Weird. Hello everyone, and welcome to yet another episode of Campfire Stories. Here at Scary Stories, we tell, I am one of your hosts, Christashio, and I am joined on this Campfire story by one of the other hosts of this show, but in the hot seat on this episode, your friend and mine, Emma. Hello, I am here. Emma Sea is very good and yeah, Emma brings that good energy every episode.
A seat is very hot. I hope. I'm so happy to be here, positively ecstatic to be here. Emma. It's been you know, we talk all the time, obviously you and I do, but we have not done one of these in a couple of months, almost a year.
I think, yeah, yeah, it's been a minute before, I h since I've given my life spiel. Well, I mean, I guess we've done the manifestation thing. Yeah, which is which is a decent part of that, like adjacency, kind of a little adjacent to what's going on. I would say that was that's probably a more serious version of this. That's fair.
So before we talk about kind of what you've been up to, if you have listened to this show before, you would have heard Emma on Emma's episodes that Emma did on her old show. And so I want to ask you kind of your show. I know we always ask, but your show is probably not, is it. It's done right? Yeah, you know, we we were really thinking that it might pick back up if we ever had something to share, something to add.
But you know, are there seems pretty done with the process, which is fair. And you know, I'm happy with where we left it. Yeah, and you're here here now, and I'm here now, and that's what matters. We poached you away from your own show and I don't even have to edit. It's great, honestly, God, you got the good end of the bargaining.
Oh I know, I show up to talk and leave, Like I get to show up here myself talk and then leave. It's awesome. And you never have to hear yourself talk again unless you listen to the episode. So very true. Yeah.
Yeah, I can't tell you how many hours of my own voice I've listened to this point. I've become dull and numb to it. Yeah. If you ever anybody in the audience, if you hate your own voice, and like you hear your own voice and a recording and they're like, no, I can't sound like that. Like, just start a podcast, you'll get to sensitized real quickly.
Yeah, you'll forget what you sound like very quickly, and you'll focus more on just the sounds that you make. So yeah, it's I'm glad you're part of this show. I've said that to you before, but I'll say it in recorded form, so that amy my goodness. Yeah, mark a note he said it in recordings, they'll fall too accountable from now. Just I fucking hated working with her, But speaking of your show, I wanted to kind of transition into what you have been up to as of late because it technically has to do with your show in a way.
Yeah. So most recently I spent a little over a week up in Massachusetts with my prior co host Arthur, and we did do a good couple of fall activities, specifically obviously, I mean, it's not October without at least one haunted attraction or spooky activity of sorts. I agree, But you're a fan of haunted houses, that's the thing is Okay. I am in between this, Like I don't get scared easy, but I also scare easy. I don't know how to put it.
I'm very easy to startle. I'm the same way. I get it, and like I get what you're getting at. I'm easy to startle, but I'm hard to scare. But if you scare me, you really got Yeah, Like I can feel unsettled.
It's not like I could walk through something and be completely unbothered. But it's just like, in order to go through a haunted house and actually be scared by, like, you really have to put yourself in the mindset of like it being real and legit, which is hard for me to do at this point. I feel like that's a big part of it, is that you have to be able to like, you know, suspension of disbelief. Uh, that's fair, and I think that's what a lot of adults probably struggle with. But yeah, when somebody like sneaks up on me, I don't scream, I jeb, but I don't scream.
It takes a lot to get me to scream. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I'm the same. Yeah. I mean I kind of have like a hoof like that's my kind of like if Kate startles me, but yeah, I don't know.
I startle easily, but I don't scare easily. Yeah, So I honestly I've been wanting to find like a horror movie that I actually find like genuinely scary. I watched a good couple in college that were like creepy, creepy vibes, a little on the scary side, but nothing that chilled me. Nothing that like I turned off the movie and I struggled falling asleep, you know. And like in this season, like it's not fun if you're not scared like at least once, Like you gotta be scared at least once.
I agree with you so. And also it's way more fun to be scared in a social setting than alone, Like I yeah, I love I love the the post fear, you know, like the scream that is followed by the laughter of friends. I think is is really That's what I love about going to like warlike haunted or uh you know, like the Haunted hay Rides and the Haunted house and like all of that is especially like going with friends or going with you know, your significant other. It's if you are able to get that reaction, like it's always followed with laughter, like every single time, because it's so fun and you get those endorphins going, like I'm not a thrill seeker like I emotions. I am a fine ladies and gentlemen.
I will tell you not a I I take dram of me. I believe you not doubting it. I'm not doubting it at all. I'm definitely one of those people that gets motion sick and hates feeling nauseous. So I don't, you know, go on those types of like rides, Like I wish that I could go on a roller coaster and only be a friend of you know what if it, you know, crashes and we all die like Final Destination styled.
I wish that was my biggest fear going on a roller coaster. No, my biggest fear is if I come off, how absolutely fucked am I for the rest of the day because of how nauseous you are? Oh yeah, when I'm nauseous, everything else shuts. I mean, you could take some drama mean and go on a roller coaster. I was in Disney over the summer, which I don't recommend, and I was kind of forced into it because of COVID.
I didn't want to go, and then my family was like, well, we're going to Disney, and you have to come because we're all going to be in Florida anyway, because they're going to your grandma's second funeral. I don't feel like explaining that. Uh. I told you that I went to Disney, though, and I told you that I caught COVID because of Disney wouldn't recommend the mouse. The mouse gave it to you.
He came up and said yeah and coughed in my face. Yeah. Great, there was no mass could no mask. Mickey, Mickey, you got COVID. Now, Like, fuck off, what is this?
I didn't expect to get this kind of treatment at the House of the Mouse. My point making bringing up being at Disney is that they have this new Ratitu Me ride, which is really cool. I didn't know that it would trigger my motion sickness because it's not a roller coaster, so it's a it's the way that they do it is actually really cool. It's like a magnetized track under the floor. Yeah yeah, yeah yeah.
And uh so you're like sitting in like uh you know, like one of those like seat car of things that it's like it looks like a rat that's like the whole point, and you wear like glasses and then you're like put in front of these like three d screens that like make it seem like you're the size of a rat stumbling through this very hectic kitchen. And it was really really cool and I loved how they did it, and it made me motion sick, and I because it wasn't it was not a difficult ride. If I closed my eyes and it was just the feeling of the ride, I would have been fine. It was the movement paired with the visuals. And I had I wish I said, driven me that morning, I would have enjoyed it more.
At one point, I had to close my eyes because I knew if I kept them open, I was going to feel horrible for the rest of the day. So yeah, not a thrill seeker. I get motions very easy. I can't read in the car. I lestai if I'm you know, driving, and then in that case, you don't want to read in the car if you're driving, I mean, like I want to read the signs.
Yeah, it was like you can read what well, Like I have my my GPS on like the center console, okay, and like I'll be like scrolling through my my music list, like what are you reading in the But literally it was like a twenty minute car ride. This past Sunday, Jan and I went to celebrate our anniversary. Uh, it's our our third year. So we went to like and we were driving to a nice dinner and he wanted me to look up the place and call them, let it, let them know that we were like five minutes late, just to make sure that they, you know, kept our table. And in the process of me just googling this restaurant, I got sick, Like I felt horrible and I I, oh, no, like yeah, So as much as I wouldn't be a thrill seeker, I my stomach says, bitch, no, you won't.
Yeah, And I and I hate I mean, everybody like doesn't love being nauseous, but there, but I feel like a lot of people tolerate it. You know, think all the people that you know have hangovers and they puke and it's like it's it wasn't fun, but it's done. Like I don't drink because of that race, but yeah, that's fair. I just so, yeah, you know, I because I can't get that thrill, that endorphin rush from like a ride. I'm trying to find that through horror, through you know, these types of attractions.
Uh. And eventually I want to start, you know, like getting back into like the scary movie binge. Apparently Smile is supposed to be good. I've heard friend of the friend of the podcast frequent guest mister Josh Bragg apparently knows the woman who was doing all those those like random ads where she would just be like, I'm talking about it if he knows it. Oh, I think I just see his post about that he randomly works in his office and he's known her for like a decade.
