was the 80s, so I mean, you know, I can't call it out. My sister had a crimper at that point, too. It's 2010, and I still own a crimper. That's just because you're weird.
We can't call her out for her hair color, though, because one of the crew usually has hair very similar, actually. So maybe she was inspired by it. She never claimed to have seen this movie but she's just she's yeah i'm. Sure she would have if we had. Said i love that yeah she probably would she'd be like i like that.
Outfit i've got some questions when i get back. I do like the silver outfit though that's that nice little uh high collar but hot pants album that's awesome the socks from the exercise oh yeah the socks are what made it the right The rest. Of your sock fetish. I don't even understand. It wasn't.
No, it's something about because it was almost like at first I looked, I was like, oh, we're bringing in the leg warmer phase. But I was like, no, they're just huge socks. They were just giant striped socks. And for some reason, that was funny. And that's what made the outfit.
I didn't. Yeah, I didn't really take it that way. I just thought it was funny that they were just giant socks. You know, I'm going to I'm going to get some socks like that and go to my gym. Because there's this guy there who wears a stripy tank top, and he's built really like a big muscle man from 1925.
And he's covered in sailor tattoos, and he has this big bushy beard. And I'm just like, I want to know that guy. So I'm going to work up next to him. You probably like these socks. That or maybe he wouldn't be interested in you regardless.
Yeah. I'm not sure which direction he's going. He seems very heterosexual. Okay, it could be either way at that point. Based on the description, he could go either direction.
He might be heterosexual for guys. Anyway, I'm sure regardless, all you need are those socks. That'll win him over. You have a stripy tank top, I have stripy socks. We have so much in common.
We have something in common. Let's make some lines. Let's make some children. Anyway. That's a good way to woo a man.
Nice. He won't go running at all. So, yeah. Okay, let's go ahead and get into the ending now. We enter into the hippie world.
So let's start with the hippies and then we'll move on. We do, I mean, we get into a very, again, there's very little subtle in this movie, but the hippies versus technology. Mm-hmm. Message that's thrown out there that it's it's very you know kind of hitting you over the head with the fact that you know the people in the city the people that live these excessive lifestyle are are evil and wrong and the the only people that are good are us that are living in this cave and hanging out from the 60s yeah hanging out in the park and uh making kids i guess they didn't really do anything else but smoke weed and start campfires. Completely a white male and female have a completely black child.
I was wondering about that. It's strange. I don't know what they're trying to say, but I like that they're just fucking it up. That it's universal. I will give them that, too.
I was noticing how balanced they really did work a lot of African-American. They don't really get a lot of others. You don't get a lot of Asian characters or anybody else, but you get a good mixture of black and white in all these song and dance numbers. See, for a second I thought it was kind of racist because he was singing I'm a Master song and then there's three black people in the chorus. I'm just like, that's racist.
I think that was intentional. Yeah, I was like, well, but, I mean, he's Satan. He's basically Satan. Yeah, I mean, once you're that evil, racism is really pretty low on your totem pole there. You know, to throw on top of that, that he can flawlessly speak every language, that is very demon-like.
Yeah. they did a good job with that. And that our future society doesn't have one language that everybody is still like, they, they go to that thing at the beginning and there's all these different flags of all these different countries. And we never really get where like America fits into it. Like they bring them up a couple of times, but we never really realized that like the, the world power situation, but it seems like he's in control of everything, at least within this country. So we're assuming the world over.
I just realized that, that this isn't, This movie wasn't even a commentary on how evil the world is, but how evil America is. Oh, yeah. Because these two, the main character, the guy and the girl, they were from Moose Jaw, Canada. Yeah. Canada, this perfect, happy, utopian society.
They were sucked up into the evil world of where? America. Right. That's kind of funny. Yeah.
Yep. I kind of feel that way about Canada, though. I mean, I've never been there, but I know someone from there. I actually used to live with a Canadian girl for like five minutes. She was originally from Nova Scotia, but she'd talk about Canada, and I'm always like, Canada sounds like a magical place.
Sparkling waters and unicorns and shit. If there are any unicorns, they're in British Columbia, I think. I do believe that. Well, there could be something to... Again, I don't want to make some sort of grand speculation here, but our director is from Israel.
And he actually was pretty successful. We can go into him for a minute. He was pretty successful in the 60s and 70s making movies in his country. So he actually did... trying to think uh there's like casblan which is like a a large musical about rival jewish sex and a military docudrama that's like operation thunderbolt so he's doing all these like serious movies when he's over there so i could see him having that sort of uh like take on stuff and and maybe some sort of like damning view of the american way of life But then, okay, let's skip forward a few years to what he ends up making. He directed episodes of Roseanne.
