Except I'm not. We normally, we do the movie threat now, but I'm. Not at home. I don't even have my list of movies that I've seen lately that I've seen out in the world and went, what the hell is this? And let's see.
Technically, I think I did just come across some things. I think they were possibly potentially good options, but that'll work in a pinch. Hey. Yeah. We're flying around the world.
Jet set and doing these episodes now. So let's see. What have I run across lately that I can threaten us with? Let's see. Because I specifically, there were ones that I wasn't that familiar with, which is always weird to me.
It's like, I've seen a lot of dumb movies and even the ones I haven't seen, I know of them. But then I come across other ones. I'm like, have I seen this video box before? Is this a thing I know of? So, let's see.
The Stay Awake. The Stay Awake. I ran across a VHS copy of The Stay Awake. There's the words. It does say The Stay Awake.
Does that look familiar, though? I've seen a million video boxes. I don't remember seeing it. That's why I was like, wait, what? No, I just meant the big letters.
The hell is The Stay Awake? It does not look like an extremely original thing. Piece of artwork let's see according to this an executed murderer is reincarnated as a satanic demon sworn to all right we're. Already in right yeah yeah all right so there you go i'm. Getting a different description if.
You come up with a better option we can watch something else but uh norah's back look the stay awake have you ever heard of such a. Thing the stay awake Is. That different than like a sleepover? Sleepover! The synopsis I'm getting is the ghost of a serial killer executed for murdering students at a Catholic girls' school returns to the school to take revenge on the current student body.
Alright, I don't know if that's a threat. We kind of want to watch that. So that's an even... That's kind of similar to this movie. That's a different way to go about it.
If you want us to watch that, hey, join the Meltdown Horror Club and then give us that movie. Because we'd also kind of like to watch it. It might fall apart and blow up in our faces. But, you know, right now it's sounding pretty good. Found a third description.
Uh-oh. Students at St. Mary's School for Girls find their fundraising stunt jeopardized by the appearance of a demon. Wait, it's a fundraiser? Never mind, then.
That's important. So, if you give us something better to watch, then we won't have to have weird comments like we had on this episode. It's Stay Awake based on a true story. It went away. Where'd it go?
The true story of the ghost of the serial killer returns with a Catholic Girls School fundraiser. Maybe this is a different thing. Oh, that's stay awake, not these days. But, yep, otherwise we'll say a lot of crazy things like we did this previous time. I'm currently laying horizontal on my couch while Brian and Phillip sit near me like the family members of an infirm elderly person.
And here's the best part. That sounds dreadful. Here's the best part. I don't know that it does anything, but I'm compelled to put it on anyway sometimes. I think it's just a little masochistic thing, really.
I'm just like, well, this is gonna hurt. So that's something. It's science, really. I don't think the deity's doing anything up there. I love that you pointed to the cat when you said science.
I know, I was like, science cat. When everyone knows that that's witchcraft. I'll take it anyway. At some point, maybe I'll go for Grunkle, but, you know. Yeah, I would love to be a Grunkle.
Grunkle's pretty awesome too. And it was fucking scary. It was really creepy. It was about a woman who, it's done in found footage, but like current and then like six years ago. So six years ago, she was part of like a kind of a ghost hunting team with her boyfriend.
Which is what you're shooting for. Yeah. I'm assuming. And then they disrupted some secret cult ritual. But that's definitely an interesting performance.
And one he's kind of just settled into now. Because he started off as a dorky kid in every role. And then he sort of graduated up into awkward, not really a leading man, but kind of like a half of a leading man. And now he's just become kind of a creepy bastard. But still presented in this very...
Look, all shucks, I'm a likable guy, except I'm kind of not like most horrible guys. He's one of your likable smarmy guys. Yeah. Knowing that he's like one of the creepiest bastards in horror movies as of recent years, it's like, yeah. They're kind of playing with that and using that against you as the audience member, and I appreciate that.
I think that's pretty cool. Oh, it's so good. Yeah, yeah. I'm like, who is their licensing board? Who are overseeing agencies?
That's the other thing is re-watching it because I'm watching it going, I remember having these nitpicky thoughts last time I watched it and I feel like, did we already do this? Because I was like, I had a lot of thoughts last time and I'm still having them watching it this time. No. I feel like it was trying to make some kind of social commentary on the whole deinstitutionalization. In the 80s.
I think it was because this was going on during the Reagan administration where they were just shutting down mental hospitals and throwing people out on the street. I don't know how hospital administration, when it comes to checking in and checking out patients, works. I don't know. I don't do that for a living. I'm not qualified to do that for a living.
Would you like to? And I'm pretty sure that weird creepy pervy orderly isn't either. But in the beginning they kept selling him as the creepy bastard because they would just turn around and look at him and he would just laugh to himself like an evil overlord. Well, the way he just stared at her through the window. I was like, they were selling him as the real creep at the beginning and then we got to the other guy and we're like, oh no, this guy, I think he wins.