Oh, that's that's cool. I've heard that's about Smile. Heard good things. I'll have to let you know if I wind up, because if I'm going to see it, I'd like to see it in theaters. But then again, when you're seeing it in theaters and then you hear everybody else and that also kind of takes you out of it and just wants to be at home watching horror.
I would I want to be in in a theater watching it because I feel like it gives you the right vibe. But at the same time, the people, but the people like some sometimes the people suck like we Yan and I went to watch this like really shitty horror movie recently called the invitation, and let me tell you the leading man squarest head I've ever seen. That's besides the point I'm telling a where is the head? I'm sorry, give me a moment. I sent a picture.
I said, I'm a picture of this man to my friend. The other am I making uh, Emma making approximations about the squareness of people? On me? This is not the squarest man you have ever seen. It's very proportional, saying it square like his cheeks are right angle.
He's he's supposed to be. Hey, I I don't understand attraction because you know when I'm like looking at somebody and finding them attract attractive because I'm Demi sexual. So I thought, sorry, you had to clarify Demi sexual. Of course, not because I am. I am secretly Demi Cavado, I secretly have what is it?
Does Demi Levado have the one that has sex with ghosts? Or is that Kesh? Yeah? Yeah, yeah great. That's why I want her on the show.
I mean, I would love to have Demi on which one Demi or Kesh either, if I'm had my choice, if they in a perfect world, if they were both emailing us and we could only imagine them emailing us right if they want to show, so we can only have one. I would pick Demi because she was more intrinsic to my childhood with Camp Rock and like Disney, and she's, in my opinion, more out there, and she seems more genuine about it. I feel like with Demi is Demi is clearly up Demi's own ass. Uh. I don't know, Like Demi just seems very Demi's too serious, and Kesha seems like a lot of fun.
But I think Kesha Kesha being fun also could be a problem because then you verge on like not taking it seriously right, And that's why, Like I want to pick Demi's brain about her sex with ghosts. I got it, I got it, I got it. I have to How does that work? Like I want to? I mean, I think we all know how it works.
It's just it's one truly. I think we know how it works. I just don't think we know how it summon them. How does it actualize? So one of the processes through which actualizations between you and the ghost Like, I don't know.
I'm not going to call it sex because that's not what it is. You can't have sex it's non corporeal. So or can you again, I guess if you're making some assumption, I guess if you're getting stuffed by a ghost of Abraham Lincoln, I guess I'm did she say Abraham? Please, I'm just getting railed by the ghost of Millard fillmore like what I have not to like, not to poke fun or anything, but like that for me, Like it's not like I'm making but we draw the line with stuff. It's weird, not even but it's not I'm not even laughing at her.
I just think the concept is silly, well like and to say it with the straight face, be like I ghosts like, I mean, hey, what if she really do fucking ghost what if? I mean it's a big what if? But what what what if? Like go on, one girl, fucking queen? What ghost pussy?
Like? I don't ghost dick like, I just I don't under because because Demi is by or Pan or something like that, I'm assuming. So yeah, so I'm I'm just gonna go on on the limit and why like this Demi Levana's sexuality before I move forward on whether or not she fucks male or female ghosts. She is apparently, according to today dot Com. Back in March of twenty twenty one, Demi Labado says she's pan sexual.
Okay, so yeah, so ghosts are covered under that. Yeah, or I guess is there like a term? It's like paras sexual. I think there is a term, because Kesha always mentions it at the beginning of her show. She's like, I'm a parasexual.
It's like like whatever, like like love the Kesha. I'm pressure, No, it's not Kesha at all. Can I get Can I get it one more time? Parasexual? I don't know if that's that's not Kasha.
Kesha has a very Kasha has a huskier voice than I do. Like, Kesha's got a great voice. I'm not going to attempt to imitate the one and only Kesha, please. That's not selly. But it's funny you have two female artists making similar content, both coming at it from the same direction.
Right. It's kind of weird, like not a bad way, but just like a what's that interesting coincidence? Yeah? But then it makes you wonder how many other people are getting breamed by ghosts. I'm just saying we only know about them because they're celebrities.
I don't think Demi is saying she's getting reamed. I don't have you asked her? No, I'm saying we need to get her on the shop. So Debbie, tell me more about getting reamed in the ask by ghosts? No?
No, The question is, Demi, would you consider your interactions with ghosts as quote getting reamed? Emma wants to know getting getting reamed is not something I ever thought I would hear you say, Well, here we are. This is me on on one cup of caffeine black tea, the healthiest caffeine I can think of. Can you imagine what Emma would be like two some see the cook Could you imagine what I'd be like? What I'd be like on actual like coffee?
Oh my god, No, you would be You would be trying harder to get hold of keshould ask if she's been reamed by ghosts? No, Demi's been. Are you getting real? Look? And the other thing about it is, you know what's funny?
I feel like we're kind of in like a post celebrity like scene, as like, because anybody can be a celebrity, that's right, but also like anymore like celebrities don't have to keep this like this, like perfect image anymore. That's true, you know, like they can be weirdos, like they can be like, oh, I'm into ghosts and shit. Like remember when Harrison Ford said in the nineties he was into ghosts and Meg Ryan was talking about how much they love Bigfoot. No, no, that never happened. I was I was not even a fetus throughout most of the nineties, So no, I don't remember that.
Oh sorry, that's fair. But also it didn't happen because there was this perception of people who were like in the industry, you were like, we're not going to talk about our personal beliefs in our personal lives because it will alienate us from people. And then you have people saying like, nah, fuck it, I want to be true to myself, which I appreciate. I'm here for it. I just you know, there are better people making better content on the internet that is exactly what they're making, that are doing a ten times better job, like our friends over at charm City Paranormal, like so many other people on YouTube making good paranormal and supernatural content that aren't Kesha and Demi Lovado, Like that's the that's the whole draw is who they are not not what they're doing and what they're doing, what they're doing should be the draw, right, But there is something delightful about the star of camp Rock one and two.
Talking years later about this specifically, there's something so delightful to me that it just it lights up my younger self. Like imagine, I just imagine having a conversation with like fourteen year old Emma. It's like, you know that you know that awesome girl that sings. This is real, this is me. I'm exactly where I was supposed to be.
Yeah, in like a decade, you're going to see some really really interesting shit for me getting like getting reamed by ghosts. This is real, so so sweet, I'm getting ream y'all. I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be reamed, sitting on the ghost dongs and the other thing I think about Jonas could never Wow, it's a kid. I don't remember. I thought it was all of them at one point.
Jojo Jo Jo Jojo. There's Joe Kevin and another one that Nick, Joe Nick Joy it was Nick. Maybe it was Nick. Which one's a sexy one. I don't know.
You're asking the demi sexual because you only like Demi Levado. Yeah, I'm Demmy sexual. The call I can think. It's all gonna think now when you say it is Demi Lovato getting reamed by ghosts, You're welcome a great I'll could see you on that in a month's safe. So what is Demi sexual?
So? What are what are some of the things you did with Arthur? Give me the give me the rundown of what was going on? What kind of spooky stuff do you like to do? Even you mentioned you do spooky stuff, but like you know what what it?
What is Amma like to do for spooky seas? I think we talked about this last year, right sure? I mean, like, okay, care. I think the way that I love embracing this season specifically, like many people, is watching the classic movies that aren't necessarily scary but very Halloween. A big one for me is The Scary Godmother Special.
Well, it's a very very near and dear place to my heart. You are making a face as if you've never heard of it, and that is okay. I will have to share you because it's difference is it is so like it is very much for kids, but it is so like it's wholesome. The animation is terrifying, just because it's so like until They had a low budget, but they did incredible things with it. I fucking loved that movie specifically, if you even consider it a movie, it's not even a full length I'll have to I'm pretty sure it's on YouTube.
Scary Godmother, incredible. It's that one's iconic to me. It's probably if I had to pick one to watch every year, it would be that. And I still I have to it this year. I haven't had a chance to sit down and watch it to really kick off the season.
But yeah, and that. I am a fiend for pumpkin carving. Oh I didn't show you the pumpkin medic card. I'm gonna send you a bit share of the pumpkin that I car I don't want to say every year I carved pumpkins, but I do it at least, you know, every other year. I think.