That's a fine American show. Because then, yeah, I mean, he starts off making that stuff, and then he, as he gets to America, he starts off making this kind of crazy stuff here. But then his most successful period is kind of right after this, in the 80s, and he starts making things like, well, he followed up the Apple with Enter the Ninja. Yeah. That is a great movie.
That's an awesome movie. Followed up two movies later by The Delta Force. Really? The Delta Force? By Over the Top.
So, I mean, he is knee-deep in Americana at this point. Yeah, wow. And those are like, yay, pro-America kind of bullshit movies. You can save your child with your arm wrestling. Yeah.
I'm like, it's weird that it doesn't fit anything else up until that point. It doesn't even fit the messages going on in this movie. No. Because then after that. It's almost like he succumbs to that.
That's what I'm thinking. That's funny. Maybe he really. God, Over the Top was so fucking rad. He became.
I want to watch that now. That was bad. When I was like 13, that was my boyfriend at the time's favorite movie. He'd make me come over and watch it all the time. Turn your head around backwards.
Maybe he really was like overcome by the evils of America because as it goes on, he gets more into producing and his producing credits are things like Death Wish 2. and uh the seven magnificent gladiators and uh and uh lady redneck lady chatterly's lover executive producer on that so i mean he straight to show time he completely succumbs to the evils of this country if ever there were some yeah So yeah, I thought that was kind of interesting. Ooh, Breaking. He's executive producer on Breaking. No way. And Making the Grade.
Oh man, see, this guy knows quality film right here. We need to do a film study of his. I think so. I think we're watching over the top. I'm going to nominate him.
Yeah, I'm down. That'll bring back so much memories for me. Missing in Action 2, the beginning. He's producer on that. So I mean, once again, it's weird how Oh, Electric Boogaloo.
Thank God. I was hoping he still had something to do with that. He did have something to do with Electric Boogaloo. Oh, yeah. He's producer on Electric Boogaloo and on the first Missing in Action 2.
So it is weird. I mean, all the Exterminator 2 and Ninja 3. Exterminator 2, Roger. Exterminator 2. He's executive producer on that.
That movie's excellent. So it's funny how much he succumbs to the decadence of what is the bullshit of Americana. Oh, man. That's so awesome. He said, fuck it, I'm going balls deep into this.
I think he did, actually. Balls deep. Probably an exact quote. I'm sorry, I should not have said that. Only with an Israeli accent.
And he screamed it as he said it. Balls deep. Yes. So, yeah, that is a very interesting spin on the hippie way of life that is almost the savior of this society. So, yeah, where...
Let me ask you this. Did the hippie guy, the leader of the pack, did he go out at the end? I know we haven't really talked about the end. I think... Let me see if that is the same.
Did he walk out? He walked off camera. But he didn't go out the way that everybody else went, did he? no because see i'm thinking his character is moses that's yeah i'm thinking his character is he he he can he can get them ready to go he can bring them to the promised land but he can't actually go. Or both because he is listed as hippie leader and mr tops. And mr tops i thought it was the.
Same yeah i kind of thought it was but i couldn't it's a pretty drastic change when he comes back at the very end and if. Anybody wants to know who this guy is think of lethal weapon 2 and diplomatic immunity it's that guy. That's who this guy is. Oh, he has been in a lot of different movies over the years. He's a well-established actor.
He is Joss Ackland. Thespian! Joss Ackland. Yeah. So, yeah, he's our hippie leader, and he takes him down to the cave, and we do have, I don't know, like all these weird.
Was there a time leap? I mean, were they there a year? It was a little over a year is what he said, but somehow they have a three-year-old child. That kid is way bigger than a one-year-old. I'm sorry.
I don't think that these people actually make children so much as steal them from other people. Could be, but he said your child as though it were his actual DNA-based child. Maybe it's just one of those weird hippie communities where this child belongs to everybody. Everybody. Your child.
It's all our child. All our children. I love how they're, they're passing around joint in like, like here, take the kid and I'm going to pass you this joint and it's like blowing in his face. That's awesome. That's, that's hippie parenting.
Oh man. So yeah, we have the cave people that don't like television and. Um, And they're holdovers from the 60s. Yeah. So, I mean, it really is that excess versus minimalism.
And they have nothing. I mean, they have coffee. Right. Which is good to know there's still coffee in the hippie future. But that's pretty much all they have.
Campfires and coffee. But it's organic. Oh, I'm sure. Fair trade coffee. And again, that cave smelled like BO and patchouli.