So it was. We weren't just speculating. Obviously, that's what you guys wrote. And then it fell apart and you just didn't bother to readjust your trailer voiceover? Maybe they just recorded the audio for that before they even sent it.
Maybe so. I don't know. They're like, we spent $ 400 on that, guys. We gotta use it. But I mean, you know, they were gonna do it.
So they were asking for it. Yeah, they told me to come in. Boobs. So you're getting ready to get it on. And you both kind of know that.
You're a couple. You know what's about to go down. So you change your shirt. You change your t-shirt into another t-shirt. If you just took it off in preparation...
That would make sense. Then, okay, go for it. But it was another t-shirt of equal non-sexiness. Yeah. Or, you know, it's a fine look she was going for, but I was just like.
But why put it back on? You know what you're going to do in just a minute here. We're all aware of what you're about to do, so why put a shirt back on? Now, this is one of the ones I have a reason. Would you like me to tell you why?
Was it because of the sorority? It's maybe the most adorable reason for nudity. Because obviously this was very essential nudity to the plot. Clearly. This was essential to the character and the story.
They were really pressed to find girls to take their top off is what I found out in the behind the scenes. You didn't? I wouldn't think it would be that hard in Hollywood at that point in time. In the early 80s, yeah. You would think that would be...
Nope. It was a fight from what it seems like. I mean, at least that guy was old enough to have gotten his license before he got put away. Unlike Michael, who is like a child and there's no excuse for him to know how to drive a car. But he does pretty good, actually.
You know, that reminds me, though, of Halloween because we are specifically talking about it. But the scene in Halloween... where Michael Myers is driving down the street, perving out on all the different kids. Like you do. Yeah, because she, somebody even says, well, how do you learn how to drive? And I always just thought for years that, well, maybe he's just, let's just say he just figured it out.
But he's cruising down the street so smoothly. There's no like him, like using like the wrong foot on the brake and like jerking forward. But that would have been very good. Thank God it wasn't a stick. Trying to out of nowhere learn how to drive a stick.
3D effect. So how do you feel about the 3D? Yeah, then she lied. Didn't know how to skateboard at all. That's not college age level skateboarding.
That's like four year old level skateboarding. You're a girl type person. I'm assuming someone in your circle is always wearing workout gear. I love this outfit. At any given moment, she's got some sort of workout outfit on.
Because that's what people do. It's the 80s, man. Aerobics and shit. Ad leisure is back in. So there you go.
Lululemon and such. You know, psychos have snuck into this house to kill people before. What are the odds it's going to happen again? Come on in. Maybe this isn't the right line of work for you, Mr.
Collins. They were so okay with it, which makes me think it happens daily. Yeah, I know. I'm like, you should tell somebody. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
What was going on in that ward? Yeah. The Walking Dead ward? Why were they in body bags and moving around? It's Ward L.
Duh. Different colored tubes of liquid. How many freaking wards does this hospital have? I was like, are there 26 wards in here? Ward L, you've got to have special clearance.
They don't let just anybody wander around. But apparently they do. So I guess at this point, we get to the introduction of the other thing that is maybe the biggest, wait a minute, what the hell is going on aspect of this movie? Which this continues for the entire rest of the movie. Because it's at that point, more.
Or less, that she. So you'd think with her, we would. At least invest a little time. I think what little development they gave her just completely tired out the screenwriter. He's like, oh, that's hard work, you guys.
Let's just put chicks' heads in vices and just call it a day. How about we just pressure blast one? That'll be fun. Yeah. Speaking of offenses, let's talk about the sheriff.
Yes. What an odd bit of casting. Well, no, because we're now at another topless scene. So, put a pin in it. Here we go.
Uh-oh. Again, they want to tease him. So, they're going around to all the girls there going, so, will you take your job off? And every one of them went, no. So, every girl in that scene called him no.
So, they needed somebody to make this. Did they wait until the day of filming to ask these girls that? I think so. They're not. Oh, no.
They probably shot for like a day and a half. What do you want? So. Once again, way harder to get random girls to get naked in your horror movie than you would expect. And I love how non-essential all of the boob scenes are.
They're very short. They're not important at all. And they have to get shot in their naked area with a nail gun. This is essential to the plot. But if you don't want us to say that kind of nonsense and you want us to say things about The Stay Awake or Us Stay Awake, or Just Stay Awake, any of those, just go to MovieMeltdown.com, join the Meltdown Horror Club, and give us something good to watch.
Or if you hate us, give us something terrible to watch. Either way, we're going to watch it. We have nothing else to do. It seems to be the case. Hey, hey, gotta stay away As your mind is peeled away But this just seems to Find you anyway