I think the past couple of years I've done it consistently. So I carved a pumpkin over it. Are there's and let me know when you got it. Yeah, it's very extra, way better than I would be able to do. It was.
I found this gorgeous like inspiration of this pumpkin carving that was like these like sprawling ginko leaves, and I was like, I've never done a pumpkin engraving before. I've always cut, you know, like the face or whatever. So this was my first time doing an engraving. I wish my pumpkin carving kit was sharper. We did order it for like a mere nine dollars on Amazon, so I had filled with the orange plastic handles that slipped off.
I actually have it right here because I've brought it home with me instead of living over there, because it's a good guy. It's actually like pretty nice. Interesting, this this scoop very effective. See, I'm I'll do you on better. At the pumpkin patch that's like near us, they were selling something that you put on a on a drill, like a like a power drill.
Yes, I've seen that. I've seen that. Yes, I have one of those. That thing that's the that is the absolute only way I car pumpkins anymore, because it makes it it takes like two seconds to get the pumpkin ready. So what it is For those of you that don't know what we're talking about, it's a long metal rod that you stick into the end of your drill and then you tighten it, and at the end of the rod is a I guess it looks like like a paintster.
Yeah, it's it's essentially like a little metal ball that has like blades around it, and it's hollow, and you stick it into the pumpkin and you run it around the outside and it rips all the goop shit off the wall and then you just take the pumpkin, turn upside down and mostly all of it falls out. And the best thing about it is, and you kind of shun this with the picture that you send of your engraved pumpkin, you can use it to make the walls thinner as well. Yeah, which is like the big reason you would buy it because what you did, though you can't see it because this is an audio not visual medium. Emma ingrained. Now Emma engraved the pumpkin, but the pumpkins walls are thin, so it's lit up, which is only which is only something you get if you really tear the walls the interior.
I scraped the shit out of it. My arm was sore. Yeah, it's worth it, say you bet, you wish you had that little Honestly, I feel like that kind of takes half the fun out of it. Like for me, it's so nostalgic, just like working for a while and clearing out and cleaning up a pumpkin. I don't know, there's something really like a foamy and comforting and nostalgic about that for me.
You say that, but you've never used the thing. If you use the thing, then you're ready to do the pumpkin carving part. Okay, So I think it's like this if you are only carving like a pumpkin, like you don't have like five when you're trying to do them all, like you're just just have the one and it's not even that big, because I mean the one that I got it was only like it was like a twelve inch diameter. It wasn't like a fifteen sixteen inch suit. It was like a medium.
It was a medium sized pumpkin. And but yeah, if you're just doing the one, I feel like, yeah, take your time. If you're doing like ten of them, then yeah, get a tool, because you will your arm will fall off. Conficiency though, come on, something to be said for a vision. Yeah, but that's like saying, at like Christmas time, you could buy a kit to make your own gingerbread house, or you could just buy a gingerbread house.
I say, as the Jew I would say it, I would say, it's more like, am I gonna make gingerbread from scratch? Am I gonna buy a like a pre baked thing to put together? I get It's just like it's just like a it's I mean, I get it. I actually get where you're coming from. It takes time out of the activity.
So it's like you want to set aside like a couple of hours to like do a fun activity, and but here's instead it's only forty minutes. Here's the part that I haven't mentioned though, Like I always pick something very complicated to carve, so I like to have more time to carve and less time to worry about how badly I'm going to fuck up the carving because I know, you know, like I always bite off way more than I can chew with carving pumpkins, which is not that big of a deal. I like a good challenge that I set for myself. But I mean, I get it, I get it. There is a nostalgic factor to cleaning out of pumpkin.
And yeah, it's funny though, because so Arthur carved one as well, and it was his first time in a while doing it, and he wanted to carve ponio from Studio Jibbli, which is not very scary to say the least, but it was for he wanted to carve it for a friend who like really loves ponio. And he struggled and he got pretty far and then he's find of swept it up and he was like, well, there's no going back. I can't salvage this. I'm gonna throw it away. I don't want to look at it anymore.
And I was like, oh, I'm sorry it didn't work out. But I was like, well, maybe instead of throwing it out, we could like leave it out for like something, you know, some wildlife did eat it, so it has like a purpose, you know. So it was like ten eleven at night. We it was like it was a very like rainy evening, so the rain had stopped with like everything was like gross and wete outside and cold and damp. So I put on you know, my Croc brand slides and I'm wearing basically pajamas and like a a sweatshirt thrown on top, and we go outside and we have to walk all the way because it's an apartment complex, so he has a perk behind his house, so we have to go like all the way to the park.
So we're just walking at like eleven, I pulding this pumpkin. And then the whole time we're like where should we put it? Where should we put it? And I said, I want to put it in the center of the baseball field, so that way we could see it from your window. And he goes, okay.
So I walked through all of this wet grass, getting get my feet all the way, get it like a fucking dirt ship. I'm just like, no, I have a mission, and so I put the pumpkin down. I took a picture to commemorate the pumpkin. I'll just hold that up for you, just sitting there. It's just sitting there in the center of this field.
And the next day it was gone without a trace, of course, but we saw people were like working, like doing like some roadwork or something, and we just knew, we just knew somebody had the audacity to take it and throw it away, and that broke my heart. They couldn't let the deer eat it. They couldn't let the squirrels neibble. They couldn't they couldn't just let me have that I wanted. This would have taken and smashed it.
I don't care if this. Yeah, they could have smashed it as well as they left it out for like, the whole point is that we were giving back to the wilderness. It was an offering, don't watch your pumpkin, I don't want your I was so disappointed when I woke up that next morning and it was not there. I was hoping that I would see it like, you know, partially eaten, or like maybe I would see some animals around it, like some birds around and that would have made me so happy, and this fucking apartment complex stole all of the joy. That more than anything, I like pumpkin carving, though I'm a fan of that, I do.
My mom requested that I carve a pumpkin that's actually scary and not pretty or like at least like has a scary face. She was like, can you just do one that's like scarier? And I'm like, are you paying for it? And she goes yeah, I'm like, all right, cool, I'll kind of scary your pumpkin for you, sure, Jesus. I think it's one of those things where I always, like I said, I always kind of bite off more than I can chew.
And then it gets to the point where you reach that moment where Arthur clearly understands now the point of you can either keep going and hope you don't fuck it up, or like you're just gonna need to stop because like you could fuck it up, and if you fuck it up, you're gonna want to throw it away. Why didn't Arthur just turn the pumpkin around? It wasn't like carbonable on the other side, I asked, why why not, like, oh, yeah, like you have all the space crick is to get a pumpkin with both sides carved otherwise, I mean that's always like, that's always your one fail safe. It's just jam the pieces back in and try on the other side. Nobody.
He was also just like frustrated and done just over the recess. Yeah, which is valid and understandable. I stayed carving for like another like half hour, just like fucking with it. I get it. I like a good pumpkin carving, I really do.
I do too. It was really fun, and I'm glad because I get to do it again. But on my mom's wallet, So that's fun. Five dollar pumpkin, Emma, my c Yeah, they had at the grocery store here a pumpkin so big it took up a cart and it was five dollars. It wasn't five dollars, her talent.
All pumpkins are five dollars. And the guy who returned us our bag, like, he ran the bag out of the store because we forgot it the cash register. He was like, I'm pretty sure that pumpkin's five bucks. And I was like, well, if all pumpkins are five dollars, then it was tandres and this one is, dude, do you want to buy it? And I was like no.
It was like a fifty fucking down pumpkin. I mean, it was so bish. What the fuck am I gonna do with it other than fit? Oh fucking oh, it's so big. He just needed a couple of candles.
Look, it's like it's like anything else. It got to the it got so big. No, you don't understand, Like, it wasn't like a big ass pumpkin. It was like a big ass pumpkin, like h like you know what I mean. It was like squat boy pumpkin, Like a big, old, fat, squat pumpkin that was just like sitting in a car.