You know it did. That's why she came in. She was like, oh, do I have to stay here? Fine my stupid because it shows more patchouli on you can you don't smell the bo anymore you don't even. Have it anymore if you put enough on yeah oh so then all right let's cross over into the the final act here the uh the last testament if you will Bim.
Whatever his name, comes to reclaim his property, which is the girl that escaped. She signed a contract. She signed a contract. He's here to make good and to collect. They come out.
They're like, yes, baby, whatever. Screw you, man. I think the hippie leader walks off of the screen because he's not there when the solid gold Rolls Royce comes out of the sky. Yes, it does. Flying out of the sky.
Slowly, just sort of cruising. Just kind of hovering. Cruise control, you know. I'd like to think that God drives a solid gold Rolls Royce. When out of the Rolls Royce comes the hippie dude, but just dressed in white now.
He's got fancy hair now. He doesn't look like a guy that lives under a bridge like he is in the movie. And is basically kind of like, these are my people. They're coming with me. And he tells Ben...
He's like, oh, you're going to take them? He's like, yeah. Yeah, he's like, I'm going to take them. You can't, you know. Yeah.
But she has a contract. He's like, I don't care about that. He's like, so? He's like, and? Did you not see me come up in a flying car, dude?
And they're going to another world where he doesn't have Satan. Yeah. Yeah, he says he's going to try it without you speaking to Bim. He's like, no, you can't have a world without me is what Bim says. Yeah.
Right. Which I agree with, you know. And he says, let's give it a try. Let's give it a try. And he doesn't know where he's going yet.
Which I think is even better. It's like, you know what? We're going and we really don't know where we're going. And this whole commune begins to walk into the sky. And I didn't know if they were all going to pile into.
The clown car. But I think they all just walk with God's clown car. Alongside of the clown car. I wanted to see that. Someday we will all.
Been like Volkswagen buses or something? Probably. That probably would have been better. Someday we will all get in God's clown car. The most expensive vehicle, you know, anti-consumer, but the most expensive vehicle in the world.
Yeah. What does God drive? A luxury sedan. So weird. So weird.
God. So bizarre. Oh man. So yeah, it is one of those like It does pose that big question of can you have a world without evil? Like, can you have good without evil?
No. Because this is a very, like, it finishes the story with we've had Satan here the whole time, and in the end, God comes along. You can. So, yeah, it is a weird, like, how can you have this world with no balance to it that is nothing but good? Unless, I guess, that hippie world was supposed to be the little utopia down there, and had the evil not come, they would have been happy their whole lives down there, but.
But it doesn't even, the thing about the movie, it doesn't even give you a hint that that's going to happen. Not just out of the blue. I mean, you definitely get the Satan reference and the Adam and Eve thing. But it doesn't go straight up to like. But you don't see any sort of. manifestation kind of.
Or just any like even a mention of god along the way and maybe that too is its comment maybe that that that civilization has no god like it is gone at that it's on vacation he just has no place in that society like they're all rich and they're doing drugs and they're having sex and they don't really speak of god so we never hear of god in in that civilization. You know, my mom once dated a guy who drove a Rolls Royce, and he took us to Florida in it. So maybe God is that dude. Maybe God lives in Florida. Maybe God retired to Florida.
I hope not. I think he punched her in that interview. Yeah, that was. That's not my God. I'm sorry.
My God doesn't punch chicks. Maybe she deserved it. Just kidding. If she ever starts listening to this, hopefully it's not that episode. Bitch was mouthing off.
God laid into it. God bitch slapped my mom. Bitch deserved it. This is why I don't tell my mom what the website address. Is for the show.
We're all joking, mind you. Sorry, no thanks. None of that is actually cool. Oh, man. But that was my thing.
In the end, when they all leave... Is it just me, or is that the rapture? Yeah, I guess. That is all. The good people of the earth are being collected, and God comes to take them away, and the leftover evil people stay behind and suffer on this hell that is earth.
Absolutely. God, if I see a Rolls Royce flying out of the sky, I am going to start praying immediately. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.
Forgive me. I totally loved your movie. I totally loved your movie. Wow. So weird.
So weird. It is. Yeah. Oh, man. Now, picture that.
I was already tired the first time I saw this. Two o'clock in the morning, this is on. I'm like, what the fuck just happened? Now go to sleep. Deal with that.
Yep. Oh, man. I don't know. It was kind of interesting because it really is like the rapture. So it's like they work in, again, this very biblical idea of...
Some religion, many religions, actually, they all sort of have this version of what happens. But it is funny that it's not like he destroyed the world. He just took the good people away and the rest are left to live in their little decadent, you know, hell, basically. In his golden chariot. In his, again, God drives a luxury sedan.
