We haven't done this in forever we're back sort of and we have to tell people that we're back and we're we're gonna threaten them with movies We haven't done that in a long time. That's true. I know. I forgot how to do it. I forgot how to watch movies.
I have gotten out of practice lately. This time around, we're doing a movie that's got a girl's name in it. It starts with an A. So while I was looking through this other garbage I'd seen recently, I was like, how about Anna? Or Ann.
I think it's just E. A-N-N-E is how she's spelling it. And, um, yeah. Here's the plot, according to the back of this box. A mentally ill woman with a severe personality disorder develops a strange relationship with her dolls as she grows further apart from her son and family, and sickness rapidly advances.
She becomes a victim to insomnia and even self-mutilation, leaving her son to uncover that strange truth behind Anne's illness. That's fun. Is that a movie we want to watch or the one we were supposed to watch? Well, that's the thing that also worked a doll in. I was like, this does have some tie-ins here.
It's a girl's name. It's got a doll involved. So, yeah, I mean, you know. Okay, I was confused. Did this come out before or after Annabelle?
It's 2018, I think. I put the year down in case we had this question. So, I believe it is 2018. And I read the cast list and I don't know a one of them. That's promising, I'm sure.
So we could end up watching that if somebody doesn't give us a better option. But, you know, you guys, you're listening right now. You can think of many movies that are better than that, right? Or even worse, if you want to watch us squirm. Yeah, we have.
We have. So, if you want to give us either of those options, go to movieoutdown.com, click on the Patreon link, and sign us a movie. If you sign up at any level, you can put a movie on the list, and then at some point we will get to it and watch it. Be thrilled? We'll have stuff to say.
Yeah, yeah. But, yep, otherwise we'll say a lot of crazy things like we did this previous time. A lot of nuns in that movie, though. There's a lot of nun movies. Two things in movies.
That frighten me more than anything else. Spooky kids and nuns. And they keep making both of those movies. Well, there were both of them in this movie. Are there giant ants involved?
No. Damn it. Not interested. It's all downhill from here, then. Yeah.
I counted at least six buildings that would qualify for Scooby-Doo-esque hauntings. Yeah, there was one right in view. And most of the time we were sitting at the table, we were like, there's got to be something spooky going on in there. Yeah, but we didn't want to go check it out because we don't want to be rude and leave your wedding. And then the next thing we know, we see...
It's a little more Lon Chaney makeup on him. Or occasionally you're a Pekingese, you know, whichever. Right. Like so much of this movie is not a whodunit because we, in our minds, think we know exactly who did it. It sets it up with not only the brutal murder of a child right at the beginning.
A very brutal murder. But then also. You don't see that. On screen at all. Yeah.
That's why I was like, that first time I watched it, I was like, whoa. In the 50s. You said that in a very weird way. When it's like. Phillip has a new nickname at least.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because it has. Well, it has. On the place card, which I kept, it has my name. I have mine.
And then underneath it, it had. As long as Dick Miller shows up, I'm fine. Yeah. That's the biggest surprise. Do you know anything about the actress that plays the sister?
The older sister? I looked her up because she's really... She's very interesting looking in her own way. And just the way she kind of carried herself was weird. But yeah, I saw.
And she tried to kill us because she said it off in the woods. Oh, yeah. As we're coming back, it's dark. It's woodsy. Off in the corner, I'm like, is that a guy in a hockey mask?
It could be. I think she was trying to get us killed. I'm just saying. Because so many of the settings were.... Very memorable like the warehouses and even their apartment buildings in the like priest house you're just there's a lot of hallways there's a lot of stairs it's very like they're these big houses but it's very cramped and like narrow.
They spend so much time like not going into what's going on because it's it's vampires i mean from the cover of the box if you're in your video store you're like oh vampires So like, you know, it's not, they're not hiding it in the way that they're presenting the movie, but in the way they're showing it to you on screen, it's like, nobody got that memo. So forever, it's like, you kind of know this guy gets sucked into this little group of vampires. And then it's like, they won't just tell him, like, just tell him the rules. Like we know, like we've seen vampire movies. Just, you know, for the sake of honesty, I decided to light one outside.
And as I, you know, let, ran it down the striking pad, the head of it broke off, and flew into one of the bushes in front of my apartment building. Now, I stuck around to make sure it didn't burst into flames. That's not how I did it when this happened to me, but I was just like, I'm out of here. So he'd always be like, I want to shoot it like this. And they'd be like, no, you can't do that.
We've got to put the camera here. And he's like, that guy. This was his thing. This is how he's like, every time he told this story, he's like, so this is what he did. He would dress up like a priest and go and hang out at...
Interesting. That is very interesting. Because there's so much Catholics. It's very Catholic. Oh, it's very Catholic.
It's very Catholic. Yeah. I knew there had to be something. I knew he had to have something. One, he wanted to.
Why is everyone in this movie so weird? Like every single character has something weird going on. They really are. And I think a lot of it was just who they were as people. Harry has problems with performing in bed and goes to see a doctor.
The doctor sends him to a guru. None of these things should have worked the way that they did. No. And that scene where they're in the hospital and they're just screaming at each other. That was insane.
There are other people in the room. Because she's just looking off. Like, she won't even look at her anymore. She's just staring in the space crying. And her sister's screaming at her.
And that poor woman sitting over there trying to eat Jell-O. I know. Shit, I should have paid for the private room. I'm trying to take a nap. Like, can you take this out in the hallway?
Just didn't have an extra $ 45 to bump myself up to the private room. Like, no budget. And like, he's just like, well, I don't care. I want to put in rain scenes. Like, that's part of what I'm making out of this whole little world.
And yeah, so they don't have rain machines. They're poor. You know what they did? And I think it was the last day they were shooting in that chapel. And she walks out with a knife.
She's one of those that, like, her whole life was a story. Oh, I know. He's just like, he said, like, at one point she's like, I've gained and lost fortunes at least seven times. Wow. That, like, she'd been a movie star.
She made a fortune. Yeah, that was her in the 30s. Oh. And then, yeah, it's like she made a fortune. And then, like, again, she was at some point an alcoholic, lost it all to drinking.
At some point probably married some dude, stole all her money. Like every decade a new thing would come along and wipe her out. And she just kept performing. So maybe she's not of this earth. She kind of seems a little alien.
She could have disappeared into another dimension of some sort. Yeah. It was just interesting. I was like, what are we saying about religion here? Are we saying that it's bad inherently or are we condemning the people who use it to do bad things?
I don't know. I do know his feelings. Okay, what are his feelings? So here's the thing. I mean, we thought it was going to be really bad.
I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. I was creeped out the whole time. Yeah. Just go to MovieMeltdown.com, join the Meltdown Horror Club, and give us something good to watch.
Or if you hate us, give us something terrible to watch. Either way, we're going to watch it. We have nothing else to do. Music