If it had been like comically large pumpkin, you know, for a fat guy would have bought it. Okay, Well you didn't give me the visual. That's fair. I guess I should have described it was a big pumpkin, but not in the way that's fun or exciting. It's a big pumpkin in the it's a big alternative pumpkin.
It was. Yeah, it was big, and it was like big in the way where you'd want to like put it in front of your house and maybe have your two year old kids sit on top of it to take pictures. Oh, isn't that pumpkins? I mean, yeah, sure, but yeah, with all of your children, right, with your ten your Mormon family, with your ten kids all dressed up in like ging costumes, with the giant five dollars pumpkin you got from the grocery store, you'll be able to feed your family with when you're done taking pictures. Yeah, that one.
No, I'm but the guy was so gung holl about it. He's like, you should buy it, and I was like, no, no, maybe, I mean maybe. I mean my wife was kind of on board with the It was like we should buy it, and I was like, to do what with it? Where are we going to put it? What are we going to do?
Carv it? Yeah, I mean again, if it were a carbable pumpkin, I would totally carve it. But it's just one of those pumpkins where if you were to buy it, you wouldn't be buying it to carbon anyways, you know what I mean. Like if it were the same size, if it were the right size, it would You'll be like you could do a you can maybe do the kind of design you did where it's a design that wraps around, but like if you wanted to do anything kind of more tangular. That's the thing about pumpkin carving.
It's kind of it's like a skill. It's a skill in an art because like, finding the right pumpkin is like on half of the battle. I agree, I do agree. Patches near you? Is that a thing?
Oh? Of course, I'm in the middle of nowhere. Anything. Do you go to the pub patch? So Arthur and I did actually go to a local farm picked apples.
Oh, nice. So that's when we did up in Massachusetts. But there's a place very nearby that actually has a festival going on right now, like a mini festival. They have two or three carnival rides and like a petting zoo and a and a corn maze. Kind of did you pick?
We picked primarily gold and delicious. No, No, it was a honey cris so I really picked honey. Chris picked a couple of Courtlands to make a pie with, and I think we grabbed a couple of gala but those weren't as good with the honey crys. The honey crystal were best. Trying to think the ones that we got, I don't think they had any of those here, but I think it's obvious it's a different climate here.
We picked Jonah Golds and something else. It's like another name, but it's like a very small red apple, and I like didn't want to do anything with them other than eat them. It might have been a Courtland, it might be are they like this big? Like they're very small? Right?
Yeah, that's probably what it is. Maybe, but you know what the best apple is? What Chris, it's false false. If you think that's false, it's it's false because sour hurts my mouth. Okay, okay, I mean that's fair.
The only reason I like Granny Smith is because they're ours. You don't like sour, yeah, then Granny Smith is going to be like a big no yeah, I only okay, okay. You eat those red ones that everybody hates delicious. You know there's no no that that is a fucking lot perpetrated by Big Apple to try there's a sweet what they're sweet and they're crisp. That's all I wanted.
An apple red Delicious is neither red. Well it is red, and it's not delicious. So neither red. Oh it is not delicious. It's it's when I think of an apple, that's the apple I think of.
And that's why I didn't like apples for the longest time, is that was the only kind of apple I was ever given in any context. I if I bite into a Granny Smith, it will burn my tongue. That is how sensitive I am to sour. You know, those little mini like tangerines ceuties. I wanted to branch out with my with my fruit, I don't because I'm very hyper sensitive to sour.
I often don't branch out a lot with when it comes to fruit. So somebody told me like, oh, but you should try cuties. They're really sweet, and I was like, okay, sure, So I grab one and I bite into it, like all the cells like burst, hurt. It was painful, sounds so miserable. All the cell ME burst out because all the cells burst.
So now if you can't me acutie, the way that I will eat it is thus I nibble at it like a woodland creature because if I bite into it, it's too much all at once and it hurts, like I can't. I feel like such a baby when it comes to sour. I was, you know what, I'm just built different. Emma just goes around being adorable all the time, like eating food like a woodland animal. I'm not.
You guys like, yeah, we know. Thanks this other lesson lest in any my I got it. Neat squirml ship Are you trying at this part or is this just like is this a weird I was trying to give a visual for lovely woo. But I literally eat it like two hands and I nibble at it because you know, I eat your orange. You know that that with like the Southern that Southern twang that you just added.
There was very God that did that, that did something. God God ooh wook God that nobody has said that on this podcast upen to this fushing point. Oh it was gonna be me o woo. Yeah, okay, I mean I get I get it. What is your favorite kind of app honestly, like, the most consistent apple that I will use is so resolicious, amuse they are chris and sweet.
That's it. No, they don't wait, do you seriously don't think that they're sweet? I think for me, the sweetness of an apple is not the thing I look for in the apple that We're on too completely different playing field, and it's horrible to compare. But I think we can call you and me. We are not the same, and we are not I am still let's just speak and meme talk only.
I eat Graandy Smith because I like sour apples. You eat Red Delicious because you like them sweet. We are not the same. We are not the same. But I think we could both agree that Macintosh suck.
I've never had one. They are Red Delicious suck. Do you understand? No, hear me out, hear me out. Macintosh are squishy and grainy.
That doesn't sound pleasant. It's not that I've never had one. Well, then you better fucking try to get mad. Don't get one now. I just feel like you think about like when you think about Apple, like like apples and jet, like the Macintosh is the name of an Apple computer.
Like, they don't have the red Delicious computer. They don't have a Granny Smith computer. They're the Macintosh Apple computer. And it's just it's because they're not going to copyright the word red delicious. They can copyright Macintosh.
I guess. I just I don't know. I feel like maybe it's because they didn't want to name it after an Apple. That's not good. I mean, because it's true given what they named it afterways, I was like, wait, I was trying to give you a hard time about red Delicious, but pan out I get.
I mean, I don't, I don't know delicious are good? I mean, yeah, I don't. You don't have to like them. I just don't understand how. I just it's so one note.
Yeah, so one note. It's the one note that I like. That's fair. I mean, if it's gonna I mean, hey, if this instrumentally plays one note and better play it really well, sook. So I I am a red delicious enjoyer, but I have to emit honey crisp.
They do slap when I bake a pie. I tend to gravitate towards sweeter apples, and then everyone gets mad at me because I don't use Grady Smith the best. That's the best thing to make anything with Gray Smith? What are you doing? I prefer Gala apples, so most like in terms of baking, I prefer, But in order to appease people, I do like half Gala half Granny Smith, so at least it like balances it a little bit more.
You can also mix some motchoppols in your pie. I make a mean fudd pie. My pies are gorgeous. I should make a pie and send it to you in the man. I'll come over and be ran sid oh.
Yeah, and you know what. I like pie, But I think I like crumble more and like cobbler more. And I think it's only because what I really want is just like a big bowl of fruit cooked essentially to almost like cumpoth consistence, compod consistency with something like kind of crunchy on that has maybe a saltiness too. And then some ice cream, like that's what I want. And like, I know this is going to sound terrible, but like I have, I feel like making a pie is a lot of work for essentially the same thing that making a nine x thirteen crumble gets done in the same amount of time.
But the look at this bot, I know, but the crust doesn't do anything for me personally because I like the thrumbles topping. Look at that gorgeous time I made that. I mean it looks great. I'm not I mean that's I would eat shit. I would eat the shit out of that pie.
Yeah, you better. But the thing is like for me at the end of the day, it's gonna be kind of because the pie is not gonna hold its shape on the plate. Like it's just not when you get it out of there put it on a plate, it's essentially just a crumble with no no no, no, no no no. Oh. Okay.
If your pie is falling apart, I don't want to say that that makes it a bad pie because it doesn't because at the end of the day, what matters most is the taste. But not all pies do fall apart. If you have a thick enough well baked crust. Just I'm talking about the filling. The filling will stay.
The filling is how can the filling stay when it's just a bunch of apples put together? Because because the filling is thin? Okay, yeah, separate it was two or three c's. Yeah, I would say at least Okay, Apparently I haven't had the best apple pies in the world by you, which I need to erectify that. So send me one of them, randsoid.