Of course. I don't know, that was the. That could drive like a 1994 Toyota Celica. I mean. An 86 Datsun.
Well, I guess in 1994, he may have driven a 1994 Toyota Celica. 76 Datsun, actually. I think it changed at that point. Anyway. It went much further past that.
Into the Nissan era. So, let's... I don't know. I was like, in the beginning, I'm like, so your only real message here is that Record producers are the devil. TV is bad.
TV is bad, and only hippies will be saved. Yeah. Yep. That's kind of, you know, there are big sweeping messages here, and I don't know how I feel about some of them. So weird.
Yeah, I'm screwed. I know that. Yeah, basically. Because I'm not going out smoking anything, so guess what? Yeah.
And we're making jokes about smacking people's mamas. We're all going to hell. Yeah. Or staying here in hell, as the case may be. Oh, man.
Oh, man. So I don't know. My only take in the end was looking at it from, from Catherine's perspective. Can you imagine if this was your first movie? Yeah.
I give you credit for going on and having a whole career because if you're, you know, a young girl, yeah, you've, you've just been exposed to like, you know, hardcore dancing and practicing your whole life. And you, you cross over into this world and you're like, all right, I'm going to be in a movie. And it's this, it's like, scenes of dance numbers in hell with like people dressed up in like pig makeup and a guy with two faces smashed into one head and. Napoleon exactly and Napoleon's in hell and Napoleon. In hell so yeah can you imagine being swept up in that all of a sudden.
Or maybe she's been chasing that ever since, trying to get back to her first experience. Maybe. I bet it was a good time. I bet it was a blast. Oh, yeah.
If you're drinking out of triangle-shaped glasses, you know you're having a good time. Those are BM glasses. Prismatic stickers on your forehead or face or wherever. Wherever you are. I love how the clean-cut girl...
From Canada. He says, oh, no, this pill won't hurt you. Like, doesn't even flinch. He's like, it won't hurt you. It just takes it right away.
I don't think she's that naive. Like, she didn't even know what it was to be afraid of it, basically. We were all cheering for the date rapes. And we were. Like, date rape, date rape, date rape.
I don't know if we were cheering for it. I don't know. I was. Maybe that was just you. Yeah, we were like, go, go, go.
That was just the couch that was cheering. Yeah, I guess. Right. I was on the other shoulder going, don't do it. Be a good girl.
We were sitting. On the couch saying, oh, shit, bitch done got roof. I think I said that. You were on Satan's couch. I was over in the angelic chair going, no, drugs are bad.
I'm the girl. How am I the one that's all like, ha-ha, punch moms in faces. And date rape? Yeah. Why?
Why am I the one that's not more sensitive and offended by these subjects? You're not taking up for your gender at all. You're selling them down the road. To hell. I'm so.
Insensitive. Marlena loves misogyny. I do. Seems to be based on these shows anyway. So, yeah.
Where do we wrap up? I mean, you fly off that golden rule. I guess so. They were sitting around like, how are we going to end this bitch? I don't know.
What do we do now? Car flies? That's about it. Once again, one day we will all get into God's clown car. I'd also suggest that if you like musicals and haven't heard of it, you need a fucking weird-ass movie to satiate your bizarre tastes for.
Or if you're tripping on acid. Or if you're on acid. I think this will blow your mind if you're on any sort of drugs. If you're on mushrooms, prepare to just laugh from the beginning and not be able to stop until the end. Well, we kind of did that anyway, actually.
You don't need drugs for this movie to fuck you up. Yeah, really. This is like its own drug trip. You don't need any drugs. And that's sort of a selling point, really.
Once again, even if you're not into some of the stuff we've presented here, the spectacle of this movie is so impressive that. I think you need to see it. If you're a movie fan on the level of the people who make this show or listen to this show, I would say you probably need to see this for the sake of going... oh yeah i saw that yeah yeah and then go and find it because actually i believe it's on dvd i've seen it was out on vhs and then i've seen uh online that there are copies of it on dvd so you can buy a copy of it and then show your friends and make them experience it with you because i think it needs to be experienced definitely most definitely so anything else to round out the uh The apple talk.
Take another bite of our caramel apple here. Mine's been gone for like an hour. I just brushed my teeth. I'm still working. There's another one here if you want, though.
All right. So with that, we will take a break and be back with the rest of the show. Cry for me. Let the heavens rain down with your tears. Where has all the pity gone?
I stand alone. I stand alone. Probably. Now, before the next show starts, let's enjoy an intermission. What are the odds on Lincoln Hawks?
Twenty to one pounds. Real long shot. Hawks, let's go. The world meets nobody halfway. Remember that.