I'm just saying I don't think it would last fourteen there. I mean they send pies, don't do? Are not duff that pie, pie pie whatever, pie people pie pie, Pi Pi pie, this American pie. I don't know that there's a pickle on gold belly. You can find all sorts of bullshit you can buy for very if you know what gold belly is, right, I don't gold.
So get this. So let's say New Jersey, right or New York. New York has great pizza, right, People love New York sole pizza. There are restaurants in New York that sell New York sou pizza. To live borrow so barrow not sub borrow s borrow barrow.
That said, the mall, hey, I'm just saying, fine, we're trying about good pizza. I don't know. It was the first one I thought of. It was either bad or just coming up with a random Italian man's name and putting up just Sepie's pizza, yeah, and then making it possessive. Yeah, Joe's Pizza.
That is pizza. I mean the Jacamo's pizza. I don't know. But but all of that aside go. What gold Belly does is say there's, you know, Joe's Pizza, well known pizza place in New York featured in the Spider Man movie.
You could order through gold Belly pizza from Joe's Pizza Rha and they'll send it to you for a nominal feet and gold Belly arranges all this. Yeah, but it's not going to be good. Well, it's like it's it's so well, it's what's funny is so like no, no, it's like a no no, hold hold on a second. Di's a point you have to understand, Like, to get it to you is almost as expensive as the thing that you're buying, because they over more. They overnight it to you, yeah, which is like crazy expensive.
And hear me, then they're gonna put dry ice and everything else. Like yeah, like I don't, I don't imagine it would be good. Yeah, I say, Chris, I bought a pizza. I'm gonna drive to your house and get you this pizza. I'll be there in fourteen hours.
Do you really want that pizza? Okay? If the pizza is not baked and I bake it at home, don't care. Okay, But but but that's all what you said. But but they do sell baked and unbaked pizzas to your Oh we will find then, but listen here.
But the point is, your point is a different one. If someone sends me an uncooked pizza that's frozen and I bake it, it's still not going to be as good as when they bake it because most of these places have like ninety thousand degree ovens or whatever the fuck it is where they can stick the pizza in for ninety seconds and it's done. My stupid ass has to go and preheat my conventional fucking oven to do. But it's a different issue, like why would you spend one hundred and fifty dollars if piza delivered to your house from New York City when you know it's not gonna be that good anyway. So long story short, I will make you a pie and I will cook it and I will do everything, and then i'll send it to you and it'll come and it'll be sad.
Yeah, this sad pie. But you can buy pie on gold Belly. That was the whole point of that. You can buy pies from pie. What very famous people who make pies are on gold Belly selling their super one hundred dollars apple pies or whatever insane shit that they're trying to pull.
Incredible. It's it's that expensive. I mean, we're talking about like well known regional brands selling their expensive stuff, and it's like, I don't want to buy your five hundred dollars brisket or rid of the fucking I mean, it's you know what I mean, Like when you're done and you want to order like a meal for a bunch of people and then ship it, it's like, I can't imagine it's going to be less than like exorbitant. Yeah, you've met two hundred and fifty dollars. Now you get free shipping, Like Jesus, I still mighty that ship at that point, Just make yourself a pie right, yeah, I buy yourself a brisket.
Right. Don't go to your local pizza store, you know, I like one of those. They have pizza, please one pizza Storey? Are you buying clothes at the pizza store? So that meme?
You don't know that meme? Dan? Never mind? Over your head, right over your head. It's fine.
Somebody listening will will validate me, not me even one time, one time out of the few that it's not me on this show because normally I'm up with what the kids are talking about these days. You never heard of the I'm buying clothes at the soup store beam? Nope, all right, I'll send that to you later. I'm an old man. I'm sorry I missed out on how hip you?
I forgot how hip you kids? Are? You? Hepcats? Excuse me?
What did you just call me? Is that a termt I literally have never heard that before, A GP like you're pretty hip man at the Titus. No, I don't think so. I'm just showing that I am not an old man. I promise.
Did you just call me a hepatitis riddled cat? So? Did you see a lot of hepcats when you were up and up visiting on No I had but incredible segue, right, you on a tour while you were there? Better? But uh yeah, so we baked a pie because we went apple picking and that was really lovely, which I think is also just like a great way to get into the fall mood, especially like in this transitional period of like I really do miss summer already, even though we don't miss this sweating, but it's just it's so gorgeous every every day it's like it's big, like rainstorms or it's like gorgeous sunny day and like just green ass trees and I love it.
I love it, and like now I'm starting to see it obviously, Like don't get me wrong, trees you know changing color this season is beautiful, but it doesn't give me the same serotonin. It It's hard for me to transition to fall because it's just like I know winter is next, and I don't like winter because it's cold and everything's dead. Yeah, I mean, my seasonal effective disorder loves to rear its yearly annual head around that time. So doing you know, fall rituals helps me get you know, more prepared for the colder seasons and more excited about it, so, yeah, you know, pumpkin carving, apple picking, those are the big ones. But basically after all that, the last thing that we did over that weekend is we went to a place called the Witch's What's so it's you know, it's similar to like if you have like a local haunted house or a local you know, haunted hay ride.
They had four haunted attractions in this place like as a whole, which was I feel like a lot of places are doing that now. When I was growing up, we only had a haunted hay ride locally, so that was like my only like haunted attraction experience was just sitting on a hay bail while actors come and scream in your face and like try to chase you with chainsaws without the blades on them. Did you you know that? Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah, I mean I like you like, do you know about this? You know, you know chan saws don't have blades.
Still scary though, still make a fucking great noise, I mean, hey do, but they're not the moment that you're like, but there's nothing on, it's not that scary. Like again, it's it's the suspension of disbelief. It's safe scary. You don't actually want to be chased by someone with a chainsaw anywhere than I. No, But like, at that point, why the chance saw?
Like what does it really do other than make loud sound, make loud sound and disorient you? I guess I don't know. Are you calling into question the viability of using a chainsaw on haunted houses? Just say I feel like at that point it's obvious that it cannot hurt you, obvious, But I feel like Emma once on a house that can hurt you. I know.
No, I have heard about the one you have to like there's like a waiver that you have to sign, a sign your life. There's like this one that's like I forgot about man, maybe the one where you like they fucking waterboard you. Yes, yes, yes they or they make you eat your own vomit, Like yeah, yeah, I don't want that. No, I don't want house though. That's like just a sort of like weird CIA torture adjacent thing.
Yeah, it's it's a place where masochists go to test their limits or some shit or some weird I goes to essentially all alive or something. Yeah, or well, like I'm talking about the guy who like runs it. Like I feel like he's just like jerky to all that. Oh yeah, it's like weird sexual like oh some sort of weird sexual gratification that like, thank god, this guy isn't killing those people, He's just like torturing them because they want to be tortured. Yeh.
Like I know that some people do something you know, similar to that, like if they're very depressed and they want like to love life again, to like value being alive, and like that's that's one way. That's very uh, it's very soft. That's me again. Like I think with those like extreme attractions, I think it always comes down to in my mind, like are the people who are there signing off on it? Is it being operated in a safe but intense way?
Pretty sure? It's not all that's safe, right, I Mean that's the problem. It's not all that safe because how safe can this stuff and ultimately really be. But my point is like if everybody is on the same page, I got no problem, but it needs to all be above board. Like if people want to have the piss scared out of them, be my guess Like that's I'm not gonna tell someone not to do that because then if they don't do it in a safe and controlled way, they're kind to do it some other way, and that other way may not be safe and controlled or even legal for that matter.
I guess for me, when it comes to scares, there's like the psychological and the and the physical. Right to me, like I would split it into like those two main categories. There's like the the slash fick, the you know, bloody chainsaw massacre, like there's that, you know, and then there's like the asylum you know, uh, psychological horror. You know, stuff that just like eats your way, like eats its way into your brain. And if I had to choose psychological horror all the way, I much prefer that slow build up of a general unsettling that like it's just either the uncanny valley of something or just like something feeling off and that feeling building up to something like that.
To me, when it's done well, that is the best. I don't It's not that I don't think that, you know, thrillers are scary. I just don't think it's the same type of scare. It doesn't do it doesn't do it for me. When I'm gonna if I'm gonna sit down and watch like a scary movie, there needs to be like a paranormal or otherworldly aspect to it of some sort, Like there has to be like a curse, there has to be a ghost, there has to be you know, uh uh, psychosis, like there has there has to be that if it's just like I am a guy in the wood it said I'm killing teenagers, Like I don't know.
That doesn't it doesn't do anything for me? Do you agree? I mean, I think it depends on what I want. I mean, I think it's I don't think it has to be as binary as like one or the other. But again, I think I also have probably watched more horror movies than you have, which I definitely which I think also, like I think at this point, I think we're also you and I are looking for different things in horror movies, Like I don't watch them anymore to be scared because like I don't think like they're they're not they're they're neck and they're not gonna scare me.
Does that make sense? Like that's that's just why I am on the hunt for one that will, right. But what's the point of even making the genre anymore? Because it's not about it's not about it's it's not about being scary. It's about creating a sense of dread or tension in the audience punctuated by scares, if that's what the director wants.
Like the idea that like a movie needs to be scary for it to be a horror movie, I think is kind of a manufactured idea as opposed to the intention of the genre has always been to, I think, confront problematic and tough topics in a way that can be entertaining. That's one aspective horror that I think kind of gets overlooked. But another one is just like providing violent, gory entertainment as a counterpoint to all the stuff that isn't that, and people want to see that in a controlled and safe way, right, I suppose, But I get the argument of, like things are not scary, I don't want to watch it. At the same time, can horror movies really be that scary when we exist in a reality that has not all these other terrible like real life terrible things like Saw and all of those movies were a response to nine to eleven.
Because it's like, well, if people are seeing this on TV, like I guess we can really push the envelope in horror movies. So that's why you have people lopping their arms and legs and shit off just willy nilly. Because again, if watching people get blown up in a sized skyscraper on national television, like, all bets are kind of off for the for people's sensitization of things. But I get like the I get the kind of like I want to find something that actually scares me. But yeah, like I said, you know that controlled Russian endorphins and that it's and it's fun to be scared.
I but like, so okay, okay, real on it. Back in so, there was four haunted attractions at this place. So it was a haunted hay ride, a walk through like uh like a cemetery type walk through, a haunted house, and then like a clown seemed to also sort of haunted house with different It was interesting. So first thing we did was just like the haunted house, which was very like makeshift. It wasn't like it wasn't it didn't like take place in an actual like building building.
You could tell that it was you know a bunch of just corridors. You know, I don't even think it was a ceiling flywood. Yeah, I don't even think there was a ceiling. I think it was just like exits properly marked because the horror story in that house may have had nothing to do with the people's gary. It was very literal.
It was a very linear walkthrough. Yeah, some of these haunted houses. Like that's my actual concern. Is it like a fire or something started in some of these places, Like I don't know how people out. That's fair.
Exit strategy is go in one direction until you are no longer in the thing. Yeah, well when you're in some of these houses are pretty long and ornate and complex and like, I don't know, like that's this was not this was not that though. It was very much like the All of the actors are like theater kids from the local high school, like which they did a good job. But basically, yeah, so we it was me, Arthur and Arthur's little brother who's fifteen and he's he really wanted to go. We had to we all had to sign waivers.
Oh that's the best part. I forgot to mention. We all had to sign waivers and one of the things on the waiver said risk of death, and it just made me wonder why why did they have to put that because somebody try I had a heart attack, or they're worried about somebody having a heart attack. I guess uh. It was an interesting waiver to read through.
I usually don't really care to read those, but that when I felt drawn to it, well, and I think, you know, you mentioned like looking for something that's scary, Like for me, horror movies don't do it. It's this kind of stuff like going to a hanted house is what scares me. If I actually want to have a horror movie esque experience that will scare me, I go to a haunted house because it tries to replicate horror movies. Honestly, that's what most of these haunted houses are aping from our horror horror conventions horror tropes. A lot of them have, oh, a cemetery thing and the dracula thing and a clown thing, like it's always kind of always the same things.
But like for me, even though I've been to plenty of haunted houses, seen plenty of leather face ripoff type things, plenty of draculas, and all sorts of bullshit and exorcist adjacent style things, if I want to be scared. That's where I go because it's the only way to like set yourself it. Yeah, so I would say that the Haunted House is probably the scariest out of all of them, although it was not the thing that actually got a scream out of me. I'll go back to that. But basically, so this Haunted House, you know, it was basically like a bunch of like these like square, like rectangle rooms and then like a couple of like tight corridors, and it's obviously designed with a lot of like blind corners and and that kind of thing, which is which is really cool.
It definitely gets like the anxiety out of the expectation of something going to happen, which is a really fun feeling in a controlled environment, I suppose. But we had Arthur's little brother on the front, which is Arthur's idea, which is also really funny because this this kid, this kid knows some curse words. That's there's something so delightful being an adult and then like a fifteen year old with just the mouth of a sailor. There's something so delightful about it. It's like they only learned curse where it's like a year or two ago, and they're just like, they can't say them enough.
It's awesome. I love it so and I feel like enough's just so am it's so novel. I feel I feel like enough is not said about the order through which people go through a haunted house and that whole like weird thing because like if you're in the front, oh yeah, like sometimes the people in the front are not the ones that they're getting. And I think the better scare performers can tell who kind of the who the mark of the group is, as it were, and who they can who they can tease and prod and get the better response at them. Now, I'm not going to assume that that was you.
Well, okay, so it sounds like it was Arthur's brother in a little bit of oh yeah, oh my god, this like I said, well, okay, So we insisted that the Arthur's little brother was in the front, and Arthur had asked me if I wanted to be in the medal or be in the back, and I was like, could be the metal I don't really care either way. Of course, I brought up the thing that happened last year, which is still probably one of my favorite Halloween stories to tell the scariest thing at the and I've told the story on the podcast before, but the scariest thing that happened at a Haunts of Detraction that I did last year. So I was walking around and there was this one actor who was like doing the zombie hands except like close to his close to his chest, so his hands were just like out in like a grabby motion, and it just happened to be as he was approaching me that his hands were at chest height, and I was more scared of being molested by accident, and so I kept hiding behind my boyfriend on instinct when this actor would come near, because my brain went, I don't want him to touch my boobs on accident or otherwise I don't consent.
He was very like, I think, like hair was in his face too, so like he couldn't really see that well. And I was just like, this is a recipe for disaster. But of course because I'm hiding behind my boyfriend, the actor thinks that, oh, they sound an easy scare, and I'm like, I don't blame this person for thinking that, but just like I, they were the last they were the last actor. I wanted to be the funding that it wasn't scary. It was just like, dude, kind of a personal space.
But Arthur did joke that he would be in the back to protect my butt, so I was like, I'm fine with being in the middle. So the for me, the scariest part about this the Haunted House attraction, was just the anxiety of like waiting for things to pop out and like something's got like a little bit of like a like some of the things were like a decent jump scare like enough for me to like get a little shutter or a little jump. But as I said before, it was always book ended with significant laughter, especially because this little brother was just going through it. It was honestly so wholesome seeing him like every single actor scared the shit out of him. It was really funny, and of course we were so proud of them afterwards.
But no, I mean like he had a blast and it was it was really fun. And so I don't think I told you this, because I know we called earlier this week, and I don't remember if I told you or somebody else. Did I tell you about the one really funny joke that Okay, no, I did not, okay, okay, okay, So we're going through this haunted house, and I guess theme is supposed to be like there's a cult or something and there's like the spooky like host or whatever who's just like he basically like as he was like, he didn't jump out or anything. He was like setting up for the next like he gave a spiel I guess for the next room, and he was like, oh, we weren't expecting guests, but I but I suppose we'll have a spot for you on the table like something like that.
And without missing a beat, I on autopilot. I swear. I don't know why this is what came out of my mouth, but I just responded to this with, oh, well, well, thank you for making such accommodations and such short notice for us. I really appreciate, Emma, Emma, it was really fine to kind of felt bad for the octor, but I hope we got a kick out of it. When you left the room, it was probably like, what the fuck was it was, groove, Oh well, thank you so much for making accommodations for us on such short there's such a scary fucking group of people.