I don't have a father, sir. The world has always bet against Lincoln Hawks. This guy's nothing. Why'd you leave us? It won't happen again.
I want my grandson found. I don't care how you do it. Do it. But a winner never listens to the odds. Whatever happens, I want you to stay with him.
Dad! Dad! Come on, little boy! Where did we end up? Together is all I can guarantee.
You ain't got a prayer in Vegas. You never had anything, so you have nothing to lose. All I want to do is hurt him, cripple him, get him off the table. All I care about is you. You're my boy, you understand?
There will be nobody halfway. Now is the time to do for yourself. I love you. Over the top, Dad, over the top. Sylvester Stallone, over the top.
Welcome. Welcome. To a night of total terror. That's Mickey Mouse's penis. I know, isn't that terrible?
They don't look to be afraid. They look to be shocked. Here's vagina! Did you see Miley Cyrus' globulous breast? Night of the Living Podcast.
I found more syrup on my pants. There's our adventure in fear. There was, however, a guy using... An experience in shock. More shattering than your strangest nightmare.
Night of the Living Podcast. Fantastic. Holy shit! That just happened. What's that bad man doing to my donkey?
A night of total terror. I can't maintain this level of ridiculousness. They made a song. Night of the Living Podcast. I'm going to do the show!
It's part of your problem, you know. You haven't seen enough movies. All of life's riddles are answered in the movies. And now, on with the show. I'm cool.
You let me tempt you and tease you and hold you and squeeze you and feel every inch of your love let me. Show you things you never dreamed of. All right, we are back. And we've kind of got feedback. Once again, you guys are slacking on the actual phone-ins and even emails you're kind of slacking on.
But again, since we wanted to, most of the rest of the gang doesn't get the tweets, if you will. So we got a few key ones this week that I thought I would pass on to you guys. And I'm not writing in anymore. Frickin' tweets. You're slacking since you're sitting here.
You should, like, email. Comment why you're sitting here. No, email right before you leave and then come over here and, like, catch it. Yeah. Meet it at the other end.
That guy sucks. Man, fuck you, Greg. What the fuck is his problem? That guy's a loser. So, yeah, these are all from Nick at Eskimo.
He's, like, one of my favorites now because we actually hear from him. Yeah, right? So screw the rest of you guys. For real. And I like it almost as he goes along in the episode, we get like specific events that gets commented on.
So first of all, I guess he was early on in our little road trip last week and he sent us one that says, Please tell me someone got McGriddles when y'all stopped at Mickey D's. I love that shit. Oh, it's the best thing they have there. Now, I'm saying if I would have gotten something, I would have gotten a McGriddle because I am on board with y'all. I've never been on board.
I've tried to eat one. I'm just, I cannot do it. It's too much. I can't have cheese on it. But other than that, it's McGriddle with cheese.
I already loaded up. On donuts that morning. Otherwise, I didn't know we were going to stop at McDonald's. That was the whole Roger camp that came up with that plan. Dude, we had to get some breakfast, you know?
So, yeah. Otherwise, yes, I would have been on top of that McGriddles. Which is funny that he brought up the food and that he was on board with this, what most people think is probably disgusting food item that I was going to eat. Yeah, he follows that comment up with, Oh, dear Jiminy. The movie Meltdown Food Talk made me throw up in my mouth a little.
Nice. That's awesome. Which I followed up with, I asked him, so was that when we got to the part about the hamburgers with donuts for buns? Yeah. To which he said back with, yeah.
Crispy. He said, yeah, that did it. I stood in line at that booth and could only bring myself to get the. Sweet potato fries. I want to sell out.
Okay. They were eight bucks, dude. You know, once again, for the ridiculous factor, I would have saved up all week and be like, you know what? I'm going to eat that thing. I can put a damn hamburger on two Krispy Kreme donuts at home.
Yeah. You know, I'll give you that. If you go do that at home, I mean, you can go buy them at Krispy Kreme. Fair drop boxes on that shit. It's a fair choice.
If they deep fried the whole thing. That's what I said. I was like, why aren't they deep frying this whole thing? Sweet potato fries are really good, though. But based on his comment i was thinking maybe this is like a new little you know tagline well the new little tagline we need to have and i was thinking it's all about the timing so wait for it movie meltdown we make you throw up in your mouth a little a little bit i was like you know you need to start working on.
That movie meltdown we make people throw up in their mouth a little bit a little bit. Yes i think that's you know I'll work on getting that out there to the masses. Be proud of, be a part of something. I'm sure that'll win people over that haven't listened or turn away. What is this website?
So yeah, he follows that up with also scary crotch talk means I'll never go to a con. Yeah. I think that was your, it's not a reason to stay away, but it's, that's what I said. I was like, ah, come on. It was fun.
As long as you can hear clear of it. What was the quote? The tall guy with the, that was a moonlight level of. Junk at face level. Yeah.
That was probably, I might've specifically, you were the one that said, um, seeing guys junk in their, uh, latex spandex or whatever. Yeah. Yeah. God. Oh man.
But, but I like the last one, but the last one sort of rounds it out. And if only Joni were here, cause I'm pretty sure this was her comment. He follows it up with, Oh fuck me. I can taste how you smell is the greatest thing ever. Yeah.
Oh, God, just imagining. Oh, God, so gross. I ran. I ran back to the hotel room. I'm like, I can't do this.
I can't do this. Help me. Oh, so yes, that was our Twitter feedback. Thank you. Thank you, Nick at Eskimo.
As always, we love to hear from you. Don't make us smile. Bringing that up, yeah, we need to hear from everybody. And I kind of want to get, because I know where to find him. And Barb.
And prizes. Well, no, because nobody ever comes through for us, so I'm not even giving prizes anymore. But that's why you have fake prizes. Well, they're fake listeners because they don't come through for us. I've put out prizes before and people haven't even claimed them, so screw them.
I'm keeping the prizes. But, yeah, when they upgraded our system that sort of uploads the stuff onto the interwebs, the new function that it has tells us where the people are like where the downloads are located that's kind of well yeah it is sort of scary and big brother like but at the same time it's kind of cool because now i'm looking at it going do we have all these people where like so yeah i was gonna bring it up and and uh i kind of want to hear from these other locations because it gives us a breakdown of well i just i can just read the uh the the rundown here because there's a huge huge amount of people downloading in texas nice a massive amount like a huge austin uh some of it let me see if i can understand that It's San Antonio.
Our show? Our show. They have a draft house there as well. A massive amount from San Antonio. Let's see.
Dallas-Fort Worth. Is it Pee Wee Herman? I don't know. You tell me. In the basement.
In the basement. In the basement of the Alamo. That's it. So, yeah, we've got a ton in Texas. Righteous.
Actually, when we make fun of Canada, we've got a good little slice in Ontario. I wasn't making fun of Canada. Misty loves to make fun of Canada. I fucking love Canada. Love you, Canada.
Yeah, you love them now. Shit. No, I was talking earlier. No, it's Misty. Sparkling lakes and unicorns.
And unicorns. Yeah. Ketchup potato chips. So, yeah, there's a good amount from Ohio. I can see that.
We've got our friends in Cincinnati area. Cincinnati. And Tennessee, which I didn't see coming. But yeah, the massive amounts in Texas, I didn't see coming. That's awesome.
I knew we had a few. Excellent for representing. We've got another show in the UK. We've got a decent amount of people downloading from the UK. There's been some in China, India, Australia I knew about, Philippines, Germany, Singapore, Norway.
So my question is, where are you guys? We want to hear from you. I want to hear your accent. and click definitely words letters like misty i'm creepy you know. Cambodia we've got people in cambodia. The czech republic i mean i want.
To hear from these people yeah japan portugal korea we've got downloads. In all of these places all of you who do listen from all these places and you're awesome you rock but aren't letting. Us know your voice yeah it's like Now, I don't know if everybody has, like, super cell phone that they can call for free. Whatever. If so, if not, Skype us a message.
I don't care. I mean, there's got to be a. But if nothing else, or MP3, you can record. I'll throw that challenge. Tell us we suck.
Yeah, record an MP3 and attach it to an email. That's free. Like, I hate listening to you guys every week. But, yeah, if nothing else, emails are free. Come on, man.
You've all got email if you're downloading shit. So send us an email. Let us know where you're at. I mean, again, I know of a couple that we actually get feedback from pretty regular from Texas. But that's like two of you.
So everybody else, let's hear it. Because you're out there in every other country in the world. Are these downloads straight from the site or from the iTunes? It does a breakdown of both. I think it's either way.
So, yeah, it's... I mean, a good majority of them are from iTunes because iTunes rules the world at this point. But aside from that, yeah, I think it factors in stuff straight off the website as well. Approximately how many listeners do we have? Don't talk about it.
A billion. Okay. Yeah, somewhere between one and a billion. One and a billion. Okay, good.
All of your friends are listening to movies. Well, you just listed what? different places, so it's at least 15. There you go. I'm surprised that two people listen to our show. We have 15 listeners. and we make you throw up 15.
Strong we're at least 15 strong 15 strong 15 country strong soon world domination it would be funny if. That was just me like i went from city to city. No that would not be funny marlena she knows how to reroute her ip. Address No, just go from city to city and use people's computers and download them. I really want you to run to Indonesia real quick and download it a couple times.