I don't understand. It was really I was honestly that was my shining moment. I was so proud of myself. Okay it was it was like that quick wit that just like blurted out of my mouth that I feel like I suppressed most days. I guess my filter was on.
I mean, hey, nothing better better place to lose your filters than a haunted house. That's very true. That was That was delightful. But we make it through, and of course Arthur's little brother is like trying to shake off the atreat aline because like I said, almost every single actor got a scream or an oh fuck, heures something. It was awesome.
The next thing we did was that like cemetery walk through, it's supposed to be like a vampire asque thing. The scariest part of that so it was like all outdoor and you were just like walking through like a moderately lit you know, the graveyard esque set up on a trail. The scariest part is that there was like a bridge, like a low bridge that you have to walk over, and lined on the sides of the bridge were like mannequins, like uh, like vampires or something. They were obviously like they were all like fake. But the thing is is that you don't know if one of them is real.
And I knew that I didn't know if any of them were real. So walk on this bridge was very anxiety inducing because I was waiting for one of them and none of them did. It was all lannakins. Either that or this person was very good at staying hidden, and still they wouldn't have So that was probably the scariest part of that. One was just this like anxiety of passing a lot of figures very close to you.
Like I'm talking like this bridge is maybe four or five feet and you know, uh with wines and just like the it was lined on both sides, and I was just like, one of these, one of these has to be a person, one of them, one of them is real, I don't know which one. And then apparently none of them were. So I enjoyed that. That that definitely got my heart rate up. The third thing we did was this hay ride, which, let me tell you, uh, this setup of the wagon was really cool.
Instead you know, like how most of the time it's just like the when slat a couple of bales of hay and the railings right this actually there was that section, but it was much smaller and off on the sides were bench seating, so your let your legs are dangling off the side. It was actually really cool. It was like almost like, uh, what's bleachers? Almost like bleachers. It was like on either side of the wagon.
And I loved that. It felt like that layer of protection of being like behind the railing was wasn't there. So we had like a host uh. And she was like, uh, her whole her old, Her whole thing is that she was like a teacher, like a dark teacher. She had big, steppy mommy energy, which Arthur and I were joking about almost the entire time.
I forgot what she said her first name. Well, that's like you're saying that like pick me up, pick me up. Oh, but what you said, that's just I'm just I'm just making into a physical version of what you say. She she hanged, like, uh. The energy she gave off was the same as that like nine foot tall vampire lady that everybody was simping over, Lady Demetresci or whatever.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah it had She had that energy, but it was like teacher. So she was like, I will there will be a test later and so like I forgot what she said her first one I did was not incorrect. Then yes, the motion that I made is correct. Okay, but she's like I said, I forgot her first name, but she said her last name was like Vandyke, And so Arthur and I look at each other, were like lesbian.
Then she eventually was like and I uh and my husband and we both looked at each other. So just the points. But basically it was really cool that like actors came like really close to you. Uh. Some of them had like shovels and they were like scraping it along like like stone and it was sparking.
And then like one of them with like a like a blunted axe or something like was like trying to like get at somebody like sitting like next to us. Like it was actually because there was like some spaces. Everybody was a little spaced out and like maybe like less than a foot away. As the wagon is moving, like went to like chop like at the bench, which I think was pretty cool. They did it.
They did really well. There was a guy with the chainsaw that wasn't it was. I think the coolest part of that was towards the end there was like this one girl who was like, which of you souls can I whose soul can I steal? Or something like that, and so Arthur and I instinctively point to his little brother. But then like this girl hones in on me.
She's like yours and I was like, oh, okay, sure you can have it if you want. And then they all started like chanting some shit, and then the lady teacher Sepu lady started chanting with them, and I was like, oh, I might not have a soul after it. That was. That was pretty cool. I actually there was a threatening aura.
I appreciated the threatening aura. I do I still I think I do still have my soul, So I don't think it worked, So you know. That was the hay Ride. Hair Ride was pretty fun. It was probably the most benign out of all of them because there wasn't a lot of suspense, like you could see the actors coming, but it takes a lot of the suspense out of it.
But it was effectively creepy and also moderately relaxing, which I don't think is what they were going for. I enjoyed this hay Ride. It was a very relaxing. Josh, That's not what we were going for I guess if you liked it, nothing we can do about that. Okay.
So the last one was this like clown seemed thing, so it was it was it was supposed to be disorienting. So basically they gave you like it wasn't three D glasses, but it was like adjacent to that. I don't re red blue glasses. It wasn't. It wasn't red blue, so it wasn't like three D but it but it gave a three D effect.
I don't know, so some form of a three D glasses, which as somebody who wears glasses and doesn't have context, it's a little annoying, but I managed to make it work. So the way that set up is like all of the walls are black with these like neon paint like everywhere, and like so the neon paint is like like coming off of the walls, were there are people in suits to match to match, I'll there shit of yourself. You think I'd ever seen this before, well that was actually the first time that I had seen this, specifically because I have gone to That's Fair. That's fair. So it was it definitely was disorienting without making me feel nauseous.
Love that love that For me, there were definitely like some rooms that were like a little dissying, but I didn't get nauseousas uh So again it was like clown themes. So there were clowns like a corner, and some of them you couldn't tell if it was just a mannequin because they were standing really still and it was dark. Again. Arthur's little brother. I told him actually on the hay ride, I was like, all right, hear me out.
I have a tip for you. If you're struggling and it gets too scary, and this goes out for everybody, the best way to not be scared at these attractions is just treating the actors as real people, which they don't want obviously, because that takes all the fun out of him on this is ruining all of this. I'm just saying, Wow, if you want to have fun, take away the fun that everybody else has had. I'm just saying that I know that that's just a guy in a mask. I'm trying to scare the guy and the mask, well, it was really not a real clown.
That's a guy dressed up like a cloud, you guys. The one I told I told Arthur's little brother this and like one of the first actors he interacted with, I forgot what he said, but the actor just sighed and what this guy, Yeah, that's just my fucking point. You are. You are seeding the world with I've like, don't get me wrong, don't rely on it. You should let the actors have their truth, not do what Emma said, don't do that.
But but hear me out. I took that as a hint just from like a couple of times I've been places, And I also feel like treating the actors with just like genuine kindness and delight is also just really funny. But when I was at the place last year, at the same place with the city grabber who didn't actually grab my titties, think god, titty grabber, who titty grabber who didn't actually grab my titties, potentially potential titty grabber. Oh who didn't actually grab my titties? Thank god?
Yes? Uh. While I was there, we were standing in this line and some of the actors are like coming around and like trying to like you know, get the crowd like ready and like being spooky and mysterious and get in people's faces and this. This one girl in this line incredible energy. Every single time an actor approached her or came like within five feet of her, she just went, hello, little hello, little you.
Why will stay okay? Can I just say this? And I don't want to be this guy, stay stay home if that's what you're gonna do, like, because here's the thing, Like, it's like someone who I'm not saying you're doing this because I don't know it's okay, I know, I know, I don't. I don't do it to that extent, okay, like half complimented some costumes. Though.
This is like someone going and sitting in a horror movie in a movie theater and every time something scary happens, going, don't you know it's not real? It's like yeah, but like you need to shut the fuck up about it because like I know, it's not real. Stop reminding me it's not real. I think, like I said, in order to really get the most of us, there needs to be a level of suspension. However, it depends exactly what you're trying to get out of this.
If you're just here for a good time. And like I said, one of my favorite parts of being scared is the laughter that ensues after, and so, like I, I honestly thought that what she was doing was benign an adorable, and obviously it just meant that the actors stopped approaching her, and that's all it was. And I'm sure at least one or two actors probably got a kick out of it, the same way I get a kick remembering it. But don't rely on that, because yes, the actors are there to scare you, and it's very disappointing, and they enjoy that, like they're like it's a it's a a tac in handshake between us as the haunted housegoers and them as the scarers that they're not gonna fucking touch us, but they're gonna do their best to scare us.