Cambodia. Cambodia. They have iPods in Cambodia? That just always makes me think of... It's apocalypse now.
We're right here in Cambodia. Well, I mean, he was just sort of sitting in a huddle all day. Maybe he's downloading Movie Mountain. And then he sits there going, the horror. The horror of this damn show.
So, yeah. God, I should screen what I say. That makes me feel good. Because, like, what if I say something offensive and I get punched down the street? Well, that's true.
Only when you go to Indonesia. If you don't like what Marlena says, come punch her in the face. It's a new contest. Hey. Don't live within the shackles of fear.
Be what you want to be. Say what you want to say. Shit. That's what I'm saying. People are going to love you for saying fucked up shit more than being like...
That's the thing. The only feedback we get is usually to something horrible we did or said. So, I mean, the only people that seem to like us are the ones that acknowledge that we're all horrible people. I like making people feel feelings. Whether it's rage, anger, you know, like.
Or maybe they all feel dirty. That's possibly true. Maybe they lock themselves in their bathroom or their closet and listen to us and don't want anyone to know. While they're in the shower, cowering, crying. I like that we were also on the.
Snorting. Our other feedback this past week attached to one of our little reposts to send the message out to other people that was about the new episode was a follow-back comment that said, Movie Meltdown voted most likely to steal your lunch money. Nice. So are we are the cast voted most likely to steal your lunch money so yeah that's that's us you have those kangaroo shoes with a zipper pouch where you put your fucking roughnecks and loved the world around i hate my dollar bills and my roots always got sweaty yeah see i just put quarters in my key and quarters i. Just usually have this bulging pocket full.
Of cash This is probably something you don't want to tell me. Punch her in the face and make sure you get the bulging pocket of sweaty money. I mean, stripping leads to that. Come on now. Shut up, I'm not a stripper.
You're winning people over. She has to defend herself and clarify, I am not a stripper. I'm a superhero. I'm an exotic danza. You're a superhero that shakes people down for money.
Danza for money. You finance yourself like Big Daddy. Yeah. We beat the hell of them and take their money. That's cool.
Thank you for the feedback. Yes, definitely. Excellent. And that's, yeah, that was my thing is I saw all these different places. I was like, where are, and really just like not even complaining, just like curiosity at this point.
I was like, where do you live? How did you find us? Yeah. I want to hear more of your story, really. It's one guy that is a business traveler just downloading from different places.
That's awesome. If you're George Clooney, you're up in the air, man. That's cool. If he's that cool, I want to hear from him. I want to hear from you, too.
He's the most interesting man in the world. So, yeah, it's nothing else. His mom has a tattoo that says son. Son. I want to hear from that guy, too.
I do. All of you quit slacking off, especially in these weird locales. We want to hear from you. Or even the U.S. locale. We're hearing from about five people in five cities.
There's a hell of a lot more cities listed there. We should start a contest where we mail the next five people who call in with feedback a dollar bill. Is that going to win him over? I don't know. Do you want to get a dollar?
I was going to say, is it a sweaty dollar bill out of your pants? Because you could probably get some guys with that one. In Japan. We will make sure. That in Japan, we don't want to get a sweat.
If you guys want that contest, let me know, because we might be able to set that up. We might even be able to sell those dollars. We could probably get your favorite. You know, if Joanie wants to get in on this action. I'm sure Misty will be up for it, as long as she gets some sort of cut out of this deal.
I don't see how we're getting money, but whatever. We'll figure something out. Send us your dollar. We'll make it sweat. There you go.
Maybe that's the way to do it. I'll draw a picture on it, sign it, or something. We want feedback with a buck, and then we'll send it back to you. In a special, special way. Special panty pouch.
We might have to charge for the panty pouch. Well, not if they're like, we need to get rid of them. Maybe we can. Where are you getting these panty pouches? Roger's going through all dirty laundry.
Yes, this is gold. Baby, this is gold. It's like it's been buckshot. Yeah. You're not going to wear these anymore, sweetheart, are you?
No. Did the moths get into this? Yeah, right? We just need to get movie meltdown thongs made up. Classy as ever.
Look like somebody melted down in them. And then... Then you can pick your favorite person to wear. I'm going to send you one. While we're recording the show, you can wear it.
It's going to be you, Brian. It's going to be Greg. You know it is. That's why I didn't say pick your favorite girl. I'm out of a job.
That's true. Greg's looking for money, so if you've got ways for him to shake his money maker. We'll have Joni wear, like, you know, bra and panties and sing it for you or something. According to Roger, that can be arranged. We haven't heard it from her.
I mean, I'll ask. But it's for sure. Or not, he'll... You better do what I say. This might get me into trouble later on.
I'm doing the laundry for now. I'm going to take some pics. Some pics, babe. Please put these on. Hold up this sign that says, thank you, John.
And movie meltdown rocks right across your stomach. Thanks. Oh, God. Why is this? Don't ask any questions, honey.
Don't you worry. Baby, when you talk, I can't send you a picture. You're messing up the picture. Oh, God. And this video I'm taking.
Anyway. Before I get in trouble, yes, let's move on. Now, why'd you turn the air conditioning off? We have to have it hot for you to sweat. Gotta be sweaty in here.
Or opposite, turn it on. It's gonna be hard. My glass. That's for the videos. The man paid his dollar.
Look, you're gonna give him his dollar's worth, damn it. Yeah. Or whatever currency from the country you live in. There you go. Exactly.
Do they still make rubles? I want some rubles. Rubies? Yen? Yes.
Send us whatever euro monies. Crazy Asian monies. Whatever country you come from, please. Send us your money and we'll send it back to you. Look how desperate we are.
I mean, we're trying to do everything we can for you people. Actually, we're just coming up with more ridiculous things we can do. We're true geeks. We really need some kind of feedback. We really do.
We need something to occupy our time. You're not alone. We need to be validated. Yes. Please validate us.
Validate us. Please. You love us, right? Because if we found out no one was listening, somebody might kill themselves. Yeah, right?
I'm not saying who. But anyway. Alrighty then. So there's your task at hand. Your challenge, if you will.
Keep someone out of the hospital. That's what your task is. And get sweaty money in return. I mean, what more? There's no downside there.
This is so true. So true. Don't be shy. We'd like to hear from you. So give us a call at 502-365-5565.
Or you can email us at geeksatmoviemeltdown.com. And just stop by the website for our frequent updates. That's moviemeltdown.com. On by, on by. On by, on by.

Okay, kids, get out your decoder pens. It is time. time for the movie meltdown secret circle where we'll have the next two movies that don't match the last time we told. You cool we're changing it up again on the fly. Because we can we love you no not really but i'm trying to well i mean just in general. If you're pissed off at us give us some feedback well we're trying to.
Give you heads up so that you can go out and watch the movie basically when we push it back we just give you more time to track down the freaking movies what do you want So, and this one was because I noticed, you know, we haven't been to the theater in a while, and we were like, hey, we need to go see a movie in the theater, as we said earlier in this episode. So I was thinking, hey, we got several movies coming up in the theater that we need to see. Definitely. Well, the first of which is next week. Next week is Machete.
Machete. Holy shit. It came out as just a funny-looking, we would like to see that as a real movie trailer at the beginning of RuneHouse. And now it is a real trailer. A real movie that actually makes that trailer look like a joke.
Yeah. That it was. A stupid child's play. It's nothing compared to the now real trailer for the actual movie, so. I just hope I'm not disappointed.
Yeah. I think it's going to be a train wreck, but an enjoyable one. Yeah, just based on the trailer, I'm like, how? Because at least they did it right. Like, if you watch that one.
Red Band trailer, there's no second guessing what kind of movie this is. Right. They did not mess it up like Piranha did. It's like, they at least realized, this is Grindhouse, this is what we're doing, let's make sure people know what we're doing. So.
Yeah, you kind of get the idea, especially with the red band trailer. Gatling guns on the front of your motorcycle. As it's flying through the air out of an explosion. Subtle? Once again, no.
This is my life at least three out of seven days a week. That's true. We had to put her out when she got here. She was still slightly on fire as she came in the door. Stop, jack and roll.
Stop, jack and roll. All right, so the following week, we realize once again, is another movie we've been talking about for quite a while. I don't know that anybody else cares, but we all seem to be on board for Resident Evil. And what is this one? Afterlife.
Afterlife. Mostly it's in 3D. Wesker is going to be in it. Chris Redfield. We need to go see Mila in 3D.
Mila. Jovovich. Jovovich, according to her. I always thought it was Jovovich. Until she said it.
Crazy Jovovich girl. There's silent things going on in there. All right so that's the next two and i promise you we will get to night of the creeps that's the one we've pitched a couple times now and it is already you know in the works we've got the interview lined up so you know we've got the interview already done. Like i said more time for you all to watch. For you to go watch it again re-watch it watch it for the first time it's excellent whatever you need to do it's an awesome movie so this shit out of me first check it out All right.
As far as music, I think we should go out with the big namesake of this movie. I don't think there's anything more excess and appropriate than the Apple. Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next week. Same geek time, same geek feed.