And if you're unwilling to go shake your hand and agree to your part of the bargain, then I don't think that they should be putting in any effort. If somebody goes, hey, yeah, you're not real. She never said that. I know, I know, but she said a too syllable word. Come on, no, we know that.
It's I've been to a haunted house just like you have. I mean, you know what I mean, Like, yeah, Emma, she didn't say any of that. She didn't have to, though I know, I know you're getting someone else's yum is a problem for me. That's fair. I don't I didn't personally get that vibe from her specifically, but I will say that it is a tactic that I have relied on occasionally, especially when tensions get I think it's like, uh, your brain kicks in and it's just like, hey, uh, you're not actually in danger here saying this really stupid thing instead.
But why say the stupid thing like you're not really in danger? You know what I mean? I think it's because. I think it's because especially like I don't think I would do it if I wasn't with other people. That Bob is going at it alone.
But I'm also like, you never go into one of those things alone anyways. No, And also that takes the fun out of it. I'm like, what is the point of it if you're taking it? I also want to make my friends laugh, you know, Yeah, but your friends are gonna laugh if you're scared, I know, are gonna laugh anyways, Like you know what I mean, I can't help being wholesome. I just I can't help it.
I can't help being wholesome, Chris, I get it. No I'm not. I'm not ragging on you. I'm ragging on people that do it for the sole purpose of taking the piss out of it. I agree, And you know who those people are.
I mean, that's that's a yeah. No, if you're going into it like an absolute asshole, then no, you shouldn't like go fucking like you're you're ruining this not only for yourself, but you're ruining it for the people who work there, who are spending their time when they're not at their real jobs, because the likelihood that this is their real job is effectively zero. So those people are doing this because they love it too, you know what I mean, Like everybody simpatico. And this makes me want to go to a goddamn haunted house, God damn it. And I don't want to go to a haunted house.
Why because the ones that we have here aren't are just okay, like I don't know, and now they're super crowd. But if I had gone two weeks ago, it probably would have been a different story. Yeah, I went like this second of October. Yeah, like it great? You go then just like you don't go to Spirit Halloween the weekend before Halloween and then go, oh, they don't have anything, Like, yeah, I wonder why because they've been open for two months now.
So but what I will say, so I gave that advice to Arthur's little brother just because I think he had I think he deserved a mental break. I think he had enough of the pists scared out of him. So I gave him that little tip and it helped him through the last thing, and I thought that was fine. And hearing hearing the clown just signed out this guy was also really because I mean again, it's not their fucking first rodeo either. Noh.
But so basically towards the end, you know, nothing had gotten a real scare out of me. Again, it was a lot of anticipation and build up an anxiety and then like the payoff is all ill on the disappointing side, even when they're trying to like be in it and be present for it, and you know, like I still I still enjoyed it because it was, you know, great, it was great vibes all around. But you know there's that part of you that's a little disappointed that you know you haven't gotten that scare, especially when, like five minutes ago, you hear like three different high pitched screams, and you're just like, why isn't that me? Why am I so jaded? So so jaated?
Why why am I not Emma's asking the questions that need to be asked? Why am I so fucking jaded? Yeah? Why is it? I know it's me.
It's not that it's me. Oh yeah, I mean it's completely you. But I think you're jaded because it's easier to be jaded about haunted houses than it is to be scared by them. Yeah, even that we live in scarier times than any fucking haunted house could ever conjure it, that's true. So towards the end, there was this room and everything splatter like so again pitch black walls, and then it was just this paint being splattered like Jackson Pollock style, and it was very disorienting, like they say, like the most disorienting for last.
And I thought, in like the corner of my eye, I thought I maybe had just like, is that somebody wearing a like a suit, like an all black suit, with like the paint splatter on it. I think that might be somebody. But before I could finish processing the I think that might be a person like as of right brain was coming to terms with like trying to prepare myself for it. Before I could get there, fucking jumped out and I actually screamed, and I was so happy, and I was like corn ahead finally, and then they looked at you and like, well, we're not a good enough job for you. No, I didn't say that, they said to you, and you're like fatally finally, I felt that in my heart I was.
But I was so like that. I got the adrenaline spike I got, I got the dopamine rush. It was also it's so fucking fun. I couldn't believe that I actually managed to get like a genuine scare, like a genuine scream. It wasn't like a blood curdling scream, but it was a scream, and I was really I was happy about that.
So it ended like literally like the last actor on the last attraction was what gave me the scare. And I ended on a very very positive note. I feel like I got, you know, that made me feel like I got my money's worth. That made me feel like I was I'm here for the right reason. I got the most out of it.
I was. I was really happy about that. So that was my That was my favorite moment is actually being scared at the end. And then you sat and had a caramel corn or a candy apple and counted the days. The day's events, right is I know what one does at one of these fine places, right?
Well, so there was a restaurant that was like a lookout literally like right on the grounds of this place because it's a repurposed ski resort apparently, so during the off season, you know, they do stuff, they have the stuff. So there's this restaurant on this resort if you I don't know if it's really considered a resort, but it's it's a it's a ski place. But there's this restaurant. Uh. And we decided to just get like something simple and easy and yeah, and we talked about it and it was really fun.
So that that was a nice little wrap up. Uh. And then you know, drove drove the kid home because it was a school night, I know, but but yeah, so that that was this year's Haunted festivities. I might wind up going to do something else, maybe maybe with you on maybe some more local maybe somewhere in Jersey if I can find someplace, and and yeah, and I do want to watch Smile I got I gotta know if it's actually scary bringing it all the way back, I went back to all back. I mean, I haven't seen it yet.
Like, like we said, our our dear friend Josh Bragg has a kind of a weird, weird connection to the movie. I've heard good things. I mean, I've heard that it's heard that it's decent, so it needs anything. But I don't. I don't go and see new movies, isn't it.
Yeah, you know, I don't know why you don't keep up with the newest stuff. I don't like leaving my house to go see movies anymore. Thank god, I gotta site, I gotta sit where I watched. So do I, so do I. But I still don't want to leave my house.
Like I still don't want to go see I watch new movies. I just don't watch them in the theater. Yeah that's fair. Yeah, that's that's more. That's more what it is.
I'm just I don't like, I don't. I don't. Who wants to go watch a movie in the theaters? You can't smoke smoke a brisket in the movie theater. On Wow, it smoke weed in a movie theater.
What the fuck do you care? Who cares this twenty twenty? Nobody everybody smokes weed, I know, right, Like, I mean, everybody everybody smokes. You can't see it, but I raised my hand, right God, So, I mean, it sounds like you had a good job. Oh it was.
It was incredible. And also just the fact that I was able to hang out with Arthur's little brother because he's just he's such a good kid. He's an absolute sweetheart, and I was happy I was able to treat him to a fun weekend. So that's good. Well, yeah, it sounds like it sounds like you had a good time.
And that's all thet even if even if you only got scared was it's all about the scares along the way, It's true. It's all about the friends that we we make. So, Emma, if we're not here talking or here doing an episode of this show together, where could people find you on the internet? Great question? As always, never I'm never prepared for the question.
Ever, if you're curious about my original podcast that's uploaded to most places where by podcasts, it is called Strange Beliefs. We primarily post it to YouTube, so all of our YouTube videos are still and viewable. Of all of the podcasts that I and my friend and previous co host Arthur you know, have done, and all of that is about Arthur's journey as a witch of practicing which spirituality. I asked a lot of questions as a skeptic, and I've learned a lot and I'm less of a skeptic than I was going into the podcast. So if that's something that intrigues you, if you are the type of person who questions the paranormal and spirituality, and you know, if any of the stuff is actually real.
I don't want to go out and say I have evidence, but this a lot of stuff that he told me is pretty convincing. So if that's something that you're interested in, feel free to go check out Strange Beliefs. We have an instagram that's about it and it does everything. Yeah, that's it. If you want to hear more of Emma on this show, you can find Emma on several episodes of the show Manifestations, Strange, Serial Killers, Haunted Objects.
We've done a lot of stuff and we're doing more so that's for this show. That's where you can find Emma. As for most of the other shows that I work on, nineteen shows in counting over Weirdingwaymedia dot Com. That's the podcast network that we have where we've got, like I said, nineteen shows.
